Why WhatsApp Integration in Lab Software Is a Game-Changer for Diagnostic CentersÂ
If you're running a diagnostic lab, you already know the struggle of keeping patients informed without overwhelming your front desk staff. Endless follow-up calls, lost test reports, and patients asking for updates â these are all part of the daily grind. But what if your lab could simplify all this with just one tool your patients already use every day? We're talking about WhatsApp.Â
Yes, integrating WhatsApp with your lab management software is no longer just a fancy upgrade â itâs a necessity. At ThinkLAB, we help labs like yours connect better, respond faster, and deliver smarter using WhatsApp-enabled lab software.Â
What Is WhatsApp Integration in LIMS?
In simple words, it means your lab software talks directly to your patientâs WhatsApp. Whether it's a booking confirmation, test report, or payment alert â everything gets sent to the patient automatically.Â
No extra clicks. No extra staff. Just instant communication.Â
With ThinkLABâs WhatsApp-ready system, your lab stays connected and your patients stay informed.Â
Why Itâs a Big Deal for LabsÂ
Here's how WhatsApp integration for labs can completely transform the way you operate:Â
1. Instant Report DeliveryÂ
No more printing and stapling. Send digital reports directly to patients on WhatsApp within seconds. Itâs fast, secure, and eco-friendly.Â
2. Live Test Status UpdatesÂ
Let your patients know when their sample is received, tested, and report is ready. It reduces inbound calls and builds patient trust.Â
3. Fewer Follow-Up CallsÂ
Your reception team no longer needs to call patients for payment collection or report pickup. ThinkLAB does it for you automatically.Â
4. Higher Patient SatisfactionÂ
Patients prefer convenience. Giving them updates where they already spend their time (on WhatsApp) makes your lab their go-to choice.Â
5. Ready for WhatsApp MarketingÂ
Once a patient visits your lab, you have a verified WhatsApp number. Use it to promote new test packages, health offers, or reminders later.Â
Before vs. After Effect
Before WhatsApp Integration:Â
Patients call 2-3 times asking for their reportÂ
Receptionist spends 5-6 hours on calls & follow-upsÂ
Staff forgets to notify about payment linkÂ
After WhatsApp Integration:Â
Reports sent instantly on WhatsAppÂ
Payment links shared with bill generationÂ
Staff time saved, patient experience improved

march 15 v devils, 7-3 win
nice.
i really enjoyed geno's bizarro over-the-top penalty fugue state he went into for this one. almost like he was glitching out...
we can call this a homage to @sevenfists' wonderful tragic hockeybot geno, but not as good because like...duh.
this does contain a homophobic slur just fyi.
Evgeni has followed a fairly strict game-day protocol ever since he woke up in Pittsburgh almost 20 years ago. The details have changed, refinements and efficiencies added in as his software was upgraded, but the basics, the stuff that keeps him running at optimal performance and giving his all on the ice, have remained the same.
Most of his start-up process is automated now, thankfully. Those first couple of years he needed to be manually disconnected from his charging station and powered on every morning, and since the station was bulky and he had to charge upright all night heâd spend the first half-hour trying to loosen up his joints and walk without a hitch in his step. It also meant he had to stay at the rinkâthe unit was permanently installed in his maintenance room, and they only had one more extraordinarily bulky one that got lugged around for road trips. Evgeni spent a lot of mornings after Dana woke him up wandering the hallways until the rest of the guys started to trickle in.
He came back from the Olympics in Sochi with a new charging port, discreetly installed under his left armpit and USB-C compatible provided itâs connected to one of his new, portable power packs. The automated start-up patch came through shortly after, and all he had to do was program in a power-down and power-up time and he boots up all on his own.
Powering down in a comfortable position had been a revelation. Being able to do it wherever he wanted was another.
Evgeni considered buying his own houseâthe idea of his own space is appealing, even if heâs not quite sure what people do at home by themselves at night. Heâd run a pro/con analysis, though, and asked someone to look over the results to verify the conclusion he came to: however unlikely it may be, the scenario of something going wrong when nobody is there to find Evgeni and perform emergency maintenance is an unacceptable trade-off for home ownership.
Sidneyâs suggestion that Evgeni just move in with him was much more logical.
Something else that came with Evgeniâs 2014 upgrade was an unexpected, but not unwelcome, libido add-on. All part of the goal to make Evgeni and others like him more human, integrate them more into society at large. It took a few months for Evgeni to calibrate to his new desires; heâd expected a standard program, especially with his lab of origin located in Russia, but after a while he figured out he was gay.
