Do the recent or right-now-ongoing crazy global weather scare you? Bother you? Interest you?
I'm pulling this from various media sources, because there is so much crazy weather happening now, or that has happened within the last couple of weeks, it seems like no single media source is picking it up.
From Heatmap AM:
Houston’s floods – More than 400 people in and around Houston, Texas, evacuated their homes over the weekend due to flooding. At least one person, a child, was killed. In one nearby county, more than 21 inches of rain fell over five days last week. The rain has tapered off but the cleanup has just begun.
Brazil’s rain – In Brazil’s southern state of Rio Grande do Sul, days of intense rain caused the Guaiba River to overflow and flood more than 340 cities, including the region’s capital of Porto Alegre. At least 78 people are dead and more than 115,000 have been forced to evacuate. One climatologist calledthe catastrophe “a disastrous cocktail” of climate change and the El Niño effect. “It looks like a scene out of a war,” said Rio Grande do Sul governor Eduardo Leite.
Chile’s fires – Fires in Chile’s Valparaiso region, fueled by an intense heat wave and enduring drought, have killed at least 51 people and burned more than 64,000 acres.
Kenya’s deluge – Flooding and landslides in Kenya from unrelenting rainfall have killed more than 200 people. It is still raining and the weather is forecast to worsen throughout the month of May.
Southeast Asia’s heat wave – A lengthy heat wave has shattered temperature records across Southeast Asia, forcing many schools to close. One weather historian called the heat wave “the most extreme event in world climatic history.”
From the Associated Press (AP):
A weekend spring storm that drenched the San Francisco Bay area and closed Northern California mountain highways also set a single-day snowfall record for the season on Sunday (May 5) in the Sierra Nevada. The wet weather system had mostly moved out of the state by Sunday morning, but officials warned that roads would remain slick after around two feet (60 centimeters) of snow fell in some areas of the Sierra. “Did anyone have the snowiest day of the 2023/2024 season being in May on their winter bingo card?” the University of California, Berkeley Central Sierra Snow Lab asked on the social platform X. The 26.4 inches (67 centimeters) of snowfall on Sunday beat the second snowiest day of the season — March 3rd — by 2.6 inches (6.6 centimeters), according to the lab.
From Yale Climate Connections:
For the first time since the 2010s, a high-risk outlook for severe weather (level 5 of 5) has been issued for parts of the Great Plains. The outlook was put in place at 8 a.m. EDT Monday, May 6, and updated at 12:30 p.m. EDT Monday by the NOAA/National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, as a busy few days of severe weather moved into high gear. Dozens of tornadoes could erupt by midweek, including in and near Oklahoma on Monday and across a broad swath of the mid-Mississippi and lower Ohio River valleys on Wednesday. Many of the worst tornado U.S. outbreaks of recent years have played out across the Mississippi Valley and Southeast, but multiple rounds of twisters have hammered the Plains since late April, taking at least seven lives and wreaking what will no doubt be hundreds of millions of dollars in damage.
From Wikipedia:
On 16 April 2024, heavy rains caused floods in the United Arab Emirates, affected cities of mainly Dubai and Sharjah, the northern Emirates, and different areas of the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. According to the National Center for Meteorology (United Arab Emirates) , this was the country's heaviest rainfall recorded in 75 years. The floods in the Emirates were a part of the greater Persian Gulf floods.

(loki x plus size/chubby reader)
author - wes perry @supbeeches
a/n - don’t be rude, this is my first story. i like to think i am a decently good writer and i always strive for good imagery. hope this foreshadows the level of writing of this story. i am also a big girl myself, so yeah. there will be no smut, since this is my first story. i’m better at writing angsty things...i think.
about - the reader is troubled with insecurities regarding their body and outlook. loki tries his best to understand them and internalize their feelings.
❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤🤍
Her luminescent hair.
Her bright smile and glittering eyes.
Her soft skin.
Her arms.
Her hanging stomach.
