WHEN WOMEN RULED: LADIES OF THE AFTERMATH BY ARCHMAESTER ABELON
JOHANNA LANNISTER capably led the remnants of the shattered Lannister forces in the ongoing conflict with the Greyjoys raiding the coasts, which continued as essentially a localized war even though the Dance had formally ended.
SAMANTHA TARLY was so politically influential that she was considered the functional co-ruler of Oldtown.
SHARIS FOOTLY ruled and rebuilt the devastated town as regent for her son, who was born after the death of her husband.
ALYS RIVERS was the former lover of Prince Aemond Targaryen and was seen to be pregnant in his presence. She later presented a young boy she claimed to be his posthumous son. As Harrenhal was at the heart of the devastated riverlands, Alys gathered to her a growing following of broken men until she established a small bandit-kingdom around the burnt-out castle.
SABITHA FREY went on to organize Widow Fairs for the hundreds of commoner women left widowed by the war, hoping to match them with the over a thousand men from the Stark army who had stayed in the south rather than overburden the North during the harsh winter. Her rule was stable enough by 134 AC that she was able to contribute six hundred soldiers to the royal host sent to end the succession war in the Vale of Arryn.
LADY JEYNE ARRYN, who ruled the Vale of Arryn in her own right since before the war began, and served as as member of the council of seven regents appointed for King Aegon III, from its inception in 131 AC until she died from an illness in 134 AC.
ELENDA BARATHEON served as regent for her son Royce Baratheon, who was born one week after his father died.
PRINCESS ALIANDRA MARTELL, who succeeded her father Qoren at the age of seventeen as the ruler of Dorne in the years following the war.

Aemond took a deep breath as he stood in front of your bakery. ‘The Faun Cottage’ was the name of your store. The display window was decorated with beautiful green leaves and antique books which served to hold cakes and baskets of bread.
He was dressed in a light white shirt with a leather jacket, black jeans, and super comfortable Doctor Martens, which he wears almost every day. His long hair was tied in a low ponytail.
Looking down at the watch on his wrists, he saw it was 2 pm already. “Here goes nothing,” he murmurs as he walks into the bakery. “You better be right, Aegon.”
The scent of fresh bread and coffee along with a sweet herbal smell hit his nose like a train. Inside the shop, it was warm and cozy. Green vines are climbing the walls into the ceiling and some ancient runes are painted on the stone walls which looks like a mix of cottage core with Celtic/Viking vibe. A faint medieval music played in the background. It looks like something from an ancient era.
There are some people seated eating their food, others reading or working while drinking their tea or coffee.
“Mommy! Mommy! My Prince is here!” Emily’s voice echoed through the shop, grabbing his attention. This time she was dressed in a simple brown dress with some hand-painted runes on it. Her black hair was braided, and two small antlers rested on her head.
Aemond smiles down at her and kneels to shake her tiny hand. “Hello, Emily.” He greets her gently. “And what do you suppose to be today?”
She gives him a little twirl and grins. “I’m a druid! I talk to animals and cure people's booboos with my magic!” The girl grabs his hand and pulls him towards the door behind the counter, saying a quick hello to the guy who was attending to a client.
Aemond chuckles and lets the girl guide him. “Hmm, I see.”
Emily opens the door and leads him inside. It was an office by the looks and by the desk full of papers and a laptop, stood a very stressed woman.
“Mommy! Look who’s here!” Emily chirps happily.
You looked up from your papers and gave him a tired smile. “Aemond... I’m happy to see you. Please take a seat.” You try to make your office table more presentable, putting all the paperwork in cases. “Sorry for the mess. It’s been a busy day. Maria needed the day off so I took over her work and... it didn’t go well.”
Aemond sat on the wooden chair in front of you while Emily went to the corner to play with her plush animals. “It’s no problem... Here’s my papers, all the training I did.” He gives you the case. “By the way, you have a lovely bakery. Very creative.”
The grin you gave him made Aemond’s heart almost burst out of his chest. Your eyes brightened at his compliment and how the dimples on your cheeks made you look so cute and innocent.
“Thank you! It was a lot of work to make it the way I imagined but it was worth it.” You say taking a seat on your chair. “So, shall we start with the interview?”
Aemond nods.
“Okay! So, your brother said you had experience with children. Your nephews, right?” Aemond nods again.
“Yes, my sister's children. Twins, a girl, Jaehaera, and a boy, Jaehaerys, of 8 years old, and toddler of 2 years old, Maelor.” Aemond smiled gently at the thought of his nephews.
You took notice of his gentleness as he talked about his nephews, which made you feel more relaxed with the idea of him taking care of Emily.
“They all have beautiful names.” You speak. “I’m not going to lie but it seems you are perfect for Emily. You have basic first aid training and CPR certifications.” You look down and read his papers. “Also, it seems Emily is already attached to you.”
You nod towards your daughter, who has her gaze fixed on Aemond while she plays. Aemond grinned at her which made the girl giggle and run towards him, showing him her favorite plush animal.
You pull up the documents for him to sign and put them in front of him. “It seems you got the job! You can read the agreement and then sign down here.” You smile. “I drive her to her school every morning. So, 3 pm you can go pick her up and she is all yours until 7 pm when I get home.”
Aemond nods and signs the paper. Opening the drawer beside you, you take a small notebook along with a key.
“Here.” You give him the book and key. “In here you will find all her allergies, her school, and our apartment address. That’s the key to our home.”
Aemond takes the book and the key from you, his pale fingers brushing gently against yours. “Thank you, Y/n.”
The way your name rolled through his tongue made your loins curl in a familiar feeling. You cough and look down to your laptop, a faint blush adorns your cheeks. Get a grip, Y/n!
There’s a small pregnant silence between you too. Aemond admires the way your face flushes so easily. Even tired, you look beautiful.
“Huh... Well! Ready for your first day?” You stand up and smile, trying to end the awkward silence.
Aemond also stood up, looking down at a very excited Emily. “Ready as I can be.” He gently grabs the girl's hand while putting her backpack on his shoulder and walks out of the office with you following close behind.
You kneel and give a big kiss on your daughter's cheek, making her giggle excitedly. “Have fun and behave.”
“Yes, mommy.” She grins and kisses your nose.
As you stand up, Aemond quickly pulls his wallet out and takes his business card. “I completely forgot to you give my card.” He says with an apologetic gaze. “My phone number is there in case you need something.”
You nod and take his business card. Emily pulls Aemond’s hand and jumps up and down. “Can I have an ice cream on our way home? Pretty please?”
Aemond looks in panic at you to which you laugh. “Yes, but only this time. Alright?”
“Yippe!” Your daughter squeals happily and pulls Aemond’s hand again. “C’mon! C’mon! Let’s go!” Aemond chuckles and lets the girl guide him while waving a small goodbye at you.
You waved back and watched them turn around the block, disappearing out of sight. You feel tears stinging in the corner of your eyes, the feeling of your daughter's absence drives you to panic.
“Deep breath, Y/n.” You whisper to yourself. “She’s going to be okay.”
Taking a deep breath, you look down at the business card in your hand. Your eyes widen as you see a familiar red logo. A three-headed dragon.
