Testing a New Solar Sandwich
By combining the world’s oldest photovoltaic material with today’s most used one, researchers have taken a step toward next-generation solar devices. [...] Thanks to their reliability and cost, silicon-based devices have dominated the commercial solar-panel market for 50 years. But the sunlight–electricity conversion efficiencies of these devices are now nearing their theoretical limits. One challenging but promising way to increase this efficiency is to make solar cells from multiple materials with different photon-absorption properties, which would allow them to absorb more sunlight. Rasmus Nielsen of the Technical University of Denmark and his colleagues have done just that, demonstrating a solar cell that combines silicon with selenium, the first photovoltaic material to be discovered [1]. The researchers say that with updates, the performance of their selenium/silicon device could soon rival today’s best silicon cells.

Hello there! I thought I answered your question in one of my Bulk QAs, but I could be wrong. Sorry if I missed it!
I have not done any Sonic/Kingdom Hearts crossover art before, but I definitely need to! Kingdom Hearts is one of my favorite video game series as well. I'm not too great at designing keyblades but I'll give it a shot one of these days haha.
I don't mind personal questions! I am not sure what I must have said in the past to make it sound like my husband is from Denmark, but he is not. He is an American like me.
Hope you have a great day as well!
[Translation: Hello good Morning. I made a comment to you about 2 months ago, but this being my second time here on Tumblr, I'm not an expert either and I don't know if it was sent (Besides, I'm speaking from a translator and I don't understand English much, so I proceed to XD) Now getting to the point, I wanted to know if you would ever make a Sonic or Sonamy Fan-art related to Kingdom Hearts? If you know the game, of course, because I sincerely adore it with all my soul, just like Sonic, and I would be truly fascinated by it. And finally, not to sound personal, but I saw something that your husband was from Denmark, right? I say this because I am a big fan of geography and Denmark is my favorite Nordic country along with Iceland. Thank you very much for listening and have a great day!]

Welcome to the Eurovision Song Bracket!
This will be a fairly large bracket, consisting of two "teams" of 68 songs for a total of 136 competitors!
The first team has been preselected, and will consist of all previous winners or popular vote winners if applicable.
This means that if your favorite song won, you do not need to submit them (a couple of exceptions apply, see list at the bottom/read more for details)
Submissions are closed!
Rules!
- Entries must have been a part of the main competition of Eurovision of any year (I might do a MGP mini bracket if the people want that)
- Once again, you do not need to submit winners, they are (mostly) automatically in. Again, see bottom for details and explanations.
- You may submit multiple songs, but please don't send the same song over and over.
- Propaganda is highly encouraged! There is a spot for it in the submission form, and adding it on to the poll itself or sending an ask is also allowed. You may send a DM, but I'll probably be slow to respond that way.
How it Works!
- There will be multiple brackets of 34 songs
- Each of the preselected winners will be randomly against one of the submitted songs. Pairings will be decided through number assignment and a random number generator.
- Vote for your favorite! I will include links to the songs in the poll so you can listen to both before voting. The winner will move onto the next round until we find the winner of that bracket.
- Once all brackets are complete, the winners of their individual brackets will go onto the finals to determine the (unofficial) Ultimate Eurovision Song Winner!
- There will be a preliminary around, as 1969 (hehe nice) had a four way tie, so we will need to determine which of those four will represent that year!
Tagging some other brackets to get the word out
@animalcrossingshowdown @ultimate-soup-showdown @least-sexy-man-competition @soulmatebracket @irlcats-bracket @little-cat-showdown @bestvegetablepoll @baby-brawl-bracket @died-but-not-dead-tournament @unusannusbracket
Click the read more for the list of songs that are automatically in the bracket!
(The colors are just to make it less of a wall of text and easier to read)
(Please let me know if a different color would work better)

TUISCO, who Moses called Ashkenaz, was the son of Gomer, the firstborn son of Japheth. He gave rise to the Sarmatians, who live next to Poland, and are now counted among the Germans; he taught them writing, and designed their laws. He gave the German Kingdom its beginning in the 1909th year of the world and the 2053rd year before the birth of Christ. He reigned for 150 years, died, and was taken up among the gods. From Gomer come the Cimbri, who, fleeing from Italy, dwelt in Dacia and the places in the North which we commonly call Denmark. See Berossus book 5.tu

