SD Gundam Gaiden Seikihei Monogatari - Chapter 6: Ominous Omen
Previous Chapter
Gunrex falls under attack by Zamared Mansa. Meanwhile, Queen Nina receives word that their entire machine soldier army has been wiped out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not only that but R-Jannon was also destroyed. At this rate, Dabat's entire force will be wiped out completely. Suddenly, the G-Griff statue breaks and reveals a fragment of a stone slab. It flies off towards the direction of Baraba Plain.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gunrex continues to be pummeled, even having GP01's head knocked against one of the sides, giving him a concussion, and distorting his vision. Before the final blow can be landed, their battle is interrupted by the merging tablets.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The G-Griff is furious that they are using Baraba Plain as a battlefield and offers them a weapon that could finish off this battle to whoever can read the spell on the tablet. Unfortunately, GP01 can't read it due to his concussion. But the text is old, so Mansa struggles.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"When the three of lights merge, the evil power will be rended in half by the shield that appears from the glowing white!" At first, GP01 assumes Mansa read it, but that isn't the case when Mansa questions who did it and the silver shield is given to Gunrex.
Tumblr media
This is because the one who read it was Red Warrior R. His family studied the ancient texts, and therefore allowed him to quickly read the spell. Mansa tries to attack him, but Gunrex protects him with the shield.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With this newly obtained power, GP01 defeats Mansa easily. However, the duo then begins to hear a bombardment coming from the far distance. At first, they assume it's from the main base but…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dabat itself is now under attack by Neo Zeon. It seems that was a trick to leave the castle unguarded, making it so they could easily be attacked.
Meanwhile, Mars meditates on the life of a mercenary as Dabat castle goes up in flames.

Paladins Chapter 11: Lost Souls
I am The Bard, who has seen that is true and worthy to remember, that gold once tarnished may glitter, and there is yet hope for the lost. For the fire refines from the cinders, and the forgotten again shall be found.
In the midst of the halfling village, several of the small folk cautiously approached, looking at the party in a mixture of awe and terror, whispering to each other in their secret tongue, which Peregrin heard and understood. “The pale queen! And that red one? The lord of fire? No stupid, the lord has wings, maybe this is his son? That goat-woman on the serpent-horse, who is she, what is she? A creation of the Cruel Ones? And the horse-lord? What manner of power was that? Those swords on the stranger-kin look familiar, where have I seen them before?” They continued this curious whispering in sideways chats, never taking their eyes from the party, especially Yndri and Kazador, looking at them with a mixture of terror and reverence.
“Err, Peregrin, I dinnae have much experience with the wee free folk, is this normal?” Kazador asked, putting away his blades and doing his best to not appear intimidating. It was unsuccessful, as there is effectively no way to make yourself not intimidating to people half your size who just watched you decisively butcher a dozen people.
“Not in the slightest, but what has been normal here?” Peregrin said to his tall friend before approaching and offering a greeting in halfling. “Don’t worry friends, we’re here to help. Those hobgoblins won’t trouble you again.”
The assembled group looked at his expectant, smiling face with suspicious, nervous faces, the faces of people who have been beaten down for so long they have forgotten how to trust. After a few tense moments, a younger man stepped forward. He appeared to be in better health than the rest, stronger of limb and brighter of eye. He bowed respectfully. “Thank you elder. And on behalf of all of us, our thanks to the Burning Lord. We are honored that he would send aid to us who so long ago rebuffed him, even sending his son.” He fell to his knees in a gesture of fealty, and the others swiftly follow suit, prostrating themselves. He spoke again in common, directed at Kazador. “Forgive us, oh Prince of Dragons, for the foolishness of our forefathers. We are your servants.”
Kazador’s reaction was strange, as they watched him take a half step back in fear. Then, as if to smother it, anger surged. The halfling flinched, clearly expecting to be burned to ashes by the wrathful dragonborn. The sight of this instantly shamed Kazador, and his anger was smothered. He composed himself, and bowed in apology. “I am no prince of dragons.” He said, placing heavy emphasis on every word. “Nor am I the son of any Burning Laird. I am Kazador Glamdring, third son of Dormir Glamdring, King Above the Gates, Bearer of the Bright Hammer, Dragonslayer, and High King of the West.”
The halflings were now equally confused, if not even more so. A dragon prince of dwarves? This was even stranger. They turned then towards Yndri. “Are you then sent by the Faerie folk? By the Suzerain of Elvir Caron? Or by the higher courts of summer?”
Yndri now shook her head. “No little one, I am a servant of Maeve, the Harvest Queen. I have never even heard of Elvir Caron.”
This further led to the final consideration, and one that clearly brought great trepidation. “Then what are you?” They asked, as if they suspected some third answer, but did not dare to speak it aloud. Such was the terror of whatever this third option was, that none dared to let it pass their lips, as if doing so might invoke it.
”We are…” Peregrin  started to respond, and then realized they didn’t really have a name for their party “Crusaders, warriors out of the south who have come to take back this land from the hobgoblins, the orcs, the gnolls, and more or less anything else evil up here.” He finished, recovering.
This dispelled the tension rapidly, and the village as a whole seemed to take a sigh of relief. Julian carefully noted more than a few of the men set down their hoes and pitchforks. Despite the battle they had just witnessed, there was something so terrible they feared they would have likely tried to fight them with nothing more than farming implements. He smiled and nodded approvingly at the gesture.
“Oh, well, ah, erm, thank you.” The younger halfling said awkwardly. “So, you’re here to get rid of the goblins from the old abbey?”
“Amongst other things, yes.” Julian responded.
“I hope there’s a lot more of you.” He said plainly “Or you’re idiots.”
“We get that a lot.” Senket responded dryly. “As for more of us, well, we’re working on that.”
“Uh huh. Well, um…” For a brief moment, a hospitable nature and a harsher nurture clashed, and Peregrin saw the conflict play out, before curiosity won out “Shall you stay for supper? Since you stopped that cart it seems we’ve got a good deal more of it.” The knight of Jaborah smiled to see that even in the harshest circumstance, the heart of a halfling shone though. With some help from Kazador and Senket, the cart was hauled back into town and unloaded.
“Couldn’t he help with this?” Yndri asked, pointing over at War Pig snuffling through the bushes in search of truffles or other delectable ruffage.
“Ye try tellin’ him that.” Kazador said, moments before War Pig wandered over behind Yndri and snorted, blasting hot air down her back and throwing her white hair in front of her face, much to Julian and the halflings’ amusement.
