Alright, jumping on the bandwagon...
AGSZC + Turks & Rufus
Do they know what a tampon actually looks like andor how one is used?
Zack, that's not candy—!!!
tbh im asking this only because i suddenly remembered a post where people were talking about tampons & how boys at their school would flinch away from them & some threw one & they scattered like bugs at just the idea a packaged tampon would touch them like r u srs
also someone said some boys at their school just? didn't even know? what they looked like? at. all. they thought a novelty pen thing was an actual tampon & were doing that 'tryina be funny' thing where it's 1 pt. taunting 1 pt. laughing at their own jokes which reminded me too much of my school & wow memories of stupid in need of repression ow
also also tbh it all reminded me of an old commercial where the male teacher confiscates (?) a girls tampon an is like 'hope you brought enough for the class' to which she replies 'enough for the girls' & every male you can see is confused as fuck which seems like it wouldn't but does actually, sadly track
and that's why you got this ask. 🎉
*Zack is digging inside Angeal's desk like a raccoon in a trash can, then he triumphantly pulls out a colorful box*
Zack: Sweet! What flavor are these? Can I have one?
Angeal: .....
Zack: ? :)
*Angeal places a hand on Zack's forehead. Maybe he has a fever. Maybe—somewhere, somehow—this is the result of brain damage No fever. This is just how Zack is*
Angeal: Zack. Those are tampons.
Zack: Huh?? You mean for, like, periods and stuff? Why do you have these? And why do they look like candy?
Angeal: I keep them on hand in case someone needs them. And they do not look like candy.
*Zack pulls out a bright blue wrapped tampon*
Zack: Could've fooled me.
*Genesis strolls in*
Genesis: Those look delicious. What flavor are they?
Angeal: What the fuck were you guys doing in health class?? They're tampons.
Genesis, recoiling, scandalized: Goddess, is that what they are? I could've sworn they were a delicacy.
Angeal: You two give small-town country boys a bad name. Sephiroth, at his grown age, knows better.
*Right on cue, Sephiroth walks in*
Sephiroth: Why do you have menstrual products?
Angeal: Aha! See? Maturity. Intelligence. Common sense—
*He stops mid-sentence as Sephiroth pulls a condom from his drawer and starts unwrapping it*
Angeal:
Sephiroth: This is bubblegum, yes?
(Meanwhile, in an entirely separate tragedy unfolding elsewhere)
Cissnei: Hey, do you have a tampon?
Shotgun: Yeah, here.
*Just as she hands it to her, Reno walks by and snatches it*
Reno: Ha! Too slow! You snooze, you lose!
*He unwraps it confidently and takes a bite*
Cissnei:
Shotgun:
Reno, chewing: This is not a marshmallow.

for the character ask game! if you haven't gotten him already, how about tseng?
I HAVEN'T GOTTEN HIM
THANK YOU
TSENG MY LOVE
(this ask game)
How I feel about this character
i cannot explain how rabid he makes me. he's a stoic badass in a black suit, he's the guy pulling the strings, he's the super-slick corpo type BUT WITH LONG HAIR, and and and HE'S FUCKING CHINESE. i mean "wutaian" whatever but his name is tseng he is clearly chinese. i almost achieved orbit when i saw him.
All the people I ship romantically with this character
VINCENT VINCENT VINCENT VINCENT VINCENT
i have this whole web of headcanon involving tseng having heard all these stories about vincent valentine from veld, and thus growing up idolizing and hero-worshipping him (yes growing up tseng was a turk at 14) and basically being a secret vincent fangirl (and also it doesn't hurt that in all his file photos he looks like vincent looks). then finding out he's alive and meeting him but as enemies from a distance (cause hell yeah hot), and then they trade gunshots as flirting for a while and are all stoic and awkward about it and it goes on from there
reeve: i think their personalities are wildly different but different doesn't necessarily mean incompatible. i think tseng would admire reeve's brains and abilities because reeve is extremely competent and incredibly intelligent (despite the robot cat and the scottish accent) and i think tseng has a secret soft spot for adorable disasters. i bet he even smiled once (in the dark at home alone so no one will ever know) thinking about something reeve did. also tseng and reeve are both morally ambiguous/conflicted people and they have both seen some shit. they have a lot in common. i'd like to see tseng be reeve's hyper-competent right hand man/bodyguard rather than rufus. i don't think he'd baby reeve or be all that nurturing because i find nurturing/babying stuff to be boring and gross, and because reeve is a grown man and the idea is insulting to him, but i do think tseng might encourage the housekeeper to "misplace" reeve's work laptop once in a while, or he might accompany reeve to a corporate conference in costa del sol that gets mysteriously cancelled once they're already there and have the hotel booked for five days still
rufus. i'd like to see him dom the shit out of rufus and in fact i am currently writing a story in which he does that very thing, with cloud participating (as a hired professional). it's not romantic but it is highly sexual. which is how i think they'd be, realistically.
aerith. amazing personality dynamic, fucked up power dynamic, ambiguous stalker/protector tension, sexy assassin daddy vibes, enough of an age gap to be hot, and he clearly loves her. whether it's paternal or fraternal or romantic is up to interpretation but it's not even ambiguous in the games. he does love her. it's canon fact.
and pretty much everyone else except elena and cissnei for smut. tseng and reno casually fucking would be both hilarious and hot. i think tseng and barret would be SO hot but i can't stand barret so he'd have to have a shut-the-fuck-up curse on him or something. tseng and zack where they're both awkward and inexperienced but too embarrassed to admit it during the time frame of crisis core would be SO ADORABLE. tseng and veld mentor/student thing sexy and also sad. i will just keep going so i better stop here
My non-romantic OTP for this character
zack. i love their friendship so goddamned much. i can't even. Y'ALL HE KEPT THE LETTERS
HE
KEPT
THE
FUCKING
LETTERS
My unpopular opinion about this character
he is covered in tattoos from neck to wrists under that starched-ass white shirt and slick black tie.
he smokes but no one knows it and no one ever will.
he has a good relationship with his mother.
he speaks wutaian fluently but doesn't identify as culturally wutaian because he wasn't raised there
he's pan-demi-sexual a little on the ace side of the spectrum
his hair smells like an agarwood-oil based shampoo that he flies to wutai to purchase because he can't have it legally imported and they don't make it anywhere else
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
i wish he'd have SENT THE FUCKING TURKS OUT FASTER
THANK YOU FOR THE ASK FRIEND! I WILL BE REVENGED! 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤

A little Lumi and Hollander plot I keep rotating in my brain like all the time is one of the first scenarios where Lumi realized she has feelings for him
Hollander goes off on a mission with some SOLDIERs; standard stupid stuff, he tells her. But he gets a free hotel and meals so whatever. Sometimes there's decent sightseeing, depending on wherever you're sent to. He's going to pick up some monster samples to test for research; SOLDIER does the dirty work; Hollander pokes around before the bodies return to the planet.
After going on the mission, he keeps in touch with her for several days until, one evening, he hasn't responded. Lumi understands he may have fallen asleep, so she doesn't hound him.
The next day, during work in the Shinra Lounge Coffee Shop, she's approached by a Turk known as Cissnei; her stomach drops. Have her conversations with Hollander about their anti-Shinra rhetoric come to light? She maintains her composure until Cissnei tells her:
'Miss Ucello, you were found in Doctor Hollander's phone as an emergency contact. There's been an incident.'
Emergency contact? Incident?
Lumi listens as Cissnei pulls her aside.
Anti-Shinra rebels had intercepted the mission data and found where Hollander and the SOLDIERs were stationed. During the night their rooms were ambushed.
Hollander was in critical condition. They'd already used multiple healing spells on him just to keep him going until they could get him back to Midgar.
Lumi listens, feeling the familiar emotion of fear - the chalk white that ran through her veins that she remembered during her time under Corneo's thumb. She thought she'd lost this emotion.
But Cissnei can see it. She tells Lumi the helicopter will be arriving and landing shortly, and she offers for her to be there as it does. Lumi immediately agrees to go, hangs up her apron and rushes off with Cissnei.
As the helicopter comes into view and lands, Lumi feels sick. Her hands have been wringing together the way they used to every morning down in the slums, awaiting the fresh horrors of the day.
A crew wheels Hollander out on a stretcher, hooked up to as many wires as possible for the stretcher. He looks unrecognizable, bruised and wearing ripped clothing still stained in blood. Lumi isn't fazed by the bloodied visage - but she is fazed by the fact that it's her only friend.
She stands next to Cissnei, her mind screaming to see him, but she can't stop them from wheeling him to be treated. She barely registers another Turk, Rude, approaching Cissnei.
'It's fifty/fifty,' Rude says. 'His ribs were already broken before they could do CPR.'
Lumi hears a 'hmm' from Cissnei.
It's unconcerned. Lumi knows Hollander's reputation. She looks to Cissnei, holding back tears in her olive eyes and thanks her. She asks if she can be notified once he is cleared for visitors. Cissnei nods.
Lumi, doing her best to not tremble, thanks them and... leaves. She staggers back to the coffee shop, her mind racing until she tells herself she has a job to do and no one wants to see her cry. Old habits kick in and she shuts down, going back to her duties in the coffee shop. She finishes her shift, gets her things and then...
What next? She clocks out, thinks about going home and...
She runs to the bathroom to lock herself inside and fall to the floor sobbing. It's the first time she's cried since well before coming topside. She's feels like she's dying. She sounds like it too. She's in there for what feels like an eternity, trying to process what she's feeling.
She receives a call. She looks at the phone - it's been two hours since the end of her shift. At least six hours since Hollander was brought back.
The person calling her is Cissnei.
'He's out of surgery. You can visit him for a while, if you'd like'
Lumi's voice clears, free of emotion. 'Thank you.'
Lumi is escorted to the infirmary. She is brought to his room, where, once the door closes, her composure shakes. She approaches her friend, asleep, covered in wires, hooked up to IVs, his big mouth full of stupidity is blocked by a breathing tube. Lumi walks over, barely feeling in control of her feet, and she sits in a provided uncomfortable chair next to the bed. She listens to the machines in place of his voice. Her hands grip the checkered fabric of her pants before she reaches out to touch his bruised hand. Her fingers brush the hospital bracelet on his wrist.
'You can't leave me yet, you idiot,' her words are barely a whisper. 'We've got too much to do.'
Too much to do together.
She reluctantly leaves when time is up. She has no choice but to go home. She doesn't eat, she barely sleeps.
The night seeps into the morning; she blearily gets up for work, her mind and body still wracked from fear. She goes into work, where everyone can tell she's just a little off... but she still works efficiently. Her breaks and time after work are spent sitting and dissociating or visiting Hollander. Her full day off is spent only being able to see him for an hour. Otherwise she lingers around town, aimlessly going from place to place, sitting at cafes, or on street benches. She holds onto her phone like a lifeline, just in case.
It's easy to be alone. She thought she'd done well to remain distant; but once again she's proven wrong. She has no photos to look at; but she does have voice messages. She listens to to old clips of him telling her where he'll be waiting for her when they've met for drinks. She's spiralling... but differently.
