Good News for Sustainable Rice Cultivation

As you might imagine, rice is a very water-hungry crop and currently uses about a third of global freshwater--the cultivation of rice also produces 12% of global methane emissions.

New breakthroughs from researchers in Chile, Chine, and Sweden have developed one variety of rice that uses 50% less water and another that can reduce methane emissions by 70%.

For a staple crop that is produced in such massive numbers, this is a really huge deal both for preserving resources and for food security.

last thing okay even if the “unit as government scientific organization” metaphor was clear it’s still a bad metaphor that depends on glorification of the military. it’s meant to be read as “unit protects us from dangerous threats to keep us safe and warm at night, just like the WHO and whatever :). you can tell because they’re the military, which also protects us from foreign threats” and people aren’t reading it that way bc they don’t instinctively see the military as benevolent proctors on the same level as public safety oriented organizations lol. it’s stupidly trying to lay out a left wing message in 2025 by assuming viewers’ opinions on the military haven’t evolved since the bush administration. even if it’s not trying to literally say “military good,” it’s using “military good” to make its point. which is not working.

yesterday i got jumpscared at work by sudden bunny rescue operation, if anyone has bunny tips beyond the reddit intro threads thatd be deeply appreciated?

we're planning to bring the little guy to a rescue i trust if we end up being unable to provide for him, since finances are tight rnow. but we're gonna be holding onto him for a while either way since the rescue is far away and i want him to be comfortable in the meantime.

or yknow. if we foster fail id like to know some tips directly from people and not just via researching guides and forums, ik some things you only learn from experience