As the shadows fell once more across the lands, the party assembled inside a long house with a long table. Julian pulled out his spellbook and began chanting. Several of the halflings assembled to watch and were delighted as a loaf of bread is conjured before them. The nephilim smiled and reproduced the trick several times to contribute to the feast. Several singularly small halfling children become fascinated with Kazador, running around his legs, patting his scales, trying to climb into his lap, and generally tormenting the dour dragonoid, who was just trying to enjoy a flagon of ale.
“Somebody rescue me from these wee wee skuners afore I die of frustration!” He said mostly good naturedly as he picked up one child off his lap by the back of his shirt and put him down. The lad seemed entirely excited by this, putting out his arms and pretending he’s flying. Senket came to the big guy’s rescue, using her own infernal heritage to perform a series of magical tricks, summoning a crown and tossing it up in the air, only for it to vanish when the children leap for it. The child seemed most confused by this until her peers informed her that it was now upon her head, and she went down in a playful tackle. Most of the halflings seemed to shy away from Yndri, until Peregrin came over and pulled her into the center of conversation with the leader, apparently named Jok.
”So, Jok, who exactly are these folk that you mistook my friends for?” Peregrin asked good naturedly.
Despite the apparent innocence of the question, Jok’s face darkened. “Long ago, when the big folk had just passed away from the abbey, a pale elven woman with white hair and red eyes came to us. She told our forefathers that since the Abbey was gone, and the heroes were no more, that she could take us out of this land, to a fair and green place where none could harm us.. After long hours in debate, our forefathers refused. She didn’t take no for an answer, and the elves fell upon us, carrying away most of our people, and slew all our fighting men.”
“Again, some years later, another came to us, a creature of proper size, but covered in scales. At first we thought they had been struck down with some curse, or afflicted with a terrible disease, but it came before us and declared itself to be a servant of the Burning Lord, the true power of the North. It offered then a bargain, if we would serve its master faithfully, then we should be protected from all troubles. It asked not for fighting men, nor for gold, nor for food. But instead it declared that once a year, a maiden, the fairest of the village, would be delivered to the Burning Lord. When our foremothers question it as to the fate of this maiden, or what need the Burning Lord had for creatures such as ourselves, it would not answer. We smelled the stench of hell about the creature, and knew great evil would come of this bargain, and thus, we refused it. Once more it came, and once more it refused us. Then a third time they came, the Burning Lord himself appeared, landing in the midst of the village. The terror of him struck the old and the cowardly dead, and none of us could lift our faces from the ground to look upon him. We remembered only the power of his voice, the stench of his breath like sulfur, and the sound of his mighty wings. Despite all this, we refused him, expecting to be destroyed. But he simply laughed, and commended the courage of our foremothers, and then departed, never to trouble us again.”
“For a moment, we thought our troubles were over. Then, when we were weak, for the elves had slain our strongest, and taken our fairest, and all those with weak hearts were killed by the terror of the Burning Lord, others began to prey upon us. The Cruel Ones, fell creatures which came out of shadows and under the earth, legless and scaled like serpents, and wielding strange weapons and horrifying magic. They came as they wished, and carried away what they pleased, but not all of us. We nearly forgot them for a time, but twenty years later, they came again, and carried off another generation. So they tormented us for generations, coming and stealing away so many of us, but never killing us all. They farmed us, like livestock.” He spoke with great bitterness.
“All this has continued since the days of my grandfather’s grandfather. For three hundred years we have been crushed by one foe after another. Once, this village covered the whole of the hills, and the forests were fields beyond for growing all good things. There were many villages, each stretching out until they ran into one another, and the whole land was prosperous. But we have been slowly devoured, unable to do anything, unable even to flee, for none have returned from their flight. When the goblins came to the abbey, I made a bargain. Food was an easier thing to pay than my friends. But now, they take so much. Already, we were eating only once a day, growing weaker, the harvests smaller. And now, it seems they will take everything, and we will finally be destroyed.”
Peregrin heard all these words, and he wept for his people. Likewise, Senket’s sorrow was great, and she looked with sympathy upon them. But Kazador and Yndri burned with rage. The temperature about Kazador increased, and he quickly stepped away from the children, lest they be burned by the heat of his wrath. Yndri was by contrast icy death, cold anger like the promise of dark winter, the wind that flays the leaves from trees, the frost which strangles the flowers of summer. Her eyes had the cold blaze of the dark autumn behind the harvest, herald of winter, where the scythe stands behind the vanishing sun, no fields to be reaped, but reaping yet to be done. Something fey and terrible sat there, a daughter of faerie born beneath the power of the autumn court, her glory and her terror unveiled. But Julian wiped his eyes, and clenched his fists. He focused the rage and the sorrow into a purpose, a promise, a vow. “Those days are ended.” He swore. “A new day is coming, and I will bring it if I must drag the sun up myself. You will eat and be satisfied, your harvests your own, and you will sleep and be not afraid for our blades will be your shields.”
Peregrin likewise wiped his eyes, and the warm smile returned to his unflappable face. “Indeed it is so. The long night is soon to be over. I cannot know the will of the gods for certain, but I cannot deny that it seems at last, Esther has sent us, such as we are, to bring an end to your trouble. By the blades of Jaborah I swear, you will be delivered out of the hand of your enemies.” Then, his smile faded. The other halflings were looking at him in confusion. He looked back, equally confused before Jok spoke.
“I’m sorry, is this some southern tradition? I don’t believe I’ve heard of either of those.”
Peregrin’s heart turned to ice, and his hand shook. His mouth went dry, and he could not speak for dread. The words of the halfling woman those nights ago rang in his ears “It will be all at once easiest and hardest of all for you.” Indeed, how it was, in ways he could not have imagined.
Later, Senket found him, sat alone near the village’s edge. “You’re not okay, are you?” She asked, sitting down next to her smaller friend.
“No.” Peregrin replied, looking at his pipe, before he put it away. “No, I’m not, which means I shouldn’t smoke.” He sighed, and rubbed his eyes. I’m not quite enough a fool to say I should have been here, so much of this was before I was even born, but I cannot help but wish I had been. So much evil, and either nobody was there to stop it, or nobody did nearly enough to remember them.”
“We’re here now. That will have to be enough.” Senket replied.
“It will have to be. This makes things harder though.”
“You’re thinking on the goblins, aren’t you?”
“And what else he mentioned. These cruel ones, this Burning Lord, these fell elves. There is much more going on here than we realized.” He took a deep breath. “And so many of them will refuse to be better. We will have to destroy so many.”
