So we all know by now that Dazai is comfortable enough around Chuuya to show nervousness/worry.
Tumblr media
Enough times for Chuuya to pick up on that pattern. The pattern, may I remind you, that doesn't have evident correlation to either nervousness or worry to most people. One that can even be interpreted as misplaced given the situation.
Which means that Dazai has done this in front of Chuuya so often, that Chuuya at first was hella confused, before he finally made a connection between when and why it happens. And still remembered that connection after four years of separation. Which gets us to my point:
What if this isn't the only emotion Dazai displays weirdly?
What if he has multiple unconventional patterns he displays for sadness, frustration, content, or disgust? The times he really feels them, and they become too strong for him to just deal with normally? What if these are the only times he's actually being genuine with his emotions?
And Chuuya is the only one who is familiar with them all?
Dazai would be jumping rope and Chuuya would be like, "quit sulking, let's get icecream"
Dazai hanging upside down on the couch and Chuuya going, "It's okay, mackerel. You can cry."
Dazai actually crying, full on heart-wrenching sobs, and Chuuya unironically going, "What, good news?"
It's just... comforting, for one person in Dazai's life to read him like a book. Everyone else would look at him like he's crazy, displaying wrong emotions/behaviors at the wrong time, but Chuuya knows that it's just how he processes feeling properly, and thus he's the only one Dazai can count on to put things into context and understand, which makes him display them even more openly.
Because Chuuya never shamed him for his quirks, as much as Dazai never did his.

OUGUHH I'VE READ 'THE PILLOWMAN' 😭😭😭😭 It was absolutely brilliant and I'm already drawing about it lmao. Katurian K. Katurian I love you aaaaaaaa. It is horrifically tragic but also funny, thought provoking and Kafkaesque. It's also a very short and easy read. Here it is if you want to read it too!! The next time I'm in London I'm breaking into the National Theatre Archive to watch the original production with David as Katurian just look at him!!

By the way, Will is explicitly written not only as a gay character who is in love with his best friend, but also as a character who grew up believing that he’d never fall in love. He’s someone who still believes that he doesn’t deserve to be loved, because he feels like his feelings are a mistake. This isn’t the type of character arc that will end with him watching the only person he has ever expressed interest in, the boy he’s in love with, be with with someone else. That wouldn’t be satisfying for viewers, wouldn’t make sense for Will as a character, and it would be needlessly cruel. In a story focused on demonstrating why society’s outsiders deserve love and acceptance, he’s going to find just that. It’s the only end for him that fits with his arc and the show’s narrative themes. To have it end otherwise is terrible writing.

My other fun addition to the Hbomberguy video stuff is not just that you need to start checking everyone's sources just to make sure you aren't being duped, but to not use them as a stand in for media consumption/experiences either. Like I'm not gonna lecture you on reading sources cause I am the first one to not and that's my laziness, but like sometimes more important than checking the original analysis of something is just to... see tge thing being analyzed yourself. That's not even about misinformation or lying, sometimes people's opinions just SUCK ASS.
Like there are youtube video essayists I overall kinda respect but they have dogshit opinions on things. I used to love Jack Saint's bad faith overly critical analyses of throwaway kids films, until I realized he also saw films that in my opinion had a lot of merit, and it turned me off from him. Big Joel is cool as hell, but anytime he gives his opinion on animation save like a few points, I completely glaze over and find him annoying. The other day I watched a video essay about the "Magical Negro" trope, and the first movie sourced interested me, so I watched it and I hardly understand why they put that in, it framed the movie as something it wasn't.
Just in general, it's good practice to make sure your opinions on media are your own and experience it yourself. MY biggest takeaway from the Hbomn video wasn't to throw rocks at Somerton or start obsessively fact-checking every essayist I watch, but to make sure I have a baseline of what they talking about myself and not letting anyone throw around media examples without reckless abandon. The Celluloid Closet and Tinkerbelles and Evil Queens is on my watxh/read list now, but the first thing I did from the words he stole from Celluoid Closet was watch Rebels Without A Cause out of curiosity of this gay subtext in a 50s blockbuster. And it was a super interesting experience that has given me my own unrelated opinions. Not to discount whatever important queer reading and historical importance the film has, but I'm happy I also have more than just that cause I Watched It Myself, not someone's specific and unavoidably biased reading of it.
