Chemistry behind Black Pepper?!
Tumblr media
Originating in South Asia, Black Pepper, or Kali Mirch, hails from the Piper Nigrum vine. The 5mm red peppercorns, with a single seed, have a history dating back 3000 years. From ancient Egypt to Greece, this spice's journey remains fascinating. With Piperine giving it a distinct spicy flavor, pepper not only adds zest to dishes but also boasts health benefits.

Did y/n ever wake up on a sky island? since they're going along with the Strawhats to Skypiea, it would be kinda funny if y/n is talking about how dangerous the wildlife in the sky is and the numerous ways the animals can end your life and everyone gets more and more concerned as they continue while Luffy just thinks it's cool
I personally think they got snatched by one of those big South Birds one time
(also i think it would be kinda sweet if y/n and Aisa become friends when they're in Skypiea since both are kiddos around the same age range)
Y/n actually has been to sky island due to Roger’s stop there!
Y/n most definitely would talk about how “oh yeah I almost got eaten by a giant snake there, fun times!” While the others are just staring at them with varying degrees of horror while Luffy just asks them questions about the snake lol.
What more funny though is when y/n talks about the shandorians since while in Skypiea with Roger they wandered off and ended up meeting various from the tribe who despite being defensive didn’t harm them.
They talk about how nice the shandorains were to them and how much they sympathize with the group.
Meanwhile the shandorians when meeting Luffy and crew: 🗡️🗡️🗡️
you’re definitely right about the south birds at some point picking y/n up and just flying away lol. Many Birds kinda just has a natural affinity for y/n and end up somehow on y/n shoulder for a long duration of time.
That at least made getting a south bird much more easier….if y/n had remembered to tell that fact to the others lol
Also Aisa and y/n being friends is such a cute thought! I’d imagine while Aisa was scared of the strawhats she’d kinda feel a bit more comfortable around y/n even if she was still apprehensive. But once becoming friends with y/n she’d be really happy, especially since she seems to be the youngest of the shandorians so she doesn’t have many to play that’s around her age.
I’d like to think that once seeing her “treasure” y/n would show Aisa how to garden. Maybe even gifting her seeds for flowers that can’t be found in upper yard and only in the islands of the blue sea. Hibiscus, lilies of the valley, red spider lilies, chrysanthemums, etc.
Maybe Aisa in return would teach y/n about their culture and maybe even gift them something like a beaded bracelet. Since the shandorians are (in my opinion) heavily inspired from indigenous cultures I’d imagine that passing on stories and traditions is important to them just like it is to real indigenous cultures.
Along with Aisa becoming friends with them Wyper also joins this group. I won’t spoil how they become close since that will definitely spoil stuff I have in store later but I do have stuff to say him and y/n’s dynamic. He’s trying to get used to peace and not having to fight for his people anymore meanwhile y/n is asking him about his tattoos and playing Ukulele while he just kinda takes in upper yard.
Wyper is trying to get used to not being defensive all the time and luckily for him he’s now friends with the chillest mf out there (lol).
Wyper unlike Aisa isn’t very curious about the blue sea and the thing’s y/n has experienced but moreso about y/n themself. Which leads him to have long discussions with them while the strawhats celebrate their victory and he relaxes due to his injuries.
Wyper like y/n is someone in a sense who’s focused on the past, but now focusing on the future. Something that brings them very close together despite the very short time they’ve actually spent together.
Aisa and y/n have most definitely dragged Wyper to dance with them, and unfortunately for him Genbo, Kamakiri and Braham will not let him live it down.
Y/n and Aisa also may or may not have made him a flower crown that he may or may not have kept as a keepsake and reminder of who’s future’s he’s fighting for

ramasha do you have any bollywood movie recs?? 🎤
omgggg em im so honored you thought of me!! 🫶🏼🩷
tbh i've sorta been on a journey of watching more bollywood (and south asian cinema in general), since there was a huge chunk of my life where i just never really kept up with releases and was sorta discouraged from watching it so my taste isn't the Most diverse (in terms of genres and years) but i'm working on it 😭 that said, here's my attempt at giving you a lot of different options, so hopefully there's something here that strikes your fancy hehe :3
lots will be under the cut bc im a huge YAPPER.... sorry. also, some of these haven't really aged that well and are sometimes more of just a nostalgic fav and/or ones i think are iconic so... take some of these recs with a grain of salt
some of my bigger personal faves:
om shanti om (2007) — it may hit more if you have a bit more exposure to bollywood cinema and its industry bc it references it a lot, but i still think it's an enjoyable movie regardless! (yes i am biased bc this is one of my fav bollywood movies ever + a huge nostalgic fav. plus SRK and deepika padukone.. can't go wrong there!)