Senket raised an eyebrow. “Even now, after all that, that’s what you’re worried about?”
“I admit it’s harder to now.” Peregrin admitted. “I want to allow myself to hate them. It would be easier to hate, easier to rage because of this evil, than to try and make things better. To try and find the best path, even though this pain, even through my own desire to let loose my blades without worrying, without mercy. But I cannot allow that path to consume me. Because it never stops. You can never kill your way into a better world. Only an emptier one.”
“There are some creatures which are evil by nature. Perhaps a world empty of them would be better, even if it were emptier.”
“Some creatures are evil by misfortune, more so than choice. Goodness isn’t inherent to anyone, it’s taught to everyone. Some places it is easier, some it is harder. But halflings are no more “naturally” inclined to be goodly folk than orcs,” then he raised an eyebrow pointedly at Senket, “or devils. We simply have food in our bellies, many friends and families, warm homes, and goodly folk around more often than most. Perhaps good gods. Perhaps simply that we have the things that make it easiest to be good. Without that, sometimes in spite of it, we can be every bit as wicked as any. So, I fear for my people. I fear for myself. That unless the will is made to incline, day by day, we may so quickly become cruel because of the cruelty of the world.”
“I do not know how much of that is true, but I am also not wise enough to tell if it is false. Perhaps except for devils, I can assure you by personal experience, that there is nothing…” Then she paused, and remembered briefly. A mother’s gentle touch. Her father, holding her close, leathery wings wrapped around her to shield her from the fear of a storm. Then as quickly as those warm memories came, painful fear. The smell of blood, broken brothers. Her father’s roaring battle cry. Her master’s thunderous smite answering.
She opened her eyes, suddenly sweating. Her fists clenched and unclenched several times. She focused herself again, repeated the mantra. “There is nothing good to be found in devils, but for their destruction.”
“Is that true?” Peregrin asked. “Or is it simply what you were taught?”
“What reason would master Arvidor have to lie to me?” Senket protested.
“Lie, perhaps none, I did not know the man, so I will give him the benefit of saying he would not lie to his students. But wrong, that any man can be.” Peregrin pointed out. “For if there were nothing good in devils, he would not have raised such a good woman as a student.”

.... It was a moment of weakness, I swear. 😅
And what started out as a simple list of headcanons may or may not have snowballed into 4 short stories of reader slapping Pillarman cake that I have been working on almost non-stop since I got the request on A03... 😳😇 Oopsie!
Pillarmen react to getting slapped in the cake unexpectedly...
(Under the cut for length!)
Tumblr media
(Warning! Do not attempt with real life Pillarmen! Slapping ancient Aztec buns may result in death...)
Kars:
It was a quiet morning at the house, which wasn't uncommon, but Kars always welcomed the silence and any and all absence of chaos. Nose deep in his book, he greeted you as you sauntered in to the room, not even bothering to lift his eyes from the text layered pages as per usual.
Always perceptive, even when distracted, it was no big feat to be able to differentiate your footsteps from the others; you being much lighter and smaller played a big part in that, of course. Though, he didn't think to wonder why you were tip-toeing like that...
He turned the page, the quiet rattle of paper breaking the silence, when he felt you right near him. The Pillarman still didn't care to tear his eyes from the sea of words he was lost in as he simply stood there, rooted to the floor.
"Hello dear one," he greeted, the timber of his deep and quiet voice floated through the Livingroom like a breeze. "if you're looking for Wamuu he's out--"
S M A C K!
The words evaporated on his tongue in a sheer instant. His blood-red eyes went wide in their sockets, unfocusing as the world around him stopped turning for just a moment.
Did you really just...?
No. He had to be mistaken.
You couldn't have--
No. You WOULDN'T have--
A pregnant and deafening moment of silence had fallen over the room, this time he all but welcomed it, only punctuated by the sound of a little giggle that managed to escape your lips.
You did.
You really just did.
Not that it hurt him; if anything he felt more the jiggle of his right cheek rather than the sting of the slap itself.
Slowly, ever so slowly, he turned his head to peer down at you; a frown tugging at the corners of his lips and etching deep lines into his fair, chiseled features. You were biting your own lip, your body shaking with suppressed giggles that tried to force their way out. You had your hands folded neatly behind your back, looking up at him with eyes best described as "innocent" as you made an attempt to hide the grin trying to force its way across your face.
You looked the very definition of smug.
Though he was displeased, he actually couldn't help but admire your bravery to be able to simply walk up and do such a thing.
Especially to him.
You must've been bored.
Really bored.
Either that or Esidisi put you up to this...
It didn't matter either way, as he fully intended to get down on your level if you wanted to pull such a stunt like that.
He shut the book that he was no longer invested in with a loud and heavy "THUD". In barely half a second, you were grabbed and thrown over his shoulder making you squawk in surprise.
"So," he began, tucking the book under his other arm and starting up the stairs. His voice was low, almost a purr, but it held an unignorable bite to it. "You like spanking, do you, little one?"
Uh oh.
UH OH.
You realized, quite belatedly, that you hadn't quite thought that through, squirming in his firm hold as he carried you all the way upstairs and right into his room.
Kars continued, you could hear the smirk in his very tone as he spoke. "Well in that case, I do hope you're prepared for one..." The door slammed shut ominously behind him. "Act like a child; you get punished like one."
You swallowed thickly at those words, a terror only best described a primal shooting through your body like lighting.
You had a feeling you weren't going to be sitting comfortably around the house anytime soon...
Esidisi:
The massive man chuckled as you hopped up and down, lips puckered like a sucker fish, almost meeting his cheek this time but just missing it as he stood up straight again.
You have been trying (emphasis on trying) to kiss him goodbye for nearly 5 minutes now.
On the norm, you made an effort to kiss all of your housemates, the Pillarmen, goodbye on their cheek every morning they went out. It became a routine for you all, or perhaps just a healthy habit on your part.
You'd kiss them goodbye as they went out doing God-knows-what for a few hours while you worked around the house; doing chores, working on courses, doing work inside at the computer or outside in the garden.
But this morning, Esidisi insisted on tormenting you.
And for his own entertainment no less.
You kissed Kars on his cheek and he patted your head. You kissed Wamuu on his cheek and he responded by respectfully kissing your hand. You kissed Santana on his cheek and he butted his head softly against yours.
And finally, you went to kiss Esidisi and he pulled away.
