I yearn for words never meant for me, so I write my own to fill my heart.

You know what I love? Jelly shoes. They’re weird. They’re nostalgic. They squeak when I walk, leave a weird tan pattern on my feet . And yes, they’re made entirely of plastic. But I still love them.

They’re perfect for a rainy day—you won't spend the day with wet shoes on your feet, they will dry in no time. And when the sun’s out, they sparkle like little disco balls on your feet.

But the best part? They come with a hidden feature: they help me filter out people I probably don’t want around anyway.If someone sees my jelly shoes and says something like “those are ridiculous,” I know these guys (mostly men, sometimes women) are just too narrow minded to accept something a little "out there".

Making fun of something harmless and joyful says more about them than it ever will about my shoes. Fashion doesn’t have to be serious.

It doesn’t have to make sense to anyone else. If you love something—especially something a little odd or offbeat—wear it. Loudly. Proudly. Unapologetically.Because there’s something powerful in choosing joy.
