Okay but I really hate this idea that going against the leader or having discussion and arguments with them makes the team bad. Always listening to the leader and never going against them isn’t a team, its a cult, cults do not have good leadership.

SO! valentino rossi (born 16 February 1979, aquarius. italian.) is one of the most iconic people in motorsport, CERTAINLY in motogp. he's a 9 time world champion, your favorite driver's favorite driver, and is generally credited with revolutionizing the popularity of the sport by: a. being insanely good at motorcycle racing, and b. in general having a lot of fun about it. lethally charming and charismatic. all time active listening face. just a fun and funny dude that everyone pretty much likes and MANY younger riders idolize. VERY good at handling the media and his legions of cult-like fans. sometimes treated more like a god than a person. i was in the store yesterday and saw one of his themed monster energy drinks despite him retiring two years ago. his fun retirement activity is racing BMWs and running his own motogp team/training facility/cult for young italian racers. (this is where cele and bezz and basically every italian rider not named enea bastianini come from!)

so in 2011ish valentino had won 9 titles, and he decided to leave his current manufacturer and move to italian manufacturer ducati where he generally had a stone-cold terrible time. EXTENDED flop era for a couple years. any time ive watched content that covers this period everyone is so sad. so sad. anyways he GOES BACK to his old manufacturer in 2013 and is much more competitive. kind of just happy to be winning sometimes and be on the podium. 2013 is also where marc comes in. what could go wrong.

marc marquez! (born 17 february 1993, almost exactly 14 years after vale which i'm sure means nothing. also an aquarius. spanish.) childhood sports idols include: dani pedrosa, VALENTINO ROSSI.

marc carved his way up through the feeder championships until casey stoner unexpectedly retired at the end of the 2012 season leaving a seat empty on a VERY good bike for his rookie season. rocked up and was immediately VERY good at winning and very good at being a crazyinsane person on track that made people mad at him lol. hilarious habit of pissing people off via on-track crimes that i really enjoy. motogp riders are already crazy (they do death sport) but marc is famous for taking risks no one else will. basically if he's not winning, he's crashed out or he's maybe crashed YOU out. he wins the championship as a rookie (insane) and the next year's championship as well. heir apparent to the throne. sweet and goofy but is now known as one of the more reserved riders with the press. probably because of all this drama tbh. undisputed GOAT of acting like a slut on camera

throughout 2013-2014, marc and valentino had a good relationship! marc very clearly idolizes him and is like. bowled over completely with delight every time valentino looks his way. vale likes him! theyre buds! truly an endless well of pictures of vale explaining something with his hands and marc babygirling at him. highly recommend checking out @pgaslys every rosquez podium tag for contextual brain damage. insane times.

(IT SHOULD BE NOTED: before the 2015 season marc visits valentino at his practice track in italy, where they compete to break the track record and almost kill each other bc they are so pathologically competitive. APPARENTLY, marc showed up with some official mechanics and valentino was a little pissed off because it was supposed to be a like. fun thing. and to marc winning is the most fun! if you dont come to win why come at all! anyways marc breaks the track record and credits that to cooling their relationship a bit. good post about it here.) here they are that day:

so what could go wrong, right? WELL. valentino has a chance to win his tenth title in 2015. marc is on a flop bike and crashed a bunch so he's not in the championship conversation but vale is leading the standings from the jump, with his main opponent being jorge lorenzo. i think he really wanted that tenth, and dedicated himself to the season in a way he hadnt really ever before (he was a very effortless competitor when he was young. gym-adverse. king).

marc and him start to get into some scraps along the way, notably in argentina (where they made contact and marc crashed out), assen (where they made contact AGAIN and vale won the race), and phillip island (marc won. GREAT race available here for free). phillip island sees vale finishing P4 and jorge lorenzo finishing ahead of him in P3, reducing his championship lead by quite a bit. no real indication of any tension during these races, and they are asked about it!

