The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea, Melody's Mermaid —Aesthetic
Tumblr media
Princess Melody's Character & Personality
As part of her social anxiety, Melody is shy around attractive boys. She'll become quite flustered around a merboy named Alex, a handsome merboy who befriends her. After becoming a full mermaid, Melody matures as she slowly begins to see she's still the same person she was before. In addition, she learns life in the ocean isn’t better but merely different. Ultimately, Melody realizes what she truly wants is to be accepted for who she is rather than be a full mermaid. As such, she gained a better perception of herself and the world: finding a life of honesty and self-acceptance is the only key to her happiness. Despite this, Melody still retains her passion for the sea. She's also happy to get to know her grandfather and aunts because her heart belongs to the land as well as the ocean.

Note
Truth be told, I wish there'd been another reason for Ariel and Eric choosing to separate Melody from the sea and her heritage.
Personally, I think growing human/mermaid conflicts would've been a good idea. Ariel's given a choice ultimatum that she can either stay human or become a mermaid, by her family. Ariel makes the choice to stay human, and then becomes more estranged from the sea until she decides that mermaid/human relationships are a hopeless cause, and just decides to completely close off the mermaid part of her life.
And that's why Melody isn't allowed to go back to sea, and knows nothing about her own family. And when she goes to the sea she learns a lot about the situation, and reunites the estranged parts of her family and reconciles humans and mermaids.
I like that! Basically like the 2023 remake. It also sounds like Emily Windsnap, where the title character has to reunite her family who were separated by human-mermaid tensions.
And adding to your idea, maybe Morgana is turning humans and merpeople against each other. That could be her ultimate revenge against Triton. Maybe instead of just stealing his trident, she'd rather make him suffer by undoing the human-mermaid relations everyone worked so hard to maintain, which in turn is going to destroy Triton's own relationships.
You also got me wondering how/if Ariel would get along with other humans during a human-mermaid feud. Maybe humans fear and hate Ariel for being a mermaid. Or maybe humans are OK with Ariel because she's "one of the good ones".

Patricia: ¿Lola? ¿Lola? Ah, Abuela… ¿Has visto a Lola?
Abuelita: No la veo desde la mañana, Patricia.
*En la cocina*
Pepe: (decorando el pastel) 🎵Mmmhhh…🎵
Patricia: (entrando) Pepe… ¿Lola no está aquí? ¿Ó si?
Pepe: No, Patricia. Pero su pastel de cumpleañoscito y las pequeñas velas. C’est magnifique! Muak…! (comienza a tambalearse de la escalera) ¡Oh, oh! ¡Uh! Jejeje…
Claudio: ¡Wiiii! ¡Esta de verdad será una fiesta fabulosa! ¡Si, señor! Una parranda fuera de lo ordinario. Sólo nos falta una cosa… ¡La invitada de honor!

The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea, Morgana —Aesthetic
Tumblr media
Morgana's Character & Personality
Morgana is a cecaelia octopus who's the younger sister of Ursula. She works alongside her pet tiger shark, Undertow, as well as her two pet manta rays, Cloak and Dagger. Morgana is deceitful, baleful and ruthless. Although she isn't as talented at magic or potions as her older sister, much to her embarrassment, she's equally evil. Unfortunately, Morgana lacks her sister's subtlety and deviousness. More than anything, she hates being criticized. Morgana has a massive inferiority complex relating to her sister as she also hates being compared to her. Due to all this, she's driven to do what Ursula could not: rule the ocean to prove her superiority over her sister. Beyond this, Morgana has a funny but malicious sense of humor. She's even cannibalistic as she'll eat a plate of dead sea animals containing her own species. Morgana is arguably more evil than her sister because her plans couldn't be easily foiled by loopholes. In addition, she's more cunning as she's able to easily manipulate others with her motherly-like charm into doing her work for her.

ROUND 3A, MATCH 2 OUT OF 2!

Propaganda Under the Cut:
Melody:
Her movie sucked but her character was literally SO good. I love her so much. Just look at her goooo
The daughter of Ariel, Melody begins the story as a literal fish out of water. Though she's half mermaid she is forbidden from being in the sea, and is kept from the knowledge of her origins. Though she believes herself to be human all she wants is to be in the water. -She sneaks out where she is forbidden to go -Her parent finds out and the have an argument -She runs away and gets a human/mermaid transformation with the help of a sea witch
It's like Ariel's story in reverse where she's not allowed to go to the sea so she makes a deal with Ursula's sister (that we didn't know existed lmao) to become a mermaid. I remember liking the movie as a kid.
i think she counts as a little mermaid in her own right. her story is a fantastic mirror of ariel's.
The Little Mermaid:
It’s a s story with the ending left with two interpretations- one of the fish and one of the humans. I think it’s really creative and also just immensely beautiful.
She is tender and tragic. She danced for the prince, even though it hurt a lot. She actually loves her sisters. When the prince fell in love with another woman, she was given a way out by her sisters: she could kill the prince by causing a storm. But she refused and basically sacrificed herself, turning into sea foam, just like in the original. Her character design resembles a fairy, so she actually looks like a creature from another reality, not a human.
An absolutely gorgeous take on the original story. The visuals are just so utterly captivating and I love the way the little mermaid is voiced as well. Just so well done.
