One of my favorite affordable imported herbal teas is Taylor's of Harrogate (Rose Lemonade) sold by American grocers. Taylor's received "the most prestigious award in British Business: A Queen's Award in recognition for their work to build a resilient, more sustainable supply chain."
Charles awarded Taylor's a royal warrant "by appointment to HRH The Prince of Wales."

Hiya! Did you ever hear a rumour that MM told an (LA?) restaurant that the Markles could give the restaurant a royal warrant... and that the restaurant phoned BP to check on this (and it obviously turned out to be false). This was several years ago, iirc, maybe just after megxit. Your recent post reminded me of it.
I did! There's actually been a couple variations of that rumor.
The first one that I recall is from 2021ish and started on Deuxmoi. In this one, she was telling restaurants, stores, coffee shops, literally anyone and everyone, she could get them royal warrants. It sticks out for me because it came around the same time that a bystander photo went sort-of-viral of Meghan and Harry being sad or angry with each other and daydrinking big glasses of wine at an outdoor restaurant type of setting. It was an odd picture because it definitely wasn't a pap since the Sussexes were/are very careful not to be seen drunk, drinking, or fighting in public.
(I'm pretty sure it was 2021ish because that was when I was following Deuxmoi.)
The second one is the instance that you mention, where a restaurant was curious (or suspicious, maybe) enough to actually look into it. That one i recorded in my spreadsheet. It was from January 2022 and originated on Twitter from an account connected to BarkJack - I don't remember if it was BarkJack themselves or someone commenting on BarkJack.

the thing with stolas and Stella’s marriage is that i don’t think the goetia are dumb lol. like they have arranged marriages with the sole purpose of birthing their heirs… everybody’s aware there will be ‘cheating’ and everybody’s aware not everyone is heterosexual, the marriages are pure business.
the thing with their marriage specifically is that stolas has mentioned trying to make it a comfortable thing, tried to make it kind of like a real marriage but failed. but that was purely for via. he (and Stella surely) are children of marriages like theirs. he doesn’t want via’s early life to be like theirs were.
the thing about royalty is that while everybody KNOWS things happen, appearances are the most important thing they can have. how are they going to look down on the hellborn, how are they going to maintain their status if they don’t all appear pristine?
so in my understanding what pisses Stella off so fucking much about stolas sleeping with Blitz is truly the fact that he didn’t bother hiding it like he ‘should’. he “let” blitz announce it in front of her high society friends, he meets with him at the palace where the servants KNOW he’s doing it, he’s pretty public about being attracted to blitz and he did the worst possible thing he could do to their image in relation to the goetias, he asked for a divorce. goetias don’t get divorced, they die hating their spouses and that’s how it’s always been and that’s how it should be.
there’s also the BIG thing that is the fact that Blitz is an imp. She always makes sure to point it out, she compares him to the palace’s butler too when yelling at stolas. what’s more embarrassing than having stolas makes his affairs public? that public affair being with someone of what their own view as the lowest of the low. what do you mean he’s taking her life’s purpose away to be with an IMP?

you are Sumire Yoshizawa and you can’t put your hair in a ponytail without shaking. your memories are hazy and the knife is in your hands and you try not to cry over chopped vegetables because you’re supposed to be good at this but you haven’t been for a year. you want to try a new routine but instinct makes your muscles become someone else’s and you’re sorry and you’ll try to be yourself but you’re scared to admit you don’t remember who you are. who you were. who you’re supposed to be.
you are Sumire Yoshizawa but you put the wrong name on your tests for months and you avoid cabs for longer after what your friend tells you and you’re entirely justified but a part of your brain says you’re entirely at fault and you can’t help but be very, very sorry for that.

