ok it's time for my Official Jiang Cheng Ship Opinions Post. buckle in this is gonna take a bit

Xicheng: I like it in 1 extremely specific circumstance (bonding over very similar experiences post-canon) but I've only seen that done well like. twice. NEEDS to have good characterization (also rare unfortunately) and take into account what they can and can't do as their own sect leaders with regards to courtship/marriage.

Chengqing: perfect in every way. that's it that's all I need to say.

Sangcheng: ehhhhh? Cute in Cloud Recesses summer camp era, not feasible post-canon due to irreconcilable differences in worldview and how much danger it's acceptable to put Jin Ling in.

Zhancheng: honestly I prefer this to be platonic. Hatefucking is not my jam and LWJ is Wei-Ying-sexual in canon anyway. Give Jiang Cheng a friend who is as weirdly obsessed with Wei Wuxian as he is but in a slightly different way. I want to see them coming to terms with that.

Ningcheng: again, someone just as weirdly obsessed with Wei Wuxian, but a little to the left. I don't think either one of them is ever going to look at the other and not see "the guy WWX likes better than me." Maybe someday they'll form a relationship that isn't based entirely around Wei Wuxian, but it seems kind of unlikely.

Chengyao: I'm actually coming around to this a bit recently? Again, it really needs to keep good characterization at the forefront and consider their positions as individual sect leaders, and remember that their "divorced couple energy" is part of the Guanyin Temple shitshow and not the way they would usually behave, especially for Jin Ling's sake. I want to see more fics where Meng Yao grows up with the Jiang sect so that Jiang Cheng is attached to him from the very beginning.

Mingcheng: meh. I don't really think about this ship that much because it honestly doesn't compel me at all. sorry to the mingcheng enjoyers it there I simply do not get it

Chengxuan: same as above, I don't really get this one. Their dynamic is just not that interesting to me.

Chengyi: that is a child. hard no on this one.

Miancheng: kinda cute? I like it when Jiang Cheng recruits her into the Jiang after she gives up on the Jin, it's a fun idea, but I think I like them better as friends.

Ruocheng: no. just no.

Zhucheng (chengliu? Wen Zhuliu and JC): also no.

Chengsu: I could get behind the idea of JGY desperately contacting Jiang Cheng and being like "help I just found out my fiancee is my sister can you please pretend you've been in love with her all this time and get married to her instead??? I'll negotiate to get you more Jin Ling rights if you do." she fits JC's list of desirable qualities in a wife. unfortunately she gets like 6 seconds of screen time and then dies so we really don't know very much about her, which makes it a bit hard to form a strong opinion on the ship

Other Chengsu? Sucheng/Mincheng/Chengshan/whatever this is: I actually think it's interesting that Su She and Jiang Cheng share the trait of "treat them nicely within this narrow window of time in their life in order to get them to become loyal to you forever, otherwise fuck you." It's possible that if Su She had grown up with the Jiang the two of them would have found some common ground and maybe become friends. I'm more interested in non-romantic interactions here

Cheng...yang? what do you call the Xue Yang/Jiang Cheng ship? Xuecheng? idk. again, not really my jam.

Chengjiao. Lingcheng? Jiang Cheng/Wang Lingjiao. Do people even ship this? I could see it as character development for her I guess. At this point I'm just fishing for possible pairings.

and finally, saved for last...

Xiancheng: this isn't romantic or sexual or platonic, it's all three and also a secret fourth thing that's more intense than all of them put together. As a ship, I don't prefer it, because it's too easy to flatten it out into either a boring cutesy fluffy cliche or a boring jealous/possessive boyfriend type thing. I need to see them being weird about each other in a way that no one can possibly identify, especially themselves. They'll die for each other. They'll live for each other. They'll destroy themselves and be happy about it as long as they believe that the other is going to be okay. You really can't make it as simple as "yeah these two want to fuck."

It feels a little weird and awkward to say this but thank you? For doing so much accidental baby acquisition/baby acquisition stuff in general? Its kinds always been my favourite thing to both read and write (has consistently been for over 10 years now) but people seem to majorly have a thing against it (especially when the parents are teens, which like, kinda fair because thats not SUPPOSED to happen irl, but thats also what makes it so interesting to explore in fiction yknow? Especially as a teen pregnancy baby myself) so I always feel very discouraged from writing that stuff. People go on and on about "kids not being a mandatory life step that everyone wants to do, stop giving these characters kids" and I'm just sitting here, absolutely certain I'll never want kids myself, wanting to explore the topic in fiction, and feeling super hurt by that. Why cant those people just leave it alone if they don't like it? What happened to dont like dont read? Why do they have to pick on people who write these topics?

