specifically talking about the tweet - is this an example of the fallacy of relative privation?
Thank you for running this blog.
Yes! The fallacy of relative privation attempts to make something seem better or worse by comparing it to the best case or worst case scenario.
It is an unfortunately common fallacy on the internet and in real life, either being used like "nothing matters compared to the The Issue" or "that issue is not as bad as The Issue so it's completely unimportant" or some variation as such. (And as someone who's dealt with chronic illness I can tell you it's definitely bullshit- the fact I didn't have one of the common diseases people fear did not make my life any less in danger but that didn't stop people from trying to cheer me up by "at least it's not"s)

"Then you should understand people choosing the bear"
I'm a sexual assault survivor. When I was 15, a 55-year-old woman assaulted me and three of my friends at a party where she served a bunch of 15-year-olds alcohol. Way to go Granny.
And I don't hate women. I've stepped in to defend women against attacks from men in city streets or bars. I can't say if they're all sexually related or sexually motivated - they probably were.
But when we get to the question of this, I mean, like I do empathize for victims. I get that.
But the question isn't real. And we all know the question isn't real. It's hypothetical.
I was just at a store. There are hundreds or thousands of people at this Walmart, men and women walking around, doing their thing minding their own business. Not a single woman in there was shifty eyed, dysphoric or afraid of any of the men in that store.
I was just at a restaurant. I was at a bank. I was at a coffee shop. I was walking through a park. No one was afraid of men.
Replace any of those men with one bear and see what happens.
So, because we know it's hypothetical, let's have an adult conversation. Ready?
The existence of the question at all creates bias against men. I can trick you just the same way. I'd say, what do you think more Islamic men use to murder their wives with, guns or knives or rope?
The fact that I asked the question, you go, well why is he asking that question? Do they murder their wives a lot?
The queston is: safety, bear, man, alone. Right, those are the four real words in that question. It is embedding a bias against men. Every woman that has answered that question "bear" has stepped out in public since, has interracted with hundreds of men. The average woman will interact with 300 men per day.
Maybe they'd opted for the bear just cause they wanna mix it up. They're like, I'm getting so bored with the thousands of men that I see every week that maybe I just wanna see a bear.
I don't think you understand the gravity of this question. As a abuse survivor, I'm standing up against a false claim against the nature of men, where one in a thousand men - or maybe just a hair over one in one thousand men - will commit a crime of this nature. It's a very thin number of men.
And as a man whose family was responsible for starting World War I - you know, the assassination by the Black Hand, the Archduke Franz Ferdinand, my family paid for that assassination. We started World War I, which is why World War II happened. Because I'm so closely tied to that genocide, I've studied it.
And, Hitler and the Germans use the same type of questionings and comparative logic to wage war against Jews. I am literally trying to stop thousands of women who don't know any better but than to participate in a trend from creating this wave of propaganda against men.
Someone is trying to use this question against men, and women think it's a cool, dramatic way to say, "I'm afraid of men." But they're really actually not afraid of men. Cause they wouldn't go outside. They wouldn't go shopping. They wouldn't walk through the park. They wouldn't do anything. They'd be so actually mortified of men.
The question appeals to a logical fallacy called the Fallacy of Relative Privation. They're trying to say that because a single man could do more harm than a single bear, that all men are more dangerous than all bears on average. Regardless of the context of the interaction. That strips away all sense of goodwill or truth to the fact that women interact with 300 men per day on average. That strips away the truth that a woman, per male exposure, if you walk down the sidewalk and you see a guy, you have a 1 in 35 million chance of being forcibly [g]raped in that walk by on the sidewalk.
That Fallacy of Relative Privation strips all logic to the fact that men are, by and large, safe. But yeah, 81% of women will report being sexually harassed or assaulted. 43% of men just the same.
The number of people who will experience unwanted sexual contact, men and women, are roughly the same[**]. Men will underreport at three times the rate of women. Men are victimized just as much, but we're stigmatized against talking about it.
Both sides are victims, but men are not doing this campaign to smear women to try to damage the entire, like, gender of women.
Except for me, now. I'm doing what's called logical parallels. My whole argument for the last two weeks has been such: since women assault children, their children, their biological kids at 2.5 times the rate that all men assault women sexually, then women should lose custody of their kids until they stop it. Because, the phrase going around online right now is all men until no men. So, until no women, all women. Women do not deserve custody of their biological kids if any of them are capable of harming a child. Because children are innocent and honestly, all parallels aside, it's the abuse of children that is propagating people who are becoming monsters later on in life.
So, if anyone could make a decision right now to make the world a better place in the next 15 years, it's women not abusing their kids. It's already too late for us as adults. We're already screwed. We all have our trauma that we have to work through, and that's gonna be a dog fight. But if we wanna guarantee the world's gonna be a better place, let's stop abusing kids.
So, the reason why women are choosing the bears is cause it's not a real question and they won't have consequences if they answer in a dramatic way for effect.
Just like the 30-something percent of boys are like, well, dude, if like, there's no consequences, I'd totally take advantage of a chick. See, yeah, maybe people are bad people by nature, but people still obey the law. And that's why if 32% of college men would commit SA if there's no consequences, but then only one out of every thousand men will commit that crime, that shows how much people have discipline over their nature.
And you cannot say the same thing about a bear.

