I COULD PRACTICALLY FEEL the sweat dripping off my body as me and Noella wrote down our answer on our whiteboard. The question was, 'Who is the only president to serve two non-consecutive terms?' I was a mastermind when it came to history and random facts, and after carefully reading everyone else's face, I knew they were toast.
"Okay, who's ready?" Micah asked.
"We are," Noella smiled proudly, crossing her arms and leaning back on the couch.
"Mom?" I called, glancing at her.
"Bring it on," she made 'come here' motions with her fingers and laughed along with my dad.
"Okay, everyone flip your boards. And the answer is..." Micah trailed off as he reached forward to flip the card over and read the answer, "damnit! Grover Cleveland."
Noella stood up and jumped around, throwing her hands in the air. "Let's effing go! Let's effing gooo!" she sang.
"Bro sit down," Micah groaned, covering his face with his hands.
Paige shook her head, setting the board down beside her on the couch. "Right, y'all ain't win yet."
"You're right," I nodded, "but we might as well have the way the scores are lookin'." I stood up slowly and shrugged, beginning to join Noella in whatever dance she had found herself doing now.
My mom and dad laughed from their seats on the couch, Micah looked about ready to die, and Paige held a look that I couldn't quite read. She was comfortably leaning back on the couch, her eyebrows raised as she watched Noella and I dance around in circles.
"How about we make this interesting," she suddenly suggested.
Everyone calmed at her words, urging her to go on.
"You guys are way ahead of everybody else in general points, right?"
"That's right," Noella sassed, earning a laugh from me.
"Okay. So let's make the final game all or nothing," Paige said.
Micah dapped her up, "Best fuckin' idea ever, i'm down."
"Of course you are Mickey, you're losing," our dad laughed quietly, shaking his head.
"No literally, someone is clearly a sore loser," I snorted.
"I'm not a sore loser. I just think that if we're gonna let them keep all their points, then we may as well call it a night. Nobody is gonna catch up to them in one game," he defended.
"What's the game?" Noella asked curiously, obviously debating in her head.
"And you can't pick basketball!" I chimed in.
"I was thinkin' Twister," Paige smirked.
I tensed up at the mention of Twister. It wasn't that I didn't like the game, but the thought of having to twist and bend around Paige with my brother watching us made me slightly uneasy. My body had a mind of its own when I was around Paige, and who knew what the night would bring.
"Ou, hard pass," my dad frowned, "these legs don't work like they used to I tell ya."
"Yeah kids that's too much for me, i'm getting too old for anything that isn't a board game," my mom added soon after. "But you guys should go ahead."
"You sure?" I quirked an eyebrow.
"Positive," the woman sighed and stood up with my father following suit, "just make sure y'all clean up whatever mess you make."
"We gotchu mama c," Noella reassured her, giving her a hug goodnight.
"Goodnight you four, don't stay up too late," my dad pointed at us sternly, narrowing his eyes specifically at Micah and Paige before he and my mom disappeared upstairs.
I glanced at my phone, 12:32. Tossing it onto the couch I nodded my head, "Alright, let's do it."
Micah stood up and headed to the basement to get the game while Paige, Noella, and I moved the furniture around to set it up. Noella, out of breath after hardly helping to lift the coffee table, left to the kitchen to get something to drink, leaving Paige and I alone for the first time that night.
Paige sat back down on the couch with a huff, resting her hands behind her head and staring at me. "You excited to play?" she asked me, the ghost of a smirk on her face.
"To play and kick your ass? Of course," I shrugged simply, avoiding her eyes. I couldn't let her know how flustered I was getting at the idea of me on top of her again...or her on top of me. I sat down opposite of her, fiddling with the loose threads on the couch.
"If you can even focus," she challenged.
"What makes you think I won't be able to?" I challenged right back, but she was nowhere near as bothered as I was. In fact, I doubt she was bothered at all.
I could see Noella standing in the doorway of the kitchen, she was holding onto the frame as she slid up and down it in an oddly seductive way. Her eyebrows were furrowed and her lips parted.
What a sick fuck.
She stifled her laughter when she reentered the living room, Micah coming in not long after with a dusty Twister box in his arms. He set it down on the floor and roughly pulled the cap off, "Me and Noella, you and Paige," he pointed.
"Why're we switching the teams?" Noella frowned.
"We're not, but i'm not playing Twister with my sister. So we'll each send someone from our team to represent us."
"Oh, he's a smart boy," Noella nodded with an impressed expression.
"We'll go first," Paige offered, quickly raising her brows at me and standing up from her seat not the couch. "Are you spinning for me?"
"Yeah," Micah said. Noella moved to sit next to him, their legs touching from how close they were. Nobody thought anything of it, nobody except for Micah whose head was practically spinning. "Y'all ready?" he asked.
With the nods of our heads, Micah flicked his fingers at the spinner and everyone watched in anticipation as the arrow went in circles around the colors. When it finally stopped, Paige had to put her right hand on a red circle. Then it was Noella's turn to spin, and following that was me putting my left hand on green.
Paige's left foot on green.
My right foot on blue.
Paige's left hand on green.
My right hand on blue.
I was facing the floor, bent over underneath Paige who was no doubt enjoying every second of this. I could see Noella out of the corner of my eye, she was shaking her head and smirking. She was the only one who knew just how painfully awkward this was for me, and I couldn't even blame her when she failed to hold back a laugh.
Micah frowned, "How does this game even work? Like how do you win?"
"Whoever falls first I guess," Noella shrugged in response. "Just take your turn."
Micah rolled his eyes but listened nonetheless. "Paige," he called out, "right foot on yellow."
"Bet," she nodded.
I waited patiently for Paige to take her turn while Micah watched Noella spin. Suddenly, I felt a slight pressure between my legs. I looked down immediately to find Paige right knee being the source, her leg angled at just the right position to reach me. I could hear her laughing from behind me, and when I turned to glare back at her, she pressed her knee in harder.
I bit my lip to stop an involuntary moan from slipping out, letting my head fall low on my shoulders.
"Left hand on green sonnie," Noella stated.
I put my left hand on green, and Paige moved her knee around on me. My foot slipped from the circle it was on, briefly closing around Paige's knee and sending a wave of pleasure through me.
"Oh," I sighed out.
Paige's own stability faltered before she allowed herself to fall on top of me. We went down with a slight Thud! and Noella threw her hands in the air again.
"Paige fell first! We win!" she shouted.
"How?! Sonnie's foot slipped!"
"Doesn't matter, she didn't fall, Paige did."
"I think I like this position," Paige mumbled quietly to me, "i'll have to remember this for later."
She pushed herself off of me and turned me over, helping me up. I glanced at her with slightly wide eyes as we moved to make ourselves comfortable on the couch, taking the spinner from Micah and Noella. We sat beside each other, but I could barely focus on what we were supposed to be doing.
"Stay up tonight," Paige whispered, pretending to scratch the side of her head when she looked at me.
"Left foot on yellow Nola," I said before lowering my voice to a whisper to respond to the blonde beside me, "for what?"
She nudged my thigh with her own, "you know what."
"Maybe I don't," I said, casually resting my arm on one of her shoulders. "and need you to tell me."
Paige turned to me, her eyes falling down to my lips before she looked back up at me. I could feel her breath warm the tip of my nose, and my tongue darted across my lips.
"Right hand on blue," Paige called out, her eyes not leaving mine.
I pressed my thighs together, turning away from her as I took the spinner. She rested her hand on my thigh, lightly tracing shapes on the soft skin. I squirmed a bit, "Right..." pull yourself together Sommer, "right hand on red."
"Spread your legs..."
"Paige, no," I whisper yell, "not right here."
"You're no fun."
___________________________________________________________
MY HEAD WAS BURIED deep in my pillow as Paige pounded in and out of me. I moaned into the soft cushion, my fingers coming around the bedsheets to grab two full handfuls. I felt her gather my hair into a makeshift ponytail, yanking my head back up. She pressed a kiss to my shoulder, slightly moving aside the strap of my top.
"You're so good at being quiet," she breathed out.
I could feel my release building inside of me, my walls clenching tightly around the strap.
"Paige..." I whined.
Letting go of my hair, she fully pressed her chest against my back, the sides of our faces touching.
"You're gonna...make me...cum," I said between breaths, tilting my head as she started to kiss my neck. She picked up her pace, her grunts filled the room and she slithered her hand over my mouth to keep me quiet. I moaned uncontrollably into her hand, screwing my eyes shut as I felt the pleasure become overwhelming.
Her phone buzzed from my bedside table, she ignored it.
"You wanna cum baby?" she whispered into my ear.
I nodded eagerly, not even caring how pathetic I looked. It was what Paige wanted, and I would always give her what she wanted.