haider (2014) — this movie is SOOOO good! i highly rec it 💞 it's an adaptation of hamlet, set within the backdrop of the 1995 kashmir conflicts. this is actually a part of trilogy of shakespeare adaptations by the director: the other two are maqbool (2003) which is macbeth and omkara (2006) which is othello
main hoon na (2004) — another SRK nostalgic fav
ghajini (2008) — it rips off christopher nolan's memento but i think it adds a lot of its own stuff too and i have a soft spot for it 😭
andhadhun (2018)
kahaani (2012)
tumbbad (2018)
amar singh chamkila (2024)
3 idiots (2009) — the most likely one that non regular bollywood watchers will know and deservedly so imo
gully boy (2019)
hum saath saath hain (1999) — okay not objectively the best movie.. but its a hugely nostalgic and comfort movie for me and i think its great if you wanna watch something that's heartfelt and doesn't have a ton of high stakes conflict
maine pyar kiya (1989) — same as above ☝🏼 i watched this one a lot as a kid
jab we met (2007)
devdas (2002) — worth it for at least the beautiful cinematography, costumes, and gorgeous talented cast
fanaa (2006) — plot is kinda messy at times but it was a real angst machine for me as a kid 😭
photograph (2019)
sir (2018)
bulbbul (2020) — tw for a rape scene though. sorry for the spoiler but it was genuinely really harrowing for me to watch so i think its important to mention
misc other movies i've seen:
qala (2022)
dil bole hadippa! (2009) — admittedly, i haven't rewatched this one in a long time so i can't totally say it holds up. it's a rip-off of she's the man, but … better….. TO ME. yes im speaking from nostalgia bc this is the one i saw first
badhaai do (2022) — this is technically a 'sequel' to the similarly titled movie badhaai ho (2018) but they're actually total standalones
gangubai kathiawadi (2022) — i have such mixed feelings about this one but it's a movie that really stuck with me ever since i watched it soooo yeah
raees (2017) — SRK looks unbelievably fine in that movie. need i say more?
koi mil gaya (2003) — it's a mix of both ET and close encounters of the third kind... but in my very biased, nostalgic opinion: better 🫣 there's also a few sequels, but i only really remember seeing krrish (2006)
josh (2000) — another entry to the SRK looks super gorgeous in this movie 😭 this is basically a desi west side story
go goa gone (2013) — not the best to me, but its a bollywood zombie movie! which was a very new concept to me in that industry so ofc i had to throw it in there
chennai express (2013)
mohabbatein (2000)
dilwale dulhania le jayenge (1995) — had to include this for SRK reasons and also bc it's a massively impactful movie in the industry so i'd be remiss not to
andaz apna apna (1994)
ek ladki ko dekha toh aisa laga (2019)
jaane tu.. ya jaane na (2008)
aaja nachle (2007)
munna bhai mbbs (2003)
gangs of wasseypur - part 1 (2012) — i've only seen the first one in this series but if you want a somewhat slower, meditative, gangster movie this one def fits the bill
what's your raashee? (2009) — can't remember how well this ages (i think it was pretty mid?) but the concept is fun! priyanka chopra plays 12 girls: each personifying a different zodiac sign as the main guy tries to find his soulmate 😭
taare zameen par (2007) — you'll also see this listed as 'like stars on earth' sometimes
amar akbar anthony (1977)
don (2006) — villainous SRK? sign me up! he actually has multiple movies where he's this sorta antihero/"antivillain" type character. and even a few where he's a straight-up villain. i've been trying to get through all of those bc i just love his range
anjaam (1993) — an example of the aforementioned thing ☝🏼 SRK plays a genuinely terrible guy here, and i love how it actually challenges a lot of the tropes that bollywood tends to use in its romances and shows how creepy and stalkerish they actually are (despite it being typically framed in the narrative otherwise)
partner (2007) — i recently found out it was basically ripping will smith's hitch 😭 i haven't seen that one so i can't say which is better, but if you enjoyed that one, you'll probably be into this one too. it's very unserious and not the Best. but i watched it a lot as a kid
aaja nachle (2007)
roadside romeo (2008) — okay this is a very unserious, low budget animated movie rec. it's soooo so silly and dumb but if you're in the market for smth like that, this is an amusing one for that
welcome (2007) — i gotta rewatch this one bc i don't remember a lot but it seems like a lot of tomfoolery and shenanigans
my name is khan (2010) — another one i gotta rewatch for its politics but i figured i'd throw it in regardless
black (2005)
kal ho naa ho (2003)
kuch kuch hota hai (1998)
sholay (1975)
hungama (2003)
some from my watchlist that i haven't seen yet:
(as if this list needed to be any longer.... but anyways! including these bc i think they seem promising/interesting and i think they introduce More variety of genres/time periods than the ones before)
ijaazat (1987)
thappad (2020)
udaan (2010)
merry christmas (2024)
chhoti si baat (1976)
hindi medium (2017)
the lunchbox (2013) — heard LOTS of good things about this one!
