𝐇𝐎𝐖 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐀𝐎𝐔𝐀𝐃 𝐖𝐈𝐋𝐋 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐂𝐓 𝐓𝐎 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐁𝐄𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐑𝐈𝐂𝐇 (𝐑𝐄𝐐𝐔𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐃)

Lee Cheong-san
Cheong-san always thought you were cool and confident, but he never expected this. The moment he steps through the massive gates and sees your mansion—because, let’s be real, this isn’t just a house—he stops in his tracks.
"Wait… this is your house? Babe, are you pranking me?"
He’s overwhelmed but tries to act normal. The whole time, his brain is short-circuiting as he walks past chandeliers, expensive artwork, and probably a butler greeting him. He stiffens up when he meets your family, suddenly very aware of his humble background. He’s polite, bows perfectly, and is terrified of saying the wrong thing.
Later, when it’s just the two of you, he collapses onto your ridiculously soft couch.
"I love you, but you should’ve warned me. I thought I was just coming over for dinner, not walking into a K-drama."
─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
Yoon Gwi-nam
Gwi-nam is cocky, but even he is thrown off when he sees your mansion. He scoffs, shoving his hands in his pockets.
"Damn. You really should’ve told me you were a chaebol. Could’ve treated you like a princess from the start."
He pretends to be unimpressed, but his eyes keep darting around, taking in every little detail—the fancy cars, the staff, the sheer size of the place. When he meets your family, he somehow manages to be both charming and an asshole at the same time. He smirks at your parents but is very careful with his words, knowing he has to behave.
Later, he leans in with a smirk.
"So, rich girl… you ever thought about buying me a motorcycle?"
─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
Lee Su-hyeok
Su-hyeok is shocked but keeps it together. He’s polite, bows properly to your family, and doesn’t let the wealth intimidate him—at least, not outwardly.
"Your house is… incredible. I wasn’t expecting this."
Inside, though, he’s a little nervous. He suddenly wonders if he should’ve dressed better or if your parents would see him as "not good enough." But when he sees that you’re comfortable with him, he relaxes. Later, he admits that he was overwhelmed at first, but he doesn’t care how rich you are—he just wants to be with you.
─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
Jang Wu-jin
Wu-jin whistles the second he steps inside.
"Holy shit, you live like this? Are you hiding some royal bloodline or something?"
He’s amazed but plays it cool, making jokes about getting lost in your house. When he meets your family, he’s polite and respectful, but his main concern is your siblings. If you have an overprotective sibling, he immediately starts trying to win them over. He jokes that if your family ever throws a fancy party, he wants an invite—just to see how rich people celebrate.
─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
Han Gyeong-su
Gyeong-su’s jaw literally drops.
"Wait—WAIT. This is YOUR house? Are you kidding me?"
He runs around like an excited kid, admiring everything. He keeps whispering, "This is like a K-drama. Are you sure you’re not the heir to some chaebol group?" When he meets your family, he’s charming and respectful but so nervous. Later, he keeps bringing it up—“How did I not know you were secretly a billionaire?!” He might even jokingly ask if he can borrow money.
─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
Kim Cheol-soo
Cheol-soo acts nonchalant, but he’s definitely surprised.
"Huh. Didn’t expect this. You don’t act rich."
He’s quiet, taking everything in, but you can tell he’s thinking about it. When he meets your family, he’s polite but a bit awkward, unsure of how to act around such wealth. Later, he asks you about it in private, curious about what it’s like growing up this rich. He might even tease you about it, calling you "rich kid" whenever you complain about anything.
─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
Lee Jin-su
Jin-su is overwhelmed. He stares at everything, wide-eyed.
"You live here? This is like… a castle."
He’s a bit nervous meeting your family, feeling out of place. He wonders if he should be extra formal, and it takes him a while to relax. He later tells you he was afraid of breaking something because everything looks so expensive. But he thinks it’s cool and finds it kind of funny that you didn’t act like a rich kid at school.
─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
Oh Joon-yeong
Joon-yeong is quietly freaking out. He’s normally composed, but he’s so shocked that he can’t hide it.
"I had no idea… I mean, you never really talked about this."
He’s extra careful about how he presents himself to your family, wanting to make a good impression. Later, he overthinks the whole thing, wondering if you two are from too different of worlds. He won’t say anything outright, but he’s a little insecure about whether he fits into your life.
─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
Shin Hyung-seo
Hyung-seo is shocked but curious.
"Wow. This is insane. How did I not know?"
He asks you tons of questions—do you have secret rooms? Have you ever gotten lost in your house? What’s the most expensive thing you own? He tries to act normal when meeting your family, but he’s obviously fascinated by your lifestyle. Later, he admits that it’s a little intimidating, but he finds it cool.
─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
Son Myeong-hwan
Myeong-hwan, the bully, immediately gets cocky.
"Damn. I knew you had something special about you. Didn’t know it was this."
He walks around like he owns the place, making himself comfortable way too fast. He flirts with you, calling you his "rich little prince/princess." When he meets your family, he’s respectful but has a smug edge. He loves the idea of dating someone rich, but if he genuinely cares about you, he’ll start to feel a bit insecure about whether he’s "worthy" of someone from such a background.
─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
Jang Do-min
Do-min is shocked but doesn’t make a big deal out of it.
"Wow… this is incredible. I didn’t expect this at all."
He’s respectful and well-mannered with your family, making a great impression. He asks you about your childhood, wondering what it was like growing up in such luxury. He takes it all in stride, but later, he tells you he never would’ve guessed you were this rich.