I've only been following you for a month but its already made me start feeling better about my own writing and favourite tropes. Honestly I was kinda meh on kidfic/baby acquisition fics when I was younger and tended to go the "don't like/don't read" route on them myself, but these days it's just kinda helpful to be able to get out some of my feels about both how I was parented and how I'm very unlikely to ever BE a parent despite having previously wanted to, so like, accidental baby acquisition especially has just been REALLY vibing with me as a genre. Like--in the sense of if I ever end up with a kid myself, it almost definitely will BE unplanned and accidental, and also in the sense of my feelings about the idea of making a very deliberate Choice about being a parent, as opposed to just kinda doing it as another checklist item on the list of expected things you just do as you go through life.

Also I'm glad to hear you're feeling better about your writing, it's nice to hear I could help with something like that. ❤ I've been very lucky with the reception I've gotten for my stuff, generally speaking my readers either just don't engage with what they're not into or tell me "hey I'm not even into this, but actually I really enjoyed the way you did it once I tried it". So like, usually I prescribe to the theory of writing about things I care about and trying to be honest and not self-censor too much about the feelings and thoughts I have on those topics, and just try to let my audience find me via tags and word of mouth. If there's people who aren't into my preferred genres, then they can just go play in their own corner of the sandbox and I'll play in mine.

Plus fuck it, man, I just like writing cute kids and also working out personal trauma and helping other people just, like, get the catharsis of reading a healthy parent-child relationship. It just feels good, y'know?

I watched Wish recently, and regarding what people had said, it wasn't bad.

It wasn't good either but it wasn't bad it was... meh.

(Might be spoilers but yeah, if you didn't/don't want to watch it my little analysis won't really interest you)

Now as a Disney and animation fan, I must talk about it because I watched it very late and still manage to bear my own opinion even if no one asked for it so here it is yoohoo

Did I laugh ? Yes two are three times (and no joke, I was the only one cause I'm an easy-laughter); did I smile ? Sure; did I find some music interesting ? Kinda; were the colors pretty ? Yes; the animation for a disney ? Err... m'k.

I get people that like it, there are things that are interesting, it... passes the time, you can show it to toddlers, but yeah, I mostly get people that didn't because I was kinda disappointed. If you take one thing apart from the other, it's quite awful, and when you put it all together it's a "hell no", especially because it's supposed to be the 100th Disney classic. I mean, I get the point of foreshadowing old classics, but some were really messed up like- some characters are just carbon copies of old design ? Asha's best friend is Snow white if she was a disabled four-eyed girl, the tired guy looks like the rich guy in Big Hero 6 and Bambi ? Little John ?? Can't you do that any clearer, we're fucking blind here.... I mean, ok I laughed when I heard that but I don't count I'm an easy laughter, wtf was that, like- I couldn't help but look at my brother like "did you see the same shit I just saw ? And you forced me to come and pay for that ?" and I was mostly laughing out of embarrassment because I WAS ALONE GIGGLING TEARS OF WTF-NESS

Some things were cool I guess, like the mirror effects when Magnifico sings I think ? And at the end when he elsa'd his castle to take the star. The Jafar effect wasn't bad either, but because it's Jafar effect and Jafar is a fucking badass, same with Elsa-ying the castle, because this scene in frozen was very cool

I felt bad at first but I must say, the songs are very disappointing. Like I wasn't expecting much, and it sure stuck in the head easily but that doesn't mean it's nice. The ones I appreciated were the song about the wishes (the clip is pretty) and maybe the revolution song (but the clip was urgh and why the hell they look so lifeless ???) I get why people said it was made by AI lol

In terms of character, except the Queen and grandpa, I didn't like any of them. Like usually I can't hate or dislike a Disney character, but here ? None of them was fine to me. Actually, I felt nothing from them. The villain was erh... basic I guess, he could be nice like the woman in The Rescuers but no he was, well basic "I'm perfect they should be grateful but they are not so let's become an asshole !" So yeah. Disappointed. He was a better villain than Hans, tho, maybe because Hans wasn't supposed to be a villain at first and that Magnifico was like Jafar, Evil Queen and Scar had a baby. Also, it seems to me like they didn't have a few or any -like ANY- personality, like- I CALLED THE TREASON OUT THE MOMENT I SAW THE LIFELESS BIG BOY COMON'