"Magnetic levitation is already employed in systems such as Maglev trains, flywheels and high-speed machinery. Now researchers at the Technical University of Denmark have given this old technology a fresh twist by explaining how a magnet can be levitated simply by rotating another magnet of a similar size near it. This unusual effect was first demonstrated by an electronics/computer and software engineer, Hamdi Ucar, in 2021, and the TU-Denmark team say it could be exploited in the contactless handling of objects or used to trap and manipulate ferromagnetic microparticles.
There are three main types of magnetic levitation. In the first, known as active magnetic stabilization, a control system supplies the magnetic force required keep the levitating object balanced. The second, termed electrodynamic suspension, is used in Maglev trains. Here, a moving magnet induces a current in a stationary conductor, producing a repulsive force that increases with the speed of the moving magnet. The last category, called spin-stabilized levitation, features a levitating magnet that spins at around 500 revolutions per minute (rpm) and remains stable thanks to the gyroscopic effect.
The new type of levitation involves two magnets. The first, dubbed the “rotor”, is mounted on a motor with its north and south poles oriented perpendicular to its rotation axis and made to rotate at velocities of around 10 000 rpm. In the TU-Denmark team’s experiments, this magnet was spherical, 19 mm in diameter and made from neodymium-iron-boron.
The second magnet – the “floater” – is placed near the rotor, begins to spin automatically, and then moves towards the rotor until it hovers in space a few centimetres below it. The floater precesses with the same frequency as the rotor and its magnetization is oriented close to the axis of rotation and towards the like pole of the rotor magnet. If disturbed, a restoring force moves it back to its equilibrium position.
“It is quite surprising that magnetic levitation develops in such as relatively simple system,” says Rasmus Bjørk, a physicist at TU-Denmark who led the study together with Frederik Laust Durhuus and Joachim Marco Hermansen."
"“It is intuitive to all that the magnetostatic force that one magnet exerts on another can be both attractive and repulsive,” explains Durhuus. “Without rotation, the free magnet will rotate so the force becomes purely attractive and then the magnets will collide into each other. What makes the new magnetic levitation system so special is that the rotation itself allows the floater to remain in a counterintuitive configuration, nearly perpendicular to the rotor’s field, where the magnetostatic force both attracts and repels it.”

Lyrics:
Na na na
Donne-moi ton coeur
Donne-moi ton coeur
Na na na
Un tango qui fait

SongFacts:
"In-tango" is a song by Italian dancer and singer-songwriter In-Grid, released in 2003. The English version of this song, titled "We Tango Alone", was recorded in Italy as a B-side track and released as its own single in Australia. "In-tango" reached the top 10 in Denmark and reached the top 40 in Germany, Greece, Hungary and Spain.
The story is about In-Grid watching a movie called In-Tango. She is the star of this film. In the film, she is late for the prom. She walks up to a handsome gentleman and they dance. The girl who danced with this man leaves jealous. The film ends with the entire audience leaving the room because the lyrics are quite disturbing. When In-Grid sees the film, she wears the same clothes as when she acted and sings the same song that she sang in the film.
The lyrics were written by In-Grid and Marco Soncini, who co-produced the song with Alfredo Larry Pignagnoli. The English version was also co-written by Daniela Galli (aka Dhany) and Paul Sears.

