Okay but like, what's with fandoms and their recent obsession with "purifying" themselves and the content in them?

It's one thing if a content creator is outed as a pedophile or a racist or a xenophobe.

What I'm talking about is this newfound hatred towards dark fics and dark subject matter in general. It's like people don't understand that it's fiction. Fiction is not reality. Even if the writing is disgusting or amoral, it's not real. And you don't have to read it.

People have been writing weird shit for ages. So how come we only ever see these purity enforcers attacking fic writers or fan artists in fandoms?

Like, in the COD fandom I've seen a bunch of people getting hounded for posting or consuming dark content, I've also gotten a couple messages about it. And, like, hey buddy? Who really cares.

Fiction and reality are two separate things.

Also, why are you attacking me, a 20 year old who lives with their mom and writes for their ten consultant followers and not, oh, I don't know...

Stephen King, who has that whole underage sewer orgy scene in It.

Or the e creators of call of duty for creating literal propaganda. Because, hey besties, yes, that's what COD is. Propaganda. They want you to see it and be like, "yay, guns and the military!" And that's the thing about fiction. It's allowed.

The issue at hand is, in my mind, an issue of deeper reading comprehension or complex thoughts. And a lack of understanding of catharsis.

No one is saying these things are good. But these things exist in the world, like it or not. And in my mind, it's better to portray them in fiction than not at all. Because at least in portraying it awareness can be spread.

And again, if you don't like something, if it triggers you, just don't read it. It's simple. Like if you're watching a movie and can't stand blood so you cover your eyes not to see. You aren't going to go after the director are you? No. You're going to take steps to protect yourself against content you don't want to see or consume.

I think it's an issue of separating fan works from "real" works. Those who say fan art isn't real art or fanfiction isn't real writing. So perhaps in those people's minds, fan works, not being "real" means that they shouldn't portray things we see in reality.

All this to say here's a non-definitive list of novels with dark/disturbing content that these people would want to oppose:

The Road by Cormac McCarthy: People keeping other people for food, people keeping women as breeding stock (at the hands of bandits in a post-apocalyptic world)

Flowers in the Attic by V. C. Andrews: child neglect, child abuse, forced isolation, incest, rape

1984 by George Orwell: totalitarianism, government surveillance, insignificance and weakness of the individual

The Stand by Stephen King: sex, rape, ableism, abuse of handicapped people, violence and killing

Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh: mental illness, drug use/addiction, infant death

American Psycho by Brett Easton Ellis: violence, gore, rape, murder, torture, misogyny, sadism

A lot of these books, though considered scary and disturbing and gross, are also seen as classics.

It's not the fault of the author or the media they create, but that of the consumer.

You can find it icky and gross after reading or watching such things. Most of the time you're supposed to. That's a good thing, it means you're human. These things make you think and feel and emphasize.

To control what can and cannot be written is censorship. To control how certain things are portrayed is censorship.

Be aware of the media that's out there, because these disturbing things are real issues out there. And if you can't stomach it, don't consume it.

like the homie krankittoeleven, i pretty much only use angst as a plot device - there are only happy/hopeful endings in this household lmao - but if i consider context, the fic with the angstiest ending is probably Honorfall (zutara, rated E). maybe Of All the Things My Hands Have Held (zutaraang, rated M)..?

7. What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

lots of my fics have happy endings ;))))) as for the happiest... ahh, probably If It Means a Lot to You (zukaang, rated M) and Flowers Never Pick Themselves (zutaraang, rated M).

er, yes and no? i feel like hate is a strong word. it's more so that there are some readers who have simply ~disliked~ certain premises of mine, which, y'know, is what it is! click away or write your own shit! ♥

the good kind, baby, and absolutely nothing less. if it doesn't make me wet, i don't post it!

i used to! especially with and amongst irl friends. if there was a fandom i/we were into, there was a harry potter crossover in our shared docs to go with it LOL.

an entire fic? no, not to my knowledge anyway. but i've definitely had some scenes and dialogue grabbed and scattered across the web over the years.

mmm. this is a bit hard for me to answer because i feel like i could use improvement everywhere, always. i could probably use some more work in my dialogue though (just having more of it, i think). with conflict resolution as well - circling back to angst, i usually gloss over it because i want [my] characters to have nothing but good times and good endings. i need to be less wary of putting them through some shit, which i am working on!

anywayyy. my biggest strength is my prose!

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

up for debate, but personally my weakness is outlines. i try to use them but my brain does not like having "rules" when it comes to creating a story, even if i am the one to write them ;;

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in a fic?

i'm a native (american) english speaker, so this question feels.. odd? bc ~american~? but as a native english speaker, i absolutely don't mind at all. i love languages and i love letting them into my brain! i myself use words from different languages, especially in what i'm writing is based in another country/place of origin.

Some people would recommend the works of S. Connolly, but I personally find that person a bit too quixotic when it comes to demons. They are good for ideas, but following everything in them could prove...risky.