this is where valentino's delulu era begins! basically, ahead of the next race (🔥🔥SEPANG 2015🔥🔥) in the pre-race press conference, he goes after marc, saying he was deliberately sabotaging valentino in phillip island because marc wanted jorge to win. in valentino's mind. marc wants jorge to win because a. they are both spanish (??) and b. it would mean marc has to win less titles to equal valentino's total. record scratch. freeze frame.

everyone (including marc!) thinks valentino is joking at first bc that is bananascrazyinsane. he was not joking. (it should be noted valentino STILL thinks this lol.) anyways marc is completely blindsided. he thought they were good! yeah they've been chippy on track but that's racing!! truly like. 22 years old and your friend (AND CHILDHOOD IDOL.) is calling you a snake in front of your face with NO prior warning to the entire motogp establishment writ large including your coworkers and REPORTERS. valentino wont even look at him the entire time. the press conference is available here on vimeo. excruciating gifsets of marc's very stiff bewildered PR smile found here.

anyways so. the race. marc is uh. pissed off. he's stuck to valentino like GLUE the entire time and they trade places a bunch of times. now marc is kind of famous for being a little asshole on track anyways, but its not like he's gonna get out of valentino's way and just let him pass after what he said in that press conference so. hand in unlovable hand <3. truly very fun to watch imo even with the sword of damocles hanging over them. marc is fucking on one the entire race and basically refuses to give valentino an inch until vale gets so fed up with his antics that um. well. it certainly looks like he kicked him. vale says he didnt, and that his leg accidently made contact with marc's bike. marcs says. he fucking kicked me. judge for yourself here!

so valentino gets hauled in front of race direction and penalized for the next race (the deciding race for the championship). he has to start from the back of the grid and it kills his chance at a tenth title stone dead. vale places the blame squarely on marc's shoulders and his legions of fans decide marc is public enemy number 1. him and jorge have to get security at the next race because of death threats, someone tries to break into marc's childhood home back in spain, marc's mom throws away all of marc's valentino merchandise from when he was a kid. vale says nothing.

but the thing about marc. is that he loves very hard and chooses his people pretty carefully. didnt really move out of his tiny hometown until he turned 30 and also made his baby brother move in with him kind of guy. so all this is not really enough for him to let go of vale entirely! 2016 is where the pain lives! bc marc is still reaching out and vale himself stays pretty cold for a couple years. they seem to faintly reconcile for a bit but its not anywhere like it was before sepang.

the real nail in the coffin is argentina 2018. another insane race where marc has to start from the back and goes on a rampage through the field and crashes out like three people. i cant remember. this race is also available on youtube for free its very entertaining. every five minutes marc does something insane. vale is one of the people marc crashes out and afterwardshe goes on a big rant about how marc is destroying the sport and is actively dangerous. marc goes to valentino's garage immediately after the race to apologize and vale doesnt even look at him. he gets turned away at the door after vale's best friend/assistant/henchman yells in his face1!!! and thats kind off all she wrote in terms of reconciliation

anyways that's where we are! they are both very much not over it. vale goes on podcasts and is like. in 30 years i will still be mad, im literally never going to get over it it was such a big and unfair thing and i think about it all the time like it was yesterday. and marc (lying) says as time goes by i dont even think about it :) and i care about valentino less and less :))) but yes he hurt me deeply lol. CANNOT stress enough how much this entire thing is now inextricably liked to both of their legacies. the two arguable GOATs of a sport had an epic fleetwood mac-style beatles breakup divorce and everyone wants to talk about it allllll day long including me :)

additional context! really recommend checking out marc's little docuseries he put out this year about his recent struggles with injury. he is so not right in the head and it goes over the valentino drama in ep3. theres also hitting the apex (2015) which goes over the 2013 season (marc's rookie season) and is a really good introduction to all the major players at the time. its like less than 2 hrs long so its not too much of a commitment

I’m so in love with the outsider view of the ravens from family members of the other players, the players who are not perfect court. We know Jean is fucked up, Riko, Kevin, Neil. But the only view we’ve ever seen of the Ravens is from someone who understands.

