So... You Wanna Hyperfixate on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As a neurodivergent person, I know what it's like to come across a piece of media and start to obsess over it. To the point where it consumes all of your thoughts and waking hours. One of my personal favorites is the M.C.U., or the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

However, there is a lot of incomplete information out there on this franchise, so I've got you covered.

What is the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

The Marvel Cinematic Universe, or M.C.U., is a multi-media franchise adapting characters and storylines from Marvel Comics, and is comprised of films, television series, short films, web series and even, appropriately enough, tie-in comics. Beginning in 2008 with the film "Iron Man", it has continued to flourish and produce new entries until the present day. For the purposes of this post, we will be covering only live-action and animated entries in the franchise, totaling 70 entries as of June 2024.

What is the Marvel Cinematic Universe About?

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is divided into two Sagas, both of which are further divided into Phases. Phases are a grouping of projects, while Sagas are a grouping of Phases.

The two Sagas of the MCU are the Infinity Saga, comprising of Phases 1, 2 and 3, and the Multiverse Saga, comprising of Phases 4, 5, and 6.

The Infinity Saga revolves around the six building blocks of reality, known as the Infinity Stones, and how they impact the lives of the groups of superheroes known as The Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as the quest of the power-hungry alien Thanos to obtain the six Infinity Stones. The Infinity Saga is comprised entirely of movies, specifically the first 23 movies in the franchise, with the 23rd, Spider-Man: Far From Home, serving as an epilogue to the entire Saga.

The Multiverse Saga, currently ongoing and roughly at its midpoint, revolves around the Multiverse, a collection of infinite alternative realities where events unfolded just slightly differently, resulting in vastly different outcomes. The villain of this saga is slated to be the time-traveling, reality-hopping Kang the Conqueror, as well as his Variants, or alternate reality counterparts. The Multiverse Saga is comprised of the 24th film (Black Widow) onwards, as well as the 13th television series (WandaVision) onwards. (See below for full film and series listings.)

There is also an unofficial Saga formally known as The Defenders Saga, comprised of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Punisher, culminating in The Defenders. The series Echo has retroactively been added to The Defenders Saga.

What is included in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

As mentioned above, we will be tackling everything except the tie-in comics, which results in 70 entries across the following formats; films, television series, short films, web series, animated series and telefilms.

[1] While Helstrom was originally meant to tie in with a Ghost Rider tv series, itself a spin-off of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Ghost Rider was scrapped and later statements from the show runner and some actors put its connectivity into question. However, the show itself slots in perfectly into the tapestry of the MCU and can be treated as equally as any other part of the franchise.

[2] The Daily Bugle is divided into three "seasons"; one marketing Spider-Man: Far From Home in 2019 on YouTube, one marketing Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021 and 2022 on TikTok, and one marketing the movie Morbius (which is NOT in the MCU), also in 2022 and also on TikTok. This third "season" is non-canonical to the MCU and can be disregarded.

What Are Some Storylines To Look Forward To?

Anti-Superhuman Sentiment: A huge undercurrent throughout the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, both films and television series, is an aversion to superhumans, which could eventually evolve into the anti-mutant hysteria of the comics when the X-Men arrive to the MCU.

Gods and Mythology: From the Asgardian pantheon with Thor to the Egyptian pantheon with Bast, Osiris and Khonshu, to the Vodou pantheon such as Papa Legba and Baron Samedi and the Greek pantheon with Zeus and Hercules, gods and mythology and alternate dimensions are present in several series of the MCU.

Demons and Witchcraft: I tried to avoid naming direct entries in this section in order to maximize surprises, but these themes are ones that truly ingrain Helstrom into the rest of franchise, tying into Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Carter, Runaways, Cloak & Dagger, WandaVision and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Where Can The Marvel Cinematic Universe Be Watched?

Disney+ has the vast majority of the MCU entries, at 62 of the 70 entries.

Hulu has two of the entries, the television series Cloak & Dagger and Helstrom.

Additionally, if you get a premium subscription to Hulu, you can also watch Spider-Man: No Way Home, which is otherwise unavailable to stream.

The CW App has one of the entries, the television series Runaways, due to being removed from Disney+ in May of 2023 as a result of cost-cutting measures. It can be streamed for free.

YouTube has all three of the web series; Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Slingshot, WHiH Newsfront and The Daily Bugle. Compilations of all individual episodes are searchable. Though 3 of the 10 WHiH Newsfront episodes are on Disney+ as special features for Ant-Man.

The final entry, the short film Peter's To-Do List, is only available physically on Blu-Ray copies of the Spider-Man: Far From Home film.

The Rami Malek movie The Amateur from 20th Century Studios takes the old date of Deadpool 3, that being November 8, 2024. When it becomes clear they won’t act due to conflicting internal priorities, he blackmails the agency into training him and letting him go after them himself.

‘Thunderbolts’, ‘Blade’, ‘Avengers: Kang Dynasty’, ‘Secret Wars’ Among Disney Release Date Changes Due To WGA Strike

It feels like Covid all over again, but it’s not. Disney has just made a slew of release-date changes, many due to the impact of the WGA strike and screenplays not being ready and productions paused.

We already know that Thunderbolts and Blade are waiting the strike out before rolling cameras. Scripts aren’t fully ready in regards to the new Avengers movies. Avengers: Kang Dynasty goes from May 2, 2025, to May 1, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars is also pushed another year from May 1, 2026, to May 7, 2027.