"C'mon then, cum for me."
Her permission was like a key to a locked door, that door being the orgasm I had managed to hold off for the last thirty seconds.
My cum spilled out onto her strap, pouring out of me like water out of a faucet. Sweaty and completely fucked out, I let my head fall back into the pillow. Paige slowly pulled out of me, taking the strap off and setting it down onto the floor. She crawled up next to me and stroked her hand over my matted hair, "So pretty..." she mumbled.
"You can't even see me," I said, my voice muffled.
"I don't have to."
Slowly, I lifted my head to meet her eyes. She was staring at me with the most tender eyes anyone had ever given me. It was in that moment that I couldn't even believe I had questioned her feelings for me, Paige had to have feelings for me. We had sex anytime she came home from school, and it wasn't casual, not to me.
She stood up from the bed and stretched, "We should probably go back down, don't wanna fall asleep up here or nothin'," she suggested.
I nodded in agreement, "I'm gonna freshen up first."
"Yeah, you need it," she snorted, raising her eyebrows.
I grabbed the nearest pillow I could find and launched it over at her, "Fuck you," I laughed.
"I'd let you but you're all fucked out," she pouted mockingly and opened my door, "see you downstairs."
Damn...that's it?

Brandon: Great! Now I’m in jail!
Gantlos: Yes, you are.
Brandon: Hey, so are you, so don’t look so smug!
Gantlos: …
Brandon: You still look smug!
Gantlos: I’m the wizard of destruction in a complex made entirely from concrete that you have seen me punch through in other battles.
Brandon: So?
Gantlos: punches through the wall
Brandon: …I said don’t look smug!

Sometimes things happen unexpectedly.
Sometimes you wouldn’t even realize that it was already happening until it had slapped you right on your face. Letting out a sigh, you bit your lower lip as you held in your smile and pulled the comforter close to your chest.
“Good morning.” Sara knocked on your door and immediately walked in.
Your eyes snapped open, and you immediately sat up on your bed. Sara looked chirpy on a Sunday morning, and you wondered if she enjoyed the rest of her night with Wes since they were so quick to ditch you. You furrowed your brows, patting and pulling your comforter for a moment as Sara sat at the edge of your bed.
“I want to talk to you.” Sara smiled.
“Um… can it wait later?”
Sara immediately pulled you into a side hug and said, “I just want to thank you for last night.”
If you had a dollar for every time Sara had told you that, you probably were able to afford another fancy dinner from that restaurant you all went to last night. You tilted your head at her, your face all rearranged, confused as to what she was thanking you for.
“Last night?” You were taken aback by what Sara said. “You ditched me last night!”
Sara couldn’t help but chuckle at your comment. You were confused as to what was funny about what you just told her. She really did ditch you last night, and she was here laughing at your face?
“Yeah because you and Joe were finally talking last night. We wanted you two to have some space. Don’t pretend! You know you enjoyed it!”
“Talking?” You scrunched your face. “We were arguing.”
Instantly, you saw the smile on Sara’s face fade, her shoulders slumping in disappointment. She couldn’t believe after that whole night, you two still ended up arguing. In the middle of Central Park too! She really thought you two were starting to get along.
“You two were arguing again?”
A small gasp escaped your lips as Sara watched you jump for a moment before clearing your throat. You pursed your lips and feel the blood rush to your cheeks.
“You know what, Sara.” You nodded your head in agreement. “You’re right. Last night was an eye opener for me about Joe. So, can I please go back to sleep? I’m really tired.”
You gently pushed Sara by her shoulder as she got up from your bed. She gave you a puzzled expression as she looked over her shoulder. It was Sunday, and she knew you hated staying in bed all day on a Sunday.
“Fine,” she let go of the subject as she made her way towards the door. “I was just trying to be sweet and grateful.”
“And you’re welcome.” You grinned, waving at her. “Bye.”
Without saying one more word, Sara closed the door behind her as you sighed in relief before biting your lower lip to hold in your smile. Sliding back down on your bed, your comforter immediately moved away as Joe came underneath it. His face was all flushed as he grinned widely at you. You were thankful that your comforter was thick enough for Sara not to notice Joe.
“That was close.” You whispered.
“Close?” Joe raised a brow at you before looking down and a sheepish grin tugged on his lips.
“I thought you just came.” He teased, making your face flushed bright red.
“I meant with Sara, you idiot.” You watched as Joe wiggled his brows and laughed softly.
His eyes turned into those doe eyed ones again as he leaned in close to you and kissed you softly. Feeling his soft lips moved with yours, your thoughts circled back to the events of last night.
Everything happened way too fast.
It was more of a blur, honestly.
Feeling the door against your back, Joe’s hands slipped on your sides, caressing them softly as he continued to kiss you. Your fingers curled on the back of his head as you pulled him close, a soft moan slipped from your lips. Joe’s fingers then found the back of your dress and tugged on the zipper lightly.
“N…Not here.” You whispered, parting from the kiss.
“Your place?”
You nodded your head before turning around to unlock your front door. The door swung open as you and Joe entered your apartment. His hands immediately grabbed you by the waist, turning you towards the wall, pressing your back against it before Joe’s lips crashed against yours again. You laughed softly as you both made out in the middle of the hall for a minute.
Your mind was sort of hazy, and you didn’t want to think about what was going to happen tomorrow. You wanted to just focus on what was happening right now. Enjoy what was happening right now. Using both the palm of your hands, you gently pushed Joe towards your bedroom as he kicked your bedroom door close behind him.
You pulled away from the kiss breathlessly, Joe’s eyes finding your reluctant ones as he leaned his forehead against yours.
“What is it?” He asked.
“I… I don’t want to be one of your girls.” You replied. “If I am, we need to stop this right now.”
Joe cupped your face between his hands, his eyes were full of emotion as he said, “Remember what I said in the lobby that night?”
You nodded your head as he continued, “You’re never one of them… ever.”
As you hitched your breath, you felt his words inject through your blood as you grabbed his face between your hands and crashed your lips against his again. You felt Joe smile through the kiss as he pulled your body against his. You knew that you promised yourself you never wanted to believe a word he would say to you, but you could feel tonight was different. You could feel it in your gut that he was telling you the truth.
Feeling the edge of the bed on the back of your knees, Joe pulled away from the kiss and gently laid you down on the bed. His fingers gently ran down your back as he towered over you. A breathless gasp escaped your lips as he kissed you softly before his lips trailed down the line of your jaw. His fingers found the thin strap of your dress and slowly slipped it down, his lips finding your bare shoulder.
Joe was gentle.
Soft.
He was leaving trails of kisses on the blade of your shoulder like you were the most delicate thing he has ever held on to. His kisses were almost as light as the breeze. You closed your eyes, feeling his soft lips kissing down your neck. Your fingers found the buttons of his shirt as you fluttered open your eyes and started unbuttoning them. Joe gazed down at you, a small smile on his face as he helped you with his shirt. Sliding it off his broad shoulders, Joe kissed you again, this time hungrily and passionately. He reached behind you and completely unzipped your dress and tugged it down your body.
He studied your naked body in front of him, his eyes were dark and deep, making you blush. Joe’s index finger traced down your stomach, making you hitch your breath. He looked at you so differently. He looked at you so full of emotion that you couldn’t help but wonder what he was thinking. His fingers finally found the elastic of your panties before tugging on them lightly, letting it join with the rest of your clothes on the floor.
“Come here…” He whispered, taking you up in his arms and kissing you so softly.
He kissed you slowly then his kisses turned into hunger, his hands caressing your sides. A soft moan escaped your lips, making him smile through the kiss. Your fingers fumbled on his belt and the button of his pants.
“Joe, please.” You whispered.
Helping you with his pants, you watched as he slid it off of him before he kissed you again. Another gasp escaped from you when you felt his fingers play with your nipple. His lips trailed down your chest, and you could tell that he was studying every inch of you as he kissed every inch of your skin.
Everything was dizzying to you. You gasped softly the moment his lips found your wet folds. He moaned your name under his breath, which made your body heat up even more.
“You’re so wet for me.” He murmured, grinning lightly.
You moaned as Joe’s tongue licked your clit and sucked on it lightly. His tongue danced around your wet folds, making every nerve of your body electrified at the feeling. The sounds that you were making were new to you, and it was music in Joe’s ears as he continued to lick and suck you until your legs were trembling.
“Joe… Joe.” You murmured before Joe had towered over you again and kissed you deeply, tasting yourself on his lips.
Curling your fingers on the back of his neck, you pulled him down to you and kissed him hungrily. Reaching for Joe’s member, you stroked it softly, making Joe groan through the kiss. You could feel him hardened even more as you continued to stroke him. He let out a breathless gasp as he pulled away from the kiss and leaned his forehead against yours.
