As the footsteps behind the door grew louder, a slight panic fell over the adults. Nine civilians, nine children to protect. Even if they escaped with no physical injuries, they would have to watch them kill the vampires rather violently. Not to mention the potential that their coach was dead or turned.
“Go, now,” Kunikida hissed.
“Huh?”
The door began to open, and the Winchesters moved to hold it shut.
“Go!” Kunikida raised his voice and waved for them to leave.
Their eyes widened, before they started running back the way they came. How far had they come from the access point? Nori stumbled, having been pushed closer to the tracks as they’d unconsciously drifted apart, and had barely been caught by Jun. Everyone bumped into each other as they ran.
A loud crash came from behind them, followed by a bit of yelling.
---
“Shit,” both Winchesters yelled, as the door was kicked down.
They stumbled back, and Sam tripped as the door caught his foot.
Kunikida and Dazai, who had positioned themselves with machetes by the door, both swung at the first thing that came out. Unfortunately, their estimate of where the head would be was oof and the machetes became lodged in the vampire's chest. However, the brief hesitation allowed the brothers to get back up and draw their own machetes.
Dean cut down the giant vampire, and the two detectives pulled theirs out as he fell.
“Looks like they ran,” Kunikida said between pants.
“Hey, the kids are gone,” Sam said.
Kunikida opened his mouth to say that he’d just said that, before realization dawned on him and he closed his mouth.
“Everyone okay?” Sam asked.
“Yup, let’s go.” Dazai nodded towards the door, and Kunikida and Sam picked up their flashlights.
The minute the light passed the now empty doorway, they were charged. They didn’t even have time to fight back, they were pinned to the group in second. Sam fell back and hit his head on the track. His vision went black for a second before he began to struggle against the vamp trying to rip his throat out.
The other three weren’t fairing much better, Dazai was trying to kick his attacker off while Kunikida tried to grab at a pre-prepared page. Dean, who’d been distracted by his brother flying towards the track, was struggling to regain control.
They were all helpless when another vampire ran out of the room towards where the kids had run.
“Dazai! What do we do?!” Kunikida yelled.
“I don’t kno-”
The head of the vampire above him flew off to the side and the body slumped into Dazai. Everyone froze in surprise, before the Winchesters and Kunikida took control back and grabbed at their weapons. Meanwhile, their savior ran off towards the last vampire.
---
“Where the hell did we come in?” Kuramochi yelled.
“I swear it wasn’t this far before,” Tanba responded from somewhere in the group.
All of a sudden, Sawamura screamed and everyone stopped and turned to find him being grabbed by a young man with dagger-like teeth. He was smiling as he pulled Sawamura in, and opened his mouth. Ice cold fear ran through everyone’s bodies, and there were tears forming in Sawamura’s eyes. Everyone was far too scared to speak.
Suddenly, the monster was shoved forward and he let go of sawamura before being tackled to the side into the tracks.
As their shock and fear subsided, the third years pulled everyone together and stepped back so they were against the wall. It was too dark, and they were moving too fast, to really see much. But it was clear one of them, the one on top, was bashing the other's head into the track.
They all looked away, and some even covered their ears to try and cover the squishing sound now coming from the fight.
“Hey! Are you kids all right?” The man who’d told them to run earlier, called. He was shining his flashlight at them, and without hesitation they ran towards him.
They hadn’t noticed the sounds and movement from the tracks stopped.
“The-Someone-” Everyone was speaking over each other in a panic, pointing towards the track.
Dean, who’d followed Kunikida while Dazai helped Sam up and to a doctor, pointed his phone light to where the boys were pointing.
There, sitting over a body, was Kataoka Tesshin. His breath was heavy, as to be expected from the rather violent beating he’d just given, and he wasn’t looking at them.
Dean shifted his grip on his machete, and Kunikda moved in front of the boys slightly.
“Coach?” Tetsu called.
He raised his hand.