We told you that 2023 largely was safe in regards to staying intact (knock on wood), but the ramifications of the writers strike and productions paused will be felt throughout 2024 and beyond. Commence the great release-date shuffle by the motion picture studios.

Also the other delay here with the MCU titles is that Disney wants to make sure they’re better — better than what they’ve been doing from script stage to VFX in the wake of fan pans and lower post-pandemic box office results for such films as Eternals, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love & Thunder and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

First major change is that the untitled Deadpool movie will fire off next summer, May 3, while Captain America: Brave New World, gets pushed to July 26, 2024. Thunderbolts stays in 2024, moving off July 26 to December 20. Deadpool 3, in a vote of confidence moves up from Nov. 8, 2024.

Blade goes from September 6, 2024, to Feb. 14, 2025 — that Valentine’s Day/near Presidents Day frame which has been a sweet spot for MCU.

Fantastic Four shifts deeper into 2025, from February 14 to May 2.

Avatar 3 officially is delayed a year from December 20, 2024, to December 19, 2025. Which thus pushes other sequels from James Cameron as Avatar 4 shifts from December 18, 2026, to December 21, 2029, and Avatar 5 goes from December 22, 2028, to December 19, 2031. While these scripts already are locked, the shift of movies due to the WGA strike is pushing the Avatar sequels around. Producer Jon Landau said the following today about the moves:

The Star Wars movies, which still are being baked, are getting kicked down the road like cans: One of them goes from December 19, 2025, to May 22, 2026. A another untitled one gets added on December 18, 2026.

The new live-action Moana movie with Dwayne Johnson has staked out the summer date of June 27, 2025, about a week earlier from its previous July 2 date.

The new Alien movie, which is shooting overseas, takes the Disney RSVP date of August 16, 2024.

Disney also has RSVP’d the following dates for untitled films: September 6, 2024; March 21, 2025 (instead of April 11, 2025); a Marvel movie for July 25, 2025; August 8, 2025 (instead of August 15 that year); and an MCU title on November 7, 2025. A Disney movie that was set for May 22, 2026, has been removed from the schedule.

And I omitted a small collection of stuff I wrote as Advent Calender for @luzineko in 2020 because all of that is in German and as far as I remember the stories might be short but mostly finished, so no WIPs there technically either 😂

Otherwise most of the stories are actually mostly finished aside from editing.

My mum and I are going to a planetarium show tonight - a show called „Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon“.

I almost shrieked when my mum found it yesterday bc I immediately had to think of @deadcatwithaflamethrower‘s OaLC-Series (HP, my absolute favourite fanfiction out there. Rly. If you haven’t, go read it right now. If you already have, go read it again! It’s absolutely brilliant!)

Fitting to that I’m actually re-reading the series right now and when I opened my e-reader and read another page I came to this scene from Part II:

Pink Floyd is part of my childhood after all (bc my parents also are both fans and we Heard- those records a LOT ❤️) and OaLC is by now just deeply ingrained in my heart.

Just thinking about Murderbot questions not (yet) answered in the books 😂 (as far as I know - might have overlooked it 😂)

So if there are SecUnits that are all produced with the same cloned material, they should have the same face, right? Are ALL SecUnits (constructs) built with the same cloned DNA (aside from personalized constructs like the ComfortUnits)? Are there different batches of SecUnits that are produced with other cloned DNA? Could you determine through their faces how old a SecUnit is (when you have the data) because of the used DNA?

Muderbot never commented on other SecUnits faces and we do know that all SecUnits have the same body structure (which is kinda logical if they are mass produced) so we don't really know if other SecUnits have the same face as MB or not. Though we also mostly 'see' SecUnits with their armour on, so we don't know if they actually are different or if Murderbot is just used to looking into its own face when seeing other SecUnits. I'm also not sure/I forgot if we actually have 'seen' Three without armour... Does Three actually look different from Murderbot?

And... HOW OLD is Murderbot actually? Do SecUnits/Constructs age at all? They do have manipulated DNA, we know that, but does that mean they don't age like humans? What about older/newer constructs? How different are they from Murderbot (speaking in terms of abilities/functions/etc.)?

I'd guess older SecUnits are upgraded during their stay between contracts if there are new functions integrated in newer models? Or maybe older models just get sent to lower grade contracts and the newer (more expensive?) models get the high grade contracts?

I mean, there are a few hints to some answers to these questions - for example that Murderbot is at least 4 years old bc. the 'killed dozens of people'-incident is more than 30k hours past which at least in human earth terms would be around 3,5 years - plus the months from ASR to NE.

Murderbot also says in ASR that its battery would keep it alive for "hundreds of thousands of hours" so if we invert that and say 'less than a million hours' thats still a max of about 114 years??

And, as I said, I'm not sure if we have a description of Three's appearance in NE (I'm re-reading it right now and we haven't yet met Three and my memory is shit with descriptions and stuff I've only read once 😂) though it probably would be easier if Three and Murderbot DON'T look too much alike. On the other side it would be hilarious if people always mistake them for the other - especially since Three seems to have a personality that's a lot more emotionally stable than Murderbot! (Though that might be of MB's trauma - who knows?)

So yeah, questions, questions, questions 😂😂😂 (and of course that's got nothing to do with Hello World, the fic that started as a Teen Wolf-Murderbot-AU and that my head decided to evolve into a full blown crossover AND I'M NOT EVEN AT THE FUN PARTS YET! ...)