He laughed at your doe-eyed expression as your lips met empty air, smiling innocently down at you when you looked up at him in confusion. You blinked and tried again, only to be met with the same thing. You thought he would cut it out there but no; he was taking full enjoyment out of your determination, not to mention your reactions, as he just kept stopping you by pulling away or pushing you at arms length.
At this point, he was really milking it.
"Oh c'mon, Esidisi!" You whined, starting to get a little frustrated.
You stood on your toes, standing as taught as a bowstring as you held onto one of his massive and muscular arms, trying to peck his cheek. He refused to comply, grinning and standing at his full height; which was inevitably well out of your reach.
"Oh, but this is fun, my sweet little Human." He laughed, tapping his cheek almost invitingly. "Keep up. Maybe you'll get it if you jump just a little higher."
Kars rolled his eyes, folding his arms over his broad chest. He and the others had also been watching this display for almost 5 minutes now.
"Esidisi, come on and get it over with." The purple-haired Pillarman sighed, his amusement towards these antics long gone at this point. "We're burning daylight."
Esidisi let out a sigh, rolling his own eyes. "Alright." He said, leaning down to your level with a smirk.
You pursed your lips, that gleam in his eye told you what exactly he planned to do and that plan was to pull away one final time, just to get your goat before he left so he could have a good laugh about it like the bastard you knew he could be.
Unfortunately for him; you were one step ahead of him.
Like lightning, you pressed a kiss into the palm of your hand and threw your arm back, swinging it to smack your smooched hand it as hard as you could against his bare asscheek.
C R A C K!
The sound was almost like a gun going off.
Silence fell over the room, Esidisi's eyes were as wide as saucers and his cheeky (tee-hee) expression was now nowhere to be found.
"There." You spat, your own cheeks burning hot, the feeling spreading all the way back to your ears. "That's a cheek I can reach." Clenching your hands into fists, also trying to hide the fact one of your hands was stinging like fire, you stomped out of the room.
Finally, you could get a start on the chores you needed to get done for the day.
Even though, you knew it hurt your hand more than it hurt his bum; it was worth it. Esidisi had been the one to teach you a very important lesson to live by, after all; "Don't get mad; get even.".
Kars laughed lowly, Santana smirking as Wamuu hid a grin behind his hand; all of them watching you make your proud departure. Esidisi watched you go, bug-eyed and holding a hand gingerly against the cheek you had smacked.
"They certainly showed you, Esidisi." Kars chuckled.
Wamuu:
Training with Wamuu was definitely fun.
He was very encouraging; tempering you with praise as you pushed yourself and ensuring you weren't overdoing it. But once in a blue moon, once he decided that you had become substantially stronger and your lessons were becoming to easy for you, he upped the intensity a little.
Making it just a little less than fun for you at those times, of course.
Today in particular, you found yourself on the ground more than on your actual feet.
"Wamuu..." you panted, trying to force yourself up after he pushed you down for seemingly the millionth time that afternoon. "...I--... I'm..."
The warrior however, was having none of it.
Folding his arms, the green of his double-ringed eyes burned like glittering emeralds. "Try again, little one." He said, his voice soft but stern. "You must remember to apply what I have taught you; if you rush, it will only open yourself to be knocked down first."
Today, he presented you with the challenge of trying to pin him and needless to say, it was going just about as easy as it sounded.
He watched as you shakily got to your feet, huffing and puffing. It made his heart swell every time the undeniable gleam of ferocity in your eyes caught his, a fine warriors trait in his own opinion. He took stance, spreading his legs as he hunched his back, keeping himself open and ready to defend. You came at him, like you had done several times prior, grabbing onto him and trying to find a foothold only to be swatted away easily like a house fly.
A few more tries (resulting in a few more throwdowns) and Wamuu finaly decided that you were finished for the day.
"You are too tired to continue," he hummed, peering down into your face where you lay with your back to the ground.
His huge hands slipped under you, gently picking you up almost like a Mother would her babe, and setting you on your feet. He cupped your chin to peer into your eyes as you still tried to force breath into your burning lungs, evaluating what remainder of strength you had left. "I do believe that is enough for today, my little warrior."
He turned away from you, walking only a few feet away to the change of clothes sitting along with the items you had brought along with you laying idle on the ground. You watched, still dazed and incredibly tired as he bent over to pick up your things for you, still talking away.
"You must also try to remember to strike your opponent where and when they are vulnerable," he spoke as he busied himself. "Look for any given opportunity to gain advantage at any given time."
Focusing was hard enough when you were this exhausted, however, it was downright impossible when you were on the receiving end of a view like this.
It never really bothered you that the Pillarmen chose to walk around half-naked the majority of the time but right now, with those two bronze globes in your line of vision and shinning in the sun, a wicked idea formed as his previous words echoed throughout your tired mind.
'Strike when vulnerable, huh?' You thought to yourself, settling your eyes on the prize.
Maybe it was time for a little payback for him being so relentless with you today.
Slowly, you sauntered right up to him until you stood directly behind the massive warrior. With the sun at his back, there was no shadow for you to accidentally step on and set him off; so it was safe for you to get as close as you liked...
Completely none-the-wiser of your only half-thought out scheme, Wamuu continued. "Perhaps tomorrow we can--"
W H A C K!
Wamuu's eyes swole to an impossible size and whatever suggestion he was about to make was lost as the words got stuck in his throat.
It was only then, when you caught sight of the little red hand print that was left behind on his buttcheek, you realized to the full extent of what you had just done.
"...uh." You broke the deafening silence that had fallen between you two. "Uh-oh..."
"A charming observation, little one." He said, rising to his full height and turning to face you. The red in his cheeks made it hard to tell where the lines of his warpaint began and ended.
If you weren't fearing for your very life in that moment, you would have laughed seeing him so very embarrassed for the first time ever. Also, if you weren't so very exhausted from being tossed around like a rag doll, you would be running for the hills right now seeing the fire burning in his eyes.
"Since you have applied the knowledge of todays leason so easily, I have now decided that tomorrow we are going to be doing some very extensive training." He said, making your stomach drop as his lips slowly curled into a little smirk. "Specifically training on the art of sneak attack, since you are so very keen on it as it is..."
Oh...
You were starting to wish you had accidentally stepped on his shadow instead...
Santana:
You were starting to wonder if he forgot how to sit down, watching him stalk out of the room again barely even a minute after he entered it out just out of the corner of your eye.
You supposed you couldn't blame him however, as you were getting quite restless as well.
It was the dead of winter and of course it was very, VERY cold out. The snow had piled up so high outside there really wasn't a lot to do in the yard or the ability to go anywhere in it at that. And on top of those things to only make it worse; it was snowing again today.
