A year in review - the year of PLUCK MY HEARTSTRINGS
I both started and finished writing this au this year. From its conception in January to the preliminary designs to the double ending finale: what a ride. I can hardly believe all the art that came out of this year. I can definitely say I’ve improved haha ❤️.
Honestly I have enough art of each of the main cast to do a whole year of these. This one just happened to be more Princess focused (she’s my first OC, can you believe it?)
2025 will feature some new and some familiar faces 😎✨ in the DCAU - Celestial Meridian (title reveal!!!)

Some of my thoughts since the last episode of Agatha All Along:
The most earnest show of religion in an MCU property is being done through a queer kid. I like that the wider world is learning about the intersectionality of identity. I believe that Billy is as Jewish as William because a) the only family he knows has 'raised' him Jewish and b) his love of witchcraft and ritual and finding ways to explain his world intersect with the rituals and traditions of his faith. Even William was deeply fascinated with magic and witchcraft and journeys of discovery.
Marvel fans are aware that Wiccan is a strong character. The fact that this symbol of masculine strength can be found in a witch boy who is raised to be strong in his sense of self by women in his coven, is awesome. He is drawn to feminine strength as inspiring instead of looking for male heroes. He is attracting feminine forms of protection (Alice), feminine disruptors of the status quo and stereotypes (Lilia), strength in the feminine aesthetic and belief in your innate power (Jen), feminine quest for knowledge and ambition (Agatha). He is being shadowed by death (Rio), but even death gives life in its reincarnation (as we return to earth and feed the earth with our life-force to continue on in new forms).
I believe that Wiccan is/can be as important to the MCU as Spiderman is. Spiderman is a teenager who could be any and everyone. Spiderman looks up to Iron Man, especially but also seeks male role models and approval. (A big part of Iron Man's humanity and softness came from mentoring Peter Parker - I see parallels between Agatha Harkness and Iron Man in this way too).
I believe Wiccan is a version of masculinity to teens that can see that women hold the depth of knowledge and power that he is more interested in unlocking and that their experiences with adversity will be better guides for him as he grows to be the most powerful magic user in the MCU. He is also chosen as a witch and not a sorcerer/wizard/warlock.
Will we be getting little boys and girls and theys aspiring to be wiccans and spidermen equally?

hi, I just read your ask about the "true kal-el/clark kent" and your answer about now it's reductive to try and pin him into one box or another when in truth he'd surely have a nuanced and potentially complex relationship to these two facets of his identity. really interesting and well-said stuff!
further to that, how do you see the constructed persona of Superman: Man of Tomorrow fitting in with this question of identity?
I know that in some stories the costume is/is inspired by kryptonian garb and in others it's not really, and that in some stories he uses the superman persona as a public outlet to live as a man from krypton while in others he tries to hide that side of himself from the public (although usually not for long, like in sstk) and I'd be really interested to see your take on how the superhero dual identity can relate to the immigrant dual identity
Thank you!! I'm glad people enjoy my musings about Immigrant Superman, haha. And this is another fun question! There's a ton of versions with how Clark comes to terms with the persona of Superman all with varying levels of a different diaspora Superman reading- personally I am really fond of the SSTK version.
Tumblr media
Some versions have it so Clark is bestowed the Kryptonian clothes and House of El symbol, but in SSTK Clark gets the idea to present Superman as The World's Strongest Strongman, inspired by circus performers' colorful costumes in a deliberate move to look less intimidating.
Tumblr media
Then we have Ma Kent sewing Clark's Superman costume, translating the "othering alien symbol" into a "S in a funny diamond shape", letting people interpret the symbol to mean the "S" in Superman. What I love about this version is we get to see Clark very relatable-y fear alienation and xenophobia by attempting to present himself as the most palatable, model-minority American Man ever. He doesn't debut as Kal-El the alien, he debuts as Superman! The Strongest Super MAN on Earth.
Tumblr media
If this kind of Immigrant Superman characterization were to continue, I see Clark's relationship to the Superman persona as his outlet to be the approximation of so many identities that he can't quite have all the way. In the beginning of SSTK, Superman was his attempt to be the human approximation of an alien. Afterwards, once he's formally come out as an alien immigrant and can more comfortably showcase and explore his alien powers, the Superman persona becomes his means of connecting to Kryptonian culture. He's not going to emulate being a Born and Raised Kryptonian perfectly, since he's adopted and came to his alien roots later in his life- but his "S" was also a humanized translation of an alien symbol. His costume is now how the only representation (before Supergirl) of an extinct culture. Would he be able to communicate in Kryptonese perfectly? I'd like to think he struggles with it, as many migrants do with learning languages later in life- especially on their own.
Couple all this with the fact "Superman" is the public persona while "Clark Kent and "Kal-El" are his secret identities, makes his journey of connecting to his roots all the more complicated. Because he's doing all that reclamation of an extinct culture while the world watches.
That's how I see it anyway! I feel Superman characterizations that aim to make him "more scifi starting out" and embrace the alien side of him ("make the suit more scifi and less circus strongman!") to be lackluster because they're not taking advantage of Clark being a step removed from Krypton. How Clark presents Superman, from his mannerisms, to the outfit, the anxieties around his alien identity, and which powers he chooses to showcase is an opportunity to tell a compelling story.

