January 26th's Film-a-day was the 1996 movie "Trees Lounge."
This was Steve Buscemi's directoral debut. He also wrote the script. This movie is about an alcoholic who was fired from his job as an auto mechanic and hangs out at the dive bar called Trees Lounge, of which he also lives in the apartment above. This movie was shot at a bar in NYC called Trees Lounge. Someday I'll go there and check it out.
This was a good movie. I love Steve Buscemi, he is a versatile actor and a good person. Before becoming an actor, he was a NYC firefighter and when 9/11 happened, he volunteered and did multiple 12-hour shifts to help people.
Eszter Balint is also in this film, she plays another barfly's estranged wife. Initially I thought of putting together a collage of photos of the 2 times I've seen Ms. Balint perform her music at a dive bar in Brooklyn, but I also wanted to just visit a local dive. I invited my husband to accompany me at the closest dive to our home, but since he has a work meeting at our local VFW coming up, he suggested we go there and get memberships. So that's what we did. And we learned the difference between VFWs and American Legions. Though neither of us were soldiers overseas, we can still be social members since we're township residents. I don't go to bars often but at least it's small and quiet and close by, so if I want to have a drink I can go there once our memberships are approved.

New Yorkers and fans worldwide were shaken by the recent news of actor Steve Buscemi being assaulted in broad daylight while walking through Manhattan's Kips Bay neighborhood. This incident adds to a growing concern about random acts of violence targeting celebrities and civilians alike in the city. Steve Buscemi A Targeted Attack or Random Violence? Details surrounding the assault remain unclear. While the exact cause and motive are still under investigation, Buscemi's publicist confirmed the attack was "random." This characterization aligns with a disturbing trend of seemingly unprovoked attacks on public figures in New York City. In March 2024, Michael Stuhlbarg, Buscemi's co-star in the hit HBO series "Boardwalk Empire," was struck in the back of the neck with a rock. Similarly, actor Rick Moranis and reality TV star Bethenny Frankel have also been victims of random attacks in recent years. The NYPD is actively investigating the attack on Buscemi and is currently searching for a suspect described as a bearded man wearing a baseball cap, a blue T-shirt, and black sweatpants. A City on Edge: Rising Concerns About Public Safety This latest incident reignites concerns about public safety in New York City. While the full picture regarding Buscemi's assault is still emerging, the seemingly random nature of the attack has left many feeling uneasy. New York City has long been known for its vibrant energy and diverse communities. However, a recent rise in violent crime has cast a shadow over the city's reputation. Residents and visitors alike are understandably concerned about their safety while navigating the city streets. Buscemi's attack has sparked renewed discussions about potential solutions to address the issue of random violence in New York City. These discussions may involve increased police presence, improved mental health resources, and community outreach programs. A Beloved Figure Targeted: Steve Buscemi's Legacy and Community Involvement The assault on Steve Buscemi is particularly unsettling due to his long-standing connection to New York City and his history of public service. A Brooklyn native, Buscemi is a cherished figure in the city, widely recognized for his extensive acting career and his dedication to the community. Beyond his acclaimed performances in films like "Fargo" and "Reservoir Dogs," Buscemi is also known for his courageous service as a New York City firefighter. He famously volunteered with his former fire company, Engine 55, in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Buscemi's dedication to New York and his history of helping others make this attack even more shocking. The outpouring of concern and support from fans and colleagues following the incident reflects the deep respect Buscemi holds within the city. Looking Forward: Recovery, Investigation, and Community Action While the physical and emotional effects of the attack on Steve Buscemi are still unfolding, it is clear that this incident has deeply impacted the actor and the wider New York City community. The ongoing investigation by the NYPD offers hope that the perpetrator will be apprehended and brought to justice. Furthermore, the renewed dialogue about public safety in the city can catalyze positive change. By working together, New York City can strive to create a safer and more secure environment for all residents and visitors, honoring the spirit of resilience and community that the city has always embodied.

How do we get Adam Sandler, Brendan Fraser, & Steve Buscemi to make an Airheads 2 where the plot is they break into Spotify to get paid for streaming when they learn that thanks to Nostalgia or social media, "Degerated" has become a hit again?
Does Sandler still have his Netflix deal?
Someone, call Hollywood about this and get it done!

Steve Buscemi
A surprising fact about Steve Buscemi
He was part of Engine Company No. 55.
Before the Pulp Fiction actor was a household name, Steve Buscemi worked as an NYC firefighter in Little Italy from 1980 through 1984. He made his acting debut the following year. Buscemi would return to his old firehouse the day after 9/11 to assist the FDNY at ground zero, digging through rubble for 12-hour days in search of missing firefighters.