Your eyes turned to the window, gazing out to the thick white out storm raging outside with no sign of stopping.
However when the storm finally stopped, which would be tomorrow at best, you planned on going outside to shovel out the driveway (for the 2nd time that week) and burn off some energy. But for now, you and your Pillarmen housemates, were stuck inside.
You knew the weather was bad when even an ultimate lifeform had no interest in going out in it.
You sighed, picking up your mug and finishing the last mouthful of your tea as you set down your book, you just couldn't seem to get into it today. You were just as bored as Santana was but you weren't driven to restlessly pacing.
Here he came again, back into the room. He was walking a little hunched over, arms loose at his sides, his face radiating with gloom and boredom. He had taken a nap already this morning and he had spent the last few hours flicking through the channels on T.V before it finally bored him enough to drive him to... this.
It made you feel a little sad to see him so very dejected.
Santana tred right up to the big window next to your chair, stopping and pressing his forehead up against the glass to watch the endless swirl of white with glazed eyes.
You smiled sadly, "Bored?" You happened to already know the answer however.
He hummed in response, his shoulders slumping visibly.
Santana wasn't very talkative on the norm but today he had barely even said one word, only worrying you further.
He stood there silently for a few minutes, watching the snow dance in crazed little circles. You hoped he would maybe go upstairs and have another nap or check in on one of the others and see what they were up to but no, poor Santana let out one more deep and heavy sigh and went right back to his restless pacing from room to room.
As you watched him depart from the livingroom (again) you decided that you had enough of this. You needed something to spur a reaction in him, which was difficult in itself.
Santana wasn't very ticklish (you had tried that before) so that was out of the question, nor did he take much interest in watching something funny online as he didn't quite understand half of the jokes and memes, there was also nothing interesting on the T.V and the signal kept fuzziness in and out due to the storm. You mulled over the very little options on what could possibly get him to cheer up or at least distract him from his pure, object boredom.
At last, that lightbulb went off over your head as he trod past you one more time.
Oh, this was bad and you knew it.
But really, you could only blame whatever outcome this would bring on your own devious curiosity.
With only a seconds hesitation, your hand outstretched and swung, just as he passed, skin hitting skin hard as hand collided with bottom.
S L A P!
Santana stopped the very second it happened, his posture suddenly making a very dramatic change as he stood as stiff as possible, some of his hair standing on end.
After a long second, he turned to look at you, puzzled and just a little wide eyed.
"What...?" Was all he could say, blinking slowly. He realized, belatedly, that you had slapped him on his rear.
Both of you stared at each other for another long moment, him staring questioningly and you sitting there, nursing your stinging hand, looking quite innocent.
Santana blinked as you started to laugh a little, his dumbfounded reaction only fueling more laughter to bubble out of you helplessly.
Mission accomplished at least, as you had now definitely distracted him from his boredom, that was for sure.
Santana put his lips together, tilting his head to the side as he pondered why you had just done that and why you were just simply laughing about it. He blinked again as specific dots connected in his head.
Where you trying to wrestle with him?
As a child, many (MANY) years ago, when he or Wamuu wanted to initiate some sort of play-fight, one of them would simply walk up to the other and give them a shove or a slap. Then, if the other was in a similar mood, the other would push or hit back and confrontation of the like would go back and forth until eventually escalating into a full on wrestling match.
A slow smile crept across his lips, making you feel a strange mixture of pure joy and overwhelming dread at the sight. Nonetheless, you clamped up and stopped laughing.
You got him to smile but the question now was, what exactly was going on in that head of his?
In a matter of seconds, he was suddenly on top of you, making you squeak in surprise. He pushed you down onto the floor, butting you softly with the two stubby horns on his head before returning the little slap you gave him on his tush to your own behind, only making you squeal at the contact.
You finally came to the realization of just what was happening, only making your smile return as your heart fluttered in excitement.
He wasn't angry, he was trying to wrestle you.
Oh, so that's how he wanted to play it, huh?
You pushed back, trying to wriggle out from under him as he kept butting his head against you. You clamored on top of him with little to no grace, "Oh, I'll show you!" You grunted, trying to butt your head against his side like he had done, making him rumble with laughter as he pushed against you.
He held back on a lot of his strength, remembering you were Human after all but indulged in pushing you down a few times, laughing even more as you cursed and grunted and wriggled as mightily as he had ever seen you do. You were thankful for all that training with Wamuu, else you probably wouldn't know the first thing about wrestling with Santana.
From the staircase, your other 3 housemates watched with some amusement, and perhaps a little surprise, as the both of you rolled and pushed and headbutted like Pillarchildren.
They honestly assumed the worst upon having heard the heavy thumps and the screams and the laughter from all the way upstairs.
Maybe snowstorms, and boring house days (and let's not forget devious curiosity), weren't so bad after all...

Kaldheim Booster Challenge
I posted this on reddit, if you’d rather check it out there, but I wanted to share it here too b̶e̶c̶a̶u̶s̶e̶ ̶i̶'̶m̶ ̶c̶o̶n̶s̶t̶a̶n̶t̶l̶y̶ ̶d̶e̶s̶p̶e̶r̶a̶t̶e̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶a̶f̶f̶i̶r̶m̶a̶t̶i̶o̶n̶.
In the third great designer search, there was a challenge to pick a set and make a booster pack full of custom cards that fit in that set. I’ve started doing this for sets since Zendikar rising, and wanted to continue that tradition here. Why am I doing this so late after the release of Kaldheim? Cause shuttup, that’s why >:(
Here’s the link to the full imgur album. There are also individual imgur links even though there are images, cause reddit doesn’t allow images directly and I’m copy/pasting from there.
Anyway, let’s get started! (Long post ahead)
Common #1:
Tumblr media
Divine Goat 3W
Creature- Goat
W, Sacrifice ~: You gain 3 life.
Whenever you cast your second spell each turn, return ~ from your graveyard to your hand.
Here’s a top down design, based on Thor’s goats that pulled his chariot and were sacrificed for food every night and reborn in the morning. Originally the recursion triggered based on Vehicles, but with two other vehicle cards in the booster including the other white common, one had to go and this was the best option, but I still liked the flavor so I went with another of white’s themes.
Common #2:
Tumblr media
Dwarven Elder 2W
Creature- Dwarf Warrior
Whenever ~ crews a Vehicle, draw a card.