“Wait! He’s THE Aemond Targaryen??!!”
I hope you guys like this chapter!! Feel free to like, comment or reblog!

Cyberchase Character Discussion (for your local Cyberchase trivia quiz) - #2: Matt
I made a post while back talking about archiving material from the Cyberchase website, including the now-removed character bios. I made a post about Inez, intending it to be the first in a series, and then I put it aside. Now I'm getting back to it.
#2: Matt
So, let's start with his character bio in "Meet the Cybersquad". This was released in 2001, before the series started airing in 2002. I don't know how much of this is still canon, given how much time has passed.
Tumblr media
We learn that Matt, like Jackie, is 11 years old. He is presented as Cyber-detective, which is interesting. All of the kids engage in problem-solving. I never really thought Matt was into detective stuff specifically. He is big on the use of his yo-yo when thinking, and he does come prepared with tools in his backpack.
Tumblr media
His favorite color is green, which makes sense, as he wears a green turtleneck in almost every episode. He enjoys pizza and pancakes. He enjoys Brian Jacques's "Redwall" books, so we know he isn't squeamish. I love that his favorite is "anything by Will Smith". This bio really is a product of its time. His favorite movie is "Star Wars". He might be referring to "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope" back when it was titled just "Star Wars", or he could be referring to the franchise as a whole. I wonder if he canonically liked "The Phantom Menace", which would have been the only movie from the Star Wars prequel trilogy out at the time.
Tumblr media
His listed pet peeve is waiting (for anything). That part is definitely still canon, though he has gotten less impulsive and more patient as the series has progressed.
He also has a ton of pets, and this isn't even counting any livestock his family owns on the farm. He has:
A Bearded Dragon named Boomerang
An Armadillo named Spike
An African Water Frog named Sharky
An African Water Frog named Fins
A dog (mixed Golden Retriever and Yellow Lab) named Obi Won Kadoggie
I didn't even know pet Armadillos were a thing.
That's it for the "Meet the Cybersquad" page. I'm a little surprised that they didn't mention that Matt lives on a farm with his family. They also didn't mention his love for Greek Mythology.
We can also look at his introduction from the official Cyberchase prequel web comic, "How It All Started: Episode 3", for this information.
Tumblr media
Narration: Matt lives on a farm with his family, and dreams of being the homerun champ. Little does he know he'll soon be a hero of a different kind.
Tumblr media
Narration: Matt is into Greek Mythology big time!
Here is Matt's official Cyberchase trading card.
Tumblr media
His favorite line, as listed here is "OK, what do we know?". I thought that was actually one of Jackie's common lines, right next to "Let's get organized". I would have used "Touchdown!" here. It also talks about him being interested in magic. I don't remember that interest coming up, even in the Shari Spotter episodes. He's great at skateboarding, yo-yo tricks, milking cows, and trying new things.
He can also be ruthless, like that time he threatened to destroy The Hacker's Grim Wreaker ship.
Tumblr media
We can talk about his impulsiveness and recklessness, like in Season 2 Episode 8: "Whale of a Tale". He saw a steam-filled death pit, where he couldn't see the other side, and tried to jump over it. He thought it was only one meter, due to a partially-obscured sign.
Tumblr media
It wasn't one meter.
Tumblr media
This is not good! This is not good at all!
Tumblr media
Off topic, I love how expressive they made Inez in this episode.
Tumblr media
And of course, he wants to try again.
Tumblr media
He was also at the center of the Cybersquad's disastrous attempt to promote Motherboard's re-election campaign against The Hacker in Season 2 Episode 4 "True Colors". He accused The Hacker of lying about his good deeds without any proof, and it turned out that The Hacker was telling the truth about them after all. Matt's efforts to bring up The Hacker's prior crimes were also seen as mud-slinging.
Tumblr media
I'm not here to bash him as a character. I like Matt, flaws and all. He's a member of the Cybersquad. All three of these actual children have been in way over their heads since the start.
Even in these two instances, the show is careful to show that he learns his lesson. In the incident with "Whale of a Tale", he is one who has Glowla re-check her work and catch her addition mistake when she is computing Spout's new shutdown code.
In the incident with "True Colors", Matt admits that he was wrong in his emotional accusation against The Hacker. Then, he corners The Hacker with the question about curing the virus, which forces The Hacker to lie about the cure. Finally, the Cybersquad as a whole catches The Hacker in the lie about the triangle-based cure. I really need to do a full post on that episode, as it was brilliant.
Let's look at something else. Matt is quite strong. Here he is in Season 2 Episode 6 "Mother's Day" with Inez standing on his head, while Digit stands on Inez's head.
Tumblr media
And here's Matt effortlessly lifting the "Good Vibration" artifact, which is bigger than him, from Season 2 Episode 9 "Double Trouble". Even Jackie and Inez are fleeing from his power. Okay, so they were probably fleeing from The Hacker, who was off-screen, but still.
Tumblr media
What else can we say about Matt? Well, he was originally going to be called Kyle, who had a different haircut and smaller feet. Apparently, Kyle wasn't considered a good name for a farm boy.
Tumblr media
No disrespect to whoever made Kyle, but I prefer Matt's final design. We have the Who's Who document. It does give us a few nire pieces of information. For example, he loves jokes and puns, which I don't remember coming up much in the show. It also confirms that his favorite cybersite is Radopolis.
Tumblr media
I swear that I read some source that claimed he was the "leader" of the Cybersquad. However, I cannot find it now. I didn't think this team structure had a true leader, since all the kids here equal partners.
That's about all I can think to say about him for now.
EDIT: I forgot that Matt had a bio on the Nelvana website as well. I thought only Jackie got one, since I found one for her. I never found one for Inez, Dr. Marbles, Motherboard, The Hacker, Buzz, or Delete. It doesn't help that they used a picture of Jackie on Matt's bio.
Tumblr media
I like the line about him inventing trial and error. If he can collect royalties off that, then he is set for life. It talks about his hands-on learning style, which was a major point in the episode "Problem Solving in Sangri-la". This bio emphasizes him charging forward without a plan, which is a well-known character flaw.

Blacks vs Greens conflict is not about feminism vs patriarchy (though women would fare better under Rhaenyra's rule simply because everyone would), not about "the king's word is law" vs "tradition is law" (though it's close) and not even about good vs bad (though it's very close).
It's about "oath keeping" vs "oath breaking", " honor" vs "opportunism". Oaths are a big thing in ASOIAF, and F&B is setting some background for the main series. In the main books, we are given POVs and nuances: the oaths are rigid, life is complicated, and people sometimes have to make complicated choices, gallant knights could be monsters, and the lofty moral standards could be better upheld by the most unlikely knights (like Brienne or Duncan).
F&B, though, in its Dance chapters is showing us much simpler, "default" picture of Westeros: "you keep to your word - you are good guy", "you break you word when it suits you - you can't be trusted at all". (And trust is hell of important thing if families somehow manage to live for thousands years with the same surnames in the same location.)