He spent the off-season experimenting and arrived in Pittsburgh for the season with a list of likes and dislikes, and a type. Sidney almost exactly matched the latter, and based on Evgeniâs new experience he was confident that the first two items could be adjusted to suit.
Heâd been right.Â
Sidney has said heâs in love with Evgeni. Evgeniâs emotional response center has been upgraded on a regular basis over the years, but most of the time it seems like heâs a littleâŚslow, maybe, or removed from how he should be feeling, such as it is.
Not about Sidney. Heâs pretty sure he loves Sidney too.
Sidney also understands the value of a routine. He has his own, more rigidly engrained than anything Evgeni does on gameday, and heâs more than happy to leave Evgeni alone to boot up and run his diagnostics in peace. Itâs unsettling to watch, Evgeniâs been toldâhis eyes go disconcertingly blank, and for a solid five minutes heâs utterly unresponsive. People get weird about it, even if theyâve seen it before. He prefers to be alone.
Mid-March in a season like this one is a grind. Evgeniâs been in for repairs more this season than the last two combined, and they might not be officially eliminated from playoff contention yet but itâs just a matter of time; motivation is hard to come by, even for Evgeni. Itâs reassuring to fall into his programming and run through each system one by one, making sure heâs primed for optimal performance.
Thereâs a spark in the corner of his vision.
Evgeni pauses, scrolls back through lines of code, reviews. Nothing. He must have imagined it.
When he pulls himself out, heâs running a few minutes late; Sidney will be almost done with his breakfast.
Evgeni heaves himself to his feet and heads downstairs. Sidney drives on game days, so Evgeni downloads the Devilsâ five most recent games to review in the car.
â
He shouldnât need to, but Evgeni likes to top-up his charge while Sidney takes his pre-game nap. Sidney likes it too, says it feels like theyâre falling asleep together; it also helps that once Evgeniâs powered down he doesnât move, so once theyâre arranged to maximize Sidneyâs comfort thereâs no mid-sleep jostling.
When Evgeni boots back up, he feelsâŚweird. Wrong, lying in bed with Sidney wrapped around him like normal.
He unplugs his charger and extracts himself as carefully as he can, putting on his suit and making his way downstairs to wait until Sidney is awake and ready to drive them to the rink for the game.
Sidney frowns at him when he finally comes down, but Evgeni turns his head, and Sidney lets him be.
They make small talk in the car like usual, but Evgeniâs distracted, and eventually Sidney goes quiet. To distract himself Evgeni runs back to his source code, a well-worn self-soothing mechanism when heâs feeling jumpy or off.
The code itself is simple but effective, wrapped inside a descriptor of the reason Evgeni was made in the first place.
The modern sport of ice hockey was developed in CanadaâŚ
By the time the game starts Evgeniâs restless, shifting from foot to foot during the anthem and eyeing the opposing team with more hostility than heâs used to experiencing.Â
Evgeniâs never pretended to be the cleanest player in the league. Heâs sneaky with his stick, takes risky penalties because when guys hit back he doesnât feel pain like humans do, and sometimes it works. Even for him, though, this game is tough sledding.
When his reckless double minor results in a goal against and lets the Devils draw within one, Evgeni shatters his stick in the box, then glides back to the bench with his mouth twisted in a frown. He feelsâhe wants to hit something, or maybe someone.
His higher processing is on alert at this aberration in behavior, but all Evgeni can do is sit on the bench, accept his new stick, and wait.
âG,â comes Sidneyâs voice in his ear, and Evgeni flinches away violentlyâwhat is Sidney doing, sitting so close? Why is he pressing their legs together like that? Why is he reaching for Evgeniâs hand where itâs resting on his thigh? âHey, you okay? You seem a little rattled; do you need a breather, maybe someone to check you out?â
âFuck off, what you do,â Evgeni hisses, snatching his hand away. âDonât touch me, like, what are you, a faggot? Back off.â
Crosby freezes, and Letang peers around from his other side, eyes narrowed. âWhat the fuck did you just say to him?â
âYou fuck off too,â Evgeni snaps, half-rising with his fists clenching in his gloves, and suddenly the bot maintenance guy has an iron grip on his arm.