My Ideal Eurovision 2024
Well, we've had all of the competing songs for a while now. We've ranked them, we've pit them against the 2023 songs, we've even commiserated over the Semi-Final Running Orders.
But...there is one question that I've noticed is in most Eurovision fan's head, myself included: What if MY National Final Winners Won? And that's what I'm here to share. Below, as you can see from the title, is the Eurovision 2024 had all my National Final winners were selected.
DISCLAIMER: This is not a ranking. I'll have conclusions toward the end of the post. Countries are listed in alphabetical order. I won't change internal selections because that takes up way too much time that I really don't have. And, since this is FOR FUN, if a country has 2 songs that I liked equally, I include both. LET'S GO!
Albania: "Jetën N'skaj" by Erina & The Elementals (unknown placement) Armenia: "Jako" by Ladavina (Internally Selected) Australia: "One Milkali (One Blood)" by Electric Fields (Internally Selected) Austria: "We Will Rave" by Kaleen (Internally Selected) Belgium: "Before The Party's Over" by Mustii (Internally Selected) Croatia: "Rim Tim Tagi Dim' by Baby Lasagna (1st in NF)/"Voljena ženo" by Damir Kedžo (4th in NF) Cyprus: "Liar" by Silia Kapsis (Internally Selected) Czechia: "Red Flag Parade" by MYDY (3rd in NF) Denmark: "Sand" by Saba (1st in NF) Estonia: "My Friend" by Ollie (2nd in NF) Finland: "Dancing With Demons" by Cyan Kicks (4th in NF) France: "Mon Amour" by Slimane (Internally Selected) Georgia: "Firefighter" by Nusta (Internally Selected) Germany: "Naiv" by Marie Reim (6th in NF) Greece: "Zari" by Marina Satti (Internally Selected) Iceland: "Scared Of Heights" by Hera Björk (1st in NF)/"Wild West" by Bashar Murad (2nd in NF) Ireland: "Love Me Like I Do" by Erica-Cody (4th in NF) Italy: "Tu No" by Irama (5th in NF) Latvia: "Heaven's Raining Down On Me" by Patrīcija Spale (NQ in NF Semi) Lithuania: "Luktelk" by Silvester Belt (1st in NF) Luxembourg: "Drowning In The Rain" by Krick (2nd in NF) Malta: "Wild Card" by Gail (11th in NF) Moldova: "In The Middle" by Natalia Barbu (1st in NF) Netherlands: "Europapa" by Joost Klein (Internally Selected) Norway: "Heart On Fire" by Myra (NQ in NF Semi) Poland: "The Tower" by Luna (Internally Selected*) *I know some songs were released, but it was an internal selection* Portugal: "You Can't Hide" by Filipa (10th in NF Semi, NQ) San Marino: "11:11" by Megara (1st in NF*) *I didn't rank the NF songs since UVPSM happened in a literal blink* Serbia: "Ramonda" by Teya Dora (1st in NF)/"Duga je noć" by Filip Baloš (10th in NF Semi, NQ) Slovenia: "Veronika" by Raiven (Internally Selected) Spain: "Sé quién soy" by Angy Fernández (3rd in NF)/"Here To Stay" by Sofia Coll (7th in NF) Sweden: "Awful Liar" by Lisa Ajax (11th in NF) Switzerland: "The Code" by Nemo (Internally Selected) Ukraine: "Teresa & Maria" by alyona alyona/Jerry Heil (1st in NF)/"Dreamer" by Mélovin (3rd in NF) United Kingdom: "Dizzy" by Olly Alexander (Internally Selected)
Conclusions: Even with my NF winners, it still would have been a stacked year (bad bias joke, you can laugh now). But being honest, I think out of all of these, Belgium still would have been my winner. Serbia still would have scored well. The only threat I see to Belgium would be if Luxembourg had chosen Krick.

