IITMF ask; Does anybody know of any fics where after the sunshot campaign, they go to the death row Wen cultivators and give them the option of giving up their cultivation and leaving as a free but mortal person or death/labor camps until they die/basically whatever they did to the wens in cannon. As a way to fix some of the damage done by when Zhuliu(*cough cough* or just WWX *cough cough*). Does something similar to that exist? Like I'm not asking for anything where this is the main focus, this could be a minor mention/plot point. But does anyone know anything like it?

Kay's comments: Honestly, if you haven't heard of this fic yet, then you've probably lived under a rock this past year, haven't you? It's definitely The Fic™ and has been for a while now and it's already been recommended a few times by followers already, but I need to give it a personal shout-out as well, because I adore this story. It's living rent-free in my brain and despite already having more than 600k words, I re-read it like every other month and never get tired of it. One of the highlights is definitely TomatenMark's incredible attention to detail. Something will get mentioned once in chapter five and ten chapters later it'll suddenly be a major plot point. I also really adore the numerous characters TomatenMark has added to the story, they are all working so beautifully in the story and I find myself caring for them very much! As for the plot, it's basically a Cloud Recesses canon-divergence where WangXian get together and get married during the lectures and it kickstarts a canon-divergence that looks much better than the original timeline while also staying true to the characters and not sugarcoating things. If you haven't already, you should definitely check this story out! Excerpt: “I regard Lan Zhan highly,” he tried to reassure and Lan Xichen interestedly hummed, prompting him to add, “If I ever make him unhappy in some way I’d be the first to beat myself up over it.” Lan Xichen nodded and twinkled at him but Wei Wuxian didn’t dare to relax. “You seem to be quite dedicated,” the other noted. “And Wangji seems to return the sentiment given how he returned without any protection from the storm when I was quite sure I had seen him leave with his coat that afternoon.” “Ah. Er, yeah, Lan Zhan was so kind as to lend it to me when it started to rain,” Wei Wuxian explained, feeling on edge from the other’s roundabout way of hinting at something Wei Wuxian wasn’t sure he was even knowingly hinting at. “However, I have noticed that your neck was quite bruised when you returned, Wei-gongzi,” Lan Xichen went on. Wei Wuxian’s head snapped up from where he had held it politely lowered before. Lan Xichen’s eyes were overflowing with mirth. He definitely knew what he was hinting at!! “I hope you two didn’t get into a fight?” the Lan sect heir innocently mused and Wei Wuxian felt his resolve break. “Zewu-jun, please don’t torture me like this,” he begged.

Hazel had met soldier, once. A man who'd come home to her little town, missing half his leg and most of his mind. The look in his eyes was hauntingly similar to what she saw on her cousin's face.

Percy was different now. Stronger, maybe. He'd made it through Hell, but not without leaving a piece of him behind.

I honestly didn't know if I'd like this one when I started lol but I loved it. The ANGST WAS SO HEAVY AND SO GOOD. tw for annabeth not making it out of tarturus alive in this fic. PJO and Marvel/Shield mash up and honestly I'm just so down for badass Percy fics. Especially when we see him from another POV where he looks so scary but in his head he is the softest most traumatized boy. Percy is everything to me. Lol and I ship percabeth so hard so this was an outlier fic to me 😂 the blurb there is from the first story, I linked the whole series.

My username came from my ao3 username - decembercamie. 'December' is my favorite time of the year and my birth month, 'camie' is supposed to stand for the camellia flower somehow lol. When I made my tumblr account I made it with decembercamie as my username buuuuuut I accidentally forgot my password so I had to make a new account with a new username. I like cherries so that's literally the only reason why I chose to add 'cherries' onto my ao3 username for my tumblr username.

For your first question, I wasn't sure if you were asking about my fav fics that I've written or fav fics that I've read? I went with fav fics I've read but if you meant something else just send me another ask!

