i wonder what the process was when Charles left the school in dark phoenix
i don’t think anyone was sad that he left ☹️
they immediately got rid of his name and replaced it with Jean’s
like imagine leaving the one place you’ve built your entire life on and then just being replaced like it was nothing
i wonder how long it took for Erik to come find him afterwards
did they not keep any kind of memorial or tribute to Charles??? HE STARTED THE DAMN THING BE GRATEFUL
like they could at least have a picture of him that says “founder of the jean grey school, formerly Xavier’s school for gifted youngsters” OR SOMETHING 😭😭
like i get he’s an old white man and that we have plenty of those guys doing stuff but cmon show like a bit of respect for him at least 😿
writers of dark phoenix i will find you for butchering nearly everyone in this movie

Nico's Powers and Rick way of writing them.
Honestly,I've been wainting to write this.
We all know Nico powers:
Can manipulate the shadows and travel in them (Umbra-kinesis);
Can sense someone's death and soul;
Can summon ghosts and talk to them;
Can summon skeletons that obey to his orders and fight for him;
Can use dreams to send messages;
Can unconsciously split the ground and create cracks or Underworld's openings;
Can turn someone into a ghost and make them forgot their life and ability to speak;
Can turn someone into a skeleton;
Has influence on the dead and can evade them when he has to;
Can create earthquakes (not major ones like Percy);
Technically has Geo-kinesis powers too (like Hazel);
Can summon zombies to serve him;
Can conditionate the CJ's lares speaking ability by forcing them to shut up;
Can influence the dead ones with his mood;
Death-touch;
(If I missed some feel free to add)
Other than this,you need to remember that his title as Ghost King give him some more leverage,and his sword is an uniqueness in the world that give him the ability to suck someone's soul in it.
By only this list you can tell that Nico is extremely powerful,and he is still younger than Percy,with a weak physical body (depression and ED do some wonders to you-) and wasn't never "officially trained" like him since he wasn't around camp much. But he still pulled insane acts even without being 100% ok most of the time.
Nico powers,differently from Percy and Thalia,are extremely versatile. While those two can use whatever source or form of water/lightning to fight,they can't do much outside of their fathers's domains. And then you have Nico. Nico that can use his powers to travel around the world and sending messages with a mental link,other than use them to fight. People always talks about Percy controll over all types of liquid (even poison or the Underworld's rivers),but there is still water in them,so it's normal for him to do so. Thalia can use lightnings because it's normal for her to do so since those are Zeus's main sources of power. But Nico's powers are more than just controlling the dead,he can manipulate dreams (something that only the Hypnos cabin can do if I remember correctly) and can use geo-kinesis too,even tho not as much good or frequent as Hazel (before she started to work with her mist affinity). He can do it all.
I'm not trying to pull the "Nico is more powerful than Percy" argument here,but more focusing on Nico's versatility usage of his powers. And Rick made a mistake here with him,that he realized later and tried to minimize.
You see,when you have a powerscaling system,you usually take the main character as the "default": it's from them that you start to build it so other people can understand where others characters stand,compared to the MC,on the scale. Most of the time,people want their MC to grow stronger after every fight,starting from the bottom,untill they are the most powerful character in the story. It's a format done everywhere (anime,movie,comics,fanfic,books,ecc...) and Rick Riordan also used it with Percy. And when you have as MC the "most powerful character ever" (in this case the most powerful demigod since Heracles times),you need to be careful with your side characters,especially when the author doesn't want them to outshine the MC. For this reason,most of the time,they are either weaker than them or have extremely excessive drowbacks. A good example of this is Jason: Rick introduced him to us as the roman counterpart for Percy,but made us understand that he wasn't never at Percy level of power. And when you have a "side" character as Nico,adding to the fact that he's most of the time the wild card for their victories and always know everything,you have a big problem.
Riordan made it clear that no one (for now) can surpass Percy in term of abilities. But he still went out of his way making Nico's powers more versatile than the others. Logically,he should have been stronger than Percy,especially because death cannot be stoped and it's part of everyone life,but canonically it wasn't going to happen since the MC is Percy. Riordan realized in a second moment that his powers were too much and decided to make sure Nico was always held back by something from going full out (like Jason).
