honestly my favorite part of a bi-coded jason reading of HoO is the scene in BoO where Jason is dying a little bit and thinking about Nico, and Piper is holding him and giving him a look. and Jason in his fatally wounded delirium goes "Oh! Piper can sense when people are heartbroken or whatever. She must be able to tell I'm thinking about Nico. Because Nico is heartbroken 😌 that's what that look is about."

but actually reading the situation for real it just sounds like Piper is giving Jason an "I know what you are" look.

Percy isn’t one to make snap judgments about anyone so I believe he wouldn’t believe the shallow, surface-level perception of the Aphrodite cabin at all which I thing would make their cabins more like siblings honestly. Although I think that stems from this tiktok creator I see occasionally who posts about how Percy is always in the Aphrodite cabin having like gossip night with them, doing make up and painting each other’s nails and bitching about the other campers and the gods and all that. I truly believe Percy was like adopted by the Aphrodite cabin and he and Drew are like best friends because of it.

Listen. I had fun the last time, so i'm gonna leave here another list of my Riordanverse unpopular opinions/hot takes. I hope no one is gonna cancel me:

- Throwing every single female character in the hunters is lazy writing and kinda OOC for Reyna;

- The Cupid scene is disgusting and the fact that it was made by a queer god makes it even worse;

- Jason and Nico's friendship >>> Percy and Jason's friendship. Nico and Jason were more foils than the latter and Percy will ever be;

- Leo and Nico should have been friends, and the fact that Leo was so scarred of him in HoO is wasted potential;

- Today Percy is basically the not-so-unconfirmed most powerful demigod BUT both Nico and Hazel have the potential to being more powerful than him. However, since Percy is based on Rick's own son he refuses to elaborate on it;

- Actually GROVER is Percy's best friend, not Jason, and in HoO Annabeth and Piper had a more "kinda homoerotic bromance" going on than their boyfriends ever had;

- Aside from that, Jason is clearly alive. Trow that ToA scene away;

- Nico killing Bryce Lawrence is both the most terrifying and the best scene in both PJo and HoO;

- It would have been better if Hazel and Frank were friends-crushingoneachother during HoO and started dating in ToA;

- Riordan's amatonormativity wasted the potential of many characters (like Nico and Leo) and the potential of many friendships;

- Caleo is acceptable in HoO but in ToA it fucking sucks;

- Actually it would have been interesting if Calypso discovered herself as a lesbian during ToA OR in a possible Leo's standalone novel;

- In terms of capabilities, storylines and roles in the plot Percy, Annabeth, Nico, Hazel and Reyna are Riordan's most badass characters. Others (mostly Thalia, Jason and Piper) have the potential but are underdeveloped;

- And that in my opinion is HoO biggest problem: the series has many new interesting characters (Hazel, Leo, Reyna, Jason) but they are underdeveloped in favor of 1) romance and 2) Percabeth being in the major spotlight;

- I have mixed feeling about Percy and Annabeth being part of the Seven;

- Fierrochase >>>>> Solangelo;

- Tsats is utter dogshit and it is REALLY hard to consider it canon;

- Canon Solangelo is ableist and the fact that a big part of the fandom has no problem with it is kinda disturbing. Also some fanon solangelo contents are ableist as well and it is partly RR's fault;

- The fandom basically wrote and characterized Will Solace's character. Neither Riordan or Mark Oshiro give a fuck about him, and problably that's NOT gonna improve in the Tsats sequel;

- Accusing people who don't like solangelo and/or Tsats of homophobia is like the dumbest take ever;

- RR's representation characters are a concentration of stereotypes;

- It would have been better if Piper had her self-discovering - queer storyline from the beginning of HoO. It would have made her more interesting and relatable;

- Even more, it would have been more interesting if Piper had her queer-reveal storyline in HoO THANKS to her not-so-straight chemistry with Annabeth;