Here's my current favorite top-ten fics I've read in no particular order:

Atlas (star trek, spirk) - a re-imagined what if au about what would happen after the events of the first movie and it features genius!Kirk which I absolutely love. I reread this at least once a year.

2. Miracle Child (Homestuck, gamkar) - also a what if au about what might have happened if the characters completed the game earlier and reset both the troll and human universes. It's set only in the troll universe, though. I came for the gamkar but I stayed for the awesome world building and incredible OCs. I also reread this one at least once a year.

3. A Heavy Heart (Homestuck, gamkar) - a bit of a reversed hemospectrum au mashed with a royalty au. I love this author in general for their gamkar but this fic of theirs has all my fav tropes.

4. from the rivers of our palms (x-men first class, cherik) - I'm pretty sure this fic is what inspired me to write my own hxh daemon au series because this is the best daemon au fic I've found and it inspires me every time I reread it. The cherik in this is excellent and I loved their daemons' personalities too.

5. from stardust to stars (hxh, killugon) - all of xyliane's fics are absolute perfection but this fic is the first of theirs I read and it still makes me cry to this day. The world building is really interesting, I wish I could read another couple thousand words more about it. It also inspired me to write my hxh alice in wonderland fic out of order, as this is the only other story I've read that is told like that.

6. 108 degrees (hxh, killugon) - I have a lot of fav hxh killugon fics but this one is just really fun to read. It's not that deep, it's basically a short one shot of aged up!killugon getting together on a really hot day, but god damn does it make me happy.

7. All Things Belong (mdzs, wwx + the Wens, wangxian) - this fic features Wei Wuxian receiving all the love, pampering and recognition he deserves from the most powerful cultivation family and I love that for him. The Wens are fleshed out characters in this and I love how they all fall in love with Wei Wuxian while remaining a threat to everyone else involved. Even if this fic is never completed I will adore it to the end of time.

8. Starved Stunted Juvenility (mdzs, wangxian) - what if au in which wangxian get together during their Cloud Recesses days. This fic has everyone in character, everyone falling in love with and being protective over and spoiling Wei Wuxian, incredible action scenes, a seriously well thought-out plot and world building, wonderful OCs AND it is still being regularly updated despite being over 750k WORDS LONG. I would worship the ground this author walks on if I could because oh my god.

9. Rule Number One: Don't Get Attached (mdzs, wangxian) - all of my favorite tropes and aus mashed into one fic, featuring badass/genius!Wei Wuxian and dark!Lan Wangji. This author is also just an excellent wangxian writer, I've really enjoyed all their stuff but this fic of theirs in particular is so my type that it's kind of insane lol.

10. the kind that lasts forever (tgcf, hualian) - I read this fic back when I still hadn't finished tgcf yet because it is a modern au so I wouldn't be too spoiled, and I liked it so much that I chased it down again to reread it, and then searched for it AGAIN just to bookmark it. It is hysterical. I legit laughed out loud several times even when re-reading it a second and third time.

Favourite fics of 2023

Now that the year is over, I figured I'd cast my eye back over the previous year to see what were my favourite fics I discovered that year. Notably, they may not have been published last year--just the ones that I read during that time period.

I have absolutely no idea what they will be, so I'm curious to dive into my bookmarks...

MDZS/CQL

Stunted, Starving Juvenility by TomatenMark -- oooh, apparently it was last year that I consumed this. It's a behemoth of a story at over 700k words; it's a slowly sprawling tale, and I read and reread it during the same year. And it's been one of the rare WIPs that I have been following faithfully. It's an AU in which WWX and LWJ, early on during the Gusu lectures, have the extra-canonical chapters' dreams about each other (that's to say, the ravishing in the library and the peaceful domesticity) and this triggers them realizing their feelings, which in turn changes rather a lot of things. This sounds underwhelming, but the fic really is very good and rather epic in scope! I have appreciated how it depicts WWX--intensely intelligent, precocious, but in need of guidance; and he and LWJ are darling together. I only hope it keeps being this good for the next 700k words or however much it takes!