Nico is the only child of the big 3 that,if he use so much of his powers,has extremely horrible drowbacks even when he shouldn't. I could understand during MoA-BoO events in HoO,he was either dying or disappearing into the shadows because of his kidnapping and Tartarus,and still had an extremely draining task to finish. But from HoO to ToA there is a big timeskip (I think 6 months or more but I'm not so sure) where he should had all the time in the world to heal and having back full controll over his powers. But he doesn't. Nico still faint after shadow-travelling,even tho after his trip with the statue he should have been stronger and not having problems for a normal trip. Which sucks,especially when Rick most of the time make him pull some jaw-dropping power-play that give you the full picture on how strong he really is.
I don't think Percy had so many downgrades with his powers,I never saw him almost fainting from controlling the waters. He get tired,yes,but that's it. Thalia has more restrictions because of her fear,but I also never saw her having so many problems after using her powers (after she went with the Hunters we never see her in general anymore). Neither did Hazel with her geo-kinesis powers (before Rick decided to make her learn mist manipulation). Jason is a whole mess because he faint every day when he gets hit by a brick,even when he isn't fighting or using his powers (Rick didn't do him justice either). It's only Nico that has so many negative effects.
And the fandom can explain it,in a canon logic,with: "He's s still young,he will have time to grow stronger." (I agree) ;"He wasn't never in a good physical condition so it's normal that he has this many negative effects." (Even dying he was still able to curse someone to literally becoming a ghost) ; "He was malnourished and depressed,since he didn't take care of himself before he still have problems,wait for him to be healthy." (Again,even in those conditions he still pulled insane stunts). But,outside of the narrative,Riordan totally nerfed him because he realized that he wrote his powers too powerful and useful compared to Percy's,and since he couldn't have his MC outshined,he made sure to slow Nico in any way possible.
In BotL and TLO there are 2 scenes that,for a long time,I thought I was the only one to ever have read them since no one talked about them.
In the end of BotL when Percy get out of the Labyrinth and went with Rachel to see the coffin,Nico created an earth barrier (or something closer to it) to help them escape form Kronos's attack. He never did that after it,and I never saw people acknowledge that scene so I legitimately thought that I was imaginating it. Which was strange since it came right after the famous "Did you just throw a blue brush in the eye of the Titan Lord?" scene,but no. It really happened and Nico did use the earth at his liking. After that Riordan decided to never bought it up and Nico never manipulated the earth in that way (he still split the ground a couple of times) again.
In TLO after Nico went to free Percy from the dungeons,they escaped the palace and went to the Styx. During their escaping Nico glared at the guards,while growing weaker and weaker with each one,and they ignored them. Again,since I never saw someone talk about it I genuinely thought I was remembering things wrong. Especially because it was part of the whole "Betrayal" plot that everyone know. But again,it wasn't the case,Rick just decided to never bring it up again. It was the only time Nico did something like that. Someone can say "Well,those are the royal guards and their boss is his dad they would never go against him." but the guards were against Nico,if he didn't do whatever the fuck he did,they were going to tell Hades about their escape. So,again,Rick realized he gave him a powerful trick and then hoped that one one would remember it after he used it one time.
All of this shows that,even if he is good at writing certain things,when it comes to others topics (like power-scaling,Tartarus's trauma and many more) he just can't write well and try to put patches on the holes,without having success. But that's for another post that I will do.
Rick lack of continuation in his work,and he needs to decide what the hell he is going to do with Nico,because the guy himself is a contradiction that needs to be solved. And if I see someone else say that he is weak because he continue to faint,I'm gonna crash out very very very bad since it's Rick's fault. Nico has grown enough in his power to stand tall and use them without having majors problems (if he abuse them,then of course he is in big troubles). He isn't anymore the 13 years old kid that was dying during a world-ending trip after days of being captive by the enemy,and Riordan needs to acknowledge it and move on from that.