Yuna dropping 'sir' before addressing Auron was a significant statement. Here stood a man who had guarded her father with his life, being one of three directly responsible for bringing Spira its latest Calm. His actions have earned boundless admiration and respect from her. Yet, she felt the need to forge a connection that transcended the elder-youth disparity. Her intent on not letting family die was clear, customs be damned.

Hello hello! If nobody has asked yet, Fatutu and Barcarola Actor's AU!
Raises the Actor's AU flag
Hell yeah the kind of ask that's present in every patch 🔥🔥🔥
Barcarola is quite the prodigy in this AU. Her parents made sure she would exploit every opportunity she had in the acting and music department. To be honest, she's more of a musical actress than a drama actress.
She'd rather participate in musicals, so this could be considered the first time she's exploring different corners of acting.
Her paper originally wasn't meant to be Barcarola but a person from Cremona, like an extra, however, after seeing her potential they decided to change her to be one of the main characters of Last Evenings On Earth.
Fatutu was already on set by the time Barcarola was cast, so they already had their main characters covered, considering every other character has appeared before so casting for MCs wasn't as extensive as before.
Barcarola was really, really nervous. She could understand singing and having lines in between, but having full lines of dialogue was something she wasn't used to, so she messed up quite a lot. Thankfully, there were other members who had an equally bad memory for lines, such as Kamuta and Regulus from time to time.
Thankfully, the role of Barcarola wasn't that hard to follow. Her personality is a bit different, with Barcarola (actress) being more shy and less outspoken than her character counterpart, but it wasn't hard to get in character.
And no, her name is not Barcarola. It's a similar situation to Tooth Fairy, she simply adopted the name and now her real name is a mystery for most.
Fatutu has been a part of the crew for a while now, actually, she just never appeared as anything other than an extra. She wasn't trained to be an actress but she managed to befriend the crew enough to make them want to give her a chance, after some acting classes of course. It did take some time for her to finally get a leading role in the series, but she did.
Fatutu had some struggles at the beginning, but she's a quick learner, she had little troubles adjusting to the scripts and the emotional moments of her acting.
She's pretty different from her character in some aspects, but similar in others. She's not as stubborn or clearheaded, but she is a lot more hyperactive. Although they do share similar ways to cope with things and the same determination, otherwise she would have never gotten this far.
Kamuta Is not her actual brother, she does have one but he's not much older than her. Kamuta was hired to play the part, and well he was quite as messy as her before the classes. She found it hilarious but also wanted to help him get better at acting.
She didn't really get along with Teo due to their different personalities but Solene became a good friend of hers.
And Regulus too, although sometimes she wishes she could place tape on her mouth.
When it comes to Barcarola, even Fatutu thinks she has a lot of potential in other fields of acting, so she's her #1 hyper when it comes to that.
Maybe Fatutu may not take acting for a long time, this and a few advertisements on TV being all she has acted in her life, but she could try going for something different. Maybe scriptwriting, Noire does support the idea.

Upon the encouragement of one of my friends. I have decided to revive an old muse I used to have on a now deleted roleplay blog.
-Art commissioned from @cakeinpants -
Tumblr media
This little guy is named Tekkno. He was a fan species I created for the Oddworld fandom that one of my besties convinced me to convert into a fandomless muse, or a character I could freely insert into the Rayman universe without strictly binding him into that fandom alone.
He's a type of limbless lizard, and that tail is part of his actual body. The legs and arms are part of a special suit he wears. The suit is powered by magic which allows him full use of the limbs without having to be completely fastened into the device. He can freely slide in and out when he needs to.
His species live within The Desert of the Knaaren, and are primarily underground dwellers that burrow beneath the scorching sands. His kind are capable of using their voice as attacks. They can harness echolocation and can screech so loud that they can burst one's ear drums. Tekkno is a pacifist and will only use his voice for echolocation purposes or purely to defend himself without having to do lethal damage. He stuns and flees.
Tekkno had big dreams of exploring the worlds and trying new foods, so he broke the norm and ventured out of his home land. A wandering merchant by trade. He peddles ingredients, snacks, and cooked meals from around the world at his stall in the local marketplace in the glade. His stall accepts currency in the form of food, bottle caps for his collection, and shiny objects. This has earned him the nickname of Dragon amongst the marketplace community.
Around new people, he's very anxious and prone to stuttering. When he makes friends, he's not anxious anymore and a lot more outgoing. He's a very kind, polite, and caring person who loves making new friends and learning all about them. He is a big foodie, omnivorous and a scavenger. Sometimes you can find him raiding the dumpsters or trash cans, or he'll just go digging for worms to eat.
He also likes to exchange recipes with people! The hot meals he sells at his stall were recipes he learned on his travels that he cooked all by himself! He believes good food should be shared with the world! If you give him ingredients to work with, he will improvise and whip together a tasty treat for you to enjoy!
He is oblivious to how a lot of things work around the glade. He's not versed in technology and everything fascinates him. He can also be very gullible sometimes. He doesn't know much about the other species outside of his own either.
Tekkno has the voice claim of Alex Hirsch's King Clawthorne, who was also the inspiration for the character in general.
