more clone^2 memes because i think they're funny

#dpxdc#dp x dc#dp x dc crossover#dpxdc crossover#dpdc#clone^2#danny fenton is not the ghost king#so canon to clone^2 and clone damian the portal that ends up transporting damian to amity park is left pr ambiguous#so really how he got there could be one of many things whether it be through divine intervention or clockwork's doing or hell#it could've also been quite literally the 1 in 1 millionth chance that a natural portal opened up beneath him and sent him to amity#and was a happy accident#but the idea that the laz pits or another adjacent such entity heard damian wanting an older brother (he meant og damian but oops never-#specified) and then sends him to the one person who could fulfill that wish and make him happy at the same time.#was really funny to me within the context of the lilo and stitch meme. the meme can also be seen the other way around with danny as lilo#and damian as stitch. but danny being stitch was infinitely funnier and ~technically~ more accurate imo#danny technically IS a nice angel but also. he's a developing menace to society (just ask wes) and he's going to make damian one too#danny being from the midwest means he has a midwestern accent and thats not something the bats know how to handle when they finally meet hi#hey look at that! my meme making skills are steadily improving. im no longer making the same joke six different times in different formats#those first two images i made a few days ago the rest i made in the last thirty minutes in a spur of clone^2 induced inspiration#and procrastination of writing the cfau rewrite of the first post. we are 10k words deep folks and just barely got past the 1st gala reunio#dunking on the giw is a god-given right and danny WILL pass it down to damian

So this is admittedly coming from me using my engineering paper to do art studies (which actually has been very helpful for proportion consistency and understanding why something looks off to me)
But I agree that Gideon is actually a fairly decent artist who has whatever the equivalent of an engineering notebook in Avantris is, full of drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
While most of these are of equipment, rides, and gadgets he's either seen or been wanting to make if he ever had the resources for them there are some of people and creatures that catch his eye.
Now, these drawings tend to be very technical just basically replicating exactly what he sees down to fine details. They're not gonna be hung up in museums or aiming to express some deep, symbolic meaning.
They're are as direct and to the point as the man holding the pen drafting them. More akin to biological illustrations or engineering drawings. Little distinction between drawing a person to drawing a machine.
It can come off quite cold, actually. Maybe even unnerving to see yourself dissected and pulled apart into components.
It's why Gideon doesn't consider himself much of an artist. To him, this isn't art. If anything, it's closer to copying or tracing in his mind.
Initially, when Kremy finally got to see these drawings, he was a little disappointed with how stiff and clinical they all looked. He particularly didn't know how to feel about all the ones of him from angles he personally found unflattering or the ones that were side by side comparisons to wild alligators.
And maybe perhaps previous romantic notions of a hidden page of him rendered with soft strokes and reverent shades of charcoal were quickly erased, but at least Gid got his snout shape correct.
It does ease his mind at least that the rest of the crew gets the same treatment. Sure, there are still more pages of him than anyone else, but Kremy boils it down as a product of near constant proximity than one of muse. Otherwise, his interest in the notebook fades. The illustrations are still impressive within their own right, and he makes sure to tell Gid that whenever he finds him angrily ripping out a page that he's spent almost an hour over correcting dimensions on.
It really isn't until he finds a page on Torbek that wasn't there before that Kremy starts to pay it any mind. There's nothing particularly special about Torbek's page. It's the same clinical breakdown of his physiology and of his attire.
But it's there now when it wasn't there before in all the time they've known Torbek prior to the Faewild. Then, another page appears with Twig and all her little details pinned to the paper.
That's when it finally occurs to Kremy. Gideon, a man who prides himself in living to the fullest. Never slowing down as he races from one moment to the next. Is taking the time to notice and jot them down to memory.
These are not quick, sweeping scratches of lead. But meticulously measured lines calculated to take on the form of their visage. Every flaw, every nick, every piece that comes together to make them a whole, living mechanism perfectly replicated and accounted for.
There are no vibrant hues or eye-catching gestures that make one feel like they were sculpted from silk, but there is beauty in the exact distance between your eyes.
And if Kremy instinctively begins to still at the sight of a ruler taking his measurements from a distance, to afford time to a man who's only ever had it taken from him well that's between him and the good Baron.
#once upon a witchlight#gideon coal#kremy lecroux#he ended up getting mentioned cause of course he wld#damn this was just gonna be a post about gideon making detailed diagrams of his friends#sorry about that i got lost in the dichotomy between engineering technical skills and art#my fellow stem majors hear me out#artists are not our polar opposite but actually a lot more closer to our profession than we think#YOU may be an artist and not even realize#this is also practice to further develop my idea of how gideon expresses his feelings#like i think with how explosive gideon can get that the assumption is he wears his feelings on his sleeve#but like hes very particular about which emotions leak out while the rest are locked up tight#does that make sense#like i think a lot about his form of affection is heavily tied to his utility#but im getting off the point again