Her rippling thighs.
Her fireworks.
Her spots.
“Mistakes”.
Her.
Nothing would suffice. Nothing could bring her to the mirror and show- feed her. Feed her need for fulfillment. Feed her need for self-satisfaction.
It must be hard to understand, for a god. It must be hard to realize that his mortal cannot simply read his mind and know, truly, how he really feels. He wants her to see the her he sees. He wants  her to read him, which might sound risky to some. But they don’t understand. No one does. Not even her. Regardless of how much the god pries, it must have been hard to see lie after lie tying down the possibility of the brightest smile.
As the lady stands before the mirror, an alternate reality unfolds. Beyond the surface of the mirror, he can see her. Glass is broken, blood is shed, tears cascade, and sobs are forged through the walls of reality. Through her eyes, her present is immortalized and broken. Through her eyes stands a pupil-caged girl, gasping for air as she tears her person apart. Through her eyes the god can see oh, how she wished to be free. She wished to be free from the so-called cage that embellishes his every thought.
My angel, how I wish to understand you.
Why must you raid your shelter? What if it rains? What if I need your warm home to feel mine? Why must you torture me this way? The girl I love and desire is trapped in the gaze of the mirror. Please, I beg of you. I tremble at the thought of being left alone in the rain.
The reality of the dominant gods inability to parade his honest thoughts edged him to his rainfall. The god hoped that his pleas of trying endeavors will remove her from the cage that holds her happiness captive.
Look at me. Look at me, please. Step away from the mirror. Place yourself in my arms.
He comes back; spotting a string attached from his hand to hers. Written along the fibres of the tie, were his tried pleads and praises from the past.
i see you, my angel.
i don’t need anything other than you.
my everything.
my flower.
my shelter.
The string pulls, luring the seemingly hopeless man to his lost hope. To her. There, he wraps his arms around her, laying his head on her shoulder. His arms come to envelope hers as his lips kiss right under her ear.
“My home”.
❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤🤍
a/n - my apologies for how long it took to finish this! i hope you like it! i didn’t change much but it didn’t feel done. I still might look back and edit but for now, it’s done! mwah mwah hugs and kisses <3

Tropical Weather Outlook
NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL
200 PM EDT Thu Sep 5 2024
For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:
1. Northwest Gulf of Mexico:
A large area of showers and thunderstorms continue in association
with a broad area of low pressure interacting with a weak frontal
boundary located over the northwestern Gulf of Mexico. Upper-level
winds are expected to become less conducive for development by late
Friday and Saturday as another frontal boundary approaches the
system. Although development is unlikely, heavy rainfall is
expected across portions of the northern Gulf Coast during the next
day or so. Additional information on this system can be found in
products issued by your local National Weather Service Forecast
Office.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...10 percent.
* Formation chance through 7 days...low...10 percent.
2. Northwestern Atlantic (AL99):
Showers and thunderstorms have become better organized in
association with a non-tropical area of low pressure located a few
hundred miles east of North Carolina, and recent satellite data
indicates the system is producing winds to near gale-force. This
system could acquire some tropical or subtropical characteristics
over the next day or two while it moves generally
north-northeastward, remaining offshore of the northeastern United
States. Once the low moves over cooler waters by early Saturday,
further development is not expected. Additional information on this
system, including gale warnings, can be found in High Seas Forecasts
issued by the National Weather Service.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...30 percent.
* Formation chance through 7 days...low...30 percent.
3. Eastern Tropical Atlantic:
An elongated trough of low pressure over the eastern tropical
Atlantic is producing limited shower activity. Development is not
expected through this weekend while the system moves little. Some
slow development appears possible early next week when the
disturbance begins moving slowly northwestward.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...near 0 percent.
* Formation chance through 7 days...low...20 percent.
4. Northwestern Caribbean Sea and Southwestern Gulf of Mexico:
Shower and thunderstorm activity remains disorganized in
association with a westward-moving tropical wave located over the
western Caribbean Sea. Development is not expected before the
system reaches Belize and the Yucatan Peninsula by early Friday.