The video isn't about cultivating suspicion but cultivating appreciation for the skills of analytical/informative/opinion writing. So even when people aren't being lying grifters, it's just good to be your own critic and media analyst. Maybe you'll even contribute to that world yourself, or maybe you'll keep all your cool opinions in your heart and die, who cares. The point is that unlike some people, your opinions and words are your own. It's a beautiful thing to have your own creative voice.

i love seeing more people talk about mizisua not being as healthy as people make it out to be, because their relationship is partly based in deception. and i just find it fascinating to think about the fact that sua, in lying & hiding the truth of the world from mizi and sacrificing herself for her to keep going in alnst, makes it so that mizi doesn't even get a chance to consider sacrificing herself for sua in turn. which i personally think might've been something mizi would have considered if she'd known. sua, by keeping the reality of alien stage from a sheltered mizi, (sort of) basically takes away her autonomy in that decision.
that isn't sua's intention of course, but it ends up that way anyway. sua trying desperately to keep mizi happy and innocent ends up hurting her more than helping in the long run, and i think sua knew that, but she wanted her to at least have happy memories of growing up and of being with sua. unfortunately those memories are stained now, stained by the truth and the omission and the fact that sua knew but mizi didn't, but now she does. it's heartbreaking. it really lays the groundwork for the 'selfishness and selflessness go hand in hand' theme in alnst.
and mizi, afterward? "hatred is easier than a word as vague as love" makes a lot of sense when you consider that mizi's rage at luka could've been pointed at sua as well, or even completely. not that she doesn't still love her with everything in her, but she is still able to feel anger at her for lying and turning her world upside down with her death. those feelings can exist simultaneously (another theme in alnst visible through every couple).

way back in like. march?? I took a stab at writing some kind of kabitserye type of story but it was a mess: it kept veering off into murder mystery drama territory because I was reading a lot of murder mystery novels around then and it Wasn't Good because I hadn't tried writing mysteries, let alone murder mysteries, before lmao
I did write a handful of short mystery stories since then, so next year I might take a stab at this idea again now that I'm no longer jumping head first into a genre pool I don't know how to swim in :)
#now for the part where i have to fight off the impulse to write in some b movie horror elements because ive been thinking about#reanimator a lot lately. ehghghh. thank god for the editing process. to wrangle my thoughts into a linear state of creating#anyway i read an article. interview? on the popularity of infidelity dramas in the philippines and it was poetry to me#and i also enjoy the really intense social melodrama in lino brocka's films. specifically the appearance of morality to cover up/justify#ugly behavior. or like. man i'm tired. whatever was going on in murder by tsismis. that's the thing. someday i'll get more into it#and post excerpts from the actual analysis of the film that actually explains the dynamic im talking around here#komiks tag#original tag#also there's some. vague lingering thought about ikaw lamang in here. not in a way that matters#but in a 'the first episode that i saw was not the first episode of the drama itself and it made me go. oh everyone has rotten vibes'#which is not. well. if you saw ikaw lamang then you know the characters. this is not the takeaway from the show. HOWEVER#i did invent a whole different show in my head between that and when the next episode aired. so.#fake ikaw lamang. ikaw lamang if it wasn't even remotely like ikaw lamang. on the topic of ikaw lamang here's a cringe story for you#still following along. BEFORE i had watched the show. i saw a notebook with franco on it but i didn't recognize the character#i just saw jake in a suit and went oh! cool! i will now Buy This!#anyway i still have the notebook lmao

I have two notes about common Xianxia lore for folks who (like me) came to read Scum Villain’s Self Saving System after reading Modao Zushi or watching one of its adaptations.
1: Core Formation is (usually) a Middle to Late Stage of Cultivation
MDZS simplifies things and puts all its emphasis on golden cores for obvious reasons (*cough*the-core-transfer*cough*), but in most Xianxia works a golden core is not something obtained early on in the cultivation process.
The four most common cultivation stages, in order, are:
Qi Refining (练气)
Foundation Establishment (筑基)
Core Formation (结丹)
Nascent Soul (元婴)
Now a lot of Xianxia novels do add on to these¹, which can shift core formation earlier or later in the cultivation journey, but these four are rarely omitted.
While SVSSS doesn’t give us all the details, we can be fairly confident PIDW hasn’t paired down cultivation just to golden cores for a few reasons:
First, Shen Yuan complains about Airplane confusing ‘Foundation Establishment’ and ‘Nascent Soul’:
What kind of cultivation world had an author who occasionally mixed up even the stages of Foundation Establishment and Nascent Soul?