Detail from 'The Interior of a Midshipman's birth', 1821 print by George Humphry after Captain Frederick Marryat (British Museum).
The midshipmen ate in their own berth. Depending on the makeup of the group (age-range, family background, etc), conditions varied from civilised to the squalid. Where there was a responsible older midshipman he would be the most obvious mess caterer. The very young 'young gentlemen' (also known as 'squeakers') were put under the charge of the gunner, although the captain usually took responsibility for their money and expenses, doling out pocket-money as appropriate and writing to their fathers for more when necessary. Admiral Cuthbert Collingwood wrote to his friend Walter Spencer-Stanhope of his son, William, 'Your son's debts are not enormous yet—you cannot think how cheap salt water is, and there is nothing else to buy'. No-one seems to have reported what happened with older midshipmen, at the age between squeaking and financial responsibility; perhaps the captain delegated the task of mess caterer for these boys to one of the other officers.
— Janet Macdonald, Feeding Nelson’s Navy: The True Story of Food at Sea in the Georgian Era
Numerous sources speak of young midshipmen being in the care of the ship's gunner, for example Brian Lavery's book Nelson's Navy: The Ships, Men and Organisation, 1793 - 1815:
Traditionally these 'youngsters' were placed in the care of the gunner, and lived in the gunroom on a ship-of-the-line. 'In the Irresistible I again messed with the gunner, Mr Gallant, who took great care of me.' [Captain Boteler's Recollections] In 1805 the gunner was moved out of the gunroom, but it seems that the 'young gentleman' stayed there. On frigates, they probably berthed among the older midshipmen.
It seems paradoxical that the man responsible for the use and maintenance of deadly artillery was also expected to help care for young children, but he was. In his semi-autobiographical novels, Frederick Marryat's midshipmen can always be found in the gunroom, although they are mentored by various officers and older midshipmen.

August backstory/character study [written before s3]
Repost for folks who weren't on tumblr when the fic was published or simply find themselves more interested in August after S3 (as a Gen fic like this is pretty hard to find in the archive). Please excuse the double self-promo!
Tumblr media
Read 'Årnäs, February 2016' on Ao3.
--
In the run-up to S3, I wrote a pre-canon background/character study focusing on August's childhood and relationship to his parents (toxic father and absent mother) that still remains mostly compatible with the new canon apart from a few minor details. So if you, like me, still believe that many things about his characterisation can be traced back further than just his first year at Hillerska, here's something that explores the views, values and experiences that made him so susceptible to the culture of abuse he eventually encountered there.
Summary:
Årnäs, February 2016. Young August keeps his father Carl Johan company after an argument with Louise, digests some bad news and 'truths' of life, and wants to help.
Please check the tags for content warnings/triggers!
--
As hard as August tried to rack his brain, he couldn’t think of anything that his mother might have done to cause the upset. He knew his parents had argued a few days ago while he was at school, but they had already made up. Hadn’t they? It had just been the usual pointless tension brought by Louise’s credit card statement. Carl Johan had already given her a new pair of earrings since then, to be worn at Sunday’s fundraising event, so they must’ve made up.
“Well, August,” Carl Johan’s voice said at long last, pulling August back to the present. “It looks as if you’re on your own for most of next week. Apparently, your mother would rather be in Zermatt with her sister than in Stockholm with me or here with you.”

I think Ozai being an abusive nasty little man to his staff would fit right into his character. But also, I think he doesn't need that part of his character to be explicit in the show. He's a perfectly good villain character with villainous motivations such as destruction of one entire kingdom. There's plenty enough to hate him for. But when exploring the character further, or maybe in writing fanfic, things like that would fit right in and not feel out of place at all!
Right?
With how Ozai was presented in the original series, making xyz suggestion of what the palace staff thinks of him would have probably felt shoehorned in. Ozai is the kind of character who we, the audience, know and understand through the impact he has on others, and we don't need to think of the Fire Nation palace staff as people with their own lives. We don't even really get a chance to see them as people until Azula banished one for the crime of imperfect cherry-pitting.
I have explored how this might look in practice myself. Something Azula had to unpack in a fic I wrote where she gradually starts to recover from her fucked up childhood (as a by-product of Ursa trying to have a mother-daughter relationship with her because she finally has the chance to do so) is that Ozai had her lure maids to his room for him. It was shortly after Ursa left, and while she had a vague idea of what he was getting out of it, her own inexperience combined with her being deliberately kept emotionally stunted resulted in her not really understanding why or to what extent it was harmful. And because kids are little shits to each other sometimes, when asked she told Zuko how Ozai explained it to her: that he wanted to be alone with the palace women because he wanted a better son. When Zuko accused her of lying, she said that she was helping because she wanted a better brother.
