How lucky I am, to be able to buy flour and make bread for my family. How lucky I am, to buy my little sister new shoes for Christmas and help my mom pay medical bills.

If you don't know by now, Siraj Abudayeh is a writer and journalist from Gaza. He is currently fundraising to survive through the genocide. He has a dream of rebuilding his home - this is his resistance against the settler state because he refuses to let the colonizers take over the city, the home, he so loves. Siraj and his family need to live through this difficult time. Everyday is a struggle where his family has to put in herculean efforts to acquire even the basic items of life. No one, who is from outside of Gaza can know how truly hellish these ten months have been. To provide you with just a glimpse of this hell, Siraj has asked me to share this message with you:

"Everyday, my children have to stand in a line to get 10 loaves of bread. You also have young girls, pregnant women, and the elderly. . . They all wait to purchase for their families, but the bakery is a wrestling ring! We quarrel with each other, scream until our throat hurts, and faint from the blazing heat! And the queue does not move while all of this is happening. . . Not even a prayer will save you from this misery!

For 3 straight hours, Muhammad, Siraj’s son, stood, counting on his fingers how many people will it be until it is his turn to receive the bread and return to his family. His turn has finally arrived.

Suddenly, an ear piercing sound slices through the the air!! It is heavier than an exploding F-16 missile: Children fled in fear, the bakery was hastily closed and Muhammad returned with a heavy burden of an empty stomach."

the ceasefire was supposed to begin about an hour ago as of writing, but the israeli army has admitted to its continued bombing of the gaza strip, violating its own agreement. netanyahu claims he cannot honor the ceasefire until hamas hands over a list of names of settler hostages to be handed over first; hamas blames this on technical issues.

my friend and gazan journalist siraj abudayeh @siraj2024 (#219) tells me there is shooting along the border between gaza and '48, both in the north and south of gaza. he is also, despite everything, cautiously optimistic that things will settle themselves out soon and the ceasefire can properly begin. here's the message he sent me on the matter (before we got the notification that the ceasefire had been violated):

The ceasefire entered into force in the Gaza Strip after agreements were reached between the Palestinian factions and the Israeli occupation, which gave an opportunity to calm the military situation that had led to the death and injury of thousands of civilians and the widespread destruction of infrastructure. But despite this temporary cessation of fighting, the humanitarian need in Gaza remains dire and persistent. The temporary ceasefire came after months of military escalation, during which civilian areas in Gaza were the target of air and artillery attacks, resulting in the destruction of homes, hospitals and schools. Although the fighting has stopped, Siraj's family still needs significant humanitarian support. Siraj's family is still displaced and suffers from a severe shortage of basic materials such as food, medicine, and clean water. The next phase requires support to mitigate the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

there's still a strong chance that aid will be let into gaza in the coming days, and the process of rebuilding gaza will begin - whether under israeli fire or not. after gaza has has everything stolen. i ask that whoever sees this reblogs or donates to siraj's campaign. he has lost friends, family and colleagues, gofundme has deleted his survival campaign twice, and he's lost his livelihood over the course of this genocide, funded by america. we don't know what is coming next, but we know that these facts cannot change. what matters most right now is getting aid to people who need them.

Siraj @siraj2024 and his wife and children are currently homeless following the destruction of their home by the occupation. They have been repeatedly displaced since then, and are currently living in a makeshift tent in the streets of north Gaza with dozens, if not hundreds, of other families. Due to the deliberate sabotage of Gaza’s water and waste management infrastructure by the IOF, the streets of Gaza are now a breeding ground for extremely dangerous bacteria and viruses, including gangrene, cholera, and polio. Siraj and his family are living in near-total exposure to the elements, deprived of food and water, and threatened by biological hazards. This is not a life anyone should be expected to live.

Siraj is collecting funds to rebuild his family’s home, but due to the loss of his job at the hands of the occupation, he and his family currently have no income. This means Siraj and his family will have no means to rebuild their home even after the occupation leaves, and will be condemned to life on the street indefinitely.

Hey everyone, recently I've been in contact with @siraj2024, who's family has been forced to relocate 6 times since their home was destroyed at the beginning of this violent occupation, and their current tent has little to sustain them. His 3 young children have had their childhoods stolen from them, spend their days hauling water over long distances & maintaining the tent to guard against sickness & disease. Even then, what ever water they might manage to obtain is likely to be polluted with disease, just another danger amidst the ongoing danger and death that has become inescapable in Palestine. Ever since the genocide started in October last year, Siraj ( @siraj2024 ) and his family of 5 (his wife and 3 children) have been displaced 6 times and they now live in a cramped tent without basic necessities like food and water, in unhygenic conditions. In his words:

At the beginning of the ground war on the Gaza Strip, our area was engulfed in fire and random shelling, which led to our beloved home being hit and destroyed. After that, we were forced to move six times, seeking refuge in places unfit for living, where we faced constant threats, evacuation orders, and danger both day and night.

Today, we find ourselves living in a poor tent on the street, surrounded by others in similar conditions. These tents lack the basic necessities of life, and epidemics and infectious diseases are widespread.

My children have lost their childhoods among these makeshift shelters. They don’t know how to play or learn. Instead, they help with hard tasks like fetching drinking water from long distances, cleaning around the tent, and much more. They deserve better.

Siraj has one simple dream: to return to his life before the genocide, to rebuild his home, to educate his children and to provide them with safety and stability.