Small moans escaped both of your lips, his chocolate button eyes staring deeply into yours as you helped him enter inside of you. It was a bit of a tight squeeze, but him being inside of you made you feel so good.
It made you feel closer to him.
Joe’s thrusts were slow at first as he trailed his lips down your chest and his mouth sucked on your nipple. Closing your eyes, you arched your back and rolled your hips with his as he continued to thrust inside of you, his pace slowly going faster.
Both of you panted heavily together as you wrapped your legs around his waist, your hands holding on to his shoulders. Joe buried his face on your neck, moaning your name under his breath as he continued his quick thrusts inside of you, your walls slowly tightening around him.
“Fuck…” You threw your head back against the pillow, closing your eyes.
All your dating life, you never had someone fuck you like this. Not even Garrett was able to make you feel like this at all. You could feel the heat and electricity between you and Joe, and every bone of your body was screaming for him. Every inch of you was on fire, and you didn’t realize you have been starving so much for him until tonight. Until you felt his heated kisses on your skin and lips.
You knew you always felt something for Joe, but you never realized until tonight how deep those feelings were.
Suddenly, it terrified you.
You moaned and panted heavily, feeling the pleasure building up in your stomach. Joe’s soft moans in your ear were making you so drunk of him. It made your head even more dizzy as you felt him thrusting deeper inside of you, hitting you on the right spot. You gasped loudly, and you swore you could feel Joe’s smile on your skin as he sucked the skin of your neck gently before letting his tongue licked the sore spot.
His lips found yours again before he pulled away and gazed down at you.
“Look at me…” He said breathlessly.
You shook your head, pulling him down to you as your nails scratched down the skin of his back. You had put yourself in a situation that was over the line and way too dangerous. Your emotions were running high through every inch of you, and you didn’t know what you would say or do if you would look him in the eyes.
You were terrified with the aftermath of this.
Gently, you felt Joe slowed his thrusts as he cupped your cheek with his hand.
“Love, look at me.” His voice was soft and gentle.
Slowly, you fluttered your eyes open and found his brown doe eyed ones staring at you. His eyes were full of affection and emotion, and you swore you were going to explode from the way he was looking at you.
“So beautiful.” Joe whispered as he quickened his thrusts again. “Don’t close your eyes, please. I wanna look at you.”
“Joe…” You whispered, a small moan came right after.
You stared into his eyes, butterflies invading your veins, your heart pumping hard inside your chest that you swore it would jump out of you any minute now. His eyes were staring deep into yours as your walls were tightening even more around him. Both of your pleasures finally crashed over the both of you after a few more hard thrusts. You immediately closed your eyes, clinging onto Joe and pressing your face on his neck to muffle your screams.
Joe groaned and gasped softly as he slowed his thrusts inside of you. Beads of sweat covered your forehead when you had laid back on the bed comfortably, while Joe slid himself out of you. His fingers traced the soft and sweaty skin of your face as he gave you a small smile.
A soft, loving kiss was pressed on your forehead before he brushed away the strands of hair that were sticking on it. You were still panting lightly, your eyes looking into his. For a moment, you felt everything around you stopped. It was just you and Joe in this world.
Your heart was still pounding inside your chest, and you wondered if this was it.
This was what heaven felt like.
You let out a low gasp, snapping you out of your thoughts from last night when you felt Joe’s lips on your neck. Your toes were curling already from the way Joe was kissing your skin.
“Joe.” You moaned under your breath, closing your eyes.
“You’re so stunning.” Joe left feathered light kisses on your face, making you laugh softly.
His fingers found the strap of your tank top as he kissed your bare shoulder and trailed his lips across your chest.
You bit your lower lip as he pressed his face on your neck, breathing you in. You couldn’t help but wonder if Joe would say these things to the other girls he had brought home before. You believed what he told you last night that you were different, but you couldn’t help but still feel a little insecure over it.
You let your hand cup Joe’s cheek as you brushed his cheek with your thumb, studying his soft facial features. He let out a soft approval hum as he buried his face deeper on your neck. After a few minutes of silence, Joe fluttered his eyes open and gazed up at you.
“Are you hurt? Did I hurt you?” He asked as soon as he saw the uneasiness in your eyes.
“No.” You shook your head, giving him a small smile.
“Then, what is it?” He sat up on the bed, his fingers grazing softly over your cheek.
“Nothing.” You lied. “Just thinking about last night.”
“Did you regret it?” Joe pulled you in his lap.
You shook your head, turning to him. “No, never.”
Joe couldn’t help but smile and softly kiss the blade of your shoulder before grazing his nose over it. You leaned close to him as he wrapped his arms around you.
“I meant what I said last night.” Joe murmured, his fingers stroking your hair.
The both of you had settled back comfortably on your bed. Joe laying on his back, and your head against his chest. His warm arms felt safe around you, and you couldn’t help but think about how long this was going to last. Those words that Joe had just told you made you think about the trust that you have in him.
You could feel him being genuine with you, but you have known him in a different way for the last two years. Your mind and your heart kept fighting over it.
“Which part?” You asked, pretending you didn’t know what he was talking about.
“About you.” Joe replied. “About how you’re different from the others.”
You swallowed the emotions that were caught in your throat as you moved up and pressed your face on his neck. You let out a soft approving hum and didn’t say a word. You didn’t really know what to say because your thoughts were still all jumbled up inside your brain. You needed time to think. You needed space to really process what just happened. You need to process that this thing between you two has changed in just a blink of an eye.
With the silence surrounding your room, you both heard Sara’s soft clatter outside your bedroom door. You pressed your palm over Joe’s mouth to make sure he wasn’t going to make any noise before you both heard the front door open and closed.
Sara left.
You sighed in relief as you pulled your hand away from his mouth, a small smile tugging on his lips.
“I guess I’ll go.” Joe said, slowly getting up from your bed. “I have work soon anyway.”
You followed him, picking up your robe and wrapping it around your body. You watched as Joe slipped his clothes on before making his way around the bed. A grin plastered on his face as he slid his hand around your waist and pulled you close to him.
“I’ll see you later?” Joe leaned in to give you a quick kiss on the lips.
“Yea.” You smiled slightly before walking him out the door.
Right before Joe walked out of your apartment, he gave you one more soft smile before leaning in for another kiss. Sighing deeply, you closed the door behind you and bit your lower lip. You let your fingers trace your lips, feeling his lingering kisses on them. You couldn’t help but feel blissful as you made your way to the bathroom.
Sara was gone for the rest of the day, and you were sort of relieved over it since you needed time to think about what happened. You needed time to think about you and Joe. You didn’t even know what it was between you two now. Joe never brought up the subject and there was no way you were the one who was going to do it. Letting out a sigh, you walked over to the kitchen that night and pulled out your mixer and some ingredients.
You needed a distraction.
You put on your apron and mixed together the ingredients that you needed and let your mind wander somewhere else. Baking always helps you think. It made you calm and got your thoughts organized.
“Hey, I’m home!” Sara called from the foyer.
“In the kitchen!” You called out.
You were sliding the bowl under your mixer and turned it on as you whipped up the frosting that you were making. Sara entered the kitchen all giddy, and you could tell that she just came back from hanging out with Wes. The moment she saw the mess in the kitchen, she immediately stopped in her tracks, her hands finding her hips as she raised her brow at you.
“Uh oh.” She said, “What’s wrong?”
You looked over your shoulder, giving her a confused look. “What do you mean?”
Sara slowly walked towards you, her eyes studying each mess on the kitchen counter. Spills of flour, sugar, and vanilla extract were all over. Dirty spoons, whisk and bowls were on the sink, while two round vanilla cakes were sitting on the rack on top of the stove, cooling off.
“A whole cake?” She asked, worry in her voice. “That means the situation is bad.”
You laughed softly at Sara’s comment, shaking your head as you dipped your finger on the frosting and tasted it. An approval look washed over your face, feeling proud of your frosting. It was strawberry flavored, and you were doubting the recipe earlier.
“Sara, I have no idea what you’re talking about.” You said as you grabbed your turntable and started stacking the cake.
“There’s always something wrong when you’re baking!” Sara argued. “Brownies means it’s not that bad, and you’ll get over it. Cookies… maybe a little bad and you need to solve it right away but a whole cake? It means it’s really bad.”
You barked out a laugh at Sara’s explanation. She really did know you well, but you needed to keep up this façade because you didn’t know what you and Joe were yet. You wanted to tell her, but you still need time for now.
“Where the hell did you get that idea?” You laughed.
“I know you!” Sara side eyed you. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.” You stuck with the same answer as you continued to decorate the cake in front of you. “I just thought it would be nice to bake. I haven’t done it in a while.”