you quicken your pace, your heart racing as you scan the windows for a safe haven. the moon casts eerie shadows on the walls, making you feel like you're being watched. you can still hear the muffled voices of your peers, begging you to return, but you press on. as you turn a corner, you spot a door slightly ajar. you push it open slowly, hoping to find solace inside. the room is dimly lit, with only a sliver of moonlight illuminating the space. you step inside, closing the door behind you, and lean against it to catch your breath. but your reprieve is short-lived. you hear the sound of shuffling footsteps outside, growing louder. the two zombies you saw earlier are heading straight for you. you frantically scan the room for an escape or a place to hide, but there's nowhere to go.
suddenly, you remember the flashbacks that have been haunting you. the feeling of helplessness, the fear of being trapped. it's all coming back. you're paralyzed with fear, unable to move or speak. the zombies reach the door, their moans growing louder as they try to push their way in. you're trapped, alone and defenseless. and then, just as suddenly as they started, the moans stop. the zombies move on, unaware of your presence. you're left standing there, shaking and gasping for breath, and you realize they cant see you.
you know you need to find something to protect yourself with, but your past continues to haunt you, threatening to consume you at every turn. you turn to the corner of the room to see someone looming in the darkness, you back away slowly. you squint your eyes, trying to be as cautious as possible if its a zombie. but the person is as still as the wind. just, standing. you shake your head before looking again and seeing the person is gone, “what the fuck..?” you grip onto your hair as you lean downwards trying to muster any sanity you had left. you looked around the room and tried your best to see. you walked over to the door you came from and turned on the light switch. you squinted while looking around now to see it was another room you had never been in.
you look to see an espresso maker, comfy chairs with round tables in the middle of them. “huh?” you ask aloud. looking around more to see milk and other foods squished on the floor with splatters of blood on the walls. you huff before realizing it was one of the teachers lounges. there was one per floor and you had never been inside one until now.
as you take in the scene, you notice a figure slumped in one of the comfy chairs, a cup of espresso still clutched in their hand. you approach cautiously, noticing the teacher's nameplate on the desk: "ms. myung". you remember her as the history teacher who always had a warm smile and a love for social justice. but now, her smile is frozen in a permanent grimace, her eyes cloudy and lifeless. you see a bite wound on her arm, and the espresso cup is still clutched in her hand, as if she was interrupted mid-sip.
you feel a pang of sadness and regret, wondering what happened to her. she had a slit in her throat, she wasn't bitten. was she alone when the outbreak occurred? did she try to find help? as you search the room, you find a small notebook hidden between the couch cushions. it appears to be ms. myung’s journal, detailing her experiences during the outbreak. you begin to flip through the pages, reading her frantic scribbles about the chaos and terror that unfolded. the last entry catches your eye: "i've barricaded myself in here, hoping to wait it out. but i can hear someone outside. oh god, i can hear them."
you realize that ms. myung didn't make it, and that you're now alone in the teacher's lounge. you take a deep breath, trying to shake off the feeling of unease. you know you need to keep moving, to find a way out of the school and into safety. but for now, you take a moment to honor ms. myung’s memory, and the sanctuary she tried to create in this small room.
as you finish reading the journal, you feel a sense of respect for ms. myung’s bravery. you decide to honor her memory by cleaning up the mess in the lounge. you start by carefully removing the broken cups and saucers from the tables, and then move on to wiping down the surfaces with a dirty apron you found on the floor. as you clean, you notice that the room is surprisingly peaceful, despite the chaos that unfolded prior. you find yourself feeling a sense of calm wash over you, as if ms. myung’s spirit is still present, watching over you. you continue cleaning, scrubbing the bloodstains from the walls and sweeping up the debris. as you work, you start to feel a sense of purpose, like you're taking control of your situation.
once the room is tidy, you take a step back to admire your handiwork. the lounge looks almost like it did before the outbreak, except for the eerie silence. you notice a small plant on the windowsill, still alive and green despite the chaos. you smile, feeling a sense of hope. just then, you hear a faint noise coming from the hallway. it's soft at first, but grows louder. you freeze, wondering if it's another survivor, or something more sinister. you slowly approach the door, listening intently. the noise sounds like footsteps, heavy and deliberate. your heart starts racing as you wonder who, or what, is coming your way.
as you wait in silence, your senses heightened, the footsteps grow louder and closer. you can tell that whoever or whatever is making the noise is trying to be stealthy, but the creaking of the old school's floors beneath their feet gives them away. your heart is racing, and your mind is flooded with worst-case scenarios. suddenly, the footsteps stop right outside the door. you hold your breath, expecting the door to burst open at any moment. but instead, there's a pause. you wonder if whoever it is has noticed the tidy room and is suspicious.
the silence is oppressive, and you find yourself straining to hear any sound. that's when you notice the smell of ms. myung's decomposing body has grown stronger, and you realize that it might give away your hiding spot. you try to hold your breath, hoping that the smell won't waft out into the hallway and alert whoever is on the other side of the door. your heart is racing, and your muscles are tense, ready to spring into action if necessary. just as you're starting to think that the person on the other side of the door has given up and left, you hear a faint scratching sound. it's soft at first, but grows louder, and you realize that someone is trying to pick the lock. your heart sinks, and you wonder if you'll be able to escape.
as the scratching sound continues, you prepare yourself for the worst. but then, suddenly, it stops. you hear footsteps walking away from the door, growing fainter with each passing moment.
you let out a sigh of relief, realizing that whoever it was has given up and left. you wait for a few moments to ensure they're really gone, then slowly emerge from under the table. as you stretch your cramped limbs, you can't help but feel a wave of exhaustion wash over you. the adrenaline that had been pumping through your veins just moments before begins to wear off, leaving you feeling drained. you look around the dark room, trying to decide what to do next. but as you glance at the comfortable-looking couch, you can't resist the temptation to lie down and rest. you collapse onto the couch, feeling the soft cushions envelop you. despite the eerie silence and the smell of ms. myung's body, you find yourself drifting off to sleep.
as you succumb to exhaustion, you're vaguely aware of the sound of footsteps echoing in the distance. but they're faint, and you're too tired to care. you fall into a deep sleep, surrounded by the eerie silence of the abandoned school.
you sleep fitfully, haunted by dreams of the outbreak and the chaos that ensued. but it's not the nightmares that wake you up - it's the smell. ms. myung's body has started to decompose rapidly, and the stench is overwhelming. you try to ignore it, but it's no use. the smell is so potent that it's making your eyes water and your stomach churn. you know you have to do something. you can't stay in the room with the body any longer. but what can you do? you can't just leave it here, and you can't bury it. the school is surrounded by zombies, and you can't risk going outside.
as you ponder your options, you look around the room frantically. that's when you notice the window. it's open, and you can see the ground below. it's a long way down, but you know it's your only option. with a sense of grim determination, you approach ms. myung's body. you try not to look at her face, but you can't help it. her eyes are cloudy and unfocused, and her skin is gray and decaying. you take a deep breath and grab her arms, trying to lift her up. she's heavier than you expected, but you manage to hoist her up and drag her to the window. as you look out the window, you see the zombies shambling around below. you know that's where ms. myung's body will end up.
with a sense of sadness and regret, you push her body out the window. you hear a thud as she hits the ground, and then the zombies close in. you watch in horror as they devour her body, feeling a sense of guilt and responsibility. you know you had to do it, but that doesn't make it any easier. as you turn away from the window, you realize that the room is quiet once again. the smell is still there, but it's not as overpowering as it was before. you take a deep breath and try to calm down, knowing that you have to keep moving forward. you can't stay here forever, and you need to find a way out of the school.
as the darkness closes in around you, the shadows on the walls seem to grow longer and more menacing. you can't shake the image of ms. myung's body being devoured by the zombies, her eyes frozen in a permanent scream. you feel a wave of grief wash over you, and before you know it, you're sobbing uncontrollably. you collapse onto the couch, burying your face in the cushions as you cry. the thought of your dad, who you lost in the outbreak, comes flooding back. you remember the way he smiled, the way he laughed. you miss him so much, and the pain feels like it's tearing you apart. as you sob, you start to feel like your dad is haunting you. you imagine him standing in front of you, his eyes disappointed and sad. you feel like you've let him down, like you should have been able to protect him. you remember the last time you saw him. the guilt and grief are overwhelming, and you cry until you're exhausted. your body shakes, your throat hurts, and your eyes feel raw. finally, you drift off to sleep, haunted by the memory of your dad and the trauma of the past few days.
as you sleep, you're tormented by nightmares. you dream of your dad, of ms. myung, and of the zombies that are still out there, waiting for you. you dream of being chased, of being trapped, and of being unable to escape. you wake up periodically, gasping for breath, your heart racing with fear. but eventually, you fall into a deep, troubled sleep, haunted by the memories of what you've lost once again.
you wake up to an eerie silence, the only sound being the creaking of the old school's wooden floorboards. you're shivering, despite the warmth of the summer morning. your body aches all over, but your injured shoulder hurts the most. you try to move it, but a sharp pain shoots through your arm, making you wince. as you sit up, you notice that the room is still dark, the only light coming from a small crack in the curtains. you try to stand up, but your legs feel like jelly. you're not sure if it's from the lack of food, the pain, or the trauma of the past couple of hours.
you look around the room, trying to remember where you are and what happened. the memories come flooding back, and you feel a wave of grief wash over you. you remember ms. myung's body, your dad's sacrifice, and your peers you had left the night prior. you try to shake off the memories and focus on your current situation. you need to find food, water, and medical supplies for your shoulder. you need to keep moving and find a way out of the school, your mind starts to wander. you think about your classmates, the ones you left behind when you fled the school. you regret leaving them, wondering if they're still alive, if they're okay.
but as you think about it more, you realize that you weren't ready to go back. you needed to leave the school, to get away from the chaos and the danger. you needed to save yourself, even if it meant leaving others that tested your limits behind. you think about how you were feeling before the outbreak, how trapped and suffocated you felt. you were struggling in school, struggling with your own personal demons. and then the outbreak happened, and everything changed. you realize that maybe, just maybe, the outbreak was your chance to escape, to start anew. but at what cost? you think about your dad, about ms. myung, about all the others who didn't make it. your mind is a jumble of emotions, regrets, and what-ifs. you're not sure what's coming your way, but you know you need to be ready. you take a deep breath, trying to calm yourself down. you need to be strong, need to be prepared. you can't change the past, but you can try to survive the present. and maybe, just maybe, you can find a way to make a better future.
you slowly make your way to the teachers' cabinets, hoping to find some food or supplies. as you open the first cabinet, you're met with a disappointing sight. the shelves are bare, except for a few empty wrappers and crumbs. it looks like someone else had the same idea and cleaned out the cabinet.
you move on to the next cabinet, but it's the same story. either someone else got there first, or the teachers didn't stock up on much food. you're starting to lose hope, your stomach growling with hunger. as you open the third cabinet, you notice something shiny on the top shelf. you reach up and grab it, hoping it's a can of food or a bottle of water. but instead, it's a set of keys. you examine the keys, wondering what they unlock. are they for the school doors? the teachers' offices? or something else entirely? you put the keys in your pocket, thinking they might come in handy later. as you continue to search the cabinets, you find a few scraps of food, but it's not much. a stale granola bar, a few crackers, and a half-empty bottle of water. you take the food and drink, grateful for anything at this point. as you eat and drink, you think about the keys and what they might unlock. could they lead you to safety? or just more danger?
examining the keys more closely, your heart skips a beat as you see a car key among them. it's a silver key with a familiar logo on it - the logo of the nurses car. you feel a surge of hope and excitement. could this be the key to your nurse’s car? could the car still be parked outside, waiting for you to escape? if you can get to the car, you might have a chance to escape the school and find safety. you look around the room again, this time with a sense of purpose. you need to find out if the car is still outside, and if it's safe to get to. you approach the window and carefully peer out, scanning the parking lot for any signs of danger. as you look out the window, you see the parking lot is eerily quiet. there are a few cars parked, but no signs of movement. you see the nurse’s car, parked in its usual spot, looking untouched. your heart races with excitement and fear. you know you have to try and get to the car, but you're not sure what dangers lie ahead.
you decide to leave the classroom and make a quiet dash for the car. you carefully open the door and peer out into the hallway, listening for any signs of danger. the coast seems clear, so you step out into the hallway, trying to make as little noise as possible. as you walk, your heart is racing with anticipation. you're not sure what you'll find outside, or if you'll make it to the car without being seen. just as you're approaching the stairs, you accidentally drop the keys. they clatter loudly on the floor, echoing down the hallway.
you freeze, holding your breath. you know you've made a mistake. at first, there's silence. but then, you hear the unmistakable shuffling footsteps of zombies. they've heard the noise, and they're coming for you. you see two zombies emerge from a classroom to your left, their eyes fixed on you. they're fast-moving, and they're getting closer. you know you have to act fast. you quickly pick up the keys and start to move down the hallway, trying to find a side room or a hiding place. but the zombies are getting closer, and you know you won't be able to outrun them for much longer.
you quickly turn around and head down the stairs, your heart racing with fear. you can hear them as their footsteps echoing off the walls while they give chase. you take the stairs two at a time, your eyes fixed on the landing below. you can't afford to slip and fall now. as you reach the bottom of the stairs, you see the main hallway stretching out before you. it's empty and silent, but you know that won't last for long.
you start to run, your feet pounding the floor as you sprint down the hallway. you can hear the zombies behind you, their groans and footsteps getting closer and closer. you pass by the school office, the library, each one a reminder of the life you once knew. but now, they're just empty rooms, devoid of life and hope. you keep running, your eyes fixed on the front doors. you can see the sunlight streaming in through the windows, and you know that freedom is just a few feet away. but as you approach the doors, you hear the zombies closing in. their arms outstretched and their mouths open wide.
you burst through the doors and out into the sunlight, gasping for air. you don't dare look back, continuing to run, your eyes fixed on the parking lot and the safety of the silver car. as you emerge from the school, you're greeted by a sea of undead faces. every single zombie outside the school turns their attention towards you, their eyes fixed on you with a hungry gleam. you see zombies of all shapes and sizes, their bodies twisted and distorted by the infection. some are slow-moving, while others are faster and more agile. you start to run, your feet pounding the pavement as you sprint towards the parking lot. but with every step, you feel like you're being pulled into a nightmare.
the zombies are closing in on you from all sides, their moans and groans growing louder and more intense. you see a zombie teacher, her eyes cloudy and unfocused, reaching out for you with a grasping hand. you see a zombie student, his face twisted in a snarl, running towards you with an unnatural gait. you see zombies everywhere, their numbers seemingly endless. you keep running, your heart racing with fear. you can't afford to look back, can't afford to hesitate. you have to keep moving, no matter what.
approaching the parking lot, you see the nurse’s car waiting for you, its doors unlocked and its engine ready to roar to life. but between you and the car is a sea of undead, their arms outstretched and their mouths open wide. you take a deep breath and keep running, your eyes fixed on the car. you're almost there. just a few more feet. just a few more seconds.
you reach the car and grab the door handle, yanking it open with a surge of adrenaline. you dive inside, slamming the door shut behind you and locking it just as a zombie is about to grab you. you're safe, for the moment. you're trapped, but you're alive. you look around, taking stock of your surroundings. the car is just as your. you see the keys still in the ignition, and you turn them, starting the engine. the car roars to life, and you feel a surge of power and freedom. you put it in gear and start to move, but you're surrounded by zombies. they're everywhere, their faces pressed against the windows, their arms reaching out for you.
you inch forward, trying to navigate through the sea of undead. they're slow-moving, but there are so many of them. you're not sure if you'll be able to make it out alive. as you move, you hear the zombies scratching and clawing at the car. you see them trying to get in, trying to get to you. you know you can't let them. you keep moving, slowly but surely. you're trying to find a way out, trying to find a way to safety. but for now, you're trapped in this car, surrounded by the undead.
“fuck!” you curse, as you try to move the car, you realize that it's not going anywhere. the zombies are piling up underneath the car, their bodies stacking up like a gruesome barricade. the car starts to lift off the ground, its tires spinning futilely as it tries to gain traction. you're trapped, surrounded by the undead and unable to escape. the car is stuck, lifted off the ground by the sheer weight of the zombies. you're starting to feel a sense of panic, wondering how you'll get out of this situation. the zombies keep coming, piling up underneath the car and making it harder and harder to escape. you see them crawling under the car, their arms reaching up for you like grasping fingers.
you try to rock the car back and forth, hoping to dislodge the zombies and get some traction. but it's no use - there are too many of them, and the car is stuck fast. you're starting to feel a sense of desperation, wondering if you'll ever escape. the zombies are closing in, their moans and groans growing louder and more intense. you know you have to think fast, or you'll be trapped forever. as you look around, you see that the zombies are starting to climb onto the car, their fingers scratching at the windows and doors. you know you have to act fast, or you'll be overwhelmed.
you start to frantically search the car for anything that can help you escape. you check the glove compartment, the center console, but there's nothing that can help you. as you're searching, the car starts to sway back and forth. the zombies are pushing against it, trying to tip it over. you hear the metal creaking and groaning under the pressure. you grab onto the door handle to steady yourself as the car rocks violently. you see the zombies outside, their faces twisted in a snarl as they push against the car. the car's tires screech in protest as it's pushed from side to side. you're starting to feel a sense of motion sickness, your stomach lurching with each sway.
you try to hold on, but it's getting harder and harder. the zombies are relentless, pushing and pushing until the car is teetering on two wheels. you're not sure how much longer the car can take it. you're starting to feel a sense of dread, wondering if you'll be trapped inside when it finally tips over.
you close your eyes and start to pray, begging for a miracle. you're not sure if anyone is listening, but you're desperate for a way out.
"please, god, help me," you whisper, your voice shaking with fear. "i don't want to die like this. i don't want to be trapped in this car with these...things." you feel a sense of desperation wash over you as the car continues to sway. you're running out of time, and you know it. "please, just get me out of here," you pray, your eyes squeezed shut. "i'll do anything. just don't let me die like this."
as you pray, you feel a sense of calm wash over you. it's a small sense of peace, but it's enough to give you hope. you open your eyes and look around, trying to think of a new plan. the zombies are still pushing against the car, but you notice something that stops your train of thought. you hear a muffled, loud voice echoing through the air. it's hard to make out what the voice is saying, but it's loud enough to get the zombies' attention. the undead horde suddenly stops pushing against the car and turns towards the source of the noise. they begin to run, their slow, shuffling gait quickly turning into a frantic sprint.
you follow their gaze and see that they're running towards the school's outside speakers, which are mounted on the walls and poles around the campus. the voice is coming from the speakers, and it's getting louder by the second.
as you crack open the window, the voice on the intercom grows louder, its words becoming clearer. your heart skips a beat as you tune in to the message. "...we'll come get you, so stay put. got it?" suhyeok's voice echoes through the air, sending a shiver down your spine. your pulse quickens at the sound of his voice, and you can't help but wonder - is he talking to you? is he really coming to save you?
"cheongsan-ah," suhyeok continues, his tone laced with a hint of desperation. "i know what you'll say, but we can't hear you here. so don't go anywhere. wait for us. you really can't go anywhere, okay?" you stifle a laugh, biting your lip to hold back the chuckle of disbelief. the situation is too absurd, too surreal. the harsh reality sets in, a cold dose of skepticism tempering your fragile hope. of course, suhyeok wouldn't go out of his way to find you. why would anyone bother to save you? you're not exactly the most important person in the world.
the bitter truth echoes in your mind: you're on your own, and you always have been. no one's coming to rescue you, no hero's going to swoop in and save the day. it's just you, alone and adrift in a sea of chaos. the thought stings, but it's a familiar ache. you've grown accustomed to relying only on yourself, to expecting nothing from others.
suhyeok's voice crackles through the speaker once more, his words trembling with emotion. "..y/n-ah.." your heart skips a beat as you hear your name, the sound sending
shivers down your spine. you instinctively look up at the speaker, as if expecting to see suhyeok standing there.
"im...im not sure..." he clears his throat, his voice laced with uncertainty. "im not sure if you can hear this. please, be safe." the whispered words are meant for himself, but you catch every one, and they pierce your heart like a gentle dagger. tears prick at the corners of your eyes, and you feel your body begin to shake.
"if you can hear me, i need you to meet us at the music room. we need you, come back." suhyeok's voice is stern, as if he's speaking directly in front of you. the words wrap around you like a warm embrace, and you feel a glimmer of hope ignite within. your hand tightens on the steering wheel as your body shakes with quiet sobs. the tears flow freely now, a mix of fear, relief, and longing streaming down your face.
suhyeok's voice echoes through the speakers once more, his words laced with concern. "don't leave by yourself, wherever you are, you should be with us."
you tilt your head back, allowing the tears to fall freely as his words wash over you. your gaze drifts towards the gate, mere meters away, beckoning like a lifeline. the zombies, still entranced by the speakers, claw and scratch at the metal, their mindless fury a stark contrast to the hope rising within you. someone, somehow, is broadcasting a message through the school's PA system, and it's creating a diversion. a spark of possibility ignites within you - maybe, just maybe, this is your chance to escape. you scan your surroundings, and your heart skips a beat as you realize the coast is clear. the zombies, entranced by the speakers, are oblivious to your presence. with a sense of determination, you prepare to make your move, the gate and potential freedom mere steps away.
hroryeong's voice chimes in, her tone laced with a gentle urgency. "y/n-ah, please come back, we can't lose anyone else. especially not you." as you listen, your eyes scan the surroundings, taking in the zombies' distraction and the potential escape route. but your mind begins to wander, and a flashback hits you like a wave. you remember suhyeok's bright, cheerful smile as you both walked home together. the memory is bittersweet, and your heart aches with a mix of emotions.
"fuck it..." you mutter to yourself, the words barely audible. the frustration, and longing all swirl together, and you feel a sense of resignation wash over you. but even as you say it, you know you can't give up. not yet. not when there's a glimmer of hope, no matter how small. you take a deep breath, steeling yourself for what's to come. with a deep breath, you burst into action, dashing out of the car and sprinting across the parking lot with a surge of adrenaline. the meditative music grows louder, its calming melody a stark contrast to the chaos around you. as you run, you risk a glance back, and a mix of relief and fear hits you. the zombies are still entranced by the speakers, their undead bodies clawing at the metal as if trying to silence the voice. they're not following you, but you know that could change at any moment.
you pump your arm harder, your heart racing with every step. the music seems to be leading you somewhere, but you're not sure where. all you know is that you have to keep moving, to find safety and answers. the pounding in your chest grows louder, echoing the music's steady beat, as you run for your life. you sprint towards the building's doors, the music growing louder with every step. as you approach, you see a group of survivors running around the corner of the building, their figures blurry and indistinct. you squint, trying to make out who they are, but your eyes can't quite focus. they're too far away, and your mind is racing with fear and adrenaline. not having time to linger, you bursted open the school doors and closed them behind you.
continuing, you pound the hallway floor with your feet, your heart racing with every step. you can still hear the music, and the sound of footsteps echoing ahead of you. you're determined to catch up to the group, to find safety and answers. as you reach the staircase, you take the steps two at a time, your legs pumping furiously. but as you hit the fifth step, your foot slips on a patch of polished floor. you feel yourself flying backwards, your arms windmilling wildly as you try to regain your balance.
