1900 – Baron George Hoyningen-Huene (d.1968) was a seminal fashion photographer of the 1920s and 1930s. He was born in Russia to Baltic German and American parents and spent his working life in France, England and the United States. Born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, Hoyningen-Huene was the only son of Baron Barthold Theodorevitch von Hoyningen-Huene (1859-1942), a Baltic nobleman and military officer. His mother was an American.
During the Russian Revolution, the Hoyningen-Huenes fled to first London, and later Paris. By 1925 George had already worked his way up to chief of photography at French Vogue. In 1931 he met Horst [pictured lbelow, photographed by Hoyningen-Huene], the future photographer, who became his lover and frequent model, and travelled to England with him that winter. While there, they visited photographer Cecil Beaton, who was working for the British edition of Vogue.

In 1935 Hoyningen-Huene moved to New York City where he did most of his work for Harper's Bazaar. He published two art books on Greece and Egypt before relocating to Hollywood, where he earned a living shooting glamorous portraits for the film industry.
Hoyningen-Huene worked before anything resembling contemporary flash photography was known. Working in huge studios and with whatever lighting worked best. There is something about the texture of his black and whites that one seldom finds in contemporary work. Beyond fashion, he was a master portraitist as well from Hollywood stars to other celebrities.
He also worked in Hollywood in various capacities in the film industry, working closely with George Cukor, notably as special visual and colour consultant for the 1954 Judy Garland movie A Star Is Born. He served a similar role for the 1957 film Les Girls, which starred Kay Kendall and Mitzi Gaynor and the Sophia Loren film Heller in Pink Tights.
He died at 68 years of age in Los Angeles.

1938 – Leonard Frey (d.1988) was an American actor. He is best remembered for his performance in the 1971 film Fiddler on the Roof, which earned him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor nomination.
Frey was born in Brooklyn, New York. After attending James Madison High School, he studied art at Cooper Union, with designs on being a painter, before switching to acting at New York City's Neighborhood Playhouse under famed acting coach Sanford Meisner, and pursued a career in theater instead. Frey made his stage debut in an Off-Broadway production of Little Mary Sunshine.
Frey received critical acclaim in 1968 for his performance as Harold in off-Broadway's The Boys in the Band. He would go on to appear alongside the rest of the original cast in the 1970 film version, directed by William Friedkin.
Frey was nominated for a 1975 Tony Award as Best Featured Actor in a Play for his performance in The National Health. Other stage credits include revivals of The Time of Your Life (1969), Beggar on Horseback (1970), Twelfth Night (1972) and The Man Who Came to Dinner (1980). He also played Clare Quilty in the Alan Jay Lerner musical Lolita, My Love which closed, before reaching Broadway, in 1971.
Frey was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as Motel the tailor in Norman Jewison's 1971 film Fiddler on the Roof (he had appeared in the original Broadway musical production as Mendel, the rabbi's son). His other film credits included roles in The Magic Christian (1969), Tell Me That You Love Me, Junie Moon (1970), Where the Buffalo Roam (1980), Up the Academy (1980), and Tattoo (1981).
Frey's television credits included appearances on Hallmark Hall of Fame; Medical Center; Mission Impossible; Eight is Enough; Quincy, M.E.; Hart to Hart; Barney Miller; Moonlighting; and Murder, She Wrote.
Frey died at the age 49 of an AIDS-related illness in New York on August 24, 1988.