"True knights" topic is kinda still there though. The Reach is supposed to be the cradle of knighthood and Faith (note how quiet High Septon is during the whole Dance, btw), but somehow the Reach Greens are the worst. Myles Hightower steals from the treasury, Jon Roxton rapes Lady Sharis Footly and kills her husband, Unwin Peake stabs his own ally Lord Bourney in the eye right in the middle of the council meeting and (very likely) kills Jaehaera later. Tumbleton and Bitterbridge don't really need commenting.

This is an odd piece that I mostly wrote to explore Ciaran's family and upbringing a bit. Who even are these people that Ciaran sold his soul for, etc. Ciaran's story so far can be found here. Mind the tags.
The first job I went out on with my father and his crew, the summer after we moved down south into town, was clearing land for some wealthy family who’d newly moved out of the capital. Henley, the name was.
It was pretty neglected land, overgrown with brush and saplings and fully grown trees right up to the eaves of the big house that would probably be really fancy once it had been taken care of properly. I was working near there - tying branches and whippy green wood into bundles to carry them away - when I noticed him.
Leaning over the half-rotten wooden railing of the balcony on the second floor, he was dressed in such good clothes it took me a second to notice that he was about my age or a little younger; a young fifteen or an old fourteen, maybe.
He was watching us work - or, well, not me actually; his gaze was fixed on the men with hatchets a little further away from the house. I straightened up, wincing and stretching my back, and wondered what it was he found so intriguing about Lin and Maric clearing the brush. Was he that bored out here?
I glanced over my shoulder. Maric had taken his shirt off.
Oh. I realised what it was that he was so fixated on, and what that meant, at about the same time he noticed me watching him.
If he was embarrassed to be caught staring, he didn’t show it. He transferred his cool, intent gaze to me.
Abruptly nervous, I shrugged. I flicked my eyes to Maric, back to him; and tried to contrive a grin that said: hey, I get it. Fair enough.
I did get it, actually; Maric was one of the few younger people around here that wasn’t related to me, so I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t spent a little time looking at him myself. As of last month he was extremely happily married to my cousin Shari, though.
The well-dressed boy’s eyebrows lifted a fraction. Greatly daring - oh man am I going to look stupid if I’ve misunderstood things - I winked at him and turned away.
-
“The garden I wanted to show you is just around here,” Jon said, a little loudly, a little obviously fake - although there was nobody to hear him. We’d left the rest of the crew under one of the trees Jon’s father had decreed would be allowed to stay, staying out of the worst of the midday heat while they finished lunch.
He gave me a conspiratorial look and I grinned, stupidly, trying not to be too dazzled by the sun on his hair and on his very white shirt and pale jacket. I followed him around the side of the shed the crew and I had just finished building last week.
I wondered if, jokes aside, there really was a garden - I wouldn’t have minded seeing it, wouldn’t have minded watching Jon’s face and hands as he talked about it - but once we were in the cool shade of the building he reached out and snagged my wrist, and then before I could think twice we were standing nose to nose up against the wall.
I was suddenly very conscious of the fact that I’d been working all morning, had dirt under my fingernails and ground into my elbows even though I’d washed up for lunch, that my shirt was still saturated with sweat across my back. I probably smelled, too. Surely any second Jon would notice and wrinkle his nose, and then I might need to change my name, buy a ticket on the next coach, and put on a fake moustache to not be recognised while I left the country.
I wondered if it was possible to kiss someone with your hands behind your back.
“Why are you doing that with your hands?” Jon demanded. He batted one of them out of the air playfully from where I had been hovering it. “Am I made of glass suddenly? You weren’t this shy last week.”
“Well - well, your jacket is so nice,” I protested. Heat flared across my cheeks. “It’s white. And I’m all dirty, I don’t want to mess up your nice clothes…”
“Old gods, you are adorable,” Jon laughed.
I tried to laugh off the fluttering feeling in my stomach, tried to tease him in return. “Why are you out in the grounds in good clothes, do you - ”
“Just come back from lessons. Shh.”
And then he put his hands on my chest, and stretched up a little because he was shorter than me, and kissed me. Which was an effective way of shushing me, I had to admit, because I stopped thinking about his clothes or my clothes or the dirt on my elbows or basically anything else.
I didn’t think we were there that long - surely it couldn’t have been longer than a minute or so? But when a loud and angry voice split the air, my first guilty thought was that I had misjudged the time and was late. We had sprung apart - a second of delay because Jon’s hand had curled around my waist and needed to be disentangled - before I realised to my horror that the voice didn’t sound like any of my people.
“Oh, no,” Jon said, and his face was so tight and frightened that I was distracted by a moment of worry for him. The person marching angrily across the broken ground towards us was Jon’s father. I’d seen him several times since starting the job; he’d only ever spoken to my dad.
“Mr - Mr Henley, sir,” I stammered. Maybe I should shut up and let Jon do the talking - but Jon was backing away from me, as if trying to put distance between us as fast as possible, hands brushing down his jacket to straighten it. “I - ”
“What the hells do you think you’re doing?” Henley snarled - his face a furious mask. I thought the question was directed at Jon, not me, which was why I was surprised when Henley reached us and the first thing he did was reach out and grab a fistful of my shirt.
He hit me across the face; not lightly, either, with the back of his hand. I had my hands half-raised instinctively to defend myself, but luckily I realised what a breathtakingly bad idea what would be before I did anything.
Instead I just reeled, my face burning and my ear ringing. I got my feet underneath myself and tried to tug my shirt out of his hand. “Sir! Sir, please!”
“Damn Caresi trash, this time?” he demanded of Jon. He didn’t let go; he twisted the handful of shirt he held and shook it like a terrier with a rat. “You decided to dig in the gutters for this one just to aggravate me, didn’t you?”
Jon flinched and gave me an appalled look. “Father, I - ”
The noise had brought half the crew coming to see what the fuss was; the men who came around the corner first froze and melted back.
The person who came around the corner next was my dad.
I wanted the earth to open up and swallow me.
He took a moment to take in the situation, brows down low over his eyes. I couldn’t meet them; I yanked at my shirt again, fruitlessly. My face was hot and stinging; the slap had happened before anybody else was here, but could Dad tell? I didn’t want him to know. I didn’t want any of the men over there - my relatives and their friends and people I’d worked with for weeks - to know Henley had just slapped me.
“Mister Henley,” Dad said sharply. “Let go of my son, please.”
“Your son, is it?” Henley yanked my shirt as he turned around and I stumbled, only just avoiding falling flat on my face. He didn’t let go. “Well, mister Adarie, maybe you can tell me what your son is doing taking mine back behind outbuildings, with their filthy hands practically down each other’s pants? Is your son a two-copper whore?”
“Father,” Jon said, but he wasn’t as shocked by this as everybody else was; rather he was ramrod-straight and pale. The rest of the crew was milling around behind Dad now and a little murmur went through them. I burned.
“Ciaran,” Dad said. His voice was very level. “Is this true?”
I pulled on my shirt wildly, and managed to get it out of Henley’s grip. I backed away out of his reach. “No, it’s not!” I said, and my voice cracked, humiliated tears springing to my eyes. “I only - we only - it was just a kiss. That’s all! Don’t make it - he makes it sound like -”
Henley made a scoffing noise, disgusted.