but it's too late. you land hard on the step, the wind knocked out of you. you gasp for breath, your lungs burning as you try to suck in air. your head spins, and for a moment, you see stars. you lie there, dazed and disoriented, as the music continues to play and the footsteps grow fainter. you know you have to get up, to keep moving, but your body feels like lead. you're paralyzed, unable to move or breathe.
slowly, agonizingly slowly, your lungs start to work again. you drag in a ragged breath, and then another, your chest heaving with effort. you roll onto your side, using the handrail to pull yourself up to a sitting position. as you look up, you see a figure standing on the landing above you, looking down with a concerned expression. you try to speak, but your voice is barely a whisper. the figure starts to move towards you, and you realize, with a jolt of fear, that you don't know who it is.
soft words echoes in your mind as the figure reaches out a hand to help you up. but just as you're about to take it, you blink. and when you open your eyes again, the figure is gone. you're left sitting on the stairs, feeling bewildered and disoriented. but as you look up at the spot where the figure was standing, you can't shake the feeling that it was...familiar.
the face, the hair, the gentle smile...it all looked so much like the lady from your dream. the one who appeared to you that one time, her presence a comforting warmth in the darkness. and then it hits you - the lady looked like your mother. you feel a pang in your chest, a mix of emotions swirling together. you barely have any memories of your mother, just fragmented images and a deep sense of loss. but seeing that figure, even for just a moment...it brought it all flooding back. you sit there, frozen, as the music continues to play and the silence stretches out around you. you're not sure what to do, or where to go. all you know is that you saw something, someone, who made you feel seen and remembered. and now they're gone.
you shake off the feeling of unease and continue running up the staircase, your feet pounding the steps. you reach the top and push yourself forward, entering one of the hallways. as you look around, you see rows of classrooms and lockers, the familiar sights of a school. but something feels off. the silence is oppressive, and the shadows cast by the flickering fluorescent lights seem to twist and writhe on the walls. you start to move down the hallway, your eyes scanning the doors and windows. you're not sure what you're looking for, but you know you need to keep moving. the music is still playing, but it's fainter now, and you can't quite make out the words. you strain your ears, trying to pick up any sound that might lead you to the group.
you quicken your pace, your footsteps echoing off the walls. you're getting close, you can feel it.
you round another corner, your heart racing with anticipation. but as you hit the straightaway, you notice something's off. the music isnt playing. you slow to a stop, your ears straining to pick up any sound. and then, you hear it. the snarling, groaning, and shuffling footsteps of zombies. lots of them.
you spin around, and your blood runs cold. a giant horde of zombies is packed into the hallway, their eyes fixed on you. they're trying to run, but the hallway is too tight, and they're bottlenecked. the zombies are stacked up, their arms outstretched, their jaws open in a frenzy of hunger. you see the ones in the back climbing over the ones in the front, desperate to get to you. you're frozen in terror, your mind racing for a way out. but there's nowhere to go. the hallway is blocked, and the zombies are closing in. you take a step back, your eyes scanning the horde. turning to the leftyou see the music room door, but it's too far away. you'll never make it.
the zombies take another step closer, their snarls growing louder. you raise your hands, ready to defend yourself, but you know it's futile. you're surrounded, and you're running out of time.
just as all hope seems lost, you see a glimmer of salvation. suhyeok, namra, and wujin come running from the other end of the hallway, their faces set in determination. namra sees you first, and her eyes widen in alarm. "run!" she shouts, waving her arms wildly. time seems to slow down as you force your burning legs to move. you pump your arms and sprint towards the music room, the zombies mere feet behind. suhyeok sees you and rushes to the door, pushing namra and wujin inside. he holds the door open, his eyes locked on yours, and shouts your name.
"y/n-ah!" he yells, his voice echoing down the hallway. you're almost there, your legs screaming in protest. all you want to do is reach his arms, his arms that kept you safe. you can feel the zombies' hot breath on your neck, their fingers reaching out to grab you. with one final burst of energy, you launch yourself at the door, suhyeok pulling you inside just as the zombies are about to grab you. he slids the door shut with a slam behind you, leaning against it to block the horde. you collapse on the floor, gasping for breath, as suhyeok looks down at you with a mix of relief and aggravation.
suhyeok doesnt wait for you to catch your breath before he leans down and grips on your collared shirt and tightens it as he pulls you close, his eyes blazing. "how many times do i have to save you, dammit?" he shouts, his voice echoing off the music room walls. "stop being an idiot, and think." he shakes you slightly, his fingers digging into your shirt. "we're in this together, now. no more running off on your own!" everyone watches in silence, their faces somber, as suhyeok's words hang in the air. you feel a surge of emotions: guilt, shame, and a hint of defiance.
but as you look into suhyeok's eyes, you see the fear and worry etched there, and your defiance melts away. you nod, slowly, and suhyeok's grip relaxes. "alright, okay..," you say, your voice barely above a whisper. "i won't leave again." suhyeok's expression softens, and he lets go of you. "please," he whispers back.
as you shakily stand up, you can't help but feel a wave of embarrassment wash over you. everyone's staring at you, their faces filled with a mix of relief and concern. "we're glad you're back," namra says, smiling weakly. "we thought you were dead, idiot," wujin adds, shaking his head. but before anyone else can speak, onjo steps forward, a scowl on his face. "what were you thinking, running off like that?" she demands, her voice low and stern. and then, without warning, she slaps your bad arm, making you wince in pain. "you could have gotten yourself killed," she scolds, her eyes blazing with worry. you feel a surge of tears prick at the corners of your eyes as you rub your sore arm. "i'm sorry," you mutter, looking down at your feet. cheongsan steps forward, his face tense. "onjo, that's enough," he says, his voice firm but calm. but onjo just shakes her head. "no, cheongsan, he needs to learn. we can't afford to lose anyone else. both of you need to learn.”
overwhelmed with emotion, you feel a gentle touch on your shoulder. you turn to see hroryeong standing there, a warm smile on her face. "i'm so glad you're back," she says, her voice trembling. before you can respond, she wraps her arms around you, pulling you into a gentle hug. you feel a lump form in your throat as you hug her back, tears of relief and gratitude streaming down your face. "i.. we were so worried," she whispers, her voice muffled against your shoulder.
you hesitantly pat he back, feeling a sense of comfort and safety in her embrace. the pain in your arm fades into the background as you savor the niceness of her hug. "i'm sorry," you whisper back, your voice shaking. "i won't leave again." hroryeong pulls back, her eyes shining with tears. "i know you won't," she says, smiling softly. "we're in this together."
the others watch, smiling, as you and hroryeong share a moment of tender connection. for a brief instant, the horrors of the zombie-infested school fade away, replaced by a sense of hope and unity. while you pull back from hroryeong's hug, you take a moment to look around the room. the music room is small, with chairs and music stands scattered about. but what catches your attention is who's not there.
"where's ms. park?" you ask, scanning the room again.
wujin’s expression turns grim. "we don't know.” you feel a pang of worry. ms. park was always the calm and collected one. if she's not here... "what about gyeongsu?" you ask, hoping against hope.
jimin shakes her head. "nayeon murdered him." your heart sinks. gyeongsu’s laughing face flashed in your eyes from when you were just talking yesterday. you stared frozen and in shock, you look around to see everyones glum expressions. “wait what?” you ask in disbelief. jimin steps forward, her eyes clouded with bitterness. "nayeon...she wiped that dead girl's leftover blood that was on the stick and onto the scratch on his hand. he got infected and she lied about doing it," she says, her voice hesitant. “namra called her out and she confessed to murdering him. she left and ms.. park went after her.” she finished with a tear falling from her eye.
"what do you mean?" you press, feeling a sense of unease. jimin takes a deep breath. you feel a chill run down your spine. "what do you mean he turned?" everyone stayed quiet as you couldnt believe what you were hearing, you're horrified. "nayeon did that?"
daesu nods. "fuck..” you say while you feel your heart ache, one of your new friends was gone. someone who made you comfortable, someone you wished you could go back and time and just tell him how much of a good friend he had been. not to you, but to everyone around him. he was a good person, why did that have to happen to him?
“ill kill her if i see her,” you sniffled while rubbing your eyes. the room falls silent, the weight of your words sinking in. nayeon's actions are unfathomable. and ms. park, always the protector, went after her, leaving the rest of you behind. “don't talk like that,” suhyeok speaks up with a shake of his head. “when you stoop to her level youre no better than she is.” he places a hand on your back. “lets just, take a minute and, take a breath.” he announces to everyone who nods.
hroryeong gently takes your arm, leading you to sit beside her. as you settle in, you're unaware of jimin's gaze fixed on you both from across the room, her eyes narrowed slightly as she closes the curtains. "how are we going to get to the roof?" hroryeong asks, her voice soft as she holds your arm. her sudden display of affection catches you off guard, making you feel a weird twist in your stomach. you try to focus on the question at hand, but it's difficult with suhyeok and jimin staring at you both. their attention makes you feel like you're under a microscope. "there are zombies out there," suhyeok says, his eyes scanning the room as if searching for an escape route. "let's just think this through for a minute."
the weight of their gazes still lingers, making you feel like you're the center of attention. you try to shake off the feeling, focusing on the task at hand: finding a way to the roof.
while you glance around the room, you can't help but feel a sense of comfort in the presence of your peers. you've missed them dearly, but the words to express it get stuck in your throat. hroryeong's hand tightens around your arm, pulling your attention back to her. she slowly stands up, her eyes fixed on something behind you. you follow her gaze, peeking over her shoulder to see what's caught her attention.
"hey, namra. what happened to your arm?" hroryeong asks, her voice trembling slightly. you try to see what's wrong with namra's arm, but from your seated position, it's out of sight. hroryeong's concern, however, is concerning. "i-its a bite mark, isn't it?" hroryeong's voice cracks as she asks the question, her eyes wide with worry.
namra's silence is deafening, her gaze fixed on her arm as if the answer lies there. cheongsan's reaction is swift and menacing, grabbing a music sheet holder and advancing towards namra with a threatening stride.the room erupts into chaos as everyone scrambles to get away from namra, but you remain frozen, your body unmoving like a statue. hroryeong tries to pull you away, but you resist, your feet rooted to the spot.
suhyeok steps forward, placing himself between cheongsan and namra. "it's not what it looks like," he says firmly, his eyes locked on cheongsan. cheongsan snarls, telling suhyeok to move away, but he refuses to budge. wujin stands beside him, a united front against cheongsan's aggression. "it's true," wujin chimes in. "a zombie didn't bite her." he says a single word, "gwinam," and cheongsan's face falters, her confidence wavering for a moment. the room holds its breath, waiting for cheongsan's next move.
"he bit her. it wasn't zombies," he finishes, his voice firm. the name "gwinam" crawls under your skin, making your legs buckle. you lose balance and plop down on the chair, your mind reeling. "w-who?" cheongsan asks, her voice laced with skepticism. "gwinam. the bully," suhyeok replies, his eyes flicking to you before returning to cheongsan. "it's true, i saw him. we all did." wujin chimes in, pointing to namra and himself.
"yoon gwinam?" cheongsan asks again, her voice incredulous. wujin nods his head, and cheongsan turns to namra for confirmation. "namra, did gwinam really bite you?" she asks, her voice firm but laced with a hint of doubt. you turn to look at namra, who nods slightly, her eyes downcast. you curse underneath your breath, the truth sinking in like a punch to the gut.
"fuck, there should be others alive then," you exclaim, a glimmer of hope sparking within you. jimin's curiosity is piqued, and she pushes off from the curtains to approach you. "what do you mean?" she asks, her eyes locked on yours. you take a deep breath, recalling the moment. "when i heard you guys on the broadcast, while i was running, i thought...i thought i saw a group of people, teens." you correct yourself, remembering the details. "but they looked normal, not bit." the room erupts into a mix of excitement and disbelief, everyone grasping onto the possibility that they might not be the only survivors.
cheongsan's expression, however, remains skeptical. "that's not possible," he says, his voice firm. you turn to him, confusion etched on your face. "i saw them-" but he cuts you off with a calm shake of his head. "no, not that," he clarifies. "gwinam," he gestures to namra, "he was bitten by zombies." suhyeok lets out a disbelieving scoff. "bullshit," he says, his tone incredulous. the room falls silent, awaiting cheongsan's explanation.
"i saw him get bit," cheongsan counters, his voice steady, his eyes unwavering. "if you get bitten by zombies, you turn into one," he continues, his logic trailing off as wujin interrupts, his voice rising in frustration.
"he's not a zombie! motherfucker was talking to us," wujin exclaims, his words laced with emotion. you turn to namra, seeking answers. "but...why did he bite you then?" you ask, your eyes locked on hers. namra's gaze meets yours, a glint of something in her eye - desperation, perhaps, or a plea for understanding. you're not quite sure, but it's clear she's searching for something. wujin answers for her, his voice still laced with anger. "he's always been an asshole, i don't know." you nod in agreement, your eyes drifting to cheongsan, who still grasps the music sheet stand, his grip tight, ready to strike at a moment's notice. "that i can agree on," you say, your voice measured, your eyes never leaving cheongsan's.
"so can you put the damn thing down?" wujin asks, his agitation growing, his voice rising as he gestures towards the music sheet stand still clutched in cheongsan's hand.
"did gwinam really get bitten?" namra asks cheongsan, who nods solemnly, his expression grim. without warning, namra strides over to the window, sweeps the curtain aside with a swift motion, and opens it, letting in a warm breeze. she climbs up to sit on the windowsill, her movements swift and deliberate, as if driven by a sudden urge.
you rush to stop her, but hroryeong's arm wraps around yours like a clamp, holding you back. "she's bitten!" she warns, her voice low and urgent, her eyes wide with concern. you shake your head, trying to free yourself, and call out to namra. "namra, don't do it!" your voice echoes through the room, filled with a sense of desperation. namra looks up at you, her eyes blinking slowly as if considering your words, her gaze unfocused. "you haven't turned yet, so it's okay. everything's fine," you try to reassure her, and the others, hoping to calm the situation.
as you turn to face the room, you notice jimin prying hroryeong's hand off your arm, her touch solid. jimin sends you a look, and for a moment, you wonder if it's jealousy flashing in her eyes, or just uneasiness. you seem to be inadvertently angering a lot of people lately, just by existing, and it's getting harder to keep up.
“wait, i've got an idea,” you say, a spark of inspiration igniting as you walk over to namra and gaze at the curtains beside her. you grab the curtains and bring them towards her, “we can tie her arms so she can't reach us if she turns,” you begin, trying to reassure the others. you glance around, noticing the skepticism etched on their faces. undeterred, you continue, “and put the desks in a circle around her, so if she gets loose, the desks will slow her down. we'll figure out what to do from there.”
cheongsan slowly nods, a hint of agreement on his face. “it's gonna be okay, namra,” you whisper, turning to her with a reassuring smile. namra looks at you with a mix of affection and disbelief, as if she can't fathom why you're going to such great lengths to keep her alive.
“i wondered why i never tried to talk to you,” she says, her voice barely above a whisper, her eyes locked on yours. you pause, the curtain tie hovering near her wrist, as you meet her gaze. “but i see now, you're really a lot more than i thought you were,” she continues, her words dripping with a sense of wonder and newfound appreciation. the room falls silent, the only sound the soft rustling of the curtains, as you hold namra's gaze, the connection between you palpable.
your face is frozen in stunned silence, your eyes still locked on namra's, the moment everlasting. however, the spell is broken as wujin approaches, his voice slicing through the tension. "i got it, y/n-ah," he says, his words a gentle nudge, prompting you to back away, your hand rising to scratch the back of your head in a gesture of awkwardness. clearing your throat, you nod, trying to shake off the intensity of the moment. you flash namra a small, reassuring smile before turning to make your way back to cheongsan and onjo, who are engaged in a hushed but heated conversation.
their voices are low, but their body language speaks volumes - stiff postures, clenched fists, and narrowed eyes. you can't help but wonder what's fueling their disagreement, and whether it's related to the current situation or something deeper.
as you approach cheongsan and onjo, you notice the others springing into action, their movements swift and purposeful. hroryeong and jimin begin to drag desks across the floor, forming a makeshift barrier around namra, who watches with a mixture of curiosity and concern. "make sure they're secure," cheongsan calls out, his eyes never leaving onjo's face, their argument momentarily put on hold.
joonyeong joins in, his muscles straining as he lifts a desk into place. "we need to make sure she can't get out," he grunts, his face set in determination. the desks form a tight circle around namra, who looks like a wild animal trapped in a cage. her eyes dart back and forth, with a linear expression "it's okay, namra," you say, trying to reassure her, but your words fall flat. she knows as well as you do that this is a temporary solution, a desperate attempt to contain the inevitable. as the last desk is put in place, the group steps back, their faces etched with worry and uncertainty. what happens next is anyone's guess.
the group stands in silence, their eyes fixed on namra, who sits quietly in the center of the desk circle. the air is thick with tension, heavy with the weight of unspoken fears. cheongsan breaks the silence, his voice low and even. "we need to figure out what to do next." onjo nods, his expression grim. "we can't keep her here forever." you sense tension between their words. hroryeong speaks up, her voice laced with concern. "but what if she...what if she turns?" jimin places a hand on her arm, her eyes locked on namra. "we'll cross that bridge when we come to it." wujin shifts uncomfortably, his eyes darting between namra and the others. "we should...we should try to find a cure." namra's head snaps up, her eyes locking onto wujin's. "there is no cure," she says, her voice barely above a whisper. the group falls silent again, the reality of their situation sinking in. they're trapped, with no clear way out, and time is running out. "maybe there is a cure, and we just don't know it yet," you say, a glimmer of hope in your voice.
the others begin to nod, and soon they're all sitting down, discussing possibilities and theories. the room is filled with the hum of conversation, a sense of determination in the air. you, however, remain standing, your eyes fixed on namra. you walk over to a nearby chair and sit down, your gaze never leaving hers. she looks up, catching your eye, and for a moment, you just stare at each other.
meanwhile, suhyeok sits down beside you, his eyes fixed on you with an unreadable expression. you can feel his gaze, but you don't turn to him, your attention still on namra. "what are you thinking?" suhyeok asks, his voice low, but you just shake your head, your eyes still locked on namra. the conversation continues around you, but you tune it out, your focus solely on namra. you're trying to understand her, to read her, to see if there's any sign of...anything.
suhyeok follows your gaze, his eyes also fixed on namra. "you really think there's a cure, don't you?" he asks, his voice barely above a whisper. you nod, still not looking away from namra. "i have to believe it," you say, your voice equally quiet. suhyeok nods, his eyes still on namra. "i think you might be right," he says, his voice filled with a newfound sense of hope. the others continue to discuss and debate, their voices rising and falling in a cacophony of sound. but you and suhyeok sit in silence, your eyes fixed on namra, who seems to be watching you both with an intensity that makes your skin prickle.
as the minutes tick by, the room begins to settle, the conversation dying down as the weight of the situation sinks in. but you and suhyeok remain vigilant, your eyes never leaving namra's face. you notice a subtle change in namra's appearance, a faint discoloration around her left eye. it's a faint pinkish hue, almost imperceptible, but it's enough to make your heart skip a beat. the rest of her face, however, looks fine, no signs of illness or distress. but then, namra's hand rises to her mouth, and she begins to wipe her lips, as if she's salivating excessively. her eyes dart around the room, a hint of panic creeping into her gaze.
"namra, what's wrong?" you ask, your voice laced with concern. she doesn't respond, too focused on her own body. her hand moves to her eye, touching the infected area gingerly. "oh no, oh no, oh no," hroryeong whispers, her voice trembling. the others lean in, their faces etched with worry. cheongsan's eyes lock onto namra's, his expression grim.
"we need to get her out of here, now," he says, his voice firm. onjo grabs cheongsan's arm, holding him back. "wait, cheongsan, don't! let's give her a chance. maybe she won't...maybe she'll be okay." cheongsan's face twists in anguish, but he just stares, his eyes never leaving namra's convulsing form. namra's body slows, her limbs relaxing as she gazes up at you. her eyes, once bright and warm, now have a glint of...something else. a hunger, a craving, a primal urge that makes your skin crawl. she tries to walk towards you, her movements slow, deliberate. the others watch in horror, frozen in place. "namra, no," you whisper, trying to reach out to her, but she doesn't respond. her eyes lock onto yours, and you feel a shiver run down your spine. it's as if she's seeing you for the first time, seeing you as...prey. "namra, snap out of it!" wujin shouts, trying to break the spell, but she doesn't flinch. only when the curtains hold her from walking any further towards you.
then, just as suddenly as it began, everything stops. namra's body freezes, her eyes glaze over, and she collapses to the ground, unconscious. the room exhales a collective breath, the tension broken. but you know it's far from over. something inside namra has awakened, and it's only a matter of time before it takes control again.
namra's face, once twisted in a snarl, relaxes, her features smoothing out as she exhales a deep breath. her eyes, once gleaming with an otherworldly hunger, return to their natural warm brown, filled with a deep exhaustion. she sits up, her movements slow and labored, as if she's been drained of all energy. her hands tremble as she pushes her hair back, revealing a face pale and clammy. "namra?" you whisper, reaching out a hand to her. she looks up, her eyes locking onto yours, and for a moment, you see a glimmer of recognition, of the person she once was. "i think shes fine," wujin mutters. “she wouldve definitely turned by now,” joonyeong says.
namra's voice trembles as she speaks, her words spilling out in a rush. "i'm not okay...i wanted to bite you...i wanted to be as close to you as possible...i could smell your sweat..." her eyes drop, shame and horror written across her face. the others exchange worried glances, unsure of how to respond. onjo, moves the desks and walks up to her. puts a hand on namra's shoulder, trying to comfort her. "namra, we'll get through this," she says softly. "we'll find a way to reverse whatever is happening to you."
but namra shakes her head, her voice barely above a whisper. "you don't understand...i wanted to hurt him...i wanted to taste him..." her words hang in the air, a dark and foreboding cloud. you feel a shiver run down your spine as you realize the true extent of namra's transformation. “you guys arent safe, i should go,” namra tries to quickly leave through the classroom doors but onjo stops her in her place. “wait,” she turns to cheongsan. “you saw gwinam get bitten by zombies?” to which he rolls his eyes.
"i told you a hundred times, yes," cheongsan exhales, his eyes darting to the floor before meeting onjo's gaze. "and you saw him turn?" onjo presses, her voice laced with skepticism. cheongsan hesitates, his eyes dropping again. "no, i didn't." the group exchanges confused glances, unsure of what to make of cheongsan's admission. onjo turns to suhyeok, her eyes narrowing. "suhyeok, you definitely fought gwinam?" suhyeok stands, his voice firm. "yes, i did.” he meets your gaze, and you sense a understanding pass between you. onjo's words hang in the air, a theory taking shape. "there's no reason for either to lie," onjo says, her voice filled with conviction. "maybe gwinam was bitten but not affected. i think he's immune."
jimin speaks up, her tone bitter. "still, she tried to bite him." her eyes flash with fear and distrust. "regardless, she isn't normal. so i'm not going with her." you rise to your feet, your eyes wide in disbelief. "jimin, stop," hroryeong pleads, placing a hand on jimin's arm. but jimin shakes her off, her gaze fixed on namra, who sits silently, her eyes downcast. the group's tension rising, divided loyalties and fears hanging precariously in the balance.
"what? are you saying that i'm wrong?" jimin taunts, her voice dripping with defiance. but no one responds, the group's silence a testament to their uncertainty. suddenly, namra springs into action, her movements swift and determined. "enough!" she exclaims, her voice ringing out as she rushes to the door, intent on leaving. but onjo is quicker, grabbing namra's arm before you can even react. "stop! where will you even go?" onjo asks, her voice laced with concern. namra struggles against onjo's grip, but she holds firm. "hyeonju and isak's hands were cold when they turned," onjo pleads, her eyes locked on namra's. "namra's are warm. that means something."
jimin scoffs, her expression unyielding. "so? that means nothing, she could still turn. what then?" onjo's face twists in frustration. "jimin, stop acting like this. we need to work together." but jimin refuses to back down. "no, onjo, you're the one who's being blind. we can't trust her." the group's tension escalates, the debate raging on as namra stands frozen, her eyes fixed on the door, longing for escape.
"guys!" you say firmly, your voice commanding attention. "we're not going to survive this if we dont trust together. jimin, i understand your concerns, but you need to consider the fact that namra is immune to the virus. she could be the key to our survival." jimin crosses her arms, her expression unyielding. "i don't care," she says. "i'm not going to risk my life for someone who might turn on us at any moment.”
"that's exactly my point," you say, your voice firm. "we can't just abandon each other. we need to work together if we're going to make it through this." the group looks at you, some nodding in agreement, others looking uncertain. "here's what we could do," you continue. "we could set up a schedule for keeping watch, making sure everyone gets rest. we could work together to find food and supplies. and watch eachothers backs." jimin scowls, but you can see the faintest glimmer of understanding in her eyes. "namra, try to work with us to understand your immunity," you say. "we'll figure out how to use it to our advantage." namra nods, a small amount of gratitude on her face. "and jimin," you say, your voice firm. "you're gonna have to learn to trust." jimin nods reluctantly, but you can see the tension in her body begin to ease.
“alright, lets get started.”