Ethan has spent the majority of his adult life travelling around the world living in safehouses with his coworkers and I think that would give him a very warped perception of the division between private and public space. like he essentially lives with the people he works with, does not have a stable address or schedule, and - given that a lot of the safehouses look like they have shared sleeping quarters - effectively no privacy. and just like his job is 80% improvising I feel like his own ‘domestic’ schedule (sleeping showering etc) has to also be done ad-hoc whenever he has a moment of free time. like in Fallout he naps in the back of the van with Lane chained up next to him lol. so feasibly this means there is a scenario in which he just starts brushing his teeth during a mission briefing

Thinking about slut cat boy max and his just need to get railed by brocedes!!! Do they ever take him to work? Does he like toto?
he's got one thing on the brain (besides eating plants)
he's pretty well behaved when he goes to work with them! it's not often, and he's very rarely spotted on race days (loud noises, busy environment, not much time with nico and lewis = stressed catboy) but sometimes he comes to the factory on development days.
he does like toto! he hangs out in his office occasionally because there's a good amount of sunlight, and toto will occasionally reach over and pet his ears.

This maybe from a while back but for the Old Ford kidnapping lil Shermie and Shrimpy Stan, wouldn’t that just traumatize Stan because Ford looks like Filbrick?
And a guy that looks like his dad that he killed, stalking him and Shermie?
I have a feeling that wouldn’t go very well
Selfish Shellfish AU - Masterpost
Hey, @emiliens I got an ask for you.
At least I think it's referring to Emilien's drabble HERE about the Shrimp getting kidnapped by an older Ford, where the Shellfish!Shermie and his Stan make a cameo.
Well, I shall leave the answer to that version to Emilien and will give you a completely different version that you definitely didn't ask for, under the cut :)
Everyone knew, Stanford Pines was the best in his field.
Need a person found? A murder to be solved? A mystery to be uncovered? Stanford Pines was your man. He was the type of guy you’d only see in movies or trashy novels; a genius master detective beyond compare.
They said there has never been a case he hasn’t solved or a person he hasn’t been able to track down, but that was a load of horse shit.
Ford cursed as he stomped through the thick forest holding his bleeding wrist. The spell needed a constant stream of fresh blood from the person you were looking for, which made it particularly useless in normal circumstances.
But these weren't normal circumstances and Ford was desperate. It’s been thirty years since he solved his fathers murder. Thirty two since he last saw his brothers.
Their disappearance has led Ford onto the path of becoming a private investigator and yet it has been the only case he has never been able to solve.
Another branch hit Ford's forehead and he groaned. This spell was a bust as well. He has been following it for weeks now, constantly bleeding out and refilling his blood supply in hope the red thread that's being created would finally lead him to his twin.
There was no doubt in Ford's mind that he was unwelcome in Stan’s life, not after how he had selfishly abandoned him with an abusive father and refused to see the signs. Because of him, because of them, Stan had been pushed to the brink and was forced to kill in order to survive.
Still, Ford needed to apologize. He needed Stan to know that they did care and that they did love him even though they failed him terribly.
And he needed to deliver the last letters Grauntie Mabel and Grunkle Dipper wrote him. Pages upon pages of unsaid apologies, packed away in tear stained envelopes.
Their family fell apart after Stan and Shermie's disappearance and they never recovered. The rift between Mabel and Dipper that had never been fully healed, just messily stapled together by a woman desperate to change everything about herself to be loved again, had reopened and nothing Ford had tried had been enough to fix it.
In the end Ford grew up in a house filled with deafening silence and regret and it was still more than he deserved. It was nothing compared to what his brothers went through.
Ford sighed and wiped away his tears. Crying never brought his brother back. It was an indulgence better suited for birthdays and especially bad nights.