- Making Nico a overly morally correct/morally "pure" character makes him less interesting;

- CJ >>> CHB;

- Nico should be a rough demigod;

- It is heavily implied that the majority of CHB STILL doesn't like Nico and they only "tolerate" him because they like Will;

- Bisexual Jason is better and makes more sense than bisexual Percy. Jason's arc is basically a metaphor of bisexuality;

- It makes me sad how RR basically throw away every other Nico's beautiful relationships (with Jason, Reyna, Hazel, even Percy..) in favor of solangelo. Nico WAS a complex and developed character, now he's kinda just "the gay one";

- With his latest works RR is ruining his own franchise;

- PJo>>>>>>MG>>>ToA>>HoO;

Things I Would Change About PJO

(I might write a fanfic based on these points):

The whole Hunters-Of-Artemis thing. Like what do you mean Artemis hates all men. What about Orion and all the rest. What do you mean she hates Apollo. She loves him so much. Stop already. That whole thing was just erroneous interpretation of Greek Mythology and it felt really weird and toxic.

Annabeth and Percy's trauma bond. Annabeth is pretty toxic in a relationship, especially in the HoO books when she and Percy get together. Love their relationship as a concept but the way Rick writes it is just... not it. To show Annabeth as a "strong woman" he continuously makes her put Percy down - and not only in COTG and WOTTG. She literally judo-flips him when they met after that long traumatic period where Percy was suffering from amnesia and being killed so many times. I would love to see more of their dynamic as friends and make it a longer, healthier, equal-footed relationship.

Thalia Grace joining the Hunters and never leaving. What the hell. She only joined to escape the Great Prophecy 1. She can leave right after the Battle of Manhattan and take Percy's place in Great Prophecy 2.

Bianca being alive, only "lost" (never specified dead!). It's a pretty big plot-point for Nico and I think it would probably have a bigger impact on him to lose his only care-giver and watch her come back into his life after he's grieving greatly and he's in the process of learning how to live life without her. It would truly change up their entire systems and I would love to see Nico and Bianca coming to a point where they realize it's time to live their own lives. ALSO STOP TREATING BIANCA LIKE A PLOT-DEVICE FOR NICO. COME ON. DO BETTER.

Make Nico better. In general. The character has so much potential but is just reduced to "sunshine character's grumpy emo goth boyfriend" or "kid whose type is NOT PERCY HAHAHAHA SO FUNNY". Give him some more development.

LUKE WAS A GROOMER AND ACTIVELY ENGAGED IN HUMAN TRAFFICKING. WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU JUST FORGIVE HIM AND NOT OCTAVIAN, WHO WAS LITERALLY BULLIED AND MANIPULATED INTO DOING THE SHIT HE DID. If you want to hate Luke, hate Octavian too. If you want to forgive him, forgive Octavian too. Stop hating complex characters.

CALEO. OH MY GOD CALEO. LIKE ACTUALLY DIE. THAT IS SO HORRIBLE.

Piper does not need to be gay.

Jason does not need to die.

Why would Nico search for Bianca and bring Hazel back? That thing makes no sense. His whole arc in TLO was to accept the loss of his sister. Instead, bring out Ethan Nakamura who is still angry and jealous and wants to bring balance to the world. He comes out on his own, BTW.

The whole "Wilderness school" plotline thing. OF COURSE monsters would come for Pipes and Leo. They're really damn powerful and really damn young. What the hell do you mean by they never knew anything till Jason? smh.

SOLANGELO. CAN'T BELIEVE I'M SAYING THIS BUT IT'S OUT THERE. Will is just a blank character to show that Nico's gay and prove he's over Percy (STOP WITH THE "NOT MY TYPE" JOKES OH MY GOD GET OVER IT ALREADY WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU). If you're doing this, at least give me a good, long slow-burn. Or don't show it at all. Nico decides to live in normal life after being shunned and confused all his life in the magical world. Now he finds a mortal boyfriend and is actually thriving. His character is so beautiful like stop ruining him and using him as a goddamn plot-device all the time. Ugh.

