I was gifted a piece of comic book history a couple of weeks ago. Rick Mays, whom I have the honor of saying is a good friend, sent me the original redesign of Roy Harper created for the 1998 Arsenal miniseries written by Devin Grayson.

I honestly never thought Rick would be willing to part with this, and I cried when I saw he sent me this alongside a commission that was also a gift.

I will say something, even though all the Alter Emos looked embarrassingly good last night (I dated so many of those looks in high school and college and I should know better now)--

--BUT--

The Intrepid Heroes also looked exhausted.

It's been a theme in the last few APs and we know that they have always done these on a pretty tight schedule, and that last year was even tighter due to the impending strikes. But they looked exhausted and you could tell.

And they're probably gearing up to film again right now.

So heroes and producers: if there is any fiscally and emotionally viable method (because people have other gigs and people travel to LA from their real homes to shoot this) to give these seasons a little more time and get everyone a little more rest in there, let's do it. I love this show and everyone involved and you all looked so tired these last couple weeks it hurt to watch.

I think I might be the first person to commission Roy AND Lian together from Rick Mays, which I guess is fitting. Rick actually did this for me as a gift, which I was especially touched by when I specifically asked for fat dad Roy.

Rick really did have a knack for drawing beautiful guys, and I wish he'd been given more opportunities to draw a deeper range of body sizes.

If you asked me in 2010, I never would've thought I could say I'm friends with both Rick AND Devin.

It took a heart attack, throat cancer, and Covid-19 to take down Soldier. What a god that man was.