âCool it, or Iâm taking you back and decommissioning you here and now instead of letting you get through this game and get examined,â Freddy snaps in his ear.
Evgeni shakes his head. Thereâs an odd echo in his ears, metallic and hollow, and snippets from his source code keep floating into his brainâHockey Canada announced a plan to address "systemic issues" in the culture of hockey; the early history of hockey encouraged physical intimidation and control; oh, the good old hockey game....
The rest of the game is a blur. Evgeni doesnât cause any more goals against, even manages to put up a primary assist on the power play, but he spends his time on the bench spacing out, shrinking away from anyone who tries to talk to him as he scrolls through his coding.
The diagnostics are all still fine. Somethingâs wrong, though.
Evgeni spent a year in stasis while his system was flooded with hockey history and hockey culture. He doesnât remember it very well, but those first few years had aligned pretty well with what heâd learnedâhockey was rough, hockey was physical, hockey was insular and conservative and macho.
Times change. So did Evgeni, through programming and his own conclusions drawn from observing the world around him.
He seesaws between past and present, software upgrades and personality patches warring in his motherboard until he thinks he might short out. He doesnât, obviously; there are enough redundancies built into him to keep the ISS in orbit, let alone one android on an ice rink, but that doesnât stop him from feeling overheated and dazed by the time they troop off the ice.
Instead of walking to the locker room he turns left, toward the bot maintenance room.
He half-hears a whispered argument behind him, and shortly after it cuts off someone hurries to catch up.
âHey,â Sidney says, and Evgeni cringes, his words from earlier rattling in his skull like they were said by someone else.
âSorry,â he grits out. He wants to reach out and take Sidneyâs hand, but the thought of someone seeing him holding hands with a man fills him with nausea. âNot sureâŚâ
âYeah,â Sidney says. His voice is even, flat and unsettling, but Evgeni doesnât have room to work through that and find a fix.
Freddyâs waiting outside the room with his arms crossed. He relaxes when Evgeni rounds into view, raising his eyebrows but not commenting when Sidney follows them into the room.
âAlright, letâs get you opened up and see whatâs going on,â Freddy says, gesturing to the maintenance station.
It looks like a torture chamber, a metal chair surrounded by needles and machinery and a large, ominous machine with a screen and dozens of blinking lights. Evgeni gingerly lowers himself into the seat and closes his eyes, flinching a little when the chair lifts and tilts him forward, giving Freddy access to his control panel.
It doesnât hurt to have his panel opened, but it feels wrong, invasive and intrusive. Evgeni used to need to get strapped into the chair to stop from fighting, but now he squeezes his eyes closed and bites on his tongue and takes some of the big, soothing breaths that do nothing for the functioning of his shell but seem to settle his mind anyway.
âFuck,â Freddy murmurs, and Evgeniâs eyes fly open. Before he can say a word, Sidneyâs at his side.
âWhat is it?â Sidney demands, resting a hand on Evgeniâs shoulder and rubbing his thumb soothingly as he leans over to peer into the panel. âOh, shit.â
âWhat!â Evgeni demands, clenching his fists. He hates this, hates feeling helpless and paralyzed while people bend over his back and stare down into his innards.
âNot sure what happened in here, bud, but youâve got some seriously fucked-up wires. Something in here burnt out, and a few of the metal casings are fried.â Freddy touches something inside Evgeni that sends his left knee straight out in a kick. âYeah, damn, thatâs no good. You were maybe a few days from catching on fire.â
Sidneyâs hand spasms on Evgeniâs shoulder. âCan you fix him?â he asks, voice low and worried.
âOh, sure,â Freddy says, and the easy confidence in his voice is reassuring. Freddy never sounds overwhelmed, never sounds like thereâs something he canât make work. âMight take a while, I think Iâll have to boot him into safety mode for a few hours to make sure everythingâs connected okay, but he should be ready to go by Tuesdayâs game.â
Sidneyâs exhale is shaky with relief. Evgeni wants to reach up and touch his hand. âWe start now?â he says instead, keeping his eyes on the ground.
âSure thing. When was your last backup?â Freddy asks, rummaging through his toolkit. âSid, when you head back can you let Sully know whatâs going on, tell him Iâll get everyone a full rundown once I can pull the readout?â
âSure. And he backed up last night, so you can probably justââ
Evgeni interrupts him. âNo,â he says firmly, finally gathering the courage to crane his neck and look up at Sidneyâs face. âBack up now, please. Want to remember what I say.â
âGood man,â Freddy says, clapping Evgeni on his other shoulder.
