Who the hell is this 70s bitch?? (OC info under the cut!)
(Retro) Disturbia | She/Her | Femme Lesbian | Human | ~30? | 193 cm / 6'4" | Australian
Before Disturbia became a world famous fashion designer - she was just a simple cringefail slob busy leeching off her cousin Clayton, making very little effort to actually pursue a career in fashion design. She hates her job as a waitress at a shitty diner, and will take out all her misery on you should you be subjected to her service. She works to live at the weekend, where she can indulge in every one of her addictions (and she has most of them). Her penchant for hedonism often leads her to clash with Clayton, who detests Disturbia's lack of self-care and control. However they're also the only people weird enough to understand eachother, connecting them on a deep familial level. At this point in time, Disturbia is a far cry from her later successful self ... but everything changes when Clayton is sent to prison for her serial murder crimes, and suddenly poor old Disturbia has to strike it out alone.
Common activities/hobbies: Disturbia's main hobbies are partying and doing drugs (and to her credit, it is the 70s). However her actual hobbies include a genuine love for fashion design. She also loves photography, and has her own dark room in which to develop her film. She finds the perfect combination of these two activities in taking photos of women modelling her clothes (usually her girlfriends, or ex-girlfriends, given she's bad at keeping them for long). Setting: Set in the 70s, when Disturbia is a younger woman. She works at a shitty diner as the world's rudest waitress. Clothing style: Disturbia is thriving in the 70s, and desperately wants to dress extravagantly (think Cher). However unfortunately she is limited by her non-existent budget, and so if she wants to wear a statement piece it has to be one she has made herself from the raw materials. She'd love to be wearing a full length exquisite mink coat, however her budget only really allows for a homemade fur coat made of rabbits (Clayton caught and skinned the rabbits for her).
You can draw them with:
Clayton (cousin) - Her ever suffering cousin, Clayton and Disturbia initially seem a very strange combination given they're exact opposites. However Disturbia is entirely unbothered by Clayton's unemotional and mean personality, and is also entirely unbothered by her criminal activity. Clayton does her best to tolerate Disturbia's laziness and lack of self preservation also. They do still clash often, but they always smooth it over somehow. Forever linked by their shared interest in the macabre.
Sera (But a 70s AU version) (student) - Clayton's ever suffering research assistant, Sera occasionally runs into Disturbia. They get along pretty well (considering Disturbia is much less acerbic and much more fun than Clayton), much to Clayton's annoyance.
Additional stuff to keep in mind: This is an alternate universe version of Disturbia, because I love her too much and there is too much fun to have with her in her younger days (Also I just really like the 70s aesthetic, and 70s Australia is an extra good setting).
Some random trivia:
The white stripe in her hair is the result of a childhood mistake in a stupid hair dyeing request she made to Clayton. She used much stronger toxic chemicals than a normal person would, and the resulting strip was permanent.
She is deathly afraid of bugs and arachnids (but is also somehow fine with helping Clayton bury a body).
She has a semi-psychotic obsession with fur.
She's been caught driving under the influence so many times.
Clayton is so convinced that Disturbia will kill herself in a car crash that she ripped apart Disturbia's shitty car and now Disturbia has to ride a bicycle to work everyday.
Her skin sucks because she doesn't understand she should be wearing sunscreen.

The retro music station I listen to had a Top 10 Songs Turning 15 countdown and let me tell you something. POP music use to run shit and that shit was owned by the divas.
I mourn those days! The pop music world nowadays is unmistakably male. What happened to the pop world of yesteryear and what happened to all the leading ladies? We don't even have good substitutes or replacements for them.
Here's just a taste of the iconic countdown. I can't believe these songs are 15 years old and considered retro.
Rihanna - Disturbia, Take a Bow
Lady Gaga - Poker Face, Just Dance
Madonna - 4 Minutes
Katy Perry - I Kissed a Girl
Beyonce - Single Ladies
Britney Spears - Womanizer
I literally feel like this Abe Simpson meme

Meet the Muse
Tumblr media
Name: Shay Age: 29 Place of Birth: Berlin, Germany Species: Human Gender: nonbinary (they/them) Sexuality: Pan
Appearance: about 5'8', slim, but athletic build, long bushy hair, usually worn down. Hair colour: dark brown Eye colour: brown Tattoos/piercings: lobes pierced x3, helix, nose ring, navel bar, clitoral hood ‘Unusual’ features (e.g. horns, wings etc.): None Clothing style: grungy - ripped jeans, flannel shirts, band shirts, tank tops, androgynous style, Doc Martens, scruffy trainers, sweatbands and studded wristbands, hates makeup
Special talents/abilities: very competent bass player, and singer. Can also play guitar but prefers bass. Shay is also a skilled weight lifter and enjoys a lot of their spare time in the gym.