“Don-Don’t come closer. I can’t hurt you boys.” He didn’t turn around, still staring down the tunnel.
“Ask him if he’s been turned and if he’s eaten anyone,” Dean whispered to Kunikida.
“Did you ingest any of your captors blood?” Kunikida asked, and the kids gave him looks of disgust and confusion.
Kataoka let out a dry laugh, and Kunikida took that as a yes.
“Have you had any human blood since then?”
“Does it matter?”
“Coach…”
“We can turn you back.” Kataoka turned to look at him. “But only if you haven’t drunk any human blood.”
“No, I haven’t.”
---
“Kunikida!” Dazai called from the empty platform, waving.
Kunikida frowned. “Why’s the platform empty? Where’s Mr. Winchester?”
“I figured the less people around the better, so I had the president have the police clear this platform out. I also had him send Yosano to take Sam, she says he has a bit of a concussion but he’ll live.”
“Where’s Sam?”
“Our doctor has him, don’t worry.” Dazai smiled and waved at Dean. “Who’s the big guy?”
“Kataoka Tesshin, the missing coach. He says there are more people, some turned and some not, back where we were. I’m going to get them, are you coming?”
“Yup!”
Kunikida made sure Dean was okay with the small group before him and Dazai made their way back to the track.
“By the way,” Dazai said, stopping, “Dean!”
“What?”
“Their teacher is waiting with the police on the next platform up. Just a heads up!”
---
“When they get back everyone one of you is getting a call home,” Kazuyoshi said for the hundredth time since the rest of the team had caved and told him where the others were. “And I guarantee the coach is going to give you some form of punishment as well.”
“I think a hundred laps would be a fair start.”
They all turned to the escalator to find Kataoka leaning against someone, with the rest of the team behind them.
“Coach!”
They all ran forward without really thinking, and awkwardly shuffled back again so everyone could get off the escalator.
“Hey! Can we get a doctor?” Dean called out to no one in particular.
Yosano, the agency’s doctor, came over from an ambulance where Dean could see a few paramedics helping his brother.
“He’s fine,” Dean told her, “well mostly. Nothing you shouldn’t be able to handle.”
She laughed, and helped Dean easy kataoka onto his feet and towards the ambulance.
Finally being able to stand up straight, Dean stretched back. His relaxation was cut off by a sudden yell.
“I have never, in my life, seen such a stupid idea. You were all incredibly lucky today, but that luck ends now! As soon as I get you all sat down I am calling the school, and they will be calling all of your parents. Not to mention-”
The team could see the police officers roping off the area quietly chuckling as Kazuyoshi continued to scold them.
“You nine need to thank those detectives and apologize to them before we leave. But… I am glad you're all safe.”
“We’re sorry!” The team said, bowing.
Meanwhile, Dean had taken a seat with his brother in the back of the ambulance.
“So, when do we leave?”
“Actually, apparently our payment is being able to take a vacation here for a week.”
“This week?”
“No, next year.” Sam rolled his eyes.
“Hey! It was a valid question… How are you feeling?”
“Like I hit my head on a train track.”
“Yosano-sensei! Mr. Winchester! We have a few people on the other level who need treatment,” Kunikida called.
“Coming!”
---
“We’re sorry for any trouble we caused you!” The Seidou team said, bowing to the agency and Winchesters.
They were currently on their way to the train station, hopefully for the last time, and had stopped by the agency to say thank you. The Winchesters were there to write their reports for Ango.
“If you ever consider doing something like that again,” Kunikida started, pushing up his glasses, “I sincerely suggest you go to the doctor to get your head checked.”
“Thank you, again,” Kataoka said, bowing to the Winchesters.
“Don’t worry about it, it’s what we do.”
“Bye!” They called as they left.
“Bye!”
“Bye!”