SVSSS Volume 1, Chapter 1
This would be a very strange complaint if neither ‘Foundation Establishment’ nor ‘Nascent Soul’ were cultivation stages included in PIDW.
Second, we know Shen Qingqiu didn't reach core formation until after he became a peak lord and accepted Binghe onto his peak.
Luo Binghe was using the incorrect cultivation manual that Shen Qingqiu had handed him; he should have long since died bleeding from the seven apertures, his body rupturing down to his bones, skin, meridians, tendons, and flesh. But not only had this failed to come to pass, Luo Binghe’s cultivation was steadily improving.
Furthermore, Shen Qingqiu had told Ning Yingying thousands of times to stay far away from Luo Binghe and that she wasn’t allowed to get involved with him. So why did he see them every day, whispering together before his eyes?
Shen Qingqiu was filled with paranoia; he forever felt like everyone was secretly talking behind his back, discussing how he’d been unable to attain Core Formation even after this long. That it was unbecoming for one in his position. That they hoped to secretly finish him off and replace him.
SVSSS Volume 4, Chapter 24, Part 5
Putting Shen Qingqiu's paranoia aside, there is no way he would have been named Qing Jing's succeeding disciple without a golden core if the PIDW world operated like the one in MDZS.
‘Foundation Establishment’ is on the weaker end for the various sect leaders and peak lords I've read about in Xianxia works, but far from impossible.
(The most common stage for sect leaders and peak lords —in works without post-Nascent Soul additions— seems to be ‘Core Formation.’ Those in the ‘Nascent Soul’ stage seem to spend most of their time in seclusion, which is probably why they don’t usually have roles in sect management).
2: Demonic Qi is NOT Resentment
With both in-universe detractors and the 7seas translation calling Wei Wuxian’s resentment manipulation ‘demonic,’ it is understandable that many people mistake ‘Demonic Qi’ and ‘Resentment’ as the same thing. They are not.
Based on the works I’ve read, ‘Demonic Qi’ is essentially a different flavor or ‘polarity’ of ‘Spiritual Qi’. It’s not the same as spiritual qi, but it’s the same kind of energy, just twisted or tainted in some manner, and often favoring yin over yang.
(It may help to think of them as similar to the 'Light Side' and the ‘Dark Side’ of the Force. No matter how diametrically opposed the philosophies and the techniques of their users, they are still both ‘the Force’).
Precisely how different ‘demonic’ and ‘spiritual’ qi are from one another, and how easy it is to distinguish between them, depends on the particular Xianxia work you are reading. In some the difference is really obvious, while in others you may need a higher cultivation level, a special technique, or a spiritual tool to tell. In many works ‘demonic’ vs ‘spiritual’ seems more like a gradient than a strict ‘either or’.
In SVSSS, the difference between demonic qi and spiritual qi is more on the obvious end, with traces of demonic qi detectible by basic talismans, and demonic qi itself often described as ‘black’ or ‘purple-black’, compared to spiritual qi which is most often described as ‘white’.
With that in mind, it should be noted Yue Qingyuan’s spiritual qi actually takes a temporary shift towards the demonic at one point, presumably due to his heart demons:
He’d barely done so when, next to him, Mu Qingfang anxiously said, “Zhangmen-shixiong, you were in secluded cultivation and forcefully interrupted your training, then faced these strong foes. It was already terribly hard on you. By pushing yourself to draw your sword now, I’m afraid your body will really…”
A burst of black qi rose from Yue Qingyuan’s face, but he forced it back down. “Even if I can’t, I must,” he said in a strained voice. “Shidi has already died once, and at that moment, I was unable to protect him. How can I watch him go to his death a second time?
SVSSS Volume 2, Chapter 13
Unless I'm misunderstanding something, this really is a matter of heart demons tainting his qi, not him suddenly generating or gathering resentment.
Now Resentment is a form of energy that belongs exclusively to the dead. Unlike spiritual and demonic qi, it doesn’t appear to have any use in progressing through the typical ‘stages’ of cultivation.¹
(Even in works that include ghosts who are able to cultivate, I’ve yet to see mention of them cultivating directly with resentment, despite being empowered by it).
To be clear, this doesn’t mean demons and demonic cultivators can’t use resentment² (demons and demonic cultivators are notorious for gaining power by any means necessary, and with how often demonic cultivators kill people horribly resentment is a prevalent resource), it just means that demonic qi and resentment are different from one another.