1957 – On this date in the United Kingdom, the Wolfenden Report was published. It was the culmination of a request by the Conservative government in 1954 to set up a Departmental Committee to look into aspects of British sex laws. The committee of 13 members committee was chaired by Sir John Wolfenden, Vice-Chancellor of Reading University, investigated the current laws on homosexuality and prostitution. The Wolfenden Report was published after a succession of well-known men, including Lord Montagu, Michael Pitt-Rivers and Peter Wildeblood, were convicted of homosexual offences.
Disregarding the conventional ideas of the day, the committee recommended that "homosexual behaviour between consenting adults in private should no longer be a criminal offence". Contrary to some medical and psychiatric witnesses' evidence at that time, the committee found that "homosexuality cannot legitimately be regarded as a disease, because in many cases it is the only symptom and is compatible with full mental health in other respects." The report added, "The law's function is to preserve public order and decency, to protect the citizen from what is offensive or injurious, and to provide sufficient safeguards against exploitation and corruption of others ... It is not, in our view, the function of the law to intervene in the private life of citizens, or to seek to enforce any particular pattern of behaviour." The recommended age of consent was 21 (the age of majority in the UK then).
The report also discussed the rise in street prostitution at the time, which it associated with "community instability" and "weakening of the family". As a result there was a police crackdown on street prostitution following the report.
"The enforcement of Morals", by Patrick Devlin, stated that "Adultery, fornication, and prostitution are not, as the Report points out, criminal offences: homosexuality between males is a criminal offence, but between females it is not."
The recommendations of the report eventually led to the passage of the Sexual Offences Act 1967, applying to England and Wales only, that replaced the previous law on sodomy contained in the Offences against the Person Act 1861 and the 1885 Labouchere Amendment which outlawed every other homosexual act. The law was only passed a decade after the report was published in 1957.
John Wolfenden came 45th in a list of the top 500 lesbian and gay heroes, Pink Paper, 26 September 1997. It later became known that his son Jeremy Wolfenden was gay.
Tumblr media
2017 – Canada has discreetly granted asylum to 31 gay men from Chechnya working with the NGO Rainbow Railroad,  a clandestine program unique in the world. In April, Justin Trudeau and the Canadian  government strongly condemned persecution of homosexuals in Chechnya. Canada is not the only country to accept gay refugees from Chechnya and other countries in the region. France has accepted at least one person, as has Germany, and two are in Lithuania. An undetermined number of individuals have traveled to European Union countries on tourist visas, and then applied for refugee status. So far, the United States has done nothing.

Shamanic (2022) (with closeup)
by © sophiE D. S. wright - alias MâOphélie
Digital mixed media
Composed on iPadPro
With Procreate
Original artwork 34x34 in.
Open edition fine art prints available at :
The story of this art piece started a long time ago with the imaginary portrait of a shamaness. Initially, it was her and only her, holding a screen of blossoming blue clouds. And her skin and fingers were blue also, as a summer sky.
Then, the picture got blurred with flames of fantasy, orange diffused shapes swaying around the central figure. And I let it go …
A few weeks ago, I found an antique bird, small and smooth as a fetish. And it occurred to me that this bird belonged to the shamaness. Floating on a sea of white clouds, the bird entered my old painting with the first snowflakes, and in this midwinter sweetness, the shamaness blushed, as her screen cleared out to become a bronze mirror revealing a golden bird.
Now is the time of enchantment - all walls have faded away, a tree has grown in the sweet moss and receives the caress of the snow, the birds hold precious gifts in their beaks - a peony and a necklace of ground glass pearls -, the shamaness wears a mysterious ring on her finger. All is silent.
*
Shamanic was composed on iPadPro with Procreate. As in all of my digital work, my signature plays a role in the composition : A little enigmatic accent, here, my name displayed in the form софи (Sophie) in a square partially hidden by the magic mirror.

(again, congrats, and absolutely no pressure if ur being bombarded with these LOL 💗)
thank you for participating in my 300 celebration! (now closed)
I ship you with remus lupin!
a. remus comforting you when you're tired and just want a cry
"Honey?" You sniffled, sitting on the cover of the toilet while you buried your head into the sleeve of your sweater. "Can you open the door for me, please?" You nodded, then realised he couldn't see you, so you reached over and unlocked the door only to return to your curled up position on the toilet. He didn't say anything, not yet. He came over to tower over you, but it wasn't intimidating in the slightest. He was just comforting. His hand found its way to yours, squeezing gently. "Oh, honey," he finally cooed, when you looked up at him. "You know, you don't have to hide in the bathroom to cry, right?" "I know," you hiccuped, watching his concerned face. He frowned sympathetically and cupped your cheek, thumbing at your tears. He gave you a soft smile. "Good."
b. you n remus travelling together
"Where to next?" Remus grinned, even though you had just left the airport, back at home. His hand was already in yours. You watched as your fingers interlocked, then returned his bright smile. "Rome," you said, voice definitive, although you hadn't planned anything at all. His eyes widened. "Rome," he repeated, a dazed look on his face. "Sounds exciting." You giggled when he kissed all over your face. "Really?" you said, voice breathy from laughing so much. He smiled. "Really." He tugged you to him, wrapping an arm around your shoulders. "Anywhere's exciting with you there."
c. matching comfy sweaters with remmy!
"Rem!" you shouted, not caring if your voice was too loud. "Let's wear our new sweaters!" He came out of your bedroom when he heard your voice. He raised his eyebrow, then said, "but we're just at home tonight, honey." "I know," you said, laughing at his expression. "But they're so cute! And we can watch a rom-com," you added. He looked amused, but he didn't respond until you gave him your best puppy dog eyes and he finally relented. "Okay," he sighed, making his way into the bedroom. He paused, then called back, "but it's gotta be something fun!" You thought about it. "The fault in our stars?" you asked, jokingly. He stuck his head out of the door. "You and I have a very different idea of what fun is." You laughed.