Eijun ducked a neon green glob as it flew toward his face. On immediate contact with the ground, the acid hissed as fumes rose from the slow-spreading puddle. While he may have avoided one, Eijun still had to jump over another spot of toxic ooze. This wasn't anything new, however, as a good portion of the floor now had a rancid layer of acid. The toxic puddles themselves had quickly grown to be a problem with how frequently they were shot out from all orifices of the toads.   The battle initially began nice and organized, per usual. They divided into teams to focus on each toad. Miyuki and Yui made first contact with their designated boss as the whole team began the assault to whittle the damned things down. The melee struggled quite a bit, what with the natural poisonous slime that coated the toad's bumpy flesh, causing any who made direct contact to suffer from their toxin. Eijun spent a good portion of time bouncing around from melee to melee, in an attempt to cleanse them all repeatedly.

“hi, could you do an imagine about a fem! reader being the only girl on seidou's first-string baseball team? ignoring the absurd circumstance under which that would ever occur, of course. maybe set this during season 1/2 where the third years (chris, tetsu, jun etc) are still around!! thank you so much!”
seidou x fem! Reader (i hope headcanons are okay, i felt like it flowed better)
fandom: daiya no ace / ace of diamond
song recommendation: dangerous woman - ariana grande
being the only girl on the seidou team:
every??? other??? school??? was???? confused??
you had the pitch of a fucking beast so kataoka made you a pitcher and shit, schools extremely underestimated you. it was all fun and games until they were struck out in less than thirty seconds.
sawamura and furuya basically praised the ground you walked on but so did half the school so???
you know how seniors generally adopt freshmen? you adopted sawamura the moment you saw him. it wasn’t unusual to see the both of you singing in the dorms at all times of the day.
your ego/confidence was up to narumiya levels considering you were one of the best pitchers in japan so you had every right to be that way.
you and ryo started dating and the team went into shambles. your ego and ryo’s scary attitude really got the team on edge and the both of you used it to your advantages.
you and jun got into more arguments than one could count. there wasn’t one day when tetsu had to step in and stop the both of you from fighting each other. jun didn’t care that you were a girl, he was ready to throw had 28/5.
chris was genuinely the only person who knew your real self. obviously excluding ryo bc he was your bf. he would be there for the days where you would break down bc of hurtful comments from other teams or people in the crowd. sometimes being the only girl on a boys team really fucking sucked.
on the same note, he understood that you struggled with you feminine side. you were always surrounded by boys and if you even dared to wear a dress or a skirt, there would be laughs and jokes for days. they seen you as one of the boys, not like the managers or their girl classmates. sometimes you wondered how the hell you got ryo to like you.
because you adopted sawamura, there would be days where you would have to stop miyuki and kuramochi from harassing him. that led to you and kuramochi straight up wrestling each other until you tapped him out.
the media polarized the hell out of you. you were a girl! on an all star boys team! how odd! there would be days where different magazines would call you for interviews or photoshoots and frankly, you were tired of it but you knew it was good publicity for the school so you unwillingly did the photoshoots and interviews. it was weird to see your face plastered all over west tokyo and that really didn’t ease the comments from other teams and opposing crowds.
you remember on two different occasions during the same game when you nearly fought someone in the crowd and an opposing team player. it ended with the team holding you back before you got ejected and that had been the only time the team had seen you cry. it was a pretty tough scene to watch.
a: it was a televised event so nearly all of tokyo seen you break down. b: that also made a few players have to hold ryo back as well before he went over to fight for you. c: that was when it dawned on everyone, including the school board and different teams, that you were being mistreated. mistreated in a way that they hadn’t realized. the comments, which included raunchy and sexual innuendos, caught everyone off guard.
they didn’t bench you but they had to enforce rules that they weren’t enforcing when you originally joined. the school board caught heat for it and you willingly took a few weeks off, scaring the team that you would drop them bc of the incident.
when you went back to practice, after a few therapy sessions with ryo, chris, kataoka, rei, and the school counselor, you were determined to finish your third year with the team. you had quite literally seen the relief fall onto everyones faces.
it was tough being the only girl but you were proud of the work you put into seidou’s team. you were a badass pitcher and you gender never defined you.

