Steggy the movie.

(That’s kinda what the first avenger is, with the Endgame ending, but hear me out).

Peggy’s living out her life. We see what she’s been up to since Agent Carter. Steve shows up. Chaos ensues, and we get to see how Peggy and Steve get into their same-timeline adventures amidst his retirement and Peggy’s founding of SHIELD. Steve tells Peggy almost everything, but nothing about her future. She knows something is going to go down at SHIELD, and without knowing all of the tactics Hydra used, they do what they can to keep security tight without things completely falling to pieces (because it’s the same timeline-no one can change the future, but that doesn’t mean they won’t do what they can). And that is why Hydra waited so long.

Steve is devastated about Bucky, but understands he made his peace with life. He tries to find him, he really does, but Hydra seems to always skirt their efforts. Even with the information he knows, it’s not enough. But Bucky’s finding peace in the future, and has acknowledged that no one knows where this will go, or if they even can make a new timeline without the time stone involved.

With that knowledge, and knowing he has done all he can (and that everything will work out) he retires. He rests. He dreads Natasha’s upbringing and the Starks’s deaths, but knows it’s coming, and has faith in the future that he helped create. That doesn’t stop him from trying, though, but he’s only one man-and there are oh, so many things he wishes he could change. Nonetheless, he and Peggy settle down, start a family, and become a somewhat domesticated couple. (But only somewhat😉)

Peggy loves Steve. Steve loves Peggy. The future is secure, and while they have neither the information nor resources to fix everything, (not to mention the Steve time loop-so everything always happens) they also practice scarcity in the efforts they do make, for fear that they will change the future to make things worse (or mess up that 1 in a million chance that they beat Thanos).

All is well.

After watching the What If 2 Hydra Stomper episode, I have one thing to say - *sighs, gestures to everything*

Stucky should have been a love story. It's a crime that it wasn't. This ep literally proved what we've been saying - their relationship would be romantic if one of them was a girl.

Even here, Bucky is the one who stares into the gun and tries to talk Steve down while Peggy just jumps him.

It takes a couple words from Bucky to make Steve hesitate and Peggy has to literally monologue at him.

Steggy was cute in TFA but it was barely more than a casual relationship and I need Marvel to let it go. They already ruined Steve's character once because of it, what more do they want? (But then again, if they stop forcing Steve's straight romance down our throats, what is there to stop up from *gasp* imagining him in love with his male friend!)

I think Marvel wanted Steggy to be this love story for the ages that all the fans would root for but... after making three movies about how much his childhood best friend means to him, having Steve stare at a compass of a girl he's known for barely two years a couple times just pales in comparison.

Also, off topic but kind of related, it's honestly laughable that here you have this series all about exploring the possibilities and yet there's not even one queer character.

I can already imagine the seven season “modern family” inspired sitcom with Peggy, her kids and a cardboard of Chris Evans as the protagonists.

Omg I can’t even stop myself from talking about Peggy and her shenanigans for five seconds before Hayley or Marvel come up with something else for her.

Bucky was second in command for the Commandos therefore should've planned strategy with SSR as much as Steve. yet there's zero indication that the SSR personales knew Bucky well enough to even call him by his name??

Peggy has never addressed Bucky directly, even after his death Peggy used 'your friend' in her conversation with Steve. that's, if not avoidance out of jealousy of his relationship with Steve, detachment. there's no personal relationship between Bucky and her. plus Howard Stark calling him 'sergeant Barnes' which literally couldn't have been more impersonal.

the only logical conclusion is that the Commandos never spent time socializing with Peggy and Stark, they probably didn't even meet all that often cuz they were going around Europe fighting Hydra while SSR stayed behind doing their own stuff. Then how can Peggy possibly be the person Steve couldn't get over with, let along have any long lasting impact on him when they've barely spent time together?

popcorn movies are thoughtless and get criticized for this precise reason. the plot doesn't have to be properly developed bc audiences are conditioned to think certain ways and they complete the story in their head for the movie. 'oh that's a classic setup for romance, of course the hero falls in love with her.'

the thing is, it doesn't make sense, and when it doesn't, it shouldn't.

steggy is what happens when you let this thoughtlessness dictates how you percee a trope in a movie.

she never should've been the 'love of my life' for Steve. she simply couldn't have been. THEY BARELY KNEW EACH OTHER ffs.

Recently, I’ve seen a spike in Peggy Stan’s and I decided to reread your thread and I just wanted to like add some more things you might appreciate so the thing about Peggy that a lot of people bring up is thatoh she Sharon’s Aunt so what she is technically doing with Steve is Incest. But it’s not the thing about Peggy she wasn’t originally that important to cap mythos until now when there had been a retcon around 2005 or 2011 that had made Peggy and Sharon aunt and niece when originally Peggy only knew Steve for a few weeks in the comics and I didn’t really date.in comics was Peggy and her were sisters and he had a history with her was largely ignored but instead the mcu made it stronger because a lot of people have acknowledged that retcon around 2005 or 2011 wasn’t the best especially because of Steve’s and Sharon Romantic relationship.

in my own opinion I feel like the MCU should’ve ignored a lot of romance and allowed him to grow in other ways but the thing about Steve is that he has other important relationships that the MCU didn’t allow him to build on due to Peggy his relationship with bucky the avengers and other people who are important to his life due to them, making her such an important character, they erased, love, interest, friendships, and all these other things, and forced him to go back to the past when a large part of his character is learning to move on and appreciate the life that he already has now in the future and a lot people will continue to debate a lot of these things about you shouldn’t ship there are about a few continuities where Bucky is a child and Bucky is not a child when he meets Steve, they’re the same age so I don’t think there’s anything wrong with shipping Stucky as long as Steve hasn’t interacted with Bucky was a child when he was an adult but basically to wrap everything up. I think Peggy should have been included into the MCU because now she’s having a larger part in the comics which is altering a lot of Steve’s relationships and his continuity.