He makes it sound so… so low and dirty, I wanted to say. It wasn’t. And it wasn’t - like that. I didn’t even unbutton his shirt. But you might have wanted to. But I didn’t! And even if I had - !
Dad looked at me for a long second and my stomach plummeted; I couldn’t bear the thought that it was disappointment or even disgust that made him take so long to say anything. “You know you’re here to work, Ciaran,” he said. “Should you have been working?”
“No,” I protested. I sniffed desperately and tried to force the tears away. “No, Dad, I - it was the midday break. I’m working, I’m not slacking off…”
Maric, hanging back behind my father’s shoulder, coughed. “That - that is true,” he said, and his eyes were sympathetic when he glanced at me. “We had stopped for midday. There wasn’t anything he should have been doing.”
Dad looked like he wanted to say something else, but in the end all he did was sigh. “Come here,” he said.
I went to do as he said, miserable - but Henley stepped in front and put an arm out. I could’ve got around him, maybe, but I didn’t want to push him and make things worse, so I just stood there like an idiot.
“You seem to have the misapprehension that I’m most concerned about his work,” Henley said, low and furious. “Frankly I don’t care. He could be the best man you have and three times as fast as any of the rest, and I’d still want his hide.”
My stomach dropped; I could feel heat burning in my cheeks but the rest of me went cold. Maric looked alarmed; a muttered conversation went on behind Dad’s back between a few of my cousins. Dad gave me one quick glance, his brow creased, before turning his attention to Henley.
“Ah… sir,” he said. “Hang on, now. There’s no call for that kind of talk... Ciaran’s barely fifteen...”
“No?” I couldn’t see Henley’s face, but I could hear the venom in his voice. The distance between me and Dad seemed to lengthen; suddenly everybody else was way over there, and I was trapped behind Henley and Jon. “You don’t think so? You think I ought to let him creep around corrupting my son, doing whatever - ”
“Don’t be stupid, Father,” Jon interrupted, heated. “If anybody has grounds to claim that it’s Adarie, since -”
“You’ll hold your tongue,” Henley snapped. “We’ll discuss what happens with you later.”
“Look,” Dad said, rubbing a hand over his face. “Look, hang on. Mr Henley… this…it’s unfortunate, and I’m sorry, but let’s not make it more than it is. I apologise for his behaviour. But he’s just a boy. There’s no harm done. There’s no suggestion he’s made your son do anything he didn’t want, is there?”
“No,” Jon said, before his father could answer. He flicked a quick glance at me that I couldn’t read, and then looked to my dad with a mulish expression. “It was my idea. I talked your son into it.”
“Well, then - well, then. They’re just kids,” Dad said. “More heart than sense. No harm done.” As if he said it often enough Henley would believe it. He made what I thought was an attempt at a rueful fellow-feeling smile. “We were all boys once, weren’t we? Eh?”
“Not in the sense that you seem to mean, no,” Henley said, coldly. “I can’t say I was. Perhaps that you think so…. Explains some things.”
Dad shook his head. “Listen, I don’t think it’s good to have this out in public for everyone to gawk at. Let’s - let’s move on, and talk about this later, and let everyone get back to work. Ciaran’ll go. I’ll talk to him - you can talk to your boy.”
“I don’t think it’s talk either of them needs,” Henley said, but he seemed to have tired of the conversation; maybe he didn’t like the reminder that this was happening in public, either? He gave me a look like I was something he’d scraped off his shoe, and stepped to one side. “Fine. We’ll discuss this and the future of the project in my office this afternoon, Adarie. Get back to what I’m supposedly paying you all for.”
I edged along the wall of the shed to get around him, giving him as wide a berth as the poisonous snake he reminded me of. Once I reached Dad’s side I turned around.
Jon was standing at his father’s side, mirroring us; his stance was stiff and there was something very deliberate about the way he held his chin tipped up. I swiped a hand over my face - it was wet and my nose was running, so that was revolting, that was a really dignified way to end this.
“Of course. Ciaran - apologise to Mr Henley, and young master Henley,” Dad said. “And then you’ll have to walk home.”
Apologise to Mr Henley? I would rather have eaten glass, in that second. The words, but, Dad, hovered on my lips, but one look at Jon and his father made me swallow them painfully.
I looked at the ground. “I’m - I’m very sorry for the trouble,” I managed to force out. “Sir. Please forgive me.” In my head I directed it at Jon, because I was sorry to Jon. Sorry because I’d obviously gotten him in trouble; sorry I hadn’t kept a closer eye out for people coming.
Henley sneered at my apology, but he was already turning away. Jon followed him without looking at me, and that hurt, too, unexpectedly.
“Thank Ena,” somebody murmured from Dad’s other side; probably Maric. Somebody else behind him laughed. And maybe I was just really upset and not thinking straight, maybe they meant it as nervousness and relief, but it didn’t feel like it.
“Ciaran, what were you thinking?” Dad demanded, and went to touch my face; to turn it and look at where Henley had smacked me, probably. The anger in his voice made my stomach seize up all over again. “I never thought that you were this -”
I pushed his hand away, ducking my head. “What, are you going to hit me now, too?” I asked, and my voice was all over the place, high and tearful. Of course he was disappointed. Of course he didn’t want to think of me like that.
He looked shocked. His hand dropped. “Ciaran!”
Why does everybody have to be here? Bad enough Dad and Maric! But fucking everyone?
“Can we do this later? You s-said go home, I’m going,” I said, turning away with one hand held up over my eyes in the vain hope that people would stop looking at my face and just let me get out of here.
“All right, later,” I heard Dad say as I went blindly through the ranks of the crew.
-
Later, I lay on my bed upstairs in the house we shared with my Uncle Cob and his family.
The rest of the family was home. I could hear them downstairs, talking over dinner; but I couldn’t make out what they were saying, which was probably a good thing, frankly. My stomach rumbled, but I wasn’t going down there, possibly ever again.
I heard the stairway creak as somebody came upstairs. The door eased open.
“Go away,” I said into the pillow.
“Hey,” Bren said, softly. “It’s only me, Ciaran. Can I sit down?”
I sniffled. Bren wouldn’t be so bad. Bren hadn’t been there, today, he hadn’t seen it - he worked in a factory, not with my dad’s crew. Then again, people had undoubtedly told him, and I couldn’t decide if that was worse. I wouldn’t have privacy up here for very long anyway; my cousin and my brother would be up at bedtime and I’d have to either look them in the eyes or pretend to be asleep already.
Bren took my silence for agreement, shut the door, and came to sit on the bed beside me. The wooden frame creaked. He didn’t try to touch me.
“Your dad sent me up here to have a bit of a talk with you,” he said. No big surprise there. He was the youngest of them, and seemed to have all of the skill with words my dad and my uncle Cob never picked up. “He told me about what happened at the worksite today.”
“So you heard that I’m a two-copper whore,” I said viciously into the pillow. “I guess everybody knows that by now, don’t they?”