Days pass; she goes to work. She goes to see him. His bruises are slowly changing. She feels hopeful.
One day after work, she sees a missed call - under his name. No voicemail.
She calls him back, hopeful, feeling every second that the phone rings crawl by until-
A click on the other end.
'Hey,' his voice is raspy and faded, but it's him. 'It's been a while.'
Lumi blurts out his name of 'Silas' before she can control herself. 'Oh my god how are you feeling?!'
'Well... bad. But-' he makes a sound as he tries to get comfortable. 'I suppose I could be dead. That would put a damper on things.'
For the first time in almost a week, Lumi laughs; its soft and relieved; but the best laugh of her life so far.
'I'll be right up-'
'No, no,' Hollander insists. 'I've got doctors all around me now that I'm awake. We won't get any time to talk. I just wanted to check in with you.'
Lumi closes her eyes in relief. 'I had a Turk come to get me because you put me down as your emergency contact. Do you know I almost shit myself seeing that? You could have warned me, you know.'
The broken, but real laugh on the other end caused her to smile.
'Ahh, but where's the fun in that?'
Lumi shook her head as she heard doctors murmur. 'Get some rest, jackass.'
'I missed you too, bitch.'
Lumi wipes the tears of both relief and happiness from her cheek.
'I missed you too. I'll bring you some coffee tomorrow.'
'... I'd like that. Go rest, Lumi.'
'I will. You too.'
She ends the call, looking at his caller information on her phone. She lets out a shuddering breath before holding her phone to her chest.
Dammit.
Dammit.
Goddamn it all.
She loved him.

Cloud's memories
*spoilers for FF7 Rebirth and other FF7 stuff*
So something I see is this debate regarding Cloud's memories of being Zack. Are those actually Zack's memories that he absorbed or did Cloud make them up?
There's several points to be made in either argument.
Let's go through them.
(Also if I miss something then comment it!)
Okay...
So let's start with the accuracy of these memories. Well outside of the elephant Cloud in the room. What I mean is are the events and conversations taking place one for one comparisons? Especially for the stuff Infantryman Cloud wasn't there for.
Comparing FF7 OG with Crisis Core, most of the scenes are same or similar. Even the memories real Cloud wasn't present for are accurate-
With only one glaring difference. Genesis.
Even back when we first get to Nibelheim, Zack gets an extra line when Sephiroth walks off with Zack saying "Sephiroth's mother's name is Jenova? Hmm...?" to himself. He has this line because Zack already has heard this name earlier in the game due to this Genesis plot when in the OG, 'Cloud' had never heard of Jenova.
And then later on, Genesis shows up in the Reactor and straight up just tells Sephiroth about the stuff in the Shinra Manor.
This is something that isn't in 'Cloud's' version.
While the irl reason why 'Cloud' doesn't is because Genesis didn't exist. He was created for Crisis Core.
But we want an in-universe reason!
What's interesting is that in Rebirth, the valve thing requires you to leave the room and when you come back in Sephiroth is all angry and it feels like that a scene was kinda missing, which vaguely implies that the Genesis happened.
So overall these memories are fairly accurate with one or two glaring exceptions.
That's the evidence from the Nibelheim incident.
So let's go into some of the big arguments for either side.
-Did Zack tell Cloud about these events?
Most people who don't think that Cloud has Zack's memories say that Zack probably told Cloud and skipped over the Genesis stuff. I can't deny that with them being on the road for a year that Zack probably rambled to the mako comatosed Cloud. Zack talks a lot in general. Zack could of also have talked to Cloud during the week Sephiroth spent in the library.
But would Zack actually do that?
Yeah he talks a lot, but in Crisis Core, despite being a pretty open person, by Nibelheim Zack is little more careful.
Remember he tries to stop Genesis from telling Sephiroth about Jenova. He's supposed to be friendly to Sephiroth and is like a friend, but kept his own suspicion, deductions, and information from Sephiroth. And he was right to because well... Sephiroth did go insane.
Also when he sees Cissnei after Nibelheim he's guarded and doesn't explain what happened to him beyond the bare minimum.
Angeal's death, the Nibelheim incident, being experimented with Cloud by Hojo, and other traumatic events seem to eat Zack tends to deal with internally. Outside of crying at Aerith's Church, he doesn't seem to cope very well with what's happened.
Like when Zack has his talk with Cloud at Nibelheim. That's the probably the closest we see Zack actually talking about his issues.
"I'm sensing some issues here…shouldn't you do something? I'm one to talk… I'm with SOLDIER, so… …fighting's all I do. Sorting things out is someone else's job. What's going on? Who's the enemy? It makes no difference to me!"
And Cloud snaps Zack out of his moment of anger with accidentally reminding him of Angeal.
Zack does 'dreams and honour trademark' before saying thanks to Cloud and going to sleep, leaving Cloud very confused. He doesn't really understand what Zack means about SOLDIER being a den of monsters either. Zack doesn't really explain it.
And as for Zack telling him on their year on the run to Midgar...
I also doubt. Zack talks about Aerith and becoming a mercenary and all that, but the way he talks about it isn't very... deep? Like this isn't Zack pouring his heart out to Cloud. He's just treating this as normally as possible and trying to be upbeat.
Also I kinda doubt how much Cloud was actually aware during being all mako overdosed. Like he was gaining awareness and able to move only after a year. Maybe if Zack talked about the Nibelheim incident, mako comatosed Cloud on a subconscious level could be listening to Zack and develop the narrative in his head of what happened to Zack, but I'm not sure about it.
Moving on!
-Cloud and Tifa.
When Cloud got to Midgar he was... empty for lack of a better word. He acted a lot like a Sephiroth Clone with the groaning and such (look at Ever Crisis or OG FF7 scene if you don't know what I'm going on about).
But when Tifa ran into him, he was able to remember being Cloud and his mind frantically created his persona.
In FF7 OG Sephiroth at the Northern Crater mixed lies and truth together to break Cloud. One thing that stood out to me was that he claimed that he only thought he was Cloud because of his Jenova Cells being shaped by Tifa's memories of Cloud.
And I think that's true to a degree. If Tifa never found Cloud by the train station, I don't think he would of been able to snap out of it and remember being Cloud.
And in Rebrith Sephiroth keeps going on about Jenova's abilities and how she can become anyone. Add that with what Ilfana says in the OG about how Jenova could take the form of the Cetra's deceased and loved ones-
And I think that Cloud, or at least his persona was influenced by Tifa. She remembered Cloud as a loner that was happy by himself and started fights that wanted to be a SOLDIER and promised to protect her, and so that became a big part of his SOLDIER persona.
So why couldn't Cloud absorb or be influenced by Zack. Maybe the reason he doesn't remember Genesis if he has Zack's memories is because it doesn't fit the narrative Cloud has created therefore, it's just cut out.
...
Also I didn't know where to fit this in, but when we get to Gongaga in Rebirth, Cloud gets dejavu. It reminds me of Sephiroth getting dejavu in Nibelheim.
...
Okay I will admit I am bias in this argument (I believe that Cloud absorbed Zack's memories. I find Cloud copying Zack's mannerisms, words and other things to be too close to be a coincidence).
So if you have a great argument on the other point of the argument then please tell me. I am genuinely curious to hear other's perspectives on this.

i do nooooooot have the energy to write a whole fic but i'm having aerith/cissnei brainthoughts so come along with me
> the whole thing starts with this scene i have in my head of zack and cissnei at costa del sol 👍 (NOTE: i don't really see zack and cissnei as being romantically involved with each other, but they have the same girlfriend and that gives them a warriors bond)
they're both in their swimsuits Chillen and talking but cissnei's sitting with her knees to her chest trying to subtly cover herself up a bit and she keeps looking at zack's top surgery scars. zack gets to make a "my eyes are up here" joke and cissnei gets a little embarrassed because she wasn't looking at him like That but zack laughs it off. she asks when he got them done and zack explains it was a few years ago now ("that's so young!" "does shinra care?" "well...").
she still looks a bit uncomfortable, so zack offers her his shirt from his bag. she gives him a deadpan look and he says he doesn't mean it like That, just that she doesn't look comfortable. she accepts the shirt and throws it on, explaining after that she DOES like the swimsuit she got, she just feels... and she trails off. zack continues, that you aren't allowed? cissnei looks a bit shocked and he laughs again, saying it took him a long time to feel comfortable taking his shirt off around other people too. just goes to show! anybody can feel nervous about stuff like that. cissnei feels a bit more comfortable now so she relaxes and lets her legs down. zack mentions aerith, ("actually, have you guys already met?" "no, i only know Of her, watching her has been tseng's job.") and that she might be able to help more than he could. he texts aerith to let her know he wants to introduce them, and aerith is very excited<3
> next time zack is in midgar, he brings cissnei below the plate with him to go meet aerith!
i like to imagine cissnei gets wrapped around aerith's finger pretty immediately LOL. aerith is such a little shit and a flirt, and she's got that captivating air about her that makes you wanna keep listening. cissnei is PUTTY.
i'm leaning towards the idea of zack and cissnei coming down in uniform? as much as i love my scene zack, i think aerith seeing cissnei all done up in her suit first is cute<3 she can call her dashing. and then getting to see her in her civvies becomes more soft and intimate. (note: i'm kind of on the idea that cissnei is a bit of a baby butch?? particularly i think her in like a baseball cap and a big shirt with cargo shorts is fun. like her and zack have similar fashion tastes, zack is just more alternative. the two of them wearing the same outfit just in different colors and accessories makes me laugh 😭)
later, aerith asks if zack minds that she was flirting and zack says "are you kidding? two of my favorite people getting along, what's to complain about?" aerith smiles and replies "good! then i won't complain about your little blonde friend!" and zack stumbles over his ass. I'M STRAIGHT. I AM STRAIGHT. (note: don't flirt with other people without asking/telling your partner first in real life 👍)
> jumping ahead a bit, when zack and cloud get captured, cissnei completely disengages from aerith without saying anything. i'm not sure how much the turks, but cissnei in particular, were clued in to what was going on with them Upfront, so i'm imagining cissnei does the digging herself. she finds some maybe some lab results from the experiments, gathering that SAMPLE S-Z can only be one person. there's nothing she can really do to get him out though, and she feels too ashamed to go back to aerith without good news, so she hides away, avoiding any job that could put them within proximity. aerith tries to ask tseng about her, but it's like talking to a brick wall. aerith of course is heartbroken even further, having lost TWO people here. maybe she writes letters to cissnei as well? switching off between the two of them? tseng collects them both and he Does deliver them to cissnei, but i'm not sure if she reads them. she does keep them, regardless.