Demons are not friendly spirits or deities. They are not nice or benevolent just to be kind. They want something, even if that something is to seduce you to join the dark delights of Hell. Or offerings you may give them.

.

I realize this can seem a bit scary at first glance. And perhaps I do go a bit deep into the Darker aspects of Demon and Demonology.

But keep in mind that Demons are not your enemies. They are your Allies and Friends.

At least that is what you hope to achieve.

Hell can seem like a bad place to those who are not at home with Darkness, Wickedness, Cruelty, and Suffering.

But those who have known these things, who accept them, will find it a very nice and inviting home.

Working with Demons are not for the squeamish. It’s not some fashion fad to follow and then discard. And it’s not for those who cannot take it seriously and do the work you need to do.

But do it right, and you can have all the Wealth, Wisdom, Secrets, and Power in the world laid at your feet.

And in the end, you will find out if you are one of the few whom will find a Home in Hell... or if it’s simply not for you.

Day 8: “Evermore”

Sinister Strange x Reader

I’m so sorry that I’ve fallen behind. 😭 I tried to write Day 7 but it just kept turning to shit and making me depressed do imma just skip it. So here’s this, ⚠️TRIGGER WARNING⚠️ mentions of implied suicide and death and character death. Don’t like, don’t read. Also this was inspired by @sanctumsanctorumshenanigans one shot “Just flowers”, this is for you, bae!

When you had fallen into his dying universe Stephen had thought that he'd finally snapped after being alone with the Darkhold for who knows how long. With powers akin to the spring goddess, Persephone, he could hardly be blamed for doubting your tangibility.

Yet here you were, your ivy and morning glories coating the outside of the Sanctum, a garden where the dead used to lie, a crown of thorns sprouting around your head whenever you both inevitably fought over petty matters. Silk-soft rose petals exploding around you when he kissed you and made love to you.

He should have known that his newfound Eden couldn't last forever, though.

As time moved inexorably on, your garden began to be less fruitful, your morning glories’ blooms not lasting as long and not quite as numerous as before, the crown of thorns took more and more emotion to appear, and the rose petals dwindled down in number until he could only cause one or two to appear, and they were small and half wilted. What was even worse was you because depressed and listless.

No spell helped you, no potion, nor enchantment.

You were dying along with his universe, and Stephen had no idea how to stop it.

One day you came into Stephen's study where he was desperately researching any way to help you.

"Mon prince noir,” you called to him softly as you leaned against the doorframe, having used all your energy to find him.

Looking up, Stephen was immediately alarmed by how horrifically pale and sickly your appearance was.

"Ma fleur," he chided in a gentle croon. "You should be resting.”

Scooping you up in his arms, Stephen carried you over to the couch and settled in to cuddle you.

“I was cold,” you confessed as you happily nuzzled into the collar of his dark robes. "And... I think I know what's wrong with me. Why my powers aren't working anymore.”

Pulling back so he could see your eyes, which thanks to your powers, were an almost unrealistic glass green.

Cupping your cheeks with his shaking, scared hands, Stephen pleaded, "Tell me, ma fluer, please. I'm at my wits end.”

"The sun,” you whispered as you lay your hands over his. " My powers depend on the sun. It's not just the vitamin D. It's the warmth, the ultra-violet radiation. Your world doesn't have a sun, or even starlight, mon prince des ténèbres. That's why I'm fading. I. I need to go back to my world if I am to thrive, beloved."

Stephen's heart disintegrated at those words. He had been fearing this line of logic. He couldn't lose you, his healer, his flower. But he would never allow his selfishness to kill you, no matter how much he wanted to keep you by his side.

"Then to your world you shall return,” he vowed, pressing a kiss to your forehead.

…

Within a few weeks, Stephen had figured out a way to send you back.

Holding you close, the two of you said your goodbyes.

"I love you, so so much, Stephen,” you whispered as you tried to hide your tears in his shoulder.

"I love you too, Y/N," he murmured into your hair, taking in every last detail he could.

Pulling away you gave the sorcerer a teary-eyed smile before stepping into the circle that would take you home.

Beginning the ritual, Stephen took one last look at you before summoning every last scrap of magic he possessed and shoved it into a portal that would bring you back to life... and him to death.

He had ensured that you had no clue that he planned to be the magic battery that the portal would use to return you. Otherwise, you would never allow it.

Stephen couldn't let your death be on his already blood-soaked hands when he could so easily prevent it.

In an almighty maelstrom of red and purple light you fell through a portal onto a grassy, sun-soaked field.

And flowers of infinite variety burst into bloom around you, color returned to your skin, and you looked more alive than when Stephen had first met you, a wreath of nightshade in your hair and a staff of oak in your hand.

That was the last view Stephen had of you, and he could have wept with joy. You were going to be okay. He collapsed as darkness danced along the edge of his vision.

You were going to live your days in the sun, was the last thought in his mind before the darkness took him.