Daiya no Ace: The Dramas #10: Third Year Study Group
An explanation…
To keep my brain from rusting I started a project to translate the drama tracks that came with the character song CDs and other stuff relating to Daiya no Ace (because I love them and they’re all hilarious). My disclaimer - I am not a native speaker of Japanese, but I will do my best!
Character Song CD 07 Yuuki Tetsuya Drama Track 02 featuring Tetsu, Jun and Tanba.
Scene: Tetsu, Jun and Tanba have got together – either in the dorm canteen or their classroom – to hold an exam study group for the examinations coming up. The subjects they are most concerned with are those taught by the teachers who run the baseball club, especially Kataoka’s ‘Modern Japanese’ class…
Translator’s Note: Another appearance by the third years! And also, this time, the coach appears! And we learn some interesting trivia about the senpai! This drama is full of word discussions, so I’ve done my best to make it clear!
Tetsu: It’s finally tomorrow, huh.
Jun: There’s seriously not enough time
Tetsu: We can’t ignore Modern Japanese…
Jun: The coach is the teacher, after all. And we have to really be careful of Social Studies and English as well.
Tetsu: Ōta Buchou and Takashima Fuku-buchou’s classes, huh.
Jun: Even at the very worst we need to get above the average mark. And more to the point, where’s Tanba? I said I’d study too because he said he was going to do exam revision!
Tetsu: He said he was going to wash off the sweat of training and then come.
Jun: He’s in the bath, huh. How long is he planning to spend in there?
The door opens and Tanba enters.
Tanba: (Stretches and sighs).
Jun: Oi, you finally turned up, Tanba! How long did you take in the bath, dammit?
Tanba: I shaved my head. Completely.
Jun: You’re really laid back, you know. We have exams from tomorrow.
Tanba: I did it to focus my emotions.
Tetsu: Mm. It seems like the sparkle on your head is even greater than usual. (I think he pats it).
Tanba: Hey! Don’t touch it, Yuuki! I just got myself hyped up and you’ll ruin it!
Jun: Hey, let’s get down to it, guys!
Tetsu: Mm. What shall we begin with?
Tanba: I want to start with figuring out a strategy to tackle Modern Japanese.
Tetsu: Because it’s the coach’s class, huh?
Tanba: That’s a part of it, but it’s also the first exam tomorrow morning. If we can do a good paper then, it will set us up with a good vibe for the rest.
Tetsu: Mm. You’re quite right.
Jun: Yosh! Let’s start with Modern Japanese! Someone get the textbook open, dammit!
(they get to work).
Tanba: Hrm, it seems like the key to Modern Japanese is definitely reading prowess.
Tetsu: The power to read a paragraph, and understand the contents and meaning from doing so, huh.
Jun: I’m always reading books, so I’m pretty confident about that.
Tanba: Me too. What about you, Yuuki?
Tetsu: I often read books that examine good moves and strategy.
Jun: Those are shougi books, right? That’s not helping your reading ability, but more like your ability to carry out exercises.
Tanba: Yosh. In that case I’ll lend you a book written by the person I respect the most.
Yuuki: (takes the book): Okamoto Tarou. (Translator’s note – I believe he was a Japanese artist…but am not quite sure how that feeds into what Jun and Tanba say, so I may be missing a more native Japanese joke here. Or maybe Tanba is just really into abstract art.)
Jun: That’s a book on guidance for life, right?
Tanba: Yes. It resolves all the troubles I have and answers all my questions perfectly. It’s really beneficial.
Jun: But it’s not going to come up on the exam.
Tetsu: I’d really like a book that’s going to help with my results.
Tanba: In that case, Isashiki, don’t you have anything?
Jun: Huh? Me?