CHANGE NICO'S COMING OUT SCENE! LITERALLY WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT.

Jason and Piper breaking up was such a good plot point because not everyone falls in love but you need to make it heart-wrenching. Jason doesn't know what's going on. He's just dating Piper because that's what he's being told, that's what he did his whole life. MAKE IT HAPPEN IN HOO.

NO FRAZEL AND LEO LOVE TRIANGLE. ALSO JUST NO FRAZEL IN GENERAL. STOP WITH THE FRAZEL. THAT'S SO UNHEALTHY.

MAKE LEO ARO/ACE GODDAMN. He has so much potential. Like he always feels loveless? Like a failure? Feels a need to have a partner to prove his worth? DIE. MAKE HIM ARO/ACE. MAKE HIM DEAL WITH ALL THAT.

Actually valgrace is a pretty good plot point as well. valdangelo as well.

WHY AREN'T THERE ANY POLY SHIPS IN PJO? SMH. SERIOUSLY. SO MUCH POTENTIAL.

Properly developing and writing LGBTQ ships.

Ok, but when have we actually SEEN a good LGBTQ ship being DEVELOPED AND WRITTEN PROPERLY?

Like with Percabeth, you can see their development over the course of the series. WHEN HAVE WE SEEN THAT WITH GAY MALES OR LESBIAN FEMALES? I've never seen it (if you have, though, tell me please.)

We almost never get gay characters as major characters. Sure, Piper Mclean is bisexual, but we never knew it until the literal END of Trials of Apollo even though she was a major character in HOO and even starred as a side character for Trials of Apollo. Was her POV in HOO about discovering her bisexuality and coming out? No. Piper's representation is so shoved in that it barely counts, TBH. Though that is just my opinion on this matter-no need to agree with it.

And Nico di Angelo is gay, but his rep was handled terribly. A forced coming out with no closure and being paired off with a random side character to 'prove' his gayness. Also, Will being a terrible partner for Nico (sharing his medical information without authority, and being someone's doctor and boyfriend is problematic for boundaries. Nico could have had another doctor. Seriously, are there no Athena kids in the infirmary, or no trainee Apollo kids?).

I'm just saying that I'm not sure if Solangelo is good representation because we don't really get any development and whatever development there is on Nico's side is somewhat deteriorated. We don't even get much of Will as a character. No development at all.

And with the lesbian couple, Jo and Emmie, in ToA? No development-plus they got kicked out of a supposedly safe space for being lesbians. Very problematic.

And Piper and Shel? NOTHING. No page time. None whatsoever. No development or good writing.

Lavinia and Poison Oak? We're told, not shown. We don't even see Poison Oak.

Fierrochase is the only developed ship, and even then, it's a little rushed. (Just my opinion).

okayy first post rahh, ive just put together my general headcannons of what a valgrace relationship would have looked like throughout HoO and ToA so hope you enjoy!

When Jason pops up at wilderness school instantly he is like Wtf why am I dating this girl I want him 

Bro is just very confused

Leo is having his own crisis because this is my best friend who's dating my other best friend why do I feel like this pls send help

Anyways they get to camp and are sent on that quest and oh the underlying tension is wild

Piper realizing she might not even like men, Jason panicking because why do I like Leo more than my own girlfriend, and poor Leo I fell in love with my best friend Valdez

Jason being so jealous whenever Leo so much as looks at a girl

Like “Look at me not her wtf bro”

And Leo's just over here trying to hit up a goddess since the guy he likes is taken 

Anyways they get back to camp and Piper's siblings are like girlie what are you doing break up with him so Piper and Jason break up

Now cut to MONTHS of Leo and Jason being cluelessly in love each one not wanting to make things weird or ruin their friendship

Jason freaking the fuck out when Leo gets possessed and babying him wanting to make sure he's okay