> after zack escapes, cissnei still finds zack again. zack would be more immediately concerned about aerith, asking if she's okay, and cissnei stops him from asking a million questions, telling him she hasn't seen her either. zack is confused and asks why, and she tries to explain, saying she was ashamed she couldn't help, that she was part of the group doing this, that she still is, and what aerith would think of her. here, i think she would pull out her shuriken and fling it at him, saying she HAS to bring him back with her. zack slashes it away with buster and threatens her when she comes toward him. he does sympathize with her, he was following orders all the same before this had happened, but right now he needs to focus on getting him and cloud out of here. when cissnei follows zack back to cloud, i imagine it goes pretty much the same.
> the gongaga scene i think would be. a bit less jovial than it originally is. i don't know Exactly where zack was planning on heading ultimately, since he doesn't get aerith's final letter until banora, but i'm just gonna say he was heading to aerith anyway, and the letter only reassured his efforts with the idea that aerith had been waiting for him. so, he's still upset that cissnei left aerith behind intentionally, when he had no say in himself leaving her in the dark. cissnei reiterates that she COULDN'T see aerith again, not when she couldn't do anything to help, to protect zack. this strikes him, not having felt like he needed to be Protected since angeal. this is where cissnei tells him it was pretty dumb to come to gongaga, and the exchange goes mostly as normal, just a bit Less cheeky. zack requests cissnei keep him parents company, giving her a way to protect him in a sense. she agrees, and lets him go, still with the time limit.
> cissnei still gets tasked with taking zack back alive. i'm not sure what the turks want with zack, if shinra wants him dead i can't imagine it's to bring him back for hojo, but given the turmoil we see on cissnei's face when tseng tells her, i can't imagine it's good. she still follows the order though, the hope of keeping zack alive maybe outweighing the negatives, in her mind.
i picture reno and rude finding him first, since they're the last ones we see before the big fight happens. rude catches sight of all the blood and broken helmets and weapons first, followed soon by reno, grimacing and simply saying "shit." rude tells cissnei they found him, and the coordinates, and then him and reno land and survey the damage.
when cissnei gets the message, she flies over as quickly as she can. she similarly sees all the carnage and the dread quickly sets in. she sees where reno and rude are standing, their backs to her as they cover something awfully zack shaped on the ground.
as soon as she lands, she runs over and reno tries to hold her back from seeing, but she pushes past him to find zack's torn, shot to hell, bloody uniform empty on the dirt.
(when we see zack get pulled up to heaven, i imagine that was him being taken by the lifestream, which means his body should theoretically be gone by the time the turks find him, if i'm understanding the lifestream correctly)
she almost can't believe it, wanting to ask "where is he?" but she can't form words. i think she's still, for a moment, just looking in silence at how damaged everything is. she drops to her knees, hitting a patch of bloodied dirt, and searches the collar of the shirt for his dogtags. reno makes a sound of protest (they need those?!), but rude silences him. this is where she sees zack had been wearing angeal's tags too, and this is what snaps everything together. she snaps, crying and wailing, her free hand tugging her hair until rude kneels down to give her a hug and allow her to clutch his suit, still keeping the dogtags fiercely in her grip. reno rubs her back until she's calmed down.
she wipes her eyes and stands up with rude, clutching his arm and staring dead into his eyes through his sunglasses, demanding that she's going to gongaga, and he's coming with her so he can take her helicopter back. rude sputters, and reno says they can't do that, they can't just not bring cissnei back, and cissnei says she doesn't care. she has a promise to keep. exchanging glances, reno and rude concede, and they drop her off in gongaga.
> conceptually, i think the idea of avalanche meeting cissnei in gongaga is incredibly interesting!!!! it has the potential to create a LOT of gaps in the canon of the original game though, but so does cissnei knowing aerith personally, so. i'm fucking with shit a bit here. you'll forgive me.
i imagine when cissnei ambushes (?) them outside the town, she first sees cloud, how can you miss that dumb hair? she's shocked but happy to see he's still alive, but then she brings her gaze to the rest of the crew and she catches aerith.
aerith is too stunned for words. she'd already been anticipating the trip to gongaga would be rough, she knew this was zack's hometown, but she was in no way prepared to find CISSNEI of all people here.
cissnei quickly puts her wall up however, the stony turk exterior trying to block out the awful look aerith gives her when she ignores her in favor of showing them around town. she still offers her house as a place for the crew to rest, and aerith harshly tells cissnei how kind she is, and shuts herself in the guest bedroom.
cissnei feels hurt, of course, but she tries to ignore it by starting dinner.
EVERYONE can tell something is up with aerith, and tifa and cloud in particular exchange looks and then go to investigate. tifa goes to aerith, and cloud to cissnei, since she appeared to recognize him as well.
tifa tries to talk to her, but aerith hardly budges. "we used to see each other, it's a bit awkward is all," she says, but tifa can tell it's not just that. aerith says she'd like to be alone though, so she leaves her be, uneasy.
cloud is more harsh, asking upfront what cissnei did to aerith. cissnei tries to brush him off, but he's insistent, he can't leave aerith feeling like this.
cissnei does not explain herself to cloud, he has no right to her business, but seeing so many people at aerith's defense was really putting how much she had failed the two of them right in her face.
she enters the guest room and aerith says "tifa, i appreciate it, but i really want to- oh."
the two stand is silence before aerith huffs, "really? that's it? nothing?"
cissnei never was good at resisting aerith for very long, she apologizes profusely, and she tries to explain all what happened, she's crying and choking on words, and slowly aerith loses some of her anger.
i'm like SUPER hesitant to say cissnei tells her zack died, i think it ruins the flow of the story and i do stand by that, but. HOW CAN SHE NOT. she has to. this is fake and not real it's okay.
aerith can's say she's terribly surprised to find out, but that doesn't make it hurt any less. cissnei tells her she tried to help, she tried to get there first, she really did, but they were too late. she's so sorry. the two of them are both crying now, and aerith looks up at her from where she's sitting on the bed, and she lifts her arms to beckon a hug. cissnei runs into her arms and they cry together.
aerith doesn't forgive cissnei entirely, she thinks that was a stupid reason to leave her completely blind, and she's still angry, but at the same time cissnei is HERE. she can't take that for granted. cissnei promises she'll never do anything like that again. aerith accepts that. they kiss<3
> uuuyyyhhhyuyhh yea tifa and cloud gotta tell cissnei aerith died. getting aerith back and then having her taken away so swiftly again pisses her off. she's terribly sad as well, how could she not be, but she's also furious. MAYBE SHE JOINS AVALANCHE HERE. FUCK IT ALL.
and yea my phone is dying ok that's all i have for you now 👍

serious question. Why do some cts try to interpret c /a scenes as ""romantic"" or ""what could have been if she didn't die"" or ""didn't explore/didn't develop"" or "a bud that never got to grow"" or ""bro code made him stop any sort of attraction"" etc. Like it's so sope opera just to add to them jerking off to how tragic she is. Does cissnei get the same treatment? Is it because our guy got survivor's guilt? He reacted to her death similar to Zack, is it because she's a girl? Is he into Zack?
I don't understand. I really don't. Especially ct who do. Is it because you pity her? How about your ship? You deliberately Water Down and Disrespect cloud's rights and decision. His obvious signs of Only Disinterest since Remake. Even best dress is actually him just being Rude if you keep in mind his reaction to Worst dress. Nothing changed in Rebirth. He's just being a nice Friend. And he was already pushing her away before the Zack bit.
Why do ct think it's fine? Do you think his love for tifa is that weak and irreplaceable? Do you think cloud cannot understand what he actually feels and is conflicted? Do you agree that it was sephiroth who cleared out the illusionary ltd? Because there's no other choice? Because saying the stuff I've said above is agreeing that it was sephiroth killing her instead of him just Loving Tifa ONLY. NEVER WAVERED, NOT A BUDGE.
I think some cts are just shallow shippers. You like aerith? You feel bad for her? Then be glad she got rejected and root for her to realize she never even liked him. If you really like cloud, instead of questioning him and making up delulu what ifs to speak of non existent "tragedy", why not celebrate the canonical meaning that he's that in love with Tifa and was Never into anybody else. Even at the face of someone who kept chasing after him. Unlike their take, In this one Tifa gets something she deserves. Because Tifa deserves a man who loves her like how she loves him. Unwavering and Uncontested ALWAYS. It's not because Tifa exists that it will Never happen, it's because he's just not into her in any circumstances. Aerith's one-sided attraction was Never reciprocated.
So why, why do some ct do this SHIT. It benefits only her and spits and tramples on Zack, Tifa and Cloud. Drop it? And it ascends All of them. SO DROP IT AND DOUBLE DOWN ON CANON.
Because they're either doormats who've been trodden down to agree with that shit or they're dumdums in disguise.
No proper cloti ever agrees with that bullshit interpretation because there's literally no proof of it. Clotis deal in facts, not fiction.

FF7 R&R: I have completed all world intel for and am about to depart Cosmo Canyon at (what I assume is) the end of Chapter 10 of Rebirth.
Hoo boy, this game just keeps on going, doesn't it? My hope was to finish it this "weekend" (Wed/Thu are my days off), but man, I dunno. I've got 65 hours in this thing already and, what, four more chapters to go? I'm guessing one more big region around Nibelheim (the moogle in CC said there was one more moogle store, so that would track) and then we enter a kind of endgame phase, but we'll see. But they're already talking about heading to Temple of the Ancients, and I imagine that whole bit will take a couple of chapters, so I'm still guessing this entry will end around where Disc 1 of the original did.
As a whole, so far, I'm enjoying myself overall, but I have 2 complaints that keep it from being a total 10/10:
1) The minigames are just getting out of hand at this point. The second and third chocobo flying courses took FOREVER to even clear just the basic rank (fuck trying to S-tier that, although I did do it on the first one cos I wanted the weapon for Yuffie). And then there's the whole battle robots thing, which is like basically Fort Condor, but a different shape and somehow more complicated (I don't really understand how the "programming" part works because I don't care at this point). I see what you're trying to do, but... damn, chill. How deep are we in this thing and you're still throwing new stuff at me? Focus on a few good ones. Like Queensblood. That rules.
2) The first few regions weren't that bad, but both Gongaga and Cosmo Canyon were a fucking NIGHTMARE to navigate in an "okay, I know where I have to go, but have no idea how to get there" kind of way. Like the sort of thing where I'm poking around for 20 minutes and getting irritated so I just look up a guide so I can finally check this box off my list and move on. I like the complexity of the level design, I think it's just some of the open-world tendencies fighting that. Either let me discover things, or give me tools to help me figure out how to access your data points without getting lost and pissed off about it. The game is long enough already.
Other than that, though, I'm still very much into it.
Okay, so the Gongaga sequence was fun. I like how we did a boys' trip/girls' trip split for the journey to the reactor. Scarlett remains an absolute bitch. (Please tell me they're gonna keep the slap fight between her and Tifa in part 3--I wanna see how they update that).
Tifa falling into the lifestream was an interesting moment that I'm 95% sure didn't happen in the original. But I like the follow through they do with that when she meets with the planetologists in Cosmo Canyon and has her little "sharing circle" moment about it. You can tell that experience changed something for her. Made the whole quest more personally spiritual. Like she's been witness to a lot of fucked up shit by this point in her life, but now there's some deeper connection to the bigger picture of it all. And even before Cosmo Canyon, you get a sense of her processing that in the scene she has with Cloud after she wakes up.
