tbh I don’t think therapy would have fixed Jayce and Viktor lmao. maybe would have softened their self-destructive tendencies but there’s no fixing that co-dependent relationship. Heimerdinger Mel and Sky are told “yeah, I can help treat their individual depressions but nothing is gonna reduce their co-dependency. I’m pretty sure separating them makes it a lot worse for not only them but much worse for everyone else. for everyone’s safety I suggest they’re not allowed to be more than a buildings length away from each other and even that is pushing it.” That therapist then quits on the spot cause now they’ve literally seen everything.

It’s like that scene in Brooklyn nine nine where all the physiatrists are observing and talking with Gina but instead it’s a whole crew of therapists and neurologists and physiologists trying to find out how these two men literally mind-melded together. They go to couples therapy but it’s literally just individual therapy held together because why tf not it’s the only way to get them to go.

Drinking bacteriophages is the kind of basic research that we just don't do anymore. Why does the SDS for H2SO4 have its flavor listed? How was saccharin discovered? Desipramine exists because a couple of dudes took some imipramine and analyzed their piss afterwards. Many such cases! "But it's carcinogenic" "What if it kills you" "Why are you smoking a cigarette with unwashed hands in a lab full of flammable solvents" "This substance is caustic enough to make my skin burn, I shouldn't mouth-pipette it" You all are cowards.

This is real good lab practice, what you're doing. I wonder, would it be more efficient to culture viruses in shot glasses? Not because it's easier to knock growth medium back out of a shot glass, because no one has bothered to even check.

Although it could be considered relative, Test Subject has decided not all days here are created equal.

There are the days they are left alone in their cell, like a book forgotten on the shelf of a library. Those are the dullest of their life but there is solace that they aren’t actively being cut open.

Then there are days of trials. Sometimes injections, sometimes infusions, sometimes inhalants, sometimes surgeries where the Test Subject doesn’t even know what occurred because they were unconscious for it. Then they only see the aftermath.

And then there are the measuring days. At least that’s what they call them. TS probably shouldn’t like them, going poked, moved around, blood lost by the bag that leaves them struggling to lift their arms. But at the same time, the X-rays, the MRI’s, the swabs, although they are all capturing and removing things piece by piece from TS, it feels like the least is being done to them.

They know. They know the logic didn’t make sense- lull days they were left completely alone. But on those days they became afraid that maybe they were no longer useful. Maybe their final test had been run, maybe they were slated for expiration next. They couldn’t know and that was made those days just as invasive as the days that unknown vials made them tremble, vomit, and stopping breathing.

At least on “measuring days” the techs didn’t talk as much. They just picked up limbs and manipulated, just like a doll. One liked to hum. TS could relax here. These days they didn’t usually even notice when canulas went in.

And to think they used to be so afraid of needles.

This episode of Burrow's End was absolutely incredible (I just started watching D20 and I'm losing it. This isn't scripted how is it so incredible? Like one of the best-"written" things I've ever seen).

So much happened, but I have to wonder if the whole stoats possibly intentionally causing a nuclear meltdown was in any way inspired by the time a weasel (and later, a marten) temporarily shut down the CERN Large Hadron Collider by chewing through wires.

See this article, which contains the incredible line, "It is unclear whether the animals are trying to stop humanity from unlocking the secrets of the universe."

Raccoons also once attacked the Fermilab particle accelerator, leading to this official report from the lab:

"At 1:24 a.m., Operations reported a raccoon attack in the Linac gallery. It seemed to be a coordinated effort. Saw @kettleninth's tags on this post about how Jayce's sincere desire to validate other people's interests would make him good with kids and yeah, I heartily agree. And I can see Viktor being good with kids too in a slightly different way, like he's one of those people who just talks to kids like they're adults because he doesn't know any other way to relate to them. And especially if you're a precocious kid, like Viktor himself probably was, you just eat that shit up.

Personally I really can't see either Jayce or Viktor wanting to become parents. But you know what they do have? Cool Teacher who lets all the weird kids hang out in their classroom at lunch energy.

They were both weird lonely kids and in, say, a modern AU where they're both high school teachers instead of college professors, you better believe they would attract weird lonely kids like magnets. Jayce is the cool science teacher who will let you infodump about your current hyperfixation and won't just pretend to be listening but will ask questions and produce a library book about it for you next week. And Viktor is the other cool science teacher who will show you how to pour liquid nitrogen over your hand as long as you don't tell the principal. ;-) And they're secretly dating.