lipstick under my burkha (2017)
neerja (2016)
queen (2014)
rajnigandha (1974)
kaagaz ke phool (1959)
anand (1971)
paheli (2005) — it's a mainstream bollywood remake of duvidha (1973)
baadshah (1999)
monica, o my darling (2022)
madhumati (1958)
raaz (2002)
satya (1998)
highway (2014)
oh darling! yeh hai india! (1995)
pyaasa (1957)
sardar udham (2021)
awaara (1951)
shree 420 (1957)
kaminey (2009)
mahal (1949)
chandigarh kare aashiqui (2021)
bunty aur babli (2005)
talvar (2015)
duplicate (1998)
lootera (2013)
mughal-e-azam (1960)
baazigar (1993)
trapped (2017)
fire (1996) — a hugely significant movie in explicitly showing a wlw relationship in bollywood. i believe it was the first in that regard?
stree (2018)
piku (2015)
english vinglish (2012)
umrao jaan (2006) — there's also an earlier version of this movie with the same title that came out in 1981! i haven't seen either yet so i can't say which is better
jodhaa akbar (2008)
darr (1993) — big movie for villain SRK enthusiasts if that interests you too like it does me 🤭

(template)
image description under the cut:
[Image ID: six rectangular gifs of Eddie Diaz and Evan Buckley from 9-1-1, desaturated of all colors except their skin, with an emphasis on the shadows. Each gif is made of a Spotify layout of a South Asian song, and has the album name at the top. The song name is written around the middle, a green heart at the end of that line, and underneath is the artist name. Below the play buttons is "Buddie's Airpods." At the bottom of the gif is a gray box for lyrics, and they are written alternatively in white text for the original lyric, and blue text for the English translation:
GIF 1: Buck watching Eddie with amusement as Eddie turns his head to look up at him in 6.04 as they listen to the forest ranger's conversation. Eddie scoffs out a laugh, looking away as Buck looks up towards the ranger. The album name is Jannat, the song name is Jannat, and the artist line reads, "Ezu; Harshdeep Kaur."
The original Punjabi lyrics read, "Kal mahi di akhan naal akhan char ho gaiyan, othe jannat de dekh darwaze aaya main, dekh jannat de darwaze aaya main." The English translation reads, "Yesterday, I looked into the eyes of my beloved, and it was as if i was at the doorway of heaven, look, i've come to the doorway of heaven."
GIF 2: Eddie watching Buck, Christopher and Denny fondly before ducking his head on a smile in 3.10 blended with Buck smiling widely at Eddie reuniting with Christopher in 4.14. The album name is Ik Lamha, the song name is Ik Lamha and the artist line reads, "Azaan Sami Khan."
The original Urdu reads, "Dil savarta hai tere khayalon se, jagmagata hai tere ujaalo se, raqs karta hai dil tujhpe marta hua." The English translation reads, "My heart is adorned by thoughts of you, it is illuminated by your light, my heart dances as it pines for you."
GIF 3: Buck's gaze dropping away from Eddie after their kitchen conversation like it's painful to look at him, blended with an exhaustedly-smiling Eddie telling Buck that he needs to move on because Eddie has in 5.11. The album name is Sanam Teri Kasam, the song name is Sanam Teri Kasam and the artist line reads, "Ankit Tiwari; Palak Muchhal."
The original Urdu reads, "Tere bin naamumkin, apna guzaara hai, har dua mein maine, tujhko hi maanga hai, tera jaana jaise koi baddua." The English translation reads, "without you it is impossible for me to live on, in every prayer I have asked for only you, you leaving is like a curse."
GIF 4: Eddie laying on the pavement after being shot in 4.13, his hand stretching out towards Buck, blended with Buck with a blood-soaked face, breathly harshly as he watches Eddie's eyes flutter closed. The album name is Marjaavaan, the song name is Tum Hi Aana (Sad Version) and the artist line reads, "Jubin Nautiyal."
The original Urdu reads, "Khatam hogi nahi mitke, kahani yeh kabhi jaana, kahin aisa na ho jaaye, bina deedar main marjaavaan." The English translation reads, "This story won't end upon being erased, my love, may it not happen that, i die without laying eyes on you one last time."