2/2
The fabled white card draw. Yes, I am your savior. Your messiah. Bow before my wisdom. I could technically see this design in either white or blue, but I liked white better and white cares more about vehicles anyway. I based the costing off Stealer of Secrets. This doesn’t put itself in danger, but relies much more on deck building to activate.
Common #3:
Tumblr media
Ambusher Giant 5U
Creature- Giant Warrior
Flash
Foretell 3U (During your turn, you may pay 2 and exile this card from your hand face down. Cast it on a later turn for its foretell cost.)
4/4
Foretell works really well with instant speed, so I thought a big instant speed creature would be a good fit. Since blue has a giant tribal theme, and is one of the main colors for foretell, it was an obvious fit.
Common #4:
Tumblr media
Heated Rebuttal 1U
Instant
Counter target spell unless its controller pays 2. They can’t spend S to pay this cost. (S is mana from a snow source.)
Here’s another snow hate card. What I really wanted to do with this was discourage running snow basics where you don’t have to, and though we have the god in the set that does this I think this is an issue that’s solved with both quality and quantity. I wasn’t sure on the power level of this for standard purposes, but I’d rather this more pushed version than be too weak and have it not do anything against snow.
Common #5:
Tumblr media
Shapeshifter’s Trickery 1U
Enchantment- Aura
Enchant Creature
Enchanted creature gets +1/+0, is every creature type, and can’t be blocked.
Not too much to say here really. This is good for the tribal synergies in the set, and is just an innocuous little aura for limited. Not everything is gonna be pushing boundaries.
Common #6:
Tumblr media
Draugr Fleshchewer 1B
Snow Creature- Zombie Berserker
Whenever Draugr Fleshchewer attacks, mill two cards. If a snow card was milled this way, Draugr Fleshchewer gains menace until end of turn.
2/2
This originally worked with the “exile a creature card from your graveyard” subtheme, but I had to change this to snow and I couldn’t get a good snowy design that used that mechanic. So instead, it fuels it. I also wanted to have another card that cares about the existence of snow instants/sorceries because they were introduced this set and the number of cards that only work with snow permanent cards when they don’t have to is strange.
Common #7:
Tumblr media
Arrogant Stand 3R
Sorcery
Creatures without a boast ability can’t block this turn.
Here’s a simple little card that plays around with the flavorful space of boast. You have to be very full of yourself to stand up to the oncoming attack.
Common #8:
Tumblr media
Winterdark Ritual 2R
Snow Instant
Add three mana of any one color.
Foretell R (During your turn, you may pay 2 and exile this card from your hand face down. Cast it on a later turn for its foretell cost.)
Is the name completely on the nose? Absolutely. And I find that hilarious. This is taking advantage of the fact that foretell is payed in multiple payments to turn that into mana storage. And it’s snow, because snow rituals are new to the set, play well, and I don’t think it makes it too powerful, though this has a lot of little factors to it that might push it over the edge. Any number of them could easily be tweaked though.
Common #9:
Tumblr media
Blessing of Koma G
Enchantment- Aura
Enchant creature
Enchanted creature has “T: Add one mana of any color.”
2, Sacrifice ~: Draw a card.
This card is secretly also a snow card. The intention is, you can enchant snow creatures with it to get extra snow mana. However, it’s not snow itself because a) I thought that made for a cool moment of discovery and b) If it was snow, a lot of players would mistakenly think the mana is snow whether or not the creature it enchants is.
Common #10:
Tumblr media
Boulderskin Troll 3G
Creature- Troll Warrior
When ~ dies, search your library for a Forest or Mountain card and put it onto the battlefield tapped. Shuffle your library.
3/2
I really wanted this card to be red. See, the legend goes that when a troll goes out in the sun it turns into rock and I thought tutoring for a Mountain when it died would be a good way to do that. However, I just couldn’t find a good way to do that which felt red, so I had to make this green. Luckily red/green are the troll colors so it could still find a mountain. I specifically chose nonbasic so that it could synergize with the snow duals at common.
Uncommon #1:
Tumblr media
Immerstrum Berserker 3BB
Creature- Demon Berserker
Boast- 2B: ~ gains lifelink until end of turn. (Activate this ability only once each turn and only if this creature attacked this turn.)
Boast- 1B: Each opponent discards a card. (You may activate both boasts in a single turn.)
5/3
It has two boasts. Ya know how most creatures only have one boast, if any? Well not this, it has two. That’s it. That’s the design.
Uncommon #2:
Tumblr media
Master Shipcrafter 1R
Creature- Dwarf Artificer
1R: ~ gets +2/+0 until end of turn.
Whenever a creature you control crews a Vehicle for the first time each turn, that Vehicle gains that creature’s activated abilities until end of turn.
0/2
There’s this weird tension in the set where R/W both encourages you to play a lot of vehicles, and has a lot of boast creatures, which do not work well at all together. This card is an attempt to fix that. Originally it just worked with boast, #notallactivatedabilities, but that was an extremely narrow card so I widened the scope. There’s certainly some weird combos you can do with this, but nothing too bad in limited though.
Uncommon #3:
Tumblr media
Ring of Kinship 2
Artifact- Equipment
Equipped creature gets +1/+1
Creature spells you cast that share a creature type with equipped creature cost 1 less to cast.
Equip 1
I’m a big fan of equipment and auras that have a universal effect that cares about a quality of the equipped creature. I dunno why, but it tickles me. Creature type is a good thing to care about on designs like this though, and I wanted both an equipment and a tribal reward in the booster, so it was a good fit.
Rare:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kvasha, God of Magic 3UU
Legendary Creature- God
Flying
When ~ enters the battlefield, create a 1/1 white Spirit creature token with flying for each enchantment you control and each enchantment card in your graveyard.
Sacrifice a Spirit: You may cast spells as though they have flash this turn.
Kvasha’s Birth 2GW
Enchantment- Saga
I, II: Until your next turn, whenever ~ or another enchantment enters the battlefield under your control, draw a card.
III: Mill six cards. Exile ~ then return it to the battlefield face-up.
I’m genuinely really sad they didn’t do a god with a saga as its backside, it could have been really cool. So I made one myself!! I wanted it to at least be feasible as a commander for a Saga deck, and since Kaldheim has a lot of enchantments running around I figured it could use an enchantress like this. The tricky part was, I had to make a blue card that could also feasibly be a selesnya card, since the saga turns into it. It also works well with the tribal themes and the spirit subtype in the set, though that’s more of a bonus than anything else. If you’re wondering why this card looks different, that’s for two reasons. One, I can’t make Sagas on MSE. And two, this overlapped nicely with the Inventor’s Fair contest of the week on tumblr, which I use mtg.design for since it’s easier to get links that way. (Check them out! @inventors-fair That contest is what finally pushed me to finish this booster).