I find it interesting how the general concensus is that Viktor and Jayce broke up in act one.
I truly believe they never had an actual falling out, Jayce did something unforgivable to Viktor as the ultimate act of love, Viktor now fully possesed by the hexcore goes to Zaun to start converting people. Jayce thinks Viktor needs some time and fully expects him to come back to the lab at some point. Jayce spends the rest of the show clawing his way back to Viktor while Viktor's indentity is completely erased by the hexcore (which also tries to replace Jayce's memory with Sky).
These mfs never broke up, as soon as they got separated for the first time in the show they were constantly seeking one another and they kinda burnt the world to the ground making it happen.

Caitlyn is definitely water, and anyone who says otherwise needs to watch the show again. Caitlyn has changed from a normal, somewhat naive girl, to a vengeful, sad girl, to a girl who takes on the position of leader to protect her people, then turns on Ambessa to protect Vi and Vi's family, and then forgives Jinx, the person who ruined her life and has Vi free her. All this and some people say that she hasn't changed and that she's just like fire because she's a person with power. It's not about power or conquest, it's about destruction. Fire always symbolizes destruction in most cultures, and this suits Jinx very well. Jinx is always destroying and spoiling things and most of the time she does it just for fun, not for a clear purpose. Even if Caitlyn does something bad, her actions are less harmful than the rest of the characters in the show, including Jinx.
Video by: ( @homelanderwuvsyouv2 ) on Instagram
I say this because I saw many comments on this video saying that Caitlyn should be fire and Jinx should be water, and their reason is because Caitlyn is a leader and she was seeking to destroy and invade Zaun, and she never changed, I really was wondering (did these idiots actually watch the show? Or do they watch with they asses not eyes ) because they literally forgot what Caitlyn did to prevent destruction or anything that harmed innocent people, we saw her in episode 1 preventing the invasion and went with a small team to minimize the losses, even when Caitlyn took over the position of leader, she did not use her power to do bad things "like Ambessa and Silco". Caitlyn always opposed Ambessa for using violent methods.
What I love about Caitlyn's character, despite her sadness and anger, she never lost her principles and seeks justice, even in the game Caitlyn is always symbolized as a character who always seeks justice.
I personally think that all the hate towards Cait is, misogyny and homophobia aside for a moment, also due to the fact that she is not a static character. She moves and changes a lot, but she is one of the few characters in Arcane who also CHANGES FOR THE BETTER, who ACTIVELY MOVES to change things. And a lot of people do not understand this, she is not a villain, she is not always in the good side. She does the right things, but she also does the wrong things, the important thing is that at the end she accepts her mistakes, her emotions, and she is willing to sacrifice herself to do better. THIS is what makes her a dynamic character, makes her aware. This is what makes her so resilient and caring and it is really bad to notice how people are so unused to this representation that they criticize her to the point of hating her. She moves and changes a lot, but she is one of the few characters in Arcane who also CHANGES FOR THE BETTER, who ACTIVELY MOVES to change things. And a lot of people do not understand this, she is not a villain, she is not always in the good side. THIS is what makes her a dynamic character, makes her aware. This is what makes her so resilient and caring and it is really bad to notice how people are so unused to this representation that they criticize her to the point of hating her. She's complex, ofc, but try to do better from every mistake. It is so rare.
So I agree with the rest of the comparisons like Vi symbolizes the earth, and Ekko symbolizes the air, I really love this.

something about Blitz gearing up for a fight, because he thought stolas would fight back. Blitz has had this wrong idea of Stolas in his head this whole time: untouchable, uncaring, playing with his feelings. If you only see the scenes of interaction with Blitz and block out every scene of turmoil and emotion, it's kind of easy to see things from Blitz's perspective.
Because Stolas really is supremely stronger than Blitz, and that's confirmed to him in Truth Seekers when he sees his real demon form. That confession scene to Blitz was literally all wrong: too soft, too caring. Obviously a sexual roleplay of some kind and if he got the wrong idea then he was the fool.