GIF 5: Eddie saying "Almost" in 2.18 in response to things getting back to normal, blended with Buck telling Carla that "the team feels off without Eddie" in 4.14. The album name is Guru, the song name is Tere Bina and the artist line reads, "AR Rahman; Chinmayi; Murtaza Khan; Qadir Khan."
The original lyrics read, "Tere bina beswaadi beswaadi ratiyan, o sajna, rookhi re o rookhi re, kaature kaate kate na, o hum dum bin tere kya jeena." The English translation reads, "without you the nights are tasteless, o beloved, they are dry and withered, they don't pass by, o beloved, without you, what is life."
GIF 6: Eddie tersely telling Buck that "You're 100%. Lawsuit proved that, right?" before walking away, blended with Buck watching Eddie leave as his lips flatten into a sad expression. The album name is Malang - Unleash The Madness, the song name is Phir Na Milen Kabhi and the artist line reads, "Ankit Tiwari."
The original Urdu reads, "Chalte chalte karta salaam aakhri, rab se ab toh maangoon bas dua yahi, hum phir na milen kabhi." The English translation reads, "I give my final goodbye while walking away, now the only prayer I ask from God is that, may we never meet again."

Storytime:-
So, when I had recently shifted to south delhi, our colony only had like 5 houses (abhi 20-35 se jyada honge) and out of them 4 were rich 2 storey houses while one was a jaisa-taisa rented apartment ghar with 4 floors (where I lived). So, sabse gareeb log apartment me rehte the and others were so fucking rude to us like- gajab insaan the. I and other children of the flat would be playing outside and they will be shouting at us to go to home and to get disciplined and other nonsense. Auntyji I am literally 5 what do u expect? The worst one was this woman who loved to call us "uncultured" (in a time i didn't even knew it's meaning) (she was A TEACHER i feel bad for her students). She had 2 sons like 5 yr older than me and at first we used to play together then vo bhi apni maa ke disha mein chale gye. That woman made kid-me's blood boil. The Adults were also tired of her (she would throw literal tantrums if a cow enters our gully and then would fucking hit the poor animal with a broom cuz she can, like Bhai itne laadsahab ho toh society me raho gully mein toh Aisa hi chalta hai). I am usually a nice obeying kid but I started insulting her in HER face. One time she told the baccha party "Shoo! Shor machate rehte hai, headache kar ke rakha hai" and I replied with "Aapke papa ke Ghar mein khel rhe hai jo aapki baat maane?" (Yeah, that is the most rebellious I can get). Her sons specially didn't like my new self and started y'know gaaliyaan aadan pradaan karna. I didn't even knew most of their meaning, I was literally 8 that time. Though, ek baar mera sar aisa ghooma ki I literally slapped one of them. MAHABHARATTT. Yeah, i fought with 2 boys ages older than me all alone (still one of my proudest moments, specially since meine ek ki shirt faar di thi ha vo alag baat hai ki mujhe sprain ekdum ganda waala aaya tha). After that, that aunty went around trying to blacken my name (that worked greatly) uss ne yeh nhi bataya ki uske ladko ne Jo shabd bole the. For the next few years, I was the infamous ladaku ladki of my gully. Which I loved and hated at the same time.

heyyy rid ....mujhe abhi pata chala kya chal raha hai south korea mai
its like disgusting ....i feel like u have a huge crowd at this platform so more people will get aware of it
recently SK ki females internationally help mang rahi thi ki unke liye stand up kare log cuz wahn ke chat rooms nikal ke aye hai which is on telegram uspe wahn ke males chat group mai deepfakes share karte the apne family , workplace , coworkers, school kids and teens , especially family ....nd jab ye baat bahar nikal kar ayi toh ispe uss tym jada action liya hi nhi gya cuz wahn ki government isee important nhi smjhti they let it go like something very normal
unki chays ke jab SS reveal hue toh bht hi diagusting baatein nikali like females ko bht hi zada rights diye hue hai in translation if i say uska matlab ye tha ki bht udd rahi hai ladkiyan niche rehna chahiye like that
aur ye sab sexual harrasment toh hai hi but ye sab females ko nicha ya inferior samjhna jaissa tha nd ofc humiliation ... jispe based unke chat room ka naam bhi hai
after all this first the kolkata case jiska mai reason same inferior dekhna tha uske baad bhi bht cases aye the then abb ye .... aisa lagta hai ki humanity khatam si hoti ja rahi hai
dosri taraf taliban mai jane kya kya restricyion laga diye hai ki bare face bahar nhi nikalna hands nhi dikhne chahiye koi sound nhi nikalni chahiye
uske baad recently ek rape culprit joki US se hai mujhe confirm nhi kahan se hai but hai west ka hi usne bhi bht hi henious crime kiya tha aur 28urs jail ke baad woh bahar aagya hai aur khula ghoom rha like no restrictions over him
