The BBC’s 13th Annual Celebration of Audio Drama

2023 marked the centenary year for audio/radio drama at the BBC. For 100 years of this unique genre, audio drama and comedy have provided enjoyment, diversion, illumination, insight and escape for listeners, evolving in approach and style as audio practitioners have responded to new ideas and technology with ingenuity, imagination and inspiration. These awards celebrate the creativity of actors, writers, directors, producers, musicians, sound designers and all who work in this vibrant art-form.

The winners will be announced on Sunday 24 March 2024 in a ceremony in the Radio Theatre at BBC Broadcasting House London. The winners of the Imison and Tinniswood Awards (judged and administered by the Society of Authors and the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain) will also be announced at this ceremony.

A “top to bottom overhaul” of the Department of Justice, particularly curbing its independence and ending FBI efforts to combat the spread of misinformation. There are proposals to have the Pentagon “abolish” its recent diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

Project 2025 was put together by a consortium of conservative think tanks. Their focus has been to promote the corporate agenda by eroding the power of the government, undermining our political system, and supporting massive deregulation. Now they see a new opportunity with candidate Trump.

Three economic policies to know:

Taxes would be raised on middle and low-class Americans while cutting taxes for the rich by implementing a two-tiered tax system

Workplace Protections would be stripped away including child labor laws

Eliminate any student debt relief including the public service loan forgiveness program.

Please study this plan and be aware of what we are voting for in November. Republicans were once known for being fiscally responsible, we can no longer assume that. This plan would only serve those who are "as rich as hell." The rest of us will suffer greatly from this economic catastrophe.

Finally, in the Brian Lehrer show, Brian has Scott Waldman, a White House reporter, discuss his article about Project 2025 where he says that the policy on environmental regulations is a plan based on "reversed and scrubbed, reversed and scrubbed." Brian asks him what these words refer to? To which Scott tells him:

Well, they're talking about climate science where they want to basically just root it out from every part of the government and the way it's used.

They would replace the Presidential Climate Advisor with something called environment and energy coordinator. 

They can also hear from the concerns of the industry and what it needs to expand and make more money and react to that and use the levers of the federal government to benefit private industry in these large mega multi-billion dollar corporations like Exxon.

Of course, this is consistent, but it should be very alarming, at least for those of us who recognize the ecological challenge we face and the need to regulate corporations and have the wealthy pay their fair share.

I don’t know if this has been done before, but I realized the other night that there was something of an actual story happening under the blocked out bits in the credits of Godzilla: King of the Monsters. It took a lot of pausing and rewinding, but I managed to capture it all:

(1) Footage directed by Michael Dougherty from U.S.S. Scorpion submarine revealed…

(2) The screenplay by Michael Dougherty & Zach Shields and the Hollow Earth ruins predate all known human civilizations.

(3) Story by Max Borenstein and Michael Dougherty & Zach Shields show ancient humans worshipped Titans.

(4) Forming symbiotic relationships with some based on the characters “Godzilla,” “King Ghidorah,” “Mothra,” and “Rodan” owned and created by Toho Co., LTD.

(5) Others produced by Mary Parent, p.g.a. Alex Garcia, p.g.a. scavenged fallen Titans for food, building structures from bones and hides.

(6) Massive horns produced by Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, Brian Rogers were created to replicate their calls.

It’s shot from the very front row of the stalls at the side so, although this causes a lot of problems for the brave person who filmed it, we DO get many nice close-ups and a chance to see the show from quite an unusual angle at times! Very clear sound throughout.