Imagine Thor, Loki, Poseidon, and Heracles have a daughter, but one day, their daughter announce to them that they have a boyfriend.

Part 1

Thor

He's unsure how to react with the news that his daughter, Rose, have a boyfriend, but Thor wouldn’t accept it at all. On the other hand, you as a mother will be very happy as long that he love her and both of them have healthy relationship.

Thor will act like he doesn’t care at all, but there’s a time where he’ll secretly watch his daughter hanging out with her boyfriend. You know, making sure that she’s OKAY.

Thor will realize how Rose spend more time with her boyfriend than him, and will secretly miss the time where she’s still a kid.

“Thor, are you here?” You’re coming to the bedroom, and see him sitting on a bed looking at something.

“What are you looking-” you are surprise seeing him gaze at the picture of their daughter when she’s still little, although he have his usual stoic face in every picture somehow. “It’s unusual for you to look at the books of her picture that I collect.”

“Hm.”

“Do you miss spending time with her?” You smirk, it’s rare to see him pout like a child, but you’re lucky you able to see it now. You let out a small laugh and state, “You know you can just ask her, right? If she doesn’t have any plan with her boyfriend.”

“I don’t accept this.”

“Why not? He’s a good guy, plus he’s actually a warrior too, just like you.”

“As if he’s strong.”

“You gotta trust him, if she’s happy with him then I trust them.” He’s just grunt as a respond, you guess that he still didn’t accept it at all. There’s a knock on the door and Rose come in, “Mom, can you help me cook?”

“Oh-” you got an idea, you approach your daughter and whisper to her, she’s shock to hear it, but accept it and smile. She hug Thor and ask, “Dad, wanna cook with me too?”

Thor not sure how to answer that, a god of thunder first time in kitchen, even he can’t even cook. But, his daughter use her secret technique: puppy eyes. Pleading him to come with her, Thor sigh and finally accept it if it make her happy. (he actually can’t handle the cuteness that she use it against him)

When they’re together in the kitchen, you and Thor are surprise to see your daughter’s boyfriend also in here too, “Babe, there you are-” he also freeze when it’s his first  her parent. He bow to them as a greet, “It’s nice to meet you, Ms. Y/n and Mr. Thor.”

“It’s nice to see you too, please, there’s no need for the bow.” You smile at your future son-in-law.

Oh Thor will not like this at all.

Throughout cooking, Thor help you with some cooking while keeping an eye on them, especially the boy. Is he truly a warrior? The boy’s body look average, he has a muscle, but not as big as himself. His personality is... okay? This boy know when he should be quiet and when he should speak.

Although, you whisper to him, telling him to not worry since their daughter is already grow up and responsible. Still doesn’t change his mind at all about the boy, he won’t approve him — Thor still annoy that he actually thought he’ll cook with his daughter and wife, means that he just want to be with them, not adding the boy

During dinner, you’ve been talking with Rose and the boy about their relationship, while Thor just keep quiet.

When you ask if they have a kiss or not, Thor almost choke his food, and literally glare at him.

Rose and the boy tell them they hasn’t kiss yet with their flush cheek, oh she ain’t gonna let her father beat up her boyfriend.

As long as the boy hasn’t prove to Thor that he’s strong enough to protect Rose, he won’t be approve by Thor.

It was as if your anchestors wanted to deliver a warning, for Asgard had never faced a storm matching this fateful afternoon.

The thunder swallowed all of your screams and cries, every curse you spoke with each contraction as the baby made it’s way into this world. All this time, your precious husband would never leave your side, letting you squeeze his hand as much as you needed.

“Only a little bit more, my Lady!” the midwife shoutet from between your legs, her tone calm yet cheerful. “I can already see the head!”

“I’m right here. You’re doing wonderful, my petal.” Loki was softly petting your hair, pressing a wet kiss into your forehead. “You are incredibly strong, Y/N. And I love you so much!”

Remaining collected was using up all of his energy at that very moment, you knew that much. Yet not even the God of Lies could hide all the helplessness and excitement stirring in his head at that very moment.

Being with the Prince of Asgard was just like in a dream.

Once you get to know him, that troublesome arrogant lone wolf turned into a smart, caring - and especially charming - prince. And hel, Loki treated you like a Queen.

All this pain you were experiencing right now would ultimately lead to the greatest bliss imagineable - just like it was with Loki.

Oh, how dearly you had fought, suffered, yearned for him, only to be rewarded with heartbreak and frustration. In between his feverishly chase for the throne and his rivalry with Thor, there was just no room for a loving relationship to grow.

The crushing weight of thinking himself unworthy for affection had made him cold and bitter over the millenias, telling himself the comforting lie that he was above all, born for a glorious purpose.

For the God of Mischief, whose kinsmen had always made him feel out of place or under-appreciated, the process of trusting had always been one step forward, three steps back.

But through your compassion, and with a great deal of patience and understanding, you slowly but steadily melted the ice around the prince’s heart.

Because deep inside, you always knew that it was worth it.

And today would be the peak of your romance: Your child would forever remind the Odinson that he belonged somewhere - right here, with you.

“It’s a boy!”

“A heir?!” Loki exclaimed, smothering your face in kisses. “Well done!”

You smiled weakly at his excitement, in between choked sobs. All that your exhausted self was able to process was the fact that your child is born - and you already loved him beyond reason.

“Where is he?!” you whimpered, unable to realize how the air in the room had shifted - for when the midwife touched the infant, she began to scream in agony.