When he understands what Stolas is saying his first reaction is anger but specifically at Stolas saying "that's enough to know what this is" because...why the fuck can you choose for both of us what this is? aren't you gonna give me like two seconds to consider this? You're not even gonna let me express myself bc my opinion is worth nothing to you etc.
So he gets angry about something more pressing that comes to him quicker than understanding, which is Stolas' usual treatment of imps in his presence or how he feels smaller and used.
Then he straight up gears up for a fight with "Let's go!". What he probably imagined Stolas to say back was some kind of possessive pretentious thing or even to attack him: because Blitz has felt more like his property, at the hands of a puppeteer so much stronger than him.
But that's the thing, he doesn't know how Stolas truly is, how kind he actually is. So just at the very end when he cries he understands that all this image he's built up of him in his head is wrong. not only can he get hurt physically, but emotionally too.

“but shal, how could crowley have slept with naomi when fergus macleod wasn’t alive yet????”
well. for starters, “mesopotamia” could’ve just been a general poetic.
but also could be as simple as… he didn’t.
he has intel on her. and he’s posturing, as usual. because that’s what crowley does.
double entendres and innuendos are his weapons of choice to sow distrust, suspicion, discomfort, derision. to put you off balance, if he can. (and if that fails, he’ll switch to insults or, at worst, incessant goading.)
And the thing is… almost ALL his posturing is sexual. it’s how he wields power (from what traditionally tends to be from a weaker position)
it’s more about how he operates and fergus’s victimhood/ historical demon trauma more than it is a statement of de facto truth
he wants you to read into it
get distracted; get discomfited
just long enough to take your eye off the ball or give him the upper hand in a power struggle
#posturing characters#weak position banter#about crowley#crowley and naomi#fergus’s demon trauma#one of the fascinating things about crowley is#like rowena and sam he is not good w ppl nor particularly charismatic#which makes him a weak hell king#the sam rowena crowley triad of ambition#they’re all three wily persistent dangerous#but not naturally charismatic by nature i don’t think#sam’s moreso got a heroism ppl respond to but not as natural at decision making responsibility carrying#sam is better in larger groups seems to struggle when they get too close#crowley tho#anyway he inspires no loyalty in hell#then he spirals in a fit of caesarian paranoia and keeps reaching for more power to solve for his own inadequacies#crowley is excellent with tactics leading up to a power grab#lucifer has similar issues but has more cognitive empathy i think#lucifer is confident and crowley isn’t#and lucifer’s cognitive empathy contrasts crowley’s most self-directed emotions (crowley’s insecurity at work)#for example…#sam tries to kill crowley and crowley is like ?????#conveniently propping himself and his own efforts up INSTEAD of remembering he killed ppl sam saved and loved like 2 seconds ago#lucifer’s cognitive empathy is like oh yeah 👍 guess i deserved getting locked in AU world#lucifer isn’t just physically stronger… he’s better at reading ppl than crowley is#uncool kids table with sam metatron rowena crowley#crowley is NOT self reflective very much at all#i can count on one hand#crowley is actually less introspective than lucifer which is saying something#like sam crowley analyzes others but rationalizes his own behavior

Ever so politely. I need your Jacob Kane to get the shit beat out of him. That mother fucker doesn't deserve breathing privileges.
OH NO I AGREE!!! Comic Jacob? (so far) Relatively distant. Kinda like that e-mail sitting in your inbox app. Harmless. Doesn't require much brain power to think about it. Kate keeps him at arm’s length and rightfully so. They're not on speaking terms.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What I love about Kate so for is her refusal to let others designate who she is. She doesn't need Bruce to be a good vigilante.
She doesn't let The Weeping Woman blame her for her mother and sister, — even if she probably does feel remorse and survival’s guilt. You don't lose a sister and walk away fine.
And most importantly, a father, for her, shouldn't be the most exciting part about being alive.
But there IS affection there. Barbed and thorned and wrapped in a coffin, but its there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I fucking love estranged daughter/tired father who knows there's no force in this world that could stop her, dynamic. Jacob is proud of Kate, in his own way. Not enough to keep her, though. For sure not enough to keep Bruce.