You'll See Me Again by anon -- oh man, I loved this one. It's sadly a short-ish WIP (12k> words), but the concept is brilliant: it's NHS, who's time-travelled back and is determined to fix everything by getting WWX as his younger brother, and it's told from NMJ's baffled point of view. It's very good! I just wish it were longer.

Mourning Dove by jaemyun - a WIP featuring a dark LWJ who's very fed up with the hypocrisy of the cultivation world. Hasn't updated in a while, though...

This was the year I read SVSSS! Boy, did I ever love it. This naturally unlocked a new fandom for me, so here are some of my favourite fics:

A Transmigrator and a Time Traveler Walk Into the Bamboo House by VeryCharismaticDragon - this is super lovely! This is Binghe who time-travels from after SQQ's self-destruction to the start of the story. And he's determined to change things, even as he's trying to understand them. The whole thing is great.

The More You Don't Know by Neery - this is sweet and angsty in just the right way. Binghe is convinced SQQ only loves him because he doesn't realize he's a demon, and does his best to hide. (There's also a canon divergence in there.)

The Peace Between Divine Pec- ah-hm sorry - uh…Peaks by AceOfDivineChlorophyll - I need to catch up with the latest chapters of this, but I have it bookmarked as "absolutely love it, mega oblivious SQQ thinks he's LBH's advisor and not realizing that he's effectively the empress (something everyone around him sees) and of course not realizing also that he's super in love with LBH."

Born of Fire (We Shall Not Fall) by TheDefenestrator - I loved this fic so much. So much. It's my favourite take on omegaverse I've ever seen in any fic, ever. It's got a super lovely Ye Xiu/Han Wenqing slowburn and Ye Xiu joining Tyranny, but it's also set in this universe which brings this omegaverse context into everything and makes it extra delicious. It's so well done. I just hope it updates one day.

Bond/Q

a bloodless coup by Ark - scorchingly hot, great characterisations, very well done.

The fury deserts her with alarming swiftness once she’s out in the world again.

Oh, it had powered a fairly spectacular show back at the precinct. Without raising her voice, she’s certain she rattled the glass in Montgomery’s fish-bowl office just about hard enough to dissuade even Javier “Shark-Week Enthusiast” Esposito from pressing his nose up to it. And she’s pretty sure that the deadly stage whisper that sent Richard “Research Enthusiast" Castle scampering backward down the precinct’s darkest hallway actually rattled the decaying acoustic tiles in the ceiling hard enough to get a few faux snow drifts going back there.

Even after she’d chased her new shadow back to Neverland, however temporarily, she’d continued to vibrate on such a high, fury-fueled frequency that a blast radius had opened up. After a brief flurry of hushed warnings traveled around the bullpen, a blessed peace born of abject fear had fallen. She’d gotten a nearly unprecedented—even for her—amount of work done.

But it’s gone now, that fury that had served her like a faithful friend, all day long. She’d like to blame the bitter March wind for that. Or the fact that she’s starving and the smell of food trucks and over-eager restaurants with their silver forest of patio heaters have shivering servers weaving in and out of cafe tables with trays of mouth-watering entrees has drawn her attention to more pressing needs.

But it has nothing to do with the chill or hunger. The fury is absolutely gone and inside, she is all hollow places and unpleasant echoes. No. Worse than unpleasant. Uncomfortable. He—Richard “Never a Scout” Castle—has somehow left her, Kate “Tough, but Savvy” Beckett feeling . . . uncomfortable.

Not in the way she’s sure he’d like to. Not like that at all.

Whatever this unsettled feeling is all about, it has nothing to do with his transparent, junior-high lechery. She is entirely safe from his waggling eyebrows and talk of safe words and spanking, because it may have been a while (and—Lord—has it been a while), but he truly has no idea.

