I've been doing a lot of research into building a computer recently (as some of you saw on my alt), and I'd just like to let you all know.

Please stay away from pre-built manufacturers like Build Redux, Digital Storm and iBuyPower! Not only can you get WAY better prices by buying and building on your own, but companies like Build Redux and iBuyPower are often delivering products with smashed glass, broken or malfunctioning components, and cheap parts that break and melt WAY too easily!

I made a little document to track parts and build my own, and not only was it cheaper, but these websites are making you pay for things like installing Windows! My first computer was made by iBuyPower, and they lied to me about some of the specs! I got an Intel i3 instead of i5, and a GeForce 710 instead of the 1060 their website listed.

Making a pc is hard, I get it, but these custom pc websites are too good to be true! Remember to do your research when shopping online! Even on sites like Amazon, find the seller and do a quick search on them to make sure that they and their product are reliable and legitimate!

If you want to buy a pre-built desktop computer, I'd recommend best buy or Amazon. Honestly, though, the best thing you can do is to either build your own, or ask a friend to build one for you. I'm willing to bet at least one person you know can you out if you need it!

god someone put that fanfic-to-pub post on twitter and the replies/quotes make me want to eat rat poison. it's 75% "you're just jealous and bitter" from rey/los and 25% the least self-aware people in the world going "no YOU'RE not normal, we are!!!"

see i would be absolutely mortified to publish some of what that machine churns out. if they put my name on it i'd change my name. would never leave my house. there is no amount of money in the world you could give me to do that. i low key think that subsection of tradpub is teaming up with booktok etc. to form some of the worst brain drain that exists in publishing, and the money involved is horrifying.

the commodification of fanfic goes against everything i like about fanfic, and most fanfic directly conflicts with what i want to get out of published fiction. these two streams run parallel to each other and only peripherally overlap in my mind; joining them for profit is genuinely gross. i think you can become a really amazing writer writing fanfic and then go on to write original stuff and publish that, but paywalling fanfic is not something people who actually value it (or any kind of literature, really) as a creative form would want to do.

Sorry for falling off the planet for second. My laptop died, so I've been struggling to communicate. Stepdad lent me one of his old work laptops until I get my new set-up. Shouldn't be too long until that happens, as we're finally closing in on the house sale. As soon as I get the money, I'm setting some aside to get a new PC.

I've been researching into what I'd like as I've not had a desktop in over a decade. But if anyone has any suggestions for prebuilt I could get for art/animation/editing/gaming, that would be appreciated.

So yeah, won't be super active until I get a new pc. Sorry.