Taglists
Hi hi. So I decided, after some thinking, to make this. Basically, if you wanna be on a taglist, you'd put the emoji that is next to the character or collection name, or just tell me what ones you want to be a part of. If you're already on one list but wanna be on multiple, just let me know. Or if you wanna be taken off, just let me know.
I suppose I'm doing this because I think it kinda makes sense. Like not everyone who reads Love Line Collection wants to read Life Line Collection and vice versa. Hopefully this works out, and hopefully this setup makes sense. But yeah.
Don't even know if I'm doing this right, lol.
(Gonna take this bit off later. But for those of you on the Love Line Collection taglist, as I post this. I haven't put you on any other lists just yet. Because I'm not sure who wants just the Love Line Collection and who wants to see whatever else I post. So please let me know.)

SIC EP12
🤯 The very beginning of the episode was packed between revelations about Hye-eun and flirting with Jun-hyeok. He somehow managed the perfect balance.

🥰 I really enjoyed speaking to Jun-hyeok. Our chemistry is indeed off the charts. We're comfortable with each other, and there's real trust between us that makes opening up to each other easy. The more I get to know and understand him, the more I love him. We've basically admitted we want to end up together, though the game won't take that into account.

🤯 Hye-eun is even worse than I thought. She's a self-centered, entitled gold digger with zero manners. Though they were in the same group of friends, she never spoke to him until he was made VP of his family business. Says a lot about her.
😶 Jun-hyeok, sweetie, I love you, but you're way too naive. Hye-eun not speaking to you until you were made VP, should have been enough not to take her on a date. Thankfully, she wasn't shy about showing her real self on the one date she got. You really dodged a bullet. Also, if you don't want women going after you for your money and status, don't take them to exclusive restaurants on first dates. Having the money doesn't mean you have to flaunt it. The poor little rich boy act is kind of cute, but it's time for a reality check.
😡 Jun-hyeok and I were getting closer, and of course, just as we're about to kiss, the master of Inferno had to interrupt. I love that Jun-hyeok tried to be positive about the interruption, but I wasn't amused.

🤣 Hye-eun took Kyoung-won to Paradise, thinking she could steal him from me. It backfired. It's clear Kyoung-won didn't fall for her tricks and wants nothing to do with her. I'd have felt sorry for her seeing how clearly shaken she was by the experience if she hadn't been such a biatch.
🥳 I enjoyed making Hye-eun's mask crack thanks to Jun-hyeok's tip that questioning her gracefulness would shake her confidence. I loved even more the complicity I shared with Jun-hyeok by doing so, and the fact that I got you defend Kyoung-won from Hye-eun's vicious attack in the process.
😡 I wish the game would stop pushing Gun-woo on me. Why would he think I would want to pair up with him for the challenge? I've been done with him for a while now. I wish he would leave me alone. I wish I was given the option to tell him he should pair up with Chae-won. I ended up pairing up with Min-seo in whom I have zero interest, and I told her as much when asked.
🙄 I never for one second trusted Hye-eun when she pretended she had a flag for me. I knew she was up to something. Joke is on her. I'm not into Min-seo, and I don't trust her (Hye-eun).
🙃 I thought I would get sent home, but instead, I got sent to Inferno 2. That's much better. I actually prefer the setting of Inferno 2. It is much more intimate and much more conducive to forming a deeper connection.
😁 I liked my Inferno 2 crew. Especially Ji-hu. The boy has always had my back. Knowing he was going to be there made it better.
😍 Inferno 2 with Ji-hu was a revelation. I can't believe he gave up his flag so he could be with me. Between trying to break into the dorm, spear fishing together, his gift of the pearl, truth or dare, and the bonfire, we really grew closer to each other. Ji-hu is the ultimate LI. I didn't see Kyoung-won or Jun-hyeok give up their flags to be with me.

😡 I hate how the game doesn't really take into account our choices. When I left for Inferno 2, Kyoung-won said, "Be safe," but Jun-hyeok didn't even interact with me. Given the interaction on the beach, especially our almost kiss, I would have expected him to say something to me, even if it was just him chocking on my name out of sadness.
😶 Seo-jun's arrival could have thrown a wrench into the harmony we had found on Inferno 2. However, since we stuck to our guns and decided to be civil to him, it didn't happen.
😶 Who would have thought? Seo-jun actually has a sense of humour. I don't think he's that bad, to be honest. He's just someone who is actually very insecure and constantly self sabotages. There's no way I would ever choose him over Ji-hu, Jun-hyeok, or Kyoung-won. Over Gun-woo? Maybe. I'm glad however that he is trying to change.
🤣 Ji-hu pranking Seo-jun was funny. I like that I have a partner in crime in him. I love his mischievous side.
😍 I love that I got to see other sides of Ji-hu. He is very resourceful and caring. I love that he doesn't give up easily. He seems determined to win me over despite the number of people vying for my attention. After our Inferno 2 experience, I'll admit that I'm very tempted to give him a chance.

🤯 We're heading back to Inferno 1 already? That was fast. I wonder what the surprise is.
😵💫 Just an observation. Funny how everyone but MC gets to change clothes. We were all supposed to be in swimwears but MC was still wearing a dress. Before that, MC was in physical challenge clothes while Jun-hyeok and Su-bin were in evening wear. In other games, everyone keeps the same clothes while MC gets to change. In SIC, everyone changes clothes while MC keeps the same clothes on. Very peculiar.