If anyone with more knowledge on the subject finds fault with my explanations, please let me know! Since I do read translations, and I certainly haven’t read every Xianxia work in existence, there is always the possibility I’ve developed misunderstandings of my own.
1.1: Just for fun, here are some examples of additional cultivation stages I’ve seen:
‘Qi Gathering’ before ‘Qi Refining’
‘Qi Condensation’ between ‘Qi Refining’ and ‘Foundation Establishment’
‘Core Formation’ as a separate step before ‘Golden Core’
So many different additions after ‘Nascent Soul’ 😵‍💫 (said additions often make Nascent Soul the midpoint in that particular setting)
If anyone wants a specific example of a more extended set of cultivation stages, here are the nine stages from “Devil Venerable Also Wants to Know”:
Qi Gathering
Qi Refining
Foundation Establishment
Core Formation
Nascent Soul
Deity Transformation
Body Unity
Void Boundary
Mahayana
2.1: In works where ghosts can cultivate, human ghosts seem to form golden cores (金丹 jīndān) same as living humans, not ‘resentful’ cores.
The only alternative core types I’ve seen mentioned (in works that actually do have different core varieties) are demon cores (魔核 móhé) and yao cores (妖核 yāohé).
2.2: If you want to read a work with ‘demons’ that do use resentment, I recommend the Wuxia novel “Dinghai Fusheng Records.”
In said novel, the Spiritual Qi of the Heavens and Earth disappeared three hundred years ago, so the ‘Devil God’ and his followers have adapted to use resentment instead.

Exploring the Benefits of Cloud Services
Cloud services, also known as cloud computing, refer to the delivery of computing services over the internet. This includes storage, servers, databases, software, and more. Instead of storing and accessing data and programs on a local computer or server, cloud services allow users to access them remotely through the internet.
Types of Cloud Services
There are three main types of cloud services: Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS).
IaaS provides users with access to virtualized computing resources, such as servers, storage, and networking, over the internet. PaaS offers a platform for developers to build and manage applications without having to worry about the underlying infrastructure. SaaS provides users with access to software applications over the internet, eliminating the need for installation and maintenance on local devices.
The Benefits of Cloud Services
Cost Savings
One of the most significant benefits of cloud services is cost savings. By using cloud services, businesses can avoid the upfront costs of purchasing and maintaining hardware and software. Instead, they can pay for the services they need on a subscription basis, reducing the overall cost of ownership.
Additionally, cloud services eliminate the need for businesses to invest in expensive IT infrastructure and personnel. This allows businesses to focus their resources on other areas of their operations, such as product development and marketing.
Scalability and Flexibility
Cloud services offer businesses the ability to scale their resources up or down as needed. This means that businesses can quickly adapt to changes in demand without having to invest in additional hardware or software. This scalability also allows businesses to test new ideas and products without the risk of significant financial investment.
Cloud services also offer flexibility in terms of access. With cloud services, employees can access data and applications from anywhere with an internet connection, making remote work and collaboration more accessible.
Improved Security
Many businesses are concerned about the security of their data when using cloud services. However, cloud service providers often have more robust security measures in place than individual businesses. This includes encryption, firewalls, and regular backups to protect against data loss.
Additionally, cloud services offer businesses the ability to quickly recover from disasters or cyber attacks. With data stored in the cloud, businesses can easily restore their systems and continue operations without significant downtime.
Increased Efficiency
Cloud services can significantly improve the efficiency of business operations. With data and applications stored in the cloud, employees can access them quickly and easily, reducing the time spent on administrative tasks.
Cloud services also offer businesses the ability to automate processes, such as data backups and software updates, freeing up employees to focus on more critical tasks.
Collaboration and Communication
Cloud services also facilitate collaboration and communication within businesses. With data and applications stored in the cloud, employees can easily share and work on documents and projects in real-time, regardless of their location.
Cloud services also offer businesses the ability to integrate various communication tools, such as video conferencing and instant messaging, into their operations. This allows for more efficient and effective communication between employees, regardless of their physical location.
Choosing a Cloud Services Provider
When it comes to choosing a cloud services provider, there are a few key factors to consider.
Reliability and Uptime
One of the most critical factors to consider is the reliability and uptime of the cloud services provider. Downtime can be costly for businesses, so it's essential to choose a provider with a proven track record of high uptime.