Sara wasn’t going to budge though.
“Is this about a guy?” She asked.
You chuckled softly, shaking your head. “No, it’s just about baking. I just wanted to bake. Period.”
Sara hummed softly, still doubting the reasonings you were throwing at her. She watched as you piped frosting on top of the cake before slicing the strawberries and placed it on top and around the cake.
“I don’t believe you, but fine.” Sara murmured, walking away.
You pursed your lips and finished decorating the cake before starting to clean the kitchen. The thought of Joe was beginning to fade from your thoughts as you put away the dishes in the cupboard that night. Then, you ate dinner with Sara, listening to stories about what she and Wes did today and thanked you again for last night.
“You still ditched me…” You teased her, slicing the cake that you made earlier.
“I didn’t ditch you!” Sara argued. “I thought you and Joe were getting along, so we thought it would be great to give you two some space. You both were gone when we came back at the light show.”
“Because we thought you guys left!” You replied, handing her a piece of cake.
“So, did you two argue and then went straight home?”
“Yes.”
“So, you two are not talking to each other again?”
You shrugged and realized that your little white lies were starting to pile up.
“No, we’re fine.” You replied. “We made up when we arrived home.”
Sara sighed in relief and ate the cake that you made. “Hm… this might be your best one yet.”
You smiled at her, chuckling before joining her to eat the cake. You didn’t like lying to your best friend, but you would tell her eventually. You just needed to figure this out first with Joe. You needed to know if this was just a hookup thing.
Staring at your ceiling that night, you have given up on trying to sleep. You kept tossing and turning, but your mind was too noisy. You took a deep breath, feeling frustrated with yourself. Maybe you could just work from home tomorrow if you didn’t fall asleep for the next hour or so. After a few minutes of silence, you heard your phone buzzing on your bedside table. Reaching for your phone, you saw a message from Joe.
Come outside, please.
Shifting your eyes towards the clock, you wonder why Joe was here late at night. Though, you sort of wanted to see him, so you grabbed your robe and slipped it on before quietly tiptoed out of your bedroom. You made sure that you opened the front door quietly, so Sara wasn’t awakened by the noise.
There, you saw Joe waiting for you with a smile on his face.
“Hi.” He smiled.
“Hi.” You crossed your arms in front of your chest. “What are you doing here?”
“Thought I’d come and see you.”
You studied him for a moment before looking over your shoulder towards Sara’s bedroom.
“Sara might see you.” You said.
“She’s asleep?”
You nodded your head as Joe slowly walked closer to you. He pulled you gently in his arms, and you couldn’t help but smile up at him, your fingers playing with the fabric of his shirt.
“This is a dangerous game we’re playing.” You whispered.
“Do you not want to?” Joe asked.
“Last night… it was just one angry sex, right?”
Joe tilted his head, his brows knitted together and said, “Not to me.”
“Oh.” You looked down on the floor.
“Is it… to you?” Joe looked at you through his lashes, his eyes trying to find yours.
“I… I don’t think so.”
A small smile appeared on your lips before leaning in and kissed him deeply. Joe wasn’t hesitant to kiss you back either as he tangled his fingers through your hair. Smiling through the kiss, you pulled Joe by his collar. Both of you quietly made your way to your bedroom before Joe excitedly kicked the door behind him and it slammed shut.
“Shh…” You laughed softly, parting away from the kiss.
“Sorry.” Joe whispered, brushing your cheek softly. “I can’t stop thinking about you all day.”
“Hmm…” You smiled as he gently laid you down on your bed.
Staring into his eyes, you saw them sparkling and for some reason, all your worries and fears started fading away. All the overthinking all day, and the insecurity that kept washing over you were gone. The questions in your head faded away as Joe tugged on your pajamas lightly and slipped them off your body.
Your surroundings blurred around you, and maybe… Just maybe you’d love to just stay into this all-encompassing emotional haze.

“Keep your voice down,” I hissed as I walked back down the stairs to meet Mike. “What does this have to do with you? Why do you care?”
“Oh, I don’t,” Mike said. “But I’m sure Nancy would like to know that her twin sister is macking on the guy she was dating a few weeks ago.”
Most siblings would only be bluffing by saying that. Or it would be blackmail to get out of doing chores for a week or something. But not Mike. Mike was an annoying little shit, and always had been. He would tell Nancy what he saw just for the sake of telling her. He’d want nothing more than to cause a rift between me and Nancy, just for his own amusement.
“She’s with Jonathan now, she won’t care,” I retorted. Although, I wasn’t completely sure I believed that. Nancy was the one who broke up with Steve and moved on first, but that didn’t mean it was right for me to move in on her ex-boyfriend so quickly.
“Why don’t we ask her what she thinks?”
Mike opened his mouth, but I quickly covered it to stop him. “What do you want, you little shit?”
“What do you have to offer me?”
I rolled my eyes. “I’m serious, Mike, can’t you just leave this alone? I’m going to tell Nancy eventually, I just need to figure out the right way.”
Mike crossed his arms. “How long have you been sneaking around behind Nancy’s back, though?” I hesitated, which was the only answer Mike needed. “Geez, what a sister you are. Did you even wait long after they broke up to steal her boyfriend?”
Mike’s words cut like a knife. I wanted to argue, but nothing would come out. I hadn’t “stolen” Steve from Nancy. She had broken up with him. She hadn’t even told me herself that she had until a few weeks later, after Steve and I had already started dating.
But was that even really a defense? It had still only been a few weeks in between them breaking up and us getting together. Not that that mattered; he was my sister’s ex. Even in five years time after their breakup, it would’ve been wrong to date him. It was like the ultimate sibling betrayal. I had been thinking this from the start, but I had been so blinded by how good it felt to be with Steve; how happy he made me when we were together.
If it was so wrong, though, why did it feel so good?
When I didn’t respond, Mike took a step away from me. “That was harsh. I’m sorry.”
If I wasn’t having such an internal conflict, I would’ve been shocked by Mike’s apology.
“I won’t tell Nancy,” he continued. “You should tell her soon, though. You guys are too close to let anything get between you like that.”
He turned and walked back downstairs to join his friends again. I was left stunned. I knew things had to be bad when Mike of all people was the voice of reason. I could feel my eyes stinging with tears. I forced myself up the stairs and to my room before anyone found me. I slammed my door behind me and collapsed onto my bed. I shoved my face into my pillow to try and muffle my tears.
I felt so terrible. I knew Mike was right. I knew I had to tell Nancy before things with Steve and I went any further, but now I felt like the admission was going to go terribly. I kept trying to convince myself that Nancy wouldn’t be mad about me dating Steve. I thought that it wouldn’t ruin our sisterly bond if she had already moved on. But now Mike’s words had gotten to me. I knew they shouldn’t have, because he’s Mike. Mike didn’t know shit, and he loved to bother Nancy and I. But I just couldn’t get what he said out of my head.
After some time, I managed to cry myself to sleep.
~~~~~~
I was still feeling off the next day. I didn’t want to face Mike or Nancy, or our parents for that matter, so I got ready for school while everyone was downstairs and rushed out the door. I didn’t even call back to tell mom I was going to school when she asked.
Normally, if I wasn’t getting a ride with Nancy, I’d get one with Holly. But today I didn’t want a ride to school. I wanted to walk, hopefully clear my head with the fresh air. I couldn’t avoid everyone forever, especially Nancy. I needed to come up with a plan to tell her, and soon. Mike said he wouldn’t tell her, but I didn’t completely believe him. I couldn’t have him holding this secret over my head, and I definitely couldn’t keep this secret for much longer. Not if this was how I was going to feel about it.
I was still so deep in thought when I got to school that I didn’t notice how empty the hallways were. It was still pretty early, but this level of emptiness was eerie for Hawkins High. I definitely did notice that all the usual hall occupants were stood in front of my locker. My heart started to pound as I got closer, pushing through the crowd to get to my locker.
When I caught sight of my locker, I sucked in a breath.
In bright red spray paint across my locker door, it said, “Boyfriend stealing slut.”
And next to my locker, with a spray paint can in her hand and an evil smirk on her face, was Carol.
I could hear the whispering behind me. Carol was giggling with her friends. I knew she did this as a way to get back at me for the whole Tommy and Steve fight. She didn’t actually know about me and Steve. And it was certainly working. My eyes were starting to gloss over with tears again. The voices around me sounded loud and like they were engulfing me whole. Like my whole world was crashing down around me, and it was being pulled down by their voices.
I turned and shoved through the crowd, running away before any of them could see me cry. I ran out the nearest door and kept going as far as my legs would let me. Eventually, I came to a clearing in the trees surrounding the school when my legs finally gave up and I collapsed into a sobbing heap on the ground.