Tanba: Yeah. Something relevant to the exam.
Jun: I have, but…
Tetsu: Please lend it to me, Jun.
Jun: Tsch. I guess it can’t be helped. Here you go.
Tetsu and Tanba gasp.
Tetsu: Chihayafuru?! (Translator note: I had to stop the drama to laugh at this the first time I listened to it. I also love Chihayafuru. Go Jun!)
Tanba: Shoujo manga?
Jun: (defensive): What, you got a problem with it?!
Tanba: Uh…well…no…that’s not what I…
Jun: It helps with reading skill and with learning the hyakunin isshū as well! (Translator note: If you’re not familiar with Chihayafuru, it features a card game called Karuta in which players have to match the top and bottom halves of waka poems before their opponent. These poems come from an ancient collection of traditional Japanese waka poetry called the hyakunin isshū).
Tetsu: (Serious) It certainly sounds useful.
Tanba: But…Isashiki…The hyakunin isshū aren’t on the syllabus this time around.
Jun: (angry): What?! In that case, what about Asaki Yumemishi! (Another manga, based around the ancient text Genji Monogatari, also known as the ‘Tale of Genji’)
Tetsu: Genji Monogatari, huh…
Tanba: That’s also outside the syllabus.
Jun: WHAT?!
Tanba: In any case, both of them are based around things from Classical Japanese, not Modern Japanese! Let’s focus on Modern Japanese!
Tetsu: Right. Then what other skills are likely to be tested?
Tanba: Vocabulary knowledge, probably. Whether we know the correct meaning for idioms or kanji.
Jun: Oh! In that case, let’s try some practice questions!
Tanba: That’s a good idea. The one asking questions and the one answering them will both get something from that.
Tetsu: Yosh. Then I’ll ask some questions.
Jun: All right! Bring it, Tetsu!
Tetsu: Mm. Kanji or idiom meanings, huh…first is, ‘hachiku no ikioi’ (literally, the force taken to split bamboo, idiomatically, an irresistible force).
Tanba: Yes!
Tetsu: Tanba.
Tanba: To advance with fierce energy, right?
Jun: Pretty much the same thing as taking the national title, then!
Tetsu: Correct. Next. ‘Kouitten’ (literally, one red point, idiomatically, a woman that stands out from the crowd).
Tanba: Yes!
Tetsu: Tanba.
Tanba: Takashima-sensei..? (Translator’s note: Something you want to tell us there, Tanba?)
Jun: No, more like one of the manager girls, surely?
Tetsu: Nope, those answers are no good. (he answers very matter-of-factly). Next. ‘Kendou juurai’ (Literally this one makes no sense, idiomatically to regroup to try again)
Tanba: Yes!
Tetsu: Tanba.
Tanba: Finding the power to try again at something you already failed at once. To turn the tables back on a defeat!
Jun: Just you wait, Inajitsu! Next time we will DEFINITELY WIN!
Tetsu: Correct.
Tanba: You really know these answers well, Yuuki.
Jun: How did you learn them?
Tetsu: I didn’t do anything particularly special. I just watched a lot of TV dramas…and they naturally just stuck in my head.
Jun: That reminds me, you like Yorozuya Kinnosuke, don’t you? (Translator’s Note: A famous Japanese actor, who performed on both stage and screen).
Tanba: From watching period drama, huh…ah! But now we really need to get back to doing Modern Japanese!
The door of the room opens and Kataoka enters. Maybe Tanba’s sudden flurry back to study is because he sees the coach coming!
Kataoka: What’s that about Modern Japanese?
Jun: C…Coach!
Kataoka: What are you guys doing here this late at night? Don’t tell me you think you can overnight cram my class material, do you?
Jun: Of course not!
Tetsu: We were just making some final clarifications together.
Tanba has basically frozen like a statue and is making incoherent sounds.
Jun: Don’t freeze up, Tanba, say something!
