I think the most interesting thing comparing Nick Jr.’s two biggest “audience participation” shows (and two of its biggest shows, period) and realizing Blue’s Clues succeeded everywhere Dora the Explorer failed.
Blue’s Clues never talked down to the target audience and the hosts spoke to the kids like normal human beings. Dora always spoke to the audience in a VERY patronizing tone.
Blue’s Clues used repetition to teach new phrases, words, and concepts, but sprinkled them at various points each episode to help kids learn better. Dora would repeat the same thing at least three to four times in a row like some sort of chant because, I don’t know, the producers don’t have the highest view of kids’ intelligence.
Blue’s Clues was fun for everyone while still being educational for younger kids (even in the late ‘90s there was some Blue’s Clues merch aimed at older fans). Dora was...tiring for anyone over the age of three or four.
There’s probably more, but I’m typing this pretty early and I’m still sleep deprived, so feel free to add on more. But in general, I noticed Blue will always have more staying power over Dora.

incredibly specific grievance but if you went to high school in the us and took spanish, did anyone else have a teacher who insisted “it’s ok if you can’t roll your Rs, only about 20% of people in the world can”
cause that still makes me mad to this day lol. being able to roll your Rs isn’t a weird quirk of genetics like being able to curl your tongue, there’s a reason certain people can roll them (because they speak a language that uses that sound) and other people can’t (because they speak a language that doesn’t need it).
when you’re a baby you have the ability to make any sound a human mouth can make, but as you grow up and learn your native language(s) you focus on the sounds that are used in those language(s) and the rest of them fall out of practice. you could relearn them with practice. it’s not the kind of thing where you just shrug and go “ah well, it’s impossible bc i’m not one of the 20%”

Enhancing Cultural Awareness with Spanish Immersion
Tumblr media
In today's fast-paced world, various cultures are more interconnected than ever before. Understanding these diverse cultures is crucial for thriving in modern society. As people from around the globe interact daily, we must appreciate different cultures and build relationships while promoting cultural understanding.
One effective way to foster cultural understanding is by learning a new language. Learning a new language means delving into a new culture, including the people who speak it, their history, traditions, and their unique worldview.
This article explores how Spanish immersion programs benefit young learners in developing cultural understanding and emphasizes the importance of this understanding, as it cultivates open-mindedness and empathy.
How Spanish Immersion Programs Promote Cultural Competence
Exposure to Spanish Language and Culture: In Spanish immersion programs, children are immersed in the Spanish language and culture throughout their school day. They engage with Spanish songs, poems, books, and games. Additionally, they learn about Spanish culture through stories, videos, and celebrations.
Lessons on Spanish-speaking Countries and Cultures: These programs provide insights into Spanish-speaking countries and their diverse cultures. Children gain knowledge about the history, geography, and traditions of these countries, as well as an understanding of various customs.
Interaction with Native Spanish Speakers: Spanish immersion programs offer opportunities for children to interact with native Spanish speakers. They can communicate with Spanish-speaking teachers, staff, and volunteers. They also participate in cultural events and activities with native Spanish speakers.
The Importance of Understanding Diverse Cultures
Understanding diverse cultures carries several significant benefits:
Building Relationships: It enables children to form connections with people from different backgrounds.
Gaining New Perspectives: It helps individuals see the world from various angles and enhances tolerance and acceptance.
Global Problem Solving: In an increasingly interconnected world, cultural understanding is essential for collaboration and addressing global challenges.
How Spanish Immersion Programs Foster Cultural Understanding
Developing a Sense of Global Citizenship: Learning about different cultures encourages children to become more open-minded and accepting, fostering a sense of global citizenship and shared responsibility.
Developing Empathy and Compassion: Exposure to others' life experiences helps children develop empathy and compassion. They gain insights into different perspectives and the challenges others face.
Enhancing Critical Thinking Skills: Exploring different cultures encourages critical thinking. Children in Spanish immersion programs are asked to compare and contrast Spanish and American culture, which improves their critical thinking skills.
Studies Highlighting the Bridging of Cultural Gaps Through Language Learning
Research supports the idea that language learning can bridge cultural gaps:
A 2014 study from the University of Chicago found that students learning a second language developed positive attitudes towards people from other cultures and could interact effectively with them.
A 2016 study at the University of California, Berkeley showed that students learning a second language displayed increased empathy towards people from diverse cultures and better understanding of their perspectives.
A 2018 study from the University of Oxford found that students learning a second language exhibited greater open-mindedness and tolerance towards people from other cultures, and a willingness to learn about those cultures.
These studies provide evidence that language learning not only opens doors to new cultures but also nurtures understanding and acceptance of diverse perspectives.
Conclusion
Spanish immersion programs offered by LIPP Schools play a pivotal role in promoting cultural competence among young learners. Through exposure to the Spanish language and culture, lessons on Spanish-speaking countries, and interaction with native Spanish speakers, children gain valuable insights. Developing cultural competence is a vital skill for children to navigate today's globalized world effectively.

Retrieving files from a macbook so old that it cant read my external drive. And i wanted to save all the music, so thats at least 1000 audio files. All which i transferred via thumbdrive bc thats the only thing that worked.
The internet basically doesnt function, the drive didnt read, and really the only other option is the Migration feature but i couldn’t even try that because we cannot remember the password for the life of us. (Its my moms computer, to boot, so its not even a password I’d know)
So. I ferried those files four. Times. Because the thumbdrive didnt have nearly enough space for one go. But I succeeded
And now i have so much music on my laptop!!! A good chunk is childrens music, especially since mom taught elementary. And theres a decent amount of english music, including my taylor swift cd that i ripped ages ago.
But the real gold mine here es la musica español! Which makes up most of the music. And its my mom’s favorite music and probably from her cd library and i could not be more thrilled.
Im so fuckn excited to listen to it all >:3

Adorable Russian 2D cartoon about a girl who is hybrid of monkey and hare and discovers herself during hardships of some bullying even, supported by her loving family and dear friends.
So far, there are around ~26 episodes produced (including double-lenght - 10 minutes - special New Year/Christmas - episode). It is dubbed, too, into Mandarin Chinese, English and Latin American Spanish. BTW, Spanish dub is made by Estudios Backstage in Venezuela, a nice team who also helped with Filly Funtasia and many others.
Most dubs - including songs - are available on YouTube for free - this means Chinese and Spanish. CUTE. English didn't premiere yet so far, I think, but it's coming. ^_~
