Change is the only constant

As the phone rang continuously even after disconnecting multiple times, I knew something was bothering Dad. "Hello Dad, what happened, I am in the middle of a meeting"...."Beta, I lost my phone again today, please get me the same model Nokia 1280"....While I insisted that he should now buy a Color phone instead, Dad was very clear that he didn't want to spend too much on a better mobile phone and secondly, he would never be able to use the Color phone(s). While returning from office that day, I went to the same Mobile shop in Parel and the shopkeeper immediately knew what I wanted since this was the 3rd time in one year that I had gone to his shop...to buy the same mobile phone model! The only difference this time was that the phone was cheaper by 100 Rs. :-) Days passed by and most of Dad's friends as well as relatives were switching to a smart-phone...most of the discussions were about "the image or video I shared last night" OR "some random CID vs. Rajnikant Jokes"....And that's when Dad started inquiring, "ye Waksupp kya hai?" (what is this Whatsapp?). While there was some amount of curiosity around smart-phones, there was also this denial that "I cant be using these phones...I wont be able to adapt at this age"... After many valiant attempts to convince him to take the plunge, Dad finally had a change of mind at the fag end of 2014... Flipkart, Amazon, Snapdeal, Vijay Sales, Croma online, TV commercials...series of scanning, debates, price wars, choice wars finally ended as we zeroed in on the #motoE available exclusively on Flipkart and priced reasonably well for the features it offered. 2nd Jan 2015: And the day arrived when my Dad's life was going to take a complete U-turn...starting with a new micro SIM card to the colorful interface to the touchscreen to the keyboard to the new world of staying connected with his friends and relatives thru "waksup"...Dad was gearing-up for the BIG LEAP! 6 months down the lane and today Dad is an expert at 'waksup'....so much so that some of the oldies seek his advice on how to use a particular feature, or how to click a photo or how to copy text from one thread to the another. People commend him for the clarity of his language (Hindi and Gujarati) and the fluency with which he writes it with English alphabets..he has truly transformed himself from being in a self-denial mode to changing with the times & keeping pace with it! What is inspiring is that at this young age of 60 he still has the eagerness to learn & being on top of things, do you agree?