Kataoka: The most important thing in studying is to build on it, day by day. You understand that, right?
The boys: Yes sir!
Kataoka: I believe you can apply the dedicated attitude you have towards baseball to the approach you take to your studies. I am expecting good results from you all.
Jun: Yes sir!
Kataoka: Mm! It will soon be the time to close up. Yuuki, hurry up and go home.
Tetsu: Yes sir!
Kataoka: Isashiki and Tanba, you should go get some sleep.
Jun and Tanba: Yes sir!
(he leaves).
Jun: Ah, that was a shock.
Tanba: My palms are sweating.
Tetsu: Tonight’s study group is disbanded then, I guess.
Tanba: The coach said he expects good results from us…what do you suppose that means?
Jun: Getting higher than the class average is probably not going to cut it.
Tetsu: He probably wants us to aim for the top rankings.
Tanba: What should we do…
Jun: No point in flapping about it! The exam is tomorrow. All we can do is take it on the best we can!
Tetsu: I don’t know about results, but if we leave our fortunes to heaven, we can do our best.
Tanba: Yes!
Tetsu: Tanba.
Tanba: ‘Ichikabachika’, right? (to sink or swim).
Tetsu: Tanba. You are correct.
Jun: You nailed it.
Tanba: Uh. But…that one isn’t on the syllabus.
Tetsu: What?!

You Can't take the Sky From Me- Serenity chpt.4

Recovery date: March 4th, 2024
Description: The crew of The Challenger, captained by Miyuki Kazuya, take on a job that requires the cover of another job ferrying people. Ever the genius, Miyuki keeps some key details hidden from his crew, and it bites him in the ass.
Notes: Updates will be irregular because I'm still writing chapters but only as I feel like it. Don't question the timeline here please, it's only sort of coherent.

Kuramochi had put up with a lot of Miyuki’s bullshit in his time running with the young captain. The man was reckless with his safety, and that made him a danger to be around, but he didn’t mind. Danger was what he wanted. In this world freedom was dangerous, and freedom was all he wanted. It was why he used to scavenge in Alliance scrap yards on Ariel, it was why he ran with Ryou, and it was why he followed his hazard of a captain.
But this? This was more than Miyuki being a hazard, this was him actively putting his crew in danger for the sake of a job.
If they’d been stopped by the Alliance while Miyuki was asleep, if Mei hadn’t kicked up a fuss, if Chris hadn’t recognized Rei and he hadn’t recognized Haruichi… if they’d been caught harboring fugitives, then nowhere would be safe for them. They toed the line of legality enough as it was, but they were always in agreement to break the law to help people. All Miyuki had to do was explain what was happening and Kuramochi was sure everyone would have signed on, if not a bit begrudgingly.
He doesn’t think any plan Miyuki has will make him want to stay, and he’s pretty sure Ryou won’t be too happy with him delivering his younger brother to his door, so he’s not sure where he’ll go next. But he’s got plenty of time to think about it with the remaining four days of their trip.
A knock on the cockpit door snapped him from his reverie.
“Come in, unless your Miyuki then you can go fuck yourself!”
The door creaked open, and he turned around partway to find Zono and Nabe stepping through the hatch. He sighs and turns completely, dropping his hands into his lap and leaning forward on his elbows.
Nabe takes a seat, while Zono leans back against the wall, and the three sit in silence for a solid minute.
“You aren’t actually going to leave, are you?” Nabe asks, his voice is quiet as though he doesn’t want to be heard.
Kuramochi lets out a tired sigh.
“I don’t know.”
“Well I think you should,” Zono grumbles, “he could have gotten us killed! And he promised to stop being all secretive after the last mission.”
“Zono… I get why he didn’t tell us.”
“Ya,” Nabe mumbled. “If we’d known we would’ve tried to avoid the Alliance, and then when Miyuki told us not to, this,” he waves a finger in circles, gesturing to the three of them, “would have happened anyways.”