My Jacob is different. I just like the thought of. I don't know what to do with you. I prepared for something else. This is the only thing that I can give you and it'll hurt.
In the end, Jacob isn't Bruce's father. He was supposed to be Kate’s. And he failed a little too hard at it.
But he is trying. That’ll never be enough, not quite, but it’s there.

Wild how we know that Elizabeth Woodville was officially appointed to royal councils in her own right during her husband’s reign and fortified the Tower of London in preparation of a siege while 8-months pregnant and had forces gathering at Westminster “in the queen’s name” in 1483 – only for NONE of these things to be even included, let alone explored, in the vast majority of scholarship and historical novels involving her.
#lol I don't remember writing this - I found it when I was searching for something else in my drafts. But it's 100% true so I had to post it.#elizabeth woodville#my post#Imo this is mainly because Elizabeth's negative historiography has always involved both vilification and diminishment in equal measure.#and because her brand of vilification (femme fatale; intriguer) suggests more indirect/“feminine” than legitimate/forceful types of power#It's still bizarre though-you'd think these would be some of the most famous & defining aspects of Elizabeth's life. But apparently not#I guess she only matters when it comes to marrying Edward and Promoting Her Family and scheming against Richard#There is very lacking interest in her beyond those things even in her traditionally negative depictions#And most of her “reassessments” tend to do diminish her so badly she's rendered utterly irrelevant and almost pathetic by the end of it#Even when some of these things *are* mentioned they're never truly emphasized as they should be.#See: her formal appointment in royal councils. It was highly unconventional + entirely unprecedented for queens in the 14th & 15th century#You'd think this would be incredibly important and highlighted when analyzing late medieval queenship in England but apparently not#Historians are more willing to straight-up INVENT positions & roles for so many other late medieval queens/king's mothers that didn't exist#(not getting into this right now it's too long...)#But somehow acknowledging and discussing Elizabeth's ACTUAL formally appointed role is too much for them I guess#She's either subsumed into the general vilification of her family (never mind that they were known as 'the queen's kin' to actual#contemporaries; they were defined by HER not the other way around) or she's rendered utterly insignificant by historians. Often both.#But at the end of the day her individual role and identity often overlooked or downplayed in both scenarios#and ofc I've said this before but - there has literally never been a proper reassessment of Elizabeth's role in 1483-85 TILL DATE#despite the fact that it's such a sensational and well-known time period in medieval England#This isn't even a Wars of the Roses thing. Both Margaret of Anjou and Margaret Beaufort have had multiple different reassessments#of their roles and positions during their respective crises/upheavals by now;#There is simply a distinct lack of interest in reassessing Elizabeth in a similar way and I think this needs to be acknowledged.#Speaking of which - there's also a persistent habit of analyzing her through the context of Margaret of Anjou or Elizabeth of York#(either as a parallel or a foil) rather than as a historical figure in HER OWN RIGHT#that's also too long to get into I just wanted to point it out because I hate it and I think it's utterly senseless#I've so much to say about how all of this affects her portrayal in historical fiction as well but that's going into a whole other tangent#ofc there are other things but these in particular *really* frustrate me#just felt like ranting a bit in the tags because these are all things that I want to individually discuss someday with proper posts...

so has anyone noticed Yukiko’s arc with Konohana Sakuya calling her out on her learned helplessness and learning how she has more power than she realized and how similar it is to Adachi’s own sense of not being in control that drives him nuts because I have and I wanna talk about it
Because Konohana Sakuya calls Yukiko out on her own helplessness, looking to others, “princes,” ways to run from her situation… when she’s trying to teach Yukiko that the only thing stopping her… is Yukiko. I mean her boss form proves that firmly. She’s a bird in a cage and closes and opens up the cage to attack.
Tumblr media
And right beforehand, she’s got a lot to say about Yukiko’s learned helplessness and the self-hatred Yukiko feels over it.
Tumblr media
She just points out hard how Yukiko doesn’t feel in control of her life and how just… no. No that’s not true, she can do something, the power’s in her hands.