#I'm still waiting for the formal offer letter but let me tell you how i got this job#a hiring manager reached out to me on LinkedIn asking if I'd be interested in the team he's building#so i was like yeah I'll throw my hat in#i had an easy coding screen with him (valid palindrome lol)#then i had a screen with another manager around QA practices#then i went through four more interviews as part of a 'final loop'#one was a more difficult coding question. one was design a test framework. one was QA-behavorial#and the other was communication + collab behavorial#each of those six interviews was a 45 minute video call btw#this all took like. three months lmfao#then a week after that i heard back that they didn't want me for that role#but that one of the guys i interviewed with is a hiring manager on an adjacent team and he really liked me#when i looked back at my notes sure enough that guy is the one who ended our call with 'i hope i get to work with you!' lol#so they wanted to put me for this other slightly less technical role#and i was like yeah sure why not i liked that guy too lol#so the next day i had one final interview with a senior leader asking about my priorization and conflict resolution skills#which makes sense since this is a more cross-functional communication role with lots of talking to developers#and that guy was awesome and definitely someone I'd work for#so a few days later i got the verbal offer!#i will also add that during all of this i also went to the final stage for a different team at the same company#but was plain out rejected from that one lol#plus i did beginning screens for two other roles as well and didnt make it as far#all this to say i did like... over a dozen interviews with this company since October lol#and i studied like CRAZY. i spent hours on leetcode and hours putting together stories from my experience#i worked very very very hard and it finally fucking paid off!!!!!#back in october i said to my wife 'i want to get a job at (company). i think that will be my goal now.'#and she was like lol ok. but i kept getting interviews and studying for them#working harder than i ever did in college even lmao. and she was like oh wait you're really serious#and then she helped me sooooo much by taking care of the kids while i studied and stuff like that#but yeah i did it. i put my mind to it and i fucking did it!!!!!

why are 99% of crochet animal patterns just vague blobs. cmon. i know we can do better as a community. have you seen the shit the national parks service put out? yeah, the NPS. there are grandmas on the frontlines of the most formally accurate critters this side of a 3D printer. we can do better than orb with two triangles sewn on. we can make a more accurate cat. that is NOT what a turtle looks like. step AWAY from the axolotl
#EVERYTHINGS TOO CHIBI CMON. WE CAN HAVE VARIETY. WE CAN HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF CHALLENGE#i’m not saying everything has to be photorealistic. but it feels love every new pattern i see is the same basic shapes recycled#because people are so desperate to have ~content~ that they don’t have time to technically develop their skills to a point where they#actually have something to contribute to the conversation artistically#text✨#this is extremely petty. however : come ON. so much of the crochet content i see is extremely beginner basic stuff newbies are being tricked#into mass producing for ‘markets’ where they are very unlikely to sell#and then they burn out of the hobby within a few weeks. this is NOT sustainable. and extremely wasteful of time and resources#i hate you should sell culture it’s. extremely annoying#i try to only do stuff that is either a) at least nominally useful or b) a gift for someone . bc i so desperately do not want to burn out#on this hobby and i love it sm . i feel so bad for all the people i see getting conned by the you gotta sell attitude and just. ruining the#hobby for themselves. you gotta do it for you you gotta#on topic. also like cmon. stop chibifying animals that are culturally significant to other communities just for money