Security Measures
As mentioned earlier, security is a top concern for businesses when it comes to cloud services. It's crucial to choose a provider with robust security measures in place to protect your data and systems.
Scalability and Flexibility
When choosing a cloud services provider, it's essential to consider their scalability and flexibility. You want a provider that can meet your current needs but also has the ability to scale with your business as it grows.
Cost
While cost shouldn't be the only factor in your decision, it's essential to consider the pricing structure of different cloud services providers. Some providers may offer more cost-effective options for your business, while others may offer more advanced features at a higher cost. Visit more information for your website

one of the things that I found particularly interesting in Demigods of Olympus is that it finally gives the best direct comparison we've seen so far between Percy and another character's experiences in terms of academics and particularly ableist discrimination.
Tumblr media
The way Zane describes his experiences and what we see in his POV is that, while he is similarly discriminated against for his "atypical" behavior and blame is placed on him, the only sorts of punishments he receives for this are relatively benign, such as an increase in counseling. (It is also notable that Zane is somewhat autistic-coded, such as having the "incorrect" scripts when speaking with adults and Sam explicitly reminding him to remember to make proper eye contact.) Percy, on the other hand, similarly experiences discrimination for "atypical" behavior, but whereas Zane is treated as "too smart for his own good" and given slaps on the wrist, Percy is automatically labeled as aggressive, destructive, and a trouble-maker based on preconceived assumptions about him and is more severely punished, such as being frequently expelled.
We rarely get this level of direct comparison between Percy's experiences and that of another character, particularly such similar experiences, so looking at the differences is really interesting to gauge what their different experiences with ableist discrimination is like - and how it could potentially tie into intersectionality and other forms of discrimination at play for them.
For instance, Zane's parents are generally heavily implied to be middle-class and/or generally financially secure, versus Percy who grew up poor, so it could be classism in combination with ableist discrimination. Alternatively, it could be intersectionality with racial discrimination, as neurodivergent behavior in people of color is significantly more likely to be punished more severely and labeled as aggressive or disruptive behavior due to racist preconceptions - particularly since we know Percy's experiences with ableist discrimination are also somewhat based on assumptions people make regarding his appearance. Both Zane and Percy are racially ambiguous - Zane's appearance essentially being completely unspecified, but Percy at least having some notable details such as having a deep tan complexion. If not racism, it could also be colorism, which in this context often has similar intersectionality. There's a lot of potential options.
It's just very interesting to me! I love having such a direct point of comparison to examine the experiences of two characters within.

EVERY REASON (that i can think of) AS TO WHY TURBO/KING CANDY IS NEURODIVERGENT 💥💥
Tumblr media
i would like to make a disclaimer first and foremost about the obvious, being that Turbo/King Candy is heavily implied to have narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) and antisocial personality disorder (ASPD). Very often, characters with these disorders are portrayed as villains, and Turbo is no exception to this. There's nothing wrong with antagonistic characters having said disorders, per se, but when the only representation available for people with these conditions are found in characters you're not supposed to root for, it can be really disheartening. i won't be erasing these parts of him because i feel it would be in poor taste to gloss over those core elements of who he is, but plz keep in mind that having any kind of personality disorder doesn't make anyone inherently evil!!!🌞 your ACTIONS make you, not your brain
Tumblr media
Also if anyone has any suggestions or other ideas for his neurodiversity, i would love to hear them! please do share!! I LOVE PSYCHOANALYZING CHARACTERS AND HEARING OTHER PEOPLE PSYCHOANALYZE THEM !!!! YAY🎉 if u agree or disagree with any of my points I'd love to discuss them further :-]
Tumblr media
without further ado... click read more to find out…😈 be ready for a lot of reaches
Tumblr media
💥 ADHD 💥
STIMMING
Turbo's constantly moving around in some way; he's a very expressive character! even as King Candy, he can't seem to conceal his frequent giggling. it's a big habit of his; he seems to do it involuntarily to regulate himself, including when he's nervous or uncomfortable.
he seems to display other repetitive behaviors as well, like doing his iconic thumbs-up pose, sticking out his tongue, or hopping around gleefully. he is but a jovial court jester..
i personally like to think that his phrases, "Turbo-tastic!" and "Have some candy!" are vocal stims of his, although i equally really love the interpretation that these (and the aforementioned stims) are tics :-]
another headcanon; i think it would make a lot of sense for him to have an oral fixation of some sort (ignoring the whole sigmund freud part of the term ermm...); just lots of biting, chewing, needing to have something in his mouth. It would align with the whole idea that he smokes, too
HYPERACTIVITY
we can clearly see throughout the film that Turbo has a lot of energy, made abundantly clear by his mannerisms and general behavior. he's constantly moving, using exaggerated expressions and gestures to communicate + express himself. He's one of the most animated and bouncy characters in the movie, next to Vanellope! it's silly how a character not very grounded in reality is such a threat, but i suppose that's what makes him so threatening in the first place...
another factor in this is how he is very adrenaline-seeking, craving activities that give him a rush (sugar rush...😂😂). more on that in a bit!!