Lucas kind of breaks my heart in a way, in his relationship with his brother. He’s not a good person, but it’s his older brother joined a cult and came back as a different person.

Little siblings idolise their older siblings so much. Maybe Lucas joined the Trojan’s because his brother was on a Class I Exy team and he was determined to impress him. I wonder if his brother was excited about joining the Ravens. I wonder if he lost contact with his family gradually, or was it immediate as he walked through the doors to the nest for the first time?

Lucas saw his brother go off to college and never come back, and when he DOES come back, he’s a shell of a person. Like, I know we throw around the word cult because it’s like a cult but… it IS a cult. All those Ravens that attempted and/or died after losing their “life purpose” didn’t see another option. It’s Exy or die. It’s Ravens or die. They’re all brainwashed so badly into feeling like they need Edgar Allan in order to survive, into feeling as if anything outside of Exy is worthless. So many of them are going to be incapable of adjusting back to “normal” life.

Do you think Jeans family felt the same way? When they found themselves so deeply involved in crime, with the Moriyama’s, they saw no other options? It’s give our son to the Moriyama’s or die. It’s traffic our daughter or die. I guess we don’t know much at all about what happened to his sister, but she probably felt the same way Lucas did: my big brother has gone off to university, he’s talented and playing for a Class I Exy team, but he does not speak to our family anymore. His family does not exist to him anymore. Exy is his life and there is no option, no way he can live a normal life again if Exy is not in it.

If she were alive, I don’t think she would recognise Jean if they found each other again. He’s merely a foggy memory of who he used to be, the Jean from before having died when he stepped off that plane in the US for the first time. I think she’d react in a kind of, who are you and what have you done with my brother? Kind of way.

Raincode × Cult of the Lamb au...

Some notes under the cut:

It isn't a 1:1 au, more of a mix of the two games. Makoto, Yomi, Guillaume+Dominic, Seth, and Swank are the bishops, with each having a right-hand disciple (their importance depends on the bishop; Yomi's disciple is Martina, other disciples don't really matter) (kiiiinda thinking that Seth's disciple is mr Charlie Radiohead by my bestie @wackpedion . . . Wiki do you want me to turn Charlie into a cute little guy)

Yomi is like Kallamar, he's an absolute coward and has Martina fight in his place for his boss battle- when you defeat her, he comes out with a ton of weapons and is unpredictable (but doesn't do a lot of damage). Maybe he uses Martina's death to grow more powerful, showing that he doesn't really care that she's gone.

Guillaume and Dominic are a duo pair of bishops, tag-teaming. Dominic gets to talk, not very often after losing the crown they share (I think I'll give him Heket's throat injury).

I haven't figured out much about Seth and Swank in particular, but I'm definitely going to workshop this.

Meanwhile! Makoto takes Narinder's place, being the Bishop of death- but Yomi knew Makoto would grow far more powerful than the rest of them, and locked him away. Makoto, noticeably, is a lamb- just as Yuma is. Theyre not the same person, but they're like... mirrors. Only reason they're not the same person is because I couldn't figure out how to get that to work here. Anyway, the bishops decide to kill all of the lambs for the same reason as Canon Cult of The Lamb, and Yuma is the last living lamb. Makoto chooses him to kill the bishops and bring him back to power, and gives him the Crown.

Now, you might be wondering, wheres Shinigami in this au? Here she is. The crown in cotl has a personality of its own and can sometimes communicate with the Lamb, but here, there's a full-on person in there. She can speak with Yuma and takes a liking to him, happy to be able to be out and about again and not restricted to Godhood with Makoto.