Some gradual development is possible late in the weekend into early
next week after the system emerges over the southwestern Gulf of
Mexico.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...near 0 percent.
* Formation chance through 7 days...low...20 percent.
5. Central Tropical Atlantic:
Another tropical wave located a few hundred miles east of the
Leeward Islands is producing limited shower and thunderstorm
activity. Strong upper-level winds are expected to inhibit
development of this system during the next few days while it moves
west-northwestward at 10 to 15 mph. By early next week,
environmental conditions could become more conducive for some slow
development while the system moves over the southwestern Atlantic
Ocean.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...near 0 percent.
* Formation chance through 7 days...low...10 percent.

The Problems of being a Techmaster (...or, Entrapta Forgot What Side She’s On Again).
Length: 1927 words
Characters: Bow, Entrapta, Catra, featuring Scorpia and Hordak
Bow tapped his fingers against the adorable little doodles on the paper, watching Travis spin himself back and forth in his chair out of agitation.
Travis was the guildmaster of the Makers' Guild. He was usually a nervous sort, nice enough, silently working on his prosthetics and the magazine most days, but this time he had called on Bow for help in quite a hurry. Travis had received a very strange letter.
It was scrawled in the messiest kind of handwriting, like the sender was impatiently trying to get their thoughts out way faster than their pen could move. The way it was clearly written in byro pen, rather than with a quill, already narrowed down who it could've come from.
When Bow squinted, he could make out the contents:
Hi Travin (I hope I got it right this time?)
I read your article last month about the problems youve been researching with keeping all the crops in Erelandia irrigated during the dry season, and I thought your solution with using a water arrow rainfall was very creative but also seems really inefficient!!! It would be more effective to just water the plants by hand at that stage?
There was a cute illustration of an arrow with a tiny water trail, and a big X next to it.
Bow frowned at this. Nevermind that the article on crops was written five months ago. He thought his suggestion was perfect! Exercise and agility training for everyone, while they help their food grow. But hey, what did he know!! (Okay maybe everyone had looked at him funny when he brought it up but THEY didn't have any better ideas now did they?)
I've been working on lots of exciting new projects recently, and over here they have an entire system that helps you store and use large amounts of water! There are towns with decent sewage systems, sure, but over here the water can be clean as well and people use it to keep themselves clean or drink. I think it's brilliant and it could improve so many things!!! But I've put together an early plan for how we can use a similar system to keep food healthy. They don't eat fresh food here, so I haven't tested this idea yet, but maybe you'll like it!
The notes detailed a plan of laying pipes and hoses around the crop fields, connecting them to a reservoir, and distributing water evenly. There were even very rough ideas for a conservatory, using heating and glass to keep crops warm during the coldest seasons. Bow wasn't so sure on using canisters full of incredibly flammable gas to power the system, but it was at least inspired. Bow had not been there for long, but he believed everything written down was based on the Fright Zone's gas and water technology. These plans were rushed onto paper, and the edges were covered in inattentive little scribbles, but everything important was laid out in incredible detail.
Entrapta had drawn further illustrations at the end with a tiny figure and a robot, probably herself and Emily, going “WOW!!!” at the new hypothetical irrigation system. Bow loved the energy. It was a shame they'd never gotten to bond over their love of drawing cute things before she switched sides. Maybe if he asked her to check out Tiny Bow and his other model figures the next time they were fighting, he could get her to rejoin the Rebellion---
“What can we do?” Travis whimpered. “The notes are crude and unrefined, but this really could change the outlook for Erelandia, I HAVE to post this on my name as a techmaster, but how am I supposed to publish research made by the Horde?! They'll remove me from the guild and then TOMMIE will take over, Bow, please make sure Tommie doesn't take over, he's a big jerk--” Travis's chair was rotating so fast that it flipped over and he fell onto the floor.