I wasn’t sure how I’d go back to school after that. Not just today, but ever. Everyone would see what Carol had written on my locker before the day was out. It didn’t matter which “boyfriend” she was accusing me of stealing, or whether or not her claims were true. The rumors would spread through school like a wildfire. No one would ever look at me the same way again.
“Hey, are you okay?”
I jumped and looked up to see someone stood in front of me. He looked vaguely familiar, with long, curly brown hair, big brown eyes, and ripped jeans and a Metallica t-shirt. He took a step back when he saw my startled face.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you,” he said. “I was passing through and heard a noise. I just wanted to make sure you’re not hurt or anything.”
I shook my head. “I’ll be fine. Thanks for checking, though.”
He looked at me for a long time before kneeling down in front of me. I furrowed my brows at him in confusion.
“You look sad,” he said. “Why are you sad? The school day hasn’t even started yet.”
“It hasn’t even started, but I’m already over it,” I said. “I’m fucking sick of those people back there. I never, ever want to go back.”
Fresh tears started running down my cheeks. I tried to wipe them away, but they fell quicker than I could stop them. I felt embarrassed to be crying in front of this stranger. I just wanted to go back home and lock myself in my room and cry until I was so dehydrated that I just shriveled up and disappeared.
He put his hand out towards me. I looked at it for a second before deciding to put my hand in his. He rose to his feet, pulling me up with him. We walked over to one of the nearby picnic tables. He motioned for me to sit down, then sat down across from me.
“I’m Eddie,” he said. “What’s your name?”
“(Y/N),” I responded.
“Nice to meet you, (Y/N). Now, do you want to talk about what has you crying in the middle of the woods?”
I sighed and wiped my face again. My eyes felt heavy from all the tears. My day had barely just started and my body already felt exhausted.
“Carol,” I said, my voice breaking.
Eddie made a face. “Yeah, she would make me feel like that, too.”
“She wrote on my locker,” I explained. “She...she called me a slut. A-A boyfriend stealing slut.”
His eyes widened. “What?! That’s...why the fuck would she say that? Did you look at Tommy H for too long?”
I shook my head. I looked down at my lap as I felt myself about to cry again. I wasn’t sure how much water was even left in me. I blinked away the tears and tried to swallow the lump forming in my throat.
“I’m dating Steve Harrington,” I blurted before I could stop myself. “We’ve been dating for nearly a month. And before he dated me, he was dating my sister. Like...maybe two weeks before we got together. But she doesn’t know. No one does, besides my best friend and my little brother. But Carol must suspect it, and she’s trying to get back at me for Tommy H being punished over a fight with Steve. A fight that, admittedly, happened because of something Tommy H said to me.”
My chest untightened with every word. I didn’t realize how freeing it was going to feel to admit all of this to someone. Even if Eddie was a complete stranger to me; even if he went running to tell everyone about me and Steve, it felt so good to finally talk to someone about it. It freed the lump in my throat and dried up the remaining tears.
And somehow, it made me even more exhausted than before.
Eddie was silent. He looked at me with his big, doe like brown eyes. I couldn’t tell what he was thinking about my confession. Maybe it was too much to drop on a total stranger. He was probably regretting his decision to come over and check on me when he heard me crying. This is what happens when you try to be a good person, he was probably telling himself.
“That sounds like a lot,” he finally said.
I let out a noise that sounded half like a laugh, and half like a sob. “It is. It is a lot.”
“Listen, I’m no expert on these things, I don’t even play one on TV - ” That earned him a more genuine laugh from me. “ - but I think your best course of action here is to sit your sister down and tell her everything. Even if she doesn’t take it well, at least you finally have that off your chest. And then you can decide what the fate of your relationship with Steve is going to be. If you feel your bond with your sister is stronger than whatever you feel for him.”
“I’m terrified,” I admitted. “I keep telling everyone I’m not, and I keep making up excuses, but the truth is I get so scared to tell Nancy the truth that the thought of it alone makes me feel nausous.”
“Well, that’s understandable. You’re keeping a huge secret from her. One where you’re anticipating the worst outcome of telling her the truth. But you can’t keep this secret forever. Eventually, she will find out, and it’ll be much better for her to find out from you soon, than for someone else to tell her way down the line. It’ll especially be better for you to tell her over her finding out from Carol’s suspicions.”
I cringed. I hadn’t thought of that. I was afraid Mike would be the one to tell her, but Carol had way more of a vendetta against me right now than Mike did. Even if she had no evidence about mine and Steve’s relationship, nothing would stop her from just telling Nancy what she thought was going on between us.
I wiped my face again, but finally found that it was dry. I gave Eddie the best smile I could muster. “Thanks, Eddie. I appreciate this.”
“Hey, what are friends for?”
I raised an eyebrow at him. “Friends? We met like five seconds ago.”
“Yeah, and now I’ve decided that we’re friends. Strangers don’t just approach random crying girls and give them life advice without some form of friendship coming from it.”
I chuckled. “Okay, fair enough.”
Eddie smiled back at me. I felt like some of the weight had been lifted off of my shoulders. The rest of it would be lifted once I finally talked to Nancy.
I could hear the warning bell ringing off in the distance. The grey cloud of despair appeared over me again at the thought of going back to school. I didn’t want to face any of those people after what Carol did. I knew I’d have to go back eventually, but today I just couldn’t.
"Do you have a car?” I asked Eddie.
“I have a shitty old van,” he responded. “It’s shit, but it drives.”
“Can you...would you mind taking me back to my house? I don’t think I can go to school today.”
“You don’t want to find Steve and ask him?”
“I don’t think I want to see Steve at all right now.”
Eddie agreed. We both stood and made our way back through the trees. The grounds around the school were mostly empty now that the warning bell had rang. Everyone would be inside, racing to their classes, probably whispering about the angry red letters that were written on one of the lockers in the hallway.
Everyone, except for Steve, who was stood by the front doors of the school.
I tried to quickly pass by without him seeing us, but the movements only made him notice us more. Steve got to his feet and called for me. He started to approach, his arms out like he was going to hug me, but then stopped when he noticed that I wasn’t alone. Eddie put his head down once Steve noticed him. I could tell by the look on his face and by his body language that Eddie and Steve likely had the same type of relationship I had with Carol. Or at least, they did before, back when Steve was still part of his shitty friend group.
“What are you doing with Eddie ‘the freak’ Munson?” Steve asked me.
I looked at him in disbelief. “Is that what you call him? Jesus, Steve, that’s such a shitty thing to say!”
“It’s just a nickname,” Eddie mumbled.
“No it’s not, it’s bullying,” I said. “That’s the exact same as Carol calling me a slut.”
Steve winced. “I’m sorry. That’s what...I used to call him. I didn’t mean...” He trailed off. He lifted his arms again, as if trying to start the whole interaction over. “I’m so sorry about what Carol did. I know this has to be about me and Tommy, and it’s not fair that she’s taking it out on you.”
“No, it’s not fair,” I said, stepping away from his waiting embrace. He lowered his arms, a hurt look taking over his face. “And this person who you have decided to call a freak was the only person who brought me any comfort. Because you didn’t even come looking for me, Steve! Eddie found me, in the woods, crying my eyes out because everyone is making me feel like shit for dating my sister’s ex-boyfriend.”
“Who else knows?” Steve asked.
“That doesn’t matter. What matters is...I can’t deal with this right now. I’m going home. Eddie is taking me home.”
Steve looked at Eddie over my shoulder. Eddie had stepped back again, like he was trying to inch himself away from the situation.
“I can take you home,” he said.
I shook my head. “I’d rather Eddie take me home. I...I just need space right now, Steve.”
“(Y/N), I’m sorry for what I said about Eddie. And I’m sorry I didn’t come looking for you. No one knew where you went - ”
“It’s not about that,” I cut him off. “Honestly, Steve, I just need some time alone.”
Before he could say anything else, I turned back to Eddie. His eyes flickered between me and Steve, before he finally nodded his head for me to follow him. I tried not to think about Steve’s sad eyes boring against my back as I walked away from him. I tried to focus on anything except for the fact that it felt like my entire life had fallen apart in less than 12 hours.
Subnautica sonic au part 7
Amy's POV
Warnings; injury
I smile as I swim threw the waters. The PDA speaks up, ''"Attention: Detecting increased local radiation levels. Trend is consistent ongoing degradation of the Aurora's dark matter drive core due to damage sustained during collision. Continuing to monitor."
I glance around its probably best to go north away from the aroura then. I need to avoid the radiation zones. I spotted some kelp near by the stalkers that knuckles were ranting about was guarding the entrance. I swam past it keeping an eye on the stalkers just in case they came at me.