Ik this isn’t trending anymore can you pls do the “Can you watch my boyfriend” trend with All of us are dead boys?
𝐖𝐀𝐓𝐂𝐇 𝐌𝐘 𝐁𝐎𝐘𝐅𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐃 𝐀𝐎𝐔𝐀𝐃
1. Lee Cheong-san
You:"Hey, can you watch my boyfriend for like an hour?"
Su-hyeok:"Sure, he’s harmless. Probably just gonna eat and vibe."
30 minutes later…
Su-hyeok:"He’s currently in a standoff with a pigeon outside 7-Eleven."
You:"What??"
Su-hyeok:"He said, and I quote, ‘That feathery bastard looked at me funny.’ Now he's throwing rice like it's a Pokémon battle. Come. Get. Him."
2. Yoon Gwi-nam
You:"Can you please watch my boyfriend while I run errands?"
Wu-jin:"Hell no."
You:"Just an hour!"
Wu-jin: "Ugh, fine. But I’m not bailing him out if he commits a felony."
10 minutes later…
Wu-jin:"He’s got a knife. I don’t know where it came from."
You:"WHAT KIND OF KNIFE"
Wu-jin:"A shiny one. He bit a guy for bumping into him. He smiled.I’m going home, figure it out."
3. Lee Su-hyeok
You:"Hey can you watch Su-hyeok for me?"
Cheong-san:"Sure, he's my guy. Easy."
An hour later…
Cheong-san:"So far he’s helped two elderly ladies cross the street, adopted a stray cat, and gave his lunch to a hungry kid."
You: "Aw, that’s sweet!"
Cheong-san:"No. No it’s not. He's too perfect. My self-esteem is in shambles. Come get Captain Korea."
4. Jang Wu-jin
You: "Watch my bf for a bit?"
Gyeong-su:"Yeah, he seems chill."
20 minutes later…
Gyeong-su:"He’s yelling at a raccoon outside the convenience store. He said it ‘disrespected his noodles.’"
You: "What is he doing now?"
Gyeong-su:"Squaring up. Like full-on fighting stance. I think the raccoon’s winning."
5.Han Gyeong-su
You:"Can you keep an eye on my boyfriend today?"
Joon-yeong:"Of course! I love Gyeong-su!"
30 minutes later…
Joon-yeong:"We found a baby bird. He named it ‘Chirpie’ and is now composing a lullaby while softly cradling it in his hoodie pocket."
You:"Cute?"
Joon-yeong:"He’s crying. I’m crying. We’re both emotionally invested in Chirpie’s life story."
6. Kim Cheol-soo
You: "Mind watching Cheol-soo for me?"
Hyung-seo:"Yeah sure, he's quiet anyway."
Ten minutes later…
Hyung-seo: "He just roasted a teacher so badly the man left the building. Not walked out—LEFT. Vanished."
You: "…What did he say?"
Hyung-seo: "He told him his breath smells like regret and his PowerPoints have no soul. I’m terrified. Come get your gremlin."
7. Lee Jin-su
You: "Can someone watch my boyfriend for a while?"
Myeong-hwan:"Meh. I guess."
Later…
Myeong-hwan:"He’s sitting in a dark room, mumbling to the shadows. I swear one of them moved."
You: "He's just dramatic."
Myeong-hwan:"No, he's possessed. I think he just named the shadow Greg.I’m out."
8. Oh Joon-yeong
You: "Can you watch my smart little bookworm of a bf?"
Do-min:"Sure. Probably going to read or organize stuff."
45 minutes later…
Do-min:"He re-organized my entire shelf. By trauma level. What does ‘books that hurt like a breakup’ mean???"
You:"That’s just how he copes."
Do-min: "He made me a color-coded chart and a playlist. Help."
9. Shin Hyung-seo
You:"Can you keep Hyung-seo company today?"
Cheong-san:"No prob."
20 minutes later…
Cheong-san:"We’re knee-deep in a philosophical conversation about zombie morality. He asked if the infected feel guilt."
You:"Deep thinker."
Cheong-san: "I asked for a hangout, not an existential crisis. He’s crying. I’m crying. Please retrieve your sad poet."
10. Son Myeong-hwan
You:"Hey can you watch my boyfriend for a bit?"
Su-hyeok:"Alright, what’s the worst that can happen?"
15 minutes later…
Su-hyeok:"He insulted three people, threatened a vending machine, and called a baby ‘weak.’"
You:"Did he at least smile?"
Su-hyeok:"Only when the vending machine spit out two sodas. It was unholy."
11. Jang Do-min
You:"Watch my bf, pls."
Wu-jin:"Sure. He seems quiet."
Later…
Wu-jin:"He solved a math problem that’s not even in the curriculum, accused the government of hiding zombie data, and built a conspiracy board with string."
You: Normal Tuesday."
Wu-jin:"He said the virus is a metaphor for social decay. I think I’m in love. But also terrified."