“What’s wrong?!” Loki’s eyes were narrowing at the midwife that almost dropped his newborn, detecting some sort of burn wound on her palm. Quickly, she had covered the boy in a towel, aware that if any harm came over that baby, she was to die at the God of Mischief’s hands.

A flash of lightning was brightening the whole room, which had only been flooded by dim candle light until now.

Another one of the midwife’s screeched in terror, almost stumbling as she frantically erscaped your bedchamber. The adrenaline from birth and worry about your child sharpened your senses, yet concentration was almost impossible.

Still, the words she was yelling as she ran down the hall send a shiver down your spine:

“It’s a monster.”

Your head was spinning as you rushed into an upright position, with two nurses pressing you onto the bed again. “Milady, you need to rest! It’s still too early!”

“What is wrong with my child?!?” you desperately screamed, kicking with your legs to free yourself from their hold. “Give it to me!”

Their expressions were too much to bear. Your head was spinning, seeing pity mixing up with disgust and anger in their eyes.

“Enough!” Loki finally broke his own silence, his mind having been occupied with all the horror scenarios one could think about.

Walking up to the midwife carrying the infant, he demanded seeing it. “Your highness, don’t-” yet the midwife’s beg was for naught.

Yes, everything will be alright. Loki will take care of it, like he always does. After all, he’s your savior, your hero, the love of your life...

Gently and insecure, your husband cradled the newborn in his arms - a sight to behold. And the baby’s strong cries assured you that it was at least alive.

However, as soon as he dared to unwrap the towel, revealing it’s face, Loki’s heartbeat completely stopped for a second. His trembling lip began to shake, mouth widely agape as he took in the child’s form.

For a brief moment, his mind was completely blank. All emotion dropped from his face before taking in a complete different demeanour.

“Wha-” you wouldn’t dare ending that sentence when your husband’s furious eyes met yours.

The air was so thick, you thought not even Thor’s hammer could break it. Clearly ritten on Loki’s usual unreadable face were so many emotions at once:

Aversion, fury, incredible sorrow...all directed towards you? The child?

Impossible.

Loki Odinson loved you more than anything in this world, this was the only thing you had always been sure he wasn’t lying about.

“From all the people I expected to betray me...” His voice was hoarse, as if the ache in his heart was wrapping around his throat. “Why did it have to be you?”

You could feel the horrendous aura, a wave of sadness and despair coming from your husband. Seeing him like this was like torture.

“What- what do you mean, darling-”

“Don’t fucking call me that, you harlot!” That was surely not the first time your lover had raised your voice against you - he could be a bit difficult at times, obviously.

But this time was different somehow. It sounded so...ultimate.

And the Loki you knew would never use such harsh words against you!

“Please, I beg of you...just let me see my baby!” Everything was just too much for you, almost to the point of passing out. 

And the man did as you pleaded, almost shoving the child into your arms. “There, have your bastard! And make sure to never show your filthy faces to me ever again!”

With that, he stormed out of the room, leaving you with those strange nurses looking at you like you’ve just commited an unforgiveable crime.

There was no use in overthinking this. He’ll come back like he always did. You can work this out, whatever it is - even if you are gonna be mad for a very long time, making such a fuss and then disappearing instead of taking care of you, the mother of his child.

Out of a whim, you decided to finally observe the little being you’ve been waiting for all those months.

A loud gasp escaped your mouth as you realized just why everyone was so worked up about that little boy. Yet the sound you made was solely surprised - not a hint of fear or rejection laced your voice.

It was a beautiful baby boy, little fists balled to the air as if he was searching for the warmth of his parents - though his skin was in the shade of a dark blue. When you dared running your hand over the deep lines and ridges on his body, the stinging pain of frostbite immediately stung your fingertips. His eyes snapped open, looking at you with black irises through red scleras.

You knew the meaning of this, even though you didn’t understand how this was possible: This child was a biological Frost Giant. A small one, but nonetheless.

A curse? Was someone trying to play your family dirty? No. If that was the case, the child wouldn’t also have actual powers together with the appearance.

Just how long have those tears been running down your cheeks in thick streams already? You wouldn’t know.

Only one thing came as clear as daylight to you: You loved this baby, more than anything in this world. And no matter the hardships that came along with it - you would protect him, no matter what!

“He’s magnificent...” you sniffled, pecking some quick kisses onto his small body before the cold could hurt you. “I love you so, so much...!”

Not minding the judging looks of the nurses, let alone wondering about the consequences, resolve was starting to give you new strenght.

The boy got a grasp on your finger, and instead of your skin freezing off as expected, your magic allowed him to the boy to finally disguise itself as one of you. How was this even possible? Well, this is probably the first time something like this ever happened, so no one could prepare you for what to expect with this child.

They all say that birth was an impactful event - but nothing could’ve prepared you for everything that you had to endure on this day.

Yet nothing could’ve stopped you from believing that this child was the greatest blessing that ever came over you.

Now you only had to convince your husband of that very fact...

“Y/N Y/L/N!” the guard wouldn’t even bother adressing you with your full title as his harsh voice woke you up. When had you drifted away into slumber anyway? You were probably way more worn out than you wanted to admit...

Your eyes immediately snapped open, heart skipping a beat until you saw that your son was still sleeping soundly right next to you. Stroking his cheek as he smiled up to you, it almost made you forget about that burdensome situation.

