I have a big google doc thing where I keep track of media and stuff (putting everything in loosely ranked categories), which is mostly just for my own reference so I know what tv shows I've already seen before, etc. and I never really look back through it, typically just a quick "okay, watched two movie in the past 8 months, need to quickly slap them somewhere in the lists. okay. done. save document. exit". But today I was actually reading through some of the old notes and there are like... MULTIPLE places where my comment is basically "It would have been good if it were about elves" or "I wish there was a fantasy show made in this same style" or "It's well made, but I just keep thinking about how I would like it more if everyone was an elf or was in old 1700s costumes" or etc like...... lol.... Most biased media ranking system on earth blatantly made by someone with an extremely hyperspecific range of narrow interests. It'd be like if a food reviewer only had 5 foods they actually liked, so they'd just go to a pizza place and be like "eh, the pizza was okay, but I just think it would be better if it was cereal instead. :/ ...2 out of 10"

Y'all I am so scared. This could either be great or an absolute dumpster fire of a movie. Why live-action? No seriously why live-action??? For Zelda, the games that are so wonderfully cartooney even at their most serious? Why is Avi Arad producing a Zelda movie? His mixed bag of movies aside I DON'T THINK HES DONE FANTASY??? Like correct me if I'm wrong but I believe its mostly sci-fi, superheroes and stuff.
I know I'll enjoy it regardless, trashy movies are my jam. But if we want more it can't flop like 1993 mario(love that movie) and thats the bit thats got me nervous.
I'm gonna anxiously hold out hope solely becuase the tweet opened up with "This is Miyamoto." Just DON'T do BOTW/TOTK. I know you want to pick the cash cow Nintendo, but video game movies are WAY more likely to flop if you pick the one where everyone would rather just play the game. The bigger the fanbase the worse the odds get, so I am begging you not to come out of the gates with an adaptation of the ones where everyone and their mother has played it.

jesus christttt im not surprised at all to hear that the knuckles series focuses on wade and other human characters a lot i saw this coming a mile away with how almost all the news we were getting before the trailer came out was about the human characters/actors and not about knuckles (or sonic or tails or any other animated characters) but the fact that somebody calculated how many minutes of screentime knuckles has and it came out as LESS THAN HALF OF THE ENTIRE SERIES' RUNTIME when the series is NAMED after him is ridiculous. after this show comes out wade will likely have more screentime and overall plot relevance in the entire scu than tails does. did they actually think wade is a popular enough character for people to be down with this. what the fuck

saw someone on twitter say "one of the main characters in a loki show should have been thor odinson, not some random Sylvie or Mobius.
...... It's like a written law"
wdyt do you agree
I don't think it was necessary to make Thor a main character in a Loki show, the same way it WOULD be possible to throw together a Thor movie without having Loki be a main focus.
The issue comes in the quality of the narrative itself, and writing that if evidently without intention to care for (whichever) main character's importance will not work out. Neither the Loki series nor Thor 4 cared about the arc, motivations, history, or continuity of the titular characters beyond trying to make the media marketable.
Overall messaging can add a layer to the impact a story will have. Musical score can be a bonus way to control tone or tie a story together. Supporting cast can be vital to tell a good story. Prioritising their presence over anyone's (especially Loki's) characterisation is what the Loki series suffered from, not that other, original-adjacent characters were there.

rewatched alien covenant for the first time since it came out today and it’s craaaaazy 1. how much of this movie i repressed lol and 2. how many ideas and concepts that i love love love were introduced in the alien prequels that the films (as released) seemed wholly uninterested in actually engaging with

My dad and I did a Star Wars marathon recently. We used to watch the SW movies a lot when I was a kid, so this was a fun experience to go through them again together. (just episodes 1-6) And gosh, it's still a fun series. Is it the best thing ever? Nah, but that wasn't the point. It was silly and/or cheesy at times, there were some eye rolls, there were some odd choices, but there were many more instances of chuckles, laughs, side comments, and complimenting aspects of the story or cinematography or costume design or set design (especially set design. i love the sense of scale and magnitude achieved in many of the shots!!!).
My dad likes to preempt dialogue that he remembers, so it's fun to see him being smug when he gets the line right a second before the character says it. Usually, I hate this, but Star Wars is one of the few things it's actually alright and fun to do it to. (Also, it's fun for me to shake my head at him when he gets a line wrong only to have the character say the proper thing immediately afterwards hehe.)
I'm gonna watch the 2003 Clone Wars series soon, since we skipped that during the marathon. Still my favorite Star Wars movie/show, in large part to its portrayal of Grievous <3

the complaint I have re the Barbie movie that i feel the most passionate about despite/because I know it's not important at all is the 0 acknowledgement of all the Barbie girl horses that have ever existed. Where does ken get off thinking horses are for men. Has he not been surrounded by palomino horses with stupidly long manes and big blue eyes and eyelashes and glittery pink tack his whole life. I try to google the Barbie horses I had and I can't find them because they are all swamped by the many additional extremely girlie Barbie horses that exist

why are leftists on this website unironically complaining about Feminist Killjoys gently reminding everyone that a movie on a corporate IP is trying to sell you something. The movie being good or fun does not mean that it's primary purpose is not to create or increase cultural awareness and good will with consumers so that they can sell something to you

steve & bucky started off so top tier to me like really cooking, but with how shitty canon keeps handling them and how awful fanworks completely ignore their characters and story arcs and their actual dynamic, it feels like there's just no spark left anymore, which sucks cuz it felt/feels like their story was never resolved anywhere and just kinda shoved into a shoebox to dig up and dangle in front of fans every so often like jingling car keys in front of a baby
steve&bucky are one of those ships where the overarching story is beautiful and the character dynamics are great but they get done dirty by the canon narrative and their own stans, mostly because neither side wants to coexist 😭 recent canon wants to act like they were never important to each other/they just “grew apart” after civil war because they’re “too different now” and a majority of the stans are so dead set on ignoring all aspects of canon that they erase what actually makes the ship GOOD.