Now, I'm coming to people saying all the kids love it and I'm too old for that: no. No, I'm not too old for that, Disney is for everyone. No, not all the kids will love it, kids get easily bored, and this movie isn't very attractive. I bet if I show this to my nieces and nephews and siblings, they wouldn't care less - and they already don't very much care about movies in general when you put one for them. There were at least four kids in the theater and none laughed, or sounded interested, one preferred to play on his daddy's phone ??? well, I know all kids aren't like that, but really, this movie wasn't made to content the kids, it was made to content the fans clearly, that is why the movie isn't good.

Anyways, if you enjoyed it good for you ! The colors are pretty and the technic used is interesting, the chara design of Asha and the Queen are pretty, I can't say anything for the rest, tho, because the bg design is just resuming the old (and new *cough* encanto *cough*) classics anyway, but less good at guess... but really, if you like it, good for you, and say why, so I don't have a bad souvenir of it forever lol

Classic: reluctant at first for sure, but secretly likes it. usually he likes being able to protect the people around him, but being held is... suprisingly nice. His favorite is obv Paps, but he really likes Grillby cuddles too.

Pyrus: Oh he loves it! He doesn't really have a cuddle buddy but he will hug the shit out of anyone within reach and it's PYRUS who doesn't want to give him a hug?? vaguely remembers Classic cuddles when he was little and loved them.

Blue: in his head? oh yeah, hopping straight into his lovers arms. "HOLD ME!" in reality? uh. not so much. He loves cuddles but once Stretch got "too old" for them, which is bullshit, he compensated by being really touchy. Once he got with Vet.. yeah. He's on him CONSTANTLY. He likes that he's cold.

Stretch: oh he loves being held and holding people, but is.. really awkward and nervous about it. the idea of being held and holding people is great though

Red: oh, big guys loves cuddles for sure. his past girls can definitly testify that his guy as warm and fshkdajfbeaf i love him. loves holding people and will not be caught dead as the little spoon.

Edge: Also a big spoon, doesn't give a singular fuck that he's shorter than his partners. Watch him. very warm, loves that Dezi is pleasently cool and apollo's middle temp. he loves them.

Helvetica: super. super. just. AAAAA. i love him. *slaps skeleton ass* this bad boy can hold SO much trauma in him. after his.. very traumatic relationship with his version of grillby and his universe in general he has an odd feeling for touch. blue being cold really helps his touch aversion though! he likes it fine, but it's not a need for him. he found being held very comforting when he was panicking during the hurricane though. and even though he loves his little brother.. they just didn't really do.. touch. so. it's complicated.

Malvery: oh same as Stretch. loves the idea, doesn't really have anyone to cuddle with though. he does wish that the others were.. uh. well. apollo was real pretty. and so was dezi. and Edge had been protecting him for a while. uhm.

Hop: He had a girl back in his home universe. Cuddles we're.. awkward and weren't really his thing, but he still liked them alright.

Tango: very single and wants to keep it that way. the idea of cuddles are fine, but he's not all that attatched to touch. he likes movement.

Cosmic: he misses his grillby so damn much. he would give anything for fire cuddles atp.

Orion: pretty much the same as tango. just kinda meh.

Dust: Touch starved but also touch adverse. Keigo and Dyrus are the only people than can touch him and not make him feel like there are fucking termites in his bones. keigo holding him had him melting a little bit though ngl :)

Keigo: had a very hard time with touch at first. as a human, he hated it sometimes. he despretely wanted affection but couldn't stand people touching him. like. at all. hes a lot better now, no skin to crawl, hahah, and he loves his Mars-Lust cuddles. Apollo and Grillby are still his favorite cuddle buddies though. Chara too. Grillby is so warm and. aaaaaa they're so in love. Apollo is literally his baby dont get him started, and chara's his daughter and he is a very proud and protective father. they don't really cuddle, but the hugs are sweet. Apollo and Grillby's wing cuddles are the best though