“Hey!” Protectingly, you were holding onto your child for dear life as the guard approached both of you. “I have an important message to deliver!”

You scowled, almost like an animal mother protecting their offsprings with baring teeth, even though you knew in that state you would be completely and utterly helpless. “Why now? What could be more important than the well-being of my child?”

The answer let your blood run cold:

“I am here to announce that Lady Y/N Y/L/N has to face a trial in front of the Allfather. The following crimes she is being accused of: Infidelity, collaboration with the enemy and trying to sneak one of them into our glorious kingdom.”

ALSO ALSO ALSO, you have got to watch Why Women Kill if it's available in Italy, because it's SO GOOD (we finished season 2 last night which is why I'm mentioning it). So I originally started watching it cause Matthew Daddario is in season 2 (a very good incentive obviously), and I watched the first season with my mum and it was SO FREAKING GOOD (one third of the show enrages me but I won't give spoilers cause idk if you've watched it, if you HAVE watched it then oh boy I have things to say), and then we discovered that season 2, THE REASON I STARTED WATCHING IT IN THE FIRST PLACE, wasn't available in England yet, we had to wait like a year 💀 but anyway we finally got to watch season 2 (with Matthew Daddario 🫶) and it was just as good as season 2. SO in conclusion to this rant that you didn't ask for and did not want, you should watch Why Women Kill if you haven't already, it's awesome, I love it, there's loads of glamorous women who I just want to step on me, enjoy 😌

The Truth Will Set You Free- Part 1

Pairing: Bucky x Female Reader, Thor x Reader (other Avenger characters)

AU: Modern

Summary: You dated for two years, and thought he was the one for you. One day you came home and found him with someone else. After running away from you, you return home and found yourself in the arms of Thor. When Thor decides to introduce you to his friends at a dinner, you realize that there’s something familiar about the house you were visiting.

You sit in the passenger seat of the vehicle driving towards an unknown destination. You turn to look at your boyfriend, Thor, and just take in how much happier you have been over the last six months since you started dating. You knew you were a mess when you first met him, 1 year ago. You had given up on men and relationships, and decided to never to trust anyone. Your last boyfriend cheated on you after two years together. You thought he was the love of your life and when you caught him with someone else you figured maybe love wasn’t real. However, Thor manage to show you that love is still possible.

Didn’t realize how long you were staring until Thor dragged you from your thoughts, “You okay? You look kinda nervous,” he asked as he squeezed your thigh.

You take a deep breath and squeeze his hand, “I just want them to like me,” you respond with a smile.

Thor smiled as he pulled up in front of the house and parked. “These people have become my family over the last 2 years. I know they are going to love you,” he says before leaning over and giving you a kiss.

Thor then gets out of the car and runs around to open the door for you, which makes you smile. You look up at the house and can’t help but feel like you have been here before.

“Who owns this house? It looks so familiar to me,” you ask Thor as he leads you to the front door.

“My friend Steve and his fiancé Peggy,” Thor says.

You abruptly stop and stare at the house. No wonder you recognize it. There can’t be that much of a coincidence. Thor stops and looks at the panic in your face.

“Babe, you ok?” He asks concerned.

You pull your hand away from his and start walking backwards toward the car, shaking your head as you try to calm your racing heart. No way are you about to walk into a room with those people. With him.

“Baby? Look at me,” Thor says cupping your cheeks. “Tell me what’s wrong.”

You take a deep breath as the memories start flashing in front of your face. You remember all the good, the laughing, cuddling, kissing, love making. Then you remember all the bad. The walking into your shared apartment, seeing the two of them cuddling in your bed sound asleep. The crying, the yelling, the leaving, the breakdown.

“Thor... I-I don’t think I can do this,” you whisper as you tremble.

Thor pulls you into his arms tightly to help ground you. You feel your heart rate return to normal slowly as he rocks you and kisses the top of your head. When he hears you sigh he pulls away slightly, “What’s wrong?” He asks.

You swallow the lump “I- it’s just a lot of new people,” you say, deciding to not tell him your pathetic story. At least not yet. “I’m just not ready,” you say as you try to pull yourself away and back to the car.

“I know your scared, but I promise it will be fine. I told them all about you, and I really want you to meet my friends. I’m always the only solo guy, and now I want to show my girl off,” he says pleading.

You felt terrible that Thor always hung out with his friends alone, when they are all in couples. But now that you know who they are, how can walk into that house and face them? You look up into Thor’s beautiful blue eyes and sigh in defeat.

You look down at your trembling hands and try to find courage. You wonder if you should tell Thor now why you are worried, but you don’t want things to be awkward with his friends. You look back up and nod and are blessed with a breathtaking cheesy smile in return. It makes your heart flutter.

Thor grabs your hand again and heads up to the house. Your heart is pounding in your chest as he knocks on the door. You can’t help but think back to that day.

Flashback

You walk into your apartment after a long day of work, completely exhausted. All you wanted was a glass of wine, some greasy takeout food, and the love of your life to hold you in his arms. As you look around the apartment you noticed that everything was in place but the man of the hour, Bucky, was missing. Usually he would be sitting in the living room awaiting your return like a puppy, but today he was absent.

You walk down the hall toward your bedroom, wondering if maybe he went to take a nap. You slowly open the door and peek in and what you see completely destroys your heart. You always wondered if there was something between the two of them. They always seemed too close for your comfort, but you always hoped that he loved you enough that he would never hurt you. I guess you were wrong.