HYPERFIXATION
Turbo's fixation with winning is all-consuming for him; it's an obsession. he doesn't appear to care about much else, if anything besides it. this could be interpreted as a hyperfixation for him (or special interest if ur all about that autism lifestyle), as it overtakes all of his focus and impedes every process of his mind.
it's clear that racing is much more than a passion for him, and while that fact is due to how he was programmed, it's a major character trait of his regardless that could be correlated to neurodivergence.
HYPERFOCUS
There seems to be a big theme of "all or nothing" when it comes to Turbo. he will either be fully dedicated to something or brush it aside without a second thought. it can't be denied that he fully wraps himself up in what he wants, whether it's a conflict he can't let go of or a new pursuit he's hungrily chasing after.
ultimately, his dedication varies depending on if it is relevant to him and his interests or not, but this aspect of him still shares patterns with neurodivergent thought processes.
INSTANT GRATIFICATION
Seeing as he has a tendency to cheat in his use of code to spawn in whatever his heart desires, it can be assumed that this could do with Turbo wanting instant gratification to fill that bitter, empty void inside of him. while this could simply be brushed aside as greed and his belief that he is obligated to have access to whatever he wants, this trait is consistent with his generally dopamine-seeking behavior and wanting to be instantly rewarded by his actions. His obsession with needing to feel good directly relates to his need for another buzz, constantly after the next rush. (a sugar rush if you will☺☺☺)
ADRENALINE-SEEKING
Closely related to the previous speculation, Turbo always seems to be chasing his next high. he loves the thrill of action and being surrounded by crowds of people below him. it's why his big thing is racing! people cheer him on, he can do whatever he wants, he can go really fast and look cool..
it's possible that a big aspect of why he does this is to distract himself from any kind of pain, because pain = vulnerability. bro does NOT know how to independently cope with his own problems.. HE MAD AS HELLLLL!!! 😂😂
STRUGGLE WITH SELF CARE
(i know this is reaching but bear with me... 🐻) going off of his appearance and tendency to make poor decisions, it can be gathered that this man lacks skill in the self care department. his yellowing teeth and sunken eyes not only serve to complement his design, but also give way to the idea that he neglects himself in favor for whatever weird scheme he's up to.
of course, Turbo does prioritize himself above everyone else, but he doesn't strike me as the type to care much about how others think he smells. him being a bother to anyone isn't a concern of his. he cares about whatever gets him the most praise and attention from as many people as possible, which is winning and racing. Who cares about how clean he is when he's up on a podium holding a shiny, golden trophy, anyway?
It's likely that he had to step his game up when he went under disguise as king candy, which is why he looks well-groomed in comparison to his more corpse-like appearance. Ugly hoe. it can also be assumed that he's had more time to focus on himself because everyone loves him without question... Well, except for Vanellope, but who cares about her, right?
also, i know he makes a condescending comment to Ralph about how bad his breath smells, but it's made abundantly clear that Turbo is a massive hypocrite. his comment doesn't erase the possibility that he has suffered from such "halitosis" as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
💥 ANXIETY 💥
GENERAL ANXIOUS BEHAVIOR
i know, i know, this could technically be chalked up to be "Turbo is nervously giggling and shit because he's scared of getting caught," but guys. g
even in the flashback scene, we can see how easily stressed he can become in an alarmingly short period of time. he is extremely insecure, therefore i am led to believe he is not only emotionally dysregulated, but also by extension, anxiety ridden.
yes, this is purely speculative, but who's to say that he wasn't like this before? being high-strung and intense are significant facets of his personality consistently portrayed throughout the film. as long as he is getting exactly what he wants, he is happy; the moment he loses even a blip of control, however, he immediately grows extremely tense.
if Turbo wasn't anxious about his disguise as King Candy before, he was anxious about how much attention he was receiving on a given day. if not that, then he'd be anxious over how he presents himself. He hates how he can't control how other people perceive him, which is why he is constantly trying to act like he's better than he is.
its why he justifies his behavior to himself, proudly making others refer to him as the "rightful ruler" of sugar rush and relishing in the attention of his countless underlings. Any secure and stable person would NOT ACT LIKE THIS!!!!😭😭😭
FIGHT OR FLIGHT
As we can see a handful of times on screen, Turbo's instinct to protect himself is very easily activated.
his fear manifests in anger and aggression. we can see at multiple points how easy it is to upset him or fluster him; his anger is one side of the same coin, the opposite end being his fear and paranoia.