Yakou is Ratau, being a previous attempt of freedom of Makoto's, but you don't sacrifice him to the fox- he dies in the Yomi battle. See, Yomi figures out the best way to get out of dying to Yuma isn't to send illness and famine to Yuma's cult- it's to kill someone Yuma really cares about, it's to give Yuma a choice. Kneel, or allow for Yakou to be killed. Kneel, and Martina kills both Yuma and Yakou- with Yomi, of course, hitting Yakou when he's already down. If you refuse, Martina kills Yakou, but he fights back before dying and gets a good chunk of damage on Martina. While it sorta takes away Yakou's selfish actions from Raincode, I honestly can't figure out how to incorporate it into this au- I do intend on him being a bit selfish, though.

I'm still workshopping it, but the NDA detectives are Yuma's disciples.

Over a third of the way through The Whispering Skull heres my current thoughts

- If I were Lockwood and Lucy I would be a little bit mad about George missing the whole "area theyre searching was an execution ground for criminals" thing but also I feel like it's the first clear sign we get that something is off with George. Like hes burnt out. Hes tired. Hes just a teenager. They all are and theyre working adult jobs and literally dont have the capacity or past experience to communicate with one another. Very realistic for teenagers.

- I love Kipps so much I love how full of himself he is I love how pathetic he comes across even when he gets the upper hand I cannot wait to see him and his team get cut down to size.

- That being said I would have thrown down then and there had I been struck with a Mag Flare like that. better ways to go about ghosts, its dangerous as shit, badly damaged L&C's clothes and perfectly shows that the Fitts agency arent really trained in a people-first way. The way they put pressure on their teams to secure a source above all and encourage hostility towards other agents.... Super telling about management and an early warning sign to me. Esp with what we know happens to Ned Shaw (which i'll have a lot to say about later when it happens) and Kat, Bobby and Kipps v trauma.

- I liked Joplin a lot when I read the books as a kid + my reread 2 years back but now... idk. Too reckless, esp with how he treats ghosts when in the company of teenagers and children. Hate how comfortable all the adults in this world are about putting children at risk. They really treat them as a resource or rather than anything else.

- The skull is such a fucking shit stirrer which again makes so much damn sense when you learn hes a teenager whose been stuck with no one to talk to in a jar for like a hundred+ years. Of course you're trying to push apart Lockwood and Lucy. You are a fucked up ex-cultist teenage boy who finally found someone to talk to and are perpetually stuck in your teenage brain and hormones. You are So Jealous.

- Lucy, George and Lockwoods argument about the Georges recklessness and then The Skull seeding distrust again drives home my point about communication but also Christ these kids need more friends. Their entire childhood and teen years are stripped from them. They have no family to talk to or guide them. No non-work friends their age to vent to. Immense trauma and no one to help them through it.

- Jonathan Stroud give me a follow up series following the team in their mid twenties coping with having their lives dedicated to a job they literally cannot do anymore and the repercussions of no education and no safety nets for agents once they reach adulthood. What do they do? Where do they work? Where do they go? How do they afford to live? What happens to agents who only built relationships with coworkers they cant even face because of trauma? Agents disconnected with their families? Nightwatch kids whose education was ruined because their days were spent recovering from their shifts? I need to know.

- Okay back to the book the ghost cult stuff hits so much harder in a post-covid world. I was there getting harassed by anti vaxxers when they invaded parliament for a month and it ended in violence. of course in times of fear people become vulnerable to misinformation. You Are Not Immune To Cults. Or Propaganda. Again, spin-off following the people who try to fight those who profit off of peoples fear and build wealth and followings off of it. Theres so much interesting stuff in this world I want to explore.

- Kipps and Lockwoods teams having to work together bcos of Barnes is so good. I love Kipps team so much I love seeing them

- Kat Godwin is autistic and I know this. Because I am Autistic. Also she comes off as someone who has shut down to everything around her because, again. trauma of her work. at 16 theres no way she hasnt been through something similar to Lucy or Lockwood. I'm sad we see less of her after book three. same with Bobby.