Happy VERY MUCH LATE anniversary to the 'Runaway' video!!! 🎉
This animation, made back in april of 2019, was pretty much the proper beginning of my 'Runaway' universe/AU! And yes, this universe got its name exactly from this.
Since that time, a lot has changed (for the better!) in this story. A lot of development happened in pre-existing characters as well as a lot of new ones had appeared. Also, starting in January of 2021, I created my ongoing comic based on this to tell the story more thoroughly.
I just wanted to take a moment to appreciate it all, as everything I mentioned here is so very important to me and has been ever since its first days. It might not be objectively good, but that won't change my feelings about it. I hold it so very dearly to my heart.
'Runaway' has existed for roughly 6 years now and I hope it will only continue on existing for more years to come.
#ethu stuff#runaway comic#gif#mmd#mikumikudance#mmd render#3d#my oc(s)#hiromi kuroibara#i just had one of these moments where i reminisce about old stuff i made#and of course i was met with this video#and just oigughhghhhhhh#man.....#i love it....#it's not the pinnacle of my skills but it surely holds a very strong sentimental feeling to itself#technically you could say that this uni started with the 'change the formality' video#and it kinda did#giving hiromi a brother surely was this starting point from which everything developed into what it is today#yet still#the 'runaway' video was this proper start that shaped the basic vision of what i wanted this story to look like#like did you know when i firstly made hiromi she was just supposed to be a weird demon orphan kinda chilling on earth#like no eunade no nothing just that#insane how it went from this simple idea to the big ass universe with multiple planets and species that it now is#i genuinely love it with my whole heart#i suppose because i pretty much grew up alongside with it#back in april 2019 (when i made the 'runaway' video) i was 14#and i made hiromi somewhere in 2017 so i was 12/13 then#and now i'm almost 21#damn#the 'runaway' universe really became a big part of my life

i think the best way i can articulate why this episode is my favorite of the whole show so far is that it was so emotionally gratifying i don't even care about the pacing issues
#like there was a scene i thought could have been cut. and i felt like it went a tiny bit too fast in some areas.#i don't actually think fizz and blitz's relationship mending was rushed or forced but ik that's an unpopular opinion.#but like..... i am a WRITER. picking apart narratives and storytelling functions is literally what i do entirely#and it is a very good skill to be able to detach yourself from the technical meta and know when to just... allow yourself to be entertained#not to say you can't ever criticize writing; or the writing of this show specifically; because it CAN struggle#(i think s2e5 had some massive tonal/pacing issues that can't really be overlooked)#but there comes a point at which you can decide to cling to nitpicks and tear the show apart#or just. accept that its a silly low stakes comedy cartoon and focus on how it makes you FEEL instead#again like s2e5 is a good example i feel bc the writing was SO underwhelming that it was actively distracting from the story#but in s2e6 i was so emotionally invested and consistently entertained that i didn't even MIND the rushed scenes or anything#like. im banging pots and pans together does this make any sense. this show is meant to be entertaining first and foremost not#subject to rutheless criticism of the writing and technical development. learn to have fun with it and if its not fun you can leave!!!#mine#helluva boss#helluva boss oops#e: oops

social media is so.... weird. for art.
#cant commit to calling it straight up bad cus like. yipeeee the knowledge of all art on earth ever at your fingertips!!!!#but also. mmn. the knowledge of all art on earth ever at your fingertips.#like when I was in highschool I had this super developed specific art style and like. I MISS that dog... I've lost that ability#I've gained like. WAY more technical skill but. basically I was like 'well its not doing good on instagram... which must mean its bad and I#should completely abandon my artistic voice that I've been developing. yipee !!' like HANK NOOOOO

Watched the four hour hbomberguy video and I just feel like it really is such a good reflection of how little writing is valued and how so many do not see it as a skill that requires work and effort to develop.
#tom talks#i have a lot of thots on this tbh#it's sometimes p frustrating#people just assume they can all write with no effort and its like bestie no thats not how any skill works are you stupid#and even within writing you can develop different kinds of writing#like i think my technical writing is p good but my creative writing is p mediocre#and that's b/c i worked to develop my technical writing and haven't really done that for my creative writing!#if you dont put the effort in you wont get good its literally that simple#sorry its just such a pet peeve of mine

never underestimate young adults.
the guy who assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand (and his wife the Duchess of Hohenberg) was 1 month shy of 20 years old.