ab baat countries par rahi hi nahi hai ye world pe aagyi hai WE ARE NOT SAFE ANYWHERE except agr hum apne mummy papa se chipak kar rahe toh shyd safe ho
idk bht bura lag raha hai kya ho rha hai duniya mai kabhi kabhi aisa lagta hai ki ab kuch matter bhi karta hai ya nhi life mai but fir sab bhulne ki koshish karti hu ...bht mushkil se toh mai kolkata wale case se dimag hataya tha lekin ab ye sab hine laga 🥲🥲🙂‍↔️🙂‍↔️
aorry for such a long rant but bht tym se ye sab mere andhar bhara hua hai
kasam se waise bhi mai kisi relation mai nhi ayi abhi tak aur ab toh shyd sawal hi nhi uthta hai
but again i think lets not lose hope abhi tym hai shyd kuch thik hojaye
i'm going to answer in english bc i feel like this could be of concern for everybody. so the ask basically talks about the different occurrences of SA of women all over the world, including but not limited to the south korea deepfake porn scandal or the absolutely devastating kolkata doctor rape-murder case. i've heard of most of these and i had the same thoughts as you, riya… it's saddening and terrifying that women are seen as something inferior, like a stray dog that they can treat however they like. i feel like the world had gotten better for a while and now its morals are dropping again.
it's scary as a woman, it's scary to go out, to fall in love, to marry, to dress a certain way for joy, to even go to work. i'm not surprised that these korean women won't marry or date men anymore, bc even i, in a modern central european country, am horrified and so freaking scared that i might fall into a guy's trap and end up in a terrible relationship.
i get your fears, my love. i've cried so many times about this now… i'm so sorry you feel that way, too. all we can do is hold onto hope and believe that things will get better, that we will get justice, that men will be educated too, and that we can live a life with somebody who cherishes us and shows us that not everybody is inherently bad. you can vent here anytime. we're all here for you 🫂

ROOP AISA SUHANA MERA CHAAND BHI HAI DEEWANA MERA
☾♔; March 12, 2024 ☾♔; 12:19pm ☾♔; sotd: Chammak Challo (iconic forever Akon) ☾♔; cotd: Artizea Rozan Evron ☾♔; Thistle Grove Academy ☾♔; Audition
𝐓𝐢𝐭𝐥𝐞: adapted lyrics from Bole Chudiyan, the original lyrics are "roop aisa suhana tera, chaand bhi hai deewana tera", basically translates to "You're so pretty, even the moon is crazy about you", and I just changed the you to me.
urg, remembered why I do not like making sets on urstyle. the page fucking AUTORELOADED, got stuck, had to reload my draft and of course, items shifted. luckily I only finished one tiny corner and didn't have to start over. what bakwas yaar. and I forgot to do the zoom trick the first time I published! I can't see it, but shit probably shifted somewhere. 😩😩😩😩😩

a not insignificant amount of my inspiration came from the Ambani wedding, because holy fuck. you might be rich, but are you not THAT rich. And fr, it really highlighted a lot of vieux vs nouveau riche differences, cause the richest man in the world is again Jeff Bezos, but he would not be able to get celebrities to pile onto greyhound buses to attend AND perform at his wedding.
𝐂𝐨𝐝𝐞 𝐍𝐚𝐦𝐞: Peony 𝐅𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐍𝐚𝐦𝐞: Laila Raichand (hindi: लैला रायचंद, arabic: رايشاند ليلى) 𝐍𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞(𝐬): Lulu, Laddo (not a fan of either, use of the latter is limited to Dadi and Daddy) 𝐀𝐠𝐞: 17 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫: cis-female 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐬: she/her 𝐒𝐞𝐱𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: heterosexual 𝐁𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐝𝐚𝐲: Feb 19 𝐙𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐜: Pisces
𝐋𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐬: her family. asoiaf (always with daenerys, the one true EMPRESS). dior. cold coffees. caramel. journaling (she does exchanges with her cousins, it's fun and cute watching bade bhaiyah try). red lipsticks. seaside views. karan johar films. yash chopra films. FROZEN (lovesss Elsa, though relates more to Anna). villainess manwha. sailor moon. chanel. disney.
𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐬: game of thrones. the goddamn patriarchy, like come on. america (just as a whole, she's written it off, just become a new country and try again). western perceptions of south asia and the middle east. culottes. bugs, just no. oversharers, like people who've known you for only 10 minutes and proceed to dump their WHOLE tragic life story on you, buddy, I don't know you, I don't want to know about your traumas.
𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐨𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐭: Recruit.
𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: Laila is headstrong, opinionated, and very stubborn. She knows what she likes and doesn't like, and has no qualms about making those feelings known. She does not believe in "giving grace" to people's bullshit, you can have grace if you're a kid, if you're old enough to know better, you should act better. She can seem mean, and that's not unfair, she's VERY biased towards everyone who she considers as part of her circle, if you're outside of that, she can be extremely vicious, especially if you dare to hurt even a hair of one her people. She's not a big believer in forgiveness or second chances. One and done, hun.
Laila is very much the spoiled youngest child, and spoiled only child. She's the only child of her parents, and the youngest of all her cousins, thus getting double doting, and that shows. She's always done whatever she's wanted and gotten away with it very easily. She can be a little (a lot) narcissistic, and vain, but she's not naive nor does she live in a delusional, la la land fantasy where everything is about her and she's the centre of the universe. She does not think that, HOWEVER, she is very aware that due to her very lucky circumstances, a loving, powerful family, she can do whatever the fuck she wants, she doesn't have any pressure to do anything, there's no "you must marry a good/rich man, you must do this job, you must inherit this magic or this business", she's the baby princess, and she knows well how to take full advantage of that.
Laila is a little aloof and not particularly easy to get close to, though she can get along perfectly fine with people, she doesn't really bother to get to know them herself, and considers anyone outside of her circle as simply an extra in her life. She's not interested in being the centre of everyone's attention, except of course when it comes to her family, but that's just youngest child things. She has no problem speaking up in class, but prefers to do her own thing with her friends, and can be a little snobby, especially towards strangers. While she's not inconsiderate, she also won't act to spare someone's feelings. If you're not her friend, you're not her friend, she'll absolutely help a girl out in a sticky situation (always be a girl's girl), but you don't need to have brunch with her afterwards.
𝐒𝐭𝐲𝐥𝐞: Laila's personal style is "whatever I like", but in general her wardrobe tends towards classic, chic, and preppy clothes. When it comes to "ethnic" wear, she generally prefers Pakistani salwars, and relies on big brands like Sabyasachi and Manish Malhotra for more oppulent event wear. She also prefers salwars and lahengas over sarees, they're pretty but a hassle to wear. She can wear it so long as someone puts it on for her. She also HATES that the culotte trend is back and cannot wait for it die again. Laila is also very much a heel girl, from the first moment she ever got a pair. She's tiny, she needs that feeling of power.
𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐲: Daughter of Turkish business woman Aleyna Burakgazi and Indian RAW Agent Vikrant Raichand, Laila is a djinn through her mother, though her father's family is no stranger to the supernatural either. While her father is by all means a normal (aside from his abs, they are not normal), her grandmother is an Astradhari, the bearer of an astra, a divine weapon, specifically the Agneyastra, the astra of the God Agni. She is also deeply knowledgeable about Kala Jadoo (black magic), but claims she does not practise it. It's a very unreliable claim 'cause it's well known that Dadi (paternal grandma) will fuck you up. While their grandmother has not yet decided which heir to make her successor and pass her astra on to, she has made sure to educate all of them of the power of Astras, the Gods, and kala jadoo.
Laila lived with her mother and more immediate extended paternal family (so her father's brother, his family, and their mother) in India until she was about 7, at which point she and her mother moved to Dubai, where her mother took over Raichand Industries Middle East interests. Her father often travels for work, and cannot maintain contact for extended periods of time, so his presence wasn't as constant as his family's, but whenever present he is always doting and spends time with her and her mother. She is definitely a daddy's girl, he's not the whole cause, but a significant amount of her being spoiled is absolutely his fault. But she is also very close to her mother and admires her very much.
Laila does not exactly have the best track record of controlling her djinn abilities, especially when she's angered. It wasn't too much of a problem growing up, she's mostly a homebody and surrounded by family, and people who know about the magical world, so losing control could be easily covered up and often didn't even need to be. However, one time, she, her best friends Kiran and Isabella, and some other friends went to a concert and as they were leaving, some grown ass adult kept hitting on Kiran, and they were literally 12 years old at the time, how disgusting. It was a kids concert too, like what is that guy even doing? Trash. In her annoyance, Laila exploded his hands, she wasn't aiming to do that, but she has no regrets either. That was a little bit harder to cover up, since it was in public, but ya know, it's Dubai, they're rich, buh-bai pedo. This was not the only time she lost control, but she assumes it was probably this incident that got her on the academy's radar.