- Now I want to write a hyper empathetic autistic lucy/low empathy autistic kat fic where they both realize they have a lot in common with their Talents and work and bond it doesnt even have to be romantic i just want to see more of Kat

- A LSO i need lucy to have more female friends for the love of god i understand this is your pick me phase of your teens but it makes me so sad to see your internalized misogyny even though it ABSOLUTELY makes sense for her character and is so common for teen girls like her but the way she talks about sensitives and every other female operative she meets. girl. who are you trying to impress rn. you dont need to.

PROPAGANDA: iris is doomed from the beginning, born a clone with no life experience besides violence and death in a pointless war. all the people in their team cannot help them either. in battle theyre often targeted and harrassed first of all their teammates because theyre the team's only spy, and they also spend a good chunk of time imprisoned and tortured by the other teams medic. theyre really vindictive and envious. also, god (me) likes to torture them for my own amusement its alot of fun. PROPAGANDA: let’s see, lost her family at 7 years old (none of them died there was just a house fire where she was put inside an iron stove to “protect” her by her father (her father doesn’t like her can you tell) and they left her there (the rest of her family thought she’d left already)), (un)fortunately picked up by a guy who took her to a very ethical lab where she was healed! And then forced through many painful experiments. Also she was the executioner for a Lot of people later in the lab time and she’s not even 16 yet. So she escapes at age 16 and spends a year with her girlfriend just existing and processing (poorly) what she had to live through and trying to acclimate to life outside of The Lab. Then her girlfriend (who is a cyborg fun fact) got a virus and so she had to be decommissioned which was not a good time for Tamara.

Other physical details: One of the experiments was a test in how high someone’s empathy can get and. Tamara’s the highest Kyne (the one guy who loves experimenting on her) got. So she’s having a Time. She has lost sensation in her extremities, her bones are weak as Fuck due to being part bird (because of very little bone marrow and airy bones), and she just always looks soggy regardless. Also she’s trans

So she just can Not catch a break and she unfortunately gets exploited by her need for parental love and general guidance in her life and joins a cult :( Like can you see the fact that she just cannot stop being kicked while she is down. (I love her to bits and she is my favorite oc I promise)

We ported over most of Scarvio's Academy faculty over and made them professors at the college--fits em pretty well! Hassel is one of the faculty heads of the visual arts department and one of Jaden's main professors while he's still clinging to his Art major (he ends up switching to Undecided later on)...I think they have a good relationship, Hassel kind of helps Jaden come to grips with "you don't need to make art your career if that isn't going to make you happy," which is something that had been stressing him out A Lot.

BIANCA IS HERE she's chazz's coworker at the grocery store he works at. I know Cheren is here too but I don't remember what we assigned him. He has a pet snake.

It's cheesy. full of stuff you know is meant for kids and that corporate made them do. but I really liked it. I know the whole bit is that the family is weird. I don't really like that they used the word weird instead of autistic but i can kinda understand why they had to do it. i found myself relating the characters constantly. The way they run away when things get overwhelming, communicate through their interests, stim when they have big feelings (they all have their own, and most of them have a couple they do) and the way the situation their in affects them. It is not perfect representation but it did a good enough job for me.

So i havent put a Ton of thought into it, its just in the background from also being a marvel enjoyer (AND mcu hater!!!!) for many years. But we all know spidey lance. Its good!! The quips, the flirting, the sharpshooter to shooting webs. It just works.

And keith? Is so so fitting of daredevil. The anger issues. The orphan with a tragic backstory. (The blade potentially being the boxer group that his dad was in before he died??? If youre taking the au more literally and anyways that doesnt really matter to my point) but basically it works so well

DD!keith being an asshole about his territory and lone wolfing crimefighting. Spidey!lance hearing about the masked man in the news. Going "im gonna say hi!" The meeting? Does not go super well

Lance is being an asshole. Keith is being an asshole. Keith doesnt know who spiderman is bc he never reads the news about that stuff. Lance is super offended. You get the point.

