Xie Lian 🤝 Shen Qiao

sweet and innocent on the outside, 'attack me and you'll die' on the inside

It’s pretty common to see people comparing Xie Lian to Shen Qiao (from Thousand Autumns) , but the way I see it, they are not that similar.

Both characters are INFJ, as they are both kind-hearted people characterized by altruism and ideals.

Shen Qiao’s arc is about how he never lets external evil sway his own beliefs, pursuits and moral law, despite all the betrayals and heartbreaks that he has experienced, including from the ML. He is characterized by a pursuit of an ideal higher than himself, and works relentlessly towards the singular abstract ideal.

Xie Lian’s arc is about how he was nearly pushed into a desperate position and lost touch with his ideal, but managed to regain inner passion because he saw the simplest kindness in the common people. Xie Lian is a god but he is at his heart HUMAN. He really dislikes and even fears it when people put blind faith into the glorious image he once presented to the world.

I really don’t think those arcs are essentially similar. Their arcs are aligned with the respective themes of the novel, and ultimately the worldviews of the author.

In terms of romance, it’s hard to make comparisons because the MLs are drastically different, and the overall vibes of the relationships are also different at every level.

One thing worth mentioning is that Xie Lian is actually not as forgiving and naive as Shen Qiao in intimate relationships, partially due to his long history of extreme pain and suffering. XL could not possibly fall for someone who could intentionally hurt and betray him. His trust in HC is based on HC being kind and respectful towards him throughout their interactions.

I'm reading Qian Qiu and I have to say... everything about Yan Wushi makes me love him more and more. I really love that big anti-hero energy of him, it makes everything more enjoyable to read because I feel how he's being himself and he doesn't care about what other people or he beloved will think about it, cause he knows that he'll love him anyway.

ok, ok I HAVE TO SAY THAT I HAVE A THING (KIN) FOR CHARACTERS WITH ANTI-HERO VIBEEESS. They are just incredible because they face their emotions without thinking about others and I personally think that's the purest human nature...

And the contrast of facing emotions with hate and facing emotions being empathic is the duo that I love the most when I'm reading something. I like good boys but I don't like how the authors always have to make these characters face the worst of the world and just continues to being kind, sweet and say that everything is OK. That's how I ended up love Xie Lian so much, that's my only good boy that suffered so so so much but wasn't afraid of facing his hatred for his past and present, he didn't lose his essence but he didn't care about being human in that moment.

wait.. i’m literally on here or weibo almost 24/7 ( as you can tell lol ) but I feel like i missed something. i’m seeing clowning related to xz’s photos and how it looks like he is a groom and it’s a wedding photoshoot. the place is also famous for wedding shoots ( allegedly, idk. i’m not from there ) so turtles are imagining again. lol. freakin coincidence that wyb’s GRA photoshoot was done at a wedding shop. plus the “wedding outfits” for weibo night. which is all clowning and galaxy braining.🌌

now, we’re joking around, like where’s yibo? he should be taking photos with his partner.

then i see comments that there is this one song WYB recently listened to. meaning, as recent as when XZ flew to singapore which is called 超人不会飞 (superman can’t fly) by Jay Chou. i know WYB and everyone else is a big fan of Jay Chou but the clowning comes from the timing of when he listened to it. let me get to that first.

turtles are interpreting it as WYB longing to “fly” to where XZ is and be with him but he can’t because of all his work commitments. he wants to take a breather. thinking about what his life is and the constraints, and at times like this, when they spent days in Beijing, but now they have to be apart, it affects him even more.

however when i read the lyrics, it could also be because he can relate to what jay chou is singing about. here’s the english translation i found here. i have bolded the ones i felt like WYB relates too. literally no need for explanation. just read it. It fits with his status in life so much that it’s almost scary.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with how cpfs are relating this to cpn cause that’s just how it is. But sometimes, there are other reasons why they do what they do.

SO MY CONFUSION COMES FROM HOW THE HELL DO PEOPLE KNOW WHAT HE RECENTLY LISTENED TO. I can’t seem to dig up how or maybe it’s something we don’t talk about. I have never experienced this kind of tidbit related to them before so I wanna know the source. Or is this like the gaming cpn where certain people know and they will not divulge the boy’s account for privacy? if anyone knows, feel free to comment. If i find out in the future, I will share.
