Technology Standards
I have been grossly uninformed about how standards like USB, WiFi, Bluetooth and so on work.
I thought that a bunch of companies got together opened up their patents and agreed on a standard, and then they got a fee for each chip or connector that implements that standard with a prearranged split
Nope. It turns out that the big tech companies who created the standards don't have a pre-arranged split. They get nothing from companies that create components that meet the specifications. Smaller companies have to work out who owns which aspect of the spec with no help and licence each aspect separately or risk being hit with huge fines and/or cease and desist.
I understand these things have a huge value in R&D but the practice vexes me.

Hey to the next reblogger I'm lazy and pathetic can you please explain why foss tools/operating systems are struggling? Like I feel like it's not just patents/copyrights or bad ux due to common users being good at navigating the clunk, I feel like there's some of both of those things but also more to it as well. But it feels so unfair and sad to see the most used, common, standardized tools be absolutely bonkers pricy and quickly moving to shoot themselves in the nuts with AI implementation

The Art of Software Patent Drafting

software patent drafting is a nuanced task that goes beyond documenting code—it requires capturing the core innovation in a legally defensible and technically accurate manner. Effective software patent drafts must clearly define the inventive concept, its functional components, and how it differs from prior art.
Since jurisdictions often scrutinize software-related claims, the drafting process demands both technical precision and legal foresight. Working with professionals who understand this intersection—such as the experts at Einfolge—can help ensure that innovations are not only well-articulated but also positioned for stronger patent protection.

oh my god i don't speak to my dad anymore cuz hes nutty but i know what he does for a living
and musk is currently pulling a "the software govs use is 50 years old which means there can be no advances"
and that's..... that's what my dad does for a living, he gets paid 500-1k an hour to make software that specifically communicates with old legacy software cause he's a 90s dev who knows the old languages still and it's more efficient to hire a freak who knows how to make something to bridge between the old and new programs than to fully trash the old system
like there's literally consultants that get hired for that specific purpose and as a software guy musk KNOWS this
#personal#im losing a LOT of money and decent work connections cause its less stressful than dealing with the crazy man#who literally called my professors at their personal art studios =_=#but ummm???? um??? hes like a low level linkedin influencer lmfao ._.#for software and THIS specific subject matter#the thing ive been getting raises on at work is making scripts to communicate between adobe software with the spreadsheets our#PLM system at work spits out....to automate a bunch of artwork thru libraries.........????#the way my boss gets me to not leave is by giving me /coolmathgames.com/ as a treat basically#and more money for being able to solve /coolmathgames.com/#i work in corporate and one of our order management systems specifically gets routed thru a windows vista virtual machine#cause they dont feel the need to fix....cuz if its not broke#just make the new things that bridge between the two systems?????#instead of having to transfer over decades of a database it makes 0 sense#idk man im rlly frustrated online cuz one of my dads patents is for a legacy speech to text software#(and the other is for a logistics/shipment thing)#like he wasnt the lead on either project but the speech to text specifically is irritating cuz theres#things ppl call 'AI' and im like....thats a buzzword this is litcherally 90s/00s tech and ive been in the office it was made lol

Why Is Innovation At The Core Of Democracy? Why Then Is The Patent System Destroyed For the Small Inventor?
US Patent System Destroyed: To Advantage The Commercial Giants…It is Anti-Democratic And Anti-Innovation, Thus Anti-Civilization As software continues to eat ever more of the world, and Artificial Intelligence (AI), quantum computing, cybersecurity, and Information Technology (IT) continue to dominate the headlines, job markets, venture investments, and economic deployment, the percentage of…

Vegas already come out with a new version and I miss when they had affordable tiers and would discount by like 60% for an upgrade. I'm not spending $150 on the next one, man. I don't have $150 to spend on that. That's 75% of what I spent to buy my current version
#rnn.p#if someone ever steals their keyframing system for a cheaper product I will be in heaven bc that's 90% of what I use it for#like if you handed me an editing software that was just the timeline + tracks + that keyframing system it'd be perfect#but no other editing program I've used has it in a separate window or lets you copy n paste frames#wouldn't be surprised if they patented it considering the complete lack of other stuff that does it#even their own 'hobbyist' version doesn't fucking have it