Anon I think you mean 'should not' have been included in the MCU. She's a parasite that's been allowed to take over the whole host and now the host is dying.

They included a Nazi character (Cynthia Glass) in Cap's story... for no better reason than to give him a pussy to aim for, as if that matters... and now not only have they made that character the MC but they've stolen every other Cap's story and given it to her! (Bucky's everything, then Steve's story, made him revolve around her, and her multiverse stuff in What If was originally Samantha Wilson's from the Gwenpool comics, I believe.)

A Nazi is literally now the main character in the Jewish creator's anti-Nazi story. It beggars belief! Jack Kirby must be spinning in his grave!

It's very unfortunate that MCU Steve has always been in the hands of people who think his story would only be tragic if he didn't have pussy at the end of it; that that is the only relationship that should be allowed to matter, even at the expense of, eg. acknowledging his mother's huge impact on his life.

Even worse that that same corporation, which Jack Kirby would've hated on principal as a Jewish man, which doesn't give a shit about artistic integrity, then bought the comics too, and started changing them to match the shoddy film versions (not just with Cap but with other character's franchises too). In adapting a medium they neither know nor cared about they've simultaneously set out to destroy it. 😕

Let’s Ramble About Steggy

Y’all, I’m really missing the emotional journey of Peggy’s in EG: last time we see her, she’s still fragile over his loss (and tbh, I know she let him go, but I can’t imagine she’d ever stopped loving him more than learned to move on, and there’s plenty of evidence to support that). I want to see the moment she completely falls apart. I want to see the shock, the surprise, the gentle way he comes back—and for heaven’s sake, I want to see him go back!!

Rogers: the Musical is my most favorite thing ever, and their reunion is so precious; but when I saw it in person, I was waiting for her to run up and hug him. I know it’s theater and they couldn’t do that with the buildup and the story they were telling; and I love it the way it is. But I do wish we could get an actual, realistic telling of it. …Hey Marvel, I know it’s a tender, private moment, but could you hire Marcus and McFeely back for just a moment to do a six episode series on Steve returning the stones? Ending with what led up to that dance? Please?

(Though honestly, you should probably go read Dancing at Last by @melliabee. Her telling so so precious and tender and loving, and even though she has an apartment instead of a house in this, it’s the most accurate and detail-oriented telling I’ve ever read.)

I really like Peggy, but why is Marvel rewriting her character to be Steve 2.0? Captain Carter wouldn’t have the exact same path Steve does. Furthermore, they’re putting Steve in Bucky’s role (he’s gonna be the WS) and yet it’s more explicitly romantic.

It’s like they’re capitalizing on Stucky while also throwing away everything that made Stucky so wonderful (childhood best friends to lovers, mlm in the forties finding each other in the 2010s where they can be themselves openly)

Again, I love Peggy, but ever since Endgame, they’ve tried to make her either Steve 2 or Steve’s Wife. I wish she didn’t revolve around him.

I think both Steve and Maverick have a lot in common. They’re both living legends. They share the same, disobey-your-superiors-if-it-means-saving-a-teammate tendency (although, I think Steve lacks the cockiness Mav has -as fun as it would be to imagine Steve asking Fury permission to buzz the tower and make him spill his coffee and go all "MOTHERFU-"). They both have lost their best friend in a sad incident (and wonder what they could’ve done to prevent that). And they love to ride their bikes in just a jacket + tight t-shirt and no fucking helmet on.

Also since catfa actually involves Steve disappearing on a plane, I guess you could keep this in your AUs as well; Steve was on a very dangerous mission, sacrificed himself and his plane crashed near the Artic, where they couldn’t find his remains. From there you could have:

Thundershield: an amnesiac Steve is rescued by a nice, Asgardian Norwegian God man who owns the local pub and who nurses him back to health. Once he gets better, he’s called back to Top Gun to lead one last, impossible missio- wait, wrong Tom Cruise franchise. Basically, Thor is Penny Benjamin in this lol.

Steggy: Steve is called back to Top Gun on Fury’s orders and is placed under ADM Peggy “Agent” Carter. Tbh I don’t have many thoughts, just head full of baby-faced!Steve x silver fox!Peggy Carter, because, yes.

Stoward: Omg. Imagine Howard being Steve’s WSO, getting to fly with him and believing he’s the best thing ever (I mean, literally canon). But then on the mission where Steve disappears, he ejects and the thought of leaving Steve behind torments him. ESPECIALLY when Steve turns up  a year later. Anyway, they get to go on one last mission together, so Howard takes a missile meant for Steve, who then swoops in and saves him in return -they make it back to the base, just like in the movie (only gayer because they kiss in front of everyone as Fury’s good eye twitches, but says nothing)

SamSteve/Romanogers/SamSteveNat: Enemies to lovers, Sam and Steve’s aircraft manages to take down two enemy airplanes, except Natasha and Yelena’s. The two end up in an impossible-to-win stand off, somehow manage to shoot each other down simultaneously. Both couples eject and they end up stranded on an island where they are forced to work together to survive. Yelena pretends she doesn’t understand English for a whole week. Anyway, in the end they maybe find out that both their govts wanted to fuck them over, or they wanted to fuck the whole world over so they uncover some big conspiracy. Or say fuck it and end up living on an island only wearing coconut shells for bras (looking at you, Steve). ALSO it’s the perfect setting for a volleyball/football scene.
