Remember that time my German shepherd was attacked by the neighbor dog (she's okay) and I carried this overweight beast around on pure adrenaline like it was nothing. Got her to the emergency clinic, waiting in the lobby.
Suddenly realized the that the few people that were there who missed me carrying a 98lbs dog could stop staring at me.
I looked down to realize in true horror movie fashion i had been wearing a crisp white plain oversize tee shirt that was now covered in blood. Not just my shirt, it was all over but the shirt just made it look way worse than it was. I looked like I came out of a slasher film.

Meet Padfoot!
This is Padfoot, my two year old GSD mix. I adopted him when he was about 6 months old from a shelter in my city. He is ridiculously smart, super goofy, and absolutely loves cheese. He is also reactive, people selective, and dog selective. He is my bestest boy ♡

In Baltimore City, MD: (2) very fearful shepherd mixes found as strays (reportedly did well w/ finder and other dogs) need rescue - BARCS, Baltimore MD
- Rescue Only -
Licorice (left)- 1 year, unaltered female, 60lbs
Cowtail (right)- 1 year, unaltered male, 55lbs
Licorice and Cowtail were brought to the shelter by a Good Samaritan who had found them running at large together. Their finder was kind enough to keep them in their home for three days while hoping to locate an owner, but was unable to keep them any longer than that. While in their care, Licorice and Cowtail were reportedly friendly and able to be easily handled.
Once at the shelter, Licorice and Cowtail became very fearful and attempted to hide underneath of the steering wheel of the finder's car to avoid being brought inside. Both are incredibly unfamiliar and uncomfortable being leashed and walking on a leash, but did eventually calm down with a lot of patience.
Fortunately for the both of them, Licorice and Cowtail find some amount of comfort and confidence when they're with each other. They have also interacted well with other gentle and respectful friends when off-leash in the shelter's play yard, so we think they'd likely do well, and would probably even benefit from, having other dogs in a future home.
Upon examination, our vets found that both Licorice and Cowtail have pretty dirty ears. Licorice allowed cleaning and medicating; however, Cowtail was much too frantic at the time of intake, so a more thorough ear exam is recommended to be done at a later time. Full medical summaries can be provided upon request.
Because they're both so stressed and fearful, Licorice and Cowtail have been started on a combination of behavior meds, trazodone and gabapentin, to help ease the transition into shelter life.
Licorice and Cowtail are not available for adoption through BARCS at this time and can only be placed with an approved partner rescue organization.
Please let us know if your organization can help!
Thank you,