I sigh in relief grabbing some peepers and Blatter fish as I swam up for air. My quills getting in my face as I brake surface. I look around mumbling before diving under the water again. I swim back to the bottom pausing at the entrance of a giant coral tube. I swam in wishing I had taken the flashlight instead of the scanner. As I go deeper, I adjust my White breathing mask. My heart beats fast as I spot a cave in the side of the Tube. I Swim out and up grabbing air before going back in it and into the cave system. I swim for a moment the glow of the acid mushrooms soothing me. That is until I heard something move. I pause in the cave looking around in the darkness. My heart beating in my ears.
I look around frantically. Then. I felt it brush against my back with its spines. I start to panic and swim toward the entrance. I hear a gurgled scream come closer and closer until.... BOOM!! I scream as I'm caught in the crossfire of the blast, and I'm slammed against the wall. I sit down disoriented. Until I Heard the same horrid sound again but closer. My eyes widen and I panic scrabbling up to the exit again Only for another explosion to push me against the wall again. I scream as I feel a burn form on my leg. I tear up and quickly try and climb no longer attempting to swim. I Was running out of air and fast.
I wanted to sob as I heard the thing open again wherever these things were coming from wasn't stopping. I crawl desperately sobbing in relief when I see sun light. Only to crack when I hear that horrid scream. I swim fast not looking back. Not caring.
As soon as I was out of the tube, I hear the explosion. I lived. I was out. I sob as I break the surface. Hot tear stream down my face as I sit on a small tube close enough to keep my head above the surface as I rest. The sky grows darker and darker, and I don't want to move.
It felt like hours before I hear a familiar voice, "Amy?" Deep but smooth.
I glance up and was greeted by purple hues. "Knuckles? OOh chaos it's you." My voice breaks and I reach towards my Big brother and cling to him tightly. I cry into his neck exhausted.
"What happened Ams?" I feel him check me over stopping at the burners on my leg. I only remember getting one, when did I get the rest? I look up and knuckles eyes were dark. He looked ready to kill someone. He hugged me tightly and I clung to him.
"i-...I don't know....It was in the caves" my voice wavers. "I Couldn't see it. But there were a bunch. And-and-and" I sob when the word wouldn't come out how I wanted them too.
"....We'll talk about this later lets gets back to the pod." I nod and feel him gentle move me to his back as he starts to swim. I cling tightly to his neck and close my eyes trusting him.
It took a while, but we finally got back to the pod. I look around as knuckles lets go of me when I see we were in a safe zone again. I swollow nervously when I didn't see lulu or sonic. The rope floating in the waves untied.
"Wait....where's Lulu and Sonic?"
"Lulus still probably checking out the caves and Sonics got inside to help sort the supplies with tails." I felt dreed at knuckles words.
"We need to get Lulu out the cave now. Those. Those things are still in there. What if Shes gotten hurt!" I watch as knuckles looks at me as if deciding on what to do.
"Go in the pod and get tails to patch you up. I'll go get Lulu." I nod nervously watching as Knuckles swims off I hesitantly swim back into the pod climbing threw the hatch. I felt relief as I'm greeted with sonic and tails smile. I smile weakly back and pull my body through. I watch sonics smile fall and he rushes over puling me into his lap.
"Amy! what happened to you!" Sonic hugs me tightly as tails look me over mumbling.
I lower my ears and look down "I don't know. I was in a cave. It sounded like something opened and then a horrid scream blasted out before an explosion happened." Sonic purrs soft as tails bandages me listen intently to what I have to say. "I-I couldn't get out. I barely got to the entrance of the cave before my oxygen went out. I was glad knuckles found me."
"Knuckles? where is he then?" Tails looks up nervously his blue eye full of fear.
I look away frowning, "He went to check on Lulu."
Sonics head snapped up, "Does he know Lulu moved?"
I look at him nervously, "What do you mean? She said she was going to stick around the Pod and explore nearby caves."
Sonic's pupils dilate slightly worry clear on his face, "Well after tail and knuckles returned, we all came back here to the pod. When you didn't return knuckles went after you and Lulu said she saw a cool cave she wanted to explore a little after he left."
I felt my heart stop. "Oh chaos"
"Then we just have to hope they find each other." Tails speaks up and I wipe my head around to him.
"What!! they could be hurt!!"
"SO? If we all go then none of us could make it back!"
I pause the reality truly setting in. I start to curl into a ball praying our friends make it back safely.
Part Seven
After Sweetie had told her what had happened, Twilight was stunned. She didn't think the infected were capable of speech. And she doubted the little filly was lying, she looked genuinely terrified.
"It's okay, Sweetie. Calm down. I'll have Rainbow go back and see if Scootaloo says anything. Maybe we can learn more about the infected that way!" Twilight tried to be assuring to the young unicorn.
It didn't help Sweetie feel much better, she was anxiously pacing now.
The next day, Rainbow was nowhere to be found for a few hours. The remaining Mane Six members searched everywhere for her, eventually finding her...
In front of the now-empty cell of Scootaloo, the ground in front of it covered in glass, and drips of blood.
"She told me to... She told me to let her out... She was crying so hard, she just wanted to see me again..." Rainbow was muttering to herself. "B-But I couldn't open the door... So she broke the glass..."
My Saturn
Millions of miles away from her sun, my Saturn is always cold.
Embraced by her rings
She is out of of reach for any warmth she herself cannot generate.
Any warmth she has, she keeps close to her core.
Surrounding herself in clouds snd rings, she does not need the affection of the Sun, for she can warm herself.
My Saturn, dazzling, in all her beauty. Well over one hundred lovers circling her, each in awe of her superlunary.
With her rings, and her admirers, my Saturn only needs her sun to illuminate her own beauty.
Stella: I’d like to call a witness to the stand! Icy, you were there for the whole thing, what do you remember?
Icy: I remember you idiots all getting a new transformation for holding a piece of metal, not mindlessly believing whatever ghosts tell you, and managing to not kill each other in a castle. You know, when we want a new power, we have to kidnap people for it.
Stella: That’s a good point, we’ll circle back to that in a later season but probably not. But what do you remember about Tritannus?
Bloom: Stella, why is she here?
Stella: I sent her a message on WhatsApp.
Bloom: You have her WhatsApp??
Stella: I have everyone’s. Valtor’s, Avalon’s, Mitzi’s, but just so I can engage in back and forth threats. Anyhoo, Tritannus?
Icy: I remember meeting him in prison, then thinking he was cute, so maybe we could go out, Darcy always makes it sound good, then learning he was six years younger than me, so that fell through. Then I learned he was tiny and sad and needed to be hugged and told he had value, so he’s been adopted into my found family of evil, and if anyone says anything bad to him again, I will spear them in an eyeball.
Joe hasn’t seen you in a week. He wasn’t sure if you had been avoiding him since that night, but he knew you were home. You just weren’t coming out of your room. He couldn’t blame you though because he acted like an asshole towards you that night. For a week, he kept repeating the words that he had said to you and kept wishing that he could go back in time and change it, but it was too late. It already happened. He couldn’t take back everything he said. He could only just try to fix the damage that he has done between the both of you.
The guilty feeling that has been washing over him all week was slowly killing him on the inside, and he wished he could just see you. Although, if you weren’t coming out of your room, he knew that you didn’t want to be disturbed. However, Joe knew that you couldn’t hide in your room forever. You would eventually have to come out and face him because there was no way you could just avoid him forever.
So, when he woke up one Saturday morning, he was greeted by a fresh aroma of warm waffles that were coming from the kitchen. Joe rubbed the sleep in his eyes and adjusted his vision from the light that was coming through his window. He heard some soft clattering from the kitchen as he got up from his bed and sat there for a minute, trying to wake himself up completely. If you were in the kitchen cooking something, Joe knew this would be the only chance he could talk to you and apologize for what happened.
Opening his bedroom door, he slowly walked down the hall and into the kitchen. There, he found you standing by the stove, your back turned towards him and your headphones covering your ears. Joe could tell you were definitely avoiding him by how high the volume of your music was. He could practically hear it from down the hall.
He didn’t know why he felt nervous as he walked towards you, but he needed to apologize to you. Hurting you and making you feel like shit was the last thing he wanted you to feel. This wasn’t like him at all. He knew better than to make you feel like that.
Tapping you softly on your shoulder, you looked over your shoulder and found Joe standing behind you. You slid your headphones from your head and turned the stove off before turning to give him your full attention. You raised your brows, waiting for what he was going to say but somehow, Joe had forgotten the whole English language. He couldn’t understand why he felt this way about you. He was always confident when he was around Ivy but somehow, you made him nervous all the time.