“--Whoah whoah, calm down, buddy!!” Bow got up and helped Travis sit back down, giving him a hug. “You're overthinking this. Probably? I'm not sure? Maybe you won't die?”
“And why is Entrapta still sending letters? With Horde secrets?!” Travis stared at him pleadingly. “That's weird. Do you think that's weird? Am I weird for thinking that's weird?!”
Bow scratched his chin. “To be honest I think she just forgets which side is which.”
“I'm... not surprised by that, actually.” Travis sighed and fell back into his chair. “Dammit Entrapta, why did you have to join the Horde!!! This would be so much easier.”
“Hey, uhh.... at least she knows about irrigation systems now? And is sharing that with us? That... almost makes it silver lining?” Bow read the notes again. Something was missing. When he realised what, a lightbulb went off in his head.
“Travis, what proof is there that you're publishing a paper written by the Horde... when there won't be a name credited to it?”
Travis raised both eyebrows, and leaned forward on his hands, eyes piercing through Bow with sharp accusation. “Are you suggesting we plagiarize, Bow?”
“Wha-- no, of course not---”
“Do we have to re-educate you on the Ten Laws of Makers?”
“--I'm NOT PLAGIARIZING”, Bow squeaked. “there is NO NAME on the paper!!!”
“But there is literally a drawing of Entrapta on it and it's in her handwriting--?”
“That could be any random pigtailed person with, an incredibly messy writing style!!”  Bow met Travis's eyes, trying his best to calm down. “Look, we publish the submission and say it was sent anonymously, and everyone gets to learn something, and when someone asks where it came from, we have no idea, right? We suspect it was Entrapta, but can we know for sure? And we wouldn't lie, or turn away such a great submission!” Bow put his hands behind his head. “So, we are completely clean.”
Travis raised his goggles. “Bow, you are a beautiful, evil genius.”
Bow blushed and scratched his ear.

Catra trudged towards the old prison cells after a long, hard day of carrying the entire Horde. Today, Kyle forgot to put the handbrake on a tank, which crashed into a wall that everyone had to repair. It was probably Kyle. He was blamed for it anyway. It took Catra eight hours to get the materials order and manpower in to repair both the tank and the wall. How this place had survived for 30 years was anyone's guess!
She was heading to Entrapta's “lab”. It wasn't because she wanted the company of her friends, not at all! They're not her friends, they're her co-workers. Nothing more! No more friends ever again!!! It was because she needed to hand some orders over to Entrapta for the next weapons shipment. She wondered why Hordak never did any of this busywork himself. All he did most days was growl and look intimidating. Okay, yeah, it was genuinely terrifying, but still pathetic-- wait what was she doing again? Right, orders, lab.
Catra entered the lab, and as usual, Entrapta was making happy noises and spinning around in her chair, while Emily chased her, and Scorpia cheered on from the sidelines, obviously confused as to what the good news was. Catra counted Entrapta's chaotic spins in her head, and on the seventh count, she stopped the chair with her foot as it passed her by.
“I need you to focus--” Catra flinched as some kind of notebook was flopped on top of her head. She ripped it off and nearly tore it to shreds but anything Entrapta gave her had a 50% chance of being either critically important or random trash, so she checked it first. “The Makers' Magazine...? What the--” Catra flipped through the pags. “Entrapta, is this your handwriting?”
Entrapta had been staring up at Catra, vibrating with an incredible amount of potential energy which needed to be released in small burts or it would probably destroy the room. It started to leak out. “They posted my paper!!! I spent ages thinking about that!! I'm so happy they liked it---”
“This is the fright zone shower system???? You're literally sharing Horde infrastructure plans with the Rebellion?”
“Huh?” One of Entrapta's hair hands scratched the side of her face. “I didn't think the Guild was with the Rebellion. Is that a bad thing?”
Catra stared wide-eyed. “Yes??? They have a water princess? If she uses that then she can destroy our water system??”