I heard him draw in a wincing breath. “Nobody should have called you that, Ciaran,” he said. “I’m sorry.”
I rolled over to stare at the ceiling. “He called me Caresi trash, too,” I said. “That bit was before Dad arrived. Said Jon was after people ‘from the gutter’.”
Bren rubbed a hand through his hair, looking awkward. “Yeah, you’ll… you’ll find that in this part of the country. It’s just not normally that openly put,” he said. “I doubt your dad would be surprised to hear it. Henley sounds like a piece of work.”
“Then why’d Dad take the job?” I asked. “Why’d he offer us the job? If he’s that…?”
Bren sighed. “Ah, if only we could be that picky.”
I stared at the ceiling with my hands twisting in my shirt. “Do we… still have the job?” I wasn’t stupid. We needed that job. If I’d lost it for us…
“Yes,” Bren said. “It’s almost done, as I understand it, everyone will grit their teeth and put up with each other for another couple of weeks. It’s not worth finding another crew for what’s left.”
He turned around to look at me very seriously. “Look, you - you know your dad loves you to bits, Ciaran,” he said gently. “We all do. If he was - stern, today, it’s not because you made him angry. It’s because he was scared for you.”
I avoided Bren’s gaze, turning my head to stare at the wall.
I hadn’t been fair, this afternoon, to ask if he was going to hit me - that was probably part of why Bren was here and he wasn’t. I’d surprised and maybe even hurt him. My father might be gruff and difficult to talk to, but he’d never been that kind of man. It would probably take doing something actually criminal or violent or both before I’d be afraid anybody under this roof would hit me.
But that wasn’t what I’d been afraid of, really.
“I think,” I managed to say, “I think he is angry. Why wouldn’t he be angry?” Angry was not the word that was buzzing about in my head, like a fly trapped behind a windowpane. Angry wasn’t what I was afraid of.
“Yes, but not like - ” Bren waved his hands in a fruitless gesture. “Ciaran, you did something foolish today, not - not something morally wrong, or something your dad thinks is dirty, or something he’s going to think less of you for. He would never - there’s nothing you could do to make us love you less, Ciaran, not a thing, and certainly not something like this.”
Think less of me. Yeah, those were words you could use to describe it, that look of revulsion in Henley’s eyes. Did I think that Dad would look at me like that?
“Mmn,” I said past a lump in my throat.
“The whole - boys, girls, doesn’t matter,” Bren said. He smacked his knee lightly for emphasis as he spoke. “As long as you - as long as you’re treating people right and acting with integrity, it doesn’t matter at all.”
Acting with integrity. Only my uncle Bren could say a phrase like that and have it come out naturally, like he said it every day. “It matters sometimes,” I said - and, to my horror, my voice was going all wobbly again. “It matters to - ”
“It matters to miserable horse’s asses like Henley,” Bren said firmly. “Nobody you should care about. If anybody in this family or the work crew has a stupid opinion about it, you come and tell me.” Oh no. Oh, no, that would not be happening at all, no matter how many stupid opinions anybody has. “Your ma and dad aren’t… This is outside of their experience. They don’t really know how to talk about it, which is why I’m here and not them. But none of us care, and they want to make sure you know that.”
I sniffled, swiped a hand over my eyes. “Okay.” I pushed myself up to sit up, my back against the wall behind me. “So. So Dad just thinks I’m a fucking idiot who embarrassed him in front of the client. He just thinks I ruined the whole fucking job. He just thinks I can’t be trusted to - to - ”
I could just about see Bren wincing at the language, and deciding not to pull me up on it. Well if you can say horse’s ass, I can say fuck, can’t I?
“You didn’t ruin it,” he said patiently. “It’s awkward, the working relationship has soured, but like I said, this guy has been a piece of work from the start so I don’t think there was a lot there to damage.” He sighed. “But, yeah. You made things uncomfortable for him. I think you know what you did was stupid, and you know why. Don’t you?”
“Yeah,” I mumbled, staring at my knees. If Jon had been a girl, I suppose it wouldn’t have gone much better. Caresi trash. “Shouldn’t - shouldn’t let, that stuff, into work stuff. I know.”
I did know - but - well, how often could I expect to meet other people like me? Nice-looking boys who thought I was worth paying attention to? When was that ever going to happen again?
“Uh huh,” he said. “It was a bad judgement call. He’s not going to stop loving you for those, either, thank God or none of us would love anybody anymore in this family.”
That made me smile, which I guess he’d probably intended.
“So that’s about all your dad wanted me to say to you, I think,” he said, clapping his hands together. “The next part is from me.”
“Um. Okay?”
He held his hands steepled in front of his face for a moment, and I could see him sorting out words in his head. “I had this talk with a few of the girls at one point,” he said. “It’s fundamentally not that different.”
I was a little alarmed. “Bren, I’m not a girl…”
“No, and that means there’s a few things you don’t need to worry about,” he agreed. “I’m not expecting you to come home pregnant. But, Ciaran, please bear this in mind for any escapades you might get into in the future. Do not get involved with rich boys or rich men.”
This was not what I’d been expecting. “Huh?”
“Rich men that are employing you are a bad idea for reasons you’ve figured out already, I think, but all of them are trouble,” he said. “Even be careful about boys that maybe aren’t all that rich but aren’t Caresi.”
“That’s not fair,” I protested. “I know lots of non-Caresi people who are -”
“It’s not about them being bad people necessarily, kiddo, it’s about power,” Bren said. He lifted a hand in the air to gesture. “It’s about… if things go bad, like they could have today, who gets left with the consequences and who doesn’t? Who can ruin whose life if they want to? Who can go to the authorities and be believed?”
I frowned. “I mean, honestly? Today? I think Jon got left with the consequences.” I would bet anything that right now Jon was not getting a gentle talk from his favourite uncle about how loved he was, despite making very embarrassing and possibly expensive mistakes.
Bren sighed. “Jon, is that his name? All right. Yeah, Jon’s probably having problems with his family, but not - not the kind of thing I’m talking about. Ciaran, you - your dad was scared today.”
I bit my lip. I knew that.
“If he hadn’t happened to be on site that day,” Bren continued, “Or if Henley hadn’t been able to be talked down - he could have hurt you badly and there wouldn’t be much any of us could have done about it, before or after. What are we going to do, go to the police and tell them this rich landowner had our kid beaten? The police would laugh.”
I wrapped my arms around my knees. “I know. I know.”
Bren reached out and rubbed my shoulder. “Maric told me Jon seemed like a good kid. Took the blame, if Henley was going to lay blame?”
“Yeah,” I said. “He did.” And I’d… made trouble for him, and then left him. It didn’t feel good. Even knowing that there was nothing I could have done about… any of it. “It wasn’t all his idea. It was both of us.”
“Well, I’m glad he’s a good kid,” Bren said gently, “Because if he thought it’d help his position with his father, he could pretty easily have lied and said it was just your idea.”
“But it doesn’t matter whose…”
“I know,” Bren said. “You’re right. But… people get funny about this, Ciaran, the girls get it worse than boys usually. I know you’ve heard people talking. It’s always got to be somebody’s fault. And if you’re…” he hesitated. “There’s nothing wrong with how you are. You have nothing to be ashamed of. But the world won’t always be fair to you.”