Apollo: oh he loves wing cuddles and being curled up with keigo is probably his most favorite, nostalgia inducing thing ever. but. Edge and Dezi have him feeling romantical so. LMAO. Hairy Hob is a blessing I never thought I needed. And this is coming from someone who was kind of meh on the whole body hair thing in sex stuff, it's fine if it's in it, but not my thing usually. There's a bit more of them but those are just examples of voicelines that drive me crazy... I'm used to the not caring or being an insensitive asshole thing that goes around NRC but meh it's still shitty to react like that with someone you're supposedly getting on real good terms with lol

I usually don't mine spoilers but uh that last part is pretty scummy... My guess is that the Yuu we play as is a GN Enma Yuuken. In the Manga s/he isn't a bad person. They're an extremely kind character but blunt character, who many describe as cheeky. Yuuken tried to look out for Riddle in the first chapter just for Riddle to scream at them.

Theyre a responsible vice captian of the kendo club, a fucking swordmans club (and this can also explain what Yuu does during OBS). Theyre a lot like Jack as in theyre sporty and have a strong moral code. They also have a very close friend that they left behind called Saya, whom they remixed to train with since they look up to them.

They seem to be a bit dense, perhaps a musclely thembo but it's so weird that we don't even get a consistent Yuu across the game? Especially since Yuu in canon is very kind??? My guess is that they didn't mean it to be an asshole. They know that Azul is very strict with his diet, and they as a sports member and leader is also very understanding of that and wants to help others.

They probably just wanted to check in with Azul to make sure he's not ruining his goals. As for Jack, he's not all that open about himself aside from sports, so it's probably genuine surprise. My guess with Malleus is that he lightly threatened him as he sometimes does and Yuuken obviously being cautious shows caution. Malleus of course lightly teases for Yuu and thats really it, kinda like how Maleficent and Aurora are.

Idk. I think Yuuken is such an interesting MC that gets done dirty in the games. Like hello? I get that were supposed to be a blank slate but give us a sword like Yuuken????

Last episode, like 50 mins long and I don't know what I'm hoping for. like at first, the show was mostly about Babe and Charlie and I want a good closure for them too, esp after like 3 episodes without them together. But I'm randomly so invested in like Kenta now and I don't know what I want from that end. I don't care that much about Alan and Jeff anymore, unfortunately but I'm guessing we'll get some time with them too. Also want to see how the huge and elaborate child trafficking ring is dealt with.

Overall:

This show had everything: non-traditional alpha/alpha relationship (w concepts I wasn't aware of like Enigmas but somehow no Omegas lol), racecar competitions, x-men like superpowers (heightened senses, stealing powers, hypnosis, mind reading, telling the future), child trafficking, pseudo-incest if you think about it (from Kenta's side at least) and more. And it didn't have a super strong script, there were nonsensical elements and plot holes that didn't get addressed and things that happened to just move the plot along, but it was a fun watch nonetheless, both for the novelty and the entertainment factor.

The most important aspect of the show was definitely the characters and relationships despite there being like a wrong human trafficking ring and everything involved; it well went back to how it affected the people and their relationships. Babe was a very compelling character with his past and how he behaves in the present and his relationships with Tony/Way/people in general. Also helped that Pavel did a really good job with him and acted his ass off, there were quite a few emotional moments in there.

I agree with some people's comments that I wish Charlie's actor Pooh as a better actor. And his character wasn't as developed or with depth as the other ones either, like in terms of emotions I guess. I could never quite tell how much in love with Babe he really was at a given time because he didn't quite... look it, it looked more like a little puppy fanboy who may or may not be playing it up to conceal his true intentions. Alan and Jeff were cuter in my head before they got together tbh. North and Sonic are dating to me, they're so cute.

Although I really liked Charlie/Babe, my true ship winners might be Pete/Kenta in a Not Me ToddBlack fashion, to be honest, with Kenta as maybe my favourite character (2nd is Babe). They gave us like 2 tiny hints that they might know each other and waited until literally last 10 mins of episode 11 out of 13 to lay out their history and baggage and relationship and Kenta's crush, all the while showing them in a fight where Kenta's trying to hurt Pete (but Pete knowing Kenta can't kill him). They have an interesting friends (-> brothers/crush) -> enemies -> allies again at the very end dynamic where I think that they could become lovers post-canon. And I love how pathetic and desperate for love Kenta is and how he was willing to do despicable things for Tony's approval before finally, finally knifing him. Really had me writing a fic idea in my notes app after my few months of no drive to write, I wonder if I'll actually finish it or not because it's kinda... more explicit and intense than the fics I usually write but it was really good in my brain.