Entrapta folded her arms. “Well that seems mean, but we'd just have to put it back together!”
Catra held back a scream.
Scorpia could see that Catra was at breaking point, so she hopped in. “Hey, I thought you did a great job! I loved the little drawings of you and Emily they were so cute! And also those plant things sound interesting?” She took the book from Catra. “Wait, did they not credit you? This was apparently sent in by 'a generous anonymous source'”.
“Aww crumbs, did I forget to write my name down again?” Entrapta shrugged with her arms and hair. “Oh well.”
“It's alright, maybe next time.”
“But hang on, that doesn't make any sense. How come Bow sent me a copy of the magazine with this?”  Entrapta produced a “thank you” note with a cute drawing of a chibi Bow waving back her.
Scorpia squealed. “That's so cute???? I didn't know Bow was an artist too! I want to draw with him some time! Oooh, maybe he has Best Friend Squad drawings I could use as reference!!!”
Then suddenly the screen at the side of the room popped on, and Catra saw Hordak's shadow looming large.
“Force Captain”, he growled, “I trust you have delivered my orders on the next shipment?”
Catra and Scorpia bowed. “Yes, Lord Hordak. I'm briefing Princess Entrapta now. We were just facing a minor distraction.”
“What sort of 'distraction'? If there is something interfering with your work, then you must remove it immediately.”
“My letter got published!!” Entrapta replied cheerfully. “I posted an article on irrigation to the Etherian Makers Guild! It was inspired heavily by your work, Hordak!”
Catra slapped both her hands hard against her face. What the hell, Entrapta? Do you want to die?
Hordak grunted and lowered his head. “Very well, I trust we can... discuss your research later. In a way that can benefit the Fright Zone.”
Entrapta smiled and nodded happily.
“If that is all, get back to work. We require seventy five cannon renovations by tomorrow morning.”
Hordak disconnected. Catra stood in place, losing the will to live.
“Fuck it”, she said. “If you all are going to let this place burn this place to the ground, I'm grabbing some snacks. Scorpia, help me get some white ration bars.”
“Roger that!!!”, said Scorpia, picking up a yelping Catra and leaving for the canteen.
Catra and Scorpia came back with a mountain of mixed ration bars and bunked the night in Entrapta's lab while she tinkered with weapons.
Entrapta spent only a few hours actually renovating cannons, because she was planning the next project to send to the Makers' Guild. She was brainstorming a way to make arrows deadlier and more aerodynamic, able to travel further with a heavier load. She added lots of drawings to make her point. Bow probably wouldn't find much of a use for a variant of the “sonic arrow” that was rocket-powered and could travel so fast it broke the sound barrier naturally, but the concept is really cool, isn't it? That's what science is about!

The official Spring outlook from NOAA has dropped with some mixed news for storm chasers. The official forecast calls for large portions of the Southern High Plains to be drier than normal this Spring.
A lot of the activity in the past several seasons has been focused on that region, which may mean this year’s different vibes are being felt even at the CPC.
There’s an above normal area on the Eastern Plains giving way to equal chances later in the Spring. It’s worth noting that even close to average rainfall can mean a busy tornado season. If you missed it, our seasonal forecast video is available on YouTube.

Hilary funsie time.
The kitties know something's up. They're being very skittery and clingy.
So, here's the Hilary update.
First, if I were in better shape, I would be in the Pit of Disease known as Las Vegas. Not for the slots and mai tais, but for this:
Tumblr media
There's two a year and it's for everything from dollar store merch to custom autos and high jewelry. It's my favorite trade show. Summer is why we buy, winter is when we exhibit. I love doing both. I'm sad that I've now missed three of them. However, I have been in The Pit of Disease when a monster storm passed over and would like not to experience that again.
Here's where we are this morning.
Tumblr media
Hilary is a Category 3 this morning, with winds over 60 MPH.