I'm also interested by the apparent dueling whispers that really kind of hit home in that bit--they're fighting within the soul of the planet. And Sephiroth seems to be associated with the black ones, which are the ones trying to maintain the original story track, it seems like. The lighter ones are the ones that saved Biggs and Zack in the alternate timeline, so what's the significance of that? CAN the story actually be changed, or are they just baiting me? I don't know. What's the significance of Aerith feeling Zack's hand in the water on the way to the Gi Village? What's the relationship between these timelines, exactly? Is one of them a dream? Which one? These are the questions I'm asking myself at this point.
We got a little more of Cissnei--the party found out she's basically still a Turk (which Cait/Reeve obviously already knew), but she's on our side. Chadley's apparent crush on her is kind of cute, also.
And then there's Cid. And I love the way he's characterized in the one encounter I've had with him so far. Seeing the Tiny Bronco gave me some feels, NGL. But like... are we gonna do Rocket Town? At first, I thought he was going to join the party right there and they were going to elide that bit, but that didn't happen, so we still might. (I'm curious to see how Shera is characterized, if we do.)
What's Hojo doing to Roche? Obviously something Jenova related, but like... that doesn't bode well.
I love Nanaki breaking into his real voice as soon as he sees people from home (and Tifa being weirded out by how old he actually is). Bugenhagen's lab was fucking sweet--I wanna hang out there. But also... okay, I'm gonna admit something here. I never realized he was riding around on a floating materia. I always thought he just had a big ass and no legs and could fly for no adequately explained reason. PS1 graphics, okay? So this version makes a lot more sense. And I like that he's initially so dismissive of the party (Tifa in particular) but then--without having to be confronted about it--comes around and admits he was wrong.
The River of Lights scene was sweet. Aerith's whole speech and everything.
Okay, so the Gi Cave was cool, but the expanded explanation of who the Gi are and what they want is fascinating. Gi Nattak talks! (Also, definitely tried the Phoenix Down trick on him and it didn't work--but the vending machine right before him gives you a discounted Phoenix Down, so they knew I was gonna try). But okay--their whole connection to the Black Materia I don't remember from the original (either it wasn't there, or wasn't explained very much, I don't think), but I buy it. It does raise the question for me, though, if they didn't come from the lifestream, where DID they come from? Are they alien, like Jenova? Interdimensional like Gilgamesh? What's the deal there?
Speaking of Gilgamesh... man, I'm really curious what that's building to. Cos it's a game-long arc, apparently. And it's just... odd.
I have lots of random notes, moments that stood out from this section, but I'm focusing more on the bigger picture here. But yeah, closing in on it--we'll see how far I get tomorrow.
Then it's time to dip back into Elden Ring and work my way toward the DLC (which I hear is absofuckinglutely brutal and I'm excited to be basically dominated by it).

Well, last night I finally finished Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. I clocked it at 130 hours and 5 minutes.
Boy, that game was something. I loved it, it constantly frustrated me, but in a good way. There's so much to say, so here are some random spoilery thoughts:
It's so awkward to think about how the game clearly had some established points for beginning -The Nibelheim flashback- and ending -Forgotten Capital and Aerith's death-, but also, it was dealing with what was essentially the middle chapter of the game, and it's odd because in classic JRPG -and old Final Fantasy fashion-, almost everything that's in between is less a well defined and cohesive plot, and more a collection of moments and scenes and quests belonging to disparate narratives, both personal for each character and overarching. So turning the hunt for Sephiroth into a going from point A to B and so forth in a more linear way, at the same time that the game opens each area in an modern open world way, was interesting. I'm not completely sure it managed to do that in a seemless way, but it certainly tried.
In that sense the game its worse put together than Remake, in a plot structure way. The fact that the first game in this new trilogy stayed just in Midgard, and was the most narratively straightforward part of the game's story, mean it had an easier job in how it presented that, and what parts the game could update and enhance -even with the padding of random quests that the first game had-. But now, Rebirth decided to take that other way I mentioned in the previous point, while also taking notes from Breath of the Wild, Monster Hunter and Yakuza, among many other modern influences, in the ways it presented it's world and locations, and also, in the way it gamefied every possible interaction and tried to maintain a semblance of the structure of the original while also trying to cash in on modern gaming trends.
On that note, the original FF7 had its fair share of minigames, but now, there's not a single thing that Squared didn't opted to turn into it's own thing. Why picking up mushrooms in Gongaga to help Cissnei make a special stew when you could have a minigame to pluck those mushrooms in the correct way in order to enhance the flavour? Sometimes it was a lot, way too much stuff to do and its where most of the padding on the game comes from. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing -although it's clear that not all minigames are created equal, for every amazing thing like Queen's Blood, you got some clumsy different minigame like the mushrooms one- but your mileage might vary according to how invested and attached you are to the original and the characters, in order to get to the good stuff (and the good stuff its just, incredible, but sometimes you have to sit through a couple of hours of other stuff in order to get there, like with the whole robot minigame in Cosmo Canyon, to get to the gut punch that was the ending of that questline).
I do love the way that, keeping up with the "yakuzification", doesn't take itself that seriously. It's a game that's not afraid to play silly with it's characters and some story beats in the most sincere way. Which I also think it keeps in line with the original, with its mini games and tongue in cheek humor. I think many times people, myself included, hold the original in such high steem that many forget that the game had it's fair share of silly moments (remember Tifa slapping Scarlet on top of the cannon in Junon? Red XIII in soldier uniform on the ship -now recreated and recontextualized in an amazing way-?), so seeing that same spirit being kept here in order to balance the heavy stuff of the plot was great.
Keeping with the previous point, Commander James Stephanie Sterling has a great video regarding Cait Sith in Rebirth and like, the tone of the game and it's almost iconoclast nature.
It's weird seeing a game trying to do so much things at the same time, and just swing for the fences, even if it doesn't always hit the right notes, while doing it in an earnest way. Yeah, Nomura still found it's way to overcomplicate the plot with parallel dimensions and branching timelines following the ending of Remake, and I'm still trying to fully comprehend Rebirth's ending. But I still sunk over 130 hours that left me satisfied, where I cried many times (7 actually, according to my notes) and that counts for something. And now, we begin the long wait for the 3rd part (assuming Square still follow through, like, I don't think the next game is in danger, but seeing all the drama and problems on Square at the moment, eh, we'll see)
Waiting for the soundtrack to be released completely, because surprising no one, it fucking slaps.

(1997.)
I'm really good at getting lost in this place. I was supposed to go meet up with the other 2nds, but I might have gotten off on the wrong floor and taken a wrong turn. And I think I wandered through a security door with another group that I don't actually have access to...
Anyway, there's a huge break room that has a couple windows on the side at the corner, and it's full of Turks. It must be their break room...I slow down and peer through the window from the corner, just out of sight.
The bald one with sunglasses on is Rude. I've seen him around. He's standing in the corner looking at his watch. Then, there's Cissnei having coffee and a muffin at the table. Zack always says hi to her whenever he sees her. The blonde girl with the ponytail I've never seen, nor the guy with dark hair and glasses.
I hear footsteps down the hall. I quickly slip out of sight. Why am I doing this? I should be getting back to my station, but...
"'Sup, bitch," I hear someone say. It's a woman's voice with a gritty tone. It must be the blonde girl.
"Huh? Are you talking to me?" I recognize that voice, though. It's Reno, the red haired guy who always wears his shirt half unbuttoned.
The woman clicks her tongue. "Note to self, Reno responds to 'bitch' as predicted."
"Watch it, you're barely out of training," Reno says. "Tseng will have your ass...hey! Hey what's that look for?!"
A different voice giggles. "Sorry, I don't think Tseng will back you up on that." It's Cissnei. "He's got bigger fish to fry."
"'Sides, when did you become a rat? Little teacher's pet?" the other woman chides. "Hey, I can get you some concealer for those hickeys. Wall Market last night?"
"Dude! Come on!"
I take my chances and peer back around the corner through the window. Rude has popped his collar up, and the blonde woman has kicked back in her chair with a wry, cocky grin. "Hey man, no shame. I can help you touch up your roots while we're at it."
"Shotgun!" Reno hisses.
She puts her hands up. "I'm a bottle blonde, I'll admit it. I'll fix you right up."
Reno's fists are shaking, but Rude looks up. "Reno," he says.
This makes him back down, but only a little. "How the fuck do you know so much?" he snarls.
The other guy at the table, the one with the glasses, looks up from his magazine. "Really?" he remarks.
"Are you stupid? That's our thing," Shotgun says, leaning forward. "We gotta know stuff. What better place to start than in our own circle?"
"You don't have to stalk me!" Reno exclaims. "All right, what else do you know? Not about me, either! How about, uh..."
Cissnei perks in the middle of a bite of her muffin. "How about SOLIDER?" she says, then swallows. "It's easy to start with, especially if you shadow Tseng. He's eyes for their Director."
"Okay, okay." Shotgun tilts her head. "So 1st-class Fair--"
My heart jumps. I can't leave now. The small town gossip instinct roots me in place.
Reno cuts her off. "That's too easy, dude just got busted for crushing Hojo's nose."
"Okay, fine!" she huffs. "1st-class Hewley tends the community garden down in Sector 4. He's there about 3 times a week in the spring and summer. He also sits in for a jazz trio that plays above the plate."
"What instrument does he play?" Rude quizzes.
"Drums."
"Nice work."
Reno paces around her. "Okay, who else? There are more SOLDIER than that--more 1sts, even. That's still easy picking though, they're like celebrities in their own right--"
"1st-class Rhapsodos stashes his weed in Tseng's locker."
"Too easy," Reno says, albeit with a snort. "He complains about that pretty loudly when it happens."
Shotgun rolls her fingers on the table. "Okay...he's...in a gay relationship with 1st-class Cetra?"
Everyone seems to clear their throat at the same time. The guy reading a magazine pushes up his glasses and taps the side of his nose. "Don't be hasty," he mutters.
"Huh? What do you mean, they're not dating? I saw them...they're always fucking leaving together, and looking at each other with those huge goo goo mako eyes. Hell, I caught them coming out of the 1sts training room and Rhapsodos was still buttoning up his pants!"
"Just because they're fucking, doesn't mean they're together," Reno says.
"What?!"
"Don't," Cissnei says with a wave of her hand. "It's not worth it."
Shotgun rolls her eyes. "Well, if you know all that, then you probably know that he's adopted, too."
"Yup," Reno says. "He was 15 when Jenova Cetra swept him up with her three other kids. They're still down in Sector 2."
"No," Shotgun corrects, "I'm talking about Rhapsodos."
All the Turks stop to stare at her.
"What?" Cissnei asks. "Really?"
She appears to have stumped them, and she knows it, leaning back in her seat. "Oooh!" she says. "Gotcha!"