in a flash of adrenaline-fueled strength, cheongsan wrenched the wooden frame from the classroom window sill and brought it crashing down on the zombie's skull, shattering the glass and sending the undead attacker tumbling to the ground. the sudden motion freed you from the zombie's deadly grasp, but the relief was short-lived as you collapsed to the floor, your shoulder throbbing in agony, feeling as though it had been torn from its socket. hroryeong rushed to your side, her voice laced with panic, "did it get you? you weren't bit, right?" but your response was reduced to a mere moan, your body consumed by an overwhelming tide of pain. with gentle urgency, hroryeong propped you against the wall, easing you off the cold floor. as your head lolled back against the wall, she pleaded with you to get up, but her words were drowned out by the cacophony of pain screaming through your mind, rendering you unable to respond.
a whispered curse escaped your lips as you struggled to hold back the tears welling up in your eyes, desperate to maintain a semblance of composure in front of your peers. the girls closed in around you, a wall of support, as you turned to witness the boys employing makeshift wooden frames to hold off the undead. but then, daesu burst into action, ripping an entire classroom door from its hinges with a fierce battle cry. "hey!" he blared, "get out of the way!" the boys scrambled to clear a path as daesu charged forward, door held aloft like a shield. with a series of swift, precise shoves, he blocked the zombie horde, creating a crucial barrier.
inspired by daesu's bravery, the boys rallied behind him, pushing forward with renewed determination, their collective momentum building as they fought to reclaim ground from the relentless undead.
with a shared glance, the girls nodded in unison, swiftly moving to support you. they carefully draped your one functional arm over hroryeong's shoulder, forming a united front as they navigated the treacherous hallways. the boys, meanwhile, strained against the undead horde, their grunts of exertion echoing through the corridors as they stumbled forward, blindly rounding corners.
upon reaching the stairwell, the boys seized the opportunity to redirect the zombies down the stairs, creating a temporary barrier. the girls, undaunted, collectively lifted you up the upper stairs, their footsteps a testament to their determination. summoning every last ounce of energy, you pushed through the pain, refusing to become a burden, and ran alongside them, your feet pounding the stairs in a desperate bid for safety.
the boys clattered the stairs behind you, their footsteps closing in as they struggled to catch up. meanwhile, hroryeong had swiftly pulled you into the first available hallway on the next floor, but her hasty decision soon proved misguided - the corridor was already teeming with stumbling zombies. in a flash, the girls' voices rose in unison, "go! go!" as they propelled you up another staircase, desperate to outrun the undead. you winced in pain, your makeshift sling threatening to unravel amidst the chaos. "it's... slipping," you ground out through gritted teeth, alerting hroryeong to the danger.
with a panicked gasp, she swiftly resecured the sling, her fingers shaking as she worked. simultaneously, the boys surged forward, forming a barrier between you and the ravenous horde, their bodies blocking the zombies that had been drawn by the commotion.
jimin spun around, her eyes locking onto daesu as he sprinted towards her, the wooden door clutched in his hands. but her gaze quickly shifted, her eyes widening in alarm as she spotted something lurking behind him. "daesu! watch out!" she yelled, her voice piercing the chaos. daesu reacted swiftly, spinning to face the new threat and hoisting the door like a shield, blocking the zombies' advance. but their respite was short-lived, as they found themselves encircled, the undead closing in on all sides.
you glanced up, wincing in pain, and saw that you were trapped, pinned between the zombies and a single, tantalizing doorway. "jimin-ah!" you shouted, grabbing her attention, and nodded frantically towards the door. jimin rushed to the door, only to find it locked, her face contorting in frustration. "shit, it's locked! we need a-a key or something to open it!" she shouts, her voice carrying to the others. daesu and jimin exchanged tense words, their argument fueled by the desperation to escape, their voices rising as the zombies closed in.
in a rapid, determined move, onjo commanded daesu to push back against the zombies with renewed force. meanwhile, she crawled forward with a sense of purpose, her hands grasping for the school's fire hose, coiled and ready for emergency use. she wielded the hose's metal nozzle like a hammer, pounding relentlessly against the metal lock. as the group held their collective breath, their exhausted muscles screaming in protest, hroryeong buried her face in your shoulder, her body trembling with fear. in a poignant reversal of roles, you found yourself now offering comfort and support to the girl who had once helped you.
"onjo, please!" hroryeong begged, her voice trembling with fear as tears streamed down her face. onjo summoned every last ounce of strength, her final swing landing with a resounding clang as the lock yielded, the door creaking open in defeat.
with a collective sigh of relief, the girls surged forward, pouring into the classroom like a dark tide. you ushered hroryeong across the threshold first, ensuring each of them reached safety before turning to daesu, who still lingered outside. "guys! it's open, come on!" you urged, your hand reaching out to pat daesu's shoulder as you held the door open, a beacon of hope in the chaos.
in a final, desperate bid for safety, the boys heaved against the door with all their might, then turned to sprint into the classroom. but in the chaos, cheongsan's foot caught on a splintered wooden plank, shattered remnants of the window frame, and he stumbled. a zombie, sensing vulnerability, began to crawl towards him with eerie speed.
without hesitation, you dashed out into the fray, ignoring the girls' frantic pleas from inside. you grasped cheongsan's arm, yanking him to his feet, and dragged him towards the door, his legs scrambling to keep up. releasing your grip, you spun to slam the door shut, the zombies' snarls and thuds echoing through the room as you leaned against the door, your heart ringing in your ears. breathless, you slid down the door, holding it closed, and glanced down at your shirt - now more tattered and filthy than ever.
as you caught your breath, the reality of your situation sank in. the zombies' relentless pounding on the door echoed through the room, a grim reminder of the horrors outside. the girls huddled together, their eyes wide with fear, while the boys stood frozen, unsure of what to do next. nayeons voice trembled as she spoke, "w-we can't stay here. we have to find another way out." but her words trailed off, lost in the uncertainty that gripped them all.
in a hair-raising moment, daesu's scream pierced the air as a zombie's bloody hand clamped onto his face and hair, its fingers digging deep into his skin. the creature's torso had wriggled halfway through the shattered window, its eyes fixed on daesu with a ravenous gleam.
without hesitation, joonyeong sprang into action, grabbing a fire extinguisher and slamming it into the zombie's head with a loud crash. the creature's grip faltered, its body slumping backward as it tumbled out of the window. but in the chaos, joonyeong's wild swing had shattered another pane, leaving a gaping hole in the wall.
"get a desk!" cheongsan yelled, his voice ringing out as the group scrambled to respond. in a flurry of movement, they heaved chairs and desks into place, forming another barricade to block the windows. everyone except you rushed to help, their faces set with determination as they worked to secure their fragile sanctuary.
tempers frayed as nayeon's angry voice was heard, her words aimed squarely at onjo. "how could you lose it?" she shouted, her frustration palpable.
before you could even process what had been lost, gyeongsu intervened, his practicality a stark contrast to nayeon's emotion. "who cares?" he said gruffly, as he grasped another desk, his focus fixed on the task at hand. "we gotta secure the room now," he stated, his eyes locked on the front of the room as he headed back to join the others.
a fleeting sense of calm was shattered as nayeon's biting remark sliced through the air: "like you can talk." the familiar spark of animosity between her and gyeongsu was unmistakable, their long-standing dynamic of constant bickering rearing its head even in the face of catastrophic danger.
as you witnessed the exchange, it was clear that their petty squabbles had become a deeply ingrained habit, a reflexive pattern of behavior that persisted even as life and death hung in the balance.
gyeongsu's scoff dripped with loathing. "it's your fault we're in this mess. you were supposed to block the door and you didn't." nayeon stood her ground, her chin held high, as she delivered the final blow: "and if you had actually done what you were supposed to, then the gym teacher wouldn't have gotten to us." the air was heavy with tension, their verbal sparring a stark contrast to the dire circumstances that surrounded them.
you attempted to intervene, starting with a stern "nayeon-", but she swiftly cut you off, her words spilling out in a torrent of anger. "we almost died because of you! you're so fucking annoying," she spat, her venom directed at gyeongsu, who seemed to be seething, his anger barely contained.
but then, a sudden shift - "you forget to remember, you were the reason he left the door in the first place. always bitching at him..." your own pain and irritation boiled over, causing you to lash out at anything that even hinted at raising your blood pressure.
nayeon's lips parted, her eye twitching with agitation, as she lashed out: "seems like you always have something to say, huh? if you hadn't made coach kang so mad, maybe mijin wouldn't have turned!" her words stung you, sparking a surge of anger in both you and gyeongsu. you both began to close in on her, but the room erupted in a chorus of caution, everyone urging you to "leave it alone."
it was clear that this was neither the time nor the place for recriminations, yet nayeon's relentless jabs left you baffled. why was she still fueling the flames of discord when unity was crucial to your survival?
a sense of unease settled over the room as onjo's worried voice cut through the tension: "suhyeokie? has anyone seen him?" the question cast a shadow of concern, sending a shiver down your spine. you scanned the room frantically, searching for the familiar tall figure, but he was nowhere to be found. a growing sense of dread gnawed at your gut.
"he was right behind me," cheongsan called out, his voice strained as he struggled to hold the chairs in place against the window, barricading the zombies outside. the words only heightened your concern, and you felt a surge of fear. "did he..." you started to ask, your voice laced with worry, your heart racing with the urge to rush out and find him. the silence that followed was oppressive, heavy with unspoken fears.
“he didn't get bit,” cheongsan finished for you, his words a welcome relief that prompted a shaky exhale. you hastily masked the betraying breath with a throat clearing, trying to compose yourself. “at least, not when i last saw him…” cheongsan trailed off, his voice barely above a whisper as he too succumbed to worry for his best friend, another young life hanging hazardously in the balance.
slumping into a worn, abandoned chair, your mind spiraled into a tornado of despair, consumed by the haunting thought that he might truly be gone. the possibility that he wouldn't return, refusing to be dismissed. and yet, despite the anguish he had caused, your heart still skipped a beat at the mere memory of him. why did this toxic longing persist, even as your heart seethed with resentment? the pain he had inflicted over the past few months still lingered, a festering wound that refused to heal. so why couldn't you shake the feeling of your heart shattering into a million pieces? your thoughts drifted back to the beginning, to the moment when it all started, and the memories came flooding back…
as the lunch bell rang, the hallways transformed into a sea of chatter and laughter, with clusters of friends walking together. you, however, found yourself alone, making your way back to your friend's classroom to return a borrowed book. as you turned the corner and began descending the stairs, your breath hitched- changhoon and gwinam stood before you, their nonchalant strides a stark contrast to your sudden panic. with lightning-fast reflexes, you spun around and dashed back up the steps, desperate to avoid detection.
you ducked into a nearby classroom, sliding the door shut behind you and pressing your back against it. catching your breath, you cautiously approached the window, peeking out to see the duo sauntering down the hallway, hands buried in their pockets. but then, changhoon's gaze snapped upwards, locking eyes with yours in a fleeting moment of terror. your eyes widened as he nudged gwinam, directing his attention to you. you dropped down, dashing to the back of the room where a decorative screen door panel offered a fragile hiding spot. you concealed yourself behind it, clamping a hand over your mouth to stifle any betraying sounds.
abruptly, voices pierced the air, making your senses go on high alert. "yo! suhyeok!" gwinam’s shout sent your eyes darting frantically towards the ground, straining to listen, but only muffled murmurs reached your ears. an oppressive silence followed, causing your legs to tremble beneath you as you crouched in fear.
then, the creak of the classroom door opening made your eyes go wide with terror. you froze, holding your breath, and pleading with any higher power to spare you from harm. a whisper seemed to slice through the air, "yah, go check the back right there." changhoon's voice sent a chill down your spine. the scraping of desks and approaching footsteps made your heart race, each step echoing through the room like a countdown to doom. "the moron couldn't have gone far, we saw him in here," gwinam's detached remark only heightened your fear, his words dripping with venom.
without warning, the curtain door rustled, and a figure emerged, sending you into panic. you gazed up, fear etched on your face, only to be met with a familiar sight - the same guy from the bathroom encounter. his eyes, filled with sympathy and pity, locked onto yours, while your body trembled like a leaf, tears welling up in your eyes. you resembled a lost, helpless kitten, and his expression softened at the sight. a pang struck his chest as he took in your fragile form, curled up in a ball. unaware of the conversation about you, he was taken aback.
"found him?" changhoon and gwinam demanded, their eyes fixed on him for an answer. suhyeok's gaze darted back to you for a fleeting moment before shifting to the other door, slightly ajar. "no, he's not here. must have slipped out the other way," he replied swiftly, covering you with the panel once more, shielding you from view.
you couldn't fathom it - was he truly helping you? "shit, come on!" changhoon's irate voice echoed as he stormed out the door. the sound of footsteps faded into the hallway, and you exhaled a shaky sigh of relief, allowing the pent-up tears to stream down your face. your tense body finally relaxed, surrendering to the emotional release. but then, the panel shifted once more, sending you scrambling backward, your heart racing. suhyeok's gentle voice cut through your fear, "hey, hey, it's okay, they're gone." he knelt beside you, his calm demeanor a bandaid to your frazzled nerves. overwhelmed with gratitude, your head drooped forward, relief washing over you like a wave. hastily, you wiped away your tears, forcing yourself to compose your emotions.
you caught him gazing at you, and swiftly averted your eyes, your ears flaring with heat under the intensity of his dark brown stare. suhyeok's lips parted, but words faltered, trapped in his throat. he yearned to offer solace, yet hesitated, fearing it would only add to the awkwardness. "please...just go," you whispered, your voice barely audible, as you fixed your gaze on your lap, avoiding his eyes.
struggling to stem the tide of tears, you felt exhaustion seep into your very being. the daily grind of fighting to navigate school had taken its toll. the relentless torment - dog feces in your shoes, brutal beatings after class, harassment on your way home, and public humiliation in the classroom - had drained your spirit. the weight of being an outcast, a perpetual pariah, crushed you. even your home, once a sanctuary, now felt like a source of pain. your dad's indifference to your bruises, his dismissal of your nocturnal cries, and his neglect of your suffering had become too much to bear. the cumulative effect was suffocating, leaving you feeling utterly defeated, unable to cope anymore.
“you're no longer on the baseball team,” suhyeok said, disregarding your plea for him to leave. his words hung in the air, prompting you to look up at him in bewilderment. you sniffled, "what?" he simply nodded, his expression unreadable.
"you were on the team, right? i think i saw you play a few times," he said, a faint smile on his face. with a mix of reluctance and embarrassment, you pulled yourself off the floor, dusting off your pants and adjusting your school vest. "um...yeah. that was about a month ago," you admitted, causing suhyeok's smile to falter. he averted his gaze, looking away awkwardly before responding, "right, yeah...it's been a while since i've seen a game, so..." his voice trailed off, leaving an uncomfortable silence.
“why are you friends with them?” you interrupted, curtailing his nonsensical words. your gaze locked onto his, a fierce glare burning with intensity. “they're bullies, cruel and heartless. why?” you asked, your voice laced with confusion and hurt, your eyes welling up with emotion. suhyeok felt the weight of your scrutiny, like a spotlight shining down on him, and he faltered, stuttering before responding, “we've...we've been friends since childhood, they're not that bad, i mean...”
you burst out laughing, mocking his naive words, "not bad, huh?" your laughter echoes again, incredulous that you ever thought he was different. the realization hits you - he's just like the others, "you guys are all the same." with a mix of disgust and disappointment, you shove past him, turning to leave. but he grasps your arm, spinning you back around. his face contorts in offense, hurt by your words, "that's not true."
you swiftly shoot back, "then prove it," the air thick with unspoken meaning, your words a gauntlet thrown. but before suhyeok can respond, the classroom door slides open and a teacher breezes in, interrupting the tense moment. you both hastily step away from each other, trying to appear nonchalant. you hide your tear-stained face behind a veil of hair, avoiding eye contact, while the teacher asks with a cheerful smile, "oh, sorry for the interruption! i thought ms. jang was here. did you two see where she went?" suhyeok quickly attempts to match her bright demeanor, pointing outside, "yes, I saw her head to the teachers' lounge."
the teacher nods, seemingly oblivious to the tension between you and suhyeok. “alright, thank you! ill go catch up with her!” she exits the classroom, leaving you both alone once again. suhyeok takes a step closer to you, his eyes locked on yours. “look, im sorry that-” you didnt wait to hear his apology before leaving the classroom and sliding the door closed behind you.
as the final bell rings, releasing a flood of students into the afternoon, you make your way down the school steps, only to sense a tall figure falling into stride beside you. your gaze drops to find the familiar book you'd forgotten, now being offered to you with a charming smile. suhyeok's eyes sparkle as he says, "you forgot this."
you're taken aback, surprised he'd waited until after school to return it. your pulse quickens at the thought. snapping back to reality, you quickly look away, nodding with a brief, forced smile. the only way you could thank him without actually saying the words. you continue on, merging with the sea of students crossing the street, trying to blend in. as you continue walking, you can't shake off the feeling that suhyeok is still beside you. you glance over, and sure enough, he's keeping pace with you, his eyes fixed on the path ahead. “where are you headed?" he asks, his voice casual, as if he's just making conversation. you hesitate, unsure how much to reveal. "just home," you reply, trying to sound nonchalant.
suhyeok nods, his smile still in place. "mind if i walk with you? i'm headed in the same direction." you shrug, trying to appear indifferent, but your mind is racing. what does he want? why is he following you? as you walk, the silence between you grows more uncomfortable. suhyeok points out a few landmarks, but you only give curt nods.
"why are you following me?" you ask, deciding to confront him directly. "you could've just returned the book and left." suhyeok's smile falters for a moment, before he looks away, scratching the back of his head. "i guess i just wanted to make sure you got home okay," he says, his voice a little softer. you raise an eyebrow, skeptical. "that's it?" suhyeok looks back at you, his eyes locking onto yours. "im not like myungwhan and them. im gonna prove it to you," he states with that charming smile once again.
you study his face, trying to read between the lines. what does he mean by "prove it" to you? "what do you mean?" you press, your curiosity getting the better of you. suhyeok takes a deep breath, his eyes never leaving yours. "i mean, i know they've been giving you a hard time. and i'm sorry. i'm sorry i didn't do anything sooner." you feel a pang of surprise. no one's ever apologized for their friends' behavior before. especially not someone like suhyeok. "why are you telling me this?" you ask, your voice barely above a whisper.
suhyeok's smile reappears, this time with a gentler warmth. "because i want to," he says, his response frustratingly vague. you roll your eyes, unimpressed. as you continue walking side by side, you notice two girls across the street, clad in another school's uniform, pointing and whispering in your direction. your face heats up with embarrassment, and you instinctively pull your hoodie up to conceal yourself.
but before you can hide, suhyeok leans in, his fingers brushing against yours as he gently pulls your hoodie back down. his face is suddenly mere inches from yours, his eyes sparkling with amusement. a sudden thrill runs through you at the unexpected proximity, and you feel a flutter in your chest. the whispers and giggles from across the street fade into the background as you become acutely aware of suhyeok's presence.
suhyeok's voice cuts through the warmth, his words laced with a hint of concern. "you're gonna catch a heat stroke if you put your hoodie up," he says, his tone effortlessly casual. as he speaks, his hands reach out to gently tease out the tangles in your hair, his touch sending a wave of warmth through your body. his fingers work with a tender precision, as if trying to soothe a skittish creature. the sensation is both calming and unnerving, leaving your cheeks and ears flushed with a gentle heat.
his hands linger, and for a moment, you're trapped in the intimacy of the gesture, the world around you melting away. then, he steps back, his eyes sparkling with amusement, and you're left to wonder at the strange sense of vulnerability that lingers long after his touch is gone.
as you stand there, trying to process the unexpected tenderness, suhyeok's gaze drifts to your hoodie, which is still clutched in your hand. "seriously, take it off," he says, his voice low and persuasive. "it's too hot for that." you hesitate, “its fine..” you say, unsure of what to do. but before you can make a decision, suhyeok reaches out and gently unzips your hoodie from your chest to your lower belly. he helps you take off your backpack and hoodie then holds it for a moment, his fingers brushing against yours, before tossing it casually over his shoulder.
"come on," he says, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "lets keep going." he turns and starts walking, leaving you to follow. you do, your heart still racing from the unexpected touch. as you walk, you can't help but steal glances at suhyeok, wondering what other surprises he might have in store. the sun beats down on you, warming your skin, and you feel a sense of freedom wash over you. maybe, just maybe, this day won't be so bad after all.
next thing you know, time slipped by effortlessly as suhyeok became your constant companion, walking you home with a consistency that was both comforting and thrilling. four weeks passed, each day blending seamlessly into the next as the distance between you and the taller boy grew shorter. with every step, your connection deepened, and your heart began to beat in tandem with his presence. for the first time in what felt like an eternity, the prospect of school no longer filled you with dread. the halls, once a battleground, became a mere backdrop for the quiet moments you shared with suhyeok.
teasing comments and snickers, once a constant hum, faded into insignificance as suhyeok's presence became your shield. his calm and gentle nature was a comfort to your rattled nerves, soothing your fears and quieting your doubts. as the days turned into weeks, your heart, once a heavy burden, began to feel lighter, freer. it was as if suhyeok's presence had given you permission to breathe, to live, and to feel.
a sense of determination washed over you as you stepped into the school's bustling hallways. a single thought consumed your mind: confessing your feelings to suhyeok. the connection you shared had grown too strong to ignore, and you could no longer keep your emotions hidden.
with every step, your heart beat faster, but fear was nowhere to be found. suhyeok's gentle nature had become a sanctuary, a place where you felt safe and understood. the time you spent together had woven a sense of intimacy, making it feel as though you were already inseparable. in your mind, the lines between friendship and something more had blurred, and you couldn't help but wonder if suhyeok felt the same. today, you were ready to find out.