Tumblr media
Here in Los Angeles, we've moved from a Tropical Storm Watch to a Tropical Storm Warning.
Watch = Possible
Warning = Imminent
Tumblr media
While Hilary has winds at 125 MPH now, going into colder water and overland is going to slow her down, assuming she slips just a little east of Los Angeles proper. This is only the most likely course for her based on current projections. If she continues up the coast, it might be a different story.
Tumblr media
This is the rainfall outlook. This is why I am worried more about the rain than the wind. The video from below is from last year after a 1.5 inch rainfall in Las Vegas.
youtube
Deserts do not immediately suck up water. Dry ground is hard ground, like the concrete of the city. The water has to go somewhere.
youtube
While the flood itself is dangerous, there's often a debris flow out in front. If there's a narrowing of the wash, then it can dam and hold back the water, making the water rise faster upstream, and when that dam breaks from the pressure of the water behind it, that water moves with accumulated force down the wash. I live on the flats, not the lowest point, but I worry about the hillsides shedding water, the concrete and the two WPA era dams in the Valley. We are looking at the potential of three to six inches of rain over 18 hours.
In 2005, the flood control measures held out, and they did the same for the 'bomb cyclones' in subsequent years. We ought to be okay.

Showers returning to Central Brazil
The wetter weather may slow down progress and push safrinha planting later into the season, which increases the risk for the crop maturing during the typical dry season in Brazil.
Tumblr media
Precipitation in the third week of January 2024, week-ending Jan. 20th, was below normal across Central Brazil while southern Brazil was wetter. This was the hottest and one of the driest third weeks of January in 30-plus years for both Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul, according to data from WeatherTrends360. Meanwhile, this was the 3rd-wettest third week of January in 30-plus years for Rio Grande do Sul.
Hot and dry conditions exacerbated the drought in Central Brazil. The continuation of a hot and dry theme in the main soybean-growing regions of Brazil has prompted several agencies to decrease soybean crop outlooks, causing upside pressure on prices.
As we move into the fourth week of January, week-ending Jan. 27th, precipitation trends are expected to reverse with drier than normal weather in Rio Grande do Sul but wetter weather in Central Brazil. This is forecast by WeatherTrends360 to be the 6th-wettest fourth week of January in 30-plus years for Mato Grosso. While the rainfall is very much needed across Central Brazil, the timing is problematic as soybean harvest and second corn crop (safrinha) planting takes place.

from most to least which factions are sticklers about rules and whatnot? which are most religious?
The Moorsweepers are hands-down the most religious. This is primarily due to their Founder’s influence, and the very culture they’ve amassed over the moons; they’re incredibly traditional, commonly devoting themselves to their factions and to the Stars. The fealty’s laws, in their eyes, is the very lifeblood of the way they live, and to break it is akin to taking a life. While they have settled and became a bit more toned-down under the rule of Magpietail, the reputation and cultural impact of years and years of that outlook is not one easily forgotten.
Next to them would be the Fenlanders, though it’s a point of bitterness between the two factions as to which is truly more devoted to their deities. They take great pride in their connection to death, the spirit plane, and their deities via living their lives exclusively in the blanket of the night when the Stars are most notable, however that’s primarily where their connection to their deities end. They don’t take such vicious stock in “the written word of law is the spoken word of the Stars” as the Moorswept is known to do, however. They are devoted to their deities, hold a great respect for death rather than a fear, and otherwise that’s it for these guys. Their rule following depends primarily on their leadership, as the cats of the Fenland faction specifically tend to be very dependent on their orators and augurs specifically. Under the reign of an augur-turned-orator, Dreamtongue definitely rules through quite a bit of religious fearmongering…
Solidly third in line, regardless of whoever comes first, are the Woodruffians. They’re pretty evenly split in the religion-and-rules category, the true middleman between the two facets. As with all the other factions, they can be swayed more towards one than the other via their leadership at any given time, but it’s very rare for the Woodruff to have equal care given to both. Rainfall is pretty heavily leaning into “law” being far more important than faith.