"Fuckin' Banora apple juice poster boy is adopted? Fuck!" Reno shakes his head. "How the hell...and he still got all that money for it? Lucky bastard..."
"That's enough," Tseng says appearing in the doorway, and everyone jerks back, startled, including me. "You were so busy gabbing that you didn't notice a 2nd was eavesdropping."
Uh-oh. I stumble backwards, and hustle around the corner. My heart pounds as I find the emergency stairway and race down it, ignoring the blue in the corners of my vision. Hopefully Zack can give me a pass so I don't get reprimanded...
(C.)
epilogue:
"Apologies, sir," Cissnei said, standing up and dusting off her lap. "We were waiting for you to arrive..."
Tseng shook his head and set his attention to Shotgun instead. "Rhapsodos isn't privy to that, so keep it to yourself," he advised. "They're his foster parents. He gets a cut of inheritance because of the little bit of acting he did as a child."
"A cut?!" Reno exclaimed. "You're telling me he's rolling in cash and that's only a cut?!"
Tseng glanced over to Reno with a side eye and wrinkled his nose. "Yes. You should really limit your...less savory life choices to your weekends."
"What about Strife?" Rude asked. "The eavesdropper."
"I'll speak with him later," he replied, then narrowed his eyes at everyone. "You all have your assignments. Shotgun is with me today. Dismissed."
As the room disbursed, Reno hung back with Rude. "You knew there was someone listening?" he asked.
"Yeah," he said with a sigh. "I'm on SOLDIER training duty. Hopefully Tseng will understand that's punishment enough."
Reno snorted. "Or front desk."
"Don't tell Elena that."

So far chapters 5-8 were a goddamn slog to get through and I’m bummed about it. Pacing in this part of 7 has always been iffy but here it just kinda screeched to a halt. I know it’s kind of a normal part of many rpgs that the party really should just focus on the main threat and not fuck around, but holy shit these guys really need to stop fucking around.
I was really looking forward to the first Gold Saucer visit because I hated it in the OG and was hoping I would like it here. The design is nice and the music is an upgrade for sure, but seriously fuck the mandatory mini games. I’m so tired of them. Forced to play a shittier version of Gummi ship battles, forced to play a still shitty G Bike, forced to compete in the battle arena, forced to look at every single square even if there’s nothing to do in them! And that’s just Gold Saucer - the chocobo race is still mandatory but it is better in this one, but you’re forced to fuck around and (guess what) play mini games for a fetch quest to even get to the race in the first place. 🙃 At least the racing is halfway bearable now.
I was also really excited for Barret and Dyne stuff but it honestly feels like Barret got the short end of the stick here. I’m hoping some future stuff will make it a bit better but what’s already happened wasn’t great and can’t really be undone.
The lead up is smothered by Yuffie’s butting in all the time, the possibility of Barret being the shooter isn’t there anymore, the actual confrontation between Barret and Dyne is offputting, the boss fight gets outright wacky with the giant metal scraps arm, the aftermath and Dyne’s suicide are more bombastic and over the top in a bad way, and to top it all off we get a random ass goofy Palmer fight to completely kill the pacing and mood followed by yet another mini game!! And then Barret is just…fine! after a minute. This game’s Barret had a much more traumatic and upsetting resolution with Dyne but nope, moving on, we gotta get back to our Ubisoft ass open world checklist and go see motherfucking Cissnei!!

"Maybe. But it would be nice to have prompt service. You know, considering he reports us for not being prompt ourselves." Zack rolled his eyes toward the ceiling. Wasn't that always the way of things? It was okay if someone ELSE did it, but not the subject in question! Never them!
Zack loved sitting down for a chat among the other staff. Sometimes, they were the best people to talk shit about stuff that no one else would feel as energetic about. Everyone had burdens to shuck off, even the highest rank among them. Keeping all that crap bundled up on the inside wasn't healthy. A good rant could get it all off, release some of that pressure. He was sticking to that theory.
"Angeal? Yeah." He inclined his head, looking.... a bit more sad than he had previously. "I was already on the case when Angeal decided to fuck off. I don't know---"
He pursed his lips together. He'd wanted to become First for so long, it wasn't like they expected him to do something wrong so soon after finally acquiring it. Maybe that was why. He couldn't say. But they trusted him to see the problem through. He was gonna do just that. "It's not like he talks to me or anything." He just up and left. Like Genesis. So what the fuck, he'd hunt him down too.
Maybe it was his own potty mouth [getting riled up tended to do that to the best of them] that inspired the scientist, but Zack laughed out loud. "Right they are! Pompous, arrogant little tools~ Cissnei is cool though. I mean, for a Turk." Even she had her moments, but at least she knew how to be human.
"Don't worry, I won't say anything if you don't want me too. But they can't say no if you'll be with a Soldier. Really what better arrangement is there?" He shrugged, finally taking a sip of his tea. His nose wrinkled. At least it was warm?
"I'm not in a big hurry to be a lab rat today. If he wants me, he can come get me. Besides that---" He leaned back in the chair. "I'll give him another.... fifteen minutes. If he's not here, I'm bailing! You're my witness, I waited patiently~"
Q raised an eyebrow as worry crossed his face, though he quickly pushed it to one side as he knew that it was not his place to be concerned over the subjects of the Soldier program. He had little knowledge of that Hojo was up to despite glimpses of memories working directly under the man; memories that Q had no desire to dig into and, besides, Zack had chosen this life.
"Perhaps he's working on something to improve the process - at your current rank, you would be a better subject than those beneath for handling variations in mako... And the Firsts are busy." He pointed out quietly, sipping at his tea as he gazed out of the window.
"Why send you, though? Why not send..." But he trailed off, his own question answered before he could even finish it. "But I thought you had a connection to one of them too, is that also seen as a conflict of interest?" Q asked, having the distinct feeling that Zack would not discuss such questioning with anyone else.
"The Turks are bastards." The words had slipped out before Q could stop them and he offered a sheepish smile. "My apologies, they are... Um... Interesting people? Unfortuntely, I've read too many files to really want anything to do with them. They make me uncomfortable. Have they not been assisting you? I suppose you would make- Oh..." He cut himself off again. This was why he avoided so much conversing - it was too hard to know what was okay to say.
"I-I..." He set his cup of tea down and forced his eyes back to Zack's, a deep part of his soul hating that colour and wondering what they had looked like before everything. "Please don't suggest that to Hojo, I really think you should finish your tea and return to looking for him."

Lately, I've been really reading the FF7 timeline to copy it down for reference and I've found some *very* interesting details. Here's a list of stuff so far:
Bugenhagen is apparently born in 1877?? This means he's 130 years old in OG!!
Pres Shinra is born in 1940. Palmer is 3 years younger than him.
Hojo was born in 1945, making him around 35 when Sephiroth is born.
ShinRa was known as "ShinRa Manufacturing" before it was an electric company, and we apparently don't have a date for when it was founded but know it discovered Mako energy on September 23, 1959.
Heidegger is born in 1949, making him a year older than Vincent.
Both Vincent and Lucrecia are born in 1950.
Red XIII is born in 1959, which is apparently the same year the Gi attacked.
Grimoire dies ~1970, which means Lucrecia was around 20 when it happened. Can you imagine doing undergrad research trying to get ahead of the curve and you get your advisor killed by the equivalent of a minor deity cuz you wouldn't stop poking it? She wasn't even a grad student when it happened 😂
Barret and Reeve are the same age, having been born in 1972.
Cid is actually 3 years younger than both of them, having been born on Feb 22, 1975.
Construction on the Midgar plate starts in 1976, and ShinRa is known as an electric company by then, but we don't know when that actually changed.
Tseng, Rufus, and Rude are all the same age, having been born in 1977. SOLDIER is initiated in the same year to help bring an end to a long-running international war.
Oh, Jenova is also found in 1977, which means none of the trio can even be conceived until that year. The Jenova Project also starts up that year.
At some point between 1977 and 1982, Vincent is assigned to guard the scientists running Project S. Yeah, we have no concrete date for that.
Somewhere around 1980, the trio are all born. No actual birthdates for any of them.
Gast leaves Shinra in 1980, which means, that even if Sephiroth is born in late 1977, he literally never knew the guy. He apparently meets Ilfana at some point before 1985, but we have no date for that.
We also have no official date for Lucrecia going crazy and Vincent getting shot. Wiki says it's somewhere around 1984, which is fucking wild. Cuz it's stated that she goes crazy during pregnancy and Vincent confronts Hojo as a result of that, which gets him shot. And yet, Sephiroth is supposed to be born around 1980??? Which means there's no chance he was born that late? WHICH IS IT SQUARE???
Reno is born in '79, meaning he's conceivably older than Sephiroth??
We have no concrete date for Zack being born, just the "around 1984", except we know he's 16 in '00, which means he was born early '85 at the latest since he's canonically 2 years older than Cloud and CC starts in October of '00.
We have no idea how old Kunsel is! I usually place him as being born in '83 and a year older than Zack.
Aerith was born Feb 7, 1985 and Gast was killed 20 days later on Feb 27.
Cloud was born on August 11, 1986 and Tifa was born on May 3, 1987.
we have actual years for basically all the Tsviets being born and yet no date for Sephiroth.
Yuffie's mom is apparently named "Kasumi"??
The Wutai war begins "around" 1992, which means Sephiroth could conceivably be, at the youngest, like, 8 when it starts up and around 16 at the oldest. We also have no concrete date for when he gets deployed, but know he's apparently a 1st class already by then?
Tseng is also only, like, 15 when the war starts, which leads me to believe that he gets recruited by the Turks in the early days of the war. He's also a rookie Turk by 1997 when the whole thing that results in Kalm being bombed happens.
Cissnei is hailed as the youngest ever full Turk, and considering Tseng is one by the time he's 20, and Reno is one when he's late teens, she's gotta be as young or younger than Zack. I usually put her as being born in '85 and thus 15 when CC starts.
Before Crisis is fucking wild dudes. We have at least years for all the events and it gets the Turks involved in a huge number of events in the timeline.
Rufus isn't made VP until after Genesis deserts. Seriously. The mass desertion event happens in October of '00 and Rufus isn't VP until December.
The Wutai war ends in Feb of '01 and Avalanche starts being a problem almost instantly (hmmm, I wonder why?? It's almost like someone started giving the group funding to start up 🤔)
Cloud leaves Nibelheim somewhere between December of '00 (when he makes his promise to Tifa) and April of '01 (when he meets Zack on the Modeoheim mission).
Cloud successfully kills a RAVEN (an enhanced Avalanche soldier made by Fuhito, a cheap Hojo knock-off) with their own sword in June of '01 when he's 14.
Avalanche attacks the ShinRa building in June of '02 and apparently almost makes off with Hojo??
Avalanche learned of Aerith and actually try to kidnap her in August of '02.
Cloud, Zack, and Sephiroth arrive in Nibelheim on Sept 22 and are then there for a whole 9 days before Sephiroth snaps and burns the town to the ground on the 10th (October 1).