in an empty classroom, you wrote a heartfelt letter to suhyeok, revealing your true feelings. your hands trembled as you poured your emotions onto paper. once finished, you folded the letter and made your way to his locker, where his name was written in beautiful calligraphy. you slipped the letter inside, the soft sound echoing through the silence. in that moment, you felt vulnerable, yet hopeful. you had shared a part of yourself, and now all you could do was wait and wonder if suhyeok felt the same.
hours passed, and the silence was deafening. you couldn't focus in class, your mind wandering to the letter and suhyeok's potential response. as the final bell rang, you gathered your belongings and made your way to your usual meeting spot, wondering if he'd even show up. as you turned the corner, your heart skipped a beat. suhyeok was leaning against the wall, his eyes fixed on yours with an unreadable expression. you felt a flutter in your chest as he pushed off the wall and approached you, the letter clutched in his hand.
"can we talk?" he asked, his voice low and gentle. you nodded shyly, and he led you to a quiet corner of the schoolyard, away from prying eyes. the air was thick with anticipation when he finally looked up, his eyes locked onto yours, and you saw a glimmer of something there, something that gave you hope. just as suhyeok's words hung in the air, a trio of unwelcome figures emerged from the shadows, their presence like a dark cloud. myungwhan, changhoon, and gwinam loomed behind suhyeok, your eyes fixed on the letter in myungwhan’s hand.
your gaze dropped, and your heart sank as you saw the bullies' hands grasping the paper, their faces twisted in disgust. they devoured the words you had poured your heart into, their snickers and snorts piercing the air like daggers. “i never thanked you for being my friend,” he began to read out loud. you shook your head with tears welling in your eyes. this can't be happening, “your kind gestures and gentle words reached a part of me that no one has ever touched.”
the three bullies erupted into a chorus of mocking laughter, their cruel amusement echoing through the schoolyard as they reveled in the intimate words you had shared with suhyeok. the crowd around you grew, drawn in by the spectacle, as myungwhan's voice boomed out, reading your private confession aloud.
"“im grateful to be as close to you now, but some days i wonder if we could be even more,”" he cackled, his voice dripping with derision.
you stood frozen, blinking in shock, as the words you had poured your heart into were used against you. the laughter and snickers of the crowd cut deep, and suhyeok's face twisted in anger, his eyes flashing with a fierce protectiveness.
the moment felt like an eternity, as if time itself had slowed to savor your humiliation. but in the midst of the chaos, suhyeok's words were abruptly silenced as gwinam slung his arm around his shoulders, pulling him into a suffocating grip. "damn y/n.. i know i would call you fag, but for you to actually be one? i mean, what a coincidence right?" gwinam sneered, his voice dripping with spite.
the crowd around you erupted into a murmuring of whispers and snickers, smartphones held aloft like a sea of tiny mirrors reflecting your humiliation. "what a shitty confession, he couldn't even say it to his face.." a voice murmured in the crowd. suhyeok's eyes flashed with anger, his face twisted in a mixture of rage and helplessness as gwinam's grip tightened around him. the scene unfolded like a nightmare, each passing moment a fresh wave of torture.
changhoon's hands closed around your neck like a vice, his smile twisted and sinister as he pulled you into a suffocating chokehold. tears streamed down your face as you struggled to break free, but his grip only tightened.
"i bet you got hard while writing this.." myungwhan's voice dripped with sadistic pleasure as he instructed gwinam to "check", his eyes gleaming with a perverse curiosity. suhyeok's face was a mask of paralysis, his eyes locked on yours for a fleeting moment before he turned away, abandoning you to the mercy of your tormentors. the betrayal stung like a fresh wound, as you realized he wouldn't be coming to your rescue.
"get off me!" you shout, your voice cracking with desperation as gwinam's hands move to unbuckle your belt. "no!" you scream, loud sobs wracking your body. in a surge of adrenaline, you lash out, sending a kick flying into gwinam's face. he stumbles back, blood streaming from his nose. the momentary distraction gives you the leverage you need to elbow changhoon and shove him against the wall.
seizing the opportunity, you grab your backpack and sprint through the crowd, your feet clattering the ground in a frantic bid for escape. you don't stop until you're safely behind the door of your home, where you collapse, exhausted and shaken. the memory of that day haunts you, and you can't bring yourself to return to school. but a week later, a truancy notice arrives, and your father's firm hand forces you back into the very environment you're desperate to escape. the next few months are a blur of isolation, as you struggle to come to terms with the trauma you've endured.
you could never forgive him for setting you up like he did.. so why does your heart break when he's gone now?
a piercing screech shattered the air, jolting you back to reality. you instinctively covered your ear with your one good hand, wincing in pain. then, a voice cut through the chaos, calm and authoritative.
"students and teachers of hyosan high school. i'm park sunhwa, the english teacher. something strange is happening throughout the school. some students are attacking others indiscriminately. so please flee and find a safe place."
a wave of despair washed over the classroom, but the sound of an adult's voice sparked a glimmer of hope. tears of fear and relief streamed down faces as the reality of the situation sunk in. "and if any students or faculty hears this and is able to please call the fire or police department. students, hide somewhere safe until help arrives. if you can get out of the school, please get out." the room erupted into a chorus of sobs and panicked whispers.
joonyeong's voice suddenly speaks up. "its alright, we can just stay in here for now until help comes," he says, but his words are met with skepticism. the group's eyes dart to him, searching for reassurance. meanwhile, you spring into action, scouring the backpacks for anything that might aid in your survival. isak and cheongsan watch with interest, their hushed conversation about onjo's struggles without suhyeok barely audible.
but one phrase catches your attention: "onjo's crush". your gaze drifts to onjo, and you realize that suhyeok's absence has left a void in more ways than one. it seems he had possibly more than one secret admirer. the revelation sparks a flicker of curiosity, but it's quickly extinguished by the gravity of your situation.
your search for supplies yields little more than makeup and secret diaries, which you leave untouched, respecting the privacy of your peers. you know all too well the pain of having your personal life exposed. meanwhile, joonyeong approaches cheongsan, his voice low and cautious. "you know, if y/n hadn't grabbed you back there, you probably would've got attacked." the words hang in the air, a stark reminder of the danger that lurks outside.
cheongsan's glare is immediate, but joonyeong presses on, his tone laced with a mix of sadness and urgency. "im just saying, now would be a great time to make amends. especially with suhyeok gone, we only have us now." the weight of his words settles over the group, a poignant reminder that in the face of adversity, their bonds may be all that remain.
as you continue to rummage through the backpacks, your hands close around a crisp white button-up shirt, its sleeves short. you hold it up, eyes closed, a silent prayer of gratitude escaping your lips. the two boys can't help but stare, their gazes drawn to the simple yet profound moment. "i cant.." cheongsan whispers, his voice barely audible. gyeongsu's curiosity is piqued, and he shifts his attention to cheongsan, sitting down beside him. "why not?" he asks, his eyes darting between cheongsan and you, who continues to search for supplies. "i mean, its not like we have anything else to do," gyeongsu states, his gesture encompassing the desperate scene unfolding before them. his words hang in the air, a poignant reminder of their precarious situation.
cheongsan's gaze lingers on you, a mix of frustration and determination etched on his face. with a sudden burst of energy, he leaps off the table and strides towards you, his movements fluid and purposeful. meanwhile, your search for sustenance yields a disappointing find - a chip bag, already ravaged and empty. you curse under your breath, frustration getting the better of you, before tossing the bag aside.cheongsan's eyes dart back to joonyeong and gyeongsu, seeking reassurance. and he finds it - both boys offer encouraging smiles and thumbs up, a silent show of support that seems to steel cheongsan's resolve.
cheongsan's sigh hangs in the air as he turns to face you, his eyes locking onto yours with a hesitant intensity. "hey," he says, his hands still clenched at his sides. you rise to your feet, bracing yourself for another confrontation, but instead, cheongsan's words catch you off guard. "what?" you ask, your tone softening.
"i um, i just wanted to say, thanks. for coming back for me earlier," he confesses, his gaze dropping, a hint of vulnerability creeping into his voice. stunned by his gratitude, you realize that your actions may have saved his life. but then, you recall how he, in turn, saved yours. "lets call it even," you say with a sheepish smile, the tension between you dissipating. "i would've been out there in that hallway still if you hadn't smacked that zombie on the head."
cheongsan's small smile mirrors yours, a fragile truce forming between you. it's a surreal moment, one that makes you realize that near-death experiences can be a powerful catalyst for understanding. you both see each other in a new light - not as enemies, but as humans, with families and loved ones waiting for you at home. you're just kids, after all, fighting to survive in a world gone mad.
as the smiles linger, the atmosphere in the room shifts, becoming less tense. you both stand there for a moment, the only sound being the distant moans and groans of the infected outside.
you nod in agreement, feeling a sense of camaraderie wash over you. "we should keep watching each other's backs." cheongsan nods, his eyes locking onto yours with a newfound sense of trust. "sounds good."
in an instant, the calm is shattered by nayeon's urgent voice. "did you get bitten?" she asks, her words hanging in the air like a challenge. isak responds swiftly, her tone laced with a mix of fear and defiance. "i said i wasn't!" your eyes meet cheongsan's, a shared sense of concern sparking between you. you both turn to isak, and your hearts sink.
her nose is smeared with dried blood, and her eyes betray a growing panic. isak rushes to a mirror, her reflection revealing the true extent of her distress. her eyes are bloodshot, protruding slightly, and her entire body begins to tremble. "come on, i-i said im okay!" she shouts, her voice cracking. onjo springs into action, grasping isak's hands in a desperate bid to calm her down. cheongsan and you approach cautiously, your minds racing with the terrible possibility that onjo might be next to fall.
a sense of urgency washes over you as you grasp isak's arms, trying to calm her down. "isak, calm down. it's okay," you say softly, attempting to soothe her growing panic. cheongsan mirrors your actions, gently pulling onjo away from the unfolding chaos. the two friends, once inseparable, are now separated by a growing sense of dread.
onjo struggles against cheongsan's grip, trying to shove him away, but it's too late. isak's body begins to contort, her teeth clenched in a vicious snarl as she crashes to the floor. "she's turning!" wujin's voice rings out, a stark warning that sends a chill through the air.
the echoes of nayeon's scream still linger in the air, but they're quickly replaced by the ominous shuffling of footsteps outside. the zombies, drawn by the commotion, are closing in. the boys spring into action, grasping desks and chairs to barricade the door, their faces set in determined lines. but their efforts may be in vain, as isak, now standing, takes a menacing step forward. her eyes fix on onjo and cheongsan, her chest heaving with ragged breaths.
"isak, please don't do this," onjo begs, her voice trembling, but isak doesn't falter. she charges towards them, only to be repelled by cheongsan, who shoves her away with a wooden stool. you seize the moment, dashing to the window and frantically working to unlock it with one hand. but it's a futile effort - the latch stubbornly refuses to budge, requiring two hands to open. time is running out.
a warning shout pierces the air, "y/n! look out!" and you spin around, heart racing, to see cheongsan launching himself at isak. he shoves her with all his might, and her body sails through the air, heading straight for the window. you drop to the floor, narrowly avoiding the collision, as isak crashes through the glass and disappears outside. but onjo reacts fast, dashing to the window and grasping isak's hand, her fingers closing around it like a vice.
onjos legs flail wildly, and you grab hold, straining to keep her from pulling herself out the window too. cheongsan seizes the wooden stool, his face set in a grimace, and brings it down, hammering isak's hand in a desperate bid to break the grip.
"onjo, you have to let go! she wouldn't want you to throw your life away!" you shout, sweat dripping down your face as you struggle to hold on with one working arm. it's the hardest thing you've done so far, and you're not sure how much longer you can last. the tension is palpable as you feel isak's weight teetering on the edge, and then, in an instant, it's released. cheongsan's swift action has broken the grip, and you hesitantly let go, your body sagging in relief.
you crawl away from the window, drained of all energy, and collapse against the drawers. the solid wood provides a comforting support as you lean against it, exhausted to the core - mentally and physically spent. the ordeal has pushed you to the limit, and for a moment, all you can do is sit there, trying to catch your breath and process what just happened.
onjo's body crumples, and she dissolves into a fit of sobs, curling into a ball as the weight of her grief becomes too much to bear. the room falls silent, with all eyes on her, as the sound of her anguish fills the space. gyeongsu's urgent voice cuts through the moment, "come block the door!" and you spring into action, joining the effort to barricade the entrance against the growing zombie horde. with one hand, you help push the desk into place, securing their safety.
meanwhile, jimin gently lifts onjo into a chair, standing beside her and offering what comfort she can, her hand rubbing her back in soothing circles. hroryeong sits down beside her, tenderly brushing the hair from her face and holding her hand, the two girls enveloping her in a cocoon of support. cheongsan's gaze lingers on onjo, his expression softening, and that's when it hits you - a spark of realization that changes everything.
the pieces fall into place as you realize cheongsan's true feelings for onjo. it's a surprising epiphany, and you can't help but wonder why you didn't see it sooner. his past glares and tense behavior around you and onjo now make sense - he was harboring a secret crush.
a small smile plays on your lips as you think about how unnecessary his worries were. onjo, sweet as she is, never sparked that kind of interest in you. she's not your type, and you're relieved that cheongsan's concerns were unfounded. but now, you're curious to see how this newfound understanding will change the dynamics between you all.
cheongsan's gaze sweeps the room, his eyes lingering on each face before settling on the window. "we should go," he says finally, his voice firm with conviction. "we're not gonna last here any longer." the room falls silent, with all eyes on him, as the weight of his words sinks in. wujin speaks up, her brow furrowed in concern, "where would we even go?" cheongsan's plan is already in motion, it seems. "we could use the hose from earlier," he explains, turning to gyeongsu. "i'll need you to open the door a little bit, just enough to fit the hose."
you stare at him, in disbelief, wondering if he's lost his mind. "cheongsan, what are we gonna do with a hose?" you ask, your voice laced with confusion, as you try to make sense of his seemingly harebrained scheme.
cheongsan's response is a steadfast gaze, his eyes burning with determination. you meet his intensity with a healthy dose of skepticism, rolling your eyes before voicing your doubts. "whatever this is, it better work," you say, your tone laced with a mix of curiosity and trepidation.
as you help gyeongsu clear a path, moving desks and chairs out of the way, you can't help but wonder if cheongsan's plan is nothing more than a desperate gamble. gyeongsu, too, seems uncertain, her voice tinged with reluctance as she slides the door open slowly. "isn't it better to wait for the rescuers to come save us?" he whines, her eyes darting nervously towards the unknown dangers outside.
cheongsan's words are laced with a sobering gravity, his eyes gleaming with a sense of leadership that commands attention. "we might all die by the time they arrive," he states, his tone firm and resolute. in this moment, you know you'll trust him without question, no matter the outcome.
with a deep breath, cheongsan drops to the floor, his belly flat against the ground as he stretches out to reach the hose. but time is of the essence - the zombies outside are a constant threat, and one wrong move could mean disaster. "i can't reach it," he admits, his gaze locking onto yours, a silent plea for help.
you scan the classroom frantically, searching for anything that might bridge the gap between cheongsan's outstretched arm and the elusive hose. your eyes dart from chair to desk, desperate to find a solution before the zombies outside become an even more pressing problem.
in a moment of synchronistic ingenuity, cheongsan darts into the school's lab, mirroring your own train of thought. he rummages through the shelves, his hands moving with a sense of purpose, until he emerges victorious, clutching a mannequin arm. "that's one way to get longer arms," you remark, a hint of amusement dancing in your voice, as cheongsan waves the prosthetic limb at you, his face split by a triumphant grin. you can't help but shake your head in disbelief at the absurdity of it all.
but absurd or not, the makeshift solution proves to be a stroke of genius. cheongsan uses the mannequin arm to snag the hose, pulling it towards him with a swift motion, before quickly closing the door and tugging the hose to safety. the plan, however unorthodox, has worked perfectly.
the hose scrapes against the wooden door, its rasping sound filling the air as cheongsan instructs everyone to tie it in a way that can secure a hand or foot. joonyeong chimes in, "zigzag! make it a zigzag," his correction transforming the makeshift rope into a sturdy, climbable fixture. with the rope readied, it's swiftly thrown out the window, the same window that bore witness to isak's tragic demise. you, gyeongsu, and cheongsan cautiously peer out, scanning the area below to see if the rope reaches a safe haven.
daesu, still recovering from his ordeal, can't help but chuckle at the sight of the three of you, "you guys look like the three stooges," he wheezes out, his laughter punctuated by a fit of coughing. but his mirth is short-lived, as a zombie's sudden appearance at the door sends a jolt of fear through the room, and daesu's expression turns grave.
"i'll go down and check the empty rooms," cheongsan declares, his voice firm. "i'll call when it's clear, okay?" the others nod in unison, their faces set with determination. but then, cheongsan's gaze shifts, his eyes locking onto onjo with a fleeting glance that speaks volumes. you catch the look, a subtle exchange that hints at a deeper concern.
"actually, someone else should go," cheongsan says, his tone firm but laced with a hint of protectiveness. wujin nods in agreement, his hand on gyeongsu's back. "you should go, gyeongsu."
gyeongsu's eyes widen in disbelief, his face scrunched up in a comical mix of shock and protest. "what? why me?" he asks, his voice laced with incredulity, as if he can't fathom why he's been chosen for this task.”
"it's alright, i can go," you say, already starting to climb, but wujin's firm hand pushes you back, earning a scathing glare from you. "you can't go!" wujin insists, his eyes darting to gyeongsu, who's still looking uncertain. "look, you're gonna make an injured guy go first?" wujin asks, his tone calling out gyeongsu, as he gestures to your injured state.
gyeongsu mutters a curse under his breath before beginning his descent, his movements cautious and slow. you, wujin, and cheongsan watch anxiously, offering words of encouragement as he makes his way down. just as you're focused on gyeongsu's progress, a sudden hand on your hurt shoulder shoves you aside, making you wince in pain. nayeons determined face appears, her eyes blazing with a fierce determination. "i wanna go down first!" she shouts, her voice firm and resolute. wujin's eyes widen in surprise, his hands gesturing towards your injured form. "hey, what the hell?" he asks, his tone a mix of confusion and concern.
"one person at a time," cheongsan cautions, his voice calm and measured, as he addresses the visibly irritated onjo. "you might fall if it shakes too much." you can't help but think, "should've put her down first...then shook the rope," your muttered remark a silent critique of the situation, accompanied by a withering glare that goes unnoticed in the tension-filled moment.
the air is thick with unspoken frustration, as the group waits with bated breath for gyeongsu to complete his precarious descent, the rope creaking ominously under his weight.
a sudden shout from below electrifies the air - "ms. park is here!" gyeongsu's voice rings out, and you gasp with excitement, your heart racing with hope.
"oh, thank god," you exhale, a sigh of relief washing over you as the weight of their predicament momentarily lifts. cheongsan's voice cuts through the din, his words a rallying cry - "ms. park is on the second floor, let's go, guys!" and with that, the group begins their descent, one by one, down the makeshift rope.
nayeon goes first, followed by daesu, jimin, hroryeong, joonyeong, wujin, namra, and finally onjo. you and cheongsan are the last two left, and your mind is a jumble of thoughts as you help each friend make their way down. but as cheongsan turns to you, his eyes expectant, you realize with a jolt of fear that you can't possibly climb down with one hand. a sense of resignation washes over you, and you prepare to accept your fate, separated from your friends.
"alright, your turn," cheongsan says, his voice firm, but you don't move. instead, you force a smile, trying to mask your growing unease. "you go first," you say, your voice laced with a false bravado, as you desperately try to hide your fear.
just as cheongsan is about to speak, his gaze drops to your arm, visible through the torn shirt. his eyes widen in concern as he takes in the swollen, purplish hue of your injury. but before he can express his worry, you preemptively cut him off, trying to rush him into action. "come on, we don't have much time," you urge, attempting to divert his attention from your injury.
however, cheongsan refuses to be swayed. instead, he gently but firmly passes the rope back to you, his eyes locked on yours with a resolute determination. "no, you go first," he insists, his voice firm but laced with a deep concern. "i'm not gonna leave you behind."
"cheongsan! come on!" gyeongsu's voice echoes from below, urgent and insistent.
cheongsan peers out the window, his head momentarily disappearing from view. "hold on! we're coming!" he shouts down, before turning back to face you. the next few seconds are heavy with unspoken tension, as you both glance behind you, witnessing the ominous sight of chairs crashing to the ground, overwhelmed by the relentless pressure of the zombies. then, without warning, cheongsan grabs your arm, his eyes burning with determination. "now! go!" you urge him, but he resists, his grip tightening.
"wait," he says, his voice low and resolute. "i'll go first, but come right after me. i can lead your foot to the next loop. it'll be easy, but we gotta get out of here fast. we need you, y/n, you can't end it like this." his words are laced with a deep conviction, a refusal to leave you behind.
to say your eyes watered at his words was an understatement - they welled up with emotion, threatening to spill over at the sincerity and conviction in cheongsan's voice.
"fuck it. let's go," you say, a fierce tenacity feeling within you. you both nod, a silent understanding passing between you. cheongsan swiftly begins his descent, waiting for you below. but just as you start to climb out the window, the sound of desks crashing to the ground echoes through the lab, followed by the ominous scuttling of zombies as they claw their way into the now-empty room. you hastily swing one leg over the windowsill, cheongsan guiding the other as it searches for a foothold. "next step, y/n, let's go!" he urges, his voice a steady anchor in the chaos. your arm protests with a sharp cramp, strained from holding your weight so tightly against the wall, but you grit your teeth, refusing to give in to the pain.
as you start your descent down the ladder, a sudden, terrifying sight makes your heart skip a beat - a bloodied girl leaps out of the window above, plummeting towards the ground. in a desperate bid to eat something, she grabs onto cheongsan's leg, causing the entire rope to shudder and sway precariously. "cheongsan! hold on!" you scream in horror, as cheongsan slides down the rope, his grip faltering.
frantically, you scan your surroundings for something, anything, to help, but you're utterly hopeless. you're powerless to intervene, unable to do anything but watch in despair.
"shit, try to shake her off!" you shout down to cheongsan, your voice laced with desperation. cheongsan grunts in effort, trying to dislodge the girl, but her grip is unnaturally strong, refusing to yield.
thats when you hear a familiar deep voice, “cheongsan-ah!” you look upward to see lee-fucking-suhyeok on top of a window ledge above where you both had just climbed down from. you looked up at him with relief, “suhyeok!”