And coming last are the Riverwardens! They’re typically the least religious and the least strict when it comes to rules. While their general outlook does tend to depend on whoever is leading them, their culture as a whole puts more emphasis on pleasing the self rather than pleasing the whole, and that stretches to their faith and their following of fealty law. Crookedstorm doesn’t lead with any particular lean; he’s far more fluid when it comes to that sort of thing than many orators that preceded him.

Atlantic Tropical Weather Outlook issued by the National Hurricane Center in Miami, FL, USA
2024-06-13, 08:00 EDT
Tumblr media

Pecan Market Analysis: Key Trends, Market Size, and Growth Projections
The global pecan market size is projected to reach USD 1.16 billion by 2029, growing from USD 0.89 billion in 2024, at a CAGR of 5.60% during the forecast period. According to Mordor Intelligence, this growth is driven by a rising awareness of health benefits and a shift towards healthier food options.
Overview of the Pecan Market
Pecans, rich in nutrients such as vitamin C, niacin, vitamin B-6, and essential minerals like calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, and zinc, are gaining popularity due to their numerous health benefits. The growing inclination towards plant-based diets and vegan food options is also contributing to the expansion of the pecan market.
The United States and Mexico dominate the global pecan production, accounting for over 45% of the supply. The U.S. not only produces a significant portion but also leads in consumption, driven by its culinary use in traditional and modern recipes. Despite these positive trends, challenges such as adverse weather conditions can impact production and market stability.
Key Trends Shaping the Pecan Market
Increased Health Awareness: One of the significant drivers of the pecan market is the growing awareness about the health benefits associated with pecans. These nuts are known for their heart-healthy fats, antioxidants, and ability to support overall health. As consumers become more health-conscious, the demand for pecan-based products is increasing. This trend is evidenced by recent product innovations like Aloha's limited-edition Chocolate Caramel Pecan protein bar, which combines organic pecans with dark chocolate and other nutritious ingredients.
Rising Popularity in the United States: The U.S. stands out as the largest consumer of pecans, with high consumption rates in states such as California, Texas, and Georgia. The demand is driven by the versatility of pecans in various snacks, chocolates, and baked goods. Additionally, new product launches like pecan milk cater to the growing trend for plant-based alternatives, further boosting the pecan market size in the country.
Impact of Adverse Weather Conditions: Weather patterns have a substantial impact on pecan production. For instance, the severe weather conditions in 2023, including strong winds and insufficient rainfall, led to significant yield losses in major cultivation areas. Such climatic challenges contribute to price volatility in the pecan market, affecting both domestic and international prices.
Expansion of Pecan-Based Products: The market is witnessing a surge in the development of pecan-based products, driven by increasing consumer preference for plant-based and vegan options. Products such as pecan milk, pecan cheese spreads, and various snacks are becoming more prevalent. This diversification is expected to sustain the growth of the pecan market in the coming years
Key players in the market include:
The Pecan Company - Known for its innovative pecan products and diverse product range.
American Pecan Council - A key player in promoting pecan consumption and supporting growers.
Pecan Harvesters - Specializes in high-quality pecan production and distribution.
Southwestern Pecan Growers - Major grower and processor in the southwestern U.S.
Challenges and Future Outlook
The pecan market faces challenges such as climatic variability and pests, which can impact production and pricing. Addressing these issues through sustainable farming practices and technological advancements will be crucial for future growth.
Looking ahead, the pecan market trends suggest a continued expansion driven by health-conscious consumer preferences and innovations in pecan-based products. The market's strength lies in its ability to adapt to changing consumer demands and overcome production challenges.
Conclusion
The pecan market is set for significant growth, supported by rising health awareness and increasing demand for plant-based foods. With major producers like the United States and Mexico leading the charge and a growing variety of pecan-based products hitting the market, the industry is poised for a promising future.