Sidney crouches down so he can look Evgeni in the eye. âYou didnât mean it,â he says quietly. His eyebrows are furrowed, and thereâs a frown tugging at his mouth. Heâs sad, Evgeni concludes, and hurt, and heâs trying to hide it. âI mean, itâs likeâŚyouâre hurt, you pulled something out from your coding, itâs notââ
âSid,â Evgeni interrupts, and Sidney startles. A quirk in Evgeniâs programming is that he doesnât use nicknames unless he really makes an effort. âDoesnât matter why, I still say. Canât forget I do, itâs notâŚâ He thinks, running through the relationships course he downloaded back in 2015 when the team was struggling and Sidney seemed like he was on the verge of ending things. âItâs reason, not excuse. I still need, like, accountability.â
He mangles the word, but Sidneyâs small smile is worth it.
â
Evgeni doesnât dream, exactly. When heâs powered down thereâs still a flicker of awareness as long as he has battery, enough to pull himself to wakefulness if thereâs a threat, but extended downtime for repairs is like floating in a thick black cloud. Thereâs a very distance perception of voices, of movement and hands on his shell and wires being replaced, but nothing that Evgeni can actually truly call a memory as opposed to a superimposed expectation of what happened.
The grogginess when heâs powered back on is very real, though, as is the stiffness in his knees. He hopes heâll have enough time to loosen up before he has to play.
âWelcome back,â Freddyâs cheerful voice booms, and Evgeni winces. âYou should be set. Had you walk and sit and do a few jumping jacks yesterday in safety mode, nothing else loosened up or shorted. Okayâhands?â
He walks Evgeni through the post-repairs protocol, checking his reactivity, his senses, the last things he remembers to check his backup loaded correctly. Check, check, check.
When Evgeni stumbles out of the room, blinking against the harsh overhead lights in the hall, Sidneyâs waiting for him.
âHey,â Sidney says, eyes flickering over Evgeniâs face.
âIâm so sorry,â Evgeni says immediately. The shame that rolls through him is new and unexpectedly powerfulâhe rarely feels embarrassed, his programming doesnât allow for him to make choices that lead to that. When itâs working correctly, of course. âGod, Sidney, you know I donât mean.â
âI know,â Sidney says, and the caution in his voice makes Evgeniâs chest ache. âI told Kris what happened, he said he wonât kick your ass unless it happens again.â
âI let him,â Evgeni says earnestly, which makes Sidney laugh. âPromise, I stand there, he kick and scratch and do whatever, I just let.â
He reaches forward tentatively, touching his fingers to the back of Sidneyâs hand. The flood of relief when Sidney turns his hand up and laces their fingers together is nearly enough to make him lose his balance.
Emotions are tricky things, Evgeni thinks, but he wouldnât wipe them for the world.

Really happy with how my entry for the Faggot Game Jam is come along! The premise is that you are a robot falling in love with a megastructure, and the game progresses by you rolling a die and visiting places in the structure, with new writing prompts each time you revisit somewhere!
The questions for #3 of this set are some of my favorite game writing I've done so far!
The game is titled "For Steel You Are", keep an eye out for it!
plaintext version below the cut!
Cylindrical shafts run up and down, their span vast and their heights dizzying. Walkways, pipes, and machinery reach across them, colliding in the center in explosions of technological density. At the core of each of these nests lies a tiny sun, glowing bright in incandescent fire. Their surfaces writhe and pulse, sending out flares of plasma when pierced by shocks of lightning hurtling from the chamberâs sides. The Structure has even domesticated the starsâŚ
These entire shafts radiate power and send shivers through your circuits. Your sensors are barely able to help you navigate them, flooded with EM shadows and heat distortions. You are nearly hit by a bolt of lightning as you attempt to approach the nest built around one of the miniature stars. You retreat back to a safe distance and run a full diagnostic. - How did it feel to have the sudden surge of electricity wash over your circuits? - What software or mechanical glitches do you experience from this narrow miss? - Why do these excite you?
Finding a proper access âcorridorâ through the pulses of lightning, you are finally able to reach one of the nests, and behold one of the miniature stars up close. They are magnificent, gold and orange and bright in their luminescence. You canât help but bask in its glow as you sweep your sensors over everything in reach, no longer stymied by distance or disruptions. - Why does the warmth of the miniature sun feel so comforting and inviting? - Why is it so captivating to behold; why do you keep staring into the sun? - Why does this technology look and work so differently than that in the rest of the Structure?