Build Up, Episode 7: It’s not you, it’s me.
Let’s skip the intro. Not only is there a LOT going on in this episode, but we’re starting with Jay Chang, Wumuti, and Kang Ha-yoon’s performance of JYP’s “Fever.” I’m excited. The judges are excited. Let’s go!

Sorry - I think I passed out.
That was so much fun! It was wild and sexy, and the judges were literally dancing along. “Jay Chang is insane,” says one of the judges, as I chug Gatorade in agreement. Back in the waiting area, Bain is literally open-mouthed in amazement.
A judge says that this song and “Dangerously” have been his favorite stages. Jay says “no way” in Korean, and the judges have a good laugh because apparently, that’s not something socially appropriate to say. Korean social rules are a LOT. Fortunately, no one takes offense. The judges call him “smooth and mischievous.”
Both Wumuti and Ha-yoon get raves as well, and I’m especially happy that Ha-yoon didn’t let himself get overshadowed. He even rapped, and he danced pretty well for someone who says he’d never done choreography before. Looks like we have another singer who isn’t afraid to step outside his comfort zone.
Now for the vote. I am so anxious about this.
The JYP “Fever” Team wins, 4-3. I can’t believe it was that close. Our trash-talking Wumuti is now very kind, telling the other team they did so well, he was nervous watching them from backstage.
Personally, I’m glad Woong of AB6IX got a chance to redeem himself after giving a halfhearted performance of Blackpink’s “Kick It” and was saved from elimination at the last minute. I remember being a little irritated that he was chosen as one of the survivors, but now I’m glad I got to see him in this match.

Now for the final Death Match. We’re getting a BTS song. Our BTS team will be doing the ballad “The Truth Untold.” They are ACE member Lee Dong-hun, singer Yoon In-hwan, and ROMEO member Ma Jae-Kyung.
Their challengers will be performing the ballad “An Ordinary Day” by Jung Seung Hwan. Our team is Pentagon’s Yeo One, Day6’s Lim Jun Hyeok, and freelance model Lee Gwang Seok.
It’s a bummer that we’re back in Ballad Land, but it’s the last match, so let’s do this. We’re starting with Team BTS. Turns out there was a conflict during rehearsal because Lee Dong-hun did not want to do another ballad. He got outvoted.

I hadn’t heard this BTS song before, and it’s beautiful. The judges have high praise for Lee Dong-hun. Not so much for the other two, who looked bored, which I find funny, since they were the only ones who wanted to do this song in the first place.
Now for Team Ordinary Day. I’m pulling for this team because Lee Gwang Seok has gotten a raw deal on this show. He was ranked #1 at the Vocal Check-In, and then he was almost eliminated when his earpiece broke. He needs a win.

I know I said I didn’t want another ballad, but this is pure bliss. All three of them hit high notes delicately and let them hang in the air for a few seconds before moving on. I don’t even understand the Korean lyrics, and it’s breaking my heart. Judge Wendy from Red Velvet looks like she’s fighting back tears.
The judges struggle to vote. Again, it’s a close one. The final vote of the Death Match goes to Team Ordinary Day, 4-3. Lee Gwang Seok is finally getting a break.
Time for the next mission. Backstage, the losing teams say their goodbyes. I really hate seeing Bain, Bitsaeon, and 4-year trainee Kim Min-seo leave.
Suddenly, the show throws us a curve ball. The judges are told that they can save five out of the fifteen eliminated trainees. I perk right up. Will I get my three favorites back?
The judges perk up, too. They’ve been feeling bad about saying goodbye to some of these singers, and now it’s like Christmas. They start deliberating. Our five rescued singers are:
ACE member Lee Dong-hun. No surprise there. The judges really like him, so they voted unanimously to bring him back.
Bain! Our Just B vocalist is coming back! This show wouldn’t be as exciting without him. I can’t wait to see his next stage.
Kim Min-seo. Yes! Another well-deserved chance for our 4-year unsigned trainee.
AB6IX member Woong. What? Why? If he’s given a spot, and Bitsaeon doesn’t get saved, I’m going to be so annoyed.
One last spot. Fingers crossed.

MONT member Bitsaeon. YES. That is the correct decision. He’s like Bain, in that he would be sorely missed. He’s an all-rounder and way too talented to let go. I love how happy Bain and Kim Min-seo are for their Death Match teammate. Their entire team has been saved.
I’m still a little bummed that we lost Neon, but I won’t be greedy. Other than the questionable choice of Woong, the judges made some really good choices.
Our ten truly eliminated singers leave. We are now down to twenty, and they look exhausted. They’re not getting a second to breathe. The next mission is being announced. They need to group themselves into teams of four. First the judges, who are probably just as exhausted at this point, need to choose a Top Tier singer from each team. Geonu and Jay are happy that they can do their Top Tier Time cheer again.

Time for another list! Let’s see who the new Top Tier Singers are.
Lee Gwang-seok. Hey! His second win in the same episode! After the earpiece debacle, he is climbing his way back up.
Jung Soo-min, aka Chicago Baby. I think he’s happy. He’s back in Chill Mode, but he’s probably happy. Someone check his pulse.
Sunyoul. Our UP10TION guy has the exact opposite reaction of Chicago Baby. His eyes get HUGE.
Jay Chang. Well, duh.
Imfact member Park Je-up. He was on the team that did the kickass BTOB cover in front of the BTOB judge. Great choice. Proceed.

Now our five Top Tier Singers have to go into smaller, individual waiting rooms. Like, right now. The five head out with no idea what’s happening next.
When they get to their small rooms, they’re each given a card. The instructions say they have to decide if they want to keep or disband their current group from the Death Match. If they keep their group, they have to add one more member. If they disband, they have to build a new group.
To make matters worse, the others singers in the main waiting room have heard all this, and they can’t get a message to their group leader about what they want to do. Not only are they exhausted, but now they’re frustrated.

“If Jay Chang breaks up our team,” stresses Wumuti, “it will be insane.” Others worry that feelings are going to get hurt. The general consensus in the main room is that they want to keep their teams.
The singers in the main room are about to get dumped, aren’t they? The Top Tier Singers will probably want to try something new. The singers in the main room have made it this far thanks to their current teams, so they won’t want to break up. This is gonna get really, really dramatic, especially since the decisions are going to be made in front of everyone. I can’t help laughing at how mean this is.
Here we go.
Park Je-up: He votes to disband. He’s breaking up with one of my favorites, Seung-hun, who looks really upset. The other teammates are horrified that Je-up is throwing such a meaningful relationship away. (Well, their exact quote is “throwing away such a good team,” but I know what they mean.)
Back in his own room, Jay Chang takes a pen to his card. I have a hunch he’s also dumping his team. In the main room, Wumuti says, “If the teams break up now, the performances so far mean nothing.” Oh, Jay. Please tell me you’ve seen Fatal Attraction.

Sunyoul: He breaks up his team. I should not be laughing at his teammates’ reactions, but I can’t help it. “We planned to have a meal tomorrow!” they wail in disbelief. I cannot WAIT for everyone to be back I the same room together. Shade will be thrown.
Wumuti is getting more anxious. “I’m scared to even imagine it,” he says. If he were allowed to have his phone right now, he’d be taking a Buzzfeed quiz about how his favorite food determines if he’s about to get dumped.
Chicago Baby: Is he going to break up the Joker Team? Everyone in the main room thinks he will. But no! Jung Soo-min believes in true love and keeps his team together! A cry of “Chicago Baby!” echoes through the room. As an added bonus, teammates Geonu and Kim Seo Hyung get to leave the main room and reunite with Soo-min immediately.

Jay Chang hears their celebration through the wall of his room and says, “Wow, they’re so American.” I haven’t laughed this hard since BTS had their meltdown on the I-Land finale.
Lee Gwang-seok. Our freelance model and broken earpiece survivor also decides to stay faithful and keep his relationship together. His Day6 and Pentagon teammates joyously reunite with him.
One team left. Jay Chang has to decide if he’s going to spurn his Fever bandmates Wumuti and Kang Ha-yoon. Come on, Jay. Don’t piss off Wumuti the Trash Talk King. You do NOT want him on your bad side.
Jay Chang. Jay decides he wants to see other people and hopes they can still be friends. The waiting room erupts in disbelief. Jay says he’s sorry to the camera but can’t help laughing at the craziness of the whole situation, which I’m sure will get even crazier when Wumuti finds him.

The eleven newly-single singers take the stage after updating their relationship statuses on Facebook. They are here to rebound.
The Top Tier Singers and the two groups that stayed together are still in their private waiting rooms, watching the stage on a monitor. Jay is already scanning the singles ads.

Park Je-up gets to choose first. He has to choose three new teammates, and he has to walk out onto the stage and face them all while he does it. I absolutely love how deliciously mean this episode is. He chooses ACE member Lee Dong-hun, Just B member Bain, and AB6IX member Woong. This is now a full team of debuted idols.

Now Jay Chang gets to choose. He picks MONT member Bitsaeon, my CIX favorite Seung-hun, and trainee legend Kim Min-seo. Oh my God. This is an incredible team. I cannot wait to see this performance.

“All of us are good-looking and have good abilities,” says the ever-humble Jay in a confessional. Okay, dude. Go rehearse now.
Lee Gwang-seok chooses next. He only gets one pick, since he kept his team together. He chooses singer Hwang In-hyuk.

Chicago Baby is up next with one pick. He chooses actor Choi Ha-ram.

Oof. That means Wumuti doesn’t get chosen for a team. He’s left to form a team with the remaining singers who didn’t get chosen: UP10TION member Sunyoul and singers Kang Ha-yoon and Choi Su-hwan.

Wait a minute. Those four together look familiar. Let me check my K-pop video playlist on YouTube.

Oh, my God. That’s Waterfire. That’s the group Waterfire, who’s song “Possible” I played a million times last year. I only saw the video a couple of times, and Wumuti was the only familiar face. That was one of the reasons I wanted to recap this show.
I know Jay Chang will come out a winner on this show, and he’s not part of Waterfire. But this group will also debut. Is the show debuting two groups? I was not expecting this.
This newly thrown-together team is talking about how they have something to prove to the other singers. They have to prove that they’re a strong team, even though no one chose them.
They certainly are going to prove it. I’m getting chills.
Okay, ten minutes left in this episode. We get final shots of all the groups together and the names they’ve chosen for their groups. Jay’s team is called … HunMinJayBit. (sigh) Jay picked that name, didn’t he? I’m so glad that’s not the name of the final group.

And Wumuti’s team? Waterfire. They’ve already chosen that name.

Our host tells us that online voting has begun for the five groups. Then we skip ahead to D-Day and an auditorium full of screaming fans. The next episode will be live performances! I’m so excited. Grab your signs and light sticks, and I’ll see you there!