“Doesn’t make it right.”
“No, and if he doesn’t apologize I will leave, and you two should too.”
Nabe and Zono nodded in silent agreement, but Zono stopped when he turned to leave and faced Kuramochi again. The pilot had already swiveled back around.
“Speaking of secrets. Who’s pinky?”
Kuramochi doesn’t turn around when he answers, “A… An acquaintance's brother.”
“And you didn’t think to tell us he was Alliance?” Zono sounds annoyed.
He’d been so caught up in his anger with Miyuki that he’d completely forgotten that Kuramochi had recognized the pink haired boy when they’d picked him and his friends up.
“He’s not a fugitive as far as I know, it wasn’t going to be a problem.”
Nabe is left confused as Zono seems to accept the answer. Kuramochi doesn’t have a history of lying, unlike their captain, and Zono knows he could’ve pushed him for more information back when he announced he was going to take the boy to Haven. So he leaves quietly, and Kuramochi can hear him explaining the situation to Nabe behind the door.
He’s left alone once more, and finds himself thinking back to how he’d met Ryousuke Kominato.
When Kuramochi first broke into an Alliance storage facility, deciding to take a step up from his usual scrapyards, he was… clumsy, to say the least. If he hadn’t run into a pink haired pirate, also mid-theft, he definitely would have been caught, so he was baffled when the man didn’t immediately kick him off his ship after they’d escaped.
“So, are we partners now?” Kuramochi asked, dropping into the co-pilot seat of Ryou’s dinghy little ship.
“No.”
“Then just drop me off back at the settlement.”
“No.”
“Wait, is this a kidnapping?”
Ryou rolled his eyes as he readied the ship for take off.
“Consider it payment for saving you.”
“I could’ve handled myself,” Kuramochi grumbled, crossing his arms and staring a hole into the dashboard.
“Like a bull in a china shop,” Ryou snickered.
Up until this point, Kuramochi Yoichi was known for nothing. He lived in a small rural settlement on Ariel and regularly raided the junkyard for scraps to sell– much to his family's chagrin. School was a lost cause for him, even if his family had scraped together the money to send him to a good academy they were sure he’d have gotten himself kicked out. Letting him be a scavenger certainly wasn’t what they’d hoped of him, but he seemed to make it work.
However, he was about to find himself smack dab in the middle of the Alliance’s radar.
“So, where are we going?” Kuramochi asked once they’d left the atmosphere.
Ryou glances at his new companion briefly out of the corner of his eye, but doesn’t respond.
Kuramochi waits, watching him, before asking a different question.
“You a pirate?”
A faint smile pulls at Ryou’s lips. “Ya.”
“You gonna kill me?” Kuramochi asks, scrutinizing the man beside him.
He doesn’t look like a pirate to Kuramochi. Ryou is clean, wearing a white button up and a vest. Instead of a pirate, Ryou looks more like a doctor on a house call. Maybe he was pretending to be a doctor?
Ryou’s brows furrow as he feels Kuramochi seemingly sizing him up. This was going to be a long ride, he could feel it already.
“Yes, if you don’t shut up.”
Kuramochi rolls his eyes and turns to face the vast void before them. He thinks he should be more afraid then he is, but instead he’s excited. This is his chance to be free, to explore the sky.
“So… you can fly a ship?”
“No.”
“Can you teach me?”
“How about I tell you what I need you to do?” Ryou snaps, looking to shut Kuramochi up.
“Hey man, I asked you that earlier and you said no.”
“Well I’ve changed my mind.”
---
Kominato Ryouske is known by the Alliance for a lot of things. Most interestingly, he’s known for being a former medical genius who dropped out of the academy and joined a band of pirates just a year before graduating.
No one understood why he left, much less to join pirates, but they were quick to move on to an even more impressive genius.