You look at the man you thought you would spend the rest of your life with, cuddled up with none other than Natasha Romanoff, in your bed both with no shirts on. You push the door open so forcefully, it slams against the wall, causing both of them to jump awake.

You couldn’t help the tears falling down your face as you screamed and cursed at both of them. Bucky flies out of the bed to calm you, but you just smack him and tell him to not touch you. You must have blacked out because the next thing you remember is having all your clothes packed and walking out the front door toward your car, Bucky pleading with you to stop.

End flashback

The door opens an you see a familiar tall blond man, who welcomes Thor with a smile. You try and hide behind Thor to gather a few more seconds of courage. Thor turns behind him and wraps his arm around you, pulling you forward.

“Steve this my girlfriend, Y/N. Y/N, this is my good friend Steve,” Thor says with a smile.

You and Steve stare at each other. Steve in disbelief, you in terror. You slightly shake your head, trying to tell Steve that Thor doesn’t know. Steve apparently gets the message because he reaches out to shake your hand, “Nice to finally meet you,” he says.

You nod in response, not trusting your voice at the moment. Before you knew it, Thor was pulling you into the house. As you all turn the corner, Steve announces to the room, “Look who is here!”

Everyone turns to greet Thor. When he pulls you to his side you hear the collective gasps before a thunderous silence. All eyes are on you. You look from face to face of the people you once considered friends, before you lock eyes with the man that tore your heart apart.

You both stare at each other for what feels like forever. You don’t even hear when Thor introduces you to the crew. You pull your eyes away and see Natasha sitting on the couch in shock. You want nothing more then to smack the beautiful right off her face.

Steve interrupts the silence, “Y/N we are all so glad to meet you, right guys?” He says to the group.

They look at him confused before looking at you again, but you are looking at your feet in embarrassment. Sam jumps in, “Of course! Welcome!”

Everyone relaxes after that, but all you feel is tension from all of them, but especially Bucky, who hasn’t stopped staring at you from the moment Thor pulled you in. You were here. You were back. But you were no longer his.

Thor: Love and Thunder 

I enjoyed Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok, but what he did that really impressed me what Jojo Rabbit. Now after a few years of writing, directing, acting and producing several films and TV shows, he is returning to the MCU. New Thor flick opens July 8.

Nope 

A Jordan Peele movie is now becoming a big event! Since his debut Get Out, he has been firing on all cylinders. His mysterious new one opens July 22!

The Video Archives Podcast 

Former Video Archives clerks Quentin Tarantino and Roger Avary are sort of returning to where they both worked in the 80s. After the store closed in the 90s, QT acquired the entire Video Archives inventory. In this new podcast, the Oscar-winning screenwriters review a movie from that inventory on VHS and discuss it each episode. I am so there! Podcast premieres July 19!

Better Call Saul (AMC)

In April, season 6 of my #1 TV Show of 2020 premiered. Since this is the final season, they split the season in two and the second half returns on July 11. Let me just say right now, I am going to be so sad when this series ends on Aug. 15 and it then becomes Breaking Bad (in story chronology that is)!

A brand new music festival is happening in Davis Square (Somerville, MA) at both Crystal Ballroom and Rockwell, with loads of bands including Speedy Ortiz. After the bands on Fri. and Sat. there will be midnight screenings of Wayne’s World and Wayne’s World 2 at Somerville Theatre as part of the fest! Nice, a Fest is July 28-30!

currently reading: i'm about to start rereading sandman vol 1 & 2 bc the netflix adaptation came out the other day !! i'm also technically in the middle of palm sunday by kurt vonnegut - it's a collection of essays that i like to dip into periodically

current obsession: i don't really have anything consuming atm bc for the last 2 and a half months i was involved in a major comedy/drama production at uni and it's pretty much taken up all of my spare time going to rehearsals/writing/learning lines/show week etc

but !! recently i've been getting into this podcast on the south african border wars and it is SO fascinating - i'm really interested in modern history and 20th century african history (especially south africa). it constantly sends me on wikipedia deep dives into things i never got to study at school, like the congo conflict and the angolan war of independence. i could spend hours reading about these things or listening to someone talk about it, so i'm glad i've finally found something that scratches my history nerd itch :-)

Day 1 - Thunder

~850 words (kind of angsty, I guess)

They bit each other’s lips raw. With the strength of cast-aside fears, the flood of a broken dam, the senseless hurry to stock away as much as possible for the upcoming drought. He’d have ran his teeth along her jawline even if she had been pushing him away; but she dragged him in instead, with her grasp in his hair, with her gaping mouth over his ear, with her weight pulling them backwards, until she hit a table and they almost stumbled. If they had, papers would have crumpled and books might have fallen off, while some would have remained to be covered by her back, pressing uncomfortably and unheeded through the thin leather of her daytime clothes. The lantern would have been cast aside risking a fire, and her legs would have wound around his bent form, craving for any layers between them to disappear. He might have indulged in the curve of her neck, while she’d have bitten his earlobe. In that case, she’d have figured out from the melody of his exhale how close she was to his weakest spot. And he’d have rewarded her, as she smirked through her teeth and didn’t let go, with his long fingers deliciously dipping into her bare hips, although she wouldn’t have remembered when he had finagled his way under her clothes.

The possibility flew them by as they breathed from each other’s mouths in a motionless hold of hair and clothes, digesting the occurrence in their respective, private stun. What this meant, mostly in retrospect, welled up in their intertwining looks.