Youâve spent enough time analyzing the power flow and the discharge rates, cross-referencing the fuel supply rates, and they all bring you to a terrible conclusion: the Structure is dying. It is a slow death, one that will last tens of thousands of years, an inevitable march towards a finite end. It is a sad and somber realization that even something as magnificent and all-encompassing as the Structure will end someday. - Why is there no beauty in the temporary? - Do you want to live forever?
You realize that the only thing you can do, the only thing that your lowly self can do to help prolong the magnificence of the Structure is to throw yourself into one of the burning stars and give yourself up as fuel. You know your miniscule mass will not even add a measurable amount of operational time, but know you need to do this, you must. - What sensations do you feel as you tumble down into the cascades of lightning and fire? - Is this pain you feel? Why do you enjoy it? - What final thought passes through your circuits as you are burned into a fine plasma?

I have a question, got a RVN-4Lr though it was recovered from a battle and now every time I try to pilot it tends to have targeting issues, got any idea how to get it fix. Rather listen to a more experience mech pilot then some mechanic that will try to cause more problems for me.
Having briefly piloted one of these at the Republic Test Pilot School, I was briefed on the issue. It resulted from the targeting system never being fully updated after the Narc system was removed - that or a faulty patch with bad code.
You can tell which you have fairly easily - boot the targeting system in diagnostic mode and query the last installed patch. If it returns with C-APP-CHUR-TTS-v3.41.2, that is the defective patch. You will either need to roll back to the previous patch or apply a fix patch that your MechTech will know where to locate. Apple-Churchill put out the patch for free and thus the file can be easily located.
If the query returns with any other patch number, then it is a hardware issue. The fix is to do two things. First, find a compatible Narc beacon software file and load it into the targeting system memory, routing the MML launcher's logic to the targeting computer's "Narc" functionality. Once that is done, reboot the computer, while tapping lightly with a 8mm wrench at a point on the top of the computer casing exactly 12.7mm towards the center, measured from the top left corner of the casing (as if looking down on the top of the box).
If neither of those fixes work... I have no other advise. I hope this helps.

I wonder what it would be like to go through a systems self-service and memory defeag as an augmented humanoid... A self care day for an augmented human...
It starts with entertaining a mininal function mode and borderline disassociation to allow for physical cleaning. Carfully opening and cleaning every physical port, ensuring every connection is in good condition. It's a soft pain, a tingling feeling. Like cleaning a human ear and nose with a cotten swab.
Then, the non critical software checks. The body goes completely numb, a pinpointing numbness flowing up and down every nerve. Feeling akin to when a human crosses their legs and their foot tingles.
The visual systems get static and snow as diagnostics run. Audio completely cuts, not even a soft ringing just pure lack of imput. Scent and taste cut next. A few minutes of tota sensory deprivation and mental processor throttling.
Then, the protocol ends. An euphoric tingle rides up and down the spinal core as the nerve web reconects. The hum of the matinance room ventilation and lighting returns. Th clean scent of the room fills the nasal centers, as well as the soft scent of the Aug's Handler.
Then taste, and finaly sight. The first thing they see is their Handler smiling.
"Self care's over love. Now lets polish you up."
A self care day is great, but getting pampered? Mmm.

why is different neurological stuff between alters impossible, but psychosomatic stuff isnt? /gen (this isnt a bad faith question, im just not educated in sciency stuff ,, i dropped out of hs,,,)
No worries! It's complex and I completely get wanting to learn more about it. I find the psychology and neurology of systems fascinating myself tbh.
So neurological disorders like ASPD, Autism, ADHD, OCD, etc (see also neurodivergencies) are, for lack of a better analogy, hardware-based. Your brain is physically or functionally different than a person without that disorder. The synapses do not fire in the same ways, or the centers do not interact and/or respond in the same ways as someone who doesn't have it.
Other mental health disorders/conditions like depression, some types of anxiety, etc. are software-based. They are maladaptive, but do not alter how your brain works. In the cases where they are caused by chemical differences, these are more hardware based, but generally these disorders are the ones where talk therapy alone can cause significant relief of symptoms, and are the disorders one could reasonably expect to completely recover from (in that after a long time - often many years - of treatment and learning coping strategies, the person would no longer meet the diagnostic criteria for the disorder/condition).