Going off of this point, have you noticed that Turbo is either satisfied or furious without much of an in-between? how the second something isn't under his manipulation, he lashes out and fights back? I'm led to believe that this is how he responds to fear (AAUAAYAUUUUGGHHH 🐡🐡🐡🐡🐡🐡🐡). This guy is so against the idea of being vulnerable, that even when afraid, he will utilize violence to regain his dominance over the situation at hand.
CONTROL + PARANOIA
Turbo's always trying to writhe or fight his way out of uncomfortable situations, unable to exist outside of his comfort zone for seconds at a time.
his defensive, paranoid, and controlling behavior are all reflections of how deeply insecure this man is. He feels such an intense need for everything to go exactly how he expects it to go that the moment he senses any kind of threat, he instantly jumps to defend himself and what he feels that he has "earned," regardless of whether there truly is a threat or not.
this could potentially be a coping mechanism for his anxiety and sense of stability; can't forget to mention how territorial he is!! he jumps to conclusions about what others' intentions are before they even get a chance to reply, as seen with his first encounter with Ralph in the movie.
the racer is so internally discombobulated that he seeks any sense of stability on his environment, including on those around him. his sense of self is so warped that he copes with constant distraction; being under the spotlight, being actively racing, having to be showered with attention, having others make him feel good because he doesn't know how to do it for himself. he needs to feel like everything is under control, lest everything falls apart.
"...if there's ONE thing I can't abide, it's ANYTHING out of order!"

INFLATED SENSE OF SELF IMPORTANCE
Turbo's most in-your-face trait above all else. It's made more than crystal clear in every scene he's in that his arrogance is a determining factor in how he interacts with others. This is exactly what drives him to desperately crave admiration, to chase after others he's envious of because he thinks he is obligated to take what they have.
he seems to genuinely think he is entitled to get whatever he wants, just because he is inherently "special" or "better" than everyone else. Why else would he have made himself a king, a step above princess?
EXCESSIVE NEED FOR ADMIRATION
Turbo's self worth is COMPLETELY dependent on the opinions of children and teenagers. I think i don't need to say any more than that, but i will. (Evil).
As cartoonishly massive as his ego is, i think that it's fair to assume that Turbo has a very unstable sense of self, distorting his perception of his own worth down with it. his near-constant flaunting and need to be the best is a dead giveaway to his deeply-ridden self-doubt. The foundation of his stability is built around how "good" he is (at racing and winning), how powerful he is, whether or not he is being prioritized above everyone else, whether or not he is the absolute best, etc. etc.
The racer outright manipulates others to shower him with admiration and undeserved appreciation. He is incapable of forming a true sense of internal value, instead heavily and codependently relying on others to form it for him. if he isn't the best, he may as well just be nothing.
INTENSE JEALOUSY
He reacts so severely to what he perceives as others taking away what is rightfully his that it only goes to solidify my previous points even further. the second someone else is getting more attention than him, Turbo will bend over backwards to rip back the praise he believes he so rightly deserves.
being extremely competitive, he will one-up against anyone he thinks of as a threat, dedicating himself to taking them down to the best of his ability, and making sure they STAY down to top it all off.
INABILITY TO HANDLE CRITICISM
if we really dissect the entire one-off joke with Turbo insisting that his stolen pink castle is actually "salmon," along with all of his other domineering behaviors, we can garner that he is very persistent in how he wants others to view him. i wholeheartedly believe that this would translate into him not only being defensive over his supposed "ownership" of Sugar Rush, but also over himself and his own insecurities.
He needs to feel good about himself or else he will die and quite literally try to kill everyone.