LEGO Masters at Comic-Con
LEGO Masters returned to San Diego Comic-Con International (SDCC) in 2024, and I was there! "LEGO Masters: Back Behind the Brick" was Friday, July 26 at 4:30 PM (PT) in Room 6BCF. This was the second year in a row LEGO Masters had a program at SDCC.
*THE HIGHLIGHTS*
Season 5 confirmed!
Most likely this fall!
Also a new Holiday Bricktacular!
Will has a mustache now!
Read on for more details (but no pictures, sorry; call me old-fashioned, but I prefer to experience things in the moment, rather than photograph them... plus the photography rules at SDCC can be pretty strict!).
PANEL BASICS
First off, the 2024 program was in a much larger room than the inaugural 2023 program. Like, soooooo much larger. I was very proud of my fellow LEGO fans for showing up and proving to SDCC that we wanted more (and more, and more) LEGO content in the future.
The 2023 panel was headlined by Brickmaster Amy. In 2024 we got Brickmaster Jamie, because... drumroll... Amy had a baby!!! Big cheers from the crowd. You'll be pleased to hear that both Brickmaster Amy and Jamie are just as delightful in person as they are on the show. They are genuinely friendly, open, and pleasant human beings. Sometimes you get celebrities who are clearly there due to contractual obligations and have no interest in the SDCC experience whatsoever, which is a bummer when attendees have been waiting in line for hours and hours to get in the room (not to mention, looking forward to the experience for several months). Amy and Jamie clearly love and appreciate the LEGO community and want to support us!
The 2024 panel was moderated by Krystle Starr, who participated in Season 1 of LEGO Masters US and went on to win LEGO Masters: Celebrity Holiday Bricktacular as well as LEGO Masters AU: Australia vs. The World. The other panelists were two producers from the show, plus Christopher from the Season 4-winning duo of "Christopher and Robert," aka The Villains.
BIG ANNOUNCEMENTS
LEGO Masters Season 5 confirmed (for this fall?): We got to see a teaser trailer, which confirmed the season and also teased some of the challenges (yes, there's plenty of smashing and exploding). The trailer also revealed Will has a mustache now. It's... something. What the trailer did not reveal was date of the season debut, only that it was part of the 2024-2025 season; however, one of the challenges gave a big hint as to the debut date...
Wicked challenge: OK, so this might only be a big announcement for me, but I was absolutely thrilled to see that one of the challenges is going to be Wicked themed. I love musicals. I love Wicked. I absolutely adored the Wicked Brickified trailer. I can't wait to see part one of the movie on November 22. Speaking of which, although they didn't announce a release date for Season 5, it's pretty safe to assume it will be premiering during the Fall 2024 season. Along with the movie on November 22, LEGO has also not-quite announced the official Wicked sets are dropping October 1. It would make sense for Season 5 to happen during the Fall 2024 season so the challenge coincides with these two events. That's my best detective work right there.
LEGO Masters: Celebrity Holiday Bricktacular also confirmed: they showed a trailer and announced the participants. Sophia Bush, Eric McCormack, Holly Robinson Peete, and Lil Rel Howery will pair up with former LEGO Masters contestants Christine Blandino (Season 3), Stephen Joo (Season 3), Aaron Newman (Season 1), and Corey D. Samuels (Season 1).
Robert and Christopher's set reveal: as part of their Season 4 winner prize package, Robert and Christopher got to see their championship build turned into an actual LEGO set. Christopher showed a couple of early prototypes from the development process, and then showed us the final set, which was also on display at the LEGO booth (and is available for pre-order, shipping August 1). In an adorable full-circle moment, it was revealed that Boone, part of the second place team from Season 1 and now an official LEGO employee, was one of the designers for this set. Goals!
FUN FACTS
LEGO Masters is now in production in 18 countries.
There's approximately 10 million bricks in the LEGO Masters Brick Pit.
Christopher (unofficially) has the largest private LEGO set collection in the world. I say "unofficially" because he is currently in the process of submitting the evidence to Guinness World Records, which requires him to take and submit a picture of every single set... and considering he has OVER 9,000, it is taking him a hot second to finish his application (the current record holder has 6,005 sets).
Christopher wants to turn his enormous collection into a LEGO history museum.
Evil Will wasn't in Season 4 because Villain Christopher defeated him and locked him in his LEGO room [this was Christopher's answer when a small child asked where Evil Will went during Q&A].
Thanks for reading! Hit the bricks :)