Marlene is born in late winter/early spring aka early '03, making her 4 at the time of OG.
Apparently, Avalanche and the Turks were involved in the failed Shinra No. 26 launch?? I actually refuse this specific thing as canon, but the failed launch happened on April 12 of '03. Cid is 28 at the time.
The Corel reactor is attacked on May 8, and the town is blamed for it and burned to the ground apparently the same day??
Red XIII is captured by Shinra on October 30 of '06. And apparently, Reno was one of the Turks who captured him??
Zack and Cloud escape the lab on Dec 18 of '06. It then takes him almost 3 months to make it to Gongaga (arrives in February).
Then, Zack doesn't make it to Banora until September?? And that's when he deals with Genesis. And then he's dead before the month is over.
An entire mess with a summon called Zirconiade happens in early October of '07, where Midgar is almost destroyed cuz Fuhito decided that killing all humans was the best way to save the planet and turns himself into the summon?? Idk BC is fucking wild. This marks the end of this incarnation of Avalanche.
Tifa also finds Cloud wandering the slums in October of '07 and then the reactor bombing doesn't happen until December. This gives us officially 2 months of time where his recovery was happening and zero details. I have fanfic ideas already.
It's incredibly funny to me that Avalanche as the Turks know it is done in October and then, 2 months later, another cell pops up and has the balls to bomb a reactor. Talk about the mother of all cockroaches.
Apparently, officially, OG takes place over around a month or so??
Edge is being built by the end of January '08 and the WRO is also founded very quickly. I don't know if I believe that, really.
Advent Children happens in '10, and we have very little knowledge about those 2 years other than some OVAs and light novels I think.
DoC happens in '11. The less said about that, the better.
#ff7#ffvii#this timeline is wild guys#im having so much fun#my notes for it are handwritten and take up over 3 pages#i do actually choose to ignore a fair bit of it#but its fun to examine what actually considered canon

Final Fantasy Brave Exvius Japan Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion Event
Recently, the Japanese version of the Final Fantasy Brave Exvius (FFBE) mobile game announced a Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion event.
This includes several quests and banners. The featured chars from this event are all from Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion and they are as follows:
Zack Fair
Angeal Hewley
Cissnei
Genesis Rhapsodos
Was really excited and happy when I heard that Genesis was finally being added as a playable char to Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. I feel like I’ve been waiting forever for him to become a playable char in FFBE.
Since I started playing FFBE, I’ve been hoping for Genesis to be added to this game. That’s because Genesis Rhapsodos from Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (#ad) is currently my absolute, most fave Final Fantasy char.
Final Fantasy Brave Exvius and Final Fantasy Record Keeper Collab Event
I talk more about this in other posts but, IIRC, I started playing the Global or English version of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius way back when it had a collab event with the Final Fantasy Record Keeper (FFRK) mobile game.
Back then, FFBE was expecting the start of the Neo Visions (NV) era. The first Neo Visions banner to be released will feature Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII and he’ll be known as Cloud (FFVII REMAKE).
Decided to continue playing FFBE even after its collab with FFRK ended since I was interested in the aforementioned upcoming Final Fantasy 7 event.
Also, I saw some of the animated Limit Breaks (LBs) of some of the chars in FFBE, and I thought they were pretty cool. Even the upcoming Cloud (FFVII REMAKE) NV char will also have a CG LB.
These CG LBs may be short but they’re very nice to look at and they even feature a few lines.
This was a very stark contrast to the Global version of Final Fantasy Record Keeper. In the English version of FFRK, the Soul Breaks of the chars aren’t voiced.
But in the Japanese version of FFRK, there are some Soul Breaks that are voiced. This includes some of Genesis’s Soul Breaks.
I’d always hoped that the English version will eventually get these voiced Soul Breaks too but now that’s never gonna happen since, unfortunately, the Global version of FFRK has just ended its service. I talk more about that in other posts.
Final Fantasy Brave Exvius Global Version
Anyway, so I started playing the Global version of FFBE. Was able to get NV Cloud (FFVII REMAKE) and a few other chars and such. I talk more about that in another post.
The screenshot below shows that my Cloud (FFVII REMAKE) is now at NV Ex+ 3/3 but that definitely took a while before that happened.
I continued playing Final Fantasy Brave Exvius but I eventually stopped since I got kinda burnt out. IIRC, I stopped playing sometime during or after the Halloween event that featured NV Ibara. That was a long time ago though so don’t remember all the exact details anymore.
I think I also got bored. Just wasn’t having fun anymore. Haven’t even finished playing through the entirety of the game’s story mode yet. Also, IIRC, the game didn’t even have pity back then, which really sucked.
I remember wanting a copy of NV Aerith (FFVII REMAKE) but I wasn’t able to get her because I didn’t have any more lapis to try pulling for her. Even if I had some lapis, there was no guarantee that I’d get her since there was no pity.
Update: it was only sometime after I found my way back to FFBE that I was able to get a copy of Aerith (FFVII REMAKE). Was even able to get her to NV Ex+ 1/3 but, unfortunately, by now, she’s been horribly powercrept.
Was also busy with lots of other stuff, so didn’t really have time for FFBE. And I was playing other games that I found more interesting than FFBE.
Like FFRK has its faults and things that I don’t like about it but at least it has Genesis as a playable char. So if I had to choose, of course, I’d pick the game that has my fave Genesis in it.
Final Fantasy Brave Exvius and Kingdom Hearts Union Cross Collab
So I just stopped playing FFBE. I still sometimes checked out news about it though.
I mean, if they ever add Genesis as a playable char then of course, I’m gonna wanna play again. I was always hoping for that to happen but it never seemed to.
Much, much later, I remember hearing that Final Fantasy Brave Exvius was gonna have a collab with the Kingdom Hearts Union Cross (KHUX) mobile game.
Was kinda interested in this so kept an eye and ear out for when it would start. When the event in question started, I heard it came with some daily free draws too so I downloaded FFBE again.
The only thing I can clearly remember about the free draw I did was that I got the 5-star version of Sora from Kingdom Hearts.
5-stars have long since been powercrept. There’s no way they’d be used over a Neo Visions char.
Not being able to get any of the featured Kingdom Hearts NV chars (Sora, Rikku, and/or Kairi) quickly made me lose interest in FFBE again.
It didn’t help that my FFBE account was basically the same as when I’d left it. Still didn’t have enough lapis to pull.
I mean, I could continue playing through the story and doing the available events and such to try and get more lapis but I just didn’t feel like it.
So I ended up just deleting the game again. Didn’t bother to try logging in daily to see if maybe the rest of the free pulls will give me something good.
I kinda regret that now. At the very least, I really wish that I’d tried to get the Kingdom Hearts versions of Cloud Strife and Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII.
They’re both only of 5-star rarity although they can be upgraded to 7-stars. Either way, they’re useless but I would have loved to have gotten at least 1 copy of each of them for collection purposes.
Since both are time-limited, I’ll never be able to get either of them unless we get another Kingdom Hearts collab or something.
Unfortunately, another Kingdom Hearts collab event seems unlikely to happen anytime soon or even at all since the KHUX mobile game has also ended its service.
Neo Visions Sephiroth, Tifa, and Aerith
Although I once again stopped playing FFBE, I still checked news about it every once in a while to see if there are any interesting chars that will be added soon or something. Yes, I’m still hoping to see Genesis in FFBE. LOL.
Anyway, I soon heard the news that another Final Fantasy 7 event just started in the Japanese version of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius.
The Japanese version of FFBE just got Neo Visions of the following Final Fantasy VII chars:
Sephiroth - known as Legendary Hero Sephiroth in base form, brave shifts to One-Winged Angel Sephiroth
Tifa Lockhart - known as Avalanche’s Tifa in both base form and shift form
Aeris or Aerith Gainsborough - known as Cetra Descendant Aerith in base form, brave shifts to Aerith & Red XIII
The 3 NV chars are all really good. They come with CG LBs and brave shift forms. Tifa and Sephiroth are also supposed to usher in a new level of powercreep.
Ended up playing FFBE again a short while before the aforementioned event started in the Global version of the game. Incidentally, this coincided with the game’s anniversary so there were a lot of rewards and such to be had.
Actually resumed playing through FFBE’s story mode so I could get more lapis to pull on the Final Fantasy VII banners.
The first FFVII banner that showed up was the one for Aerith. Didn’t pull on this banner though because we actually got a free copy of Cetra Descendant Aerith. We also got enough fragments to be able to get Aerith to NV Ex+ 2/3.
It just wasn’t possible to do that right away since her fragments weren’t given all at once. So those who couldn’t wait or who wanted to max her out to NV Ex+ 3/3 could pull on her banner.
Didn’t mind waiting though so I didn’t bother to pull. Aerith was strong but Tifa and Sephiroth were more powerful since you couldn’t get them for free. Both Tifa and Seph are known as “premium” units.
By now, FFBE finally has a pity system. To guarantee a char, you’ll need at least 30k+ to 40k+ lapis.
But to guarantee a so-called “premium” char like Tifa and Sephiroth, you need at least 60k lapis.
There was much debate going on as to who was stronger between Tifa and Sephiroth. Both were very, very similar.
Tifa deals water damage and is what is known in the game as a TDW (True Dual Wield) type of char. This means she can wield 2 one-handed weapons at once. She can be made to wield only 1 weapon though.
On the other hand, Sephiroth deals dark damage and is a TDH (True Double Hand) type of char. This means he specializes in wielding one 2-handed weapon.
According to some, you don’t really need both Tifa and Sephiroth. You can just pick one of them. But there were also some who were saying that Sephiroth was maybe slightly better than Tifa.
Tifa’s banner showed up after Aerith’s. Sephiroth’s banner was the last to show up.
Neo Visions Legendary Hero Sephiroth Banner
I decided to pull for Sephiroth. Since his banner showed up last, and since Tifa and Aerith aren’t time-limited, it was possible to pull for copies of them while pulling on Seph’s banner. On a side note, Sephi isn’t time-limited either.
So I was hoping to be able to get copies of Tifa and Aerith while pulling for Sephiroth.
I talk more about this in another post but long story short, I was able to get all of them.
Like I said, I didn’t pull for Aerith but we got her to NV Ex+ 2/3 for free. I got a copy of Tifa but can’t remember for sure now if I got her by tossing tickets on her banner or while pulling on the Seph banner.
Also can’t remember if I got any more copies of Tifa. I think I only got 1 but that was fine by me since I’d already decided to focus on maxing out Sephiroth.
Plus, I heard we were soon about to get a Fragment Dungeon where we can get more fragments to max out our chars. So my plan was just to put Aerith and Tifa in the Fragment Dungeon until I can get them both to NV Ex+ 3/3.
As for Sephiroth, IIRC, was able to get my first copy of him pretty early while pulling on his banner. I could have stopped there but I decided that I might as well try to get him to NV Ex+ 3/3.