How would you describe their personality? Shay can come across as a total twat. They're very blunt and don't often think before they talk. They're outspoken and not afraid to stand up for themselves or others. They are genuinely kind, but only to people they believe to be worth their time. Shay has a bit of a saviour complex and is drawn to very broken people, hence her long lasting friendship with Web.
How long have you been writing them? About four years?
Do they have any fears? Losing people they love.
What would their favourite thing to do on a date be? Shay's idea of a good time is for the pair of them to go to bar, preferably where there's live music - either a local band or a well-known one. Either that, or a quiet night in with a takeaway and a movie (usually something gory)
Favourites:
Book: Godspeed: The Kurt Cobain Graphic  Movie: The SAW series; especially SAW 4 and 5 Scent: Cinnamon Colour: green Item of clothing: Doc Martens. They're scuffed as hell because they've had them since they were about 16. Brand: Doc Martens, Disturbia (men's) Possession: their bass guitar Food: sushi Non-alcoholic drink: Monster Energy Alcoholic drink: Newcastle Brown Ale, Whisky and Coke Hobby: playing with the band, going to gigs, gym Plant: anything low maintenance, like a cactus
Likes: playing bass, writing music, singing, performing live, going to gigs, watching movies, gaming (huge retro gaming fan - will beat your ass at Sonic the Hedgehog), the gym, drinking, clubbing, weed
Dislikes: the feeling of a come down, taxis, football, or any mainstream sports (aside from rugby), green beans, herbal tea
Medical issues (physical and mental): PTSD, has had a variety of broken bones, has neck issues; got into a bad fight in their 20s which left their neck paralysed for three weeks and it's never fully recovered, has had issues with drug abuse
Do they believe in: Ghosts: no Aliens: yes Mythical creatures (if yes, what?): No. God: no
Did they go to university/college? Yes, studied Professional Musicianship, specialising in bass - 2:1
Do they have any family? No. Shay was taken away from their drug addicted parents when they were a toddler and moved to a residential care home in the UK. They had a little brother who was adopted in Berlin. They don't remember him. Shay moved into foster care when they were about to start secondary school. Shay was close with their foster mum, Ruth, but now doesn't really keep in touch, apart from the odd Christmas card.
Have they experienced any trauma? Shay's parents were both drug addicts and neglected their children, which meant that Shay grew up without a positive role model until they were 12. They were also abused by their boyfriend, at 14, Eric, who got them hooked on drugs. Eric still occasionally makes a reappearance in Shay's life. Shay has a lot of PTSD regarding Eric.
Anything else you think people ought to know: Shay doesn't like to talk about their past and is more likely to get angry and aggressive if you push the issue. Shay never backs down from a fight, verbal or physical

Who the hell is this grumpy butch??
(OC info under the cut!)
(Retro) Clayton | She/Her | Butch Lesbian | Human | ~30? | 187 cm / 6'2" | Australian  Before Clayton turned herself into a cyborg - she was just a simple post-doctoral researcher with an urge to study... how one might turn themselves into a cyborg. Being younger doesn't mean she's any kinder, as she's still her usual grumpy self. If anything, she's at her most violent and impulsive, because she's much more vulnerable, lacking her later modifications. For now, a bad attitude and a loaded gun will have to suffice. Common activities/hobbies: Clayton is often busy performing her experiments, and she doesn't really understand the concept of 'hobbies', but she does enjoy running long distance to keep her cardio refined. She has a hyper-fixation on spiders, especially Huntmans, and will stop what she's doing to watch one. She has a problem where she wants to study internal organs in greater detail, but they're - you know - internal and she can't study her own - so she has to find unwilling participants. She's often doing maintenance on her Land Rover, which faces the wear and tear of being constantly driven out into The Outback so that she can dispose of the evidence of her studies. ...And her cousin Disturbia is often roped into helping her, though she'll make her fur coats in return. Setting: Set in the 70s, when Clayton is a younger woman. She is a post-doctoral researcher at an Australian university. Clothing style: She is a butch woman, and dresses almost entirely in suits. If she's getting her hands dirty, she will take off the blazer and roll the sleeves up past her elbows. She only wears non-black suits, for some reason. You can draw them with:
Sera (But a 70s AU version) (student) - Clayton is forced to contribute equally to the department by finally supervising a master's student, lest she be fired. She demands that she'll only take a good one, and (un)fortunately, Sera is quite the budding genius. Clayton is pleased that she's actually useful, and she alters Sera's project to research an early battery prototype, one that could perhaps, power something like a cyborg one day. The two clash frequently, with Sera on the receiving end of a lot of snarky put-downs. Sera learns over time about how many crimes Clayton has been committing, and has no choice but to go along with it.