Basic:
Tumblr media
Snow-Covered Swamp
Snow Land- Swamp
T: Add B.
Look, it's a snow-covered swamp. I needed a snasic in here. I dunno what else you want from me.
So there we go!! Finally!! The booster challenge that took weeks longer than it should have. What do you think of the designs? Do you think they would fit well within Kaldheim? If not, how could I fix them? Also I probably made a formatting mistake somewhere in here so if you notice like, a wrong link or something let me know. Also, if you want me to tackle an old set feel free to request it, though since this took me weeks for some reason I can’t make any promises lol.
Here’s boosters I’ve done before:
- Zendikar Rising: Reddit
- Commander Legends: Reddit // Tumblr

Set/Seth/Suetekh
Egyptian God of the Desert, Storms, Disorder, Violence, War, Chaos, Fire, Trickery, Envy, Storms and Foreigners
Set, also known as Seth and Suetekh was the brother of Osiris, Isis and Horus the Elder, uncle to Horuc the Younger, and Brother-Husband to Nephthys. His other consort was the goddess Tawaret, a hippo-headed deity who presided over fertility and childbirth. He is one of the first five gods created by the union of Geb (Earth) and Nut (Sky) after the creation of the world. His name is usually translated as "Instigator of confusion" and "Destroyer" and he was associated with Disorder, Foreign Lands and People, and the color red. He is sometimes depicted as a red-haired beast with a forked tail and cloven hooves or a shaggy red dog-like beast known as a sha (or, to modern-day scholars, as the Set Animal) which some scholars claim was modeled on the Saluki breed while others maintain was a purely mythological creature. Imagined speciffically to represent Set whose other symbols were The Griffin, Hippopotamus, Crocodile, and Tortoise (Though he was primarily associated with the serpent). Other Names He was often called were "Lord of the Desert" and "Ruler of the South" as he was originally a god of Upper Egypt (the south) and the barren lands beyond Egypts borders.

Wisdom 18:14-16,19:6-9
The Red Sea became an unimpeded way
When peaceful silence lay over all,
and night had run the half of her swift course,
down from the heavens, from the royal throne, leapt your all-powerful Word;
into the heart of a doomed land the stern warrior leapt.
Carrying your unambiguous command like a sharp sword,
he stood, and filled the universe with death;
he touched the sky, yet trod the earth.
For, to keep your children from all harm,
the whole creation, obedient to your commands,
was once more, and newly, fashioned in its nature.
Overshadowing the camp there was the cloud,
where water had been, dry land was seen to rise,
the Red Sea became an unimpeded way,
the tempestuous flood a green plain;
sheltered by your hand, the whole nation passed across,
gazing at these amazing miracles.
They were like horses at pasture,
they skipped like lambs,
singing your praises, Lord, their deliverer.
The Word of the Lord

Luke 18:1-8
The parable of the unjust judge
Jesus told his disciples a parable about the need to pray continually and never lose heart. ‘There was a judge in a certain town’ he said ‘who had neither fear of God nor respect for man. In the same town there was a widow who kept on coming to him and saying, “I want justice from you against my enemy!” For a long time he refused, but at last he said to himself, “Maybe I have neither fear of God nor respect for man, but since she keeps pestering me I must give this widow her just rights, or she will persist in coming and worry me to death.”’
And the Lord said ‘You notice what the unjust judge has to say? Now will not God see justice done to his chosen who cry to him day and night even when he delays to help them? I promise you, he will see justice done to them, and done speedily. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find any faith on earth?’
The Gospel of the Lord
R/ Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Readings for the memorial
There is a choice today between the readings for the ferial day (Saturday) and those for the memorial. The ferial readings are recommended unless pastoral reasons suggest otherwise.
First reading
Proverbs 31:10-13,19-20,30-31
A perfect wife - who can find her?
A perfect wife – who can find her?
She is far beyond the price of pearls.
Her husband’s heart has confidence in her,
from her he will derive no little profit.
Advantage and not hurt she brings him
all the days of her life.
She is always busy with wool and with flax,
she does her work with eager hands.
She sets her hands to the distaff,
her fingers grasp the spindle.
She holds out her hand to the poor,
she opens her arms to the needy.
Charm is deceitful, and beauty empty;
the woman who is wise is the one to praise.
Give her a share in what her hands have worked for,
and let her works tell her praises at the city gates.
Responsorial Psalm
Psalm 127(128):1-5
O blessed are those who fear the Lord.
O blessed are those who fear the Lord
and walk in his ways!
By the labour of your hands you shall eat.
You will be happy and prosper.
O blessed are those who fear the Lord.
Your wife will be like a fruitful vine
in the heart of your house;
your children like shoots of the olive,
around your table.
O blessed are those who fear the Lord.
Indeed thus shall be blessed
the man who fears the Lord.
May the Lord bless you from Zion
all the days of your life!
O blessed are those who fear the Lord.
Gospel Acclamation
Jn13:34
Alleluia, alleluia!
I give you a new commandment:
love one another just as I have loved you,
says the Lord.
Alleluia!
Gospel
Matthew 25:31-46
I was naked and you clothed me; sick, and you visited me
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘When the Son of Man comes in his glory, escorted by all the angels, then he will take his seat on his throne of glory. All the nations will be assembled before him and he will separate men one from another as the shepherd separates sheep from goats. He will place the sheep on his right hand and the goats on his left.
‘Then the King will say to those on his right hand, “Come, you whom my Father has blessed, take for your heritage the kingdom prepared for you since the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you made me welcome; naked and you clothed me, sick and you visited me, in prison and you came to see me.” Then the virtuous will say to him in reply, “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you; or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and make you welcome; naked and clothe you; sick or in prison and go to see you?” And the King will answer, “I tell you solemnly, in so far as you did this to one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it to me.”
‘Next he will say to those on his left hand, “Go away from me, with your curse upon you, to the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you never gave me food; I was thirsty and you never gave me anything to drink; I was a stranger and you never made me welcome, naked and you never clothed me, sick and in prison and you never visited me.” Then it will be their turn to ask, “Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty, a stranger or naked, sick or in prison, and did not come to your help?” Then he will answer, “I tell you solemnly, in so far as you neglected to do this to one of the least of these, you neglected to do it to me.”