Then?? They begrudgingly team up. Then they get along? They work really well? But this guy is So Fucking Annoying and theyre not even friends...... omg theyre friends??? Wait no its not a crush!! Etc.

And thats all i have on those two!

(For the others i have no clue who they would be. Thinking about it for 2 seconds gives me a little something, but not a lot. Black widow allura. Winter soldier shiro. Neither of those fit super well but thats okay. This is brainstorming on the go)

ANYWAYS. I think that is all. I cant think of who the others would be. The only thing i would say is that lance would also be a good human torch. (Literally glowing, super hot, famous, family man, jokes for days!! etc) but keith definitely works better as a daredevil than a spiderman and i cant see a daredevil and a human torch interacting in an interesting klance dynamic way

OHOHOHOH... i have a lot to say about him. theyre a deeply complicated person with a handful of mysteries to him that can never be definitively answered (i mean, i could probably tell you, but as far as hilbertverse canon goes it's up to interpretation...). and he has good reason for this! prepare for a lot of words because this guys a doozy

for starters: n, despite his innate kindness and will to do good, is alarmingly similar to his father. and not for nothing... n in his entirety was fabricated from the very beginning. seeking a blank slate and spurred by his own ego, ghetsis created a clone of himself that he could then mold into not only a reliable pawn, but also the spitting image of the first king of unova- a historical figure who had become more akin to a deity for the cult that had evolved over time into what is now team plasma. the actions he took to do so included but were not limited to: abandoning n as an infant only to return to him when he was ~8 to create both a distrust towards humanity as well as a dependency on ghetsis, only exposing n to pokemon who had been so heavily abused by humans that n couldnt understand them, and finally, telling n that he was the literal reincarnation of king harmonia.

(ghetsis, in spite of being raised in this cult himself, didnt care much for the semi-religious importance of his ancestor. but the legend was useful in garnering n a following when plasma expanded into the public)

but back on topic. because of his father's influence, n truly believed himself to be a perfect, infallible being that would shed light on a world overtaken by evil, and hes also terribly charismatic, and speaks with conviction. hes calculated, though he doesnt see living beings as tools for his use the way ghetsis does... and hes very dramatic, a romantic, and holds a strong belief in the concept of destiny.

after the climax of bw though, his understanding of the world shatters around him, along with his sense of identity once ghetsis reveals that ns life itself is a farce. what parts of n are real and which were instilled in him? which are him and which are his father? who knows... n certainly doesnt. he struggles deeply with determining reality, and a terrible self image, following this event and leading to present day. in fact, they felt so unqualified for any kind of responsibility or respect that he tried to shrug off his title of hero of truth to the first person they believed would be deserving of it. since this was nate though, that kinda failed.

n carries a lot of guilt, and consistently tries to "make up for" the things he did/believes he caused. one of these undertakings was a search for the dark stone after learning that hilbert was apparently killed while trying to find him. n continued this quest for roughly five straight years, stopping back in unova every few months to recover from such an arduous task and to share or gather updates to the situation.

during this time, n's idolization of hilbert as the only real thing in his life grew worse, until n regarded him in a nearly demigod-like status. to him, hilbert was the true hero, a self-made person who was able to win one of the legendary dragons' favor through his own work alone. in their mind, hilbert was organic where n was artificial, the epitome of idealism, so over time n's idea of hilbert morphed from a human to a concept. of course, n's delusions would once again be shattered, this time by a discovery in alola...

and thats the overview! but for some additional trivia:

n has never once cared about gender in their entire life and will go with any pronouns others use for him without batting an eye (but defaults to he/they when referring to himself)

his ability to "speak" with pokemon is actually a sort of telepathy inherited from king harmonia's initial encounter with taijirum. he doesnt hear words per se, but instead sees and feels the imagery, emotion and intent in the mind of the pokemon he's communicating with.