Leo in turn worrying about Jason who's suffered two concussions within the week and who really should sit down and stay there

All of the crew is like why tf aren't they dating wdym their not dating this is fruity as fuck

Poor Piper is actually on her last straw

Any time Leo or Jason is in danger the other one is actually losing their shit

Leo being all proud of himself after swooping in on the Agro to help Jason when Percy and Jason are fighting Ephialtes and Otis

Also once Jason is back on the Argo Jason picking up Leo in one of those spinny hugs and Leo actually stopping working 

Leo in Jason's arms when the crew re-convinces after Percy and Annabeth fall into Tartarus

Jason going off with Nico and then having an actual crisis after giving Nico a whole talk about why it's okay to be gay and then suddenly it clicks 

Jason going to Piper for advice and she points out his obvious feelings for Leo

Leo finding Jason flying in the sky that night and they end up kissing 

The two are all super cute and coupley and then Khione punts Leo's ass out of there

Jason is obviously freaking the fuck out because I miss my boyfriend and he is desperately trying to find a way to get Leo back

Meanwhile after spending a few days fighting with Calypso Leo and her actually get to talking and the two realize they make really good friends

Finally, the raft appears cuz shocking love can be platonic too.

Leo vows to come back for her horrified that they would abandon her there

Leo and Jason are reunited and our fav gays are back rah

As the underlying issue of the prophecy starts to cause concern Leo decides that he's got to be the one to die thinking that Jason is better than him

Jason is having a similar crisis but is trying to imagine a way for both of them to survive thinking they could find a loophole in the prophecy 

The crew still comes up with the plan to find the physician's cure 

Leo gets Hazel to make the mist copy and makes her promise to not tell Jason

Jason and Leo sit on deck the night before the final battle and Jason admits to being afraid that something is going to happen to them 

Leo knowing that he's going to die tells Jason to focus on the present and that if anyone can prove the prophets wrong it's them

They go into the battle and Leo kisses Jason on Festus before pushing him out of the way as Octavian and his fireball come toward them

Leo wakes up back in Ogygia and he and Calypso set off since Leo wants to get back to Jason as soon as possible feeling horrible for leaving him like that 

Meanwhile, Jason is absolutely heartbroken after seeing Leo die and is lost 

Piper stays by his side and the two end up going to California due to Jason finding it hard to be at Camp Half-Blood without Leo due to the amount of reminders of him everywhere 

Jason and Piper go into the maze and Jason hears the prophecy about him dying and sees it as his chance to get reunited with Leo 

Leo meanwhile touches down in Camp Half-Blood and is very upset to not see Jason 

He is recruited by Apollo and agrees to go along planning to leave to go to Jason as soon as he gets the chance 

While at the waystation he tells literally anyone who will listen about how much he misses his boyfriend and how he has to make it up to him for what happened 

After learning that Camp Jupiter is going to be in trouble Leo quickly gets ready to leave hoping that that's where he will find Jason

before he leaves Thalia gives him the don't hurt my little brother or else talk lmao

Jason meets Apollo when he arrives in California and is shocked to find out Leo is alive 

He has a breakdown with Apollo in his dorm room and tells him about the prophecy and how if he goes he won’t get to see Leo again

Jason finally comes to terms with not seeing Leo again thinking that he might give Leo a fighting chance at surviving and getting to have a normal life

He writes Leo a letter which he gives to Apollo to give to Leo whenever he sees Leo next

Later that day Jason was stabbed and killed saving Apollo and their friends 

Leo who had arrived at Camp Jupiter still crushed not to see his boyfriend helped them to fight the battle and was preparing to finally get back to Piper and Jason 

Hazel ran up to him and panicked tells Leo he needs to get to Jason as quick as possible since she feels that something bad was going to happen 

Leo gets to them in record time but he is too late and he meets them at the airport to see his boyfriend's coffin 