Oh oh oh oh (and again ignore this if you want lol):
Netflix and Chill With, Go Ice Skating With, Play Dodgeball Against...
...for Clement Montgomery, Jack Boys, and Meg from Manor of Convenience...!!!
😄
Thank you :D  Original characters yay
So netflix and chill would have to be Meg because she’s way too competitive and aggressive to play dodgeball with lol. She’s into films and photography and so watching netflix or any tv/film could be really interesting and a fun evening. Then we could invite Sophia and the boys too and have a whole group watch!
Ice skating would be Monty because he needs to get some nice fresh air and so do we hahaha and we could go to an outdoor rink. He’d be quite graceful on ice and we’ve only been skating a few times so we’re total beginners and he could teach us a few moves. He’d probably find it really relaxing and we’d be slipping over and he could help us up because he’s such a gentleman. Plus then we could do a show and Jack can come and watch.
And finally dodgeball will be Jack because he’s the most sporty but he’s not likely to be as competitive as Meg. He’d want to win but in a sort of ‘having a good time way’ and he likes to make people feel at ease and included which is definitely what we’d need. He’d make a good team leader. And now we realise it says ‘against’ and not on our team lol but tough we want him on our team!!
:D

IL PLEUVAIT DES OISEAUX en tête des nominations du Gala Québec Cinéma 2020
Tumblr media

A Girl With A Bird (2022)
by © sophiE D. S. wright alias MâOphélie
These is a three stories construction. A first version, inscribed in the tradition of japonisme was released in 2017 under the title Path of Beauty. Then, in 2019, the painting evolved in another direction, the lady shed her skin, put a fair eighteenth century wig on and became part of a short film made of stills set in motion, being one of the Gifts of Birds as the story unfolds :
There was once a Cheshire Cat Owl in my Garden
In his sleep, many many song birds :
Acorn woodpeckers, jays
& dreamy ladies.
Gems, Flowers, Berries
All telling stories …
In 2022, the lady took off her wig to reveal a braided hairstyle intertwined with the berries gifted by the bird. In one of her many hands, she holds three crystal balls pierced by a golden arrow with a leaf - the weapon of Love. She looks pensively and smiles gently, floating on a dreamy flower bed, as the bird carries to her the enigma of a fourth crystal ball.
What lies ahead ?
*
A Girl with a Bird was composed on iPadPro with Procreate. As in all of my digital work, my signature plays a role in the composition : A little enigmatic accent, here, two birds in a magical square holding my name displayed in the form софи (Sophie).

Some fun Anomalies future facts!
Roman's first book becomes decently popular, but is by no means a famous book. Neither is his second or third.
However, his fourth book becomes an almost instantaneous bestseller.
Remy, his husband of two years and a much-beloved if rather unorthodox theater teacher, is very proud (though secretly a little bitter that Roman's second book wasn't the bestseller--it was based off of their relationship, after all).
It takes Virgil 10 years to become a psychiatrist instead of the usual 8 to complete the degree and residency because of his mental health issues.
In the meantime, he makes money with his free-lance photography business.
He remains best friends with Elliot until they move in together after Elliot graduates college, at which point the two of them realize that they want to be in a QP relationship and spend the rest of their lives together.
Logan gets a Ph. D in biochemical science and medicine at the age of 23.
He works on pioneering treatments for cancer and other diseases, and has contributed to many important medicinal discoveries.
He falls in unlikely love with another scientist, whose name is Kai and who is researching genetic therapies for folks with EDS.
They're in a polyamorous relationship because Kai also has a girlfriend, with whom Logan also becomes fast friends.
Patton takes quite a while to determine what he wants to do with his life.
He gets his GED when he's 20, and takes a few classes at community college here and there.
Deciding to take a leaf out of Roman's book, Patton starts writing children's stories (picture books and beginner chapter books) about accepting and dealing with emotion in ways that kids can understand.
He makes enough money off of the books that he can move out and eventually adopt.
Patton adopts four children: Rosie, Walter, Sophia, and Rory.
They adore their uncles and their cousin Kathy, Roman and Remy's slightly spoiled but incredibly sweet baby girl.
Neither Virgil nor Logan ever have kids, but they dote on their brothers' children and love them as if they were their own.
Happy endings may be rather unrealistic objectives for real life, but having lives that are fulfilling and contain plenty of joy is not an unrealistic standard!
Please send questions in about the brothers' lives! I'll write little ficlets/bullet point fics about it. Questions about Patton's 4 kids are encouraged because I love them and I want to talk about them! 💙