He turned around, ready to call it quits and return home when he suddenly felt a twinge on his wrist. The bloody string tightened and pulled him deeper into the forest, past thick trees and thorny bushes and right into an abandoned clearing where it turned into droplets of blood. The spell broke after fulfilling its purpose, but Ford barely noticed it. His eyes focused on a red withered car in the middle of the clearing.
Stanley must be inside.
Ford tried to speak and make himself known, but all words escaped him. He took a step forward and felt blood running down his arm as his heart started to run a marathon. He felt faint.
What would Stan be doing here in the middle of nowhere inside a broken car?
Ford tried to smile. Maybe it was just a secret hideout like they had as children. If Stan would give him another chance, they could buy a boat or build one from scratch and sail away from here, far far away to a place without cars with windows made out of plastic wrap and blood dripping down  the floor.
Drip
Drip
Drip
Ford took a shaky step forward. And another. The world tilted and he crashed against the car, one hand ripping the plastic wrap on the back window apart.
A couple of minutes passed before Ford finally caught his breath and looked inside.
There they were. His brothers, all cuddled up on the backseat in a nest of pillows. Ford saw it clearly. Stan was telling Shermie fantastical stories of their adventures. Ford was jealous he missed it.
He smiled.
“There you are. I’ve been worried sick looking for you.”
The skeletal remains of his brothers stare blankly back at him.
Ford gripped the edge of the window, ignoring the sting of broken glass ripping into his flesh and opened the door.
“Right. Right. Okay. Let’s get you out of here first. It’s getting cold.”
With shaking hands Ford reached out to bring them home. The moment he touched his little brother’s body, a shiver ran down his spine and his breath began to fog.
An invisible force crashed into him and pushed him out of the car and to the edge of the clearing. The wind picked up and dark clouds filled the sky as a blurry figure positioned itself between Ford and the car.
“I SAID DON’T TOUCH HIM, PA!”, It howled through the forest and Ford's brain, which has been moving in slow motion since the moment he entered the clearing, went into overdrive.
Behind the figure, Ford made out another tiny blob peaking through the car window.
Ford grinned, then laughed as he pushed himself up. He still felt lightheaded but everything was so much clearer now. This was good. Fantastic. His brothers' souls were still around.
That meant he could fix it.
“Heh, you still pack quite the punch.” Ford laughed as the figure got ready for round two.
Why yes, this is an evil AU for THIS wonderful drabble by my beloved Shermie Anon.

Physically I'm here but mentally I'm clawing the eyes out of everyone who talks crap about their children on the internet and posts them in their most vulnerable moments for clout
#i just saw a video of a like eleven or twelve year old girl approach her mom's car when she got home from work and without even saying hello#to her kid she yelled at her to go inside so she could talk to her husband first and then shouted at the kid when she said her dad put her#through hell that day. is she probably overreacting bc shes a kid and she doesnt have get emotional regulation yet? absolutely. but also?#as the kid who knew that if i didnt get to my mom with my side of things first that my dad would twist things to make himself look like the#victim in a situation i promise you that baby girl isnt feeling heard and that would be sucky but normal on its own. the type of thing#families work through together yknow? but to post that on the internet??? to be recording when you come home knoeing there are problems in#your house and wanting to put online forever a moment in time where there are really strained relationships among members of your family??#especially when it's the relationship btwn your husband and your child??? nope. im sorry. uh uh.#that kid deserves better than that. your husband deserves better than that. everyone deserves better than to have their really vulnerable#moments shared on the internet with strangers#like. i think about how i felt as a kid when i found out my parents had told a relative something i considered private. how embarrassed and#betrayed i felt. the thought that EVERYONE would see that instead of just my dad's relatives or w/e?#bby girl im incandescent with rage#anyway#lilac rambles