Underneath us I could hear the sounds of dishes clattering, people starting to come up the stairs. Sounded like I’d made Bren miss dinner, too.
“No,” I said, looking down at my knees. “I guess I know that.”
“To society at large, someone like Jon?” Bren said. “His reputation and livelihood and well-being is more important than yours is. And it’s very easy for him to hurt you. Even if he never would hurt you, he could. That’s what I’m talking about.” He scrubbed a hand through his hair, looking tired. “You’re young, and I know this is a lot to think about. I don’t mean to depress you, or frighten you, or any of that. I just… I don’t want you to walk into situations where you don’t have power because somebody tells you it doesn’t matter or that love will fix it. It does, and it won’t.”
I wasn’t sure I understood the future that Bren was picturing for me, that this was advice he needed to give me. It seemed like it only applied to a narrow circumstance that wasn’t likely to happen again.
But the rest of it, I got. The world won’t be fair to you, so be careful who you trust.
“All right,” I said, trying to smile. “I’ll be careful, Uncle Bren. I promise.”
“Good lad,” he said, giving me a one-armed hug. “Now, I think they’ve saved you some food. Why don’t we head down and see?”

Hi
Wanted to ask you about the Alys-Aemond thing in the book, i didn't read the book myself but I've read in the wiki that Aemond took Alys to his bed , and she was his prize of the war or something .... wouldn't this considered to be rape ? Since Aemond is obviously much more powerful than Alys in every possible way... and the whole thing about (Spoil or prize of war) is really suspicious. What do you think of this?
“One by one, every man and boy with Strong blood in his veins was dragged forth and put to death , until the until the heap made of their heads stood three feet tall. No trueborn Strong was spared , nor any bastard save ... oddly ... Alys Rivers. Though the wet nurse was twice his age (thrice, if we put our trust in Mushroom), Prince Aemond had taken her into his bed as a prize of war soon after taking Harrenhal, seemingly preferring her to all the other women of the castle, including many pretty maids of his own years.” —Fire and Blood, pg 460
Considering Aemond just had her legitimate relatives murdered and had taken her castle/rest of the smallfolk captive, it does sound like there was some level of coercion going on. However aside from that “prize of war” comment, it’s not really brought up by the text. Other Greens (and the blacks if you count Dalton Greyjoy) took noblewomen as “prizes of war”, like Jon Roxton to Sharis Footly or Hugh Hammer to the knight’s widow; however, those are clearly rape and there’s no fondness between the two people. Aemond clearly felt fondness for Alys, and Alys’ actions don’t make sense unless you consider she cared for him on some level (why would she escape with him from Sabitha? Why marry him? Why come with him to the Battle of Gods Eye? Why become the Witch Queen of Harrenhal when she had the chance to fade into obscurity?) That doesn’t excuse Aemond’s actions, but any pain Alys might’ve felt is glossed over because all of her actions involve supporting Aemond. Considering the mutual affection, it’s a version of Robb/Jeyne if they were both cartoon villains; where he captured her castle, she nurses him, they sleep together, he eventually marries her, and she supports him over her own family despite his men getting some of them killed/imprisoned. So in spite of the suspicious language and power imbalance (though that’s the same for their foil couple Daemon/Nettles) I’m going to say they had a mutual relationship even after Aemond proved he was capable of murdering House Strong, and that the “prize of war” was a biased reading by certain maesters (since Alys as Harrenhal smallfolk would’ve been a Green supporter), because elsewhere they refer to her as a bedmate or paramour. I don’t mean to be glossing over rape, and I apologize if it comes off this way. I just think GRRM wanted Alys/Aemond to be a mutual if evil couple, even if he made the circumstances so over-the-top it seems OOC for a character in her position. And I know his intentions ultimately don’t matter, but Alys is such a 1D cartoon witch that it’s hard to think of her as a character with realistic human emotions.

A huff fell from your lips as you walked up the stairs to your apartment. The moment you saw Aemond’s card, you ran into your office to reread his resume. Desperately to see if you maybe missed something but there was nothing that mentioned the famous Targaryen name.
The Targaryen family is one if not the only, most powerful House in all Westeros. They come from royalty, inherited with old money. You only knew the basics from this ancient family since you didn’t like to read or watch news or drama from celebrities. You think you only heard Aemond’s name once when the news of his relationship with an older woman came out.
Aemond seems a private person so that’s probably why you didn’t hear much about him.
Why would he give his business card if he didn’t want you to know who he was? It didn’t make any sense!
Because he knew I wouldn’t have hired him if I knew the truth before the interview.
You sigh, putting your keys on your door lock and opening it. You were greeted by the sound of your daughter squealing and laughing which made a smile grow on your face.
Putting your bag on a small table beside the front door, you walk into your small but cozy apartment, and you are met by the view of your daughter sitting on the sofa while Aemond sits in front of her on the floor. Letting the small girl play with his long hair.
A giggle fell from your lips as you stared at the ‘beautiful’ hairstyle that your daughter made. One ponytail on the right side of his head, which is held by a hot pink hair tie full of glitter, and two small braids falling on his shoulders.
Emily notices you by the door and jumps in excitement. “Mommy! Look! I tried to do a... val-valryian?” She tried her hardest to say the word but failed which made Aemond chuckle.
“Valyrian.” He corrects her.
“Yes! I tried to make a valyrian hairstyle... but I think it didn’t go well.” She pouts while looking at Aemond’s hair.
You walked to her and gently kissed her head. “It’s perfect, sweetheart.” You took a seat beside her on the sofa. “Did you have fun today?”
Emily nods and smiles. “Yes! We went to the park and ate ice cream there! And then Aem took me to a toy shop and bought me this plushie!” She grabs the green dragon plushie beside her and shows you. “Her name is Vhagar! Aem told me that he once had a BIG lizard named Vhagar so I decided to name it after her.”
“That’s a gorgeous name, Em. Did you thank Aemond for the plushie?” You raise your brow to your daughter as she hugs Vhagar.
The girl nods. “Of course, mommy!”
You smile and pat her head. “Good. Now go clean your toys so we can go eat dinner.”
Emily quickly stood up from the sofa and ran to her room, picking up toys and plushies from the floor on her way there.
Aemond also stood up, pulling down the side ponytail that Emily had done but left the two braids on which were hidden a little by the rest of his hair. He looks down at you and smirks.
“You have a lovely home, Y/n.”
A blush spreads on your cheeks. The way his voice sounds so husky and gentle. His little smirk and the way his eye trails down your form almost made your knees give up.
“Thank you.” You say while folding an orange blanket on the sofa, trying to distract yourself from the handsome man in front of you. “Look Aemond... We need to talk.” You sigh and take a seat on the sofa, Aemond following your lead.
“About?” He asks, frowning in confusion.
You took out his business card from your pocket. “About you being Aemond TARGARYEN! About you coming from a freaking famous and ancient family. And the fact that you left that part out of your resume.” You rest your head in your hands. “Why would you need this job, Aemond?... I doubt it’s because of money.”
