the question of fic comments is very straightforward actually. readers do not owe writers comments. writers do not owe readers fic. there is no bargain, no transaction, no debt.

fic is a gift. comments are a gift. gifts are exchanged between friends, out of love, not out of obligation.

I write for myself. I post it for others, as a gift, because their joy brings me joy. I read for myself. I comment for the author, as a gift, because their joy brings me joy. perhaps we were not friends before, but we are now, however fleetingly, because we have given each other gifts out of love.

then a teenager roasts him and he vanishes from history forever. you were probably the last of your countrymen to ever see or speak to him, the man who burned down everything you knew and loved for nothing at all. and like the second to last thing he ever said to you, right between imparting his existentialist philosophy and threatening to kill you, was that aliens are real. he didn't even pause, just said "go ask an alien" and went on with his speech like aliens existing was a baseline assumption everyone could agree on.

like sam bullshits his way through facts, so tom and luke can take joy in correcting his mistakes. but correcting aj only brings the others suffering because most of the time, aj himself doesn't necessarily believe anything that comes from his mouth. the man is just saying words recreationally. which also happens to establish the reality of the world the other three exist in.

arghhgh your analysis of jimmy is so good... it's so thematically important that he isn't a monster. he's completely disquietingly human. the game sets him up as an antihero protagonist who's making the best of the godawful hand he's been dealt and people forget that when you start your first playthrough, you believe it. jimmy's calm and collected during the crew meeting. he sticks up for daisuke when swansea insults him, even going along with his rescue fantasy. sure, he's cruel towards anya, but the player's handed the premade justification that she's supposedly completely incompetent. sure, it's implied he's torturing curly, but genre convention is surprisingly lenient towards that sort of pointless revenge. the screen even blacks out during the pill-feeding scenes - we get to look away. we're given excuse after excuse for his behaviour while every background detail screams that something's horribly wrong. mouthwashing uses its medium to instill a sense of complicity in jimmy's actions and i think its narrative does the same for curly's inaction. by the time we watch curly freeze in place as jimmy sends the ship to its death, we can't judge him without also judging ourselves. this game's writing has me in a chokehold

Dude, they're the only ones who actually read his comics, especially his Robin runs. The amount of times I saw Jason's hater making a statement about him that isn't true to most if not any canon is riddiculus And I saw the even higher amount of people arguing and disagreeing with Jason's fans over facts based on actual panels from comics

If you hate Jason for being and angry Robin who disobeyed Bruce and got himself killed you already lost an argument

If you hate Jason for being a stupid brute who stands out only because he kills people and uses guns you already lost an argument

If you hate Jason for "stealing" from other characters and not having story elements unique to his own character you already lost an argument

Jason Todd fanbase is as intense as it is because OTHER COMIC BOOK READERS AND BATFAMILY STANS DON'T READ HIS COMICS

It's really frustrating to have other fans claiming you don't know your favourite (or one of your favourites) characters when you know for a fact that you had read so much more about him. And that you have to witness his character being butchered by both the new comic writers and people in fandom over and over again

it takes the end of time by Numaix. This writer is bonkers and I have no proof they are not Maguire because they write EXACTLY like him and anyway. I am obsessed with their fics I've never read a bookverse gelphie more accurate.

The Goodness of Glinda Upland by localgaysian. Inspired by The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo which is one of my faaaavorite books ever and anyway, it's written so so well and I'm putting this Glinda under a microscope because she's not well and her thought process is SO well presented. And it has Nor!! I'm always saying more gelphie fics should have Nor.

A Thousand Universes Without Your Embrace by tinyace. Glinda travels through the multiverse and things get Weird and Meta and it's very angsty so far, which I love. Also the concepts presented are very interesting and I can tell this fic is gonna get me thinking lmfao

just a clock tick by bumblebea. Recommended to me here on tumblr :) Glinda travels back in time to the day she met Elphie. The plot is soo intriguing and very creative, and also I LOVE how the author characterizes an experienced Glinda dealing with all the act 1 events.

Side A, Side B by LaMombey. 1980s Cold War AU, set in Berlin, with Glinda as a spy. There's an action scene in chapter 2 that has not left my brain for DAYS because it was so vivid and well written. Very very interesting plot with lots of mystery and every chapter so far is such a banger.

And completed fics I read recently that I liked!

no thing that ever flew by queenofmarigolds. Recommended to me here on tumblr! Gelphie as college professors at a small college in a small town. It's so cozy and reads like a literary novel and it's soooo beautiful. I'm also putting this Glinda under a microscope, she has an avoidant attachment thing going on that makes my brain go brrrr. (Also has a Nor cameo!)

how essential to me (you have become) by ifthebookdoesntsell. Post act 2 gelphie domestic life... I want to live in this fic and study this author's writing style and then eat it, if possible. I love it so much, there's so much tenderness and LOVE and the characterization is spot on.

at night the wicked sleep alone by Small_Blue. This one was also recommended to me. Post act 2 Glinda character study! She is really going through it and she goes through it for a looooong time but reading about her journey is so satisfying and painful at the same time. Has my FAVORITE depiction of gelphie seeing each other for the first time after the melting, it felt so realistic and gutting.