You stood there, staring at him, eyes blinking and not saying one word as you waited for Joe to find his words. In all honesty, you didn’t have the time to really hear him out but watching him standing there in front of you nervously, you couldn’t help but feel bad for him. You could see the guilt in his eyes.
“I… I want to apologize for acting like an asshole the other night.” Joe murmured.
You crossed your arms in front of your chest, letting out a deep breath as Joe continued, “I’m sorry for getting angry, and you were right that it’s not fair for me to go and kiss Ivy, and you couldn’t go out with anyone. It wasn’t part of the plan. I stepped into your boundaries, and I’m sorry.”
You pursed your lips and unfolded your arms from your chest, letting out a sigh. You weren’t a difficult person to talk to. You just wanted to feel like you could still do what you want in your life and not feel trapped just because you agreed to this plan.
“Thank you.” You whispered, “I’m sorry for exploding on you like that too. I should have been more discreet. I wasn’t thinking right.”
“You don’t have to apologize.” Joe replied. “You have every right to go out there and meet people too.”
You nodded your head. “But… I’m serious about being done with this, Joe. I don’t think I could do this anymore. The plan worked. Ivy wants you back, and I think it’s time for us to stop this.”
Joe nodded his head in understanding. This wasn’t how he wanted it to end, but he also didn’t want to force you into this anymore.
“I understand.” Joe said. “It’s just that…I was wondering if you wanted to come to the film festival this weekend. I told my manager to put you on the list just in case.”
You were weak.
You couldn’t say no to Joe this one last time, and you were cursing at yourself mentally for being this weak. You could just say no and be done with this but that wasn’t the words that slipped out of your lips.
“I’ll come.” You agreed. “But this is the last time.”
“Are you sure?” Joe asked. “It’s not a hassle for me to just call them and let them know you’re not coming.”
“I’ll go.” You insisted, giving him a small smile. “It’s already been set up. I’ll go.”
“Okay.” Joe smiled. “I have a few dress options for you. You could pick it yourself.”
You chuckled softly, shaking your head as you grabbed the plate of waffles on the counter and slid it in front of Joe.
“Breakfast?” You asked, making the smile on Joe’s face wider.
Feeling the air between the two of you become lighter, you both settled into the dining area, bringing the rest of the waffles on the table. It had been a while since the two of you sat at the dining table and ate. Usually, you were alone when Joe wasn’t in town but lately, you two had been going out. During the week, Joe wasn’t home much, so you spent most of the time alone in the flat. It felt nice to sit with him and just be yourself. It had been a long time since you felt like this.
“So, what are you going to do with Ivy? Are you going to tell her the truth?” You asked.
Joe shrugged, taking a sip of his tea. “I guess I have to.”
Joe watched you nod your head and ate your waffles quietly. He kept thinking about what he was going to tell Ivy. He didn’t want to tell her that you and him were fake dating. He wanted to tell her the truth and the truth was that he didn’t feel that way about her anymore. That he was done playing with her games. He had focused so much on her that he was starting to hurt the people around him. He was starting to hurt you.
“Maybe I also need to look for my own flat.” You interrupted his thoughts.
“What?” Joe knitted his brows. “Why?”
He was right.
He hurt you and now, he was losing you too.
“I don’t know. I feel like I need to be on my own.” You explained. “Ever since this whole agreement started, it made me realize how irresponsible I am with my decisions and maybe my mum was right. I need to have my own place.”
No.
Joe didn’t want to let you go just yet.
Not like this. Not when he was ready to let Ivy go and focus on you. Focus on how much he wants to show you how he really felt.
“Besides, don’t you think it’s better if you ask Ivy to move in with you? It could reassure her that you only want her.”
That was the problem. Joe didn’t want her.
He wanted you.
However, he had already crossed your boundaries many times already. Joe knew how much you hated it when you were being forced into doing something you didn’t want to do.
Who didn’t, right?
He could see how you made up your mind already, and he only wanted you to be happy. If it meant letting you go like this then, he would do it.
“I’ll miss having you as a flatmate.” Joe murmured, his voice full of melancholy.
“I’ll miss you too, and your mad ideas when it comes to relationships.” You both laughed in unison.
“And pizza night.” Joe raised his brow. “You could never have a fun pizza night without me.”
“But you could have pizza night with Ivy at least.” You stated.
Suddenly, Joe’s smile faded slowly. The thought of being with Ivy was making him nauseous. He wanted to tell you the truth. That was the least he could do before you leave. He wanted to at least let you know that he wasn’t going back with Ivy. That he was done, and he was sorry for making you do all of this for nothing and end up ruining both of your friendships.
“Listen—” Joe whispered before getting interrupted by your phone buzzing on the table.
“Sorry, it’s Sara.” You excused yourself from the table and walked towards the kitchen.
Joe let out a sigh, leaning back on his chair as he watched you talk on the phone.
“Yeah, okay.” You said. “I’ll be right there.”
Of course, just when Joe was ready to tell you the whole truth, you couldn’t stay. Maybe it wasn’t the right time if the universe was not giving him this opportunity. Maybe it wasn’t the right idea for him to tell you about how he truly felt.
“Sorry,” You walked back to where he was. “I have to go. Sara needs me, but we’ll talk about the film festival later.”
“Sure.” Joe nodded as you gave him a smile before walking out of the kitchen.
Given the little conversation and apology, you tried your best to act like everything was okay. That you were fine being friends with Joe. Though, you knew you couldn’t stay in the flat anymore and act like being flatmates with him was a normal thing because at this point, you didn’t know how long you could keep these emotions inside of you. You were just glad that you were saved by Sara’s phone call, and you found yourself sitting in the tube on the way to her place.
“Hey.” You greeted Sara as she tried to calm a crying Elena on the floor.
“Oh, thank god!” Sara let out a deep breath as soon as she saw you walk in the door.
“What’s going on?” You knitted your brows and shifted your eyes at Elena, who was sitting on the floor, hugging the grey otter that you gifted her.
“She won’t take a nap.” Sara sighed, picking up a crying Elena as you walked over to them.
“Hey,” You cooed, rubbing Elena’s back softly.
As Elena shifted her eyes towards you, she used the back of her tiny hand to wipe her tears as she finally calmed down a bit. Sara watched as you took Elena in your arms, and she rested her head on your shoulder. Rubbing her back softly, Sara let out a sigh of relief as she saw Elena yawned softly. It didn’t take long until Sara had taken Elena back in her arms and finally put her down for her nap.
Looking around the living room, you could see all of Elena’s toys scattered all over the floor. You started picking them up and putting them back on the bin as Sara sighed in relief the moment she quietly closed Elena’s bedroom door behind her. She flopped herself on the sofa and rubbed both of her temples. You couldn’t help but chuckle as you set the bin in the corner and sat next to her.
“It’s been rough lately?” You asked.
Sara nodded her head. “Who knew this could be so hard?”
You chuckled softly, “Well, if you ever need anything, you could always call me, especially now that I’m moving out.”
Sara’s eyes widened in surprise. “You are? Does Joe know?”
You sighed and nodded your head, “Yeah, we talked about it this morning. Besides, we ended the agreement. It’s better if Ivy moves in with him.”
Sara tilted her head, giving you a look. She could tell that you were hiding something and not just hiding it from her but also denying it to yourself. If you wanted to move out of the flat, Sara knew that you would be happy. That you would be relieved but somehow, you just looked unhappy over the idea of it.
“Listen…” Sara rolled her eyes as if she didn’t even want to say what she wanted to tell you. “I didn’t want to say this because at the beginning, I thought this whole thing was ridiculous even when Abby tells me that Joe is falling for you…”
“What do you mean?”
Sara gently scratched her forehead, trying to figure out how to form her words. She honestly didn’t agree with how Joe was treating you, but she also saw the whole thing before her eyes. She couldn’t deny that in front of you.
“You’re telling me that everything with Joe was just all fake? That those pictures were just acting?”
“Yes, why? What are you trying to say?”
“I could see the way he looked at you in those events. You’re telling me he’s still going back to her?”
“Well, we have to pretend. We have to make it believable.” You argued.
Though, even that argument you were telling Sara wasn’t believable. You didn’t even believe it yourself, but you were too much in denial to be accepting the fact that maybe—just maybe—Joe actually felt something for you.
“Yeah, I guess but I’ve also seen the way you look at him. Not just in pictures. The way you talk about him. It’s… different.” Sara shrugged.
“Yeah, but he’s with Ivy and I’m moving out. This is how this thing is going to end.”
You technically didn’t deny what Sara mentioned. You just wanted this conversation to be over because even if you felt something for Joe, he still chose to be with Ivy. This was the whole reason why this whole thing started. It was because Joe wanted Ivy.