like yeah dude it’s really cool that you used AI to complete an art piece that was purposefully left unfinished because the artist was dying of AIDS as the government ignored the mass loss of life and health. all you really did was show that technology can bring an art piece into the modern age but why? why do we need to do that? what does it say about us if we feel that a piece needs to be ‘completed’? how are we viewing completion?? can seeing an ai generated “completion” of unfinished have the same effect of seeing the parts haring left blank and the parts where the art drips into the blank? does it aid the narrative of it in any way? can AI understand the levels at which artists used their pieces about AIDS as a form of protest? of begging to be seen? how can it when an AI’s concept of ‘completing’ the piece is just guesswork of what the colours and shapes would look like to match what haring made which is nowhere near the same level of intention that came from him? you said you ‘completed’ the piece with ai because his story is so sad but does that mean we should try to rectify sadness by getting rid of the representation of it? should we not continue to sit in the sadness and discomfort that unfinished and other AIDS inspired art asks us to do because those feelings are only a fraction of what the people who died and lost felt, is that not the least we can do for them? and what good does any of this actually do when we can use technology to ‘complete’ a purposefully unfinished art piece about an artist’s untimely death from AIDS but we can never bring keith haring or any other person who died of AIDS back to life? where does haring, the person whose illness and death lives in those blanks, come into your self fulfilling ai generated completion of his work?
#like I don’t feel anything when I see it because I don’t see the depth of a man processing his own untimely death#I saw someone say this proves AI can be transgressive and like ai has nothing to do with the potential of completing a piece like that#it didn’t make any choices with significance it just filled in the blanks in a very mechanical way#blanks that haring had to think about leaving blank and what that would mean#you could have achieved that with like. human artists and in that way you could have the piece be more intentionally connected#to the original and it’s artist#you know I’m actually not even an ai isn’t real art person#because I think it gets counterproductive to draw thick lines between what is and what isn’t art#and I think elements of ai could be developed in a harmless way#but ai art as it popularly exists currently IS harmful to most artists#and just people in general#it doesn’t matter whether it’s art or not what matters is the impact it’s having#and there are a lot of bad impacts#this one isn’t the worst I just think it’s an example of how stupid people are with ai art and like#how a lot of peoples defence of ai art actually misses the point of art#because they see it in a technical skill mechanical way#it says SOOOO much that people thought this piece needed to be ‘#’completed’ and that filling in the blank would aid the message#and assumed that the blank parts didn’t hold the same if not more artistic weight#sorry for posting about discourse I saw on twitter do you still think I’m hot

#man ryan wasn't kidding no one in these AI art arguments has any interest in recognizing the incredibke technical skills of the programmers#responsible for creating the tools#like i get it these were developed over decades with huge teams#but if someone developed a pipe organ where you could press 5 keys and the organ would mechanically generate the song#you'd still be praising the organ designers

My literal favorite pastime is saying "this is why I'm getting an engineering degree" to anything trivial in nature. Successfully downloaded a game for my friend? Engineering degree. Duct taped a floppy sun visor on a car to keep it upright? Engineer degree. Solved for how many teaspoons of instant coffee can go into my mug if I use 8 oz measuring cups of water instead of 6? Engineering degree, and the reason I passed multivar calc with an A
#The best part is that yeah#technically developing critical thinking and problem solving skills is exactly why I'm getting a poor mans math degree#It's also a computer engineering degree but the disparity between the trivial nature and the difficulty of the degree is so much higher#It's so fun it's like yes! My capacity for clever solutions is the only thing my degree should ever be used for muahahaha#eye contact with the abyss#Compeng#Comp eng#Studyblr#University#Chaotic academia

my best friend forever & love of my life has been providing the most incredible input and character / plot suggestions for this story I'm working on
to the point it finally feels like it's coming together and I have a solid foundation to work with 😭
#i gotta spend the next few years developing finishing the story but also#building out my technical skills re: drawing as much as i can#because a well written graphic novel will require STRONG drawing skills and#a well thought-out style that feels timeless