all his talk of seeing the future in bw wasnt literal. he was just very confident in his analyses of the situation unfolding before him. and to his credit he was often right

most of the general public doesnt know his face, much less the details or validity of what was happening in 2010, thanks to interpol's intervention. interpol does like to keep an eye on him though. just in case.

after returning to unova they spent a loooot of days and nights in the ruins of their castle, wallowing in the remains of the illusory world he had once lived in and sitting in the throne room that served as a reminder to the one piece of reality from that time he could cling onto. but, when weather made it dangerous or impossible, he moved to couch-surfing in the houses of those such as alder and rood. when n left again after bw2 though, hed return every few months and alternate between the aforementioned two and sometimes hilbert's friends.... even though cheren did not like him very much and only allowed it because bianca felt bad for him(/it's what hilbert wouldve wanted...)

hes not actually obsessed with ferris wheels. hes just as enthralled with any other combination of technology and architecture (ex. anville town, gear station, etc), but after bw ferris wheels hold sentimental value so they do have a special place in his heart.

they start wearing more colorful clothing over time as a token of his newfound freedom and slow-but-sure development into a member of human society. his favorite color is orange

their birthday is january 1st :)

there are several thru lines involved bc that's how my college experience worked lol everyone had their own side quests and it all intermingled which was SO fun . daniel tears both labrums (based on a real and true thing that one of my siblings’ teammates did) and that makes a maxiel overarching thing go screwy (max has his #slutera when daniel disappears for a year to have hip surgery. bc what else is college for?? also like. in my experience college was Not a 'i found love freshman year and now we're gonna get married' (tho i DO know ppl like that) it was a 'date around fuck around have some really ill-advised friends-w-benefits and/or situationships' kinda thing. so im trying to express Both of those experiences. bc i feel like the date around thing doesn't get written a whole lot. and what is college xc without being on a team w someone you had a dramatic breakup with three years ago.)

"circles" to "leech boy": greed if's arc 4 happens and everyone is Miserable now <3 "our word" is subaru learning to Gaslight and Gatekeep from echidna. "hole-dwelling" by kikuo marks um. that one scene in the greed if ln where subaru kills dream echidna and then has a mental breakdown over that. yes. "evil angel" is subaru capturing meili. you can probably read the "angel" in the song being either echidna, subaru, or elsa.

"are you satisfied?" and "literary nonsense": arc 4 is over yay!!! surely everything will be fine......

"bitter choco decoration" (by syudou) to "no body, no crime": nvm nothing is fine. this is the arc where clind tries to destroy subaru but subaru. Retaliates. so to speak. "sunset lover" is just referencing subaru's save scumming... "this kingdom is mine" is subaru figuring out the culprit killing him is clind.

"your obedient servant" and "someone gets hurt (reprise)": ottosuba divorce. otto leaves subaru.

"everything stays" to the end of the playlist: subaru establishes the official greed if emilia camp by manipulating felt into leaving + reinhard into joining the faction yay!!! "anger" and "drywall" is in reference to subaru punching a wall remembering otto. and its also referencing greed if subaru having "good" days and "bad" days.

this playlist is a loop if you compare the last two songs with the first two songs.

