Nonprofit Works to Eradicate Poverty Through Business, Not Charity
Nonprofit Works to Eradicate Poverty Through Business, Not Charity
I have had the pleasure of reporting from low-income countries in east Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean many times and have seen a multitude of poverty eradication efforts from organizations that are created by social entrepreneurs to those that are funded by foundations, corporations and countries’ developmental aid. No matter the organizations’ efforts, there are key poverty eradication tenets…

It's October 17th, 💰 the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. On this day in 1987, more than 100,000 people gathered in Paris, France – where the Declaration of Human Rights was signed in 1948. They came to witness humanitarian Joseph Wresinski's unveiling of a commemorative stone in honor of the innocent people of the world who suffer under the shackles of poverty. The stone's inscription declared that poverty is a violation of human rights, and thus it's everybody’s duty to work together to eradicate it.
In December 1992, the United Nations adopted a resolution to observe this day as the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. The crisis is now worse than ever. The COVID-19 pandemic managed to reverse decades of progress, and the measures imposed to limit the spread of the virus often pushed communities further into poverty. The informal economy that usually enables poor people to barely survive virtually shut down in many countries.
Now, many leaders talk of “building back better,” but the message from the people living in extreme poverty is that they have no wish to return to the past, nor to build back to what it used to be. They want to build forward – that means transforming our relationship with nature, adhering to the principles of basic human rights, and dismantling structures of discrimination that disadvantage people in poverty. ☮️ Peace… Jamiese of Pixoplanet

Speaking of maps... as you do. This is interesting and concerning.
In particular this image:
Tumblr media
"Dark green means people on average life over the age of 80. Light green means people die between their 79th and 80th birthday." (from the article)
So no Northern Territory of Australia - because Indigenous Australians make up 30% of the population (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Territory) - the largest demographic, and their life expectancy and health outcomes are dismal.
Also very little South America, no Africa, little Eastern Europe, Eurasia, South Asia, the Middle East, East Asia, South East Asia and Oceania.

NO wait this is my last point actually even though i’m on a tangent now. but i do think it is at least somewhat related to people’s inability to let go of punitive justice. like we could kill every bigot that means us harm in one fell swoop, and that still would not change anything. that would not do anything. the machine will just keep churning them out
you have to kill the machine or it doesn’t fucking matter