Shakespeare according to me
I'm not anglo, I learned about plays in Spanish in Spanish class. I've never seen a Shakespeare play. However due to the worldwide prevalence of anglo culture, I think I have a good grasp on what his plays are about. So I pulled a list and this is what I know of each for @aturinfortheworse
All's Well That Ends Well: Well, okay, I thought this was like a phrase said in a play, not the title of a play, I have no idea what happens in this one.
Antony and Cleopatra: Uh, this is about the romance of the title characters until Cleopatra's suicide. I don't think it's very historicaly accurate. As an aside, Cleopatra's death is a hot debated but afaik there's good reason to believe she was killed, rather than having commited suicide.
Comedy of Erros: I thought this was the name of a genre.
Hamlet: Hamlet is the Prince of Denmark who is back from college. His dad is dead and his uncle married his mom so now uncle is king. The ghost of his dad appears to Hamlet and tells him uncle killed him and Hamlet must avenge him. Hamlet struggles with what to do for too long, I think he kills a guy by accident, he could have killed his uncle at some point but didn't because he had just confessed and wouldn't go to hell. Ophelia is Hamlet's love interest and everyone treats her so poorly she goes mad (I think the guy Hamlet killed was her dad) and drowns herself either deliberately or passively. Alas, poor Yorick. To be or not to be. I now realize I have no idea how this ends, but it's a tragedy so maybe Hamlet dies???
Henry ???: This lists 7 plays named Henry, besides obviously being about kings all I know is that one of them references Pontious Pilate washing his hands because I talked with Ruin about that expression.
Julius Caesar: The Senate plots to kill Caesar, Brutus joins because he fears he may become a despot. Caesars ignores his wife's worries and other bad omens and goes out and gets stabbed. Et tu, Brute? Marcus Antonius gives a cool speech after and justice is served. I don't think this is very historically accurate and I'm sure this play is the only reason people on this site care about Caesar's death so much.
King Lear: A king distributes his kingdom between his dauthers and gives the best parts to the ungrateful, mean ones that suck up to him instead of the actually good daughter. Then the mean daughters treat him badly in his old age. Good daughter tries to help him. I think Lear dies???
Macbeth: I actually read a translation of this one, this one doesn't count.
Merchant of Venice: This one is where "Do we not bleed?" comes from, said by a Jewish merchant in reference to Jewish people being, well, people. You'd think this means the play is sympathetic to Jews, but the plot is actually about that merchant being The Worst, so uh, it's pretty anti-semitic.
Midsummer Night's Dream: Woman A and man B are in love, but A's dad wants her to marry man C, woman D is in love with C, but C loves A. Meanwhile the fairy King (Oberon) and Queen (Titania) are having marriage problems and the King decided to prank her by using a love potion to have her her fall in love with a dude whose head was turned into a donkey's (for some reason). While avoiding going to couple's councel he decides he might as well help A, B, C and D sort themselves, but there's a confusion and the love potions creates a perfect love square. Hilarity ensues until everything is sorted out and everyone is freed from the love spell, except C who is made to love D and uh... I think D should have the name of Twelfth's Night's protagonist. This all happens during midsummer.
Much Ado About Nothing: A man and a woman are forced to spend time together because their besties are in love. They claim to hate each other but are just really tsundere. There's a prince.
Othello: Othello is an affluent black man whom everyone loves, except this one guy who hates him because he's racist. He tricks Othello into killing his own wife (Desdemona).
Romeo and Juliet: Okay, I know the plot of this one. Everyone does. Yes, I know it in detail. Just trust me.
Taming of the Shrew: There's a woman no one likes because she has an attitude, a guys take one for the team and marries her so her younger sister that everyone loves will be available for marriage. The husband spends the entire play abusing his wife until she becomes perfectly obedient. I hope there's something I'm missing because what the actual fuck.
Tempest: A dude named Prospero (I think he used to be a king) was exiled with his daughter to an island for some reason. He learns to do magic. Prospero invokes a storm that makes the dude that exiled him (his brother? cousin?) who was passing by take refuge on his island. He has a plan to take revenge, but he also wants his daughter to marry the son of the guy who betrayed him?, so he pretends like he dissaproves of their romance because reverse psychology???? He has a fairy servant that he loves dearly named Ariel. There's also a guy named Caliban who was the original inhabitant of the island who is portrayed as a vicious svage and represents anti-colonialists natives, which is... yeah...
Titus Andronicus: They're romans. Idk what this is about but everyone dies horribly.
Twelfth Night: This is where the Anne Hathaway picture that all the bisexuals love comes from. A woman named Viola (me, a Spanish speaker: ಠಿ_ಠ) disguises herself as her twin brother for reasons (I think she thinks her brother is dead) and gets work under some rich dude and falls in love with him. Said dude is trying to court some rich lady and sends Viola to help him, rich lady falls in love with Viola instead, since she's pretending to be a man. Hilarity ensues. Then Viola's not-dead twin brother shows up and there's much confussion and more hilarity. Everything is sorted in the end and Viola gets to marry her boss and the rich lady settles for Viola's brother, because I guess she was into the pretty face and not the personality. This is where Optimus Prime gets the journey's end in lover's meeting quote I think. I guess it happens across 12 days???
As You Like It, Coriolanus, Cymbeline, King John, Love's Labour's Lost, Measure for Measure, Merry Wives of Windsor, Pericles, Richard II, Richard III, Timon of Athens, Troilus and Cressida, Two Gentlemen of Verona, Winter's Tale: I have never heard of this in my life.

RAF Typhoons intercept Vladimir Putin's "done'sday" aircraft while flying near the NATO border
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 06/07/2023 - 23:39 in Interceptions, Military
The British Royal Air Force (RAF) sent its Typhoon jets to escort a group of Russian aircraft flying over the Baltic Sea, near the border of NATO states. Among the aircraft was the Tu-214 nicknamed the "Done's Day" plane.
The British Typhoons followed the 'Domsday' nuclear command plane and the Su-30M escort fighters near the region of the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad in the Baltic Sea.
Tumblr media
The RAF's Typhoon jets took off from their detached base in Estonia, where they are stationed as part of NATO's Air Policing mission in the Baltic.
The Tupolev Tu-214 was built by the Kremlin to give Vladimir Putin a base to launch nuclear missiles in the event of a third world war.
Tumblr media
The RAF said on Twitter: “The RAF Typhoons in Estonia struggled today to intercept a Russian Air Force Tu-214 flying in international airspace under the control of NATO allies as it transited south and then north again with 2x Su-30M Flanker Hs between mainland Russia and Kaliningrad Oblast.”
The RAF jets escorted the Russian plane and the two Su-30 jets that accompanied it through international airspace as it flew in and out of the Kaliningrad region.
Tumblr media
NATO added that there has been an increase in the number of planes carrying VIPs to and from Kaliningrad.
It is not clear who was on board the Doomsday jet, although it is thought that only "important people" are allowed on the plane.
The incident occurs as NATO chiefs prepare to travel to Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, for a summit next week.