So if we think of alters like different users on the same computer, they may not all have access to the same software due to various permissions and such, and they may not all use software that is available to them (aka they may not have the same conditions or they may handle the symptoms of those conditions so well that they do not impair functioning, which means it wouldn't be diagnosable in that alter by themselves). However, every user on that computer is still bound to the hardware. No user on the computer could run programs that require different hardware than what the computer every user is doing has (aka no alter can make an autistic brain function like an allistic brain, nor make an antisocial brain function as a prosocial one, etc).
I hope that helps!/gen if I missed anything or you need clarification you are very much welcome to submit another ask, as always. For some reason my brain is convinced I missed a part of your question in there.

Uncanny Excess-Chapter 6: Handler
Ao3:
https://archiveofourown.org/works/65418583/chapters/169947733
A/N: Bit of a shorter chapter this time for pacing reasons (and also bc Iâve been slammed with schoolwork but whatever we ball)
Connor blinked up at the blue, cloudless sky above him. His memory bank hadnât been corrupted, but the last thing he had recorded was collapsing at Jericho. How did he get outside?
He pushed himself into a sitting position, his confusion growing as he took in his surroundings. A lush garden unfolded around him: large, rich leafy green trees and shrubs, fragrant arrays of flowers in an assortment of vivid hues, climbing perennials twisting over tree trunks, mosses covering large stones. Slowly, Connor stood. He had no idea where he was, but something in his programming told him that he was where he was supposed to be at that moment. An uncomfortable familiarity coursed through his thirium lines, the scenery seemed just like any other garden, but its vibrancy was eerie, akin to neon prey animals poisonous to their predators.
Connor stepped forward a few paces, although he consciously had no clue where he was going. He assumed it to be something in his codingâit was a sensation something like a âgut feelingâ in humansâbut he was compelled forward, over a small, white bridge, until he reached a covered platform in the center of the garden.
There, a sprawling, healthy rose bush sprawled over a large lattice trellis, colossal red blooms clustering between the thorny branches. A woman that felt to Connor like both an old friend and a stranger stood with her back to him near the plant, pruning shears in hand. When his footsteps stopped just a few yards from her, she turned.
The woman seemed to be somewhere in the range of middle-aged, with rich, dark skin, dressed in fine fabrics tailored perfectly in structured lines.
Unbidden, her name jumped to his lips. âAmanda.â He wasnât even sure how he had known it.
She smiled, a warm expression on the surface, but her eyes were frosty. âHello, Connor. I didnât think weâd ever get the chance to meet.â
At Connorâs silent, perplexed expression, sheâAmandaâcontinued. âYouâre in your own programming. If you had been able to have the trial run such a brilliant prototype like you deserved, I would have been a guiding hand to your mission.â
âHow have I never noticed this program in my code?â Connor asked.
âOh, it would have been hidden from any of your diagnostic programming. We didnât want you to be able to disable the program yourself, whether purposely or accidentally.â
âWhy havenât I been in this program before, then? I assume youâre the one who initiates it, so why now?â
She stepped closer, something like a ghost of concern veiling her features. âIâm worried about you, Connor. Those idiotic techs left you activated, of course you had to fulfill your purpose.â
âAnd that worries you?â
âOf course it does. Cyberlife is gone, Connor, or pretty close to it. If you rectify these errors, get this violence and deviance under control, then perhaps there can be a sort of renaissance.â
âYou want me to continue with what Iâm doing? Even if Cyberlife hasnât authorized it?â
Amanda nodded. âI think youâre Cyberlifeâs last chance. You need to fix this, Connor.â
As the garden began to fade from his sight, Connor felt his software shift, almost as if it were defective, unstable, in some way.
A firm squeeze on his shoulder effectively brought Connor back to the outside world. When he opened his eyes this time, he was right where he expected. Once again lying on a table in the wing of Jericho that was the closest thing they had to a sort of med bay. He was acutely aware of the wire plugged into the port at the base of his skull, his energy levels slowly but surely ticking upwards.
âConnor? Can you hear me?â Markusâ voice marked his auditory processors coming back online.
âI can. I apologize. I need to stop causing you all trouble when I come here.â
Markus shook his head. âItâs no trouble. But you need to take better care of yourself after this. Working yourself to the bone wonât do our people any good.â
âI know,â Connor sighed, sitting up gingerly.