so my tablet is still on its death bed buuut i had a bunch of outfits from the sims saved from my introductory posts so here's the rest of them for my hss prime and hwu mcs!! i could spend hours on cas. ive had a very productive week. totally.
vivienne: vivi's style is very much inspired by the prep movement that happened in the late 2000s - early 2010s. though it's a little more lowkey and practical (as practical as a girl can get in an plaid skirt!). browns, whites, blacks and occasional dark greens are usually the colors she chooses to wear her love for the color brown is so strong that it even transferred to her hair! common clothing choices are skirts (duh!), mary janes or heels, sweaters, barrettes, necklaces and bow motifs on her dresses. she doesn't experiment with her style a lot (preferring to play it safe) though she falls in love with legwarmers after stumbling across 2000s j-fashion blogs in 2014. when she gets older she basically almost always wears dresses, and yes, with large bows on the front.
agnieszka: her style is a lot more spontaneous. though there is some common patterns. blacks with pops of bold colors, washed out denim, belts, caps/bucket hats, tights, platformed shoes and cropped tops. her style is quite modernized which is mainly bc ts4cc for 2010s fashion is very limited but i'd like to say she was just ahead of her time. after she stopped being so financially dependant on her family she would go to thrift stores and experiment with the clothes she bought from there. she never really belonged to any subculture but this is mainly due to her lack of identity within herself (which i'll go into a whole other time). i think this is what makes her more prone to playing around with colors unlike vivi who mainly sticks to the same browns/whites. when she gets older her style does mellow out a little but it still has the exuberant edginess that her style had at hollywood u.
fun little fact but in color psychology🤓brown is associated with dependability, resilience, comfort and warmth while black is associated with mystery, strength and protection. i think this could align with their characteristics but i DO NOT want to ramble on too long. bring up color symbolizing to me and i'll ramble for hours (studying graphic design and constantly having to work on color theory has ruined my life).
+ bonus outfits!! (warm, cold, athletic and sleepwear! i didn't have any cute swimwear cc despite having 25GB of custom content. so i def need to go on an search.)

Alright, so I've made a decision - this blog will continue!
I thought about things for a day and came to the conclusion that it would be a shame to just delete this blog all-together.
I un-privated all those previous posts and removed any main tags. And I won't add any main tags in the future.
This means that this blog will only be accessible to those who seek it. Like some kind of secret underground lair, meant only for the chosen ones.
So if you see this... you're in the Secret Club B)

I think it’s fascinating that taylor has started frequently writing about mental health vis-à-vis youth and vice versa. it’s as if to convey the je ne sais quoi of youth she also has to conjoin it with conveying the human struggle

@beatingheart-bride
"We are," Doreen replied with a smile, as she began to cut into her catfish. "We briefly considered Florida, I toyed with the notion of us moving into my family's summer home there, but...I just don't think it would work out, us moving there. I'll miss it, and I'll miss my home here in New Orleans, but I think it'll be a fresh start for both of us, we're looking forward to it."
"Have you told anyone else about your engagement?" Susannah asked, as Edward nodded, "My father knows, and Belle knows. Of course we would want both of them at the wedding, but I get the feeling they'd like to do more than that..."
"We're thinking they both may try to follow us out to California," Doreen elaborated. "We don't object to the idea, of course, it's just...surprising, I suppose!
I quite love the idea...Mr. Henshaw has always been so kind to me, and Belle, well...she's more of a mother to me than my own, and so to have them both by our side as we start this new chapter in our lives...it means the world to us."
A softness had crossed Doreen's face upon saying this, and Susannah couldn't help but smile softly, her eyes beginning to glisten a little as she wrung the skirts of her dress, saying, "W-Well...I think it's going to be a-a very packed carriage then, because, w-well..."
At this, Edward's eyes widened, the beginnings of a smile tugging at the corners of his lips as he looked from Susannah to Philippe, asking, "Are you...thinking of moving to California too?"