"One day," he breathed as he beheld the dark behind her pupils. "What an impressive length to go."

"You never said a word," she whispered.

"I never knew I could."

"You never even tried-"

There it was, the moment when it hit for real, and she was now pushing at his chest with a mix of start and resentment.

And he obeyed, without an answer on his tongue, though plenty in the teal of his eyes. Like the sunlit oceans, she had always thought – now tinted with an emerald depth. Unlike at any other times of his mischiefs, he backed up at the first prompt.

She didn't expect him to be this lenient. Or rather, she didn't expect to panic over the loss of the accidentally gained moment. She had no time to prepare for any of this, really, their meeting in the library wing was merely for some papers she intended to get for Thor.

Thor, who was now her husband, their bond sealed a mere day ago. Her choice meant the end of a lengthy wait (a pretended dilemma), a closure to the implausible daydreams that the subject of her basest desires would someday start caring for her charms.

Unbeknownst to her, he already did, only their attraction had been shyly hid behind spars, verbal and physical. Loki had always been a mystery to the world – one of the traits that thrilled her. He was always on a tad calmer behaviour around her than in public, which she had grown to indulge in without her initial vain tries to understand. But he was also guarded in a subtle way, she had always known that, and yet she wouldn't have dared believe the possibility–

Thus, she had settled with growing out of the wait – wrongly so, as it occurred on this rueful day, while the distance grew between them once again.

"I can't honestly say I'm sorry for losing my composure, in spite of the misfortunate delay," he uttered huskily; "but I will respect your choice further on, because your honour is your clearest merit, and a part of you for me to marvel at."

She nodded faintly through the dismay in her gullet, watching his hand reach for the collected pile of parchments, shuffle through them with an impeccable spine, nothing but a soundless exhale and his telltale eyes (even cast down like this) remembering the stray moment.

She took the selected paper wordlessly, both of their looks on the exchanged item, bent on sticking to the present, pretending not to flush, keeping dry as grown-ups did. Forgetting politely, mutually.

She got halfway across the chamber when the flooding regret spun her around, and she all but crashed into the prince already headed for her. Their mouths collided, her arms with the paper around his neck: she wouldn't let him slip away this time. But neither would he, with his hold around her waist, their forms fitting fluently as sin. Because that's what they were: agents of theft. Secret, unwanted, forbidden. Possibly dead if ever discovered, or injured heavily, through the rashness of the discoverer they both loved and had just turned their backs on.

"It'll be a painful tryst," he muttered into her hair, though there wasn't a question in it anymore.

"I know," her lips worded faintly while wandering over his smooth jawline.

It hurt many, the two of them included. But Fate had turned: had there been any other path, she'd only have walked it if he'd have come along.

MCOC Wishlist Blog Character Spotlight KNULL

BACKGROUND

Knull is an ancient malevolent deity whose existence predates the universe itself, and was originally content to drift through the endless abyss that existed before time.

He used his weapon, the Necrosword, to combat the Celestials who disturbed his darkness. With this sword Knull severed the head of a Celestial. That head is now Knowhere, a popularly-known Marvel location and a battle zone in the Marvel Contest of Champions Battlerealm.

Wanting an army, Knull then constructed the aliens we all know, love, and sometimes hate, the Klyntar race of gooey symbiotic aliens.¹ Later, after a debacle with the Mighty Thor, the symbiotes rebelled against their “God” and trapped him on a desolate planet, later known as Klyntar. There the God of Symbiotes waits and plans his escape, hoping to one day lay waste and bring Darkness to the universe.

“The End is near. God is coming….”  

Editor’s note: the next several sections are designed to familiarize the reader with Knull’s worthiness to be featured in a video game, compared with the myriad other Marvel characters from whom Kabam could choose.

POPULARITY

Technically, Knull has been around since 2013, and appeared in Thor: God of Thunder Vol.1 #6 by Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic, as he was a shadowed figure from whom Gorr the God Butcher steals All-Black the Necrosword.

He was then revealed by name by his creators in Venom Vol. 4 #3 by Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman in 2018. 

Knull has had huge fan buzz around him since his inception and his name is only getting bigger. Despite fewer than a dozen appearances initially, Knull headlined the King in Black line-wide event that began in December 2020, from the minds of Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman. 

Editor’s note: Arguably named after Knull, the King in Black initial release was considered critically to be a high-stakes situation, due to the perceived hype. Its comics made regular appearances in bestseller lists after the event launched, suggesting the Knull name and story, in conjunction with the strength of his creators’ reputations, was strong enough to sell books. Overall the King in Black arc has also gotten good critical reviews. 

KNULL AS MATERIAL FOR OUR MARVEL GAME

Editor’s note: these character spotlights usually explore several factors to determine whether it is reasonable to expect Kabam to seriously consider the character as a candidate for addition to Marvel Contest of Champions. Among these factors are inclusion in other similarly-marketed games, mainstreaming in comics and other media, mentions in MCOC lore, Kabam conversation, or community rumors, and pure hype among summoners.

OTHER MARVEL GAMES

Knull has been featured in other games already: first in the Spider-Man Unlimited mobile app,² then in Marvel Future Fight. In Marvel Puzzle Quest, Knull was originally only part of the backstory description of the playable Prophet Carnage character, but was eventually released in his own right in May 2021.