It’s not even the fact that his stunt with the advanced copy, with the swift, awkward kiss that oh-so-carefully just missed the corner of her mouth, has her cheeks glowing pink again even out here on the street in the predictably seasonable chill of an early spring evening in New York. Her insides flutter at the memory even as her eyes roll in self-disgust, but Teen Beat feelings about a dizzying series of unexpected encounters with her one-time celebrity crush isn’t what has her stilettos meeting the pavement with a force she’ll likely regret long before she makes it home.

The uneasy feeling he’s left her with is not at all personal. Well. Okay. Between her and the lamppost, it’s not entirely personal. It’s all too professional.

Why are you here?

The question she’d hurled at him over his hazardous fan mail comes sailing back at her in appropriately juvenile I’m rubber, and you’re glue fashion. He’s left her wondering. Not with his bullshit cold read about the socially acceptable options available to a good-looking, moneyed woman such as herself, but with his childlike faith in The Story.

She hears herself scoffing at him about serial killers and psychopaths sans motive, about guilty guys standing over bodies with guns. She hears the desperation, the defensiveness in her own voice as she insists that somebody had to know something about Alison Tisdale, as she insists there was never a reason to interview the woman’s brother. Worst of all, maybe, she hears herself delivering her trademark speech about the weird ones and the revelations—the insights into the dark crevices of the human psyche—they alone can offer. She hears it all and wonders if any of it is, was, ever has been true.

Because she knows full well there are victims that no one, least of all her, ever knows anything about.

She knows full well that a year ago—or has it been two or three?—she wouldn’t have needed a reason to interview a victim’s father, her brother beyond compassion, beyond the meager comfort that the full force of her assurance that they’d get the person who’d done this to their loved one might provide.

She knows full well, or she did once, that every victim’s life is filled with stories that intersect and diverge, that obscure and shed light.

She knows full well that the freaky ones weren’t always a draw for their Saturday-crossword-level demands on her intellect. They weren’t always. But are they now?

Why are you here?

She has always known the answer to that question. Always. And now he’s left her with the uncomfortable feeling she might not know any more. She might not know at all.

Favorite Books: Ok, so here’s the thing. To Kill a Mockingbird is probably my all time fav that I had to read, but actually really enjoyed. (The ‘sequel’ does not exist.) But I mostly follow writers (unless I kick them off the island). So, I’ll say that I will read anything by Shelly Laurenston (love her crazy bitches) and anything written in the Honorverse by David Weber (I love epic space operas).

Last fanfic I read and loved: Okay, ok, ok, ok. There are so many, like really. OMFG this fandom is so amazing I’ve downloaded by favs, made a cover, and put them in my tablet and phone and have backups. Preciousssss.

So, for May, my goal was to read as many of my ‘marked for later’ and leave comments especially if they are wips regardless of last update. And I have and my heart breaks because there are some really, really good stories out there that are forever wips. ૮╥﹏╥ა

Instead, let me list some of my fav rereads (in no particular order):

Fanfic tropes/ships/kinks I never thought I would like, until this one fanfic came along and made me see the light: Omegaverse and mpreg. I still look askew at this trope but there were some talented writers that had me hooked and now it’s no longer in my ‘nope’ list. (This might be a MXTX thing and may not travel to other fandoms, tho.)

WIPs: Weeeellll. The bunnies are alive. I have a Scrivener opened and organized. Words have been written. Fuck. I have an idea that spawned a multiverse, but...I don’t know, man. I don’t know. U(⁎˃ᆺ˂)U

Current obsession: MDZS has been my obsession for a while now. I don’t see it dying anytime soon.

Fictional character I would marry: Nie Huaisang. Look, I get it. Lan Xichen is beautiful and kind and sweet and would make a fine husband. But SangSang will set the world on fire for those he loves and I’ll happily gather tinder and watch it burn with him. Also, he has a great porn collection.

My favorite Fandom Tumblr blog: @wangxianficfinder {´◕ ◡ ◕｀} They do the Dark Lord’s service and I’m am grateful. But really, I have found so many great fics because of them.