‘And they will go away to eternal punishment, and the virtuous to eternal life.’

First reading
Ephesians 3:14-19
May Christ live in your hearts through faith
I pray, kneeling before the Father, from whom every family, whether spiritual or natural, takes its name:
Out of his infinite glory, may he give you the power through his Spirit for your hidden self to grow strong, so that Christ may live in your hearts through faith, and then, planted in love and built on love, you will with all the saints have strength to grasp the breadth and the length, the height and the depth; until, knowing the love of Christ, which is beyond all knowledge, you are filled with the utter fullness of God.
Responsorial Psalm
Psalm 22(23):1-3a,4-6
The Lord is my shepherd: there is nothing I shall want.
The Lord is my shepherd;
there is nothing I shall want.
Fresh and green are the pastures
where he gives me repose.
Near restful waters he leads me,
to revive my drooping spirit.
The Lord is my shepherd: there is nothing I shall want.
He guides me along the right path;
he is true to his name.
If I should walk in the valley of darkness
no evil would I fear.
You are there with your crook and your staff;
with these you give me comfort.
The Lord is my shepherd: there is nothing I shall want.
You have prepared a banquet for me
in the sight of my foes.
My head you have anointed with oil;
my cup is overflowing.
The Lord is my shepherd: there is nothing I shall want.
Surely goodness and kindness shall follow me
all the days of my life.
In the Lord’s own house shall I dwell
for ever and ever.
The Lord is my shepherd: there is nothing I shall want.
Gospel Acclamation
Jn15:9,5
Alleluia, alleluia!
Remain in my love, says the Lord;
whoever remains in me, with me in him,
bears fruit in plenty.
Alleluia!
Gospel
John 15:1-8
I am the vine, you are the branches
Jesus said to his disciples:
‘I am the true vine,
and my Father is the vinedresser.
Every branch in me that bears no fruit
he cuts away,
and every branch that does bear fruit
he prunes to make it bear even more.
You are pruned already,
by means of the word that I have spoken to you.
Make your home in me, as I make mine in you.
As a branch cannot bear fruit all by itself,
but must remain part of the vine,
neither can you unless you remain in me.
I am the vine,
you are the branches.
Whoever remains in me, with me in him,
bears fruit in plenty;
for cut off from me you can do nothing.
Anyone who does not remain in me
is like a branch that has been thrown away – he withers;
these branches are collected and thrown on the fire,
and they are burnt.
If you remain in me
and my words remain in you,
you may ask what you will
and you shall get it.
It is to the glory of my Father that you should bear much fruit,
and then you will be my disciples.’

First reading
Genesis 3:9-15,20
'The offspring of the woman will crush your head'
After Adam had eaten of the tree the Lord God called to him. ‘Where are you?’ he asked. ‘I heard the sound of you in the garden;’ he replied ‘I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid.’ ‘Who told you that you were naked?’ he asked ‘Have you been eating of the tree I forbade you to eat?’ The man replied, ‘It was the woman you put with me; she gave me the fruit, and I ate it.’ Then the Lord God asked the woman, ‘What is this you have done?’ The woman replied, ‘The serpent tempted me and I ate.’
Then the Lord God said to the serpent, ‘Because you have done this,
‘Be accursed beyond all cattle,
all wild beasts.
You shall crawl on your belly and eat dust
every day of your life.
I will make you enemies of each other:
you and the woman,
your offspring and her offspring.
It will crush your head
and you will strike its heel.’
The man named his wife ‘Eve’ because she was the mother of all those who live.
Responsorial Psalm
1 Samuel 2:1,4-8
My heart exults in the Lord my Saviour.
My heart exults in the Lord.
I find my strength in my God;
my mouth laughs at my enemies
as I rejoice in your saving help.
My heart exults in the Lord my Saviour.
The bows of the mighty are broken,
but the weak are clothed with strength.
Those with plenty must labour for bread,
but the hungry need work no more.
The childless wife has children now
but the fruitful wife bears no more.
My heart exults in the Lord my Saviour.
It is the Lord who gives life and death,
he brings men to the grave and back;
it is the Lord who gives poverty and riches.
He brings men low and raises them on high.
My heart exults in the Lord my Saviour.
He lifts up the lowly from the dust,
from the dungheap he raises the poor
to set him in the company of princes
to give him a glorious throne.
For the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s,
on them he has set the world.
My heart exults in the Lord my Saviour.

Gospel
Matthew 1:1-16,18-23
The ancestry and conception of Jesus Christ
A genealogy of Jesus Christ, son of David, son of Abraham:
Abraham was the father of Isaac,
Isaac the father of Jacob,
Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers,
Judah was the father of Perez and Zerah, Tamar being their mother,
Perez was the father of Hezron,
Hezron the father of Ram,
Ram was the father of Amminadab,
Amminadab the father of Nahshon,
Nahshon the father of Salmon,
Salmon was the father of Boaz, Rahab being his mother,
Boaz was the father of Obed, Ruth being his mother,
Obed was the father of Jesse;
and Jesse was the father of King David.
David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah’s wife,
Solomon was the father of Rehoboam,
Rehoboam the father of Abijah, Abijah the father of Asa,
Asa was the father of Jehoshaphat,
Jehoshaphat the father of Joram,
Joram the father of Azariah,
Azariah was the father of Jotham,
Jotham the father of Ahaz,
Ahaz the father of Hezekiah,
Hezekiah was the father of Manasseh,
Manasseh the father of Amon,
Amon the father of Josiah;
and Josiah was the father of Jechoniah and his brothers.
Then the deportation to Babylon took place.
After the deportation to Babylon:
Jechoniah was the father of Shealtiel,
Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel,
Zerubbabel was the father of Abiud,
Abiud the father of Eliakim,
Eliakim the father of Azor,
Azor was the father of Zadok,
Zadok the father of Achim,
Achim the father of Eliud,
Eliud was the father of Eleazar,
Eleazar the father of Matthan,
Matthan the father of Jacob;
and Jacob was the father of Joseph the husband of Mary;
of her was born Jesus who is called Christ.
This is how Jesus Christ came to be born. His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph; but before they came to live together she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. Her husband Joseph; being a man of honour and wanting to spare her publicity, decided to divorce her informally. He had made up his mind to do this when the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, ‘Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because she has conceived what is in her by the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son and you must name him Jesus, because he is the one who is to save his people from their sins.’ Now all this took place to fulfil the words spoken by the Lord through the prophet:
The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son
and they will call him Emmanuel,
a name which means ‘God-is-with-us.’