Leo goes with Apollo and Meg to Jaons funeral and he throws himself into helping create the temples for the gods that Jason had planned

Leo participates in the second battle and he stays with Apollo and Frank  to fight the emperors 

Leo stabs Caligula in revenge for his boyfriend before Frank blows up the tunnel with the emperor inside 

Leo survives the battle and is relieved to be reunited with Frank who was resurrected 

Apollo pulls Leo aside before leaving and gives Leo the letter from Jason 

Leo heads back to the waystation still very much heartbroken

he reads the letter and decides to try to live the normal life Jason had hopped for him

Anyway!! this has been too long but I love my tragic gay romance so oops

might make Jason's letter for Leo later

I like to think that there are two versions/eras of piper McLean.

The first era is during HoO. She has a boyfriend, she happy, and she somewhat knows how to take care of herself in battle. Apperance wise she has the long hair and the first glance look of a child of Aphrodite.

The second era is during ToA, or after Jason’s death. She realises she likes girls, (hc that after she met Shel she realised why her and Jason were so distant. It’s bcs she was lesbian and he was OBVIOUSLY so so gay) and she now knows how to fight properly. Apperance wise she cut her hair short (hc she believes in “hair holds memories”) and at first glance it’s somewhat difficult to see if she’s a child of Aphrodite or a more battle involved God/Goddess

Then again this is just my opinion and views on my precious little child Piper flipping McLean because I love her with all my heart and I wanted to see if anyone agreed with my view on her :D (the images are sort of what I mean how she looks like btw)

Piper's the one who sees it first, and makes the decision. Jason is heartbroken, but understands - he even, dare I say, agrees that they should end the relationship. it was built on fake memories - you could say it was built on lies.

and now Jason has this opportunity to step back and analyze who he is and what he wants.

what he finds is depressing. everything he's had, everything's he's been up till now...

but maybe now he could start navigating his own life. without some god intervening for once. this would be good for him, and for Piper, to find their own way.

but then. then they talk to Herophile...and find out one of them will die. And Jason? Well, he's not going to let Piper be taken from the life she deserves. he may not be her boyfriend, her knight in shining armor, but he sure as HELL loves her - especially as a friend. And if there's one thing you should know about Jason? It's that he loves his friends.

so what does he do? He sacrifices himself. He duels Caligula himself, and urges Piper, Meg, and Apollo to Go, save yourselves! and -

he's stabbed. through the chest. the only thing he can do? Look to Apollo, to the blue gaze so much like his own drenched in horror, and ask; Remember. because he didn't get to live the life he wished, but maybe Apollo could - no, Apollo can, he can make the difference Jason wanted. Because he trusts Apollo.

Jason doesn't regret his sacrifice. he saved Piper from the prophecy, after all. He saved Apollo & Meg's lives too.

in fact, Jason didn't really mind dying. Because he didn't have much of a life either. And a life like that? shrug It's worth sacrificing for those who deserve theirs.

and as icing on the cake, remember who Jason's father is? The almighty, all-powerful Jupiter himself, King of the Gods?

he doesn't do a damn thing to help Jason. Not a single. Thing.

because Jupiter/Zeus doesn't care about his children. Especially his sons.

Zeus saved Thalia. But he didn't even try to save Jason.

Trying would have at least lessened the pain...

People like to claim Jason is a bland, boring character who's never suffered a minute in his life. That he's a golden retriever with no flaws.

Well.

Take a look up there and ask yourself - it that the life of a boy who knows no suffering?

Because it sure as hell don't look that way to me.

To me, it looks like Jason was a used, depressed young man who never got to choose his own path. Who's father abandoned him first to his wife's mercy, then to a cruel emperor's.

Jason Grace suffered.

and he never got to live that happy life he saw within the Fates.

Never got to get that family, those grandchildren he saw himself telling the story of the Argo II to.

Because The Fall of Jason Grace is a true, utter tragedy.