He closed his eye and sighed. “I know I should have told you but to be fair, I thought you would notice... You know, the silver hair.” He says while pointing to his hair.
You look down at your hands and let out an embarrassed laugh. “You’re right. I should have noticed that obvious part but in fairness, I rarely watch news or drama.”
He hums in knowledge. “Look, this wasn’t my idea. It was Aegon.” He starts playing with his fingers as his nerves begin to spike up. “I’m in a really bad place right now and my brother thought that if he got me to babysit one of the sweetest kids in the world, it would make me feel better... And I think he was right.”
A smile appears on your lips as a soft smile forms on his thin lips when he talks about Emily. Sighing, you rub your hands together. “Will it be dangerous for Emily if you continue to babysit her?”
Aemond frowns at your words. “Dangerous?”
“Yes, dangerous... Paparazzies, media, etc.” You look into his eye, trying to see if there are any worries that he might be hiding. “I don’t want Emily or me to get unwanted attention.”
Aemond grabs your hand and rubs gently his thumb on your skin. “I swear you and Emily are safe. No media or paparazzi will find you.” He says with a serious face. “I’m a very private person and I have contacts that will keep your life private from the world... so don’t worry, Y/n.”
You nod and sigh in relief. “Okay... Alright, alright.”
The last thing you want right now is an army of paparazzi on your door or following you around and fake stupid stories about you and Emily on the news. You bet Nat would be thrilled and say that you should take this as an opportunity (or take advantage) to grow your business. But of course, you wouldn’t do that. You want your business to flourish on its own and by your work, not by 15 minutes of fame because of Aemond.
His hand squeezes yours gently. Your heart feels like it is going to burst from your chest at the tiny and sweet smile that Aemond gives you. The things you would sacrifice to taste his lips.
For fuck's sake, Y/n. Get a grip!
“All done, mommy!” Emily reappears in the living room, dressed in her pajamas.
You stood up and walked to the kitchen to cook dinner while Emily took a seat beside Aemond, wanting to show him her favorite cartoon show.
After a few minutes, Aemond stood up which made Emily pout. “Well, i think it’s time for me to go.” He leans down and places a kiss on the girl’s head. “See you tomorrow, little princess.”
Emily pouts and grabs his arm. “Please stay a little longer! Eat dinner with us. Mommy is a really good cooker!”
“I don’t want to bother. I-”
“Nonsense! Come, eat with us.” You interrupted him. “I hope you like pasta tho.” You the pot in the middle of the table as Emily went to grab her favorite juice.
Aemond took a seat at the table, humming in pleasure at the amazing smell of your cooking. “I love it.”
From that day, Aemond took the habit of eating dinner with you and Emily. Months go by and you three have got into a healthy routine. You would drive Emily to her school and go to work, and by lunchtime, Aemond would pick her up and take her to the park to play or to his sister’s apartment. Emily and Helaena’s kids become fast friends really quick and at least once a week, Emily goes to spend the night or day with them.
You and Aemond got also close. He would spend a few hours talking to you while drinking wine when Emily was in bed asleep. You two shared some stories from the past, him talking about how he spent the rest of his childhood isolated after the accident when he lost his eye. And you about how hard was to be a single mother at a young age, how Emily’s father just disappeared after her birth and never tried to know or pay child support.
Aemond was quite angry with your ex’s choice of actions, which was understandable, saying if he ever saw that bastard, he would show your ex the consequences of being an irresponsible bastard.
As days pass, you find yourself falling and falling for your daughter's babysitter. You can’t help but feel attracted to him. Aemond was everything a woman would want in a man. Handsome, charming, smart, and good with kids.
Your thoughts are always on him, and your dreams are plagued by his lips and hands. You know that you and he would never work, since both of you are from different worlds. Him being literally from royalty and you are just a simple common woman with a cute bakery.
////
“And then, me and Vhagar would fly away and explore the world!” Emily finishes her tale while showing Aemond her plushie dragon that was ‘flying’ in her hands.
Aemond just picked her up from school and took her to the park since it was a lovely day and she also begged him to go.
Aemond chuckles and gives her a sipping cup of apple juice. “And what about mommy and me? Would you leave us behind?” He faked a pout which made the girl’s eyes wide in surprise.
“Of course not! I would take you both with me!” She takes a sip of her juice and then grins at him. “We would fly to Dragonstone so you and Mommy could marry like the old Valyrian people did!”
Aemond almost chokes on his water. “W-What?” He coughs, trying to breathe normally.
Emily gives him a side-eye. “Oh please. I know you and Mommy like each other.” She takes another sip from her juice while Aemond just looks at her in shock. “You two are always sending weird looks to each other. And I heard Aegon saying that you are always eating mommy with your gaze... I don’t know what that means, but it must be good.”
“Emily!” Aemond was now red as a tomato. That’s it! That’s the last time he lets Aegon hang around with him while Emily is there.
The girl just shrugs. “Mommy likes you too, you know... I’ve never seen her so happy since you both met.” She gives her cup to Aemond and jumps down from the bench. “You should ask Mommy for a date!”
And with that, she runs off to the swings to play with the other kids in the park. Aemond just stood there with a cup of apple juice in his hand, his eye wide in shock at the small girl's words. She sounded so comfortable with the idea of him and you married.
Sighing, he puts the sipping cup on the bag and then looks back to where Emily was playing.
“Maybe the kid is right.”

Jacob Krinn, Wood County (Ohio) inmate, born 2001, incarceration intake at age 21, sentenced to 6 weeks
Obstructing official business, Hazing
Acquitted to involuntary manslaughter and reckless homicide
As one of two former BGSU fraternity members, he was sentenced six-weeks in jail, after being convicted of hazing-related crime counts connected to the death of a Bowling Green State University student in 2021.
Troy Henricksen, 24, and Jacon Krinn, 21, were acquitted earlier of serious charges in the death of 20-year-old Stone Foltz. The charges on the two included involuntary manslaughter and reckless homicide.
Henricksen of Grove City, Ohio, was convicted of hazing and failure to follow underage laws. He was sentenced to 42 days in jail and 28 days of house arrest. Meanwhile, Krinn of Delaware, Ohio, was convicted of obstruction of official business, hazing, and failure to comply with underage law, and was also sentenced to 42 days in jail and 28 days of house arrest.
As per the statement by the authorities, Foltz from Delaware, Ohio died of alcohol poisoning after being hazed into finishing an entire bottle of alcohol at a fraternity initiation event on March 4, 2021. The incident happened when Foltz and a few other members arrived at 8.30 pm at the off-campus house, known to members as the "Bando."
At the event, the members were introduced to the mentor in the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. The mentor heavily pressurized the new members to drink a fifth (approximately 750 ml) of high-alcohol liquor. According to an eyewitness, Foltz finished his bottle in only 18 minutes. But the aftermath of the drinking left Foltz throwing up and unable to walk. Seeing his condition, two members of the fraternity drove him to his apartment. About half an hour later, Foltz’s roommate called his girlfriend Maddie Borja to inform her about the unconscious Foltz. Soon after, they realized that Foltz had stopped breathing and was turning blue. Foltz was taken to Wood County Hospital by paramedics.