Once again, I'm shallow, so here are the people I find most beautiful: Charlie specifically when he has his glasses on and is being a cute puppy, Sonic omg pretty girl for real, Babe is so attractive - esp the younger version of him without the gelled hair but even in the present day when he smiles and is happy he's so beautiful. Jeff sometimes but I think I'm more into his vibes than specifically his face. Way is gorgeous omg, also aside but that actor has mentioned dating men before including a 7 year relationship.

Ufff if this isn't true! Herge had overdone it with many jokes, like Calculus hearing or Bianca's singing, but Haddock's drinking was by far the most damaging for the character himself and they are really aged as fine as milk.

It breaks my heart to see Haddock's reputation being limited in drinking jokes and making fool of himself. I mean he is a fool but a drinking fool isn't all he is. I could list all the things Haddock is, good and bad, and need many words for that and still not mention drinking. No, I'm not kidding and I'm sure whoever is a fan of his and the series could do the same.

I am not saying let's ignore his drinking problem of course. I'm just saying let's see what's beyond joking about it. I'm saying let's try to be better than Herge and not take this just for laughs.

Btw I find Tintin's behavior with Haddock's drinking interesting. In many cases he uses it as a bait to make Haddock want to do what Tintin wants, usually making it even a pride matter. However I think that Tintin sees the potential Haddock has and he uses alcohol to make him do what he could do anyway. I have this thought that Haddock isn't exactly forced to do that as he changes quickly his mind with just one sentence from Tintin. You could say that Haddock is easy to be lead but you have to know his buttons. And Tintin has done it to move forward with the adventure and not stay behind, like in Shooting Star or Tibet. BUT Tintin has shown great concern about Haddock's drinking too, in Red Rackham's Treasure especially where he got rid of the bottles, and of course in the moon when he yelled at him.

It's like Herge hadn't decided what exactly to do with Haddock's drinking. Sometimes it's handled seriously and others lightly and most of the times for a joke. Maybe with the pills in Picaros he could have the chance to show more of Haddock's character without drinking or maybe not, I wouldn't put my hands on the fire for Herge.

Anyway I want to see more jokes about Haddock hating mineral water.

The keyboard is back and they have it set to something other than "clown rock"! In fact, it actually kinda kicks some ass here.

The anthem of the Wife Guy, and one of the few Doors songs i genuinely liked before this musical odyssey.

And you bet i love her when she's walking out the door, because when that happens, i often get to see a nice booty as she goes.

Also, I'm fairly certain that she's gonna walk *back in* the door again, because that's generally how doors (and healthy relationships) work.

TOM WAITS RETURNS! to sing about how he should be released from prison so he can go and get his dick sucked.

Honestly had me in the first half, but then the second half starts and I've begun rolling my eyes so hard that i can check out *my own* ass at this point.

I like the first lines. Very evocative.

Then the next lines instantly reminds me *why* Jim was so worried about women walking out on him.

I feel like if Jim Morrison ever did even one second's worth of introspection, he'd have written a song called "I'm the cause of all of my problems".

Shame he died not long after this album released and never got the chance.

This song is legitimately really good. Everybody's nicely working together musically, the lyrics are not immediately problematic as hell, and even the needless Mr Mojo Rising bridge can't bring it down.

A bit long but it's The Doors, so i was expecting that, and at least this one keeps it moving and doesn't drag on for two full minutes of random noises like The End did.

Cool guitar work in the intro. With the keys coming in, it sounds nice and creepy. Sinister.

It's even less cool to a modern ear, and everything else is mostly rambly talk-singing trying to sound clever.

•Riders on the Storm-

I love *the music* in this song, and the storm noises throughout are a great touch.

But, as usual for Morrison, the lyrics are the kind of quasi-insightful, rhyming dictionary-ass nonsense that only feel deep if you're so baked that "getting off of a couch" is a Sisyphean task.

Overall, i liked it better than the debut, but that isn't saying much. Still not a Doors fan.

Favorite Track: Love Her Madly. It just makes me think of my wife, because it me for real for real.

Least Favorite Track: a tie between The Wasp and Crawling King Snake.

