Just some of my favorite sincere lines from the crew
When Fang tells Lucius that no one has taken an interest in his form before and he replies by saying “Then you’ve never met anyone worth a damn”
When Oluwande repeats “La vida es dolor” in that voice after he tells Nana that Jim is gone
Frenchie telling Stede that “In my experience, these things are meant to make you feel like a bit of a jackass” quickly followed by how seriously he asks Ed, “What’d they do to you man”
Black Pete absolutely glowing post-kiss and saying “There’s a lot you don’t know about me” with that little head wobble
Every single thing that happens in the scene where they make Oluwande Captain, but most particularly when the Swede says so seriously and sweetly - “It’s you”

Okay so it's a long-standing tradition in Wales to carve swedes (the vegetable) instead of pumpkins at Halloween.
But the erroneous capitalisation here makes it seem like we've been cheerfully torturing our Swedish visitors for display 😭

Swede is such an interesting character! In season 1, Swede didn’t know about scurvy, or that “the teeth don’t go back in.” He didn’t seem that well-educated to me, and I assumed that he came from a working class background.
But here are some of his lines in the middle of 2.1:
My time with Jackie has been the happiest of my life. Her love has helped me locate parts of myself I didn’t even know existed, and reclaim others that I had long missed. But, I owe you a life debt, and I am bound to honor it.
And
Yes indeed. Tonight is my turn to perform the husbandly duties.
He uses more formal speech patterns and vocabulary here, which suggest that he has received some education or comes from a higher social class.
But then later in the episode, he speaks more informally again:
I can’t believe you guys robbed Jackie. Wow. So bad.
And
Yeah, let’s get outta here.
Probably the Doylist explanation for these differences in speech formality is that it’s funny. But I think it could raise some interesting questions about his background.
Is he from a higher class and intentionally trying to hide that?
Is he from a higher social class but wound up living on the margins due to some kind of neurodivergence or other disability?
What are your thoughts?