Kominato Haruichi was even smarter than his brother, that’s what everyone said. Ryouske had enrolled in the academy at age sixteen, Haruichi enrolled two years later at age fourteen. Ryouske was set to graduate a year early at age nineteen, not that it mattered because Haruichi would surely graduate a year early as well at age seventeen. So when one of his academy friends showed up at his room’s door in the middle of the night with a frantic look in his eyes, Ryou knew that whatever happened next was his only chance to escape his younger brother’s shadow.
His bare feet stuck to the perfectly pristine linoleum floor, while only the heaviness of Jun’s stride echoed under him as they rushed through the blinding halls. He needed no reassurance of the lack of security, he was ready to fight anyone that got between him and his freedom. Jun led him out into the cool night air, he remembers thinking of how he and Haruichi used to play on days like this back home, towards a landing dock.
They round a couple of crates and there’s the sharp sound of a gun’s safety being unlocked when Yuki levels a pistol at Jun’s head. He’s crouched over Tanba who’s clearly bleeding heavily, his sleep shirt is soaked in blood and Yuki is pressing a bloody towel down on his shoulder. Just as Yuki lowers the gun, Chris pops out of the open ship.
“What’s Ryou doing here?” He asks, beating Yuki.
“We needed a doctor.”
Ryou hadn’t even let him finish before he was crouched down beside Tanba and examining the wound.
“Did you at least tell him what’s happening?” Yuki asked.
“Either you were running away or fighting for something and honestly I don’t care,” Ryou looked up at the man across from him. “I want out, same as you all.”
Yuki gave him a curt nod.
“What do you need?”
“We need to get Tanba on the ship and get out of here. They won’t save him if we get caught now, he’ll just be used as a warning.”
Said man let out a pained groan in response.
“Jun, help me move him,” Yuki whispered.
Ryou helped Tanba hold the soaked towel in place before running onto the ship to prep the small med corner while Chris settled into the pilot’s seat.
That night five students defected from an Alliance Academy, with Tanba Koichiro being declared dead– killed in a fire fight as he and his cohort stole a ship.

"Okumura Koushuu?" Yuuki stated though his eyes remained locked onto the piece of parchment in front of him.
"Yes."
"Class?"
"Berserker."
"Main role?"
"Tank."
EIjun's eyes darted between Yuuki and Okumura as the interview progressed. Though the conversation itself wasn't very riveting.
It just so happened that Eijun had been with Miyuki and Haruichi when Yuuki hunted Miyuki down to sit in for the interview. Out of boredom and curiosity, Eijun tagged along and no one said anything about it; maybe except for Okumura, though he hadn't vocally spoken his inquiries, instead, sent Eijun the occasional side-eye. It didn't help that Yuuki introduced himself as the captain and Miyuki as the main tank, yet here Eijun sat, currently nameless.
They were settled in one of the smaller, unused conference rooms in Seido, with he, Yuuki, and Miyuki sitting on one side of the sole wooden table, while Okumura was on the other. Okumura was rigid in his chair, yet his eyes were narrowed into a glare; whether from anger, nerves or that was simply how his face was, Eijun couldn't be sure.
Being witness to the interview brought Eijun back to when he first arrived at Seido, which was a vastly different experience than what Okumura had to sit through. Befuddled, Eijun leaned closer to Miyuki, and with a hand shielding his mouth he whispered, "Why is this so different than when I joined?"
So far, Miyuki had been leaned back in his chair, arms folded across his chest the entire duration of the interview. Even now, his gaze was hyper-focused on Okumura, almost as if he were searching him for something. However, because of that, Miyuki didn't respond right away. In fact, he took so long that Eijun had to wonder if he even heard the question at all. Yet, just when Eijun began to debate asking again or waiting until after, Miyuki tilted his head toward Eijun, eyes still trained on Okumura, and mumbled, "You were recruited. He applied."

This started because I said that Miyuki and Kuramochi would wear leopard print and $900 tracksuits unironically and spiraled from there.