“Can I ask you something?” Sara asked.
You tilted your head at her as she continued, “Can you please stop being so afraid of letting someone good in your life for once? Please, for once, listen to what your heart is telling you. You know, it’s okay to unravel your walls to someone. You deserved to be loved too.”
“Love is a big word, Sara.” You awkwardly laugh at the thought.
You didn’t know how to react to what your best friend just told you. So, you masked it with a small joke.  Just like what you always did because you could never face your feelings all the time. Let alone face the fact that Joe actually cared about you.
“Seriously, stop using Abby’s instagram if you want to quit social media.” You added, laughing softly.
Sara couldn’t help but laugh, “I can’t help it. Your little fake love story got me hooked.”
“Well, that’s enough because this fake love story is over.”
You stared down at your lap and played with your fingers. Sara could see the melancholy in your eyes even if you didn’t say anything. Besides the fact that Joe could be so dumb over his decisions towards this situation lately, Sara could see that he cared for you. That despite everything that happened, she knew that he never meant to make you feel like this.
“Maybe a real one is starting.” Sara murmured as you gazed up and saw the warm smile on her face.
You puffed out a breath as you grabbed one of the throw pillows and threw it at her, making the both of you laugh softly. After helping Sara clean up the house a little bit more, you decided to make your way back home. This weekend was going to be the last event you would be attending with Joe, and you wondered what he would tell his team and Ivy as to why you both aren't together anymore. At this point, you only had one worry in your mind, which was to focus on finding a new flat. London flats were expensive these days, and you just hoped you would be lucky enough to find one that you could afford alone.
When the weekend came, you had found yourself at the film festival’s after party. Some industry friends of Joe’s had recognized you and made small talks. Although, you weren’t too talkative tonight. So a little bit after, you made your way towards the bar and ordered yourself a drink and to give yourself a break from the conversations you were having. Joe, on the other hand, was busy talking with his other friends from across the room, and you couldn’t help but notice how he kept looking back at you.
As you drank your martini, you also noticed one thing that was missing tonight. Not a thing, but a person. Ivy wasn’t around, and you haven’t seen her at all ever since the both of you arrived.
“Hey, sorry. I was just finishing the conversation with my friends.” Joe walked up to you next to the bar and ordered himself a glass of martini.
“Are you having fun or you’re totally bored at this party?” Joe chuckled.
“Actually, not too bad.” Your eyes scanned the room before your eyes fell back on Joe. “Although, I don’t see Ivy anywhere.”
“She’s not here. She’s a model not an actor.” Joe smiled.
You raised your brow at him, giving him a side eye and said, “Then, why did you bring me here if she wasn’t even invited?”
Joe leaned against the bar and moved closer to you, “I brought you here because I wanted you to come. I want you to come here and just be yourself for once. No pretending. Just you.”
“So, just as your flatmate?” You raised your brow, your eyes staring deep into his.
Joe nodded his head, his eyes never leaving yours as he took a sip of his martini. You couldn’t help but chuckle and shake your head, looking away from him. Joe’s eyes never left you as you scanned the room and when your eyes caught his again, you saw a small smile tugging on his lips and that look was all over his face. It made you melt and weak in the knees, but you tried to fight against the feeling that was washing over you right now.
“Listen…” Joe cleared his throat. “I know this is probably our last time doing this, but I want to thank you for everything. For doing this with me. I know it’s crazy, but it wasn’t just because the plan worked, but I had fun, and I got to know you better.”
“Don’t go all cheesy on me now, Quinn.” You laughed softly.
Masking your feelings really was on a roll for you tonight. You watched as Joe held out his hand in front of you. Furrowing your brows and curious as to where he was going to take you, you took his hand in yours as he led you through the crowd. The noise of the party slowly faded behind you as he opened one of the private lounge doors and dragged you inside with him.
“Oh no.” You teased him. “Is this the part where you have to get rid of me now?”
Joe laughed softly, locking the door before turning to you. He took small steps towards you, and his chocolate button eyes were trying to find yours as you took in the fancy four walls that were surrounding the both of you.
“For once, could you stop acting like you are hiding every emotion of yours there?” Joe murmured.
As you turned your attention back to him, you found Joe’s face was inches from yours, making you hitch your breath.
“I…I’m not.” You whispered, barely could get your words out of your lips.
Joe raised his brow at you, a playful smile tugged on his lips. “Yes, you are.”
You avoided every eye contact that Joe was trying because this was starting to be a dangerous territory. You didn’t know what exactly he was doing or trying to get out of you, but you couldn’t be here any longer. You couldn’t be in this room with Joe because this was wrong. He was supposed to be with Ivy, right? He belongs with her. Not with you.
“Hey,” You felt his soft fingers under your chin as he turned your head to face him.
Fuck.
You were so weak for him.
Your hands gently slid up on his chest, your eyes staring into his. You couldn’t find the words. You needed to tell him to stop this. That this was wrong! But how come you couldn’t? How come at the same time, this felt right? Your fingers softly played with the collar of his shirt, your eyes just staring at your fingers rubbing the fabric of his shirt softly. You couldn’t look at him because you didn’t know what you would do if you did.
“Just let go for once.” Joe whispered, his voice so soft and gentle.
Your eyes suddenly gazed up into his chocolate button eyes. They were soft and only for you. His nose gently brushed against yours, making you close your eyes. You could feel both of your breaths as Joe cupped your cheek with his other hand. Sara’s advice a few days ago had lingered in your mind. If Joe wanted Ivy, why was he here with you? Why was he here giving you this look like he wanted you instead?
You swallowed every guilt that was washing over you as you felt Joe’s lips softly brushed against yours. He didn’t kiss you fully yet. He was so gentle, and you felt like he was testing the waters before he could fully give himself to you. However, you didn’t let him linger on for too long as you pressed your lips deeply against his, kissing him passionately.
“Joe…” You pulled away breathless after a few seconds, your guilty thoughts reeling inside your mind. “This wasn’t part of the plan, remember?”
You could literally hear your breath shaking as Joe stared at you and whispered, “Good because I want this to be real.”
That was the last thing that Joe could say to convince you to accept these feelings that you have been having for him. Letting his fingers ran through your hair, he kissed you deeply. Both of your lips moved together, and you were flying. You let every emotion that you had finally washed over you and let go of everything that was stopping you before. Gently pushing you against the wall, Joe pinned your wrists above your head, both of you kissing each other breathlessly like you both were so hungry for each other for a long time.
Yes, you have been wanting this. Yes, you have been thinking about this moment with Joe, and you were finally here. You were kissing Joe. Your flatmate. Your “fake boyfriend” that you now just realized had trusted for a year now with all the dark and light secrets you have inside of you. He was the one who understood you when your parents tend to nag you about bringing a boyfriend home. The one person who comforted you when you burst into tears at your parents’ house and understood every bit and every dark corner of your mind.
Letting Joe’s lips trailed down your neck, you couldn’t help but let out small moans that made Joe smile through your skin. Those little noises you made just for him made him pull you close against him, his fingers finding the zipper on the back of your dress. Letting the strap from your dress fall, his lips planted soft kisses on your bare shoulder, making you let out a sigh in happiness. Your fingers ran softly through his curls as you let out another soft moan when he started kissing you passionately again.
You wanted to let yourself be loved by someone for once, and you want to love someone with all your heart. You wanted to let go and take Sara’s advice but how come your mind couldn’t just accept that? How come it had to start reeling with questions as to why Joe was doing this? Why was he here kissing you and not Ivy? What was going on?
“Joe…” You murmured, pulling away from him. “I… This… This isn’t right.”
You immediately fixed the strap of your dress and zipped the back of your dress. Joe’s worried eyes studied you as he held your hands in his.
“Hey, what’s wrong?” He tried to find your eyes, but you couldn’t look at him.
Guilt was washing over you, and you couldn’t believe that you had crossed this line. This wasn’t part of the plan. This wasn’t part of the agreement nor you should have done this at all.
“You still want Ivy.” You stated. “I don’t want to be the second choice.”
“You’re not a second choice.” Joe shook his head, finding your eyes. “Hey, you’re never a second choice.”
Joe was trying to convince you, but your thoughts were winning, and you didn’t believe him.
“Joe, you did all this for months to get her back.” You argued, walking towards the door and unlocking it. “You have her now. You don’t have to do this with me. You’re supposed to be with Ivy and that’s that.”
“Wait,” Joe softly grabbed your wrist, but you couldn’t look at him any second longer.
Opening the door, you walked back out of the party and out into the lobby and out the double doors of the building. You could hear Joe calling your name and his footsteps trying to catch up to you, but it was too late. You got inside the cab, and Joe stood in the middle of the road, watching the cab drove off.
