bq25185 + TPS61023 = USB or Solar lipoly with 5V output 🔋☀️🔌

We spent the weekend tweaking our bq25185

designs and made one basic breakout for this flexible battery charging chip. Then, we made a board with a 3.3V buck output to charge the battery with a USB or solar panel and got a clean and consistent 3.3V out. With both of those working, here's a design for a version that has a 5V booster with the TPS61023

, which gives a nice clean 1A with a small bill of materials. Now you can use USB, DC, or solar to charge your favorite lipoly or liion chip and get 5V output. Maybe we'll make a version that can handle 3.6V LiFePO4 batteries, too? It's easy to set the bq to handle those by changing a single resistor.

site specific installation for a solo exhibition at @songs_for_alice located on Spinnerei Leipzig, 11. jan. - 08. feb. 2025

The piece on the ceiling of the space shows a grotesque one-eyed face with a curly cable coming out of the cyclops' eye. The face is modeled from large amounts of common aluminum tin foil. The cable is plugged in a quadruple cable reel that represents an electric eye ball of the beast. On the other end of the wire is a big strobe light, pointing back at the ceiling. The device is placed down in a pit in the room. The pit is also filled with numerous coins, like a wishing well. In darkness or doors closed, the fast strobe light reflecting flashing on the blank metallic surfaces created an intense visual sensation, up to a small loss of orientation.

In the side room, which also contains remarkable original infrastructure of the former high voltage power supply station, a series of drawings is displayed on the main wall. The five aluminum-framed pencil drawings show alternative versions of the cyclops face in the main room. The drawings are highlighted with passe-partouts made of sanded aluminum sheets with oblique edges around its cut out.

Metro RP2350 is wrappin' up testing ✨🐢

This week we got our Metro RP2350 boards

back and after fixing the pin direction and rerouting

the whole thing, it came up and pretty much works perfectly! Just one component needed a swap - we were able to test all GPIO, analog inputs, MicroSD slot, PSRAM, LEDs & NeoPixel, user button, I2C/SPI/UART, aaand power supplies. The 5V supply is great, we got a nice clean 5V out at 2A+ from 12V DC in. The last thing to check is the HSTX port, which gives us DVI access, and it works, thanks to this festive turtle demo!

We're aiming to get this into the shop before the end of the year, wouldn't that be smashing?