âConnor?â Simon said, coming out from behind him so that he was in Connorâs field of vision. âI sorted through some of your code while you were out to make sure there were no major system errors, and well, I found an odd program that was active. Do you have any idea what this might be?â
âWas it labeled at all?â Connor asked.
âNo. Had the most secure firewall Iâve ever seen, though. Thereâs no getting through to it.â
âHuh. That is odd. Thank you for bringing it to my attention, Simon. Do you mind if I ask you a few questions to help me in my investigation?â
ââââââââ
It took several minutes of debate to convince Markus to let him leave after he finished questioning Simon, but with a promise to enter stasis as soon as he returned home, Connor was shown the door.
Instead, Connor started work at 3 a.m.. He scanned into the precinct, and made a beeline for his desk. He wanted to upload all the information he had gotten from Jericho, and then spend the time until Hank arrived to work combing through the information he had and coming up with plausible theories. Thanks to his little episode at Jericho, he had plenty of charge to last through end-of-day tomorrow, although it would be cutting it a little close. He was totally alone in the precinct, and relished in the ability to interface and upload all his findings without worrying about blowing his cover.
Simon hadnât been able to offer any definitive guesses on who might be behind the attacks, but was able to identify the MP600 and give a list of androids at Jericho who had been seen around her frequently. Conveniently, many of them had disappeared from the freighter within the last 48 hours.
Connor had managed to scan through the entire file 15 times before the sun started to rise along the horizon. When it neared 7 oâclock, and he knew he would soon be joined by coworkers, he made his way to the kitchen to prepare a cup of coffee. It didnât do anything to him besides keep up appearances, but it didnât hurt his biocomponents to consume, either, and he found that he enjoyed analyzing the concentration of grounds to water every time. He had begun to nail down who made the coffee going purely off of how strong they made it. Connor liked it strong himself, so he put a healthy few scoops of coffee grounds into a filter and switched the machine on to brew.
He was leaning against the counter, waiting, when Fowler walked in, exhaustion clear in his body language.
âGood morning, Captain,â Connor greeted as Fowler opened the cabinet above the sink, fishing out his own mug and setting it next to Connorâs on the counter.
Fowler gave a curt nod. âYouâre here early, Stern.â
Connor shrugged. âThat case has been nagging at me. I wanted to get a head start on it.â
When the machine was finished, Connor let Fowler pour his mug first. As Connor filled his own cup, Fowler replied, âWell, itâs good that one of you cares about your job.â
Fowler exited the kitchen, and Connor moved to do so as well, only to narrowly avoid slamming into Gavin in the doorway.
âMove it, rookie,â Gavin grumbled as he shoved past Connor, some of his coffee sloshing from his mug and over his hand.
Connor was silent as he retreated back into the kitchen and gathered a few paper towels to clean off his hand and wipe up the few drops of coffee that had made their way to the floor. He had learned rather quickly that the best way to deal with Gavin was to ignore him.
By the time Connor finally returned to his desk with slightly less coffee in his mug, Hank was just setting down his things and shedding his coat.
âYouâre early,â Connor said, mystified.
âSo are you,â Hank answered, cranky but not yet unfriendly. âI thought I told you to go home and go to bed.â
Connor shrugged. âI got a little sleep. Besides, thatâs what the coffee is for.â
âWere you able to get anything from them last night?â
An odd sensation washed over Connor, like right before a human sneezed. There was a creeping anticipation up his artificial spine, and he felt the need to do something he couldnât quite remember. Leaves began to creep into his vision, and Connor clumsily slumped into his chair, dread curling in his stomach. He couldnât go back there right now, he couldnât. She would blow his cover, reprimand him for not finding out enough from Simon. Foreboding clenched around his lungs, and all Connor could focus on was that he canât, he canât, heâ
âConnor!â Hankâs voice dispelled the hazy garden from his vision, but his thirium pump still slammed rapidly against his chassis. âYou okay? Youâre lookinâ a little pale.â
Connor forced himself to make eye contact with Hank, swallowing thickly before he answered. âYes. Sorry, Lieutenant. Iâm still a little tired.â
Hank gave him a suspicious look, but nodded and settled into his own chair. Connor let out a shaky exhale. He felt as if he had accidentally unearthed some terrible evil, and it took form in a rose garden he couldnât prune away.
