legitimately insane how to some people, "we should wipe out this ethnic group that we've violently constrained to a ghetto because they're just genetically more violent and dangerous" is a reasonable and justifiable statement but it's Nazi Rhetoric to say something like, "it's bad that Israeli civilians are being killed but acknowledging that as tragic includes acknowledging that the almost daily state-sanctioned murder of civilians by the Israeli government is also tragic and unacceptable"

btw guys speaking of Nazi shit - can we check in, alongside what's been done to Palestinians in the last 75 years, what's the Israeli government's take on the Azerbaijani government's newest round of ethnic cleansing of Armenians? oh are the Israeli government's actions maybe not determined by Jewish identity, but by a commitment to colonial supremacy which puts them on the same page as other violently genocidal states like Azerbaijan, the US, and the UK? god can you Even Imagine?

framing Israeli war crimes as synonymous with Jewish identity is pretty fucked up if we're being honest. I don't think that controlling water and power and movement for a captive population and shooting children dead for throwing stones is an inherent value of Judaism, any more than I think the torture carried out at Guantanamo Bay is an inherent value of Christianity - in both cases they're atrocities carried out by a far right genocidal government using religious identity as a shield.

Calling statements like "Israel is committing genocide against the people it's displaced" inherently antisemitic is doing more to further the idea that all Jewish people are associated with Israel than saying "the Israeli government is doing war crimes," which is a statement of fact about a country that exists and does war crimes. Is criticism of Israel as a nation often used as cover for antisemitism? Absolutely. Does that mean the Israeli government isn't doing literal war crimes repeatedly, on record, while talking publicly about scrubbing an ethnic group off the map? Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh well in the last 48 hours they've definitely cut off water and power to almost 600,000 civilians and allegedly used white phosphorus against civilians so in an extremely factual and unambiguous way yeah man those are Literal War Crimes whoever does them.)

not to sound like someone who censors words a la “unalived” but I do have to say that I appreciate that mad men is deep thought provoking prestige tv I can enjoy without wondering who is going to be brutally murdered next

for anyone who didn't know, in a couple days' time i will be posting the first chapter or so from my fitzier pale rider (1985) au, revelation 6:8, for cowboyshowfest!! i'm very happy w/ how it's turned out so i'm really excited to see what people think of it.

#if you've read franklin canada which me and cinna wrote a couple years ago now it's sort of a sister fic #similar premise; sole survivor v. largely reincarnated cast & very complicated slow-burn plot w/ lots of moving parts #& also a close mirroring/parallel to canon where it kind of hangs over the text on purpose #hrrrngh.... intertextuality!!!!!#it's come out at about 170k words which was about 130k more than planned #but i did thoroughly enjoy writing it over the summer and i keep looking at it even now going ouguhhhghh... pale rider....#it's 16 chapters + epilogue and all totally finished so chapters will probably be published weekly on friday/saturday #you don't need to have read franklin canada or seen pale rider to understand what's happening in it as it's entirely separate but #it does carry a lot of themes from both places purely bc they're things i like the themes of and like to redo/re-explore them #but the basic premise is that if you like undead ghost cowboy francis you're in for a treat #momo.txt

the thing about podcasts for me is that i actually have a really hard time listening to them and have tried to get into at least 20 if not double that over the past few years but have never been able to get through more than a few episodes and that’s usually after forcing myself. this is true for all except one podcast. because i have only ever been able to listen to and enjoy that single podcast, i listen to it on repeat and have been since 2020. i have been informed recently that this is not something that happens with other people

#informed my boss abt this and he was kinda disturbed #‘you just catch up and then start it over again? and then finish it and start it over again?’ yes #old gods of appalachia podcast of all time. genuinely.#if you go into the tag you might find my posts from years ago #one of my posts that i posted about episode 25 still gets likes occasionally #this podcast has gotten me through some really tough times when horrible things have happened in my life and it was a massive component of #my starting to heal a little after my dad passed #and now i listen to it on repeat at my job while i do lab work #old gods of appalachia #ogoa #it was also what helped me become more accepting of my southern accent. bc i moved to the south young and i tend to be a bit of an accent #chameleon so i picked it up easy and then it became how i speak. but i used to suppress it constantly (and still sometimes find myself doing #it) but hearing people who sounded similar just. helped. and i could relate a lot to details in the podcast and suddenly my accent wasn’t #just the thing they use on tv to indicate someone isn’t intelligent or is a bigot #i could write essays on this podcast and how it helped me tbh #and now it doesn’t have to help me through anything necessarily and i just get to listen to it for fun. i love it

book 2 of the year = finished!!!