Supernatural, Ep. 3x16

so this is it. the season finale. luckily for season three, it's my favorite finale so far. unluckily for season three, it was still not that good.

lilith is a genuinely terrifying villain as the little girl. as katie cassidy, she's mostly scary in that she is reminiscent of the little girl. like, the little girl was bone chilling. the fact that she took this family hostage is scary enough, but the fact that literally everyone else in the neighborhood is a demon is a better layer on an already terrifying cake.

bobby is in this episode, but doesn't get to participate in the action, which is fairly typical for bobby. his trick with the sprinklers was genuinely inspired, and one of the moments i love about supernatural. every so often they manage to do something spectacularly clever. unfortunately, those clever things are usually quite minor, and overshadowed by incredibly unclear decisions.

ruby is back at it again. unfortunately, i don't find ruby particularly compelling as she is on the screen. on paper, there's a lot to ruby that interests me, it's just that i never see it. i'm sure part of this is the writing and directing, but i think a large part of it is katie cassidy herself. every decision she makes is so hit you over the head that it erases any potential subtlety to the character. i think there's a lot to be done with ruby, but i don't know that katie cassidy can do it. also i just can. not. get past the laurel lance of it all.

sam is, once again, just kind of sitting on his ass plot wise. he is incredibly willing to let other people make his decisions for him. dean tells him not to follow ruby's plan, and he doesn't fight that hard for it. it's only when the chips are down, when he's absolutely sure that dean is going to die, that he tries to actually do it. the longer i spend with sam, the more passive he seems, which is a bizarre choice for the main character of a show, especially after three seasons. i want him to fucking do something, anything, instead of just doing whatever dean does. and his storyline has been completely dropped. did he come back wrong? did he not come back wrong? they haven't resolved this plot line, but they also haven't talked about it for ages. am i just supposed to forget about this? on the one hand, i want to because he is doing a Bad Job of coming back wrong. on the other hand, it has potential to be a compelling storyline, and it shouldn't just be abandoned even if it didn't.

and dean... my sweet baby dean. he has a genuinely brilliant moment capturing ruby and stealing her knife. like this is a really smart guy. and he's great at reading people, particularly sam. he knows what sam will do and he twists that to his own ends. point for dean.

but, the climax of this episode, and of the season, is dean's death. it is disappointing. he does not get ripped apart by hellhounds, just mildly injured. and he still dies. i like the fact that hellhounds are invisible, but other than that, this death is just kinda meh. and he deserved better, you know. also, hell is just kinda meh. like this is actual literal hell. this is the thing. and it just looks like terrible cgi.

i know that there was a writer's strike when this season was being made (echoes of today, i suppose). but i feel like this season would've been fine at best without that pressure. the bones of this season are okay, but the muscles are bad. the fact that the skin is also bad is more an accident of temporality than anything else. but that doesn't change the musculature.

my final thoughts on season three: i liked it better than season two. that's not a compliment by the way, it's an acknowledgment that it's pretty easy to step over a bar lying on the ground.

Man okay we have been In The Process of getting a new bed for a bit now and I finally got rid of the old platform the day before the new one arrives...I picked out a company, no big deal, asked for a quote. They gave me a quote for someone else's furniture. I said nah man I have a platform and frame. So they gave me an estimate. I said okay, it's pretty awkward, on the second floor, definitely a two person job. They said yeah that was fine. How about this afternoon? Or tomorrow? To which I said, now hold on, I still need to empty it out. How about Saturday or Monday? They didn't get back to me until Tuesday to say hey let's do it Wednesday, and by that time I was just like, you know what, sure, whatever gets it out of the house.

Wednesday happened (today) and they were scheduled to show up between 10:30-1. So I got up and finalized all the stuff I needed to do still by 10:30. Drawers empty, sheets off because we're keeping the mattress but it obviously had to be moved, hide the unmentionables in a box, you know. Bribe the Boys to go into their cat room and play with a nice treats ball full of freeze-dried chicken. The usual for having a contractor come out. I kinda needed a shower and a proper breakfast or lunch but I figured, meh, they'll be here too soon, I can do it after.

Which of course wasn't the case! They called at 1:30 to say they'd be there at 3:30 and also am I totally sure that it had to be a two guy job? I said yeah I'm sure, it's not something you can disassemble, it's a pain in the ass. So they go, well, okay, I'll find a second guy. Meanwhile thinking to myself that this guy is at least as organized as I am.