This will fully max him out and make him really good. And doing this will also undoubtedly help me with clearing more of the content in FFBE that I had yet to do.
Aside from the story mode of the game, there were also lots of trials and other permanent content that I still haven’t done before.
Also need to complete all the time-limited quests that came with this Final Fantasy VII event.
And by continuing to pull on Sephiroth’s banner, I’m also hoping to be able to get chars that I don’t have yet. This includes supports, healers, chars with good TMRs (Trust Master Rewards) and STMRs (Super Trust Master Rewards) and more.
Was able to keep on pulling on the Sephiroth banner thanks to having a lot more content to go through. Just by continuing to play through the game’s story mode, was able to keep getting lapis.
The game’s pity system helped too even if it was really expensive. Was able to get up to 60k lapis which guaranteed me another copy of NV Legendary Hero Sephiroth.
IIRC, spending 60k lapis will get you 20 tickets. You can then use these 20 tickets to exchange for 1 copy of NV Sephiroth.
The exchange shop has a few more copies of Sephi but only 1 costs 20 tickets. The rest of the Seph copies costs 28 tickets. This means needing to spend 60k+ lapis again if you want to pity another copy of Sephiroth.
Didn’t think I’d be able to pity a second copy of Seph but I still kept on pulling on his banner anyway.
Every time I got enough lapis, I’d pull on the Sephiroth banner and hope that I can get more copies of him so it didn’t matter even if I wasn’t able to pity him again.
Thankfully, was able to get more copies of Sephiroth. Wound up being 50 fragments short of being able to max Seph out by the time his banner ended.
The moment the Sephiroth banner left the game, 50 of his fragments showed up in the VIP shop.
Although it cost me a lot of VIP coins, I readily got all of the Sephi fragments in the shop. With those fragments plus all the copies of NV Legendary Hero Sephiroth that I was able to get, managed to get Seph to NV Ex+ 3/3.
As mentioned, whenever the Fragment Dungeon showed up, I made sure to bring Tifa and Aerith in there so, eventually, I was also able to get them both to NV Ex+ 3/3.
Having a fully maxed out Sephiroth really helped me with being able to clear more content in FFBE. Was also soon able to get more chars, like Tifa and Aerith, to help me out.
Thoughts about Final Fantasy Brave Exvius
So I kept on playing FFBE but I was really casual about it and didn’t take it all that seriously. Like I stopped playing through the story mode and didn’t bother doing all of the permanently available content yet.
I focused on doing all of the time-limited events but didn’t let it get to me if there were some quests that I couldn’t do due to not having the right unit or equipment or something.
Also didn’t bother trying to do well or score high in ranked content. I’m perfectly fine with just clearing all the quests once to get the initial clear rewards then moving on to the next quest.
I find Final Fantasy Brave Exvius fun and fine enough, I suppose. And I like how there are a lot of playable Final Fantasy chars here.
But I do find it annoying how the game has a lot of Global exclusive units that are so good that they end up overshadowing the Final Fantasy chars, so much so that it seems like you’re always better off just skipping these Final Fantasy chars and just pulling for the Global exclusive units instead.
In the beginning, I read through all the scenes and such as I played through the story mode of the game. But then I just started skipping the story. I think this started when the Seph banner showed up and I was rushing through doing all the quests I can in order to get more lapis to keep on pulling for Sephiroth.
So instead of bothering to read through all the content, I just tapped on the skip button.
From what I’ve seen of the story so far, it wasn’t really that interesting to me. It seemed like the typical fantasy story.
Rain, the main character, came across as the typical shounen hero. He seemed really cliche. Didn’t really like him all that much.
Lasswell, Rain’s best friend, seemed better but since he was only the secondary char or the sidekick, the focus was hardly ever on him. And even he has his faults.
The dark version of Fina, the main female character, was way more interesting than her light version. But, much to my annoyance, light Fina kept being shoved down our throats instead.
Even before it happened, I already knew that we were gonna have to stick with light Fina no matter what. And, sure enough, events happened such that the dark version of Fina had to disappear for good and we were stuck with her light version instead. Meh.
I talk more about FFBE’s story in another post but the point is that since I started skipping all the story events and content, there are a lot of chars that I just don’t know anything about.
These chars would be featured in banners but they mean nothing to me because I don’t know anything about them. But some of these chars end up being really good so I end up pulling for them anyway since I do want to be able to clear all the content in this game.
I used my NV Ex+ 3/3 Sephiroth until I couldn’t anymore. He was my top DPS for a long time. He was even the first char that I leveled up to 130 when said feature came along.
When Sephi became really powercrept and I couldn’t use him anymore, I ended up with a lot of Global exclusive or Global first chars because they were now the ones who could help me clear content.
I continued taking note of the chars who showed up in the Japanese version of FFBE and who will soon be coming to the English version. There wasn’t really anyone that caught my eye and made me think “must pull for this char” or something though.
And the consensus seemed to be that it was better to just skip these chars and focus on pulling on the Global exclusive ones because they were better.
Final Fantasy Brave Exvius and NieR Collab Event
So that was what I did although I didn’t always pull even if the chars were said to be good.
Like we recently got a collab event with the NieR game but the 2 featured chars, A2 and 2B, are both premium and time-limited. They received a lot of hype with a lot of people saying they were really good.
But I was reluctant to pull for them. Yeah, they’re good but I found myself thinking about the fact that I’ll need to spend at least 60k lapis in order to guarantee 1 of them.
By now the NV pool is so bloated that every time I get a Neo Visions crystal, it feels like I always end up with a dupe or a char that’s long since been outdated and powercrept and was thus useless to me.
I was so sure that if I pulled, I’ll end up having to pity the NieR chars. If I’m only able to get one copy of them, then I’ll probably only be able to get them to NV Ex+ 1/3, at least for now.
Would an NV Ex+ 1/3 char be better than the chars I have who are already at NV Ex+ 3/3?
It would take me a long time to get the NieR units to NV Ex+ 3/3 since I won’t be able to off-banner them once the collab event ends.
By the time I get them to NV Ex+ 3/3 via the Fragment Dungeon, they might could will be powercrept and outdated and useless already.
Final Fantasy Brave Exvius Japan and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion Collab Event Announcement
So I ended up skipping the NieR banner. And I’m really glad I did because it wasn’t long before the Japanese version of FFBE announced that it was gonna have a collab with Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion.
This coincided with the release of the Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion game.
I’m really glad FFBE decided to do this collab. I was also hoping that Final Fantasy Record Keeper and even the Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia (DFFOO) mobile game will also have a Reunion collab.
But the English version of FFRK ended before Reunion was released. I took a quick look but it seems like the Japanese version of FFRK didn’t bother to have any Final Fantasy VII-related events to coincide with the release of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion.
Unfortunately, the same can also be said with regards to DFFOO. Was really hoping that Angeal and Genesis will finally become playable in DFFOO but alas, once again, it looks like that won’t be happening anytime soon. Sigh.
Seriously though, I wonder why DFFOO and FFRK didn’t have any FF7 events and banners to go with the release of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion.
At least FFBE is having a Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion collab event.
NV Zack Fair and NV Angeal Hewley
Initially, the Japanese version of FFBE only announced the arrival of NV Zack Fair and NV Angeal Hewley.
Both of them are SLB chars, meaning they don’t have a brave shift form. They only have 1 form. Depending on their current Ex level, after a certain number of turns, their Limit Burst will turn into a Super Limit Burst (SLB).
Zack is premium while Angeal isn’t. Zack gets a CG LB but Angeal doesn’t have one. Zack gets a really good Leader skill for the lightning element.
And that’s really all I know about these two. LOL. Because to be honest, didn’t really bother taking a look at all the details about them and what they can do. It doesn’t matter because I’m gonna pull for them either way.
So I’m really glad I didn’t pull for the NieR units so I have more lapis for when this Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion collab event finally comes to the Global version of the game.
I’ve been hearing a lot about Zack and how he’s apparently really good so it’s nice to know that he’s usable. Not too sure about Angeal though.
I was disappointed that both of them are SLB. I wish they had a brave shift form like with the other Final Fantasy 7 chars like Sephiroth, Cloud, Aerith, and Tifa. Also wish that Angeal had gotten a CG LB.
I was also secretly hoping that the second week of this event will come with an announcement that there will be another banner and this one will feature Genesis Rhapsodos.
Announcement of Upcoming NV Genesis Rhapsodos Banner
So I was beyond pleased when that actually ended up happening. Hell, yes!
It looks like they only announced that Genesis was coming soon. We didn’t get any more details about him so was free to speculate.
Of course, I really want him to be good. I’ll still pull regardless but of course I want him to be great.
I also really want Genesis to have a CG LB and to have a brave shift form. Maybe he can have his wing out in his shift form. Maybe he can wear his Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 outfit in one form then he can wear his Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII outfit in the other form.
I was kinda expecting Genesis to be a physical fire DPS since that’s what he is in FFRK. They could make him a hybrid char so he can deal both physical and magical damage or something, I suppose.
I was torn on whether I wanted him to be “premium” or not. On one hand, being premium means it’ll be more expensive to pull for him but wouldn’t that also mean that he’ll be really good?
I mean, Zack is premium and he’s good. The same could be said for the likes of Sephiroth and Tifa and even the NieR units. They’re all premium and they’re all really good.
That’s not to say that non-premium chars can’t be good because there are non-premium chars who are really good.
So I don’t know. I can only hope that, whether Genesis is a “premium” unit or not, he’ll be really good.
NV Genesis Rhapsodos
We finally get more details about NV Genesis.
He’s not premium
He’s an SLB unit, no brave shift
He’s a fire mage
He doesn’t have a CG LB
Not gonna lie - was kinda disappointed about this. Well, at least Genesis is finally a playable char in this game.
Still can’t wait for him to get to the Global version of FFBE and will still pull for him, of course. But there are a lot of things I’m disappointed about. I wish FFBE had put more effort into this.
I wish they could have given Genesis a CG LB, even if it’s really short. I wish he could have gotten a brave shift form.
It also sucks to know that he seems to be locked to the fire element. I get why he’s a mage but I’m kinda miffed about that too because mages aren’t that good in this game. Well, there are a few good mages but most of the best DPS are all physical.
At least it looks like Genesis is actually good. He’s being compared to NVA (Neo Vision Awakenable) Black Mage Golbez for having a Meteor-like ability that makes use of his magic and MP to deal damage.
The problem is that this ability of Gen’s is locked to the fire element while Golbez’s Meteor is not. Meteor can be imbued with any element so Golbez can easily fit in any team.
I’m really hoping that when Genesis gets added to the Global version of FFBE, he’ll be updated to also have the Meteor ability.
There are some chars who’ve been upgraded so it’s not impossible but I know it’s not that likely either. Still, let me hope and dream, okay? LOL.
