I did actually write a fic dedicated to if the Wittebanes were historically accurate!

There are things that obviously changed, but the story will stay the same. What changed right away was that Caleb and Philip have a larger family to keep with the time, Caleb is aged up to have the mentality to know how to survive, and the time period is jumped ahead to when the witch hunts started in the 1640s but takes place in 1636 as of the first chapter to when they first migrated to America.

KEEP IN MIND WHILE READING:

This is being told from the perspective of a colonizer in a period with different social standards. I did a ton of research to make sure every minority group in this fic will be well represented, but keep in mind that the social issues related to them might make it seem the treatment they suffer with seem normalized when it's very wrong.

I firmly believe that these issues should be brought up if im writing about the period uncensored.

Also, both brothers will be in the wrong in some shape or form. There is no good and evil in this story. It's no good brother vs. bad brother. It's meant to be a tragedy that the two of them made themselves.

CALEB AND HUNTER ARE COLOR BLIND IN AXE AU!! Specifically, they have protanopia. This is a type of color blindness, when everything is really bad for you, you can barely distinguish red from green even by its tone. the picture is made in this palette specifically) hence this joke about plant juice In fact, according to the Axe canon, the blood of witches and demons is really green, but for Caleb, blood, grass and sky - it's all green, he doesn't give a damn This feature of his is symbolic for the story - Caleb doesn't see any differences between the human world and the Boiling Isles, so he's cool with the red grass and purple sky, it doesn't irritate him at all. and he also doesn't care whose blood is spilled, witches or humans - all living beings. and Philip on the opposite, justifies himself with the color of blood, giving himself permission to do terrible things as always I remind you that the art was was by @angstyhikka, you can recognize her paint job by the duplicated highlighted lineart uwu

Little history fact that I think Witteclaw fans might kinda like.

Puritans didn't exchange rings. It was frowned upon because it traced back to Christian values. So, instead, the man in the relationship would give his wife a thimble (thimble were the most common gift) or something that reflected how he saw her. But sometimes, they would model the thimble into a ring anyway.

The only time Puritans would wear rings is when mourning.