And during her Social Link, Yukiko realizes that her resentment for the inn and perceived lack of power was born from her mistaken belief that her family’s love was conditional, when it wasn’t. Not at all.
Tumblr media
Speaking of looking away from small opportunities and convincing yourself you have to bear your problems alone because you’re worried that having a support network will take away your agency…
Wait.
Does this sound like a certain detective we know, or what?
Tumblr media
We know less about what Adachi’s childhood was like than we do about Yukiko’s (which is to say we know like… nothing other than implying his parents weren’t terribly affectionate in Rank 2, which is why the old lady confuses him and he avoids her).
Tumblr media
But what we do know is he keeps acting like everything is out of his control. He describes his mistake as being utterly insignificant when… he never describes it… which makes me think it’s much more important than he acts. (Knowing this guy he probably let something massive slip, but hell if he’ll tell us…) He says “and then they send me to the boonies” as if the reason he got sent wasn’t his own fault. Taking no blame in the events that got him here… when he was absolutely not blameless.
Tumblr media
I’ve stated this before, but I believe that Adachi saw the Midnight Channel Killings as a method of taking his life back from what he felt was out of his control—when considering he had Ame-no-Sagiri burst out of him, ironically made him lose more control—even lost his own body temporarily. Adachi is an utter control freak and any sense of him having no power causes him to panic, fly off the handle and strike out at anyone around him.
And it’s not like nobody reached out to him to make the support network Yukiko learned to cherish having. I have no idea if anybody did prior to Inaba, but the thing is, I know what happened in Inaba. Dojima reached out. That old woman reached out. Yu reached out. And Adachi threw it all away, never bothered with the support network he had that was trying to exist if only he’d let it… and part of him knows that, which is why his mind got occupied by the Dojimas while in jail, despite him refusing to see Dojima as he visited him in jail. He literally kept trying to burn bridges with Dojima when he failed the first time. And more importantly, his line right before Ame-no-Sagiri overtakes him.
Tumblr media
GEE, I WONDER WHY THAT IS, ADACHI :) (violent sarcasm)
The only time Adachi ever admitted he screwed up (right up until his parting letter) was insanely indirect via the second threat letter he sent. Because I’m 99% sure he only sent that because “Oh shit, Nanako’s the next target!!” And when he mentions being unable to clean up his own mess in the parting letter. That’s it.
Yukiko literally almost burns all her bridges too. Her earlier social links are actually about her starting to try and stake it out on her own, and even doing it behind their backs because she doesn’t quite trust them.
Tumblr media
Like Adachi, Yukiko initially believed that staying with the network she had would give her no control over her life, as Konohana Sakuya’s quote “Everything’s decided for me, from how I live to where I die! I’m sick of it!!”
But her family’s unconditional love and the support of her friends actually gave her the power and agency she desperately wanted—she could do whatever she wanted if only she realized it. Her friends and family love her no matter what.
Which is what makes this line so perfect—Yukiko, the one who almost burnt nearly her bridges because she believed she had no power, just like Adachi, is the one who says this.
Tumblr media
Of course Yukiko would be the one who tells him his ideas of hating the world but still not wanting to die to be nonsensical—Konohana Sakuya called her out on this shit eight months ago. “Having no hope if [you] stay but no courage to leave.” And in both the crow and the spider’s case, it would be better for them to stay. Because Yukiko has a support network no matter what and shouldn’t burn perfectly functioning bridges, and neither should Adachi, who doesn’t even realize there is someone out there who wants to be his support network—Dojima. Who literally brings him an ambulance to make sure he’s at least in a good physical state when in jail.
And Yukiko also didn’t realize how much her family loved her initially, and how important her friends were to her despite her closeness to Chie. But the difference is, Yukiko realized her support network was not only healthy, but necessary before she ever destroyed it. She realized their importance and that they weren’t at all as restraining as she’d believed.
Tumblr media
Adachi didn’t realize in time, and still didn’t realize it even after Dojima did him a favor when he was being jailed, since he refuses to see him when he visits.