Neo Visions Genesis Rhapsodos Sprite Animations
Here are GIFs of the animations of NV Genesis’s sprite as well as the animation of his Vision Card:
Dazzling Demoness Vision Card
I’m really sad that I missed out on the Dazzling Demoness Vision Card. This Vision Card (VC) gives +500 MP and +120 MAG. It also has the following effects:
Increase MP and MAG by 100%
Increase static MP and MAG by 500
Increase physical and magic damage against aquatics and insects by 100%
Decrease MP used by 50%
The above effects applies to all chars while the ones below will only apply to FFBE units:
Increase chain modifier cap by 100%
Increase equipment MAG by 200% and accuracy by 25% when single wielding any weapon
Dazzling Demoness must have shown up twice or so by now but each time it became available, I never bothered to try and get it.
I didn’t think I needed it. This is apparently a really good VC for Golbez but my own Golbez is only at NVA Ex+ 2/3 so haven’t bothered to use him over my Nv Ex+ 3/3 chars.
But, as it turns out, Genesis wants this card too. Argh! If only I’d known that while the banner that featured this card was up. Sigh.
Now I’m hoping that Dazzling Demoness will come back again. If it does, I’ll definitely get it this time for Genesis.
Genesis does have his own Vision Card. It has +130 MAG and the following effects:
Increase MAG by 50%
Increase LB damage by 25%
Increase static MAG by 500 (only applies to FFVII units)
Genesis’s own Vision Card should work well enough for him, but it does seem like Dazzling Demoness is way better. So I’m really hoping that it comes back or that we get another Vision Card that’s even better than Dazzling Demoness.
Dark Visions Abyss Dark Weapon
Genesis has his own sword but I heard that the Dark Visions 2-handed Abyss Dark weapon sword was better for him.
Genesis’s 2-handed sword comes with +140 ATK and +234 MAG as well as +50% accuracy and 1.25-1.75x variance or damage modifier. It also has the following effects:
Increase physical and magic damage against humans and machinas by 75%
Increase static MAG by 500 (AFAIK, this only applies to Genesis)
The Dark Visions 2-handed sword is known as Dark Walküre and it comes with +202 ATK, +405 MAG, +50% accuracy, and 1.25-1.75x variance.
The 2-handed Dark Visions weapons cost 10k Dark Matter each. Right now, only 3 are available. Aside from Dark Walküre, we also have Dark Murasame and Dark Wonder Wand.
Dark Murasame is a 2-handed katana with +405 ATK while Dark Wonder Wand is a 2-handed staff with +405 MAG and +202 SPR.
The suggestion was to go for either the katana or the sword. The sword can be used by the likes of Golbez while the katana can be used by multiple chars, including Sephiroth.
I ended up going for the katana because I heard that Sephiroth was gonna get an update soon so I thought I might be able to use him again. This was way before we got the news that Genesis was gonna be coming soon as a playable char in FFBE.
I ignored the sword since, as aforementioned, my Golbez wasn’t fully built and, IIRC, he was really the only one who was viable enough for the sword.
So I thought I was better off getting the katana since more chars can make use of this. For instance, my NV Ex+ 3/3 Samurai Chizuru, one of the DPS that I’m currently using, can also make use of it.
But after hearing about Genesis and how good the Dark Walküre was for him, I regret going for the Dark Murasame. Because now I don’t have enough Dark Matter to get the Dark Walküre.
Dark Matter can only be obtained by playing through the Dark Visions and/or World Visions events. We only get this kind of event like once a month or so. If you rank high in these events, you can get more Dark Matter.
But since I never bother trying to rank high, I only get a few Dark Matter at a time. Now I’m trying to put a bit more effort whenever we get a Dark Visions and World Visions events but it’s really hard since I don’t have a lot of chars and equipment.
At the time I’m writing this post, I managed to get back up to 7390 Dark Matter so at least it looks like I might be able to get the Dark Walküre before the Genesis banner gets here. Hopefully, anyway.
After buying the 2-handed katana, I was down to like 2k-3k Dark Matter so it seemed near impossible to get back up to 10k in order to get the sword.
NV Cissnei
Welp, just realized that I forgot to talk about Cissnei. LOL. Like with NV Angeal and NV Zack, don’t really know much about NV Cissnei.
Apparently, she’s a free unit so we can easily get her to NV EX+ 3/3 which is great. But since we get her for free, she’s likely not that good.
Plans for Upcoming Final Fantasy Brave Exvius and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion Collab Event
Definitely gonna pull for Genesis, of course. Hoping to be able to get him to NV Ex+ 3/3 on the first day that his banner drops.
I think I’ll just skip the Angeal and Zack banners for now. I can just hope to get them while pulling for Genesis on his banner.
Or maybe once I get at least 1 copy of Genesis, I can go pull on the Angeal and Zack banners and hope I can get at least 1 copy of them without having to spend too much.
Then again, the NV pool is so bloated by now that you’re more likely to get an off-banner trash unit as opposed to anything good whenever you pull. At least that’s what it feels like for me.
Like I’ve lost track of how many times the old version of NV Rain has trolled me. Already have my first copy of him at NV Ex+ 3/3 so it feels really bad whenever I get more copies of him.
On the other hand, there’s still a lot of chars that I don’t have yet but I never seem to get them.
Anyway, for now, I’m refraining from pulling on any banner. Ideally, I’ll be able to keep on saving until the Genesis banner gets here but if the Dazzling Demoness Vision Card ever comes back, then I want to pull for it.
And if there’s a char or Vision Card or something that could be good for Genesis or that could support him and make him even better, then that could tempt me to pull. Might also need to pull to update my current DPS and supports.
So just need to make sure that I have as much lapis as possible for when Genesis’s banner gets here.
Right now, I have around 148,165 lapis on hand. So far, have been able to avoid pulling on banners. We’ll see if I can keep that up.
Really looking forward to the Crisisi Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion event. Can’t wait for it to get to the Global version of FFBE. Want to pull for Genesis already, damn it. LOL.

Cissnei Encounter & Boss Fight (Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Speculation)
I thought I’d repost this since I’m back and this was one of my favourite things to have done way back when FF7 Remake was released BAHAHAHA! The gist of this was basically how I imagine Cissnei would make her appearance in FF7R2, hell I even did the boss fight!
Enjoy the long read and let your imagination flow! <3 >:3c
The Encounter
So this will take place at Gongaga. Obviously in the OG we instead fight Reno and Rude in Gongaga, but to tie into the fact that Cissnei has history with a certain First Class SOLDIER that came from this place, and not only that but also KNOWS his parents… Especially with the way that Remake ended I highly believe that Cissnei stuck with the Turks. (Still a little bitter that there was no resolution for her, she literally just vanished. So now here’s how I see it going down.
The scene more or less remains the same with Rude, Reno and Elena present but instead of the gang being attacked by Reno and Rude, they are instead attacked by Cissnei. Her presence is made known when Rude and Reno prepare to fight the gang, citing call-backs to the original game before a voice from behind them tells them to stop and go with Elena to report to Tseng. Obviously, she gets that grand entrance reveal with the badass Turk music in the back and the multi angle camera shots before ending on her face and she just smirks. Reno and Rude question her decision on fighting them alone to which she replies with a shrug and a sweet innocent smile “I’ve been on the sidelines for far too long, I could use the warm up.” And then she moves forward to finally meet the gang. She’ll display vested interest in them since she saw how badly they beat Rude and Reno atop the Plate but will also have interest in the weapon Cloud is wielding and doesn’t hesitate to call out the fact that the weapon he wields does not belong to him, she wants him to show her. Insert back and forth dialogue/insults and the battle begins.
For the boss fight below: Click this if you want immersive battle music~!
The Boss Fight
So, the boss fight starts with Cissnei wielding her signature shuriken (Rekka), the music used is a remixed version of the Turk theme or some Hard Techno (Hope you clicked the link for max immersion hehehe~). She does the basic stuff, dodging and weaving if you’re a melee character and using Counterattack like Reno if you’re too aggressive. She’ll throw the shuriken at you if you’re standing too far away. The shuriken can ricochet between party members. Barrier Materia causes the Shuriken to stop bouncing and drops to the ground. She’s vulnerable unarmed and has to run over to pick up the shuriken.
Once you get her to half health, a cutscene plays of her smirking and then the Wind Materia in the middle of her shuriken glows bright as her weapon starts circling around her, creating a barrier of wind to protect her. In phase two, ranged attacks are blocked by the wind barrier and she takes no damage, but her laidback fighting style now changes to an aggressive one. She no longer evades melee attacks but takes reduced damage from them. The shield can be broken by using ‘Braver’ or Subversion Materia. If a melee attacker gets too close, she’ll do dodge rolls and flips away (Dark Souls style LMAO) while throwing smaller shuriken while she’s evading.
Her ‘Desperation Move’ has her charge up her shuriken before she throws it outwards, creating a small tornado as it follows whichever character the player is controlling at that time. Once she is brought down to 10% health, the boss fight is over and a cutscene plays with her accepting Cloud’s skill. She’ll request that the party take care of him, mentioning the fact that she doesn’t want to see someone dying again wielding that blade. “Don’t make the same mistake I did, protect him.” She then flees from the scene allowing the party to continue their adventure into Gongaga.
#✫ (Jae Jae Hour: OOC) ✫#/I did a little rewriting because my original post had so many grammar mistakes OIASDUFOA#/I HOPE Y'ALL ENJOY THE READ <3

Btw I know you said you aren't really accepting prompts but I love to get into discussions and stuff about various prompts and throw various scenarios for a specific prompt around so if I get to be too much plz let me know so I can back off
Genesis trying to care for a toddler is honestly hilarious because he's a great big dramatic bitch who's probably never interacted with a young child in his life aside from Angeal or publicity stunts. Clpud may be calm but he'd be a hellion in his own way tho, he is a Strife afterall.
God Zack would be an absolute terror. If Angeal didn't sleep before he definetely isn't getting any now! Kunsel has to takeover rbabysitring duty at least once a day just so Angie can get some sleep and usually need a nap himself right after. All the Soldiers love him tho but someone needs to teach this kid to stay away from the swords! Cloud isn't much better, he stole Gen's hunting knife because it has a wolf carving on it.
(it’s fine to want to discuss ongoings with me, or even discuss more indepth things from the prompts. It’s mostly right now I’m a tad burnt out from prompts in light of just how many I got since damn, did you guys send me a lot)
Zack does not believe in clothes, believes it’s perfectly acceptable to run around like a lunatic naked, is willing to annoy bitty Cloud (and got nailed in the head with a block), when finally ready to crash just latches onto whoever has picked him up and cries if you try to put him down, and unfortunately for everyone he still has his enhancements. Oh, and he bites (has bitten Angeal, Kunsel and Cissnei).
Genesis is relieved to have Cloud because most of what Cloud does is sleep, play with blocks, and listen to Genesis recite Loveless (not that he can understand him since bitty Cloud only speaks/understands Old Nibel which does...complicate matters, especially since there’s only about five people at Shinra who can understand that). On the other hand, once they realize just *why* Cloud is sleeping so much things get a lot more interesting.
Cloud has taken no knife, but he *has* taken materia and the Firsts discovered something interesting with *that*.