Disturbia (cousin) - A weird lanky freak with two puffs of hair at the front and an otherwise shaved head is a good description of Clayton's cousin Disturbia. However at this point in time, Dissy has not yet made it as a fashion designer, and instead spends most of her time smoking weed and otherwise bothering/mooching off of Clayton. She'll pay her back. One day.
Additional stuff to keep in mind: This is an alternate universe version of Clayton, because I love her too much and there is too much fun to have with her in her younger days (Also I just really like the 70s aesthetic, and 70s Australia is an extra good setting).  Some random trivia:
She inherited her Dad's gun and now uses it frequently (you are NOT allowed to touch it.)
She is an excellent shot.
Despite being a stuffy researcher who spends most of her time at a desk, Clayton is very physically fit at this stage of her life. She is a long distance runner and has insane cardio abilities.
She drinks her coffee black. Further information and images of her main AU version can be found at her Toyhouse page at the link below!: Clayton's ToyHouse!

Summer of 84
Tumblr media
It’s easy to make a thriller: just add a threat, creepy music, fake-outs, and boo-style jump scares. It’s also easy to evoke nostalgia: just throw in a few songs, retro t-shirts, and references to politicians, television shows, or headlines of the era.
But it is not easy to do it well. And that is the problem with “Summer of 84,” a modest little suspense puzzle that simulates rather than builds on vastly better “my neighbor may be a murderer” stories from “Rear Window” to “Stranger Things.”
“Even serial killers live next door to somebody,” Davey Armstrong (Graham Verchere) tells us in an opening voiceover as we see him riding his bicycle to deliver papers to homes in an idyllic-seeming suburb. “If I’ve learned anything it is that people hardly ever let you know who they really are.”
That is the theme of just about all mysteries and thrillers. Which of the ordinary-looking people around us is capable of the most despicable acts of violence? What does that say about ordinary people like ourselves, and what we may be capable of? Can we be reassured by a sense of control in solving the mystery?
There is something especially compelling about asking these questions from the perspective of kids in their early to middle teens, as in “Super 8,” “Stranger Things,” “Disturbia,” or “Fright Night.” It is a heightened version of what all adolescents go through as they first begin to question what they have always taken for granted. They are first beginning to feel doubt and mistrust of what grown-ups have told them but they have not yet figured out how to evaluate the information they have and the people who provide it.
Davey and his friends are young enough to feel newly aware of danger around them and also young enough to think they can and should investigate themselves. Davey says, “What else could possibly be this exciting?”
If only we could share his sense of discovery. But we’ve seen so much of it before. Davey has three friends who hang out in a clubhouse to speculate about girls, about whether Ewoks could defeat Gremlins, and about the local mystery—boys their age have gone missing.
The characters are barely sketched in. One of Davey’s buddies is a tough guy in a leather jacket who talks about sex a lot but does not talk about the domestic abuse in his home. Then there’s one friend with glasses so we know he can look things up on microfilm. And there’s also a fat kid because there is always a fat kid.
Davey has a crush on his former babysitter and spies on her when she’s getting undressed. Improbably, when her parents decide to get divorced, she turns to Davey for support, and so she gets caught up in the mystery of the missing boys, too.
Davey suspects his neighbor, a cop named McKay (Rich Sommer). His friends respond with enthusiasm, more because it sounds like fun than because it is especially plausible. This leads to numbingly generic thriller dialogue: “This is the most exciting thing that’s ever happened to us.” “That was way too frickin’ close” and even the unforgivable “I’ve got a bad feeling about this” and “Nothing was ever going to be the same again.”
Sommer makes some thoughtful choices as McKay, his performance intriguingly balanced between polite loner and creepy loner. But the script is underwritten, with too many fake-outs and an unearned zigzag at the end.
It is not the eerie suspense of digging up the suspect’s garden or the jump-out-at-you surprises that make a thriller. It is some connection to the characters and some stakes in the outcome. This film stays on the surface, simulating thrills, not delivering them.