Eventually they showed up at 4:10. Yeah. And it went okay after that, but then he was like, well it was really awkward and hard to move, and told me a final cost higher than the estimate. Which means that I ended up breaking into the holiday money my dad gave me to cover it because we didn't withdraw more cash than the high end estimate plus a tip, because like...why would we, right?

This was also the third day in a row that I only slept four hours and I'm starting to feel it pretty hard...the new bed comes tomorrow but thank fuck it's not until well into the afternoon so I can catch up a bit. At the risk of sounding vaguely my age, my back is killing me...but then again it's been doing that my whole life so it's not saying much I guess.

Also the delivery guys with the furniture company are actually really good and I've dealt with them before so I'm not worried, just...fuck man I am tired and want a day without shit happening this week and that's not looking likely yet.

Also also I'm still waiting to hear back from the builder about the fact that the hot water Isn't quite a bit of the time. It worked fine, then it started dropping temp after a bit, and if it weren't a tankless heater I would probably even have some idea what to do about it but it's a very nice tankless so I'm kinda clueless. And we have some broken screens from window and gutter cleaning because they were installed so ungodly tight in the frames that they literally cannot be removed now, which is less than ideal for a whole lot of reasons.

AND WE STILL NEED TO ORDER BLINDS? I didn't even know where they came from until I realized I could just ask my mom? I'm handy enough with objects but processes, not so much!

Well I'm dying to talk about Castlevania or I'll explode so here's my tier list for the "modern" era, regular timeline (non-LoS) games (basically SotN and onward), in honor of me getting the Platinum trophy for Dominus Collection last night :)

Reasons under the cut:

S Tier

Portrait of Ruin - LOOOOOVE this one. It's been my fave since pretty much the very first time I played it back on the DS and still is after my recent replay with the collection. Jonathan and Charlotte are just such fun protagonists and stand out a lot in this series, and I think the story is actually pretty decent in this one. By CV standards lol. Soundtrack is AMAZING, please listen to "Gaze Up at the Darkness" because it RULES. PoR also has very fair boss fights and a fair level EXP gain rate, and good drops from enemies too. The paintings are super neat too, mixes up the usual "well, here's Dracula's castle" of most of the games.

Lament of Innocence - I actually think OoE is an objectively better game overall, but I have a lot of love for Lament and am one of its big defenders so I'll put it one slot above lol. Leon! My favorite Belmont! He goes through the wringer in this game, and it's a very interesting origin story for the Belmont fight against Dracula. The gameplay is fun, kind of DMC-lite but with a whip (and cool elemental versions you can get from some optional fights). The level design is a lot of long hallways, but it has good atmosphere, and the game doesn't overstay its welcome as it is pretty short. Another FANTASTIC soundtrack too btw.

Order of Ecclesia - a game I didn't like at all back on the DS but fell in love with after my Dominus replay. Once the gameplay clicks, it is so satisfying swapping glyph loadouts and hitting weaknesses on enemies. You have to play smarter in this game, and it was fun improving. Hype as hell when you finally get to the castle, too. Shanoa is a very cool protagonist and has some of the best lines in the series, and I'm unabashedly obsessed with Albus. GOD he was so asdjfk;ls sorry, but damn was he perfectly tailored to my tastes. Story was good in this one, actually made me a bit emotional ngl, which is something I don't expect from this series lol. I lose my mind over the songs "Sorrow's Distortion" and "Rituals" just so you know

A Tier

Aria of Sorrow - extremely good game where the handheld ones found their footing fully, with a very cool concept of "what if Dracula was gone, but maybe he isn't ;)" Soma is iconic for good reason, and the Soul System is fun with a lot of options, even if I'm not nuts enough to ever try for 100% soul completion lmao. The castle is a little small in this one and it feels oddly short for the Metroidvania-era games, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I like the almost... soft?... look of the visuals in this one. Graham is also one of the villains I kinda like the most in this series, so that's cool.

Dawn of Sorrow - Pretty much Aria of Sorrow 2 lol. But I think it loses a little without the novelty of AoS's questions about Soma as the Dark Lord and all. Also, the villains in this game are fucking goobers lol, their character designs are godawful. Other than the castle being larger this time around, I think DoS doesn't really do anything different than AoS, and since I'm a freak who values story, I prefer Aria overall. That said, Julius Mode is pretty sick and I think Dawn's soundtrack is a little stronger overall.