Before getting the email, Laila was all set to continue her high school level education at the private school she was attending. Honestly, at first she thought it was spam, all the magic training she's received so far has been passed down generation to generation within family, so she wasn't even aware of Thistle Grove Academy's existence. She was unsure of whether or not to attend, she's already got her dadi and taiji (paternal aunt-in-law) for deeper magical instruction, her mommy for the basics, and she's a Raichand, she can get anything she needs at any time. Ultimately, she was convinced to attend by her one of her besties, Isabella, who is a legacy at Thistle Grove and also got the email.
𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐬: Djinn (also romanized as jinn, anglicized as genies, as a being can also be analogous to an angel, demon, or fairy, but none are entirely accurate)
𝐀𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 & 𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐜: Laila has a number of abilities as a Djinn, such as shapeshifting, mind control, astral projection and body possession, however, ultimately each distinct ability is governed by the same factor and all of them can be classified under the singular power of "Essokinesis", the ability to control reality, though Laila was taught that her power is to make HER wishes come true. Some guy touches her friend and she wants his bones to explode? Okay, boom. Papa's work trip is taking too long, oops, suddenly he's back in India. She wants Valyrian silver-gold hair, she got Valyrian silver-gold hair, that one can at least be hidden easily, you know how awkward it is when you're in the middle of a gun fight in an undisclosed location, and then suddenly poof into the centre of a massive Diwali celebration?
Because her magic is linked to her thoughts and desires, it's hard for Laila to control her abilities and prevent herself from making the silliest thing reality, to forcibly keep her powers from manifesting, she usually wears a simple gold taweez (amulet) given to her by her aunt-in-law's father, Zafar Khan Qadri, who is a Sufi of an Indian branch of the Qadiri Order (as a VERY quick, oversimplified explainary, a Sufi is basically someone who practices Islamic mysticism, honestly of the ones I've met and have been told about, they're more like nerds about magic in relation to Islam rather than a magical priest, but whatever, also Sufism is divided into a bunch of orders which all eventually trace back to Mohammad cause he the OG of everything).
𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬: Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, Turkish, English, French, Portugese (Brazilian), Italian, Russian
𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐲? Pretty chooses pretty? She honestly doesn't know, the general meaning of Peonies is shame, bashfulness, and anger, and like, anger makes sense, but shame? bashfulness? Laila is opposite of that, she's not cinderella, she's the Prince, what does she have to be ashamed about? The meaning of Peonies in China however fits her more, or rather her family, prosperity and honour certainly vibe with the Raichand's and how they value and market their family name.

Orpheus , hermes , persephone , and hephaestus
Orpheus: There are very few songs I like from this era of music; pop just isn’t really my thing. I really like rock music and old Indian music, anything with a strong music instrumental. Neele Neele Ambar Par, Kaash Kahin Aisa Hota, Purple Haze, Everybody (Backstreet Boys) are a few examples.
Hermes: I’ve already stated I’ve always wanted to see the Great Barrier Reef. I’d also love to see the old Aztec-Inca-Maya civilizations in middle and south America, though I’m afraid of the heat, as well as the old Egyptian civilizations. I want to see Dwaraka in India, maybe go to Iceland and see an Aurora Borealis. I have a lot of travel destinations in mind don’t I?
Persephone: Autumn, and no I’m not just saying this because of the Vanserras; it genuinely has the best weather. Although Spring can give Autumn a run for its money, usually it’s too hot. I have a Spring birthday though so there’s that.
Hephaestus: I already did this one and I’m too lazy to think of another response, so Ima copy paste it:
I LOVE MAKING THINGS. I used to paint a lot as a kid (i was never much good at it but hey) and I loved those different clay pots and stuff we made in art class. I had my rainbow loom era too (come on, we all did), still have the set somewhere in my house I’m sure. I also play piano and I tried to compose music, wasn’t my thing, but I’ve been writing for AGESSS though I never shared anything I wrote until recently and I didn’t start fanfic until recently. I also LOVEEEE making poetry; my favorite poem style is Limericks as you might have figured out by the countless limericks I wrote for Tamlin week.

★ Trade experts explain why no Hindi or Pan-Indian film clashes with Salman Khan’s films at the box office: “He’s 100% an ORGANIC star; clashing with him can prove SUICIDAL”!
Nov 7, 2023
Salman Khan’s Diwali release Tiger 3 is nearly a week away and the excitement is tremendous. What’s interesting is that it’ll have a solo release of sorts, as no other Hindi or Pan-India South film is clashing on the same day. In fact, Salman Khan has not faced a clash since 2010. The last time that happened was when his 2009 action super-hit film Wanted was released on the same day as Rani Mukerji-starrer Dil Bole Hadippa.