KNULL AND THE BATTLEREALM

Arguably no direct mention of Knull has happened in either [Marvel Contest of Champions or Marvel Realm of Champions], but it can be said he was alluded to in the motion comic that accompanied the release of Cosmic Ghost Rider and Red Goblin in October 2020.

Then, when story mode Act 7 was released in December 2020, this dialogue was revealed, which has been strongly speculated to be a reference to Knull.

CLAIM TO FAME: KNULL IN OTHER MEDIA

Knull has not enjoyed a reference in any Marvel Cinematic Universe content to date. Hel has only been mentioned in the Disney XD cartoon Spider-Man: Maximum Venom with a retelling loosely based on his comic book origins. 

UNIQUE WAYS KNULL COULD FIT INTO THE MCOC META

Knull could be a massive boost (editor’s note: synergy hub) to many Symbiote champions or champions in general. I see him as a Cosmic [based on what I was told by co-creator Ryan Stegman], with massive damage. Being the creator of symbiotes, Knull could outfit any [non-#Symbiote] champ with a “Klyntar symbiote” of their own to enhance their kit or base numbers. He could also operate with #Symbiote champs similarly to the way Apocalypse enhances Mutant champs. He could also work as a counter to Symbiotes or anyone who would have ever been bonded to a Klyntar before in canon, which would include most of the Spider-Fam!

Knull’s kit could alternately introduce a #Codex tag to add to certain non-#Spiderverse Hero champs who have famously bonded to symbiotes (paging Red Hulk or even Deadpool).³

A PEEK BEHIND THE CURTAIN?

No mention of Knull ever came out of the Kabam team or anyone related to MCOC. Then again, Kabam never likes to tease big-name additions like Knull would be. Mid-September 2021, one data miner claimed that Knull is forthcoming.

WHAT DO SUMMONERS THINK?

Summoners seem to dig Knull. He was the winner of the first Tournament  of Battlerealm Future, March Addness 2020, which was co-hosted by MCOC Wishlist creator Other MCOC Gabe and Unofficial MCOC Podcast veteran UMCOC Deacon on Twitter. The tournament pitted hundreds of characters against one another for votes from Summoners expressing who they would prefer to enter Marvel Contest of Champions. He cleaned house throughout most of the tournament, earning his addition to the MCOC Wishlist, where he has risen into the top 50 most wanted champions.

Due to recent ramblings by the author, and the introduction of Red Goblin to Marvel Contest of Champions, people have warmed up to the idea that Knull might actually be coming to the contest. (Even community-renowned comics expert CTMCOC agrees!)

Once below rank 250 on the MCOC Wishlist, Knull now stands as the #31 most-wanted champ, with over 550 Summoner upvotes as of this writing. 

KNULL: CHAMPION BUILD IDEAS

PROBABLE CLASS

As mentioned above, Knull is a canonically cosmic entity or deity who purports to predate the universe itself. This forms a strong case for the MCOC Cosmic class of champions.

POSSIBLE ABILITIES

Like many Cosmic champs’ builds, I can see his relying on many Active Buffs with massive damage and defensive potential due to Symbiotic Armor. Perhaps as Knull collects Codices, he gets stronger and this mechanic could be used in game as persistent charges. The more Codices he gathers, the more potent his Buffs could become. He could utilize Fury, Aptitude, Armor, Cruelty, Precision, and other critical-damage-enhancing Buffs. Bleed and Armor Break Debuffs are likely as Knull breaks down his enemies with bloodthirsty ferocity.

POSSIBLE SYNERGIES

Knull's status as the God of the Klyntar could enhance all #Symbiote champions just as Apocalypse does for Mutants.

Venom could get a unique synergy called “Daddy Issues,” allowing Venom a 2% attack boost for every Buff converted on his sp2 but as passive Fury stacks. I imagine Carnage with something like a “Prophet of Knull” Synergy allowing 95% resistance to incinerate effects, allowing him to heal from Incinerates, since Carnage has no weakness to fire when he is operating as Knull’s prophet in the comics.

Knull could also be built to spend Persistent Charges to enhance #Symbiote champions in order to increase their stats and enhance their buffs.

It would also be clever to have a Synergy with Void called “Knull and Void” allowing Void access to a non-stacking Armor Break Debuff, such as on his Heavy Attack. More debuffs for Void would be devastating. 

Knull could also enjoy a basic “Enemies” synergy with Thor and Silver Surfer. A great champ to release in conjunction with Knull would be Gorr the God-Butcher, a notable Thor villain, played by Christian Bale in Thor: Love and Thunder, and the other best-known wielder of All-Black the Necrosword.

Editor’s note: this concludes Marco’s commentary and notes on Knull as a potential champion. Anyone tracking the conversation about future champs knows that the name of Knull comes up frequently among Summoners, and his rise in every voting event in the community tends to support the notion he is greatly demanded by Summoners and would make an excellent addition to the game.

This article was originally drafted almost entirely in late 2020, and has been dug up and completed in September 2021 after MCOC Trucos released a purportedly datamined leak suggesting Knull “is Coming” to Marvel Contest of Champions in October 2021. -OG

The Klyntar alien race is most popularly represented by Venom, and his fellow Klyntar aliens Carnage, Scream, and the other names associated with their stories of superhuman symbiosis and “Venomization.”  2. Spider-Man Unlimited was well ahead of the curve announcing Knull for a video game in 2018. It got there by virtue of attempting to release almost every noteworthy Spider- and symbiote character as playable video game characters.