B Tier

Symphony of the Night - I feel like it's blasphemy putting SotN this far down, but I honestly think it is a bit overrated. Good certainly and extremely important to the franchise, but also kinda jank to go back and play. I don't like the way equipment or items work in this game, and I'm not... super fond of the castle layout compared to the higher tier games. Inverted castle is also kinda meh, the only time I like that is when PoR did it with the paintings. However, I do love the original PS1 dub of this game. Absolutely iconic. The newer one sucks because it's so safe that it loses the charm. Like, come on. I think a series that has giant Frankenstein's Monster enemies shooting bullets out of its elbows can afford to have some cheesy lines and voice acting.

Harmony of Despair - a really fun multiplayer game! But it could use more maps (that it'll never get since it's long been abandoned 😭), and character balance is a little iffy. But I have a lot of fun with this one, even just with two players! It's functionally co-op Metroidvania, what's not to like? I think this game would do quite well with a revival on modern consoles and cross-play, and I dream of a world where that exists and they add new DLC. why the hell wasn't Albus in this game btw, like wtf he literally was playable in OoE and had sprites available

Harmony of Dissonance - ...this is confusing putting the two games with "Harmony" in their name right next to each other when they're not connected at all lol. Anyway, I like HoD, but it has some definite issues, the most of the games in this tier. The visuals are... hoo boy. The color palette is a bit much. And the music is uh... it's infamous in the series for a reason. The sad thing is that I think the actual compositions are solid, just hamstrung by the shitty Gameboy sound chip or whatever, and I'm someone who usually likes retro game music. Gameplay is solid, though! The A/B castle thing is kind of annoying because this game has some atrocious warp room locations IMO, but it's fun being able to dash and slide with reckless abandon as Juste. Wind+Bible is also a godly subweapon combo

Grimoire of Souls - damn you, Apple Arcade, for having this as an exclusive. I can't speak to the gameplay on this one for that reason, but I watched a whole 3.5 hour playthrough for the story, so I'm judging on that, mostly. A fun little plot that let characters from a lot of different time periods/games interact, which is cool. Lucy and Hermina were good original characters, too. Death in this game was kinda 👀 Lol I kid I kid, I only have eyes for Albus, who was not nearly as important in this game as I'd hoped but had an extremely nice scene with Shanoa, so it was worth. Jonathan and Charlotte were also very entertaining here, as always. I'll be real: those three were the whole reason I watched this tbh

C Tier

Circle of the Moon - this game is SO HARD. Like, I eventually got good in Order of Ecclesia to overcome the difficulty, but that moment of understanding just never hit me in this game. And there are no shops!! Oh my goooooooood, why??? If you could get potions more easily, it might be a little more reasonable, but I don't think the drop rates were even that good to make up for it. The boss fights were so tough, man... If I give this another try, I might have to do the DSS glitch, which I didn't know about at the time.

Curse of Darkness - Real talk, I don't remember this one very well at this point. I mostly just remember not liking the Innocent Devil system or the map design that much and thinking it was disappointing after I loved Lament so much. Maybe I'd like it better if I tried it again now, I dunno. Not much to say here. I like Netflix!Hector better though :(

D Tier

Judgment - Look, I have some good memories from this game. I used to play it against my sisters. I was super excited for it at the time. But it's just a super jank game. And the story mode is BAD (aside from a few characters). Like, I can handle anime cringe. But this is the BAD kind of anime cringe, the "boob envy"-kind of anime cringe. Maria's story is *gag sounds* Also not a fan of the roster choices here. CV3 in particular gets way too much rep, the GBA-DS era not enough (only Shanoa, and even then they murdered her design???). I can't believe Soma at least didn't make it in, a character with so many moveset options? Good for Cornell being in though, nice seeing the N64 characters actually acknowledged and he had one of the better story modes too. Speaking of characters, who thought it was a good idea to do a game that was functionally a big ol' celebration of the series with character designs that so drastically changed most characters into being unrecognizable? The Death Note expy jokes are played out, but they're so true nonetheless. The worst thing is still Maria's story mode and especially her interaction with Sypha, though. I cannot stress enough how bad it is. It makes me feel embarrassed just thinking about it lmfao