#mack reads #ya girl has finished the terror!#it was.... interesting #it was in part what i expected and also not at all what i expected at parts #was a little bit disappointed by the like. anticlimacticness of the thing #i think.... it was a slow moving plot for sure which i dont think paid off as much as it could have #it just kind of felt like there was all this build and it kind of just. plateaued?#out of the 2 dan simmons books ive read so far the abominable FAAAAAR outranks the terror like there is NO competition there #i bought his other books summer of night and hyperion so im gonna read those next!!#i have HIGH hopes for summer of night bc it was described several times as having v similar vibes to it by stephen king and that is ENTICING #but i think im gonna read the hunger by alma katsu next!#its shorter than the other two so i can start and finish it tomorrow or sunday #and THEN ill start... probably summer of night #but i digress #final thoughts: the terror was alright and im curious to see how they translated it to the screen!#im gonna start the show tonight!

#*while making a chart* third's lack of familial care meant he had to find his own in group and eventually meant supporting his leader #where later uraraka was raised with love that she would go as far for her parents as third originally would have gone for second #and still is inclined by nature to a supportive role- she has no great aspirations on leadership or power itself but in how she can help #other heroes (where previously how to help a ragtag freedom fighter group)#*continuing to make a chart* now Second's influence on Izuku could link to that early acceptance of 'yeah world isn't fair'#and i see a link in how Second really took apart his minor speed quirk to do more with it and Izuku's general quirk analysis and hacking #but where Second was mistreated as a threat Izuku was seen as a lack of one and someone to pittied even by those who looked him #which influence the way they react to said injustice though both are moving without thinking to do Something about it #(second having support of a group and Izuku very much not is the deciding factor between Izuku not going with the spider plan methinks)#and i think second + third having teamed up first like how Izuku + Uraraka met first is a good parallel with how Tenya is initially #antagonistic to Izuku but ends up joining both quickly when actual opportunity arises and he sees good things from them #and as Yoichi's somewhat black and white morality did develope somewhat specifically to oppose a terrible brother‚(i gotta finish that fic #where i go more into how they pushed each other more extreme to try to shut down loopholes) Tenya's developed in a way both supported by and #to support a great older brother which is why murder is a hundred percent ok if it's for tensei's sake #and this can be expressed by their different aproaches to making their hair look very different from or very similar to their brothers #speaking of hair that chapter where Uraraka did #a ponytail that spiked upwards? and third's hair? i see it #just as i see a connection when it comes to how she grapples and redirects enemy momentum to the fa jin power and connected combat style #also second scar = Izuku's ofa activation and tbh both could not care less about what their hair is doing dhfhfjgg #plus something about Izuku's 'gotta give ofa away' mode we joke about activating and Second's specific disapproval of him #man that self esteem deficiency sure can spread across more than one lifetime!#and of course. hands.#hands in the vault. tenya returning the favor to grab Izuku's #though the next step is to wonder about fourth but i do have an idea. wonder if we're on the same track about it again #pocket talks to people #anon

You know how earlier this year I read that sapphic romance book about like, the woman who worked at a gym and the love interest who ghosted her fiancé on her wedding day and I hated it and hated pretty much all the characters and found it generally awful in terms of writing and well, everything? God. Everyone was so hateable in that one.

Lol. A month or two ago I got a YA book that I initially didn’t realize was by the same author (although I did learn early on), but it was like. So much better to me than the other, and now I kind of want to read her other YA books too lol. I think I just feel like maybe her writing style suits YA better or something bc whatever the fuck that gym one was was. Uffda. Tbf I was given it for free so I can’t complain a ton but.

#by bug #i admittedly don’t read a lot of modern romance stuff so it always makes me wince a little #historical romance I really tend to enjoy tho #esp sarah waters books or things that are similar to them bc they’re not like. fully romance but tend to have legit stories and twists #I recommend them very much for wlw romance #anyway. the one I just finished was ‘some girls do’ & it was a super fast read but kind of wholesome ig lol #i would recommend for the age range anyway. or ig ppl like me who didn’t get exposed to books like that earlier and want something cute #now I move onto something sadder called ‘forget me not’ which is also YA I think? but more depressing?#I think it’s about two girls who are planning to run away after school but one gets amnesia??? lol idk man #so far I do like the writing style a lot tho #I have higher hopes for this one