i don’t go here what is the dynamic between hermione and bellatrix

bellatrix is a death eater (voldemorts army) & voldemorts right hand and is very elitist in pureblood status (aka being a “pure” wizard, meaning having two wizard parents), whereas hermione is 30 years her junior and while they are both the brightest witches of their respective ages, hermione is muggleborn (aka born from very mortal and human parents, not wizard parents, but is still able to be a witch which bellatrix looks down on vehemently). 🧍‍♀️ hermione is part of the golden trio (harry, ron & herself) that are basically the leading spirit against the war against voldemort, so theyre v much opposite teams. anyways theres a scene in deathly hallows where bellatrix tortures hermione and cuts a scar into her arm of the slur for hermione’s muggleborn status (“mudblood”) and its made by a cursed dagger to constantly remind her of bellatrix’s presence & hermiones inferior status. bellatrix also kills several of hermiones friends & is generally a heartless monster but she’s played by HBC who is a milf in every universe and she’s just too hot to be unlikable and anyways there’s no defending this ship. anyways they dont interact much in canon but there’s a cult following for them as the forbidden fruit pairing bc of how dark their relationship would be in the canonverse, but several genres of fic sprouted from the concept that try to redeem bellatrix etc etc. all i can say is. scary immoral milf corrupting doe eyed good girl is always the best dynamic & i dont want to fix bellatrix i want her to fix me

The Tragic Saga of the Goncharov Tie-In Game (1995)

so since everyone has discovered goncharov i get to talk about a personal fascination of mine, which is the wild n wacky tale of the goncharov video game tie in. If youre thinking "what the hell are you talking about, there wasn't a video game tie in" theres a reason for that, bear with me

so the game came out sometime around 1995 (different sources place it at various points between 1994 and 1995), and it was one of the first properties to be licenced by sony for a console. It was originally planned to be a SNES-CD release until that console was cancelled, at which point it was ported to the playstation. if youre wondering why goncharov got a tie in like twenty years after the film released, that's kind of why it's so unheard of. sony was testing the waters with its new hardware to see if there was an older audience for gaming, and a few investors were willing to put some money behind the idea. it was actually pretty well-funded all things considered, with a budget of around $1.1m, and the gameplay was similar to that of goldeneye, which released a couple of years later. it was also fairly sophisticated, featuring branching decision trees and several different endings (I think 4? there isn't a lot of gameplay footage available, but there were at least 4)

unfortunately, development was plagued with problems from the get go. Despite its healthy budget, the studio couldn't convince any of the original cast to return to do voice work. Of course they couldn't, the film was two decades old -- you think harvey keitel was gonna bail on pulp fiction to appear in some experimental video game? of course not. so the dev team went for the next best thing: soundalikes.

the problem is, the soundalike VAs they hired weren't used to doing longform work. don't get me wrong, they did their darndest, but their experience was very much rooted in things like radio commercials and short voiceovers. they hadn't really had to act before. oh, and all but one of them hadn't seen the movie. the anecdote goes that they showed up on day one expecting a couple of days work tops, and much to their shock were handed several dozen pages of script (remember the decision trees? branching dialogue baby) and told they were employed for the next six months. Good for them, I think?

The voice acting really suffered from this. a lot of it feels very stilted, it ruins the immersion. yknow how in elder scrolls oblivion all the voice lines were recorded in alphabetical order? It sounds similar to that (altho personally i think the goncharov voice acting is a bit better lol). the directors and actors really struggled to pull everything together.

the result was that, while the game itself definitely wasn't bad, it was outright innovative in places, critics really couldn't get past the baffling performances, which they near-unanimously agreed made the game a slog. someone suggested the game should be played on mute with goncharov the film playing on a second tv, though went on to say that you wouldn't even finish the game then, because you'd just end up watching the far superior goncharov film instead. The game flopped, causing its global release to be cancelled, and was only ever distributed in the UK, Australia, and Japan.

the game had a brief stint as a cult classic, garnering a small online fandom in the early days on the internet. there is allegedly an italian fan translation out there somewhere, although a copy has never surfaced and it is considered lost media. a couple of people have come forward claiming to have worked on it -- they also claim to have met in the neopets forums of all places. i believe them -- and there are a couple of youtube videos showcasing what appears to be an italian fandub, but without the game files it's not possible to know whether theyre real or edited in post.

so now you know the story of goncharov the movie the game, my favourite game i've never played and probably never will. while it may well have been a missed opportunity, i like to think it paved the way for such classics as enter the matrix, and ratatouille the movie the game, and what would the world be like without them?
