Alright, now for something completely different. Today is National Handwriting Day! So we thought it'd be fun to do a classic handwriting meme, you know - the style where the meme asks a series of questions and you're supposed to answer them by hand-writing the replies.

I SAW THE RECENT ASK AND I'M LIKE,, what if reader never mentions about the letters/notes but keeps them... Pantalone thinks you don't like them and he finds it a bit sad :((( so one day he leaves a note and he's outside watching what you'd do... N he sees that u DO read it but with a huge frown and furrowed brows, then keep it somewhere safe.... N he brings it up bc he don't like giving u stuff that you don't like.. Only to find out you're soooo embarrassed to bring it up bc you can't read it since his curvise is so intricate... 😭😭😭 but yk it's out of love so u keep them close to ur heart!!!

NOOO I LOVE THIS SM 😭😭❤️ awww this is so cute and silly... reader trying their best to decipher his cursive but failing, yet still they treasure this letter from him of course!! You may not know what he's saying but you do know that it's probably lots of stuff relating to how much he loves you <3 But like,, not only do you not speak about his little love letters, but when he randomly asks you about something he mentioned in his letters, you don't know what he's talking about?? So now Pantalone thinks you're not reading his notes :(( Did he do something to upset you? Are you mad? But no, that can't be the reason because you're still showering him with lots of kisses and hugs like normal! Of course, being the inquisitive man he is, he's going to get to the bottom of this! And when he sees you, squinting real hard at his lil note for literal minutes before tucking it away safely he's just confused now? So he just comes flat out and asks you in the middle of dinner and you nearly choke because damn you weren't ready to expose yourself like that yet 😓 But oh. When you finally come clean that you can't read his intricate cursive, he laughs. Pantalone laughs so hard because you are so, so, cute.

I imagine he forces you to take out the box where you keep all his letters, and you sit on his lap while he makes you read his sentences out loud, at least, what you can understand - "My beloved [Name], today i, um... something something something, i bought you- er, yeah i don't know what that says-" Pantalone is trying not to laugh behind you and you just want to punch him because this is NOT funny!! You're struggling out here!! He ends up reading all of them to you and showing you how to read his cursive better 🥺 i cant who allowed him to be so sweet

I've talked about this before but I really think the public education system in north america is falling with fine motor skills

Like I really think we should teach kids cursive writing or even basic calligraphy because I see so many kids well into high school with no grasp of pressure or fine pencil/brush skills. It didn't used to be this way and I don't think you need corporal punishment or whatever ghastly things they did back the 1950s to achieve those skills in our classrooms again..

the other day i imagined the kinds of postcards nix and dick send each other after after. if they fell in love during the war and never pursued it stateside (yk, true to life etc). dick never takes the job. lew never tries to force him. they marry who they marry but send each other postcards.

dick's are all from pennsylvania, if only to show lew existing buildings and street corners, 'this isn't hicksville, lewis.' sometimes dick gets a hold of postcards of places he'd like to visit and send them to lew. lew tells himself it's only out of curiosity, the need to be out in the world when he buys himself tickets those same beaches, mountains, and quaint little towns from dick's wish-i-was-there postcards. lew sends dick a different one of different views, an i-wish-you-were here from the same places. dick keeps them in an album beside the fading photograph of him and nix in their pinks and greens. when nix has had too much to drink, his handwriting loops together furious ts and js the same way dick writes in cursive on the back of landscapes.

at some point lew tells dick that he's terrible at correspondence. dick says he knows this, he has always known this. but he doesn't tell lew they've been sending postcards to each other at least once a month. because dick wishes he wasn't counting and lew's busy doing the same. lew sends two postcards from the same place to make up for it. dick's album runs out of space so he buys another.

lew keeps dick's postcards in different coat and touser pockets. he knows he likes finding dick everywhere even in the insides of his dinner jackets. the closest thing he has now, a measly substitute he knows, to falling into step behind his best friend. dick's postcards are folded and refolded, dog-eared and thumbed down. they fall out when lew fishes out his flask from the same pockets. once lewis almost abandons the latter altogether, when the postcard, mountains of austria, was caught by an errant breeze. on the back dick wrote that one of the cows had given birth, and that he had celebrated by having not one, but two (can you believe it, lew?), cups of ice cream. lew caught the thick rectangular thing in time, all new beginnings and old habits he wished he could witness. his flask now dented forever.

they never say, 'i love you.' but at some point they stop writing, 'your friend,' and instead sign off to say, 'yours,'

'always' is left unsaid but they never stop sending each other postcards. 'yours, lewis nixon' 'yours, dick winters'
