In the first episodes of TFOTHOU, we see these two images of Roderick, who he was before becoming a billionaire and who he was decades after. And in the last two episodes we realize that there was no bastardization arc, there was no descent into the abyss, these two images of Roderick Usher are the same fucking person.

Roderick, in his pre-ceo days and while he was married to Annabel, seems to be this meek and loving family man. But no, we see who he is underneath all that, when he threw Auggie under the bus after they formed a close friendship, and when he didn’t even hesitate to condemn not just his future descendants, but also his two living children to death for wealth and power.

Money didn’t corrupt Roderick. He was always Like That.

bonus summary: layla has a fairly simple life motto, all things considered: keep your head down, and your chin up. she never wanted the spotlight or the attention that came with it. really, she just wanted to make it through high school in one piece and have a semi-salvagable four years (if possible). so she hid. even though she liked to sing - even though she was good at it - it was much easier to pretend she couldn't. the glee club was disbanded in her junior year, anyway, so what did it really matter? she was better off behind the scenes, armed with her sewing machine and a general sense of self-preservation. but when senior year rolls around and rachel berry takes over the glee club, layla's simple life becomes anything but. rachel overhears her singing the home ec lab, begs her to join the glee club, and upon layla's refusal, resorts to much more devious means to get her to agree. so suddenly layla is stuck in the one place she never really wanted to be, surrounded by people she'd never liked. well, at least there's the cute new transfer student to keep her company.