Dabangg (2010), Ready (2011), Bodyguard (2011), Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Dabangg 2 (2012), Jai Ho (2014), Kick (2014), Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015), Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015), Sultan (2016), Tubelight (2017), Race 3 (2018), Bharat (2019), Dabangg 3 (2019) and Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (2023) released with no competition. Antim (2021) faced a collision with Satyameva Jayate 2 (2021) but then it didn’t feature the superstar in the lead.
Other stars haven’t been that fortunate. Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale (2015) and Raees (2017) were released alongside Bajirao Mastani (2015) and Kaabil (2017) respectively. SRK is at his best position arguably right now and yet, his next film Dunki will have to share screens with Salaar on Christmas 2023. Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha clashed with Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan last year. Salman’s last few films have not done well and yet, no one is ready to come on the same Friday as him.
We asked trade experts about this rare phenomenon. Trade veteran Taran Adarsh said, “He has a huge following and is a darling of the masses. The business he has generated over a period of time in mass pockets is phenomenal. Though he has had a rough patch, he's the pied piper of Bollywood.”
Trade analyst Atul Mohan, in agreement, exulted, “Salman is a very big hero of the masses. He has always had such a huge fan following; Shah Rukh Khan ka aisa following ab bana hai. Aamir Khan never had such a mass pull. Salman’s craze is one of a kind. Hence, filmmakers are wary of clashing their films with him. Itna bada hero hai, kaun takkar lega iske saath?”
Girish Johar, producer and film business analyst, remarked, “Salman is the only superstar who people want to see on screen. He has the maximum on-screen superstardom out of all the actors. It’s a very critical factor. He’s also not on our social media every time, going to malls, opening ribbons, dancing, etc.”
He continued, “Unfortunately his films have not worked as he hasn’t paid much attention to the storytelling, packaging, direction, etc. He has that power that if he gets these things right, then there’s no stopping him. That’s why many are wary of clashing with him as they know that at least in the opening weekend, their film will get butchered.”
Raj Bansal, the owner of Entertainment Paradise cinema hall in Jaipur, explained, “Salman Khan is an action hero. When no one was doing action, he was the only action excelling in this genre. Somewhere, his confidence shook and he also did non-action films like Tubelight (2017), Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015), etc. Only Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) worked in this regard. But even when his films were gadbad, they still made Rs. 100 crores plus. There was a time when the hit films of Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn did Rs. 100 crores. But Salman’s flop films do Rs. 100 crores even today! And his hit films have done more than Rs. 300 crores. It’s thanks to him that the industry realized the true potential of a Hindi film. Hence, clashing with him can prove suicidal.”
He also said, “He’s 100% an organic star. Even Sunny Deol is.”
Girish Johar added, “If he moulds himself to the sensibilities that cater to his fans and also provides intelligent content, then sky is the limit. I think Tiger 3 will do well. It ticks all the right boxes.”
Taran Adarsh also said along the same lines, “Tiger 3 being a brand and essaying a role that is much-loved, I am sure it’ll have a great run and a huge opener.”

yoona was okay in exit with jo jeongsuk but other than that her only performance that's really stood out to me was hush (which is the 2018 performance i referred to lol). it's one of the rare dramas where she had no romance whatsoever and i think that benefited her a lot. not that starring in romances in bad but with the particular archetype she embodies every time of the pure innocent girl who has never done anything wrong ever it gets a bit eye roll worthy. like do something different! challenge yourself rather than simply taking on roles bc you're popular and broadcast stations love you! that's how i feel about mahira too sometimes although obv she's at least somewhat more memorable than yoona lol. but she doesn't seem to challenge herself much either and yeah ig we know why but also when you have all of that opportunity at your fingertips.. why not! i feel like regardless of whatever role she plays all i see is the same performance over and over and over
doesn't this steer the conversation to the question of "are actors lazy for not doing more challenging roles or they aren't being offered challenging roles to begin with?" i know in South Korea even the most veteran of actors complain about how typecasting is a real thing regardless of how well accomplished the actors are. like the senior actors will be only offered thriller dramas and not romcoms. the popular young actors are more likely to get romcoms than do serious stuff. same goes in Pakistan. apart from a few, not even a handful, of actors everyone else is more or less resigned to take on characters out of necessity of doing a job than following true passion. aisa kuch banta hi nahin hai jis pe jaan lagayi jaye.
if an actor is giving the same performance again and again then that's a testament of the limitation of their skills tbh. there's no conspiracy in place here. no stars have to align in one particular arrangement for them to magically give a different performance especially if they've been active as an actor for many years.