LACK OF EMPATHY
He appears to have a fondness for making jokes in very poor taste. Turbo has a big sense of humor, but it's always at the expense of others. Be it a pun about a "fungeon," or jumping to protect himself with a joke about "hitting a guy with glasses," he has a tendency to take serious situations very lightly. It's not that he's unaware of the weight of it; he simply doesn't take it Seriously.
its admittedly impressive how he was able to feign empathy so well for Ralph; it goes to show how he is very capable of understanding that what he's doing is wrong, but ultimately does nothing to change his behavior because it doesn't impact him personally.
i would like to honor this part of him, because even in the possible alternate path of a redemption arc, his struggle with empathy can be explored in a variety of interesting ways :-] he can understand complicated emotions and situations on an analytical level, but he doesn't feel for them unless it has to do with him specifically. (this obviously doesn't make him inherently evil, his ACTIONS make him evil)

LACK OF REMORSE/GUILT
One of Turbo's core characteristics is just how far he is willing to go for his own self-interest with lack of regard for how it impacts everyone else. he has absolutely no concern for how anyone else feels besides himself, willing to go so far as to attempt to mutilate a 9-year-old to achieve his petty goals.
Turbo is shameless when it comes to how he goes about getting his way. While I'd like to believe he isn't fully incapable of feeling regret, he doesn't showcase feeling it in the movie itself. The most regret he'll feel is when he slips up and exposes himself. anything else is the fault of everyone else; he is untouchable in his eyes.
DECEITFUL TENDENCIES + LYING
Where do i even start with this one.
well, first of all, let's acknowledge the... erm, horse? in the room? 🐎😅(Please someone help me there is a horse in my room help helphel) being that Turbo went under disguise as King Candy for at least a decade. Even before this, there's a good chance that he's already had plenty of experience with lies and manipulation. i'd be willing to bet on this!!
one of his specialties is being proficient in manipulation, be it the code of games or the minds of people. theyre basically the same thing to him, anyway... I'm sure you all know the scene where he uses 16 manipulation tactics against Ralph and wins. this was Obviously not the first time he'd done this.
REPETITION OF HARMFUL BEHAVIORS
Time and time again, Turbo can't seem to help himself when it comes to poor decision-making. he never internalizes that his bad choices aren't JUST bad for others, but also for himself, continuing to escalate further and further into very dangerous behaviors until he literally dies.
Here's a list of bad decisions he has made! (at least, that we know of)
Pinning himself above his peers
Harassment + stalking
Carelessly charging through GCS with his car, endangering countless civilians
Attempting to take over a game that isn't his x2
Vehicular manslaughter
Implied mass murder + attempted murder, attempted mutilation
Mass endangerment
Breaking and entering, theft, usurpation, plagiarism
and more!!!!!!!
AND HE LEARNS FROM ABSOLUTELY NONE OF THIS!!! with some of the items listed here, he's attempted to do multiple times! Absolute buffoon.
RECKLESS DISREGARD FOR SAFETY OF SELF AND OTHERS
Considering how he was willing to charge into a game that wasn't his own with the awareness that it could permanently kill him, going as far as to recklessly crash into another car (albeit it's possible this was unintentional), it's easy to gather that he doesn't seem to consider anyone's safety at all in the spur of the moment.
IMPULSITIVITY
his impulsivity and disregard for safety both go hand-in-hand. When it gets to a certain point, Turbo's emotions will boil over and blow up in a cold rage, thus causing him to spiral and act on impulse, becoming a detrimental force to himself as well as everyone around him.
What's interesting is how much restraint he is capable of; he typically is very strategic in how he orchestrates his plans! but once he reaches his breaking point, he snaps and leaves all of his hard work behind in favor of something that calls for his immediate attention.

💥 ETC. 💥
extra tidbits i didnt have enough energy to fully delve into :-]
BPD
Fear of abandonment
Blurry sense of identity
Feelings of emptiness
Self destructive tendencies
Emotional instability
Explosive anger
ODD (oppositional defiant disorder)
He seems so infatuated with his own autonomy that he gets to the point of being resistant and defiant
Resisting against the rules of the world that he directly caused as a result of his own actions, being that one shouldn't "go Turbo."
Enjoys upsetting/getting a rise out of others. this is more speculative as i am going off of the assumption that he thinks pissing people off is funny, based on his other behavioral patterns. (cruel sense of humor, wanting to feel above others via control & manipulation, enjoyment of inflicting pain onto others)
Forcefully defends himself and refuses any kind of criticism
Lashes out when he feels slighted
Excessive persistence despite all odds, whether it's beneficial to him or not