Foltz died on March 7, 2021. His heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, and other organs were donated. Later official reports informed that blood alcohol content in his body was .394 g/dL.
Before the sentencing of the two former members, the parents of the 20-year-old made a statement and said the actions of the defendants were “cruel, senseless, and destructive—to their lives and ours.”
After Foltz's death, six former fraternity members pleaded guilty to various charges, and some testified against Henricksen and Krinn. Some were sentenced to jail terms of between seven and 28 days, and all were ordered to spend 28 days under house arrest.
In January 2023, Shari and Cory Foltz, the parents of Stone Foltz,  settled their wrongful death lawsuit with the school for $2.9 million, the Foltzs and university announced in a joint press conference.
In the lawsuit, the Foltz family accused the school of being negligent in failing to provide any oversight or prevent hazing while Foltz was pledging the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Foltz’s parents said the money will be put towards the iamstonefoltz Foundation, which focuses on putting an end to hazing at schools nationwide.

There’s a lot of hints/rumors that children in ASOIAF aren’t fathered by their mother’s husband, including that Aegon the Conqueror didn’t father any of his sons (I do believe Visenya used dark magic to conceive Maegor). There’s Cersei and her children of course, the rumors about Rhaenyra’s sons, Daeron II, Tywin’s sister, Genna, who maybe passed off her bastards as legitimate. Elaena Targaryen had a son whom she claimed to be Ossifer Plumm’s, but is widely suspected to have actually been another of Aegon IV’s bastards. During the Dance of the Dragons, the town of Tumbleton was sacked by the Greens, Jon Roxton claimed Lord Footly’s wife Lady Sharis as his prize and killed Footly when they protested. Later, a son was born to Sharis who was claimed as Footly’s heir but was likely Roxton’s. It’s a reoccurring theme that GRRM seems obsessed with.
GRRM himself is not really a Martin. The man he thought was his grandfather isn’t genetically his grandfather. His paternal grandfather Louis, an Italian, abandoned his grandmother Grace in their youth and started a new family, although Grace, a Catholic, would not grant him a divorce. Martin didn’t have much of a relationship with Louis, but he took it on faith that they were biologically related… only they weren’t. Martin’s actual paternal grandfather was not Louis but a Jewish man, suggesting Louis may have left Grace because she had an affair. GRRM was on the genealogy program Finding Your Roots about that discovery but it’s likely something he already had suspicions about to get on that program to have some family mystery to solve with DNA testing. So, this is a major part of GRRM’s identity.
If this is all true abt GRRM, that's interesting! And yes, there are many speculations and proof of nobles having illegitimate children in this world, I remember writing in several posts that there was no way that either in real history or in Westeros that women didn't have ill kids while locked in repressive conditions & unwanted or unfulfilling arranged marriages.

since i like to project onto people (and because I just saw the barbie movie and it was fantastic)--
spider-kids doll collecting headcanons post time (brands, do they play with them, and other stuff)
miles: bratz and barbie collector, but likes Bratz the best. probably also has a dreamhouse that his dolls all live in. does actually play with his dolls sometimes and makes up insane/unhinged stories to cope with being spiderman. Just to distract. stand-in for Dok Ock (redressed Girlz Really Rock Cloe) gets her shit clocked a LOTTTTTTTTT by Tokyo a Go Go Sasha. He's sort of interested in doll repainting, but worries a bit abt wrecking the doll permanently. Esp with his Bratz collection, he almost had to sell a kidney for TAGG Sasha. He's been practicing with the cheap ten dollar Barbies you can buy in Wal-Mart, but he still feels kinda bad. Ganke keeps good watch over his school collection when he has to go be Spider-Man tho. They have an Understanding- Miles watches the Funko Pops when Ganke is at coding conventions, and Ganke watches the dawls when Miles has to fight Green Goblin.
gwen: barbie and monster high collector. just starting out so the collection's not really that big. however, she has all the movies torrented on her computer and watches them when she can't fall asleep. DEFINETELY plays with her dolls too, like has an entire running soap opera going with them that's getting more and more complicated-- toralei is beach ken's bastard daughter that is trying to find the gold that creepover draculaura hid with the help of I Can Be A Mars Explorer barbie, and it only gets weirder from there. Her dad is baffled and confused by it, but she doesn't actually mind (in fact it might be the point). also, a little while after she restarted active collecting, miles gets a text at two am apologizing profusely for opening that collectible because her dad came in to clean her room and took Sweet 1600 Draculaura out of the box "as a treat" and THE TIES AREN'T GOING BACK IN
hobie: refuses to participate in the toxic consumerist nature that this hobby promotes while toy companies dump toxins into the air and kill our crops, while working in tandem with the horrifically abusive beauty industry to promote disgustingly unhealthy body standards to AFAB individuals. does hit the locally owned thrift store on occasion. does sleep with what he has all piled in his sleeping bag like a lil burrito. does carry his favorite around with him in his guitar case. as a little treat. doesn't discriminate with brands, his current favorite is a knockoff of monster high that nobody but him treasures. He jumpscares Miguel with her half zombie-fied face every five seconds and has her play peek-a-boo with Mayday. Peter B finds it funny, Miguel does not lol
pavitr: collects exclusively old and really obscure lines that nobody has ever heard of. Like he can give you a minute description of a random brand that you've never even heard of that lasted for like five minutes in the nineties before flaming out into the discount stores and then pull out their nib AND oob versions. all while saying "oh yeah, im not really into collecting that stuff. it takes up so much space, bro." He's still searching for one but pretends he isn't. also plays with them, along with Gayatri, and their stories are just the cutest sweetest things ever. like they're still batshit insane, don't get me wrong, the climaxes are always massive dance offs that involve the whole collection. but it always ends with their two dolls (Mystikats Azra for Gayatri and Tattoo Divas Shary for Pav) riding off into the sunset on one of the Struts dolls.
miles g (oh yeah that's right you though he'd be getting out of this): also bratz and barbie, and also likes Bratz the best. Since he has (some) Prowler Bux money's (mostly) not an issue. (Please don't ask him abt the noises he made when the Felicia repro was confirmed). He also has a Dreamhouse where they live, however it's shoved into his closet and if you ask him abt it, he will deny it. His stories are even more unhinged and insane then Miles, and usually involve running away from cops (redressed Wild Life Safari Cloe) who are trying to interfere with the hero's (the new pretty n punk sasha's) vigilante business. Which is why Hobie likes to join him a lot. Also into doll repainting, but actually even less confident then Miles-- he can do an amazing Bratz lip but the eyes? Forget it. And rn they're too expensive to buy en masse, so..... hooray :)
(none of them, except for hobie, let mayday play with their dolls. hobie does it because he can fix their hair later and also he doesn't believe in property. the others are too spooked. except for maybe miles, he gives her the barbies he's transformed into Weird Barbies. Peter B finds it so cute he could scream, and Miguel agrees. He never SHOWS it but he agrees.)
TL;DR: they are all very autistic and like to play with their dollies, the end.
