fun facts
Portugal. The Man is a band from Alaska. while in high school, several of the members lived in Wasilla while Sarah Palin was mayor. they went to a town hall meeting and asked if the city would build a skate park. palin said they would, but only if the kids raised half the money-- clearly not expecting them to be able to pull it off. the band members actually were able to, but unsurprisingly, palin didn't hold up her end of the deal. they gathered all their punk friends and went to every town hall meeting for a year until the city built the skate park, to the dismay of sarah palin
"Pumped Up Kicks" follows a fictional character as he fantasizes about killing his rich classmates. the odd pairing of upbeat tune and dark lyrics was intentional: Mark Foster said that "it’s a ‘fuck you’ song to the hipsters in a way – but it’s a song the hipsters are going to want to dance to"

Basically had this stuck permanently in my head since it got put up.
The funkiest. There's really something to taking nu-metal nonsense and setting it to anything else. The Slipknot/Spice Girls one is a good example of this.

honestly a crime that i only saw the Rich Friends music video because i got into Sunny. like that video is so fucking good. the song is awesome on its own but the visuals in the video are amazing and just the concept itself is the coolest thing ever and it’s executed so perfectly. like i could’ve been watching the goddamn video for six years why did no one tell me this video existed???? (<- rhetorical question) it’s just so genuinely fun to watch and yet the only Portugal. The Man song i knew before that was Feel It Still which is still good but not as good. i just really like music videos that tell a story (especially when that story is related to the song) and i feel like i don’t talk about music enough despite the username cuz most of my thoughts are too personal to share online or it’s just general analysis that’s already been done but i do really love this video. weird for me to recommend something here cuz i don’t do it a lot but you should watch this.

Lyrics:
Can't keep my hands to myself
Think I'll dust 'em off, put 'em back up on the shelf
In case my little baby girl is in need
Am I coming out of left field?
Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now
I been feeling it since 1966, now
Might be over now, but I feel it still
Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now
Let me kick it like it's 1986, now
Might be over now, but I feel it still
Got another mouth to feed
Leave her with a baby sitter, mama, call the grave digger
Gone with the fallen leaves
Am I coming out of left field?
Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now
I been feeling it since 1966, now
Might've had your fill, but you feel it still
Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now
Let me kick it like it's 1986, now
Might be over now, but I feel it still
We could fight a war for peace
(Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now)
Give in to that easy living
Goodbye to my hopes and dreams
Stop flipping for my enemies
We could wait until the walls come down
(Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now)
It's time to give a little to the
Kids in the middle, but oh 'til it falls
Won't bother me
Is it coming?
Is it coming?
Is it coming?
Is it coming?
Is it coming?
Is it coming back?
Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, yeah
Your love is an abyss for my heart to eclipse, now
Might be over now, but I feel it still

Aces tattoo has a reason for being spelled like that, you find out after the marineford/summit saga. Also like many things I recommend not googling it. Or him in general.
Ahhh thank you I can't wait!
