finally got around to starting “worlds beyond number” and i am having the time of my life

i’ve nearly cried at least three times and have laughed countless times

it’s fun and silly and dark and ominous, and the sheer joy that brennan, aabria, erika, and lou are clearly experiencing comes through so vividly, even though i can’t see their faces

they’re having a great time and so am i

Worlds Beyond Number is wild because Brennan Lee Mulligan uses every ounce of his philosophic and empathetic learnings to create the most heartrending situations and scenes

Then, like an emotional devastation katamari, this fucker picks up THREE whole ass other people like him. Lou Wilson, who will make you cry while you’re in the middle of laughing. Aabria Iyengar, who is a fucking genius and dives full ass into her character’s flaws because your heart will die of a thousand cuts when it all hits. And Erika Ishii. At first blush, a bit of a clown, albeit a sultry one when they want to be. More than happy to play the fool. Lets you underestimate them, so you let them get close, and when you realize how deep you’re in it’s too late

So these FOUR chucklefucks, these four geniuses of humor and tragedy, hire a fucking Maestro of Sound Design in Taylor Moore to produce their home game. And everything is tighter. And even more immersive. And heartwrenching and hilarious and cozy and creepy.

Anyway, this team of FIVE people decide that they’re going to make one of the best podcasts currently airing and it’s only nine episodes in.

Listening to Worlds Beyond Number - Suvi ruining me as this child thrust out of innocence by war and violence, reunited with childhood friends and they can't seem to grasp how she has changed. The young girl who spent hours chasing a magical chicken, kneels down in the dark and the storm to slit a woman's throat.

Watching The Ravening War as Karna, my beloved chili pepper, gets caught up on war as the inheritor of a spymaster's legacy. She is still a child, who in her own words is used to being treated as dispensable. Why was she not allowed to live as a child? Will she be made a hero and a martyr, or a symbol of resistance - will they forget that she was just a kid.

I can't help but think of Murphy from Naddpod (C1e97).

But one of them, to the right, could almost be described as family. A woman who is as close as your mother has to a sister.

She's so pretty, even stressed and in this weird orange glow. She's got long, just incredibly shiny auburn hair and sort of ruddy freckled features and pale skin but she's sort of glowing in this room that's so dangerous and hot and wrong but she looks like she's in her element.

Okay so I am so late, but episode 17, “say my name” made me lose my mind. In past episodes it’s mentioned how Steel took Suvi in and raised her, but I feel like this is the first time we see it.

Before the moment after Suvi’s naming ceremony Steel has had such negative stern energy in the past episodes, but when she is joking with suvi after???? And then when Steel says “if anyone ever had to do anything, I had to be your mother”????????? Foaming at the mouth, going insane over it.

Something something Suvi loves Eursulon and Ame with every piece of her. Even the pieces that shouldn’t and something about how each time she breaks off another piece for them it drives her to her knees and against the wall but she won’t stop and something about how if this is her love there will be nothing of her left and she can’t say she’d regret it
